🍪 Feeling hungry? Well, despite its name, the chocolate chip sea star (Protoreaster nodosus) probably wouldn’t taste very good. To start, those “chips” aren't chocolate at all… they’re tubercles, or knobs, and they’re unique to each sea star. No two individuals have the same arrangement of tubercles!

Like many other sea stars, this marine invertebrate eats by pushing its stomach out of its mouth, covering its meal, and then digesting it externally. This critter inhabits the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean, where it might be spotted around coral reefs or seagrass beds. It can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm) across.

I put them in a park in early fall because I’m SO ready for summer to be over. Arthur remaining blind even after separation has a very special place in my heart

Chip with extreme vertigo from growing up on a ship and having his sea legs be the normal instead of walking on steady ground. He needs the constant rocking of the waves in order to match the persistent dizziness

He’s always tripping and falling over himself but on the sea the waves always seem to rock the boat perfectly so he can catch himself, however on land there’s none of that and it becomes increasingly apparent the more time they spend off the boat that it’s not just him slowly adjusting to being on land again but that there’s something wrong

Just Chip with vertigo but being out of the sea helps him

NRC'S PAINT CHIP PROJECT! — green with envy

"wanting to be special to you. wanting to be the only one you touch. wanting you."

You were Malleus’s first true friend.

He treasures you in every form, in every mood you come to him in. There’s a glow about you when you’re happy, a cloud around you when you’re upset, and a flame around you when you’re angry. There’s a myriad of other emotions he sees in you, disgust and love and amusement and awe and calmness and anxiety, and each one is more fascinating than the last.

He wants to draw every single one out of you and see how you deal with them. He wants to pick you apart and know every single thing about you because it seems wrong not to know.

But others know.

Others know you just as well, if not better than he does, and it irritates him.

There’s a small, immature part of him that feels the urge to summon lightning and strike down his competition because that’s what they are, right?

He believes humans call his emotion jealousy. He wasn’t aware he could feel something this gut-wrenching, but he supposes you’re such a curious little thing that you’d spawn feelings like this within him without even knowing.

That’s true, you don’t know what you do to him, do you?

Naivety doesn’t suit you.

He wants to be your first friend. He wants to be as special to you as you were to him. He doesn’t want to lose you. No one has ever touched his heart the way you can, and Malleus knows nobody else will ever get as deep into his soul as you did.

You dug your way through the towering stone walls with your own two hands, and the second you broke through, the whole wall he'd built over centuries and centuries crumbled completely. He wishes you weren’t so kind. He wishes your presence wasn’t so comforting and he wishes there was a feasible reason to hate you because he can’t stand being this dependent on you.

You would tell him that you’re not the only kind person in the world.

As Malleus sees you talking and laughing with friends that are him, he hopes you’d be wrong.

He doesn’t want to feel this jealous feeling ever again.

Yuji’s not afraid of much, but he is terrified of store mannequins. Unfortunately, he has to go shopping through a mall for a new pair of shoes. He clings to your hand and buries into your legs as you walk past the display windows, those faceless and headless mannequins adorning fashionable outfits and scaring the poor boy.

Choso watches with a smile and leads the three of you to the shoe store, that also sells clothing, which also has a mannequin on either side of where you pay. Yuji refuses to walk in and almost starts crying, so you kneel to his level and he hugs you.

“Yuji, you have to go in there.” You sigh and hug him. He shakes his head frantically.

“I don’t wanna…”

“We can’t bring the shoes to you to try on out here, it’ll be stealing.”

“I don’t wanna go in there!”

“Yuji, don’t get that tone with me. I know you’re scared and you don’t want to go in there, but we have to get you new shoes. We’ve put it off long enough. I’ll carry you and cover your eyes, but you have to go into the store.” You say firmly. Choso kind of finds the tone attractive.

Yuji sniffles and nods. “Okay, you can cover my eyes…”

So you do just that. You lift Yuji into your arms and he buries his face into your neck, hiding from the mannequins that he’s convinced are staring at him.

You show him shoes and Choso puts them on Yuji’s feet to make sure they’re the right size. Choso pays for the shoes and you carry Yuji out of the store, treating him to food from the food court and some candy.

“You did great, Yuji. I’m proud of you for getting through the store and getting cool new shoes.” Choso smiles to his little brother.

“Thanks!” Yuji’s back to all smiles now that he’s away from those horrible things that show off clothing.

You three visit a few more stores, avoiding mannequins. Choso buys you a few items, insisting to pay for you since he dragged you along for the trip. You felt a little bad, since a few items were quite pricey, but Choso doesn’t mind spoiling you.

im a rather young artist but ive been drawing for around 3 years so i feel very discouraged with my progress. around what time did you become comfortable with your art?

this took me a while to reply, hope you are still around anon. I really mean it when i say "i have always been drawing". i could dig up even older drawings i did (courtesy of momerrino's inability to trow anything away) but sorting through that could take forever...

so here is a brief selection. some can be found when you go back to the beginnings of my tumblr here. or on my old DeviantArt account or twitter.

i was around 14 in 2009 i am 30 now. idk improving takes time and patience. and perhaps even to learn to appreciate your own pen ship.
