SHIFTERS
This earth that has loaned her inhabitants the gift of life itself comes to gift another boon. There are some on this plane who had been blessed with the ability of wearing another guise. The earth, ever-wise in her dealings, have made it so that the person given unto the gift of shifting could only have a guise suitable to their local ecology. Gulch City, having been desert, is home to a sizeable population of shifters whose guises run the gamut of rattlesnakes, coyotes, foxes, wolves, falcons, and other such species endemic to the lands of Nuwuvi people.
VAMPIRES
Before the Fall, the vampires of Gulch City had been subject to the constraints of their physiology, their activities mostly restricted in the nighttime hours. Yet, with the City submerged into an eternal dark, the only lights remaining those powered by steam and early electricity, the vampires found themselves able to flourish more freely in this new environment. Yet with this newfound freedom comes a bane: the cover of eternal night has seemingly made some of their number more brazen, with more and more corpses turning up drained of their blood. Soon, it will reach a breaking point. Soon, questions will have to be asked. For now, however, there is no greater feeling than the unravelling of oneself, at long last.
UNDEAD
Deep beneath the earth, with the city under the careful purview of the Haunted Ones, there are more things in heaven and earth than can be conceived of in one's philosophies. It wasn't too obvious at first. What flukes happened could have been chalked up to miraculous recoveries, a wrong diagnosis by an over-earnest doctor, or perhaps just a miracle one ought not to question too deeply. Yet it kept happening and happening and happening, until people were finally forced to accept this incredible truth: the dead don't remain dead and come back to life — if you can call this twisted, liminal sort of existence life.
WIXENFOLK
There have always been strange magics at work ever since the beginning of man, always carefully hidden by folks who knew to keep their heads down and mind their own business. Some say they have been in this town since the very beginning, for surely the exponential rate of growth and development that the city's experienced couldn't be anything less than magical. Yet, whatever their reasons for hiding, they all now stand as one, having stepped into the light and being the first of the supernaturals to announce to this strange city that there was more to it than meets the eye.

I don’t think we talk about impulse’s season 8 lore enough like he’s the canon heir to the Charlie (from the chocolate factory. You know the one) business but from a character perspective it’s not really a choice he makes actively. Being a candy factory owner is just sort of something that happens to him. Edible crystals appear in his inventory, he eats them, gets hooked on them, and then his factory owner clothing just like appears on him. He seems kind of confused by this but not enough to actually do anything about it. Absolutely mystifying type of man

Laertes stumbles through a crowded street, blank and limp in a way that isn’t quite natural, like a doll being dragged by a string. They’re hungry, and worse than that, he’s bored. He’s been trying to be less…everything that he usually is, lately. Now that she’s hanging around the archives, and has almost-friends to worry about…
But it’s weighing on her. He can feel himself wasting away, and with it, his masks. They shouldn’t be near the institute like this. They stopped by to say hi to Ren, but they’re avoiding Jon altogether. She prays she doesn’t run into the archives crew out in the wild.
They aren’t safe right now. And in trying to stay seem kid-friendly for their friends, they’re only getting more dangerous.
Lost in an empty haze, they bodily collide with someone, going completely limp and falling onto the ground like they weigh nothing. She lays there for a moment, and the viewer can see him flicker, for a moment seeming more fabric than flesh.
It’s only for a moment, though, and then Laertes laboriously draws herself back up to a kneeling position to face the person they ran into.

If I see one more take about Orym being "secretive" in taking the sword, I swear I might start screaming. The dude walked up to Chet in front of everyone, asked for access to the Bag of Holding, took the sword out (in front of everyone) and left with it. Then he came back with the sword strapped to his back... IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. There was ample time for someone to speak up if they wanted to and Orym, quite frankly, didn't have reason to expect it would be an issue. Laudna may have used the lack of discussion as part of her cycle of justifications for her actions, but that doesn't mean it was 1) the main issue she was actually dealing with or 2) an unsolvable problem that required a rash response even if that had been Laudna's primary issue.

Hikari was helping Double D with the chick egg project in the science lab. She decorated hers with a bow and a diaper.
@hoshi-neko-hikari
"Greetings, fellow Cluckers!" Edd shouted using a megaphone. "The Happy Cluckers Club is now called to order." He said examining an egg under an incubator thoroughly.
Jonny sweats as Edd looks it over. "Egg-ceptional progress, Jonny." Edd congratulated.
"Right on! We're gonna have us a family, buddy!" Jonny shouted to Plank, happily. "And what do we have here?" Edd asked about Hikari's egg. "Your egg looks adorable as you, Hikari. A perfect match." Edd smiled.

It's crazy how people talk about loumand like they hate each other and have never once looked at each other with anything resembling lust, like two nuns at a silent covent. Buddy louis has had bed death with his husband, and that husband wasn't armand lemme tell you that!

the idea of rping with an ai is actually so baffling to me
you mean you’d rather rp with a bot that you can’t randomly break character with and giggle and scream about characters/situations/literally anything with??? that just feels so boring and lifeless
you’re not communicating with someone who shares your interests, you’re communicating with something that was programmed to talk like the character. theres no connection there so like what’s the point???
i’m bad at explaining things but hopefully you get the point. basically it’s dumb as hell

DEMONS
They came, they said, just from next door. They say they come for the bright lights of the fairegrounds, the thrill of winning big at the casinos, the chance of seducing some fair person — but deep in your heart, you know it's not true. Their big smiles only ever serve to show the sharpness of their fangs, a fair warning to any and all who would deal with these amber-eyed denizens of that most infernal realm. Still, if you want something so much you're willing to sell most anything and everything, then it's well known throughout the city that the one you go to when all else fails is a demon.
DOPPELGÄNGERS
They say another you walks under this earth, taking your place in the affections of your kith and kin. They talk of memories you do not share, activities you do not recall doing. When have you been so forgetful? they ask. Curiosity turns to worry turns to suspicion. Are you sure you're you? Rumours swirl in conversations held during the break of twilight, when polite conversation becomes most decidedly impolite: your own image walks, unbound, free to do whatever they wish with the mirror of your body — yet, they say, always inexplicably leaving behind drippings of black tar.
DROWNED FOLK
This deep beneath the earth, what once had been desert broke past aquifers and groundwater. Here, under the careful attentions of the Haunted Ones, the waters of the earth become the waters of the world — and whatever lost souls that once found themselves submerged in that profound abyss inevitably come washing up on the Oasis. They are strangers to the direct flow of time: their yesterdays, far different from the yesterday of Gulch City. What purpose might the Haunted Ones have in mind for the bringing back of these drowned folk? Like all other questions asked in the City, the answer yet remains to be seen.
HUMANS
Humans stand as ordinary mortals, without the strengths, traits, and abilities possessed by other supernatural entities. Devoid of special powers, they once navigated their daily lives, often unaware of the mystical entities that reside in their midst, concealing their true nature within the shadows. Avatars & Nullifiers Humans are susceptible to the sinister sway of strange entities that hide in the shadows. These entities possess extraordinary powers and incomprehensible motives. Their aim is to corrupt the souls of mortals, transforming them into horrifying distortions of their former selves. Clockwork Automata In order to stop the biological clock from running down their limited lives, humans opted to become clocks themselves: flesh and bone replaced with whirring gears and metal encasing, the miracles of science trumping the fragile biology of yesteryears. Perhaps there had been a time, early on in its flourishing, where people who opted for this procedure had been scorned and vilified by society at large, considered as affronts against the delicate ordering of society. Yet what order remains, when the City finds itself lodged under earth and mud? Now, clockwork automata wine and dine with the very best of them — and sometimes, as is the case with the Rubber Baroness, have found themselves to be one of them.

Thematic Analysis of Hades II: Why You Can Never Go Home
(At some point I might make a video on this, but for now sharing my thoughts via textpost. Spoilers ahead!)
So the text of the story of Hades and Hades 2 are Zagreus breaking out of the House, and Melinoë breaking in.
But the wild thing (and the reason Hades 2 is much more interesting to me) is that both games actually have almost inverted themes from that text. Zagreus is intent on uniting a household; Melinoë is discovering the home she's fought to return to is rotten to the core.
Zagreus, despite his entire textual goal being to leave his home and family, is narratively & thematically working to bring the family and household together. His mother comes back and is reunited not just with him but her husband, mother, and entire extended family. Achilles and Patrocles, Orpheus and Eurydice, Asterion and Theseus: Hades is a story of people metaphorically coming home and making peace with where they are (Sisyphus, Thanatos, Orpheus). Everyone basically gets a happy ending, credits roll, problems all resolved or en route to be solved. Everyone is home.
(Important to note: we never see a human in the first game. We see shades, and gods, and monsters, and the closest you get to a mortal living thing is the satyrs. This is a story concerned with the realm of the gods.)
In contrast, Melinoë has no home - besides being estranged from her childhood home, she literally lives in a tent. In case the theme was too subtle, presumably.
Now, she has been fighting her entire life to become powerful enough to return home and reclaim her family - that seems Zagreus-adjacent on its face. However, there isn't a home to return to- Hades is in shackles, the rest of her family trapped in time. At this point in Early Access, on both a metatextual & diegetic level she quite literally can neither make it to Mt Olympus or into Zagreus' room - she cannot go home, she cannot meet her family.
Consider the others: Odysseus' presence seems to tie into the idea of a long journey home, but this is an Odysseus who lived and died and now has other (inhuman) priorities. He loves them, but has no interest in reuniting with Penelope and Telemachus at this point. Nemesis dislikes her siblings, and is more concerned with the equal application of "justice" than whether it has any reforming effect. Narcissus and Echo eventually talk and part more amicably, but that's the best that can be said about their relationship.
Hecate refuses to be called Melinoë's mother: she will not distract from the "true" family that Melinoë has no memory of ever meeting.
Instead of Ares and Dionysus (enjoyers of chaos and least affected by the toxicity of the family in Hades 1) we have Hestia and Hephaestaus- a goddess who helped murder her father and a god constantly belittled by his own family. Their tense and frequently bitter interactions with the other Olympians are evocative of the central theme being explored: what if there isn't a home to go back to? What if your family is unforgivable? (What if you want to forgive them anyways? What if you need to?)
This theme is why Arachne is in the game, and Athena is not: likeable, first-helper-of-Zagreus Athena turned Arachne into a spider out of petty anger. How do you reconcile that?
Moros (lovely, kind Moros, who gushes at Odysseus like a fanboy) and his sisters the Fates did horrible things to mortals out of boredom. The same mortals whose bodies you can see stacked up like cordwood in Ephyra, who you repeatedly claim you are fighting to protect from Chronos. Moros can neither confirm nor deny that the current events could have been set in motion by the Fates. How do you reconcile that?
Polyphemus raises sheep. He genuinely loves and cares for them, is protective of them. He also eats them, and is confused when Melinoë implies a contradiction.
How can you love someone and be willing to kill them? For survival? For fleeting satisfaction? For vengeance?
Is Chronos' willingness to eat his children so morally heinous that it makes him worse than every cruelty the gods have wrought? Worse for who?
