You were waiting at the Zoo entrance for Mirio, looking at the time on your phone seeing how late he is, 10 minutes. He isn’t usually this late for dates so you start to get worried and send him a quick text

Jozi: Hey Mimi(funny nickname I thought of) I jus wnted to know ur eta to the zoo

Mimi<33: Hi sweetheart sorry for the hold up I had to get my surprise for you

Jozi: A surprise??

You turned your phone off again and started pondering what the surprise could be. You didn’t ask for anything recently? So you’re left curious what Mirios gift could actually be. About 5 minutes go by and you see Mirios' car pull up and park near the entrance you were standing at. As you look over there you see a flash white get out the backseat, then you see Mirio get out of the driver's side and lift this blob of white up into his arms. He is walking closer and you see that it's actually Eri! You look at Mirio confused for a second before he pulls you in with his free arm and kisses the top of your head “Hi my sweets” he says into your hair “I'm sorry for taking so long, Eri’s babysitter canceled on her so she is our plus one today” he looked down at her and smiled, and then looked back at you “If that’s ok with you?”. You looked at both of them and then started to smile softly at them “Yea, it's ok”. Mirio turns to Eri and motions her to you, “Hey Eri this is my girlfriend Jozi, she's super nice and so much fun to hang out with, and I think you two are going to be the bestest of friends” He said with smile that could save anyone just from looking at it. Eri looks at you and then with her other hand takes yours and starts to hold it “Do you like pandas?”.

He was walking back to his dorm after showering after training

But before he got inside, he heard the song blasting from inside his dorm

He was standing there in utter confusion

Todoroki and Kaminari had walked past him with the same confusion written all over their faces

He looked back at them then grunted and pushed his door open

Inside you were in his hoodie and your looney tunes socks running around his room and singing

You jumped up on his bed and started dancing

“IF YOU LIVE IN A DREAM AND YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS THEN YOU CAN’T LET EM CHANGE YOUR MIND!” You screamed as you continued to dance on his bed

Bakugou stood there frozen.

All he could think is “what the hell are they doing” and “why am I dating this dumbass.."

He groaned and ran his hand down his face and closed the door

You jumped off the bed and poked at him

“Aye! Stupid ass stop that and turn that off! I gotta study” Bakugou said as he pushed you off

You rolled your eyes and turned it off

“Come on your studying with me too! God knows you need to anyways” he says gruffly

You nudge his head but eventually you sit down with him

He knew that you knew that he enjoys watching you making a fool of yourself

And you run over there and start jumping and dancing with the kids

Then cue your boyfriend, your mentor and your upperclassman

They all round the corner and when they saw you dancing and giggling with the kids they stopped

Kirishima was soooo confused at first then he started smiling

They all watched as you got the kids to dance in a line with you

Basically nigga LOVED it

The kids was circling around you and singing

And manz could not stop cheesing for the life of him

And you bet your ass he went up there dancing with all of you

And the kids parents were jus smiling in endearment

And then the little girls ran over to Tamaki who was nervous as hell to even be in the circle

Kirishima was poking and laughing with the little kids

Literally manz was having the best time of his life

And after Fatgum asked the kids parents, he picked all y’all up and started running around and laughing with all of you

Kirishima was sitting on Fatgum’s shoulder and you were on his other shoulder

He leaned over and whispered “We are totally making a dance for this”

You cackled in agreement and continued making fools of yourselves in public

Ok so first of all this was in the dead of night

Like everybody was ASLEEP

AND before anything you got permission from Mr. Aizawa to do this too

So you KNOW you wasn’t gonna pass up this chance

And after a couple more minutes of bugging the man, you got a dress shirt and you got Eri outta him

So here you are on a Friday night at 12:34am at night in the common room

You and Eri was in Mr. Aizawa’s dress shirts and in black socks with Midnight’s sunglasses on

You also got Present Mic and his speakers so you KNOW what’s bout to happen

You and Eri was bout ready to wake the entire school up

And den Mirio come busting through the door saying he wanna join

So now it’s you, Eri and Mirio ready to dance with Present Mic was at the speakers ready and Mr. Aizawa was sitting leisurely on the couch

Chileeee when the music started, the whole building was shaking

Y’all was on top of counters sliding down the halls and all over the place singing

And the more music that played the more lights got turned on one by one

Cuz only the common room lights were on

And eventually all the lights went on

Then you could hear doors opening and a stampede coming down the stairs and hallway

What came stumbling out was all of class 1-A in they’re pajamas, hair clips, bunny slippers and sleeping masks still on

And they all stood there and watched y’all acting like fools at 12 in the morning

But Denki???

Chile he couldn’t stop smiling and blushing

He loved seeing you like this

You were dancing around with Eri and Mirio and somehow y’all managed to drag Mr. Aizawa off the couch too

But here’s where things switch up

Cuz Kaminari ran to room and and came back

Mind you everybody is in the class is very much still awake and now having a dance party

So when Kaminari came back he was wearing a dress shirt, socks and sunglasses too

And y’all started doing literal choreography

And at the end yall did that “hummm” at the end and did a dramatic pose

Safe to say the whole school heard y’all that night

Now we know that Tokoyami had an internship with Hawks

So when Hawks got to know Tokoyami, you were introduced too

And poor Tokoyami could tell this was gon be a recipe for chaos

And lawd have mercy how right he was

Cuz this happened because a little girl was playing the song

She was at the park with her mom and brother

And you and Tokoyami just happened to be walking past there

And you heard the song

So you know Tokoyami heard it

And he knew exactly what was going to happen

You literally started this whole choreography

Just because of the nostalgia you had a while back

And the best part?

Hawks knew it too

And he just so happen to be flying by

And he saw both of y’all so guess what he did?

He flies down

And chileee when he heard the music, Tokoyami was damn near ready to sprint away

But he didn’t want to

Why? Cuz he loved seeing you so happy

And granted dark shadow loved you just as much so he’d prolly bug Tokoyami the rest of the day if he left

So he was more than happy staying

He watched as you and Hawks looked at each other and started dancing

Granted he felt kinda embarrassed about the whole thing but he couldn’t keep from starting at you

You and Hawks did your choreo and didn’t even realize that y’all was being recorded

People were all mesmerized with the way you and Hawks were just dancing like little kids

They found it funny

Granted only y’all could pull that off🙄💅🏽

Basically in retrospect, Tokoyami could literally not get enough

No matter how embarrassing it was to watch

Butttt he eventually got both of y’all outta there and apologized to the girl’s mother for y’all’s behavior💀💀

Oh btw somebody ended up posting the video and you and Hawks went viral

Perchance to Meet Final

Hi everyone!!

It’s finally here!! I decided to give you all an early birthday gift with this last installment. I want to thank everyone who liked, commented, and reblogged this story it truly means so much to me! This story is kinda my baby on this blog and I hope I did it justice. I’m excited for the future yall! And thank you for being on this journey with me!

The dim lights of the bookstore provide appropriate background for the employees closing up. Kona and (Y/n), now co-owners, are closing up for the night after a successful day of handling demanding children, strange grandmothers, and eager 20 somethings looking for a new hangout. It was long and tiring but incredible.

After the two of them finish writing up and closing the books and organizing the store for the next day, Kona heads up with (Y/n) into her apartment.

“Just so you don’t forget,” Kona starts, “you’re taking a few days off this upcoming week right?”

(Y/n) nods as they enter the apartment. Right by the door are a couple of suitcases and boxes and the pair pick them up and head back down to the storefront. “Yes Kona I didn’t forget. I’m just staying with Shota for a little bit.”

“And you need half of your life with you because?”

“Oh hush,” she chides, “I’m just moving some of my stuff into his place! Even though he lives at the school…”

Kona chuckles as they load up his car, “right, right. Whatever you say.” She sticks her tongue out at him as she shuts the car trunk. (Y/n) then slides into the passenger seat and she and Kona are on their way to the dorms at U.A.

After a bit of driving, they’re driving past the gate after security let them through. The young woman feels her anxiety skyrocket as things start to connect. This is her first time somewhat moving in with someone, her first time really meeting his students, and the first time she’ll meet his coworkers and learn more about his job. It’s exhilarating but frightening.

Kona looks over to her and places a hand on hers. “Hey, you’re gonna be safe here, otherwise I wouldn’t have allowed it.”

She snickers at him and starts to calm down. Upon entering the grounds, she sees heights alliance and is in awe of the tall buildings and the beauty surrounding them. She never realized just how big the campus was and now seeing it up close is how Shouta described it doesn’t do it justice.

And speaking of Shouta, there he stands right where he said he would be. Her lips upturn naturally at him and she can’t help but smile at her man. He’s hers, and she’s his. His hands are in his pockets as per usual as he sees you pull up, signature snarky grin on his face. When she opens the door, he takes her hand and pulls her into a hug.

“Hey.”

“Hey.”

He kisses her then, softly and wraps his arms around her waist not entirely caring who could potentially catch them. Most of his students should be in their dorms and Aizawa had a feeling he’s going to be introducing her to a lot of his coworkers tonight.

“Let me take your luggage for you,” he whispers in her ear and walks to the back of the car. Once he opens it, he stares at her in a deadpan. “Did you really pack all this stuff?”

“I mean, yes? Who knows how long I’ll stay here or if an accident happens. And besides I’ll need extra clothes just in case.”

He scoffs as he picks up your luggage and sees Kona carrying your extra box. “Is this your way of saying you want to move in together?”

That causes (Y/n) to visibly straighten. She had considered it, but maybe now is the right time to talk about it? “I mean, maybe? I’ve been thinking heavily about it. Is that okay?”

He holds her hand and brings it up to his lips and kisses the back of it. “Of course kitty cat,” he whispers huskily, “I’d love to move in with you at some point.”

Unfortunately, this act of intimacy wasn’t missed by wandering eyes. Upon walking up to the faculty dorm, two pairs of eyes were peering by the door in eager anticipation. Blue and green eyes look between themselves and matching sinister grins greet the couple.

“’Zawa she’s here!”

“This is her? She’s gorgeous! How could you keep her away from us for so long?”

“Well I met her first, Nemuri.”

“You don’t have to rub it in, Mic!”

Hearing the two friends banter makes Aizawa roll his eyes and holds onto (Y/n) tighter as they walk past the troublesome twosome. “Hey,” Nemuri steps in front of the couple, “I’m Midnight! But my friends call me Nemuri and I think you and I are going to be great friends!”

The sapphire eyed woman sticks out her hand toward (Y/n) and the latter takes it and smiles at her. Midnight squeals and takes her away from Aizawa, skillfully sneaking in a “I’ll take her to see some of the other teachers,” and the two of them were gone. Aizawa rolls his eyes again, something he figures he’ll be doing a lot of over the next few days, and asks Present Mic to pick up the slack.

The blond man walks with the always tired man and sparks conversation. “You must really love her, huh?”

Shouta hums and nods as they approach his room. The two men put her belongings down and then head back out to the common room. His eyes soften as he sees Nemuri introducing (Y/n) to some of the teachers that weren’t dealing with students freaking out about the festival tomorrow. The large and beautiful smile on her face makes everything they’ve waited for and been through worth it.

“Yeah Hizashi, I really do.”

It had been years since the bookstore owner had set foot on a school campus, let alone for a school festival. Seeing the school at night was one thing, but seeing it in the day time is something else. The courtyard was dressed and set with tents, balloons, stalls and more. Her eyes lit up with childlike joy, but she wasn’t going there just yet. She had to meet her festival touring partner. (Y/n) walks down toward the front of the school and is greeted by a black car and outstep two people. One with a blinding smile, and the other dressed adorably.

“You’re Miss (Y/n) right? I’m Mirio! And I’m sure you already know Eri-chan here.”

She can’t help but smile at the energy the third year exuded. Shouta had told her that he had lost his quirk in the battle, but he is incredibly strong to be here right now smiling. The attachment he has to Eri is one you don’t miss. “It’s nice to meet you Mirio! Eri has told me so much about you.”

He smiles back at her and the three of them walk toward the school. Eri holds onto both of their hands as they walk through the festival. Eri is the first to speak up. “When will I see Midoriya? He’s performing soon right?”

Midoriya?

“Yes he is! And that’s where we’re headed. Do you want to be up front with me or sit in the back near Aizawa-senpai?”

Eri ponders Mirio’s question looking between both adults and then answers, “I wanna see Midoriya up close!”

Her response makes (Y/n) giggle and nod. The three of them speed walk toward the gym where class 1-A is having their music show. Once the trio reaches the gym, Aizawa spots (Y/n) and motions her over, letting Eri and Mirio to find a spot close to the front. The stoic man stands at the back, taking in the large crowd in front of him as he waits for his partner to join him. He does his best to avoid the stares and whispers of students about his class and about the strange woman that was allowed to come onto school grounds.

The entire performance is mesmerizing! Her eyes were blown wide the whole time; she knew they were incredible but to even put on a festival performance like this as first years? Her high school could never compete! To her right, Aizawa watched her in silent amusement at her childlike wonder at his students. He thinks to himself that this was the right way for her to see his students as just students and not victims of tragedy. He wanted the whole school to see it. And he knew his class would do just that.

Once that was over, the couple walked out into the gym lobby and waited for the large crowd to disperse. As they waited, (Y/n)’s mind began to drift off. This is his world and he’s openly sharing it with her. Although schedules had prevented the two of them from truly immersing into each others worlds, it’s nice for it to finally happen. The content woman hadn’t noticed the small smile that graced her features, but Aizawa had caught it. With how close they were, he reaches out his pinky to connect with hers for that little bit of intimacy they could do in public. The touch alone sends electric shocks through her body, finding out the man next to her does enjoy small acts of intimacy like this.

With the students moved on to the next thing, Aizawa leads them into the gym where his students are cleaning up. He spots Eri and Mirio talking with one of his troublemakers and his heart almost stops. He hears a gasp from beside him, most likely in recognition of what he saw.

“Eri,” she starts as happy tears form in her eye creases, “she’s smiling.”

The moment is short lived when Mineta interrupts the trio and begs them to clean up faster. As they finish cleaning up, Aizawa calls his class to his attention. He congratulates them on a job well done gives them their well earned praise. The class is excited but can’t help but keep sparing glances at the beautiful stranger next to their sensei. The only one who knows but is already nervous at the potential questions.

Aizawa lets his students go and is already heading toward the exit before they can bombard him with annoying questions. (Y/n) does her best to stifle her laughs because she can feel the questions lingering in the air as they leave his students confused. She can already hear the questions from different voices asking about who she is to their sensei and if they’ll see her more often. The noise fades when the couple walks outside to the rest of the festival to visit different vendors and stalls. Her ears pick up on something that surprises her is that there’s a fashion show? This school has everything.

She feels a tug on her pinky and looks up to meet unmoving eyes. Shouta directs them to a shaded and covered area that upon first glance, can’t be seen by passersby. He pulls her into the trees, checks for any onlookers, and places a sudden yet passionate kiss on her lips. She leans into his body, wrapping her arms around his neck to bring him closer to her. Their lips move and mesh like the waves crashing upon the shore, natural and effortless. When they pull apart, he places his forehead on hers and intertwines their fingers. “I’ve been wanting to do that all morning,” he breathes over her lips.

A giggle escapes her lips as she pecks his lips in happiness. She wants to deepen the kiss, but knows that Eri is waiting for them. She pulls at his arm for them to rejoin the festival and he huffs, disappointedly. Noticing this, she pulls him close to her mouth in order for her to whisper, “and we can continue this later where we can be as loud as we want, Sir.” She winks and skips toward Eri and Mirio who seemed to be looking for her.

Aizawa is usually a very stoic and composed man, but hearing her whisper that made him not leave the shaded area for a couple of minutes.

The sunset over the edge of campus lit up the sky in beautiful oranges and purples. The festival went off without a hitch and it seemed that Eri had the time of her life. And so did (Y/n). The young girl was taken to the third year dorms to hang out with them and give Aizawa some much deserved alone time. He had finished chatting with Shinsou, his new mentee, while (Y/n) refreshed herself in the ladies’ room. Upon her return, she has to do a double take because she’s certain she’s seeing double. Two pairs of eyes turn to her as she slowly approaches.

“Oh Shinsou, this is (Y/n). You’ll see her from time to time.”

She waves at the lavender haired student and he lifts his eyebrows to acknowledge her. Looking at how close they are he speaks up, “Girlfriend?”

“Yeah.”

“Hm. Well I’ll see you tomorrow sensei and sensei’s girlfriend.”

(Y/n)’s mouth still hung open at the exchange that she was part of but also wasn’t part of. Shouta waves off Shinsou and starts walking in the opposite direction with her. Regaining her composure, she questions the man walking beside her. “So you’re just going around calling me your girlfriend when you haven’t even asked me?”

Aizawa turns his head toward her with his eyebrows furrowed. “I thought we established that back at the hospital.”

She laughs loudly as they approach the stairs leading to the roof. “All you did was tell that student I’m your girlfriend. You never asked me.”

All he does is hum and lead the woman up the stairs and to the rooftop where he had spent many hours before in his youth. With the moon starting to rise, he knew the fireworks commemorating the end of the festival would start soon and he wanted them to have the best view. Once the door is opened, she’s left stunned at the view. With the fire pits below them leaving little flakes and smoke to float into the sky as it transitions from purple to a deep blue.

“Shouta, this view is incredible.”

The awestruck woman doesn’t notice the change in demeanor of the pro-hero beside her as they walk further out onto the roof. Aizawa wants to capture this moment forever, just seeing her in this light on top of a place he can almost call home with fireworks about to start. He checks the time and then walks behind her and wraps his arms around her waist, resting his head on her shoulder.

“Be my girlfriend. Again.”

“That was more of a demand.”

“I’m only gonna ask once.”

She chuckles at his stubbornness and turns her head to kiss his cheek. “See that wasn’t so hard? All you had to do was ask.” He rolls his eyes and holds her tighter as they sway to the music playing in their heads. Maybe it’s the music from the night they met or the music from his student’s performance. The fireworks begin to light up the sky in front of them, decorating the dark night with an array of bright colors.

The show continues as the couple still sways to their own rhythm. Minutes later the show ends and applause can be heard from down below. The couple completely content with each other and the atmosphere they have created ignore the world around them. Aizawa is the first to break the mood by turning his girlfriend around so they’re face to face.

“The night we met, I almost didn’t go out with my friends.” His confession earns an eyebrow raise and a look of realization from his other half in front him. He takes her hand in his and brings it to his lips, grasping her palm and kissing the top of her hand.

“But I’m glad I got the chance to meet you and fall in love with you.” She hadn’t noticed it until it was too late. He was down one knee, at the place that has been a huge part of his life, eyes full of love and adoration for the future despite the trials and tribulations they may endure. He wants nothing more than for her to be part of his life forever.

“Will you marry me?”

the “undo” button: eri in bnha (aka me trying not to scream about the todorokis before the translations come out so here have eri instead)

so with mirio back in action and the knowledge that eri’s quirk is now capable to be used by our heroes (at least sometimes), i wanted to talk a bit about the type of plot device eri is. because while she does have room for personality and development, her main purpose in the story up to this point has been predominately focused on her quirk.

and there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions — largely because eri’s quirk does seem to operate as an undo button now for our heroes. and i’m not mad about mirio getting his quirk back, and i’m not even mad that eri’s quirk is part of this story now.

“undo” buttons  by themselves aren’t inherently bad, like a lot of other plot devices it largely comes down to how exactly they are handled and executed. a good usage of the device can improve the story by putting the characters in difficult positions, giving false hope and quite frankly raising the stakes. a bad usage does the exact opposite.

so how should you use an “undo” button and how does is it being done in bnha?

when introducing the “undo” button, the redo optioon, the get out of jail free card, into your story, you have to set the terms that the button can be used in. we’ve already started to see this with eri — we know her quirk is based on the power that comes from/is stored in her horn and can rewind people.

so it’s not necessarily an instant redo power and while i am wary of it — i hope it can be executed well. how can it be best executed? there’s a few options.

give both heroes and villains access to the power. admittedly this has already been done kinda of as eri started with overhaul and is the source of the quirk erasing bullets. having said that — if both sides get too much access to the ability than it becomes ineffective. so this alone doesn’t really help. nonetheless by allowing both the heroes and the LOV to have some degree of access to eri’s abilities, it serves to help balance the scales between the groups and keep tensions high.

set hard limits on the power. make it clear as to what exactly the power can do — for example: can eri rewind the dead? as well as setting either that it can only be used so many times (ie there’s a limited number of quirk erasing bullets) or that it can only be used so often: as eri’s horn grows and shrinks as she uses her power — establish that she can only use her power to do one big rewind for a certain duration. however there is a caveat to that working, namely:

put time constraints on the effectiveness. establish that the further back you have to rewind someone — the more dangerous it is. make it so that to some extent the degree of effectiveness isn’t unlimited. this cam lead you to situations in which…

force your characters to choose who gets access to it. if eri can only use her power on let’s say one person from the whole war arc: who gets it? who do they prioritize and who do they leave to the side. who is fundamentally important enough that they get to be rewound while everyone else is left as they are. this is most effective if the last point is implemented because then there’s no waiting line. it’s now or never.

have situations that it doesn’t cover. for example: while eri could in theory rewind any injuries (ie aizawa’s leg, deku’s arms, hawks’ wings), she can’t rewind dabi’s video/reveal. so it’s not a universal undo.

there’s more but the point is, in general the more restrictions set on the ability and the more those restrictions force characters to make difficult decisions the more interesting/beneficial the power is. the less restrictions — the lower stakes are, and the less tensions there is because a reader (and the characters for that matter) know that it won’t stick.

that’s why “undo” buttons are such dangerous plot devices. look at deku’s final fight with overhaul — deku could use OFA at full power without consequence, he was basically invincible. in fact the threat by the end wasn’t even overhaul — it was eri’s control.

and the thing that worries me about eri is there is a lot of restrictions on her abilities now, because her losing control is disastrous and she doesn’t have too much control at the moment. however, bnha likes to train up its heroes. so if the more eri improves, the more restrictions on the ability disappear, that could make the “undo” button fears founded.

personally: i don’t really enjoy giving characters access to “undo” buttons. it’s why i don’t like time travel plots. i’m not a fan of giving characters get out of jail free cards, unless they’ve really really really worked for them and can only be used once. and it’s hard to predict where eri’s role in the story is going. but it’s not always a bad thing, so for the time being. she’s got my benefit of the doubt.

i just hope she can be utilized well. also i’m happy power boy mirio is back so i guess we can only see where it goes from here.

(disclaimer time: these are pretty general comments based on my own opinions and study into narrative. by no means are they universal though! good stories can use this plot device freely and still make it work -- bad stories can put restrictions on it and it doesn’t work at all. that’s part of why it’s such a difficult device to work with and anyone who does always gets my standing ovation - i really hope this story is one of them.)

Before I do this, I just want to say that before I started watching MHA I used to think he was gonna be All Might's grandson and then as I watched it I legit thought he WAS All Might and had just been hit with a de-aging quirk or something nsndjfnf Obviously I realised he wasn't when he was officially introduced, but for the first two and a bit seasons....

…Look, I know nobody really cares about Overhaul’s characterization, but I spent enough time puzzling over wtf is his deal while I was watching the anime that I may as well make a post about it. Especially considering how he’s come up in recent chapters in relation to Twice and Hawks, one thing that strikes me about Overhaul is that he wants to be normal, and to accomplish that, he tries to change the world instead of himself.

On the surface, Overhaul’s goal was to establish himself and the Hassaikai as the rulers of the underworld using the anti-quirk serum, thereby repaying the “debt” he owed the Hassaikai boss for giving him a home, but I think there’s more going on.

Overhaul’s goal was to eradicate the belief that human lives have inherent value. He planned to do this by destroying quirks, since he perceived them as the basis of people’s belief that they matter.

Since Overhaul’s dialogue is confusing, here are two other translations of his lines:

“Because people are endowed with these things called ‘quirks,’ they can dream. Dream that maybe they can be someone that matters…they’re all sick in the head! So wipe that smile off your face! Thanks to the power of that girl you were trying to save, everything you’ve worked so hard to cultivate…has just been reduced to naught!” (Ch152, mangastream)

“The diseased…have been given quirks, and that lets them dream. Thinking you can actually become something is an illness of the mind. It’s funny! With the power of that girl you’ve come to save, everything you’ve worked to cultivate…has now gone to waste!” (Ep74, Funimation subs)

Basically, people want to matter, and they use their quirks (symbolizing individuality, and human deviation more broadly) as proof to say they do. So when Mirio loses his quirk, Overhaul’s reaction isn’t, you’re cured, you’ve been purified, you’re normal now. His reaction is, now you are worth nothing, you are a good-for-nothing deku, the illusion of value your life held is gone, everything you held dear was actually a lie.

I think that’s why Overhaul can use his quirk with impunity without seeing the hypocrisy. He essentially views people as infected mice infatuated with their own disease, but he knows better! He knows everyone is worthless! So he’s the only one who’s immune to this mental disease of ~being special~, he doesn’t get any delusions of grandeur, he’s the only one great enough to change the world—etc. When Shigaraki removes his quirk, Overhaul’s illusions are torn away the way he was expecting from Mirio.

But Mirio stands up to Overhaul and asserts that he still chooses to find value in his life without depending on whether he has a quirk. That’s the underlying reason why Overhaul is repulsed by heroism: it’s built on the ideal that people matter, their suffering is bad, they deserve to be saved, and so forth.

These are concepts Overhaul resoundingly rejects, for reasons never explicitly stated, but I think a fair interpretation is to say Overhaul’s noticed that he’s different from other people, and he’s afraid it means there’s something wrong with him. This fear is on par with an existential terror, so he can’t acknowledge it directly, but it drives him to go above and beyond to prove he is a normal person who does belong in the Hassaikai, specifically, and in society more generally.

First, for context:

^^ Regardless of how the yakuza are in reality, in Japanese pop culture their image is two-faced. They can be chivalrous gangsters (honorable criminals who offer shelter to outcasts and uphold the vestiges of samurai culture) or they can be villains (relentless hypocrites who prey on outcasts and commit staggering violence). Even down to the clothes they wear, the boss and Overhaul embody these two yakuza archetypes, and accordingly, they can’t coexist.

At the core of their power struggle is what it means to be a yakuza, and whether Overhaul belongs as one.

This reaches its climax when Overhaul tells the boss about torturing Eri, and the boss tells him it’s time for him to leave the Hassaikai. Overhaul puts the boss in a coma because he can’t bear to be rejected and branded a deviant for his cruelty (“straying from humanity,” “soulless heresy,” “how little do you think of people?”). The boss pretty much outright tells him there’s something wrong with him.

Overhaul never talks about why he thinks so lowly of people. It could be any tragic event in his life, whatever went down before he met the boss, sure, or even just the simple fact that his quirk enables him to disassemble and reassemble people like objects, but I think the answers are in the material Horikoshi emphasizes: in his relationship with the boss, whom Overhaul fixated on as a kid.

The feature that strikes me most in Overhaul’s relationship with the boss is the (lack of) acceptance between them. Overhaul seeks the unconditional acceptance the boss offered him as a child so intensely that I can’t help but think there’s a deeper motive: validation. The “debt” Overhaul feels is an imprecise label for his discomfort; he feels pressured to earn his place in the yakuza because, on some level, he recognizes that he doesn’t belong here among chivalrous gangsters. He consequently overcompensates, though going to such extremes just underscores he is different, but he wants to win the boss’s validation that badly because, without it, Overhaul feels like a freak. He’s afraid that there’s something wrong with him. This emerges most pointedly in his “germophobia.”

Given that he 1) literally breaks into hives and flies into murderous rage when he’s touched, 2) considers heroism and quirks to be a disease, and 3) breaks into hives multiple times purely from the force of his emotions—I think his phobia shouldn’t be taken at face value.

In some way, Overhaul is “allergic” to society. He doesn’t belong in this world, among these cultural values, which is why he seeks to change society.

“return humanity to normal”

^^ Overhaul wants to change the world to match his version of normal, and, remarkably, the fact that he believes it’s more feasible to change the world than to change himself says leagues about how immutable he believes his differentness is. By destroying quirks, Overhaul wants to make everyone the same: worthless. He resents that other people even want to be different because feeling like there’s something wrong with him is his greatest fear.

Shigaraki is Overhaul’s main foil, but…there’s a reason why Twice introduces him.

Twice (narrating): There’s no place for insane guys like me in society. As for the people who heroes like to save…yeah, they’re always the good, virtuous ones. Anyway, I finally accepted me for me and decided to make myself useful to the League of Villains because I wanna be okay with being me. What I’m searching for now is other people just as crazy as I am. The aimless wackos looking for a place to belong… [Overhaul debuts, complaining that he’s surrounded by sickness] Twice: (staring at Overhaul) But now those nutjobs are starting to carve out a place for themselves in this world. Twice: “Okay… To ask…or not to ask?!” Twice: Whether it’s us or the heroes, everyone’s starting to take on a different look nowadays. Knowing who you are is what really matters. Who you wanna become…what you wanna do… It’s real, real important.

Ch115, viz.

Twice’s narration frames Overhaul as someone who’s just as freakish as he is, and it foreshadows “a place to belong” as a key theme of Overhaul’s arc—a theme that Overhaul’s first flashback (to when he met the boss) cements. Overhaul wants somewhere to be accepted and belong precisely because he’s a “crazy wacko” with no place in society. Usurping the boss is Overhaul’s attempt to carve out a place for himself in the world, to fashion the Hassaikai (and society at large) in his image.

Twice’s narration also highlights how Overhaul doesn’t know who he is or what he wants, and consequently, he turns out to be a humungous hypocrite who can’t uphold even a single of the principles he professes. He double-crosses the boss, he isn’t sure if he wants to commodify quirks or eliminate them, and he can’t accept that he, like everyone, is worthless. He’s so afraid that there’s something wrong with him that he instead insists that everyone else is “sick,” everyone else is wrong, not him, he’s the only normal person. Unlike the LoV, who are more or less okay with being outcasts, Overhaul sets out to correct this difference because he can’t bear it.

…And Twice’s foiling underscores Overhaul’s lack of emotional attachments. It’s ludicrous to think Twice would ever lock Shigaraki away and then release him after Twice’s clones have toppled society. Overhaul’s interest in the boss is as a source of validation to help him repress his fear that he’s abnormal, not in the boss as a human person with feelings.

While fighting Deku and Eri, Overhaul recalls putting the boss in a coma. He follows up his flashback with these lines:

Overhaul: “None of you are looking at the big picture here!! What I’m annihilating is the world itself!! Its very structure!! So a pathetic little would-be hero driven by his emotions…reaching out for whatever petty sense of justice he stumbles across [meaning the status quo]…can’t stop me!!”

Ch158, viz.

The “none of you” is very telling—Overhaul is referring to the boss as well as Deku. He resents the boss, and his resentment of heroes is partly a sublimation of that—both Deku and the boss are driven by compassion Overhaul lacks, which disturbs him, so he needs to lash out and tell himself that his motivator, "logic,” is normal.

But regardless of the underlying reason, his most important motivators are that he doesn’t value human lives, and that he feels alienation because, on some level, he fears there’s something wrong with him for that. (<– the boss basically tells him so, by spurning him for being cruel.)

^^ When Deku delivers his final blow, knocking off Overhaul’s mask and sending him crashing to the ground, Horikoshi reveals Overhaul’s face for the first time. It’s a plain face; the mask hides no quirk-related anomaly; ironically, Overhaul’s "remedy” to his phobia (the plague mask, to stop himself from breathing the same air as others) makes him look like more of a weirdo than if he went without it.

His flashback here gives us a glimpse of what it is that inspires Overhaul. Overhaul remembers walking in the rain in the boss—a memory that prompts him to make a last stand…but also, a memory that causes him to break out into hives. Once you look, it’s clear he has no hives before he remembers it.

This is a positive memory, but it’s also an intensely negative one.

Because, deep down, Overhaul knows the boss will never thank him again. Out of buried resentment for the way the boss withheld his acceptance and made Overhaul feel like a freak, Overhaul made a point to trash everything the boss loved—he turned the Hassaikai into villainous bastards and carelessly offs the boss’s devotees, he followed through on his evil plan to use Eri as the base for his anti-quirk serum, and he, uh, put the boss into a coma. He even rejected the name “Chisaki,” the name of the strange man who tried to be a yakuza but whom the boss discarded anyways, and named himself after his quirk in order to “remake” himself into someone new. Clearly, like everyone else, he’s invested in his quirk as a crucial aspect of his identity –.–

But embracing his “true nature” isn’t enough when Overhaul knows that the boss will never accept him again, when he is still different, which is why Overhaul wants the world to change to match his views on humanity, so that he’s normal.

Another time Overhaul spontaneously breaks out into hives is when Shigaraki leaves him.

No hives when Compress and Shigaraki touch him to remove his arms. Overhaul seems to be in shock. But Shigaraki’s words finally penetrate.

“You should just sit back and watch!! Have a nice life!”

“I just want to repay the debt I owe you. So please, just sit back…and watch.”

It’s these words from Shigaraki that prompt Overhaul to break out into hives, probably because, by sheer luck, Shigaraki quotes Overhaul’s last words to the boss. Before putting the boss in a coma, Overhaul told him to sit back and watch—one problem with that being, obviously, that someone in a coma can’t watch. So (again by sheer luck) Shigaraki actually does Overhaul one better and fulfills his words better than he did.

Similarly, Shigaraki is stealing Overhaul’s life’s work—just like how Overhaul stole the boss’s life’s work, the Hassaikai—and Overhaul’s quirk, just like how Overhaul stole Mirio’s…but Shigaraki steals them better than Overhaul did. It’s Overhaul’s lofty ambition to use the quirk serum change the world, to establish himself as normal and at the center of his new society, that serves as the basis of Overhaul’s self-esteem.…and it’s Overhaul’s quirk that gives Overhaul his name.

By removing his quirk, Shigaraki strips Overhaul of the name he gave himself. He’s no longer Overhaul, and he’s not even the boss’s man “Chisaki” anymore—he’s the nameless child on the streets whom everybody shuns. The outcast, the reject, someone who can only sit on the sidelines and helplessly watch.

Overhaul’s arc ends on the contrast between them. Overhaul is introduced as the mature, more methodical villain who threatens to supplant Shigaraki as AfO’s successor, but the story unmasks him as an irredeemable, reprehensible hypocrite who can’t stand by anything. Shigaraki, however, proves he’ll stand for what little ground he ekes out, and he copes with his resentment over his outsider status by openly acknowledging it and bonding with fellow outcasts to forge their own home. 

Ultimately, I think the core of Overhaul’s character boils down to 1) he doesn’t believe that people matter, 2) he feels intense alienation and isolation, and 3) he’s afraid he’s abnormal. How those three things interrelate, which of them is cause and which is effect, is flexible. I figure his hatred of quirks stems from one of these, probably (1).

Power is another consideration, one that I didn’t look at in my analysis since I think his thirst for power is his attempt to belong/alleviate his sense of abnormality by gaining status. And, though I think Overhaul is framed as a sociopath-like person whose lack of empathy is innate, I think there could be a solid characterization made for his extreme lack of empathy being a consequence of nurture, like he feels like a freak due to a childhood tragedy.

Miscellaneous Overhaul details;

Overhaul doesn’t seem to break out into hives when he touches dirty inanimate objects, like the floor; his phobia of “dirtiness” is focused on people.

His phobia is implied to have escalated or begun during adulthood. He didn’t seem to wear a mask as a kid, nor did he seem to break into hives before the canon timeline (Overhaul has no hives in any of his flashbacks, even when he’s cutting Eri or surrounded by gore).

Overhaul begins to wear his plague mask after a major argument with the boss over proper conduct for a yakuza.

Despite being Overhaul’s father-figure, the boss called him “Chisaki” instead of “Kai”—he might’ve been too traditional/stuffy to use Overhaul’s given name even when he was just a kid.

Mirio reminds Overhaul of the boss, which is why their fight gets so personal.

Overhaul hates Eri so much because they’re similar—both are “aberrations” who don’t belong. Eri is emphasized as a mutation who was rejected by even her mom, and the boss explicitly links their quirks…except that Eri has what he wants: the boss’s acceptance and a “normal” compassionate disposition, the latter of which he viciously leverages against her in order to punish her for it.

And also like…by virtue of being a young, little, helpless, sweet girl, meaning that she’s the perfect victim heroes always want to save more than anything, her life is disproportionately valuable to people, and that’s the sort of sentimental value Overhaul wants to destroy.

so because i’m a simple slut with simple tastes, we’re going with a bnha au where a good amount of characters are transported to a room and cannot leave until they have watched all of my hero academia. the characters’ memories are somewhere between season 2 and season 3. chaos, screaming, unlikely understandings, friendships, and, most importantly, hijinks ensue. 

everyone decides to adopt young izuku, including the villains (well, specifically toga) 

people sliiiiightly judge bakugou for how much of a jerk to izuku he was before ua

“bro. telling people to jump off buildings is the farthest thing from manly.” “yeah yeah, i know shitty hair.”

he’s TRYING but also he’s a little shit

kirishima thinks it's incredibly manly how izuku ran into the fight with the sludge villain to save bakugou, and realizes that that's the boy he heard about all those months ago 

a few of 1-a is surprised that izuku was quirkless, but no one judges him for it 

people are enthralled with the "one for all" story, and shouto is a little disappointed his theory that izuku is all might's child did turn out to be false. though... his father hasn’t actually been shown yet, has he?

aizawa: *does anything that suggests he’s tired*

shinsou, every time, without fail: mood 

inko clutches izuku very tightly during the usj attack, as if to reassure herself he’ll be okay.

mineta: *does anything, ever*

literally everyone: ew

everyone laughs at “are you really all might’s secret love child or something?”, but laughs quickly turn into looks of worry when shouto explains exactly how he got his quirks. all might is horrified that his spot as the number one hero caused endeavor to “train” his children, and something akin to wavering disbelief flashes in hawks’ eyes

a lot of people try to reassure shinsou that his quirk is really cool and heroic and useful during and after his battle with izuku, while the villains glance among each other in interest. a useful quirk indeed.

kaminari: hey, don’t worry, with a face like that, you could get any villain talking to you in no time!

shinsou:

shinsou: did you just... flirt with me?

after “todoroki shouto: origin” happens, most of the people in the room begin booing endeavor when he shows up onscreen, and dabi decides hey, maybe these brats they’re supposed to attack in a few days aren’t so bad after all

on the opposite end of the spectrum, the room erupts into cheering and clapping when “it’s yours! your quirk, not his!” causes shouto to accept both sides of his power. does it matter they knew he’d use his left side eventually? not at all

a few people are very distraught over stain finding ingenium, even spinner to a lesser extent, since he’d never really thought of ingenium as too bad a “hero”. the students are quick to distract iida and move onto the next part of the story. it doesn’t do much, not really, but he appreciates it.

endeavor grumbles lightly about how shouto could have won the sports festival if he had used his left side during his fight with bakugou. no one pays him any mind.

there's a collective sigh of relief + cheering when izuku shows up to save iida from stain, even though they knew he'd be fine 

during the exams arc, all the students from 1-a cheer each other on, despite the fact that they know who passes and who doesn't

eri is surprised to find out that nezu was experimented on. he wasn’t cursed like she was, why did it happen to him?

the camp arc is filled with a lot of screaming, yelling, and panic, and everyone (even a few of the villains) are on the edge of their seats in fear when izuku is fighting muscular. inko and all might have about fifty heart attacks each 

as soon as the dabi onscreen uses his quirk, fuyumi is very startled because “but that’s- that’s touya’s quirk!”

dabi: shit

bakugou is confident that future him will be just fine while captured by the LoV, but he's actually pretty afraid of what exactly they want him for 

almost EVERYONE is cheering all might on when he's facing off against all for one, and a shared feeling of horror clouds the room when it's revealed that he must retire 

during the next episode, natsuo attempts to break the tension

“well, no matter what happens, dad’ll always be number two in my heart.”

it works. fuyumi just sighs, but even she smiles a bit

everyone groans in frustration when bakugou yells at those two actors during the license exams arc, and it continues when shouto and wind boy from the other school (forgot his name) are fighting. it’s like when you’re watching sports and your favorite team has suddenly lost their brains but there’s nothing you can do except yell at the tv in anger

bakusquad ABSOLUTELY hugs bakugou when "when i'm the one who killed all might!" is said on the screen.

“what is this” “affection” “gross. keep doing it whatever idc”

plenty of people are laughing when mirio- or well, mirio's face- makes his debut 

kaminari exclaims “is his quirk turning people into potatoes?” when tamaki is introduced

the only thing stopping toga from stabbing the overhaul on the screen as soon as he kills magne is mr. compress, and even then it's only because they don't know if the screen will repair itself 

everyone - and i mean EVERYONE, even the villains - adopts eri the second she shows up in season four 

“i’ve only known eri for two seconds but if anything happened to her i’d kill everyone in this room and then myself” “shigaraki eri is also in this room” “did i stutter?”

he’s a little confused, but he has the spirit

after the group finds out what exactly eri is going through, there's a collective boo whenever overhaul is onscreen (the same thing happened with endeavor during season two, but it stopped at around the middle of season three) 

as you can see, i do not like overhaul. also, he's not here bc idk how to write him 

same thing with all for one, and a few other minor/major characters. afo can eat his own teeth for all i care.

everyone, especially the big three, izuku, and all might, are horrified when mirio loses his quirk

worst of all, eri just won’t stop apologizing, and despite his hidden shock and dismay, mirio tells her it’s not her fault, and he will do it again if he has to. future him will never let her get hurt again, and neither will he

dabi & spinner gain a lot of respect for mirio & izuku, since they're what stain would call true heroes. maybe there's a way they can make a new society without those two having to die 

no, everyone was NOT crying when eri jumped into izuku's arms in infinte 100%, what are you talking about? 

screaming. SO MUCH SCREAMING when deku is fully at 100% 

okay, they gave up trying to hide their tears when nighteye died. tamaki and nejire hold a shocked mirio a little closer, and barely are enough to keep eri from bursting into tearful apologies again. jeez, why did this arc have to be so emotional? 

mina is absolutely not above cheering herself on while dancing. she’d do it again in a heartbeat

everyone is enthralled with how pretty jirou's voice is. also, momo's gay now? what? 

despite the fact that they're criminals, a lot of people are greatly saddened by gentle and la brava’s backstories, and make a mental note to never let themselves forget them

the hero too song is met with a lot of cheering, dancing, and attempted singing (mostly thanks to bakusquad), and is generally a pretty lighthearted moment for the group. even some of the teachers and villains get in on the fun, especially twice

the todoroki siblings are hit with the horrible fact that despite everything, they do not want their father to die. even then, though...

endeavor: *gets his scar* 

shouto: wow, that must suck. wonder what that's like? 

natsuo has never been more proud of his brother than he is in that moment, and dabi has to carefully stop himself from laughing

Every single one of his students were partially his children at this point. Though he wasn’t going to admit that to their faces, he was fairly certain from the grins he got when he grouched about them they had guessed how he really felt.

He supported them throughout the trials and hardships of being stuck as high schoolers for nearly forty years now. They had plenty of happy, sad, uncomfortable, and embarrassing moments between them at this point, especially when the dorms ended up being built each first year.

He stocked them with enough candy, soda, and junk food to give them all heart attacks by twenty-five if they ever broke out of these damned loops, but also encouraged healthy eating ad spent more of his own money on keeping fresh produce and food in their kitchen then he was willing to admit.

He trained them passed what he ever had before, knowing that while their skills and abilities reverted each time they returned back to the start, the knowledge and muscle memory stayed and he wasn’t going to allow them to slack no matter how much he wanted to. It didn’t mean he was above treating them enough that Mic and Midnight had accused him of going soft more than a few times.

He allowed them more freedom then he used to because he knew they weren’t as naive as they once were, turning a blind eye if they brought alcohol back to the dorms, or got up to some ‘extra training’, though he took a certain twisted glee in forcing them all to sit through the safe sex talk each time they switched genders. He was not dealing with any of them getting pregnant, even if it meant throwing condoms at the red faces of his children and talking to Recovery Girl about getting the girls on birth control.

Even so, he felt so far separated from the students that were sixteen years younger than him. He was the adult, the only adult in this situation. Sure he was making sure to keep his relationships with his friends and lovers in every timeline they ended in, putting in the effort to be a good friend and allowing a few more of his walls to fall around them then he ever would in the original timeline, but there was only so much that could be helped when he could discuss the strain time traveling was having on him.

Sure he could talk to the children but… what kind of father was he if he put his own problems onto the kids that were just doing their best to stay afloat? He was their support, they didn’t need him breaking down on them to weigh them down further.

That’s how he found himself in bed at 3 am, on the first day of school, trying desperately to go back to sleep before he needed to go see the brats for the ‘first time’ all over again.

Had he slept in his bed the first time? He couldn’t remember, though he would appreciate it if the switch didn’t happen at ungodly hours of the morning.

Finally, at 5:30 he gave up and slowly made his way to the school. If anyone asked he could just claim that he had covered a patrol the night before and curl up into his sleeping bag until he had to be down in class 1-A at 8:45.

He tried to think over the changes to the timeline, as he entered the school, memories of this timeline crowding around his memories of the original and subsequent timelines, though he found himself fidgeting with his capture weapon in a way he hadn’t since high school, seems as if he never kicked the habit after Mic teased him one too many times this go around.

Everything seemed to be similar enough to the first timeline based on his memories with a few minor changes, he and Mic weren’t dating, this go around, but were still good friends. He had almost not made it into the hero course his first year due to taking second in the Sports Festival, but it was found out during the break between semesters the kid that beat him had cheated and was subsequently demoted to Gen Ed while Aizawa has been moved up. He still worked with vigilantes, though he was more friendly with them then he originally was.

Nothing too major for him to keep in mind about himself then, what about recent events?

He recalled watching the entrance exams, seeing the students through an overly critical eye, making snide comments he hadn’t truly believed since the third loop, he can’t think of any major changes from his kids, except… Midoriya…

He hadn’t shattered three limbs this time, had he?

No, if he remembered correctly the boy had actually managed to wrack up a mediocre five points from the robots this time from a lance and throwing knives he seemed to summon out of thin air before the Zero-pointer had appeared. He had still launched himself to impossible heights by a pair of wings that seemed to be made of light and blasted the robot back with a bolt of pale green lightning before passing out. Recovery Girl said there was nothing she could do for him but let him sleep. He hadn’t bothered to check up on the boy after that, not knowing him yet.  

Whatever his power was it was powerful, but was it still One for All?

It didn’t seem like it. That would be new, not seeing the boy cultivate the power bestowed upon him by All Might.

But now that he thought about it he couldn’t remember the meeting introducing All Might to the staff including the truly mind breaking revelation of the man’s true skeletal form… was it possible that he never got injured… Was he still the Yagi that Aizawa had started treasuring as a friend almost as much as he did Hizashi, Nemuri, and Tensei?  

His answer came sooner then he thought when he entered the staff room, blissfully empty at this earlier hour, only to hear a quiet sob from the adjoining bathroom. He slowly worked his way over, mind racing as he tried to figure out which of his coworkers could possibly be having a mental breakdown before the first day when he started making out the mumbling.

“-do this. It’s just a bit different than times before. You just need to… make friends again and find a way to train Young Midoriya to be your successor again… or is his current quirk to different? Damnit can I still give it to him without the other teachers growing suspicious? … I can’t give it to someone else… even if he’s not the same… it’s always been him…”

Yagi was… what did he mean by again? He couldn’t possibly…

“Stupid Stupid Stupid. Why are you even looking for a succeeder? I have a lot of life left in me now, I’m only 49… I really am pathetic, huh. Even now...”

The sobs were becoming too much for Aizawa to listen to without intervening, he had to know…

All Might jumped and whirled around to stare at him with wide eyes as Aizawa stood in the doorway. The tear tracks and red rim eyes worried Aizawa but he couldn’t help but notice the man in front of him wasn’t quite filling out his suit, even if it wasn’t quite as noticeable as it usually was, the shadows around his face receding almost entirely and his iconic bunny ears were gone, framing around his face in crinkled strands instead.

“Aizawa-kun!” He squeaked, scrubbing his face harshly, attempting to paint his famous smile back on, “I wasn’t expecting anyone to be here for another hour… I’m sorry that you had to witness me like this, it seems I was more panicked about teaching then I-”

“Toshinori,” He cut in causing a startled gasp to escape the man, who he couldn’t recall ever telling them his true name this timeline, “If I said the names Eri and Overhaul, what would you think of?”

The number one hero stiffened, hands clenching next to his legs as his shoulders shook.

“A very sweet little girl that needs saving and a maniac that harmed Eri-chan because of his quirk. How would you describe them?”

Aizawa couldn’t help the smile that tugged at his cheeks, “My daughter that I never get enough time with, who loves apples, Deku, Mirio, and to braid my hair with purple ribbons, and a sociopath with a god complex that despises quirks.”

All Might’s legs gave out after he started describing his little girl, sinking to the floor with another sob on his lips.

“You’re stuck too,” He whispered, as Shouta came to sit next to him, “You’ve been going through these damn loops just like I have.”

“Number 12,” He agreed, “You’ve been through this alone?”

The man nodded, but a real smile was already pulling his lips upward, “But, we have each other now, right? We don’t have to be alone anymore!”

Aizawa didn’t fight a smile, “Optimistic as always, you damn sunflower.”

He laughed, “How can I be upset? I’ve just received the best news I’ve had since this entire thing has started!”

“I don’t know,” Aizawa huffed, “I think finding out you still have your stomach and lung is pretty good news.”

“It came with the price of Young Midoriya knowing me, however,” He sighed, a sad tinge entering his words, “I prefer the constant pain to not having my boy being with me.”

“Well…” Aizawa drew out, “I don’t know if that’s entirely true.”

When Aizawa marched into class with the number one hero in tow, the students all froze, Kaminari snatching up the eraser to erase the words he and Bakugo were already writing on the whiteboard Momo must have created when she arrived. A glance over the room confirmed that all 20 students were there.

“Hello Class,” He greeted with a slight smirk, “I would like you to meet Yagi Toshinori, or as you know him better, All Might, he’s Looper number 22.”

That’s all it took for Midoriya to launch himself out of his chair and leaping across the room into his mentor’s arms, who caught him on instinct as he looked like he was about to start crying again. Aizawa had done his best to help Izuku through the strain of being so close yet so far from his mentor as he went through the motions of getting to know him over and over again even though he already knew the stories of One for All and All for One down to the finest detail and knew Yagi enough that he had called him dad in almost every timeline they had been in so far. From the tight hold Yagi had on his successor, and the gentle way he cupped the back of his head, it was clear the strain had been mutual.

The others stood back, eyes wide as they kept looking back between the hugging pair and Aizawa.

He merely sighed lightly shoving Yagi’s shoulder, “Get in the room idiots, unless you want to explain why you’re hugging a student you should not know in any fashion.”

“Easy,” Todoroki offered, “Just claim you’re his secret love child.”

Midoriya groaned, pulling his face from his mentor’s neck, “I told you for the last time, Shoto. I’m not biologically related to All Might!”

Yagi just laughed, withheld tears causing his voice to be raspier then anything, “Well…”

Aizawa smirked, “Oh? Do tell Toshi.”

The man moved Izuku to one hip rubbing the back of his neck with his open hand, “Two loops… or maybe three loops ago, Young Midoriya was my biological son, though Inko made me promise to not tell him until he turned 18, even after finding out I was training him to be my protege. I decided it didn't change the bond we were forming so why did it matter?”  

“Oh my god,” Deku whispered, “I can’t believe your conspiracy theories came true.”

“I’m not really surprised by anything anymore when it comes to these damn loops,” Shinsou sighed getting a groan of approval from around the room.

“Enough talking,” Aizawa snapped, “Y’all know the drill by now.”

Yagi raised an amused brow, “Y'all? It looks like I’ve rubbed off on you a bit my friend,”

“Shut your star-spangled mouth, I want to get this over with as soon as possible so I don’t have Midnight and Mic pounding down my door to ask why I’m going so easy on the class.”

Mina snorted, “Like they didn't think you tried to adopt us all by the second month in the original timeline.”

“Detention for slander, Ashino,” He called as he walked to the front of the room, cuffing her lightly on the back of the head as he passed.

He forcibly had to stop himself from rolling his eyes as he sees the whole class grinning up at him as he leaned on his podium. All Might having sat on his desk with Midoriya still fused to his side.

“Okay since Katsuki and Denki are leading this thing this time you get to explain to All Might what’s we do every time we start a loop.”

The kids launch into a quick explanation as Katsuki rewrote all the rules again and copied down the major changes they had noted already.

Midoriya’s new quirk, Astral Weaving, was in the number one spot, but under it was also a few changes about families and old classes. Most interesting was how Shoto was still in contact with Toya but was pretty sure based on his looping memories that his brother was still Dabi.

“I got nothing to add,” Aizawa hummed turning to his coworker, “Yagi?”

The man just smiled before smoke began rising from his form, causing Deku to blink as his seat only shrunk slightly.

“Holy Fuck!” Sero cried, causing the entire room to be up in arms, awe, and happiness rushing through them to see their teacher was okay for the first time since they meet him.

Aizawa didn’t even try to lessen the smile on his face as he saw the first real All Might patented grin, not just a facade, not just the fake plastered on one that never seemed to reach his eyes that he had gotten so used to seeing since the beginning of the loops.

Surrounded by his friend and their kids, Aizawa could finally see the silver lining again. ___________________________________________

Bam! Im gonna hit you with more various Honoka hcs.

⁃ So when Noka was a baby, neither her dad or Shirou knew what the hell to do with her wings.

⁃ Her first word was "Siro" which was exposed to be "Shirou"

⁃ She would fly around and their dad would make Shirou chase her down.

⁃ When Shirou and Noka were taken in by their uncle, he just slept and let her do whatever.

⁃ Their uncle, also known as Eraserhead, was a very kind guardian

⁃ He went to each of Shirou's ballet concerts, and did Noka's hair for picture day

⁃ If you looked through his search history it would be filled with "how to do a braid for beginners"

⁃ Aizawa bought Noka various art supplies and bought Shirou new shoes whenever they needed them

⁃ Didnt want them to become heroes

⁃ Cause he didnt want to see the two children he practically raised to be hurt

⁃ But because of their ties to All for One, the government forced both of them to become heros to "prove" that they had severed their bonds with All for One

⁃ Shirou's dream was to become a professional dancer and Noka's was to become a professional artist

⁃ And Aizawa was not happy that the two lights in his life were torn from their dreams

⁃ And so Shirou got accepted into the hero program, in class 1-A

⁃ He chose the hero name Shifter

⁃ Cause he could shift into any organic form

⁃ When he got 3rd place at the sports festival, Noka ran around her uncle's apartment screaming with joy

⁃ Noka is literally his biggest fan

⁃ Noka's first friend was a small purple haired boy name Hitoshi Shinsou

⁃ So naturally, she called him Toshi

⁃ And she refused to call him anything else all throughout middle and high school

⁃ Shinsou and Noka have sleepovers all the time and you can't tell me otherwise

⁃ When people would tell Shinsou that his quirk was villainous, Noka would always speak up cause she knew Shinsou wouldnt contradict them

⁃ Noka is always like that

⁃ Speaking up for others and herself. And her smart mouth tends to get her in trouble

⁃ Shinsou would fuss over Noka's wings. Like if they were dirty or a few feathers were out of place, Shinsou would sit her down and fix her wings.

⁃ "Toshi, your inner mom is showing"

⁃ "Its not my fault you cant take proper care of your wings"

⁃ When she told Shinsou about her acceptance into U.A's med course, he couldn't have been prouder

⁃ Noka is actually the one who encouraged Shinsou to train with her uncle.

⁃ But before that lets talk about Noka's time at U.A. so far

⁃ She was first introduced to class 1-A during the first combat training

⁃ Healed everyone who got very minor injuries

⁃ At the USJ attack, Shigiraki deteriorated part of Noka's hip. But her extremely enhanced natural healing abilities stopped the deterioration

⁃ So she has this big ass scar on the back side of her left hip

⁃ She wanted to absolutely murder Shigiraki for letting the Nomu loose on her uncle

⁃ But she doesnt have any damaging fire power

⁃ So she just tried to heal her uncle's wounds the best she could

⁃ Nearly gets herself killed many times with her smart assery

⁃ And gives everyone around her a heart attack in the process

⁃ During the sports festival, she helped RG heal all the students

⁃ Reprimanded Deku for overusing OfA

⁃ Oh yeah, she learned about AfO and OfA from her time with All for One

⁃ Is kind of like to Deku like Recovery Girl is to All Might

⁃ So fast foward to the internships

⁃ She interns with another oc of mine, Snow

⁃ Who is a healer but with incredible attack powers

⁃ Coincidentally, Noka was patrolling Hosu when the nomus hit

⁃ She recieved Deku's distress signal and ran to the scene

⁃ She didnt attack the hero killer, but ran to help Native and made sure he didnt bleed out

⁃ The hero killer didnt bat a single eye at her, deeming her not a threat

⁃ In the end, she didnt harm Stain so her hero guardian? didnt have to take any blame for her actions

⁃ Noka however did get nearly ripped in half by a nomu, so she had to stay in the hospital with Todo and Deku

⁃ So— Summer training arc

⁃ She just looked at her class and said "fuck this" and flew over the whole forest

⁃ She actually beat the wild wild pussycats back to the camp

⁃ She got to know Kota, telling him how she never wanted to become a hero

⁃ Kota may or may not have developed a kiddie crush on her 😳

⁃ But anyways, when everyone else saw her all nice and refreshed, needless to say they were upset

⁃ Some more than others

⁃ *remembers Bakugou nearly blowing off Noka's face because she cheated*

⁃ Aizawa just smirking at his niece cause shes so much like her mother

⁃ At the beginning of UA, our Noka could barely heal up a small cut

⁃ So when they do the haunted quirk thingy

⁃ Hairi and Noka are paired up, to their delight

⁃ But they aren't able to go into the forest before the attack happens

⁃ Apparently, the league came for Bakugou and Noka

⁃ Cause the "master" wanted his first nomu to return to him

⁃ But all Deku knew was "they are after Kacchan and the master's first Nomu"

⁃ Nobody knew who the first nomu was except for Noka

⁃ See, AfO took and gave Noka various quirks, eventually ending up with her current quirk(s)

⁃ Eventually, Noka is cornered by Dabi

⁃ His fire power vastly out matches hers

⁃ But she puts up one hell of a fight

⁃ And Kurogiri took her before she woke up and fought back even more

⁃ So everyone was panicking when they couldnt find Noka

⁃ Aizawa was panicking them most

⁃ His precious niece was missing, no, taken by the league

⁃ The students had never seen their teacher so frazzled

⁃ The thing that broke Aizawa more was the look on Shirou's face when he told him that his baby sister was missing

⁃ His precious baby sister

⁃ His whole world

⁃ Shirou didnt go out of his room for days

⁃ He was there when they were to save Bakugou and Noka

⁃ All Might fought AfO, and won

⁃ But there was no sign of Noka

⁃ Shirou nearly tackled Bakugou, demanding, no, more like pleading for him to tell him where she was

⁃ Bakugou merely said "She's gone, and I dont know where she went"

⁃ The whole class was in a panic

⁃ Where was Noka? Was she hurt? Was she scared? Was she in danger?

⁃ And the question that hung on everyone's mind the most was

⁃ Is she alive?

⁃ The emptiness of Noka's desk was deafening

⁃ Their smart ass classmate was nowhere to be found

⁃ And they all felt guilty

⁃ But none more than Bakugou

⁃ For he was the last to see her alive so to speak

⁃ And her last words to him were "Forget about me ya big oaf, you hear me? I don't want you sulking, or I'll personally beat your ass."

⁃ Forget about her? How could he do that?

⁃ Noka was the only person who didn't put up with his bullshit

⁃ From day one she put him in his place

⁃ And honestly shes the closest thing to a sister he has

⁃ During the hero license exam, all of class 1-A decided that Noka would be really upset if they all sulked and failed their exams

⁃ But the fact that only Todoroki and Bakugou failed would make her fall into hysterics

⁃ When class 1-A met the big three, Mirio told them that Noka was strong and stubborn to a fault, so they shouldnt worry about things that arent in their control

⁃ To which they asked how he knew her

⁃ Apparently Shirou, Amajiki, and Mirio have all been friends since elementary school

⁃ So Amajiki and Mirio had been there a lot for many crucial parts of Noka's childhood

⁃ When the work studies started, Deku went on patrol with Mirio and Shirou, AKA Lemillion and Shifter

⁃ Shirou couldnt help but feel so much guilt crushing him when Eri jumped out of Deku's arms

⁃ Cause Eri reminded him of his little sister

⁃ Speaking of little sister

⁃ For the last 2 months, Noka had been experimented on by Kai Chisaki

⁃ In the mean time trying to protect Eri and building a loving friendship with the young girl

⁃ But ive alreadly talked about this part

⁃ So skipping to when they save her

⁃ It was a total shock for them

⁃ To see this wingless, pale, frail, bandage wrapped girl

⁃ And even more so when she spoke

⁃ Not having that bite that their Noka had

⁃ But a softer, more broken voice replaced her normally boisterous and confident voice

⁃ In the big battle agains Chisaki, Noka got slammed against a wall

⁃ Which in normal circumstances would be fine, but with her body in such a week state it immediately cracked her ribs and spine

⁃ Ochako helped get her friend to the ambulance as quick as she could

⁃ Shirou saw a fluff of pale pink hair out of the corner of his eye

⁃ He immediately turned to run towards the medical stretcher, but was stopped

⁃ He kicked and screamed something along the lines of "THATS MY BABY SISTER. PLEASE LET ME SEE HER"

⁃ In the most broken voice you would ever hear

⁃ In the hospital, after Sir. Nighteye had passed, Deku, Kirishima, Amajiki, Shirou, Ochako, Tsu and Aizawa were all waiting anxiously for Noka's surgery

⁃ When all of a sudden the door explodes open and the nurses and doctors are shoved out by an invisible force of heat

⁃ Noka was using her ability to set herself aflame and be healed in the ashes

⁃ But no one knew wtf was going on cause she learned the trick at the Hassaiki hideout

⁃ So p a n i k

⁃ But after the doctors confirmed her stablility, they all went back to school

⁃ The whole class bursted into tears when they told them about Noka

⁃ Jirou, Kaminari, Momo and Mina all being the most emotionally impacted

⁃ Bakugou was almost crying witb relief but he disnt show jt

⁃ They weren't allowed to see Noka for a whole month

⁃ Only family were allowed

⁃ She was hard at work recovering and going through therapy and they didnt want to disturb her

⁃ But when they (Kirishima, Deku, Ochako, and Tsu) did visit, they were shocked

⁃ There was this soft spoken, trembling, woman, and this was after a month of intense therapy

⁃ They hadnt event started physcial therapy yet, they wanted to get her tk the point she could be around others without going into a panic mode

⁃ Thus she needs the wheelchair

UGH DUDE I could talk about Aizawa for hours. He amazes me. One thing I really like is that the whole ‘rationality’ part of his character isn’t at odds with the part that cares for his students. He loves them so much. I find it endlessly funny that even villains can’t help but think he’s kind of amazing. He’s a great hero. I love him.

All of them the USJ holds a special place in my heart cos this man really decided to throw hands like like 70 villains at once to protect a bunch of kids he’d known for like a week and if that’s not Aizawa in a nutshell I don’t know what is

Idea for a story

I wanna eventually write a few little one shots about Aizawa and the students, little things like introducing new things to Eri and having some comfort. The last one I considered then threw away was Eri finding out about birthday parties and taking it upon herself to throw a surprise on for Aizawa with the help of Mirio, Shinsou and Class 1-A

Unpopular opinion

I don’t think I really have any of him. Other than I see a lot of HCs that he can’t cook for shit. I think he can cook but he just doesn’t, he just goes for whatever is the least amount of effort with the most amount of sustenance. I think he would see it as a super important skill to have.

Ohhh and also I don’t think Aizawa (at least single, more canon Aizawa) owns any cats. I think he’d be super reluctant to actually have a cat of his own since he wouldn’t be able to spend much time with it and give it proper attention and care. I think he’d more likely spend lots of time and money looking after strays and visiting cat cafes and shelters. I think he’d see it as cruel to have a cat knowing that he might neglect it being away so much and that the possibility of abandoning it if something happens and he dies would stop him from getting one no matter how much he loves them.

It’s no secret erasermic owns my heart, but I’m way more invested in his platonic relationships with the students. But I’m also chill with the other characters he’s shipped with like All Might, it’s hard not to enjoy any of them since there’s so much amazing fanart and work out there

Favourite headcanon

I LOVE the headcanon that Eri has him wrapped around her finger, more than anyone else. He just vibes with her kid logic so much that outside of things that could actually be dangerous he will give in to her every whim. She can do no wrong. She wants to paint pictures by sticking the end of her hair in paint? Sure. She’s experimenting with different mediums and that’s good for child development, paint will wash out. She wants to have cake for dinner? It’s not very nutritionally balanced but her body is craving sugar so yeah let’s have cake for dinner. She wants to jump off the roof because it looked cool in a movie? Say less, Midoriya get over here and launch my kid from the rooftop and I’ll catch her. She wants to watch a horror movie? Alright, it will be good to explain how they use special effects to make it look like that man just lost his head but the actor is fine. I think he’s not used to being around children and she’s already different from others her age that he sees everything as a learning experience for her so as long as he doesn’t think it will hurt her and he can answer whatever questions she’ll have while doing it he’ll just let her do it. It raises a lot of eyebrows from people that are like “hey she can’t do that have you ever met a human child before?” And he’s just like “I’m sure I have at some point but consider this: Eri is special (:”

Support Student Katsuki AU Pt. 14

Eri is now here, and she’s damn adorable. The whole school loves her, though she stays closest to Aizawa, Mirio, and Izuku.

Now Katsuki will be the first to say he’s not great with kids. They don’t make sense to him. Katsuki was always a weird kid, mature for his age, smart and driven, and so the concept of a 5-6 year old not working towards some sort of goal is plain weird for him.

Despite this, he ends up meeting Eri sooner rather than later. Izuku really wanted him to, so reluctantly he does.

Turns out, they take to each other instantly.

Eri has been through quite a bit in her life, and as much as she loves the coddling she gets from everyone else, Katsuki is unique in how he treats her. He never really babies her, never lies to her or sugarcoats anything. His nickname for her is “Brat”, he looks at her with an unimpressed gaze, nags her like he does everyone else, and helps her get up to all sorts of mischief.

Compared to the highly sterile environment she came from, full of honey-sweet promises, soft poisonous words and eyes that watched her far too closely, Katsuki is a breath of fresh air.

She calls him Kacchan because Izuku accidentally introduced him like that, and later because she’s one of the few people who can get away with it.

Being around fighting is still very scary for Eri, so often times, particularly during hero training, she ends up with Katsuki. He’s decided he likes her, because she’s a well-behaved little kid and now that she’s started to come out of her shell she’s a little terror too. So he takes her to his lab during hero training and teaches her all sorts of support student stuff.

Mei takes one look at her and decides this is her new little sister, and she and Katsuki regularly get into fights over whose the better big sibling.

The support student lab is nothing like the labs Eri knew, it’s filled with stuff, it’s messy, and there’s so much love tucked into every corner of the room. She adores it, and soon enough she’s got her own little spot among the chaos. Her projects are mostly crafts, but all the students adore them and make sure to tell her as much. Katsuki loves teaching her new stuff, and she loves to learn. Before anyone knows it, Eri is basically an honorary support student too.

When they find out about the accumulation requirement on her quirk, Katsuki volunteers to help puzzle it out. He has to be very careful about it, he doesn’t want her to feel like an experiment, but it’s important for them to know. Honestly by this point Eri has fallen so in love with science (from him) and learning about quirks (from Izuku), that she’s even more into it than he is. She’s got a notebook that she records all their trials in, ranging from “did a blood test” to “looked at the material of the horn” to “followed Tamaki’s example and just ate a ton of different things to see if that did anything”.

While Katsuki is bonding with Eri, there’s a whole other layer of dramatics going on.

See, Shouto, having realized his crush and been hit head on by the idea he might lose Izuku after the raid. His solution is not to talk his feelings out with the two of them like a rational human being. Instead he tries to be as nice as possible to Katsuki and Izuku, while avoiding any physical contact and not being alone with either of them. Prior to all of this, Izuku had slowly been getting a crush on Shouto. This is not helped by Shouto acting super weird. 

Katsuki certainly thinks Shouto is hot, that’s been true since day one. Feelings... are weird for him. Honestly, Katsuki can’t tell you when he fell in love with Izuku. At some point it happened, and that’s where he is now. It took quite awhile though, he’s not the sort to fall in love easily. Love just isn’t on his mind.

What is on his mind is talking Mina and Denki into putting on some fucking armor. Never mind figuring out the absolute mess of Momo’s situation.

Sure, Shouto’s been acting weird but Katsuki assumes the guy is figuring his shit out and leaves him alone about it. He can also tell Izuku’s got a crush on the guy, but Izuku gets crushes super easily so Katsuki doesn’t bother him about it. Really, he’s not the jealous type, he and Izuku have been in a relationship for ages, and Izuku’s stuck with him through hell. Even if Izuku’s got a thing for someone else, he still dedicates so much of his life to Katsuki, it’d be impossible for him to think Izuku doesn’t love him too. 

This leaves Katsuki at the eye of the storm, having fun and bonding with Eri as romantic messes unfold all around him.

Whatever, he’s got a little sister to help out, those two idiots will figure out their feelings eventually.

BnHA Chapter 171: Knock Them Dead With Your Sound

Previously on BnHA: Deku and Mirio visited Eri in the hospital. Eri apologized for everything they went through in order to save her, particularly Mirio who lost his powers. Mirio told her it wasn’t her fault and that everyone was just glad she was safe, and they all wanted to see her smiling face. Eri tried to smile but couldn’t quite manage it. Deku racked his brain for ways to cheer her up, and struck on the idea of inviting her to the cultural festival. Aizawa said he’d need to ask the principal but that it could probably be arranged. After Mirio explained the concept, Eri agreed, saying that she wanted to get to know everyone better. We then cut to the police, who were watching a live broadcast of a convenience store robbery and trying to trace its source. The robber, a gentleman thief named -- wait for it -- Gentle, took out six heroes in the blink of an eye and then left without taking any money. He said he wanted his name to be etched into history, and as he met up with his accomplice afterwards, he pondered what his next great exploit should be.

Today on BnHA: We are properly introduced to Gentle and his social media-savvy adoring fan La Brava. Gentle specializes in “chivalrous crimes” that target corruption. However his recent videos haven’t been as popular, in part because Stain and the League of Villains have been stealing his thunder. Back at U.A., word begins to spread about class A’s band performance and dance program. Bakugou overhears some grumps complaining about how cocky 1-A is and how they’re the ones who “start all the conflict.” That evening the kids meet to hash out who will be in charge of what. Jirou needs a drummer, and it turns out Bakugou plays drums, but he’s pissed at the idea of being obligated to provide stress relief for the other departments. As he puts it, “we aren’t getting smacked down by the villains because we enjoy it.” Instead he reframes the whole thing as a battle, and vows to knock U.A. dead with his sound. I mean, whatever works I guess. Meanwhile Gentle reveals to La Brava that he’s planning a new stunt which will surpass anything Stain or the League has done: he plans to invade U.A.

and THAT means Getting The Band Back Together because that was an Important Moment in the development of eri’s happiness and safety and joy and she’ll need that energy going into adolescence.

it also means asking aizawa to cater because like he’s a chef or something in his spare time right? ‘you should ask literally anyone else’ says aizawa, ‘that is not the kind of cooking i do. it is in fact virtually the antithesis of the cooking i do.’ but eri gives him her Big Doe Eye Look Of Awe all ‘you can cook and you’ll make food for me???’ so now he has to do it. it’s perfectly rational ok.

(hmm ok this turned into a whole thing, so let’s throw that under a cut)

so that’s happening and casa momokamijirou is now band practice central. which means some Domestic Fucking OT3 Shenanigans. progress on this is discussed during the weekly breakfast and todoroki offers to be part of the tech crew again. he also recently worked a case with inasa. which is a thing that keeps happening every few months somehow despite being on opposite ends of the country, and he’s like ‘yo you know airbending would make for some cool effects. i’ll see if i can rope him in somehow. it shouldn’t be hard, he does like kids.’

inasa is successfully roped in. tech crew planning occurs. ‘wow inasa sure is enthusiastic about this’ todoroki thinks to himself one day while he eats cold soba in his office at 4 pm because villains have no respect for reasonable lunch hours. there is some more contemplation on inasa’s enthusiasm around children and also todoroki and then his brain makes on small step for mankind but one giant leap for todoroki and goes ‘wait.’ he spends roughly the next 20 minutes blinking rapidly at the framed silver age all might poster he’s got hanging on his office wall because he can be a bit of a petty bitch like that. there is a further amount of blinking that happens over the next 48 hours.

halfway through his next breakfast with momo he puts down his natto and says ‘kaminari is a bit of a flirt, right?’ which prompts some blinking from momo as well. she puts down her natto as well. 

‘i suppose?’ she says. ‘i would characterize it more as spirited affability, though.’ 

todoroki considers this briefly and nods. that is a fair assessment. ‘how did you know that the.....spirited affability aimed at you was different from the spirited affability aimed at the rest of the world?’ 

momo blinks at him again. ‘he told me.’ she says. ‘and kyouka.’ she smiles. ‘he knows us quite well, after all. he knew we needed the help.’

todoroki returns her smile because he is happy for her happiness but then he frowns because that doesn’t exactly help him. 

‘........has someone been aiming.......spirited affability at you as well?’ momo asks, catching on.

todoroki nods. ‘i came to the realization a few days ago that over the course of our acquaintance yoarashi inasa has been......particularly spirited in his affability towards me. i’m struggling to figure out what that means.’ 

momo smiles. ‘what would you like it to mean?’ 

todoroki frowns more deeply. ‘i’m not sure,’ he admits, ‘but i suppose the amount of thought i’ve put towards means i would like it to mean something.’ 

momo nods. ‘perhaps you should ask, then. in my experience direct communication is crucial to the success of any relationship.’ 

todoroki nods and smiles. ‘perhaps i shall.’ he says. 

‘would you like me to ask denki for his thoughts?’ momo asks. ‘he is admittedly better at this than i am.’ 

todoroki considers this. ‘i think i would prefer to ask him myself, if i decide i need the help, if that’s alright.’ 

'of course,’ momo says and they go back to their natto and their silence and their good vibes.

bakugou attends therapy. bakugou attends a yoga session. bakugou takes up jazz drumming. bakugou calls his mom. bakugou buys a birthday present for eri. each step of the way he thinks to himself ‘time to show these assholes how it’s motherfucking DONE!!’ then he thinks on the 45 minutes his therapist spent explaining the trap of external validation like he was some kind of idiot who hadn’t read up on this shit before starting therapy. he’s a model fucking therapy patient. he’s rocking this shit. he considers that again. he acknowledges briefly that she may have had some kind of point. bakugou goes to band practice and fucking obliterates each and every count in. John Bonham fucking wishes he could count off as good as bakugou does.

momo comes home for another band practice to find that kaminari, who is not my self-insert but who is in this moment embodying my spirit, has locked bakugou in the quirk-killing space momo has been experimentally building, and has been playing Learnalilgivinanlovin at him on repeat for the past few hours. ‘yeah he’s like a million times better than he was when we first met, but he was just telling me about how he’s going to win the yoga session his therapist suggested he go to, so like, i think he could do with some reinforcement of the concept.’

‘todoroki may come to you for advice at some point soon,’ momo says. ‘if he does be nice. if he doesn’t, don’t push it.’

kaminari grins that big grin of his. ‘you know me, yaomomo, i’m always nice!’

momo says nothing.

kaminari’s grin falters. ‘aren’t i? momo? momo, i’m nice person! momo!!’

momo smiles. ‘you are. that’s what i love about you.’ and leaves him blushing in her wake.

jirou, on the other hand, is holed up with tokoyami in her Music Room, introducing him to the Great Hits of early 2000s goth rock. tokoyami looks pretty rapturous as some guy dissolves into feathers on screen. he asks her for the tabs. she hands them over as if she had been expecting this. momo’s sure she had. it’s what she loves about her. she leaves them to it.

the birthday party happens. aizawa looks like he’s aged about 15 years but the food is delivered and it is delicious. eri shyly asks him if he’ll do her hair once more ‘for old time’s sake’. he smiles and those 15 years return to him. eri’s hair looks great. 

the band comes out. eri is surprised and thrilled. she asks if she can sit on mirio’s shoulders again like she did the first time. mirio looks like he’s about to vibrate into the sun with joy and says yes, of course.

the band is a hit. everyone dances, including toshinori, who is dragged into some kind of jive by ashido and he rocks it. and then has to immediately sit down for 20 minutes. but it’s good, it’s fine, he’s happy. eri’s happy. mirio’s happy. midoriya fucking cries into his plate of birthday cake he’s so happy. 

todoroki drags inasa off to the side at some point to ask him about the thing. momo was correct, of course, and he resolves to tell her this at their next breakfast he thinks as he too smiles happily and dances (awkwardly. with inasa. it’s great.)

it’s a friday night, but crime never sleeps, so a number of them have to get home to sleep so they can work in the morning. the rest remain to help clean up because ‘that’s what heroes do!!’ and as mirio picks up garbage, he looks over to where eri and kirishima are sorting things into recyclable and non-recyclable trash, laughing together at whatever story kirishima is telling, and mirio’s done it, he’s a professional hero, he saves people every day, but this right here is the most heroic he’s ever felt.

28: Who is your top? Uhh, you asking what I think you asking? eyeemoji.jpg. So, of my established harem, Endeavor is by far the most likely to top as well as the one who’d enjoy it the most. Overall, I think the others would be down to try and they’d do things at their own pace but by and large, I think Flame Daddy would get off on it more than anyone else. Mirio is the only one who may not be down to give it a shot but he might surprise us!

29: Who is your bottom? This is a question that I, a certified uppity submissive, cannot properly answer. I have yet to seen anyone in this series who I’d be willing to top for the benefit of, as was the case with Ichimatsu. Maybe my answer will change in the future though!

30: Who would you like to take a bath/shower with? Everyone. This is a two part answer. First, I’d very much like to bathe with Endeavor. u.u Imagine with me, being in an open air bath, and going through the ritual of washing him from head to toe, taking extra care with each individual body party to show him just how invested in worshiping him I am. Then we switch, and in stark contrast to my careful washing, he treats my body like his personal plaything before abso-fucking-lutely rawing my brains out. Phew. Part two of my answer is Dabi. A nice, intimate shower in which we can explore each others body’s - me more so than him - and I just think it would be really nice to be with him in such a ... vulnerable situation. He doesn’t appear to shy away from showing off his burns (or whatever the fuck they are) but to have them all out on full display to a woman who conceivably could run away screaming in terror but doesn’t is something else altogether. What would he say? What would he do? Ooh, so many fun ideas!

31: Best kid? From an unbiased standpoint, I’d probably have to go with Uraraka. She really is a good kid who just wants to take care of her parents and make some friends along the way. I really can’t fault her for a goddamn thing.

32: Who has the most beautiful eyes? The men of the Todoroki family - Dabi preemptively included in that statement. Who gave them the fucking right?

33: Fave Villain? Right now its Toga. She’s cute. She’s deadly. She’s in love. I want her to succeed with every fiber of my being.

34: Best Female Teacher? Considering how limited my choices are, Midnight.

35: Best Male Teacher? Aizawa because even though he’s forever tired and completely done with everyone’s shit, he still goes out of his way to care for not only his own students but apparently every kid he runs into. Just because he’s a pro hero doesn’t mean that he was at all obligated to become Eri’s guardian so the fact he took that upon himself says a lot to me. 

36: Fave Pro-Hero that is not teaching? Endeavor. Seriously, fuck all of you haters. He worked damn hard to reach the number one spot and just because his methods weren’t always correct, it doesn’t automatically negate all of the good he’s done in-universe. 

37: Best mom? Probably Jiro’s mom, Mika. From what I remember of her brief appearance in the manga, she seemed like a pretty solid parent. 

38: Best dad? Dadzawa for the reasons described in 35. 

39: Worst dad? First of all, I don’t appreciate this biased as fuck list and I think its really telling that there isn’t a ‘worst mom’ question. Second, I’ll personally fight each and every person who has an issue with Endeavor so this question can honestly eat my ass. 

40: Who’s your daddy/mommy? Big Flame Daddy, Endeavor! Unf. I also not so ironically call Fat Gum vore daddy so go ahead and put me on your list of problematic bloggers right now.

41: Who’s your father and mother figure? I don’t usually look for platonic mother/father figures but if I had to pick someone to be my dad, it would probably be Aizawa. He’s a good dad, guys. Let the man parent in peace.

42: Fave BNHA quote? “My two most hated phrases are ‘hard work’ and -” wait, shit. Wrong fandom, thats Jojo. 

43: Best female fashion/costume? I think Uraraka’s costume is really cute, especially the big poofy boots.

44: Best male fashion/costume? I’m gonna’ have to go with the newly introduced Hawks for having the least offensive and most generally aesthetically pleasing outfit that barely even passes as a costume from the looks of it. 

45: Worst fashion/costume? All of them. Aoyama for sure and Best Jeanist deserves a mention too. Honestly, there are aspects of almost all the costumes I would change for one reason or another. Like, in my opinion, Bakugou has got to lose the hair accessories and Ojiro doesn’t even have a costume. Its a regular old gi you’d wear in a training hall with a gadget belt to really bring the whole thing together. I’ve got my fingers crossed they get to tweak their costume designs in their second year because this is some shit. 

46: Who is your trash? Uh, you mean all the characters I stan?

47: Ship that you would go down with? Fuck a ship, I’ll go down with Bakugou and Endeavor as individual characters until I’m dead in the ground.

48: BNHA AU? My favorite is the AU where people manage to set aside their personal feelings and look at characters like Endeavor with an impartially critical eye and base their judgement of said character based on that alone instead of their initial knee jerk reaction that essentially boils down to THIS ACTION IS BAD SO THE PERSON IS INHERENTLY BAD TOO.  

49: Weird hairdo? Present Mic’s hair is awful. Fight me.

50: Hangout with in real life? I want to absolutely destroy a 24-hour buffet with Fat Gum and then bang in the parking lot afterward.

My Hero Academia Chapter 184 Review

It’s the beginning of a new arc. I think. Actually, I don’t know what it is going to be about just yet. It’s not really the case of a slice of life chapter where it can be seen as a standalone. It’s a buildup to whatever is next in store. The chapter explored a couple of familiar faces, almost like anime advertisement, and new faces from the Japanese Hero Billboard Charts, whatever that means.

Interesting that we get to see Eri return already. We waste no time I see. Really, Eri is transferring to UA since she can’t spend her time at the hospital forever. Funny, because I was fine with that. It does elaborate that she was abandoned by her parents and the Yakuza leader is still in coma, so they might as well look after her. It is reassuring to know that she will be around, most likely slowly learn how to use her quirk properly.

Even though she is transferring there, it doesn’t mean we will see her constantly since she will be monitored by Aizawa in the empty room in the teacher’s lounge. Also, Mirio could tag along as well, so at least they will be around. Will we see her often? Plausible, though Kohei may hold up until she can use her quirk normally. Slice of life can be an ideal but he has to be pretty good at it, because he can be a hit and miss in execution. I thought it was nice of Tamaki to give some hope to Mirio that one day he will get his quirk back. Only time will tell for when he will be back in action.

The chapter shifts the setting to the dorm where 1-A students are relaxing. After reading it the second time, it’s clear that the intention of the discussion about Tokoyami centers on the reputation in which hints the key focus of the chapter. Before diving deeper to that topic, they have special guests. The Wild Wild Pussycats makes their return, only in casual clothes. The pose is still effective.

It’s a bit odd to imagine that it has been nearly 100 chapters ago that we last saw them. I blame Internship for this. It’s amusing to see Kouta has become a fanboy of Deku; perhaps a little too dedicated. Although Deku doesn’t have an official merchandise, Kouta wanted to replicate him with matching shoes. It could have been worse. Good to know that Deku has a fan. It’s also good that Ragdoll is going back to work, but as an office lady. It’s the least she can do since quirkless and such.

All for One makes a cameo by mentions. Basically, the heroes want to investigate him to uncover the quirks he has taken and such. It’s probably for the sake of extracting everyone’s quirk out of him, but he’s provoking them to be released in order to do so. Of course, that would be suicidal, so that option is a huge no. I would guess he will be free when Shigaraki is ready to inherit as the successor.

It’s not a real issue, but it is odd how the Pussycats and All for One made a return on-panel here during in which the anime has finished the training camp and soon to cover Hideout Raid Arc. It comes off like an anime advertisement, which is probably why there’s no real progress to be shown for All for One. Unless the idea is him breaking free already. Feels too soon though. It’s no secret that mangaka tends to insert a reference based on the current event. It could be a huge coincidence, but regardless, it’s fine to bring the group back for status update anyway. It’s appropriate fit for them to engage the main focus of the chapter: popularity poll.

Before you say, “Whatever happened to world building,” we are introduced to a ranking system called The Japanese Hero Billboard Charts. Supposedly, it’s based on an active hero’s contributions, meaning how helpful they are, crimes they resolved, and even public approval, which could factor to popularity. The system tally up the numbers and then rank them for every twice a year.

The concept isn’t bad, but wonder why is it necessary. It comes off more of a popularity poll for heroes or an excuse to have another thing to aim for Deku and others. It’s almost like it has to have all Shounen tropes in one. Now, it can be thoughtful and necessary if it is written to establish the flaw behind it, so I can’t be so judgmental yet. I know it was briefly mentioned, but it didn’t have built behind it, so it’s like a poor man hype of Reverie from One Piece.

It’s also can be seen as an excuse to showcase the top ten heroes and I’m fine with that. Ryukyu is ranked number 10. Honestly, I felt like her line about not living up to the hype, paraphrasing here, shows self-awareness. Yoroimusha the armored hero is next; looks like a wise old man. Number 8 is someone I would like to see more just for good laugh because it’s Wash, the washing hero. He’s basically a laundry machine. I want his backstory.

Kamui is ranked 7. I wonder if we will get to see him in action like in an arc. Too bad for Mt. Lady to ranked lower than him. Despite her last action, she had to deal with karma. Crust the shield hero is next; looks like he has sheer respect for All Might like a fan. I’m only guessing by his tear and line. Number 5 is the rabbit hero, Miruko, who seems to think solo is the way to victory. Edgeshot is next and he’s a ninja. I do like the design though.

Interestingly, Best Jeanist is at number 3 despite having no quirk. At least we can’t treat this like power level, at least I hope so. Number 2 is the winged hero, Hawks. Tokoyami was interning with him, so it’s no wonder the popularity discussion happened in the first place. Lastly, the number 1 hero is Endeavor, now sporting a new costume. He’s no longer a place holder; he’s the real deal. The question is how can he maintain the prestige. We’ll see how long he can last.

Overall, it was a decent chapter. I like the aftermath with Eri transferring to UA, which means her time to use her quirk in good hand is in slow progress. It’s good to see the old characters back with an update, including Deku garnered a new fan. The art is pretty decent, mainly on the introduction portion. While it’s difficult to care about the ranking system due to lack of grounds, at least it’s neat to see new heroes. I can’t exactly make it out of them outside of their design and one line, but in due time, we’ll get a better view. After last time, I have a bit difficulty to get excited for new heroes. I hope whatever this new arc heads to, it will revert back to excitement.
