How do historians view Eustace Chapuys' description of Anne Boleyn? It is said that most people think he is exaggerating?Researchers at Anne Boleyn seem to have significant differences… The biographies of Mary I seem to fully agree with his records
I'd actually push back on the latter claim. Academic biographies > pop history biographies tend to give Chapuys, at best, a 'perhaps' re: his claims about Anne as a stepmother, at the least...
For example:
"Perhaps at Anne Boleyn's instigation, but certainly with the King's active support, Mary was several times pressured to acknowledge the illegality of her mother's second marriage, her own illegitimacy and the precedence now due to her infant sister."
(realize this is technically not an excerpt from a Mary I biography, but Judith M. Richards' on Mary I basically states the same, that at most Lady Shelton was there to "keep a particularly close eye" on Mary...and even that instruction, she attributes to Thomas Cromwell, not 'Queen Anne')
"For an illegitimate royal offspring, Mary enjoyed a level of household status that was generous and indicative of Henry's personal affection for her. Although her household was little more than a glorified Privy Chamber staff whose first loyalty was to the king, the fact that she had a Privy Chamber staff at all was indicative that she still enjoyed high status. Her household existed through the king's generosity, but that was fully consistent with her status as his natural daughter—something the king's chief minister, Thomas Cromwell, was at pains to point out to Henry's critics. She was not, as Eustace Chapuys claimed at times, a servant in Elizabeth's household. She is not listed as part of the Privy Chamber staff of Elizabeth's household. Rather, Mary's household formed one half of a combined establishment funded by the crown. [...] this source must be treated with caution, as Chapuys habitually exaggerated the plight of Catherine and Mary probably in order to convince the Emperor to take stronger measures against Henry on their behalf."
#anon#i think it's great that tudor primary sources- by and large- are so widely accessible#however...not everyone has the training to properly assess them#and most don't have the humility to recognize that consulting expert opinion is...well...how to best form one's own?#and that's really it. the perhaps vs certainly#as is the judgement of jeri l mcintosh is well#we have henry's letters and council notes on this matter#several. and all we have is one of anne's#and the letter we have of hers is hardly damning...it actually (and at what seemed to be the height of her triumph#and the surety of her position)#advises her aunt to relent and leave her alone#she calls her her enemy but she also says that she had only wanted to warn her of the consequences which would result from her defiance#which is...i mean...also. something that mary's own supporters did#(obviously anne was not among them and obviously she had different motivations and vested interests in doing so#but what i'm driving at is that how it's viewed depends on perspective#and reconstruction. we don't know what we don't know .#mary actually enjoyed a fairly warm relationship with lady shelton after anne's execution#maybe mary really was the most understanding and forgiving person on earth#...or...maybe their relationship prior to that was more complex and not as driven by bullying as chapuys portrayed#we have circumstantial evidence like that which is suggestive of many possible narratives; not necessarily just one)

just tbc, the reason we can know Team Phone (captained by nat) was not coordinating with Team Kill (captained by mari) is bc Team Phone also had misty as a key participant and one of mari's most consistent traits is zero tolerance for misty quigley. she's gone back and forth on almost everyone else but was always firmly anti-misty. she had already rejected her the previous ep after seeing her first meet with "Team Crazy". van could be willing to work with misty on nat's say-so alone (and is herself something of a Team Crazy defector) but mari would take more to trust misty. nat knows misty can't betray her bc it would mean mutually assured destruction with her knowing what misty did to the black box, but mari would want to know what the secret nat had on misty was to understand its power and telling her would defeat the purpose of keeping it secret while the nature of the revelation would only make mari hate misty more and possibly distract her with anger over what misty did.
meanwhile, i think it should be more clear nat was not in on mari and co.'s plan with her reaction to the dead animals and confusion when mari, her newfound ally, said they hadn't spilled enough blood bc the others were all "enemies", but the reason i know she couldn't have been brought into the murder conspiracy after that is bc nat wouldn't have wanted to murder any teammates even if she arguably had the most cause to strike back against shauna. natalie, who still felt guilt for the death of her abusive pos father who totally had it coming, who was shattered by killing coach ben at his own request, and who looked uncomfortable after hitting misty just once cared more about ending the bloodshed and getting everybody back home, shauna included, than she would about revenge against shauna. she certainly wouldn't have wanted lottie and taissa killed too, tho i'm not even convinced gen was meant to do more than distract tai and seperate her from shauna. (on her own, how much of a threat is she? she's never had the influence of lottie or intimidation factor of shauna, and her only time in a leadership position was the failed hike which nearly got van eaten by a wolf. plus, i assume they're all still cool with van so unsure they'd want to hurt her that way.) if the hunt somehow ended in mari escaping but shauna and/or lottie dead on nat's behalf to make her leader again, she would probably feel not too unlike lottie did when she learned javi had been killed and cooked in her name.
oh, but speaking of lottie, did she not start conditioning them wrt shauna when she let shauna beat the ever living shit outta her, to the point she almost died, and commanded everyone else to stand aside? they all just had to stand there and witness it, and boy did that learned helplessness stick, while the beating didn't even take away shauna's rage. tragically it's natalie, already product of an abusive home life, who has to stand up to shauna the most, who looked most like she wanted to interfere in shauna's postpartum beatdown of lottie and tried to talk to her when she pointed a gun at melissa. others may have agreed with her, but in the moment of each shauna outburst, they could never be sure who would support them if one more spoke up. better just to stay out of shauna's way, not draw her attention to yourself instead, vote how she wants when she yells about it. mari never voted against ben but she still could only show her support of natalie's mercy killing by whispering in halting code while others were distracted. no wonder they were too divided and distrusting, could only unite in small groups with differing personal goals, not letting any secret agreements spread too far to someone they were unsure of. no wonder they thought they needed the anonymity of masks and frenzy of a hunt to attack shauna.
#yellowjackets#yellowjackets meta#yj meta#natalie scatorccio#misty quigley#mari yellowjackets#shauna shipman#lottie matthews#(c)lsb#it's been a week since the finale now so this is the last i'll say abt all this#the hunt for mari did serve as a distraction for nat's escape but she did not know she (and her plan) was only a decoy that time#i have plenty of complaints abt the adult sl but someone thinks all were equally united against shauna and wanted her dead#(someone even said tai and lottie werent on shauna's side!) then youre misunderstanding what happened and what wld be ic or ooc

Caught In A Janitors Closet
Rose was fully invested in this. Lila was talking about her dating life, and her boyfriend never ceased to amaze. She was yet to reveal the name, but Rose didn’t expect her to. Lila had only been talking about this mystery guy for a day, and she claimed it wasn’t anything serious yet. Rose did not want to pressure her into disclosing the name. “And then, after he took me to that picnic, he asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend! It was so romantic!” Lila gushed, eyes sparkling. It seems that Alya, however, did not share Rose’s sentiment. “Come on girl! Tell us who this mystery guy is!” Alya insisted. “No Alya.” Lila said, but Rose did notice her little smirk, but shrugged it off as a grimace. “Oh come on! Is it someone we know?” Alya asked, and took the surprise that flitted across Lila’s face as a yes. “Is it someone in our class?” Once again, Alya took Lila’s (clearly faked) blush as confirmation. She crossed out the obvious people (Nino, Nathaniel, Ivan) then she looked around. Then she saw him. “Is it Adrien?”
Rose was shocked. How could Alya so openly discuss it? However, if Lila was upset, she didn’t show it. To her surprise, Lila even nodded shyly, looking down at the table. Adrien was talking to Marinette. Rose was surprised as Adrien openly showed his support for Mari, the one who was bullying Lila in the first place. It seems, however, Lila had an explanation ready. “I know Marinette is bullying me, but Adrien is just being polite. Apparently Mari had been- I really shouldn’t say.” Lila said, eyes dropping. “It’s fine! You can tell us!” Mylene said encouragingly. “Adrien told me that Marinette is very clingy and possessive, like they’re dating.” Lila said. She then leaned into the table and whispered “I think she might even be sexually harassing him.” Everyone gasped. Alya gaped and scoffed. “Well let’s tell her you’re dating Adrien then! In fact, maybe she’ll finally get over her jealousy and stop bullying you!” Alya said, standing to walk to the pair. Lila’s eyes widened. “Actually, I was really hoping you won’t. I just don’t want to make Mari anymore jealous than she already is. You know how she can be.” Lila simpered and everyone nodded in agreement. But Rose just could not shake off the feeling that something was wrong.
Meanwhile, Adrien and Marinette were having a ball. Their real friends, from Miss Mendeleiv’s class, were fun, easy-going and never pushy and judgy like the akuma class. Soon, however, Adrien and Marinette got lost in their own conversation. They excused themselves, and walked towards the lockers to get their stuff for biology. “No Adrien, for the last time, I will not drop the croissants!” Marinette sighed, recalling last week’s clumsiness, or “sin” as deemed by Adrien. “I’m just making sure.” Adrien pouted, and Marinette placed a soft kiss on his lips. She meant to pull away, but Adrien didn’t want to stop. He pulled her into a supply closet and pushed her against the wall, pressing hard into the kiss. Marinette wrapped her legs around his waist, hand reaching up to mess with his hair. But something interrupted them. Or rather someone, because Rose Lavillant just busted through the door.
To say Rose was surprised was an understatement. She had just been going to get a mop because of the soup she just spilled, and was met with a rather shocked Adrienette. However the worst part was that she wasn’t alone. Everyone in Miss Bustier’s class wanted to come, because they had art next and that was always a mess, and the teacher made the students clean them up. This means that the entirety of the Akuma class saw Adrien kiss Marinette. Which also means that Adrien was…“HOW COULD YOU!” Alya screeched at Adrien, who suddenly looked very unimpressed. “How could I-what?” he asked, rather smugly in fake innocence, which only infuriated Alya more. “How dare you cheat on poor Lila with that insolent piece of trash!” Alya spat as the two of them climbed out of the supply cupboard. No-one noticed Lila go pale.
Now Adrien was smirking, his Chesire grin throwing them off. “I would never cheat on my girlfriend,” he said calmly. Alya begged to differ. “YOU JUST DID!” she yelled, and if the school had any competent teachers, this would be shut down immediately. However, we are in Francois Dupont College, so no-one came to stop this. “Wrong. I was kissing my girlfriend.” Adrien objecting, his grin only widening as Alya became purple with rage. “What do you mean? You were kissing Ma-” she broke off, realization dawning on her face. “Lila, you were lying?” she whispered, and before Lila could turn this on the head, Alya whipped out her phone to Google Lila’s claims. The class did the same, and everything came crashing down on them. “You LIED!” Alix yelled, and everyone went into a cacophony of chaos and bombarded Lila.
The next morning Lila was expelled from school, and lawsuits were filed against her. Same with Alya. The class also got their fair share of punishment, though not as severe. When Mari and Adrien came in the next morning, they were met with many apologies. Marinette accepted most of them; after all, they hadn’t done anything worse than a few arguments, and that was under the influence of a liar. However, when Alya came, she was prepared. “Listen girl, I’m so sorry! I should never have believed Lila! She lied about having connections with the people you know. In fact maybe you can let me interview them and then you can tell me all about it!” she gushed, but was met with a stone cold glare. “I cannot believe that you are still using me. I do not forgive you, and I probably never will.” Marinette said. “But we are besties!” she cried. Sighing, Marinette said quietly…
“We were besties.”

Everytime something happens in France in a comic, I realize how little researches comics writers do. And like, if they are this bad with my western country, how bad it is with third-world countries they talk about???
In Nightwing (2016), Raptor is from a circus that was near Paris during Mary Grayson's childhood, so more than 40 years ago at least.
In this flashback, they accuse the mayor of Paris of having given leprosy to the romani and of keeping away the meds they need. Already, with our healthcare's system, it's hardly possible, as they would be able to go to a hospital to get the help they need. Do they think "public healthcare" means the state has a direct control on medication, because that's not the case at all. The French gov control the money put into medication, how much is bought, but a mayor has no power over this. I just don't understand how something like this could happen. You can totally write a racist medical scandal in France, but makes it make sense with our system.
But also, Paris didn't have a mayor until 1977, so if it's before 1977, impossible. And, Paris' mayor from 1977 to 1995 is JACQUES CHIRAC, who was the PRESIDENT after. They wrote a story implying that a French President kept medications away from sick people, was discovered and was still elected President. And, yes, the French government is far from good and they have deeply harmed the romani, but like, maybe don't write shit like that. (Also, Chirac was really against the war of Iraq, and stood up against the US, which France is still paying the price for to this day. So I don't really like an USAmerican to criticize Chirac. Like, we can do it, others can do it, but not USAmericans, y'all have done enough) I'm pretty sure that wasn't the goal of the writers. No, what happen is that they didn't do researches about Paris' mayor and so, wrote that shit.
This may be inspired by the contaminated blood's scandal in the 80s-90s, which was worst in France, but no mayor was found guilty, it was doctors who knowingly contaminated patients with a deadly illness. And the French government was held accountable, even if they had no hand in it, as a matter of principle.
I understand it's a fiction, and they didn't literally wrote "Chirac did this", but it's kind of clumsy. (Especially because of everything I wrote earlier about Chirac's politics and how the US is still punishing France for being against killing civilians and destroying Iraq. France was doing the right thing, and the US worked so France would go back in line and treat Arabs like shit. Do not think western countries are free from the US' imperialism)
And in no way I'm saying that you cannot write France being awful, I know my gov's crimes (rn, they have deported homeless out of Paris for the Olympics, the President is refusing to acknowledge the left won the elections and to take a leftist prime minister so we have no prime minister since mid July and fuck democracy I guess, they support Israel's crimes against humanity, and are behaving like the colonizers that they are in New-Caledonia, sending the armies against the Kanaks that have not enough power on their own land), I'm just saying it should at least be believable enough to work. (Easiest way: make the cops racist. Boom. Also, French cops talk like vilains, it's insane.) And also, not about someone touchy like clumsily painting badly a president that was punished by the US for doing the right thing.
#batman#Nightwing#dick grayson#dc comics#there are other example but this one killed me#it's so funny but I also know that some french politicians would lose their marbles if they read it#I have so much to say about this flashback like pls#the romani living in wooden caravans? lol no pls what in the orientalism is this?#my ramblings#But also Bruce Wayne really? At least kill Bernard Arnault Raptor! Or Sarkozy the French President that is a criminal and went to court#Or Bruno Le Maire#Or the director of Lafarge they literally worked with terrorists#in Red Hood and Arsenal Jason using guns in Paris is also unbelievable to me it would not fly at all#in Red Robin Tim stops robbers who stole from a luxurious jewelry store and killed 3 people#and like robbers nearly ever kill in France because wtf would you make the cops go after you and risk murder charges#when you can get away with stealing goods more easily#also the people don't care when a luxurious store get robbed we go “good for them” so everyone disliked that tim#this is not a “first time?” kind of things btw I have a long list of usamericans handling France badly

Connections 15
Chapter 15
this is based on @thepeacetea daminette soulmate au
Master List *** First *** Previous
Look who hasn’t fallen off the face of the planet. I found this recently in my drafts and decided to edit and post it. And it gave me some new inspiration to continue this story. So let’s see how it will go this time. -Felix😅
~~~~~~~~~~
Under the cover of darkness, close to midnight, did Mari leave to meet Wonder Woman.
When Marinette arrived at the Justice League headquarters in France she was met with not one, not two, but three Amazonians.
"Queen Hippolyta, it’s wonderful to see you once again." She greeted.
"As well as you, little bug." Came the Queen‘s response.
Marinette de-transformed and then they started the conversation.
They discussed how they would proceed with the miraculous threat and how to retrieve all the miraculous without causing irreparable harm. Because the thought is that whoever this Hawkmoth is, he was no chosen of a Kwamii. Meaning there will be consequences, and even though his actions are not ones they condone or support. That doesn’t mean they are cruel enough to let this person be harmed by their own stupidity.
Yes the miraculous give blessings to their holders, but only if they are the right holder, with the right jewel. As each time a miraculous is used, the holder quite literally channels the kwamii's power. The more compatible, to the kwamii, a.k.a. a true chosen, the person is able to use the powers of the miraculous safer and easier.
Which is why they also had to find this guardian to see about taking back the miraculous of the cat.
Which brings us to the reason why there’s three Amazonian‘s currently in front of her in Europe.
Wonder Woman, because yes she is Marinette's teacher of sorts within the Justice League.
Queen Hippolyta, for being a past ladybug, and also because it would be wise to seek out the Guardian.
And finally Artemis who was tasked with finding the guardian to discuss how this threat will be eliminated.
After a bit a back-and-forth Diana decided that she would have to head back, and so did Hippolyta. Artemis had decided to start the search halfway through the conversation and had left.
Now that she was alone, she knew there was another person she needed to meet with. So she re-transformed and checked her yo-yo.
Luckily there he was transformed and roaming the city. With a quick text of directions, she was off. It took less than 10 minutes to arrive, there he was already.
Before she said a word, with a practiced motion, she drew one of her escrima sticks. And proceeded to draw a spell glyph in the air. Resulting in a protective box inside the bell story.
"Thank you for coming Chat Noir."
"Is there something you need to discuss?"
"Yeah… there is." She took a breath to steady herself.
"Are you planning on sharing our identities?" He wiggled his eyebrows, she assumes.
"No I wasn't." She saw him deflate. "Did you receive your miraculous from the guardian?" She started to question.
"Yeah… " He seemed to think but almost like he wasn’t sure, figures, seeing that he was rubbing the back of his neck.
"You don’t actually know." It wasn’t a question but a statement.
"Sorry." He shook his head.
"No it’s fine. Artemis can find him and Hippolyta will know what to do." She hung her head and whispered to herself ever so slightly.
"Was that all you wanted?" He stepped towards her but she stepped back.
She shook her head in response. "Did your kwamii... did Plagg tell you..."
"How the black cat and ladybug are soulmates meaning you and I are Soulmates. Oh what do you think our soul mark is. I haven't noticed anything different have you?" He spoke without taking a breath, waiting for her answer.
"Sorry, but you aren't my cat." She shook her head.
"What?!"
"You and I aren't soulmates." She stepped forward, taking his hands in hers. The certainty in her voice caused him to freeze.
"Does this mean I'm not a hero." His voice and ears dropped, his head bowed sadly.
"No." Her voice was steady, no hesitation in her voice or posture. "You are a hero. Your actions so far prove that."
"But I'm not your cat."
"No, but you are a chosen."
"How could you know that for sure?"
He looked at her sadly as if he didn’t believe a single thing. A small small part of her understood that whatever he was feeling was because of something in his personal life made it so.
That the love and attention he got was conditional. It broke Mari's heart but also she understood. She remembers before Papa, Uncle B, her brothers, before Damian, the love she received in Paris was conditional. She also knew Damian would understand because of the League's similar conditions.
She had to shake her head before she could spiral. "I know you are. Because, your soul resonates to the miraculous. It just isn't that of the black cat. But..."
"LB. you should give this to your soulmate." He didn't let her argue, he dropped the transformation. "You are Ladybug and I am not your cat."
He took off the ring, grabbed her hand and placed the ring into her palm. "I’m sorry for wasting everyone’s time."
There in front of her stood a blond-haired boy, his eyes closed, with a sad, defeated look on his face, and a sag in his shoulders.
"You didn’t." She grabbed the blonde haired boy’s wrist. Marinette was going to drop her transformation, but call it intuition or maybe this was cosmic interference, she decided against it. "Please, keep the ring until my cat can take your role. But you have helped so much, please continue being a hero."
"You're just saying that. You don’t know me." He mumbled barely audible. If it wasn't for her enhanced senses and close proximity, she would have missed it.
"Hey kid." Mari heard a new voice drawl. "Adrien."
The boy looked up and noticed the black kwamii floating in front between the two of them.
"Plagg?" The boy, Adrien, questioned.
"You might not have been my kitten, but you are a hero. And I've seen my fair share of them." Plagg responded as a matter of fact.
"Adrien." She repeated the name, drawing his attention. "Plagg is right. Heroes are more than just being chosen by a miraculous, artifact, or powers. It's what they choose to do with that power. You have a heart of a hero, so please don’t lose faith so easily."
She took the ring that was placed in her hand, grabbed his wrist, and pushed the ring of the black cat in his palm. "Fight with me for the time being."
---
"I..." She didn't let him answer. She turned and swing away from the tower.
"Are you putting the ring back on or what kid?" Plagg's voice snapped him from his racing mind.
"Yeah." He re-transformed and went home. The next morning he was resolved to go to school. Natalie and Gorilla caught him at the gate, but let him go in.
He made his way to the homeroom. When he stepped in every one went quiet, before he was tackled by Chloe.
"Adrikins!" She clung to his neck as he tried to regain his balance. "There's an open seat here in front of me!"
She led him to a front desk. "Thanks, Clo."
Was all he could say before the blonde next to him shouted. "What are you doing in my seat!?"
"The only thing needed for the triumph of evil, is for good people to do nothing." A be-speckled girl sitting behind him sat resolved.
"Get..." Chloe started but was cut off.
"Here-Here," A girl with blue hair, dyed at the ends responded, causing the entire classroom to watch her. But she didn't look up from her tablet.
"You're supposed to be on my side, Mer!" She stomped.
"And outburst like this is why everyone thinks you're a brat, Goldie."
"I have high standards." Chloe argued back.
"And you can still have them in the empty row up front." The girl pointed forward without looking up.
"I hate when you use that logic." Chloe grumbled but moved seats.
Adrien couldn't believe it. Someone could actually reign in Chloe.
"Hi, name's Nino." The boy sharing his bench introduced himself, snapping him out of his trance.
"Adrien." He greeted.
"I have to ask are you really friends with Chloe?" Nino asked.
"She's my only friend." He shrugged.
"Well now you have two." Nino pointed to himself.
"I'd like that." Adrien smiled.
"So you don't know Marinette?" Nino brought up.
"Who?"
Nino pointed at the bluenette in the back who was still absorbed in the tablet. "She's apparently also Chloe's childhood friend."
"Really?" Adrien didn't recognize her.
"Apparently she just came back to Paris." Nino informed. "She seems nice enough, she's just blunt. We all don't know her well though."
"I heard she moved because of bullying?" A brown haired girl behind him piped in.
"Really gurl." The be-speckled girl popped in. "Your in the know Lila, spill."
The two girls behind him started talking, but his attention was on the girl sitting in the back of the class.
The whole day he tried to talk to her, but someone kept him from doing so. Be it Nino unknowingly, Chloe demanding his attention, or her disappearing.
Then he saw her.
They were the last two in the school. It was almost like his luck started to turn. She was standing by the entrance, just before stepping out in the rain. She was on the phone. It took him a moment to realize she wasn't speaking French, but english.
So he quickly hid behind a trash can while in earshot.
"I know I should've..." He doesn't think she noticed him.
'...' The other person must've said something, as she pursed her lips.
"That would've crushed them!"
'...'
"I know... but."
'...'
'sigh.' "Why don't we talk later." She breathed. "The walls have ears after all." She looked directly at him.
She knew he was there, did she know the whole time.
"No need, I'm already here." A boy with black hair came running in the rain.
"You're soaked!" She hit him with her umbrella.
"Sorry." Adrien looked down and opened his own umbrella. "I didn't mean to eavesdrop." He held out the umbrella to the boy.
He hesitated before taking it.
Thunder clapped.
Adrien ran out to the waiting car.
He might not have talked to her, he might not have made the best impression, but he hopes that it's a start. He smiled down at his hands. Barely catching a glimpse of the golden ink that was sinking back into his skin.
•••
Meanwhile...
"What were you thinking!" She slapped her best friend's arm.
"That you were sounding frazzled, Mars."
"I totally was not!" She smiled, finally taking a breath from the whirlwind that was the past 48 hours. Between the newly discovered miraculous threat, jumping between Paris and Jump City, and getting bombarded with calls from her "brothers". She hadn't had time to process everything.
"So lets do something." The two of them walked down the street.
"There's a cool little cafe a few blocks from here." She pointed down the road. So they started in that direction.
I only watched the Phantom Blood anime so idk if the manga adds more info, but by watching it we can deduce that DIO's mom wasn't like Giorno's, since one of his main reproach to Dario was that he drove his mother to death, and the flashback to remind us he was awful that fueled Dio's anger in episode 2 of Phantom Blood was him wanting to sell DIO's mom's clothes (bonus point : Diego's mom truly loved her son, which on its own could mean nothing, but I wouldn't be surprised if both counterpart were similar in that way). We also know she was a good person, because she was worried about the Joestars in the carriage accident.
All of that to say : DIO was loved as a kid. And DIO loved as a kid, because he wouldn't bother talking so much about his mom in regard to his hate of Dario if he didn't love her too.
And she died.
And, to me, the moment where we were truly shown that Dio rejected his humanity wasn't when he put on the stone mask, but when he made this mother eat her own child.
Now, does that mean anything ? I don't know.
All I know is that Jonathan studied the stone mask because it made him feel closer to his mom.
All I know is that Joseph was so angry at anything that could hurt his grandma, was taught hamon by his mom and had to save her after Kars cheated when he fought her.
All I know is that Jotaro went on to kill DIO because DIO was hurting his mom.
All I know is that Josuke transformed someone that didn't deserve it into a book because he dared menace his mom.
All I know is that Jolyne, who rejected all of her Joestar lineage, was still called Jojo by her mom.
All I know is that Gappy was ready to sacrifice everything for his mom.
All I know is that Jodio still did everything for his mom to have a pleasant life.
As you can see, Giorno and Johnny are missing in this "hey moms are important in JoJo" rant. (Also little disclaimer I was too lazy to write the whole plot of the second part of Jojolion for the Gappy one (so you only got "was ready to sacrifice everything) and I only read up to chapter 12 of the Jojolands (Charming Man) so that's based on the info I got here)
For Johnny I'd say it's because Steel Ball Run is very focused on fathers (check out Johnny, Gyro and Valentine's flashbacks if you don't believe me) and because Nicholas is kinda fulfilling that role too; I often think Nick is similar to Mary Joestar in the way that their death mark the beginning of the bizarre adventure of the Joestar family of their respective universes. And Johnny needed to be completely alone without support and having his mom die too with it being important would've been pretty repetitive. I would've liked to have a little more info on his mom tho.
For Giorno, you already know why. And you probably don't need me to remind how Miss Shiobana was bad and her neglectful behavior.
However I do find it interesting how it's THE big difference (minus the time period) between Giorno and DIO's childhood. And how Giorno, who was never loved, based his entire life of the first person that showed him the slightest of care (we love Unnamed Gangstar), and was lucky enough this dude wasn't an asshole. Because if he was, Giorno would have been too.
Also the Bruno mom headcanon people have low key makes sense with the whole thing, which is hilarious.
Anyway, I forgot where I wanted to go with this, so I'll post it now and go back and reblog if I want to add something.
what do you think would be marlene's standing with the black family? like what she think of walburga, orion, and regulus and what they think of her?
god what a hard question!
i think she struggles with them.
i tend to think of marlene as a pureblood witch to put her in contrast with lily (muggle born) and mary (half-blood), so while her family is obviously not on the same level as the blacks, she knows a lot of them much like the rest of society.
during school and even before they get closer, she starts picking up on the subtle ways sirius tense up or slightly flinch when someone brings up his family. whenever she can she change the subject. she also imagines he struggles at times with the way he was brought up and the way gryffindors behave. she has a brother in ravenclaw and that puts sirius at ease in a way when it comes to him being the outcast of his own family, not all is lost and it might no be that big a deal for his parents.
also marlene was in school at the same time his older cousins were and even at a distance she could tell they were a force to be reckoned with. marlene has only brothers so, aside from her mother, it’s such a sight to know powerful young witches. and this translates to walburga as well. sirius turns out to be so annoyingly good at everything and without even trying that she wonders where all that natural talent comes from. they obviously care enough in some regards to making him comfortable and well educated so his talent won’t go to waste. but believe they’re misguided though, cause their trying too hard to turn him into something he’s not and things might’ve turned up differently if they acknowledged that from the beginning. but it’s a scary thought to think of sirius as, possibly, a DE or a supporter of voldemort in some capacity.
marls doesn’t share the black family beliefs and neither does sirius, but that doesn’t change the fact that, even if you stripped them down from it, they are still a powerful family. she also hates the way more traditional families put the wizards above the witches which is hard to reconcile when she thinks of walburga, a big blood supremacist, having the same power as a man. it hard to reconcile someone with opposite beliefs to your own being in some capacity able to effect change, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to just cause they happen to be women, right?
i don’t think she ever gets introduced to them, but if she did, she would probably confront walburga. she’d tell her she’s just jealous because his son might turn up to be whoever he wants to be, an option she either didn’t have or didn’t felt she had. she’s also scared, because he’s a man, he’s the heir, and he’s smart and powerful enough to change the trajectory of his entire family if he wishes, something she couldn’t have done even if she had wanted to.
she would think orion to be spineless for trying to dim his own son light, a son who only ever tried to make him proud despite everything. if he doesn’t want to see how special he is, it’s his lose. and no, buying him expensive stuff doesn’t compensate for any psychological abuse he might’ve done to sirius.
as to where walburga and orion stand on her is, well… they think sirius picking her might be a good sign. orion is not that impressed because he knows sirius to be much like walburga and while she change her ways and eventually fall in line with the family, he also knows sirius might turn up and do the complete opposite. so no girl it’s gonna get in the way of that.
but walburga is impressed in a small way. regulus is the one feeding her information on her (which i find funny), and marls comes across, to her, as an unapologetic witch. she is who she is and wont make concessions to make other people like her more. much like her. but she thinks she’s misguided. she could be exactly the right girl to straighten up his son, even if she isn’t , say, a greengrass, but more likely than not, she’ll be his ruin (in her eyes). also she’s blonde and i hc walburga loathing the malfoys and by association anything that reminds her of them even in the slightest way. it would be a curse for the next black heir to be blonde.
about regulus marls thinks he’s young and naive. she sees the way sirius gaze follows him around in school, specially when he starts hanging around mulciber and that sort of crowd. regulus naively thinks maybe marls would be the one the bring his brother back to him and his family, which is why he talks walburga about it.
she’s not surprised they finally disowned him. she is, however, taken aback by alphard leaving him his money. again there’s that struggle that somewhere in the family there’s actually care and concern about sirius, but they’re are too caught up in their own prejudices and stupid beliefs to be able to show up properly for their son/nephew and in someway that might be reciprocated by sirius, even if he don’t want to. you could also say that his prejudices to blood supremacist steams from his relationship with his family and it’s the reason he can’t look pass it when he thinks of them, even if he related to them as family and smart and talented humans in the first place.
during war times she’s concern how the family dynamics would translate in battle. again, she knows bellatrix to be powerfull and she knows sirius to be reckless, he becomes even more so after regulus death, which he keeps downplaying and telling her it didn’t affected him (showing that he cared, at the very least, for his brother, if not the rest of them).
all in all, she’s constantly torn between her desire for sirius to have a loving and supportive family and the implications of it and the way he turn up to be such a loyal and talented defender of what’s right despite them pushing him otherwise.
in the end, marlene knows the only way for sirius to thrive it’s to cut them out completely and is grateful for the existence of james potter, and eventually lily and harry too. while she loves her family and could never properly grasp how sirius felt towards his, she’s so glad he gets to experiment some resemble of family dynamics with his best friends.
theres a bit during a draft of 13.04 where the empty says "you died for nothing" and castiel says "i didn't die for nothing" and the empty says "you didn't die for sam and dean" and that's always been a cut line that stuck out to me because... explicitly in the draft of "all along the watchtower" he Did... die for sam and dean, like he got lucifer's attention so they could go through the portal and was stabbed in the back. in the actual episode it's Slightly more ambiguous but.
This is indeed an interesting line from The Empty!
15x12 via @spnscripthunt-inactive
Dying for a Mission:
As a specter of depression, I think the Empty exposes deeper issues for Cas, particularly his relationship with Cause.
Like Henry Winchester, Cas throws himself into work. At his best, he’s an idealist, believing in a hopeful future and a worthy cause. At his worst, he falls into a pattern of hopeful nihilism, the darkest side of Faith.
This internal struggle with purpose/meaning hurts, but as a character, it's Cas's bread and butter. The Empty’s words are a dark reflection of those fears.
I'd talked before about how Cas feels like he NEEDS a cause to be "allowed" to care, to JUSTIFY his staying on Earth to live with his human family. I think that Jack, at this point in the story, is a manifestation of that need.
It’s uncomfortable because Jack is a new cause, and Cas supports this new cause as a way of running adjacent to what he really wants for his human family—freedom for Sam, peace and relief for Dean:
&
12x19 via @spnscripthunt-inactive
Jack becomes a symbol of the fight because Cas feels that his deeper, personal desires for his human family are out of reach—and, more importantly, that he’s not strong enough to get them there.
Initially, this need to invest in Jack stems from: “If I’m going to love something, its importance must be elevated,” and “If I’m going to stay here and bask in all this love, there needs to be a reason to do so.”
It’s not just about the love itself, but about needing that love to have purpose in order to feel justified.
Over time, though, I do think Cas comes to truly love Jack for who he is. But ti doesn't change for me the fact that this love starts from a place of needing a reason—a cause. It’s an indirect way for Cas to hold on to his purpose while grappling with the limits of his own (often failing) strength.
///
Much ado about "nothing:"
That cut line also plays with Jack's NAME in a fascinating way.
Jack's name itself embodies both everything—"jackpot"—and nothing—"you've got Jack." This specter of nothingness looms over the back half of the series, tying directly into Jack himself.
At this moment, Cas's technically dying to protect "jack," which is another word for nothing. It's a linguistic wordplay that shows up again and again.
I think a little bit of Henry Winchester who, despite his loyalty to work, had remorse and eventually realized that John was in fact EVERYTHING to him. That his family was everything:
HENRY: Everything. I'm his father.
I think too of Rowena in Funeralia:
13x19 via @spnscripthunt-inactive
///
As for Sam and Dean, I don't know if I'd say that Cas died for Sam and Dean in this case. In my mind, it's more the other way around.
Dean, Sam, and Mary have to raced to help CAS out. They're putting their lives on the line for Cas's new cause (and Kelly and Jack by-proxy):
&
///
The problem with immortality
And finally, there’s the undercurrent of Cas's immortality. Dying for his family might be a comfort to him because "dying of natural causes" isn't a really an option for Cas. And it's too painful to be without them.
The idea of living without them is something he's been struggling with for a while, probably ever since Dean died at the end of season 9. (SEE: "I just want to be an angel.") And then, after losing Dean again at the end of season 11, he was barely holding himself together for the rest of the family (Sam).
But compounding losses, as he learned in mid-season 12, cut much deeper.
It was when he lost BOTH Sam and Dean that he went into a paralyzing depression spiral (12x09 First Blood).
So, another element of the attractiveness of Jack as the new cause is the idea of having a family member who could outlive him... It probably soothed something vulnerable inside his heart. Alas...
14x08 via @spnscripthunt-inactive
///
Cas echoes this idea of compounding loss again in season 15 with Jody, warning that if Claire lost both Kaia and Jody, she wouldn’t survive it.
CAS: I'd like to ask you to stay, as well. [...] If something goes wrong with this rescue, and… and Kaia isn’t saved… Claire will be devastated, but she’ll survive. She already has. But if she loses you both… JODY: That’d kill her.
15x12 Galaxy Brain
///
Jack too will struggle with this in Ouroboros:
JACK: I-I can't think about losing him or -- or Sam or you. I-I just -- I hate -- I hate thinking about it. CAS: ...they're human, and they're very extraordinary, brave, special humans, but they're -- they're still humans. And humans burn bright, but for a very brief time compared to, you know, things like us. And eventually, they're gone, even the very best ones, and we have to carry on. It's just -- It's part of growing up. [...] JACK: Losing people? [...] What's the point of being a cosmic being if everyone I care about is just gonna leave? [...] That sounds... awful. [...]
CAS: It is. But it's also living. So when Dean wakes up -- and he will wake up -- we just have to remember to appreciate the time that we all have together now.
14x14
It's so crunchy to me taht Cas is telling Jack about the reality of the differences in their lifespans, all while insisting that Dean WILL wake up. It's a beautiful bit of sleight of hand.
Cas's head knows the loss is coming. His heart doesn't.
Do you think Lottie was in on the plan to distract Shauna? Hence how she knew Akilah killed her own goats?
i don't think she was in on the plan to distract shauna, no.
i think i'm annoying everyone with how critical i've been of the finale, and there are some areas that i've warmed up to a bit, but this one in particular... i really am unsatisfied with how all of that was shot because it's not clear (and i don't even think intentionally so) what the hell was going on between all the parties involved and what their motivations were... there's a lot of reading between the lines you have to do that makes it a frustrating finale imo. and it's still uncertain. wahhhh!
like, so it seems like van knows about the transponder since she and misty are discussing the phone or whatever the fuck it's called. which means... van and nat and misty are working together? which means... van hasn't told tai that they're working together? and then beyond that, the akilah pregame with gen, mari, and melissa means that JV is working together. it seems possible (though i don't like it) that they're ALL working together in the way that nat hedges when akilah says "why would it let this happen?" and nat goes "maybe it wants us to leave" -- i suppose she could have said this on her own, but??? maybe a stretch.
scenario 1: nat/misty/van are doing their own thing and simply taking advantage of the hunt as it happens but don't know about JV pregaming. mari/gen/melissa/akilah are trying to pull off a hunt on their own because their goal is to kill shauna?
scenario 2: they're all in on it together and coordinating a joint effort to get natalie to the mountain. this is quite frustrating to me because it means we have to assume that only nat knows about the transponder (or also van??) and what misty did, but we're not given the due diligence of a scene that adequately conveys that dynamics... it would have to be the case because why the fuck would anybody besides those two (pushing it) work with misty if they knew. i find it completely ridiculous that gen, mari, melissa, and akilah wouldn't be so put out as to not make a functional plan if they knew misty had fucked them like that. so aghhh?
the induced hunt: it seems that lottie knows from the getgo that akilah killed the animals ("it must have hurt you to do that")... we could read it as her only thinking that akilah did it to complete the vision or we could read it as her having intuition that something is afoot. i think it's more interesting to consider the second because it cements lottie in this non-interventionist space that i really like her in. she's the sheepdog herding the girls toward "it" but she doesn't have the fucking bandwidth to be micromanaging everyone's fucking drama lmaooo. whatever happens will happen... it's just interesting to consider the way she almost lets herself be played into suggesting the hunt.
so i think my preferred read of that messy slew of events is... misty/van/nat were working together. melissa/gen/mari/akilah were working separately for the hunt and vying to potentially kill shauna (mari's "you deserve everything that's coming to you" is a death threat). their interests happened to converge, which got nat on the mountain. (i really don't think nat was aware of JV's plan because i don't think she would support killing shauna, actually. i definitely don't think she would support killing the animals on the slim chance she made contact with the outside world.)
lottie knew someone was tampering with the hunt, but i think she perceives the hunt as the girls' ultimate expression of "it," so i think she gives a lot of leeway in what happens. i don't think she's exactly invested in mari dying but instead seeing all the choices they make & letting it all play out because to her, anything they do--even if they fucking cheat (like travnat in season 2)--is still a reflection of "it." so my personal read is she let herself get played because she was shruggsie about the how and why of it and was more interested in seeing how the hunt went.
THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more … November 21
1694 – Voltaire, French philosopher, born (d.1778); born François-Marie Arouet, better known by the nom de plume Voltaire, was a French Enlightenment writer, essayist, deist and philosopher known for his wit, philosophical sport, and defense of civil liberties, including freedom of religion and the right to a fair trial. He was an outspoken supporter of social reform despite strict censorship laws and harsh penalties for those who broke them. A satirical polemicist, he frequently made use of his works to criticize Christian dogma and the French institutions of his day.
The name "Voltaire," which he adopted in 1718 not only as a pen name but also in daily use, is an anagram of the Latinized spelling of his surname "Arouet" and the initial letters of the sobriquet "le jeune" ("the younger"): AROVET Le ieune. The name also echoes in reversed order the syllables of a familial château in the Poitou region: "Airvault".
In terms of religious texts, Voltaire was largely of the opinion that the Bible was: 1) an outdated legal and/or moral reference, 2) by and large a metaphor, but one that perhaps taught some good lessons, and 3) a work of Man, not a divine gift. These beliefs did not hinder his religious practice (It is a line from one of his poems that translates "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him.") though it did gain him somewhat of a bad reputation in the Catholic Church. He is best known today for his novel, Candide.
Voltaire blew hot and cold on the subject of homosexuality. Although he is known to have sampled the delights of same-sex love on one occasion, he nonetheless admonished a friend who wanted to try it a second time, "Once, a philosopher," he proclaimed, "twice, a sodomite!"
He was locked in a love-hate relationship with Frederick the Great, with whom he spent agonizing, ecstatic years. In her biography of Voltaire, Nancy Mitford writes that "nobody who studies the life of Voltaire can doubt that he had homosexual tendencies, and one wonders whether his feelings for the king were not exacerbated by unrequited passion."
Whatever his personal reservations about homosexuality, the famous French writer was forthright in declaring that sodomy, "when not accompanied by violence, should not fall under the sway of criminal law, for it does not violate the rights of any man." We will never know why Voltaire once signed a letter to a male friend, "E vi baccio il catzo," which, politely translated means, "I kiss your rod."
1915 – James Gleeson (d.2008) was one of Australia's foremost artists. He was also a poet, critic, writer and curator. He played a significant role in the Australian art scene, including serving on the board of the National Gallery of Australia.
Gleeson's themes generally delved into the subconscious using literary, mythological or religious subject matter. He was particularly interested in Jung's archetypes of the collective unconscious.
During the 1950s and '60s he moved to a more symbolic perspective, notions of human perfectibility. At this time he increasingly fashioned small psychedelic compositions made using the surrealist technique of decalcomania in the background, to suggest a landscape, and finished by adding a fastidiously painted male nude in the foreground.
"Totems in Arcadia"
Many of his paintings had homoerotic undertones, something which reflected on Gleeson's own homosexuality. The ideas for these compositions also saw Gleeson move into collage with his Locus Solus series, where he produced a substantial body of work by placing dismembered photographs, magazine illustrations, diagrams and lines of visionary poetry against abstract pools of ink.
Since the 1970s Gleeson generally made large scale paintings in keeping with the surrealist Inscape genre. The works outwardly resemble rocky seascapes, although in detail the coastline's geological features are found to be made of giant molluscs and threatening crustaceans. In keeping with the Freudian principles of surrealism these grotesque, nightmarish compositions symbolise the inner workings of the human mind. Called 'Psychoscapes' by the artist. Gleeson's later works incorporate the human form less and less in its entirety, represented in his landscapes by suggestions, an arm, a hand or merely an eye.
Gleeson died in Sydney on 20 October 2008, aged 92, one year after his life partner Frank O'Keefe.
1940 – Keith Prentice (d.1992) was a Dayton, Ohio-born American TV, film and stage actor, whose most famous role was the part of Larry in both the original stage and film versions of The Boys in the Band. Prentice also appeared on the classic TV soap Dark Shadows during the series' final months in 1971. Until just several years ago, his picture was displayed on the Tasters Choice coffee label.
Prentice studied in New York City at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His stage musical credits include Sail Away, The Sound of Music, Paint Your Wagon, and The King and I. In 1968, he appeared off-Broadway in the non-musical The Boys in the Band, a then controversial play featuring gay characters at a dramatic birthday party - the Summer before the Stonewall gay civil rights riots. He also appeared in the movie version of the play. In 1971 Keith joined the cast of Dark Shadows playing Morgan Collins. Prentice also appeared as Nils Fowler in the 1972 film The Legend of Nigger Charley and had a small role in the 1980 film Cruising which, like Boys in the Band, was directed by William Friedkin.
In 1982 Keith Prentice co-founded Kettering Theatre Under The Stars, and directed summer shows there until the year of his death. He died of AIDS-related cancer on September 27, 1992 in Kettering, Ohio.
1947 – Nickolas Grace is a British actor known for his roles on television, including Anthony Blanche in the acclaimed ITV adaptation of Brideshead Revisited and the Sheriff of Nottingham in the 1980s series Robin of Sherwood. Grace also played Dorien Green's husband Marcus in the 1990's British comedy series Birds of a Feather.
Although Grace had a small uncredited part in The City of the Dead (1960), his first known work in feature films as an adult came with Bruges-La-Morte (1978) directed by Ronald Chase. After this, Grace secured the part of the flamboyant aesthete Anthony Blanche in Brideshead Revisited which filmed off and on from 1979 to 1981.
Following the success of Brideshead Revisited on television , Grace played Richard II at the Young Vic in 1981, and Mozart in Amadeus with Frank Finlay at Her Majesty's Theatre in 1982. He then began working in operetta, playing Koko in The Mikado and Joseph Porter in HMS Pinafore for Sadler's Wells Opera in repertoire from 1982-1986. The film Heat and Dust appeared in 1983. It was around this time that took the role of Robert de Rainault, the Sheriff of Nottingham, in ITV's Robin of Sherwood.
In the "official biography" of the actor Alan Bates, Otherwise Engaged, by Donald Spoto, Spoto quotes Grace describing his "intense affair" with Bates, who was "terrified of exposure": "I told him labels didn't matter, but that we must be who we are. But he just could not accept that. Alan was at ease as long as he pretended - and he insisted on pretending - that our relationship was not what it was, and was not disclosed to or evident to others."
Bates, who was then 39 and married, and Nickolas, who was 25, became in the latter's words "very close and very loving, in an intense affair that was one of the most important relationships of my life".
As he had with previous male lovers, Bates denied to Nickolas that he was truly homosexual. If they travelled by car together, "he made me lie down in the back - he didn't want me to be seen with him. That was an indication of the fear that he had".
When the inevitable split with Nickolas came, it was brutal. "It's been very nice to have known you," Alan told him with astonishing coolness one day, "and I'm sure I'll see you around in London." He spoke as if they had been polite colleagues on a project, or fellow travellers on a train journey. It took Nickolas months to recover.
1963 – The playwright, director and founder of Tectonic Theater Project, Moisés Kaufman, was born on this date. He is the author of Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, 33 Variations and is perhaps best known for writing The Laramie Project with other members of Tectonic Theater Project. He was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to New York City in 1987. He made his Broadway directing debut in the 2004 production of I Am My Own Wife by Doug Wright, for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Direction of a Play. Mr. Kaufman is a Guggenheim Fellow.
Kaufman is of Romanian and Ukrainian Jewish descent. He described himself in an interview as "I am Venezuelan, I am Jewish, I am gay, I live in New York. I am the sum of all my cultures. I couldn't write anything that didn't incorporate all that I am."
1981 – Sergeant Charles Cochrane, a 14 year veteran of the NYPD, created shock waves by testifying before a New York City Council hearing in favor of a gay rights bill. Following on the testimony of a Patrolmen's Benevolent Association Vice President who denounced the bill, and declared he didn't know of any homosexual police officers, Cochrane stunned those present by announcing, "I am very proud of being a New York City Police Officer, and I am equally proud of being gay."
Cochrane's public testimony lent significantly toward the official formation of the Gay Officers Action League, Inc., aka G.O.A.L. - NY, which became the first official police fraternal society in the world to represent LGBT professionals within the criminal justice system. Since that time, similar organizations for LGBT Law Enforcement Officers, Criminal Justice professionals as well as Firefighters and EMS personnel have been established around the world.
1983 – Blake McGrath is a Canadian professional dancer, pop singer and choreographer. He was known for being on the first season of So You Think You Can Dance in 2005, and on the MTV reality dance show, DanceLife. He has also developed a solo singing career with a debut album Time to Move in 2010.
McGrath was born in Mississauga, Ontario.
2006 – Israel's Supreme Count recognizes international same-sex marriages.
Today's Gay Wisdom:
Quotes from Voltaire:
A witty saying proves nothing.
All murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.
Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices.
Anything that is too stupid to be spoken is sung.
Behind every successful man stands a surprised mother-in-law.
Better is the enemy of good.
Common sense is not so common.
Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her: but once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game.
Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do.
dorcas' relationship with every friend she's had:
pandora- best friends. each other's closest person before marlene/xenophilius came along. understand each other on a deep level and tell each other everything. hang out a lot outside school, which is also a little hard with my hc of pandora being from republic of ireland and dorcas from northern ireland (but i assume there would be a floo system or something in place). dorcas was luna's godparent (well, for about 5 months)
regulus- best friends (neither would ever admit that to each other). they mostly sit in silence whilst doing their own thing. the introverts ever. very different people with very different backgrounds and experiences and social views but they bond over hating talking to people and quidditch and books and studying hard
evan- they bond over being two of the only slytherins that smoke weed and also trying to talk to regulus and getting shut down. they're more friend by association than anything (even being regulus' roommate and dorcas becoming friends with regulus). evan is the least tight with his money, so dorcas gets free stuff from him a lot
barty- also become friends by association (but more through pandora). they fall out every other week then barty tells his mum and his mum makes him apologise to cas everytime. colours their hair together (although barty dyes his back before the holidays). both their love languages are mocking/being mean to their crush
lily- bond over school work (the other slytherins in dorcas' year don't like her and lily and remus are the only gryffindors willing to work with her in class). study together a lot. bond over their rivals to lovers relationships and hate for the english (scottish lily <3). they also snog sometimes for fun. so so so competitive. also both football fans which they bond over even though they support different teams
mary- become friends only once dorcas and marlene start dating (but dorcas did know mary by going to mary to get their hair done- hc that mary would do cut/style other student's hair for money). mary gives them 'the talk' and then they get drunk and bitch about marlene to each other. very different people with very different hobbies but they still manage to connect.
(The Freelancers are just there and OK, don’t worry about it, everybody is alive and friends in this scenario, it’s fine)
-Florida makes everybody Uncomfortable... plus, he and Sarge start this REALLY awkward flirt-fight thing, where maybe they’re dating Romeo/Juliet/forbidden-love-style, maybe they also wanna stab each other, maybe both (this is the equivalent of two single dads that get together, and it embarrasses the heck of the kids “Gross! Old people love”)
-Florida also keeps halfway flirting with Church (like maybe not, but also kinda yes) in his very specific creepy way, and Church is just like “Uh... no thank you???”, and then Sarge calls him a home-wrecker
-York vibes with Grif, and keeps helping him rig snack machines to spill free goodies. Also, he intentionally sets-up Donut to say all kinds of innuendos. York totally encourages the bad puns and double-entendres (if it makes everybody else groan, that means he won)
-Flowers and Donut are a whole SPECTACLE for the others to hear
-South and Kai become this unstoppable FORCE OF CHAOS, and their bros are over there begging them to be normal for 5 minutes
-South also gets along with Donut, she likes that he knows all the drama, and he likes how mean-funny she is
-North and York both LOVE being overly-supportive of Wash, he’ll be doing something normal like getting a bowl of cereal or whatever, and they’ll be cheering “Look at our boy gooooo!” etc like embarrassing parents at a soccer game
-Wash loves hanging out with the Triplets again, and people start calling them the Quartet
-Everybody gave Wyoming the silent treatment for almost 2 whole months, which drove him crazy
-When they finally acknowledged his existence, he started having all kinds of arguments with Sarge (it is a nightmare to listen to them; Sarge is a yee-haw and Wyoming is like the evil-version of Bert from Mary Poppins)
-Other people keep taking the “Grifshot” and hiding it somewhere Maine can find find it, and he ALWAYS gives it back to Grif... who is like a timid little bunny rabbit in that situation
-Maine will also just stand around and watch Tucker do stuff. Tucker feels like this is some kind of INTIMIDATION act, but Maine literally just thinks Tucker is cool
-Lopez was initially indifferent to all these extra morons he has to hang out with, but Connie actually pays attention to him and is the only one who knows how to chill, so they get along really well
-People were surprised that Tucker wasn’t immediately flirting with the new girls, but he honestly assumed that South and Connie were a couple and he was trying to be a good ally-bro (they start playing it up, and... maybe they ARE a couple???)
-He DID try to hit on Ohio, which everybody thought was hilarious
-Kai is less subtle; who’s single and what are you into?
-Iowa for some reason decided Simmons is the coolest dude and always wants to know what he’s doing and help with projects (he messes things up a lot, but Simmons enjoys the attention)
-Idaho is a naturally good helper for Doc, they both like assisting with bandages and what-not, and they’re both “list-makers” (they make categories and lists for everything, from important supplies, to favorite movies). Idaho also is a great friend to O’Malley; whenever he speaks up, Idaho instantly plays up the role of “evil assistant” and goes along with the bit (they don’t do anything actually “bad”, they just like. sneak all the ice cream and them blame it on somebody else)
-Grif and Simmons get really into playing word-games with the Triplets, they have endless conversations about nonsense
-Carolina had to try REALLY hard to convince them “No seriously guys, I can relax now!”
-Tex, Carolina, and Church have their own weird little dysfunctional-family thing going on; whenever they get snippy with each other, he tries to be the peace-maker, and it ticks them both off. If they ignore him for too long, he starts bothering them until they finally crack to yell at him (and that means success). Sometimes Carolina and Tex will whisper to each other while glancing at Church and giggling, so he KNOWS they’re talking about HIM, but when he asks they just go “Nothing~”. Carolina is a total enabler when it comes to Church mouthing-off to somebody (she just encourages him to rant more). Tex will throw Church over he shoulder like a sack of potatoes sometimes and just walk away with him. He likes it
-Tex just kind of decided that Locus is going to be her friend, and while he doesn’t understand why she even likes him, he enjoys her company (still thinks he doesn’t “deserve friendship”, but he’s getting better). They like going to events like motorcycle races together
-Whenever Caboose asks a question, North takes the time to explain stuff to him (so does York, but York doesn’t know what the fudge he’s talking about and just makes stuff up. not in a mean-lying-way, he’s just a dink)
-Iowa and Caboose will wander off to look at rocks or whatever, but also just have a whole ADVENTURE (they might have accidentally gone to Narnia at one point)
-Kai and York are united in a “f*ck the law” attitude, and will engage in some “creative vandalism” from time to time (they wreck advertisements all over the place)
-Doc and Maine hung out together for several days before even discussing stuff about O’Malley and the Meta... nobody is entirely sure what was said (which is fine if they want to keep it private), and this seems to have resulted in Doc having absolutely NO fear of Maine (even when other people still get intimidated), and Maine has all these inside-jokes with O’Malley
-Sarge called dibs on Maine, South, and York. He truly feels like they are integral to some kind of grand scheme that makes no sense to anybody else. Maine is fine with it, he likes the Reds. South immediately jumps on the SUCK IT BLUES band-wagon (because guess which side her bro got absorbed into). York hams it up, like woe is me, I am on the opposing side of a feud from my dear friends, knowing full well this does not matter
-Locus is one of the few people who kinda just has default respect for Flowers? It seems as if he genuinely doesn’t notice how weird Flowers is (he does, Locus just likes the way this messes with everybody else). Meanwhile, Flowers is at least nice enough to avoid giving Locus “orders”, and instead invite him to join activities like baking or knitting/crochet
-South scares Simmons to death, she’s everything that terrified him about Carolina times a thousand, but she loves listening to him when he snaps and gets all uppity
-Tex and Connie have their own chill moments together, kind of reconnecting their friendship, and sharing stuff they have in common (they like similar books and what-not)
-North started having a whole control-trip, not intentionally trying to be a jerk exactly, but he doesn’t know how to NOT be the one who takes care of everybody else, and if nobody listens to him, he kinda has a panic attack and becomes insufferable... as a result, Tucker gets into arguments with North, kind of a LOT. They don’t “hate” each other or anything, but North makes a lot of incorrect assumptions about how immature Tucker acts (not fully realizing how capable and clever Tucker can be), so Tucker feels the need to one-up North and take him down a notch. Tucker finally made North see there are different ways to care for people. They eventually are on better terms, and can jokingly argue without it being a whole thing, because North genuinely respects Tucker
-When Maine seems to be getting especially “isolated”, it’s actually Locus who knows how to gently approach him and pull the guy into a different train of thought (both having once felt like they were “just weapons”, and learning how to be people again). Maine returns the favor, but with a different method; when Locus is in a self-destructive and depressed mood, Maine will just pick him up, then go pick up somebody else, like Wash or Caboose or whoever might be right for the moment, and they have a Friendship Adventure (which usually involves watching cartoons)
-Kai gets all the ladies together for a PARTY NIGHT! Sometimes it’s just them staying in, eating their favorite food and watching TV, sometimes it’s going to a club for dancing, sometimes they have an entire action movie adventure that results in a show-down with some bad guys at an abandoned amusement park. You know, fun stuff
-Connie and Wash like going out for friend lunches together, they enjoy a lot of the same kinds of food. They also both dress like dads on vacation to the beach, and will complete the fun with bowling
-York doesn’t get totally DRUNK like he used to, but he’ll get a bit buzzed occasionally, and while he’s up for hanging out with anybody, his favorite person to be around like that is Lopez. The robot might sound “stoic”, but he’s clearly amused by loopy York... who speaks Spanish, and catches all the funny comments Lopez makes (Lopez will also help steer York when they walk around so he doesn’t trip and fall)
-Church personally gives Wyoming a reality-check whenever the guy gets too full of himself, and it’s weirdly not with his usual explosive fury of swears; it will be very quiet and kind of chilling. Wyoming is genuinely unnerved, and tries in vain to win Church over with compliments (Simmons calls him a loser and a suck-up). Doc joins in, being a mean little smart-mouth with Church
-Ohio is the only one who isn’t afraid of Carolina’s hyper competitiveness when it comes to video games, they’re BOTH super headstrong about playing
Another character I was thinking of was SUNNY from OMORI.
I will mention a plethora of OMORI spoilers
As a result of experiencing an insanely traumatic event at a younger age, he formed an imaginary "headspace" and forgot almost everything about what happened, pretending the trauma never occurred. Throughout the game, he (you) try and learn what is actually going on, what is real and what is not, and what happened during that tragic incidenr. What he went through definitely sounds like dissociative amnesia to me.
As a result of his trauma, in order to ignore it and survive, he also formed an alternative version of himself (I assume involuntarily), OMORI. Whilst OMORI is not too different from SUNNY, while SUNNY is in some way OMORI, he's also... Not? As in, near the end of the game, they face each other in a fight, so obviously there are conflicting ideals and motives going on that separates them. (and during that fight, the soundtrack called "ALTAR" is playing, directly implying that OMORI is, in fact, SUNNY'S altar.)
SUNNY actually developed/created/turned into OMORI for defense-mechanism purposes. Again, whilst they have near-identical personalities, OMORI is definitely more powerful, he's also practically allowed to do whatever he wants, in drawings he drew he's presented as some form of GOD, he stabs things/people he doesn't like with a knife,
(at one point in the game, when sunny is out in the real world, he at one point STABS HIS OLD FRIEND WITH A KITCHEN KNIFE, completely forgetting that THAT IS NOT socially acceptable behaviour outside of his headspace)
OMORI is also named after his sister's MARI's (the one he accidentally killed...) piano brand. (Ok, actually, design-wise he was named after the term "hikikomori"meaning severe social isolation, but I'm speaking lore-wise). One could assume it is because he sometimes felt as if she played more attention to the piano than him? Or cared more about perfecting her practice for the play than his growing anxiety ...? So, as a way to cope with that as well, he would become something, or someone his sister would love the most. (His sister always loved him though, and I'm pretty sure he knew that, but heck if I know)
In the real world, once SUNNY (after years of having not been outside) goes outside, he's still, obviously, very confused, and I feel like he confuses his identity as SUNNY with his identity as OMORI. (Like with the stabbing thing I mentioned sometime earlier.)
OMORI, in many ways, wants to protect himself, and SUNNY. But he doesn't want to face the truth, that is exactly because of the aforementioned. But SUNNY needs to face the truth to carry on. And, in fact, at the end, if all goes well, SUNNY even WANTS to face the truth. But this is only after he beats OMORI, who disagrees with him, and wants him to DIE after recovering memory of the truth, of what he did to MARI. because while SUNNY may, with incredible strength and support, be capable of fighting through his struggled, OMORI can't, and doesn't view SUNNY worthy of forgiveness or living.
OMORI tried protecting him by making up an imaginary world full of his (somewhat changed) friends, MARI fully safe and guarded, and no school or parents. Which implies several things but I think I might be going on off topic.
So, depending on where he is, whether in the real world or in his own made-up one, he's either SUNNY or OMORI. But there's another thing
In the OMORI route, (the one where he simply refuses to go outside and participate in or exchange conversation or interactions with his friends), at one point, after a while of denying the truth, denying change, when he looks at the mirror, instead of seeing SUNNY (who he's supposed to see in the real world), he sees OMORI, and after that, you start playing as OMORI in the real world. Interesting to me, personally.
Another thing is that OMORI is younger than SUNNY. Permanently 12 years old (if we judge this speculation by the fact that he is noticably shorter than SUNNY). I've heard different alters may differ in age in people with DID, and that is exactly the case
In short, SUNNY might have DID because he became OMORI to survive through his trauma, definitely underwent a form of dissociative amnesia making him completely forget about the traumatic incident (among other memories) in order to protect himself (before recovering them in a deeper space in his head, the BLACK SPACE where all his suppressed emotions reside), SUNNY and OMORI are different alters because, while having similiar personalities, they have opposing/differing motives by the end, and my boy needs therapy
Sorry if I come off as snobbish or alien-like in my speech, I don't mean to indicate that type of tone while speaking, it just happens sometimes
I also apologize if I didn't explain anything properly, or forgot to mention something, or said something wrong
So do you see him as being plural / having DID / ? (I'm not sure which is the best term to use)
Rating: plural!
Hiii been a minute since I asked something. I know Mary Beth didnt timewarp (it makes me both happy and sad 😞) but if she did what would it be like (I'm very interested in how she and Jack would interact. Pls pls pls)
Okay iiiiif Mary-Beth timewarped:
Mary-Beth was murdered by a stalker following the success of her novel mere weeks after John saw her in Saint Denis. In this AU, this stalker would later be the bounty that successfully got the one-up and murdered Sadie Adler, too, who was in a recklessly blind rage trying to avenge one of the woman who had supported her following the death of her husband.
Mary-Beth was obviously traumatized by this experience, clinging onto Arthur in tears when he was there ready to pick her up. Being a well renowned author already in 1907, she was easy to locate. She originally stayed with Arthur due to him having the spare room, but despite loving the space and generally what a nice house it was she realized she couldn't handle being alone after the experience. She moved in with Hosea, Bessie, and of course, Kieran (later, Javier too).
Mary-Beth was truly had symptoms of agoraphobia, including severe monophobia. She had to be with at least one other person or she would get panicky, even if she knew others were in the house but not in the same room. Even with others, she struggled to leave the house.
But she was lucky in that being around a group was exactly what she needed. She had, privately, gone through a very similar thing when she left the gang: learning to be alone again and coping with that anxiety. Being with the VDLs was one of the only times if her life she felt safe, and being with the gang again was a balm for her soul.
Shout-out to her and Kieran just besties. Autism be damned my boy felt a debt needed to be repaid. Mary-Beth was his best friend and closest thing he had to an ally in canon era, and if she was hurting he was going to be there for her. They were joined at the hip and some of the glares Kieran would give people when Mary-Beth needed space really reminded them he was as much an outlaw as them once upon a time. Femme-nb solidarity they share clothes.
Predictably she becomes an ao3 queen, secretly writing sequels to her own novels. She also earns a tidy living writing dime-store erotica, which she reads aloud to Kieran to proofread. Hosea and Bessie both sit at the kitchen table drinking their coffee very slowly when she's proof-reading because - well she's a damn good writer.
At first Jack is a little bit intimidated because 'holy shit since when was Mary-Beth Leslie Dupont what do you mean an aunt I don't remember is the Leslie Dupont'. You meet one of your favorite authors only for them to laugh, affectionately say they haven't seen you since you were thiiiiis tall, that they remember changing your diapers, only to then enthusiastically ask to see your writing the second your pain-in-the-ass well meaning cousin drops that you write too.
After getting over a lot of his own awkwardness and other assorted issues, Jack will go to Hosea's because really all his favorite people are there. Hosea might be his papa and go-to for new book series he's obsessed with, or really anything he's reading, but he loves sneaking looks at whatever Mary-Beth's writing and sometimes very rarely sheepishly asking her to read his stuff which makes her whole face light up in the most overdramatic gasp yes of course imaginable.
He also does not know he sits there like an excited puppy waiting for her reactions and comments because she is so positive and supportive of his writing and poor boy craves validation. It could be red hot garbage and she would still give him an essay of what she loved about it before gently making corrections.
They are losers your honor Jack and Mary-Beth sitting in Hosea and Bessie's chairs respectively in the reading room parallel play style both frantically writing and teasing each other with spoilers.
Apologies if I’ve asked something similar to this before , but what do primary sources tell us on Danton’s actual role in the indulgent campaign, and specifically Vieux Cordelier? Because we hear a lot about Danton persuading Camille to make this move, but frankly, I think the direct attack on Robespierre and refusal to back down fits more with Camille’s reckless impulsivity than Danton’s more comprising and savvy (and arguably self-interested) political style. Is the idea he was behind it actually supported by evidence outside the notorious trial notes , or was that something invented (or falsely believed) by Robespierre in an attempt to portray his friend as “misled” rather than counter-revolutionary, and Danton as power hungry ?
I still have your ask from like half a year ago and am working on it, there’s just so much interesting stuff to look over (and I would be lying if I didn’t say I’ve taken massive breaks now and then :\ ). But so far, I have yet to find any hard evidence of Danton’s involvement in the Vieux Cordelier.
We have several contemporaries designating Danton as some kind of leader of a moderate faction. His friend Dominique-Joseph Garat did for example in his Memoirs of the revolution; or, an apology for my conduct, in the public employments which I have held (1795) claim that Danton had been deeply moved by the fate of the 22 girondins, to the extent it motivated him to quit politics for a month and retire to Arcis-sur-Aube. When Danton returned to Paris in November 1793, Garat argues it was with a ”conspiracy” in mind, a conspiracy which had as it goal to ”restore for the benefit of all the reign of justice and of the laws, and to extend clemency to his enemies,” and to which Desmoulins belonged:
At Arcis-sur-Aube, the aspects of nature, while it calmed the anxieties of his breath, inspired him with generous and magnanimous resolutions. In the silence of the country and of retreat, he conceived the design of a new and benevolent conspiracy. All his friends entered into it. […] The measures by which Danton proposed to ally his conspiracy into execution, were, to prepare the minds of men for such a change, by means of such papers as those of Camille Desmoulins.
In Histoire générale et impartiale des erreurs, des fautes et des crimes commis pendant la Révolution Française (1797), Desmoulins’ fellow journalist Louis Marie Prudhomme also wrote the following:
Piqued by this despotic pride, which openly reduced them to the role of subordinates, Danton, Lacroix, Camille-Desmoulins, Fabre-d'Églantine, put themselves at the head of a secret party against the emerging authority of the Committee which was their work. It was to overthrow it in public opinion that they undermined its fundamental basis, terror. Camille was charged with this moral attack, and his numbers of Le Vieux Cordelier seemed for a moment to ensure the triumph of the system of clemency.
Finally, Danton’s friend Edme-Bonaventure Courtois wrote in Notes et souvenirs de Courtois de l’Aube, député à la Convention nationale (cited in La Révolution française: revue d’histoire moderne et contemporaine (1887), that ”it was in these painful moments that [Desmoulins] put to paper (in his Vieux Cordelier) the reflections that his indignation could no longer contain, and whose acrimony Danton, through his advice, softened in many places.”
But the very first contemporary to make Danton into the leader of an ”indulgent faction” who had proofread the Vieux Cordelier would indeed appear to be Robespierre, who in his notes against the dantonists (dated to around March 1794) has written the following:
Desmoulins; even the title of this pamphlet (the Vieux Cordelier) was destined to conciliate public opinion with the leaders of this coterie who hid their projects under the name of Vieux Cordeliers, of veterans of the Revolution. Danton, in capacity of president of this Vieux Cordelier, corrected the prints of his numbers; he made changes there, by his own admission. One recognizes his influence and his hand in the writings of Philippeaux, and even in the ones of Bourdon.
This was passed on in the report based on the notes written by Saint-Just:
…What shall I say about the confession made by Danton, that he had edited the latest writings of Desmoulins and Philippeaux?
Like you say, it is however hard to say if these charges are to be treated seriously or just as a cheap way to make Danton into the ”spider in the web” (the truth evidently not being that important when it came to French revolutionaries cutting each other’s heads off). I would say Robespierre’s claim is somewhat undermined by the fact he accuses Danton of editing not just Desmoulins’ writings, but those of Philippeaux and Bourdon as well, because while he in the first case did have an opportunity to know more about the work, having himself been involved in its publication by proofreading one or two numbers (this is for example the way the movie La Terreur et la Vertu has him find out it’s Danton who has asked Camille to pick up his pen again), we don’t have anything suggesting that was the case for the latter two. If Robespierre had hard evidence of Danton’s influence over these three writings, it also seems a bit strange he doesn’t elaborate on it a bit more… Furthermore, since Saint-Just’s report was read aloud at the Convention and published in different journals we also can’t entirely rule out the possibility the people who attested to Danton as leader of a faction after the fact to some extent built their testimonies on said report, which of course would make them much weaker.
Of course, all of the things above are still just claims made by contemporaries. Looking over the things Danton and Camille are themselves confirmed to have said and done during Vieux Cordelier’s publication, it’s more foggy. For the former, we more or less only have interventions made by him at the Jacobins and Convention to go on, considering the lack of private papers left behind by him. I have not gone through all of these yet, but some sort of big revelation of Danton’s role in the ”indulgent campaign” is not something I’ve found so far. That there doesn’t exist any place where Danton openly states ”it was I who told Camille to start writing the Vieux Cordelier and I’m the puppet master behind it” is of course not exactly strange, but not very helpful for our question either… I also can’t find the question of who was really responsible for the Vieux Cordelier’s publication posed to Danton or any of the other ”indulgents” anywhere during their trial, so neither that’s of much use. More damning evidence, such as a draft of a number of the journal with Danton’s handwriting/notes on it, I have not heard anything about.
As for Camille, nowhere in the notes he wrote on Saint-Just’s report does he confirm, reject or even bring up the accusation there printed that Danton was the one truly in charge of the Vieux Cordelier, something which I suppose could be read as implying the charge was true, or that he simply ignored it. Similarily, the fact that Robespierre on December 14 is recorded to have said ”[Camille’s] energetic and easy pen can still serve [the revolution] usefully, but, more circumspect in the choice of his friends, he must break all pacts with impiety, that is to say, with the aristocracy,” and that Camille in his very last letter to his wife claims that ”I die as a victim of these jokes [in the Vieux Cordelier] and my friendship to Danton. I’m glad my assassins let me die with him and Philippeaux.” could be interpreted as evidence Danton had a considerate influence over Camille’s actions, but are still too vague to really say anything more concreate. It can be observed that in the first number of Vieux Cordelier, released December 5 1793, Desmoulins designates the session at the Jacobins just two days earlier, during which Robespierre defended Danton after he had been accused of ”moderatism” by Coupé d’Oise, as the event that caused him to return to the journalistic pen:
Victory is with us because, amid the ruins of so many colossal civic reputations, Robespierre’s in unassailed; because he lent a hand to his competitor in patriotism, our perpetual President of the “Old Cordeliers” […] I learned some things yesterday. I saw how many enemies we have. Their multitude tears me from the Hotel des Invalides and returns me to combat. I must write.
This at least clearly and quickly cements that the journal is sympathetic towards Danton. At the same time, it also implies the founding of the journal was spontanous and not part of some great scheme (though again, if it was part of a scheme, Camille would of course not say that outloud, so…)
When it comes to what historians/biographers have written, Danton (1914) by Louis Madelin claims that ”Danton saw in [Hébert] the man to be killed before everyone else. Against this wretch, he would throw Camille: “Take your pen,” he told him as soon as he returned [from Arcis-sur-Aube] “and ask for mercy!” Desmoulins, to obey him, founded the Vieux Cordelier and took Hébert by the throat.” while Jules Claretie in Camille Desmoulins and his wife; passages from the history of the Dantonists founded upon new and hitherto unpublished documents (1876) argues Camille wrote under the dictation of both Robespierre and Danton. None of them do however cite a real source for this… In the more recent Danton (1978), Norman Hampson writes that ”the question of how far Danton approved of this [”indulgent”] campaign, or even directed it from behind the scenes, merits careful examination,” and that, at least by late December 1793, ”If indulgence was the programme of a dantonist faction, Robespierre looked a better dantonist than [Danton] was,” while Hervé Leuwers in the even more recent Camille et Lucile Desmoulins: un rêve de république (2018) firmly declares that ”[Camille’s] journal is personal, he is writing on the command of neither Danton nor Robespierre, much less under their dictation, as is too often affirmed.”
I definitely don’t think Robespierre would be incapable of wanting to portray someone as just ”misled” rather than ”counter-revolutionary” if said someone was his personal friend (though why that even matters if you’re just gonna kill them anyway can be a question for another day). After all, this same phenomenon of wanting to downplay the actions (alternatively claim they are the effect of ”bad influence”) of someone liked or admired can be observed both in the attitude of Brissot towards Robespierre, Charlotte Robespierre towards her brother and the Desmoulins couple towards Robespierre, so why not the opposite way around?
Finally, out of curiosity, what ”direct attack” on Robespierre is it you’re referring to? Because Camille never attacked Robespierre personally in the Vieux Cordelier as far as I’m aware, there only exists one place in the draft of the seventh and final number where he reproaches Robespierre for going against his former anti-war campaign, that would appear to ultimately have been cut and nevertheless was never released since both Camille and his printer were arrested before it could happen. Are you talking about Camille’s legendary ”to burn is not to answer” rebuttal?
#honestly i’d say robespierre’s fingerprints are more visible on the vieux cordelier than danton’s are…#at least now 200 years after the fact#robespierre#georges danton#frev#ask#camille desmoulins#maximilien robespierre#french revolution
SPN?
1) honestly jody and donna , i know they aren’t entirely canon but both actresses support the idea and that’s good enough for me ^_^
** secondary is jack/harper i LOVE them and we deserved to see more. #letjackfuck2k24
2) rowena and jack!!!! i see their dynamic as an aunt/nephew type thing and I love (almost) every time they’re together (omitting the time jack witch-napped her to bring back Mary). I wish we got to see more of them </3
3) Sam and Amelia. usually i can handle the show’s bad moments as enjoyably bad but season 8 was paint-drying levels of boring. Amelia was a bland nothing-burger of a character and the rest of Sam’s normal guy arc did absolutely nothing for him or the season
4) hmmmmm….. not sure I have one actually 🧐
5) JACK <3 my most special boy in the entire world i love him more than anything ever Even my other special interests and fixations 😭 he’s been deeply important to me for 7 years now and probably will be for the rest of my life!! I self-ship with him and plan on getting several tattoos for him and hopefully I’ll be able to meet Alex again someday :3
6) Lucifer/Nick, hands down. Lucifer stopped being an interesting villain to me around like S7 or so honestly, and every time he got brought back it just felt like such a lazy move from the writers or a painful excuse to keep mark on the payroll
7) something that should’ve happened…very broad question for this show. Destiel should’ve happened, a better finale should’ve happened, some deleted scenes and scripts should’ve happened, Jack being covered in more blood and maybe having a longer lasting ‘villain’ arc should’ve happened …many such cases
8) something that shouldn’t have happened…again, many choices, but to save time I’ll just leave it at Nick’s entire character. besides (see #6) he straight up shouldn’t be alive. Dean shot him in the head with the Colt all the way back in S5 lmao
9) hmmmmm……i think my entire blog is full of rare (if not downright unpopular) opinions, but if I had to choose one that is Extremely rare, I’d go with this one: Dean is one of Jack’s dads. As frustrating as his initial behavior is, he does grow past it, and he puts genuine effort into being a better mentor/father figure to Jack—not only because he does care about them, but also because he literally could not forgive himself for how he acted and wanted to make up for it as much as he could.
obviously they do have a very complicated and rough relationship, but that’s literally every other relationship on this show, and it’s kind of agitating that they aren’t given the same nuance or understanding that the others get—especially when half of the discussions surrounding it can be boiled down to “bad man mean to helpless baby” (which is another thing on its own but ill stop here). I don’t mean this as an excuse or apologia for Dean’s behavior, but when you consider that he’s a severely traumatized person with a relatively small support system and a canon tendency to verbally abuse/emotionally distance himself from people as a coping mechanism (literally what he had a breakdown over in Purgatory) it’s a little easier to understand it.
everyone is quick to talk about how he said “Jack’s not family,” but nobody paid attention to the fact that in the script, he’s mildly horrified at Jack agreeing with him (if you truly meant an insult, wouldn’t you’d want the target to agree?). or that after jack restores the world from chuck’s damage, Dean not only fully expects/wants them to go back to the bunker with them (IE continue living there) but he also literally fantasizes about buying jack a big screen tv and recliners for saving the world. so id love if the fandom ixnayed on the “uncle” shit. ironically the only one of TFW to actually be Jack’s uncle is Cas, biologically
alternatively for a rare opinion: i want jack kline biblically, carnally, horrendously, homosexually, expeditiously, and so on and so forth.
