Pattern Drafting is not a glamorous part of the Fashion Design process but it being expertly done is vital. Pattern Drafting is the math of fashion. It’s actually pure beauty! In college Pattern Drafting classes were always challenging, but I was so dedicated to getting it right that I excelled. Looking back, it was in those classes that I realized I’m dyslexic. Pushing through challenges I think can give us greater understanding of a subject - I’m a learn it the hard way kinda gal anyways! Now, after over a decade of Custom Fashion Design my drafting process is fluid and welcoming of a challenge - like fitting a growing baby belly for an expedited wedding dress! #DecoDayDreamDress was a super fun challenge that started with vintage components, moved through drafting and next I’ll show some of the draping! Click link in bio to “Get On the List” for early access to Custom Fashion openings in 2022! We’ll be booking Spring 2022 soon! 📏 📐 . . . #patterndrafting #patternmaking #patterndesign #custompattern #patternmaker #patterndrafter #learningdisability #dyslexia #challenges #success #learnthwhardway #measuretwicecutonce #thisishard #fashionmath #appliedmath #howmathapplies #womeninmath #womeninscience #learning #professionalskills #customfashiondesign #fashionsesigner #weddingdressdesigner #fashionprocess #education (at Themis and Thread) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVDQ0bygCV8/?utm_medium=tumblr

In a post-Gustavo Martinez, #metoo age, we still see headlines that proclaim that advertising remains a boys’ club – to which every semi-sentient being says, “Well, no shit.” One CEO’s fall from grace is not going to change a culture that has always favored men over women. But we – the women in this industry who know…

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated on 11 February - it is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women, in collaboration with institutions and civil society partners. The Day focuses on the reality that science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. However, long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are steering girls and women away from science-related fields. According to data from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), fewer than 30% of researchers worldwide are women and approximately 30% of all female students select STEM-related fields in higher education. Globally, female students’ enrollment is particularly low in ICT (3%), natural science, mathematics and statistics (5%), and engineering, manufacturing and construction (8%). To achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/70/212 declaring 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The 2020 theme for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is 'Investment in Women and Girls in Science for Inclusive Green Growth.' EWEI strongly believes that STEM is not a boy's game neither is it a girl's game. It's everyone's game. It's about where we are and where we're going. Everyone deserves equal opportunities to change the world. @untrustfundevaw @unwomen @ixmedia_ng @sateig @unesco @babatundeajiga #womeninscienceday #womeninscience #womeninstem #womenintech #womeninmath https://www.instagram.com/p/B8ai26qgFZm/?igshid=13mz2na5xqyhl

Our very first picture book biography recommendation, and it's a doozy! Today, in honour of Women's Equality Day, I'm recommending Cheryl Bardoe's "Nothing Stopped Sophie: The Story of Unshakable Mathematician Sophie Germain" (2018), the story of the first woman to win a Grand Prize from France's Royal Academy of Sciences. 📚📙📗 Great for a slightly older audience (6+), this is the story of the inimitable Sophie, a young woman in the 18th century fascinated by numbers and all that could be done with them, and determined to use that love to accomplish great things, despite constant discouragement from everyone around her, including her own parents. Stubborn and brilliant, Sophie forged her own path despite them all. A wonderfully inspiring STEM story with a historical twist! ⚫ ⚫ ⚫ #noodlenutskidsbooks #nothingstoppedsophie #sophiegermain #cherylbardoe #barbaramcclintock #mathematician #femalemathematicians #math #numbers #womeninmath #womeninmathematics #goldenkiteaward #nationalwomensequalityday #equalrights #heroicwomen #womeninstem #stem #stemgirls #girlsinmath #breakingbarriers #smartwomen #womenbreakingbarriers #igreads #nonfiction #nonfictionforkids #readinglist #awardwinner #awardwinningchildrensbooks #mathpicturebooks #stempicturebooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B1o1xOznD-2/?igshid=13gfzcr61dtrw

Chien-Shiung Wu | The First Lady of Physics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chien-Shiung Wu was one of the most esteemed scientists of the 20th century but few have heard of her. She overcame numerous uphill battles to achieve many firsts in her lifetime. Wu was born in 1912 in Liuho, China, a time when her homeland forbade girls from going to school. After graduating from college in China, she embarked on a long steamship voyage to San Francisco where she joined Ernest…

I thought Pi Day was a perfect day to acknowledge a superstar mathematician. Maryam Mirzakhani was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. As a teenager in 1994, she won a gold medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad, becoming the first female Iranian student to do so. The following year, she was the first Iranian student to achieve a perfect score at the Olympiad and win two gold medals. After high school, she attended Sharif University of Technology in Tehran and later earned her PhD from Harvard University.         Maryam's research focuses on hyperbolic geometry, although she has expertise in abroad array of mathematical fields. Her ability to borrow techniques from different fields is part of what makes her research so brilliant and innovative. She was awarded the 2014 Fields Medal, the most prestigious honor in mathematics.  Dr. Mirzakhani is the first woman to win the prize, widely regarded as the "Nobel Prize of mathematics," since it was established in 1936. She is currently a professor at Stanford and continues to be one of the leading mathematicians in the world.  #zenfullychic #MaryamMirzakhani #ladyboss #womeninmath #womenshistorymonth #boss #shepersisted #Stanford #piday #fieldsmedal #math #ladyboss #iran #mathematics #shero #innovator (at Los Angeles, California)
