So I met someone on Saturday and they are *school girl siiigh*

It was during a Greek inspired gym party thing so I was wearing my lava rock rosary to connect me to Hephaestus

Said rosary is a rosary from Mt Vesuvius, made from lava rock found there, it has a lil heart shaped locket on it, which I really like because it's a lil connection to Aphrodite which I think is cute, and I took off the of cross and replaced it with an anvil obvs

But after meeting this incredible incredible person who makes me giggle and kick my feet n shit, I remembered not only was I wearing the heart locker lava rock rosary, but I was also wearing a grey hoodie with L'Amour across the front and it had a heart shaped cut out on the back

So now I'm like "Did I.. accidentally pray to Aphrodite alla her husband? Did I ask for a love match then got it???"

Cuz I know exactly how I got on Aphrodite's radar, my best friend is an Aphrodite worshipper and has been in their matchmaker era

My best devotional act for all the deities I work with is to stay alive and well. I promised that I would heal and move onwards. This is just how simple and joyful devotional acts are.

I am still alive in a good state and healing after depression.

something that comes up a lot in pagan spaces both online and irl I've noticed is this idea that nature/the natural world is "preferred" by the Gods, and that they aren't as likely to engage with worshippers in big cities or with modern technology.

and while it is true that nature is extremely important to the Gods, and many of us are frankly isolated from it, it has always felt off to me that people just unquestioningly accept this idea that Nature = Good and Civilization = Bad.

maybe it's because our current society is not structured in a way that allows for a reciprocal relationship with nature, or maybe it's because of some unconscious "noble savage" tropes being projected onto the polytheistic societies of the past.

regardless, when you actually look at the mythology, you find this assumption isn't true. sure, there are deities who may individually lean towards one or the other (Artemis comes to mind) - but generally speaking the Gods engaged with both the natural world and what was, for the time, modern society.

and I love the wild/nature aspects of Dionysus SO much. but to only focus on that side of him, and ignore his role in theater, viticulture and the arts (part of culture and civilization) would be both a disservice to myself and the power of the God.

and then there are Gods like Hephaestus, who may even "prefer" engaging with modern technology. people seem to forget there are like, literal robots in Greek mythology?

but my point here is that for most of the Gods, the Nature vs. Civilization thing a lot of pagans hold on to is a false dichotomy. capitalism, colonialism and the exploitation of life have made our current society unsustainable, but civilization itself isn't inherently bad.

we must respect and honor nature. but we also need to respect and honor ourselves.

i’m a lay buddhist and hellenic polytheist (bodhi-devotee! get it?) how can you be both? well, for me it means the eight fold path and dharma are my “salvation” per se, and the gods are ancient spirits i revere and draw inspiration from alongside my practice. i don’t plan on reaching enlightenment in this lifetime, hence the “lay” bit :D

i’m a devotee of Apollo and Selene, but i also worship Helios + Asclepius + Artemis! i’m still building kharis with them :)

the buddha isn’t a deity, but he has a place in all my meditations, prayers, and on all my altars <3

Dionysus, God of Wine, Vegetation, and Madness 🍷🍇🌿

I probably should have done Hephaestus next but my idea for Dionysus was clearer

Almost every Dionysus design I've seen has him with purple hair so I was like maybe I'll try green? I think it turned out nicely. It's a dark color that shines green where the light catches, vines and laurels are always sprouting from his head. You can tell this mf does NOT own a hair brush

His skin is a purplish tone because… grapes lol but also in a corpsey way? I think Dionysus' twice-born aspect and ties to the underworld are interesting so I want to lean into that.

Whenever Dionysus is around, things are certainly never dull. He's almost always in some drunken state of mania, the few times he is not is a bit disturbing to those that know him. He has many worshippers and is often found reveling in the gifts they offer. He's a bit of a weirdo, but has an undeniable charm to those around him.

But this Idea really stemmed from listening to Just A Man, Antinous's Version and sprinkling it with some Sharpwolf. (ITS ON YOUTUBE, LISTEN TO IT I BEG YOU.)

AND I HAD THIS GREAT IDEA

So, imagine a Nice!Antinous that has MASSIVE daddy issues, and when he's like, 15 he prays to Hephaestus to make him strong enough for his father to be proud of him. And Hephaestus, taking a liking to the boy, decides to craft him a necklace that whenever he experiences anger, it enhances his strength to inhuman levels.

All is great at first, his dad loves him, he's super strong and he's really popular. When he traveled to Ithaca to be one of Penelope's suitors and was rejected, he was just about to leave when the prince caught his eye.

Unfortunately, this was also around this time when things started getting out of control.

He had been walking along the shoreline when a group of young boys stole his sword. He wasn't angry, as he was chasing after them, just mildly annoyed but it felt like no time had passed when he opened his eyes and her was in the middle of burying their remains.

He never confessed.

This started happening more often, as the necklace grew a mind of its own. But he would never dare take it off, even though it was in his power to. He'd rather die than lose all the necklace has given him. Respect, power, even potentially a husband if everything goes smoothly.

But it doesn't.

After courting him for a year, when Antinous proposes, Telemachus declines.

"You're hiding something from me." Telemachus stated flatly, eyes narrowed. "I love you, dearly, but I don't want a partner who cannot be truly honest with me."

The rage that filled his heart was nothing he had ever felt before.

This time, when he awoke, almost half of Penelope's suitors were trying to hold him back. His sword was drawn, already coated in blood.

His eyes searched the room like a madman, hoping, praying Telemachus was alright.

When he finally laid eyes on him, he was covered in blood, scars littered the face Antinous adored. Clinging to his mother like a child.

And Penelope, he had never seen that look on her face before. It was truly inhuman, it makes sense why she was Queen.

She wasn't yelling, but her voice was shaking with anger, as if she wanted to rip him to pieces as the sound of her voice echoed through the dining hall as she pointed an elegant accusatory finger right at him. "Arrest him." The finality in her voice left for no debate.

Backstory: This one is a very interesting backstory lol. Long story short, my parents were devoted worshippers of the Greek gods. To show their devotion, they allowed the gods to bless me, aka their first child. So I have the blessings of the gods, like Percy Jackson type blessings, as if I were their child. They named me Apollo in honor of the first god they worked with. But that's not all 😏. They wanted me to become one of the greatest heroes. I was born with no quirk, so they gave me an advanced version of my parents quirks with some blessings of course. And that's how you get the gamer system, but the version from the web novel "Solo Leveling". I was born in Nigeria, but moved to America and did school there. I moved to Japan to do highschool at UA of course 💪🏾💪🏾. Don't know if imma actually script siblings, I already have some here 😭

Quirk: My life is mostly like a RPG player. I have quests I receive from the 12 gods themselves and some others. I can do anything a RPG player can do. The gods can open gates like in the webnovel solo leveling which the Gods open the gates to help me get stronger, with mythical greek monsters too. After my first gate, which the Gods use to test me, I get the skill shadow extraction, like from solo leveling. Anytime I defeat a monster, I can resurrect them to join my army under my command. In the original they are black and blue, but I scripted them to white and gold. The gates that the gods spawn can only be seen by me, and if I want others to see them then they could. The blessings I got from the gods show up as passive skills in my system (This whole quirk makes more sense if you read up on the main character's power).

Voice claim: Probably more higher than I sound in my other realities. I scripted something around Kenma Asmodeus (obey me), and Milo thatch combined. Just soft, pretty and angelic. "I sound like a beautiful tune from the instruments that the God Apollo would perfectly play" quite literally from my script
