hey btw if you're in the USA at  2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 4, they're testing the emergency broadcast system. your phone is probably going to make a really loud noise, even if it's on silent. there's a backup date on the 11th if they need to postpone it.

if you're not in a safe situation and have an extra phone, you should turn that phone completely off beforehand.

additionally, if you're like me, and are easily startled; i recommend treating it like a party. have a countdown or something. be surrounded by your loved ones. take the actions you personally need to take to make yourself safe.

i have already seen mockery towards any person who feels nervous about this. for the record, it completely, completely valid to have "emergency broadcast sounds" be an anxiety trigger. do not let other people make fun of you for that. emergency sounds are legitimately engineered to make us take action; those of us with high levels of anxiety and/or neurodivergence are already pre-disposed to have a Bad Time. sometimes it is best to acknowledge that the situation will be triggering for some, and to prepare for that; rather than just saying "well that's stupid, it's just a test."

"loud scary sound time" isn't like, my favorite thing, but we can at least try to prevent some additional anxiety by preparing for it. maybe get yourself a cake? noise cancelling headphones? the new hozier album? whatever helps. love u, hope you're okay. we are gonna ride it out together.

Chilchuck is one of those special characters where you learn about his past and you go “ohhhh that explains a lot” except where for most characters this happens like once or maybe twice, with Chilchuck it happens literally any time you learn anything at all about him, and every time it’s explaining a different thing he has going on.

People love to say that it's ooc to write Crystal as a supportive friend, as good at being comforting, in fics, because she's got a temper and reacts very explosively to her own triggers (understandably).

But she IS actually canonically comforting, when she isn't being retraumatised herself.

She sits with Niko outside the bathroom, respecting her agoraphobia, but staying close and chatting sweetly with this girl she doesn't know, because she seems distressed. She sits with Charles when he's in tears about Hope Devlin's diary, supporting and comforting him about his dad and - perhaps most significantly, because she doesn't actually like him all that much - she takes Edwin's hands when he's having an emotional breakdown and tells him, with no frills, that he matters.

Crystal is a very talented psychic manipulator and when those powers are used for good, they make her powerfully empathetic and a strong supportive presence.

Tl;dr: writing Crystal as the person the boys or Niko confide in in fics is valid and it's reductive to mainly see post-amnesia Crystal as volatile and bad at feelings. She lashes out when she's triggered, as do the boys, but she is otherwise very comforting.

Listen, if you're gonna watch the Clone Wars you just gotta forget that the Jedi characters have the force.

Because that's exactly what the writers did whenever it was inconvenient for them. They'll only use the force when the plot needs them to, and you gotta find a way to accept that and pretend like its not a thing or you will constantly be yelling "but what about the force?" "how bout just USE THE FORCE!?" at your screen
