Machete and Vasco are so pomegranate-and-the-hand-that-slices coded. To me.

Pomegranates are seen as messy, bloody, inconvenient fruits. You slice or tear or bite and in return for your effort you come away underwhelmed, disgusted, and stained too deep to wash. The consumption of a pomegranate is a violent act of defilement, for both the fruit and the eater.

But that is because most do not understand how to open a pomegranate. They have little patience for the precise carving. They see no point in coreing the fruit gently, no reason to be reverent as they pull the quarters apart. When done correctly, opening a pomegranate leaves little mess. Your fingers will still stain, your knife will still slick, but there will be no pool of crimson drowning both you and the fruit.

The seeds are only sweet to those who understand the merit of a light hand and intricate slicing. Why put in so much effort for a food so bitter and clearly armored against consumption? Surely it must not yearn to be eaten.

Yeah, so while I was on my "I'm going to read into Vanny/Vanessa as much as possible" journey, I noticed an odd quirk in her animations in how she moves. At first, I thought it reminded me of a ballerina, 'cause she's kinda tip-toeing, & she has this way of keeping her head & chest in one place as she moves, but I looked again & realized --

That's not ballet! She's doing a tight-rope act. Like, look at this one:

This is like standing up on the wooden boards before you do the actual tight-rope walking, & the ring leader is hyping you up as you do some fun movement for the crowds. &, then, these:

These are all instances where she walks with one foot directly in front of the other. In that third, she's doing the "woaaah" wiggly-ass balance movements & everything, as if she's swaying up at the top of the tent, even though she's down on solid ground.

Idk, I feel like the way her feet are placed isn't accurate (pretty sure they should be pointed left & right, not both forwards...) doesn't make this 100% correct, but I like it. It also connects back with her first SB teaser, wherein she's up in the rafters.

That's very subjective!

For me personally, I'm totally fine with how it's played out. We get enough tidbits every season/developments with their dynamic that I'm pretty content. I also just think that when the time comes, how they choose to reveal that information to us (and especially to MK) will have optimal impact!

#but maybe it's not pacing that works for you and that's fine #the experience of pacing is subjective by nature #alright *puts on conspiracy cap*#to me it seems like they're wanting to throw another wrench into MK and Wukong's relationship next season #s4 was so heavily focused on Wukong's flawed past and there was a lot of buildup about his and mac's relationship in the s4 special #and then s5 had a lot of weird hints/info #specially with the stone/nine or whatever #and that weird wukong nuwa framing in 5x08 #And 5x01 kinda lampshading Wukong knowing about MK + his reincarnated friends #Like feels weird don't it #(WHICH. He could totally have not known about MK. But I still wanna learn more about why he wanted a student in the first place)#There are so many directions next season could go #But the direction I hope for most is really continuing 5x04 stuff #Like idk I personally feel like we didn't fully unpack Monkey MK. In certain aspects anyhow #And it's like omg 2 seasons later and we finally resolved the to pain scene!!!#But we haven't really resolved like. Carmen Berzatto ranking extremely high on the list of characters that I adore and relate to does not affect the fact that I LOVE every single time Sydney tells him off for literally anything. Yeah girl get his ass.

Which honestly I think is interesting.#I don't know if I like it yet but when every other Khaenri'ah character has one of their major traits being that they super fucking #care that they are Khaenri'an (whether that be Kaeya with his paranoia/destiny/duty or Dain with his guilt over his failure/desire to #prevent our sibling from fucking with anything too much or whatever the fuck is going on with Pierro)#having a character who is Khaenri'an but doesn't seem to particularly be invested in that part of themself is different #she cares more about the curse and its effects on her then she ever really cares about the Crimson Moon Dynasty or the cataclysm #IDK I think it's neat from a character writing angle. or at least it has the potential to be if the writers do a good job.#But from a 'I like maybe 3 things in this game and one of them is Khaenri'ah' perspective it SUCKSSSSS #That part of the plot is already suffering from chronic live-service storytelling disease where people just straight up don't tell you #shit that they logically SHOULD BE TELLING YOU because the game needs to save plot points to build hype around #so for one of like 4-ish (depending on how much we count Albedo) Khaenri'an major characters to give us literally 1 and 1/2 voicelines #kinda sucks ngl. but again it's also interesting and realistic for Arlecchino and from that angle I like it #she doesn't care about what fate says her place in the world is. she's gonna carve her own and being Khaenri'an isn't relevant to #the life and identity she has built for herself. she isn't the type to look for answers she doesn't need. she's practical and efficient.#at the very least it's better than when Albedo 'I want to find all the world's truths' Kreideprinz doesn't let the audience in on his stuff

#oh no the boy #he looks like his soul is about to leave his body #what goes on behind those saucer eyes I wonder #the horrors it's gotta be the horrors #the shading and lighting are absolutely delicious!#so many good hues and shades #the orange purple and magenta #I use cool colors so rarely (practically never) so it's straight up ~weird~ seeing Machete with a blue color palette #but it works it makes him look even more out of sorts than average #I'm liking all the sharp angles on his ears #oh and the lone strand of fur between them! I draw that too!#I find it terribly flattering when I get gift art from people who say they don't draw furries/animals very often #because if they're willing to venture outside their comfort zone like that it must mean they really truly like the character #I only draw human characters under extreme and unusual circumstances I know how daunting it can be #to switch from a familiar subject to a more foreign one like that #so I see the effort you put into the piece and I appreciate it!#gift art #lumilasi #own characters #Machete #kanssasuomalainen! virtuaalinen yläfemma o/

I did kind of enjoy the first chapter of Parkinson's Hornblower "biography" because it offered some things that I had either been wondering about or which I thought were delightful little headcanons, but I have to say that since then it has just been making me hate Hornblower an unbelievable amount and/or occasionally go he would not fucking say that

#on another note this is very similar to the little stories on hmssurprise.org in that it gives the vibes of #'someone needs to introduce these guys to the concept of fanfiction'#he's writing his own little stories about hornblower! he's making up theories about his family! girl get on ao3!#it is also like reading a fic in that sometimes you're like 'i'm going to steal that' and sometimes you're like 'he would not say that'#he is making hornblower horrifically ambitious and he's somehow doing maria even dirtier than cs forester if that was even possible #so. y'know. he's taking him in the opposite direction he's making him be exactly what cs forester wanted him to be which is perfect #and him being perfect is absolutely godawful when you don't have his personal torment nexus brain monologue going on over it #perhaps this is a light into the brain of the Boat Dad Experience when reading these books. idk #it does present a fun angle of analysis of his character he is a guy consumed by ambition i'll give him that #i'm not buying all these guys saying he'd end up happy that way though sorry #perce rambles #percy yells at cecil scott #+ bonus yelling at my other pal cyril northcote!#i'll perhaps post stuff i found interesting if other people would like. let me know if you'd want to see that though
