can we take a moment to talk about the straight up hilarity of tf prime's setting
i gotta be honest i have no idea what the deal is with the vehicons. i dunno if they're canonically sentient or not but for all intents and purposes their only real role is cannon fodder, so they're basically like... megatron's little roombas. except instead of vacuuming they do crimes.
but ASIDE from that. guys. prime has such a small ass cast. and like they hype everything up so much and the stakes are supposedly so high. BUT THIS WAR IS LITERALLY JUST LIKE 10 GUYS. AT LEAST G1 HAD LIKE PLATOONS. BUT PRIME?? THERE'S NO ONE!! THEY'RE FIGHTING OVER A WHOLE PLANET WHEN THEY LITERALLY COULDN'T MAKE UP A SINGLE AMERICAN FOOTBALL TEAM!!!!!!!! I WILL NEVER GET OVER THIS!!

why does every article reporting on idf war crimes go "hamas, who started the war on october 7th with their brutal terrorist attack slaughtering innocent israeli civilians, has condemned the idf's use of-"? like, nearly verbatim every single time. we know about october 7th. we know by now. half the time, hamas isnt even relevant but they gotta find some way to sow doubt and numb any potential compassion responses. will you get fired if you show sympathy for murdered palestinian civilians without first adding a disclaimer saying its all their fault for being born in gaza? if you call "palestinians under 18" children? if you use the words "murdered" or "brutal" or "massacre" for acts that didnt occur on october 7th? if you call a spade a spade? why are israeli reports front page news without proper fact-checking but palestinian reporting is always "allegedly" even when theres video evidence? why does the idf not get the hamas treatment of reminding everyone that theyre biased before treating their words as law, like they havent been caught bold-faced lying again and again?
#soooooo fucking infuriating#'palestinians are allegedly starving but thats what hamas (who are savage terrorists in case you forgot) said as well so who knows?'#'idf soldiers are allegedly bragging about and showing pictures and videos of their war crimes on social media but#its not in english so we may never know what theyre saying. palestinian ''civilians'' are translating so whatever they say must be wrong'#'in other news. heres what ''doctors'' are referring to as a ''calendar'' but is written in arabic (terrorist language) so the idf must be#telling the truth when they say its proof they are all evil and must in some nebulous way suddenly stop living'#to be fair. the 'secret hamas names list disguised as calendar but REALLY about oct 7' shit was the target of skepticism quite early on#but it really does show how often the idf lies to justify obvious war crimes#maybe they should provide verified evidence or even just be given a bias disclaimer before printing their claims as fact???#every single fucking death toll is phrased as 'hamas-run ministry of health reports death toll of x' like?#yeah? thats their fucking government? what else do you expect?#you do understand that the healthcare portion of their government is probably more reputable#than what the phrasing of those headlines are obviously trying to imply?#i understand that bias is still possible there but its not armed combatants making shit up#its doctors who receive govt paychecks doing their best to identify the disfigured bodies not buried under rubble#youre not slick with that wording

#just saw a post that was like 'if you have religious or moral objections that stop you from providing certain types of medical care maybe#you shouldn't work in healthcare' (paraphrased) and...#what a way to look at the world tbh#like. they're talking about me i think - i am a conscientious objector when it comes to euthanasia#(which granted has come up exactly twice and both cases in a theoretical capacity only this is not a frequent request to me)#and... i am also a good doctor#last week i told someone that her weight doesn't matter to her health with receipts to prove it and she cried#no one had ever told her that before#and that was something that came from me specifically. that was something i would not trust all of the GPs in my practice - a practice of#excellent and compassionate GPs! - to say#i am verifiably doing good in my job that is coming from specifically who i am as a person#i cannot put that down when it comes to issues i care deeply about#fundamentally the fact that i cannot put it down is what makes me a good doctor#i think that's what i'm trying to get at#the reason that i do well by my patients is that i practice out of my values and my ethics#if i did not stand on that core i would not stand at all#so you can't have it both ways. you can't have engaged and active and compassionate healthcare providers without sometimes those engaged an#active providers having things they do not feel comfortable doing#and it is to everyone's service if they are up front about it and do not try to hide (i am suspicious of people who try to hide this)#i am literally figuring this all out as i type hence the v long tag ramble and also being nowhere near the post that started this train#(honestly in med school we talked so much about ethics as like. abortion! euthanasia! trans rights! and the ethics in practice is the littl#things. do you apologise when you mess up. how do you manage a consult with your patient with paranoid dementia and her child in the same#room at one time - or one by one bc that's fraught too. (that one's on top i had one of those today.) how do you act with grace when#you're a bit stressed and your patient is a bit stressed and the nurse wants to add five more things to your book. the day to day ethics is#SUCH a bigger thing when you come to actual practice.)#this is obviously entirely about me and leans on the fact that i largely do think i am doing a good job i am really feeling my own way#to a Thought. but i think to a certain extent it is generalisable

anyone else not believe in a "normal childhood". like so many people's experiences are so far from a "normal childhood" that i think normal childhoods are more myth than reality. and even when they do exist, children still are treated more like chattel than actual people. by this point, i think the concept of a "normal childhood" is a kind of propaganda pushed in movies and other media to obfuscate how pervasive childhood abuse and neglect is all over the world, ESPECIALLY of young girls.

trying to refill adhd meds is genuinely insane. bc the SECOND I bring up medication they're like "WOAH BOY, slow down there, are you perchance trying to open the biggest black market operation this city has ever seen?? are you gonna sell adderall to all your friends?? to those KIDS over there?!?" and I have to be like "please ma'am I've had this diagnosis for seven years now" and they go "7 YEARS?!?! your file says SIX" and I go "aw shucks, you caught me. I wonder if there is a very common symptom that could cause me to misconstrue time. and dates. I wonder what that could be attributed to, I wish the modern miracle of medicine could impart this wisdom upon us" and then they take out a gun and shoot me because I haven't had an annual physical in two years

Call Your Insurance - benefit questions
I get it, phone calls are scary! Here's some scenarios to show you what to expect when you call your insurance company. Don't be afraid to ask follow up questions - the only 'stupid question' is one you don't ask!
[beginning of call] Insurance rep: Hi, thanks for calling your insurance company, my name is X. How can I help you today? You: Hi, I'm calling to ask about my benefits. Rep: Okay, can I get your member ID number? [you provide] and can you verify your name and date of birth for me? [you verify. they may also ask for your phone number at this point.] Rep: Alright, I've got you pulled up here. What questions do you have today?
[example one] You: I think I need to see a specialist and wanted to know what my benefits are for lab work. Rep: Okay, give me a minute to get that information for you. [answer will obviously vary! they may ask clarifying questions to help find an accurate answer, such as diagnosis/issue you are seeking help for. they may also have to provide a disclaimer that they cannot guarantee benefits quoted] It looks like you have a $45 copay for specialist office visits, and that can include some basic lab work if it is billed on the same claim. If they send it to a separate lab, then your In Network benefit is 80% after deductible. You: Can you check to see if the specialist is In Network? And do I need a referral? Rep: Sure, what's the doctor's name? [they may tell you to verify with the provider if they are In Network, as not all insurance reps will have access to 100% confirm a provider's network contract status, unfortunately.]
[example two] You: I'm going to need surgery. What are my benefits? Rep: I can look that up for you. Where will you be having the surgery? [surgery benefits can depend on whether you are inpatient, outpatient, or in-office] You: At the hospital, I might have to be there a few days. Rep: Okay, inpatient services require precertification. Your doctor will need to start that process by submitting a precert request to our fax number or through our website. The benefit for hospital services is 80% after deductible. It looks like you've already met your deductible, so that means you'll be paying 20% until you hit your out of pocket max, which is $4000 for In Network services. You: Does that include my deductible?
[end of call] Rep: Is there anything else I can help you with today? You: No that's all. Can I get a reference number for the call? [feel free to ask for their name again if you didn't catch it or forgot! some systems don't have reference numbers and just use the rep's name and the date, so its always good to keep notes of when you called, who you spoke with, and what they told you!]

Just putting this out into the world because work has been an absolute night mare this month with cancelled and missed appointments.
When your dentist/doctor/optometrist/audiologist whatever the fuck office calls to confirm an appointment, please call or text them back promptly.
Don’t call 20 minutes before your appointment to say you forgot about it, or to cancel unless you have a legitimate reason. We send out so many calls and texts to ensure that the time we’ve blocked out for your appointment will be filled. We don’t have the time to scramble and find someone to fill that open spot. Then we up at the front desk get frustrated providers asking why their schedule is falling apart suddenly.
Long story short, confirm your appointments and don’t wait to cancel/reschedule them the day before.
Sincerely,
A very fucking exhausted treatment coordinator

such a large portion of the disabled community is some flavor of trans which is a shame bc the trans community is so overtly hostile to disabled women and our needs, and trans ideology is diametrically opposed to ethical, feminist medicine. at the same time radfem spaces can be very unwelcoming to disabled women, but it's also the only space where we're even allowed to mention female-specific healthcare, so where do we go

congrats on taking T and experiencing voice changes, that's so exciting!! 🥳🥳✨✨
thank you!!! it's been a period of intense learning of myself and my place in the world and I wouldn't trade it for anything
#fredfinch#soupy post#if you will allow me to ramble further in the tags since I haven't really talked about this very much <333#it was something I was really not certain about for a very long time. I kind of needed to start it to understand my feelings about it#and now my feelings are 'yay!' and singing joyfully#(singing is amazing. every day my range changes and I sound more like myself. I feel the vibrations in my chest and it feels like home)#I'm very grateful to the circumstances in my life that have allowed me to make my own decisions about my body and experience#I have a trans healthcare provider and I wish I could give that gift to every trans person seeking gender affirming care#they are so wonderful and have gone above and beyond on my behalf#they let me be unsure. they did not push me one bit they made sure I had all the info and answered every question I had#I asked if I could decide if I wanted it on my own at home and they said absolutely. and I obviously decided to move forward#I don't think T is something that I will be on for the rest of my life but right now it absolutely feels like the right thing#I am getting permanent changes that are gender affirming for me and I understand elements of my gender even better#I feel intensely masculine but less like a man than I've ever felt in my life. I feel very connected to my butchness tho#and extremely extremely connected to my voice <3#anyways thank you again for your message mr fredfinch it put a great big smile on my face

Medical professionals can be very, very stupid. I'm sure there are smart ones out there somewhere but I swear every time I need advice I get the most deeply stupid one imaginable.
I know you aren't doing your job correctly because I googled this question before I asked it to you and you ignored 9/10 things the CDC and Mayo Clinic both said you were supposed to ask me about. You did not even let me finish my question.
How are you going to know if there's something you need to be concerned about if you won't even let me tell you the thing I'm concerned about?
