“The Dark After Dusk, The Wolf Comes Howlin’” (or TDADTWCH for short) is a fanfic that follows the story of Hogarth Hughes (now 18yo) and his twin brother, Heath as they race against time to find a cure after one of them is bitten by a werewolf. It is a fusion between “The Iron Giant” (1999) and “Ginger Snaps” (2000) with added elements from other popular media and the author’s own imagination. This story is only intended for a mature audience.

Note
Been re-reading your fic "The dark after dusk, the wolf comes howlin’", and man it is so good!! It's such a intriguing story, and you have a fantastic writing style which pulls people in so easily. Heath is a great OC, he works so well with Hogarth, and his interaction with other characters is fun to read. Also eight crazy nights mention?? I'm like, one of five people who actually like that movie so to see Benjamin and Davey made me so happy!! Saw the trailer you made for it and it looks amazing, definitely excited to see more content come from you! Will be following closely (≡^∇^≡)
You know, I didn't realize until this very moment that I named Benny's friend Adam and in the movie, Davey is played by Adam Sandler. How did I not realize that until now??? My brain will never stop amazing me. 😅
I'm glad to hear that you enjoy the story! Chapter 2 is nearly finished and I'm working hard to make sure the audio version is the best it can be. I'll be posting updates to the story on its blog, @tdadtwch so be sure to keep an eye out.
Thanks so much for the ask and have a great day/night!!! 🐺🌕✨
(P.S: Adam isn't actually Davey. He's just another OC of mine but I hope you'd enjoyed him regardless ☺)

ABOUT: He’s a canon character from the movie “The Iron Giant” and the main protagonist of the fanfic, “the dark after dusk, the wolf comes howlin’”. When his twin brother gets infected by a werewolf, he does everything he can to find a cure. Although, how far is he willing to go to find one before it’s too late?
FAMILY:
Heath Hughes (twin brother)
Annie Hughes (mother)
Dean McCoppin (stepfather)
Jonathan Hughes (father; deceased)
FRIENDS:
Gerry McDonald
Benny Friedman-Stone
Adam
ENEMIES:
Kent Mansley
Griffin Johnson
Harry
Willy
APPEARANCE: He’s a handsome young man with auburn hair, blue eyes, and crooked teeth. He’s tall (5’9), and has a lean and somewhat toned build. He’s usually seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, a hooded flannel jacket, black Converses and a handmade screw-bolt necklace around his neck. He’ll also be seen wearing a red-and-black cargo jacket, similar to the jacket he wore as a kid.
PERSONALITY: He’s a kind and intelligent person and is willing to help others when they need it most. As a child, he was more outgoing, talkative, curious and fun, but as he got older, he has become more cautious and reserved due to years of bullying and judgment. Even so, his true self will shine through whenever he’s with family and friends. He sometimes thinks himself a coward but would often put his own life in danger for the people he loves and cares about. He’s also very observant and is able to come up with a plan whenever he needs to, especially when under stress.

IRON GIANT WEREWOLF AU: Chapter 3 Preview
Heath inhaled another puff of smoke, smirking as he made his way across the blacktop. Benny was waiting for him in a shady spot on the other side of the court. He popped open a can of beer before looking up at the other teen.
“Who was that?”
“Nobody, just a cuck who thinks he’s more important than he actually is.”
Shrugging, Benny took a swig of his beer as Heath sat on the ground next to him. They spent the next few minutes in comfortable silence, watching as Adam and a few other guys chatted amongst themselves. Heath took another drag of the cigarette and looked over at Benny.
“Hey, let me hit that,” he said, gesturing to the drink. He took the can from the other boy and gulped down some of the lukewarm beverage. He usually preferred vodka over beer but the taste was fine regardless. Heath exhaled deeply, closing his eyes and soaking in the cool air.
He tried thinking of another time in his life where he felt this same amount of calm. What came to mind was a moment from his childhood, back when his father was alive and well. He and Hogarth were sitting on a bench and eating ice cream in the park. Jonathan Hughes was sitting behind them on the edge of the town’s fountain, quietly taking in the scenery. At some point Hogarth’s ice cream scoop fell onto the ground with a splat. Heath laughed and his own frozen treat was shoved into his face seconds later.
Now with a glob of Butter Pecan on his nose, both brothers glared at each other before turning to the sound of their dad’s laughter. Jonathan had laughed so hard that he slipped and fell backward into the fountain with a yelp. Hogarth and Heath immediately burst into a fit of hysterics, their previous feud disappearing from their minds.
Heath smiled as he opened his eyes, reminiscing on simpler times. Just two siblings and their dad having the time of their lives; the three of them against the world. He was pulled from his reverie when he noticed Benny watching him.
“...Do I have something on my face?”
Benny shook his head. “I just can’t believe you’re sitting here.”
“What, am I too close to His Majesty?” Heath quipped, passing the can back to him.
“Haha, smartass. But seriously, I never thought in a million years that you would be sitting here and hanging out with me. I mean this past week was the most fun I had in awhile.” Benny furrowed his brow. “Did somebody spike the water supply or something? Because it’s like you’re this whole new person.”
“Dude, I feel like a new person!” Technically, this statement was true.
Ever since his argument with Hogarth, Heath felt more and more different as the days went by. He was better, faster, stronger. Like an old machine taken apart and made anew. Colors were brighter, sounds were clearer and scents were fresher. He never felt more alive!
Sure, there were a few drawbacks—like the fur growing out of his scars and the white streaks appearing in his hair. But it’s nothing that a pair of scissors and some hair dye can’t fix.
Heath’s gaze drifted to the tattoo on Benny’s right upper arm. It was a black and white basketball with the number fourteen written over it. Pointing to it, he asked, “What’s the story behind that?”
Benny lifted his arm. “Oh, this? Just something I got before I left my hometown. It symbolizes all the baskets I scored during my first ever game. One of the best moments of my life.”
“Where’s home?”
“Dukesberry, New Hampshire.” Benny took another sip of beer, smiling wistfully. “It’s like Rockwell but with a large Jewish community.”
“Hey, fellas!” They looked up to see Adam waving his arms at them. “You guys up for another game? We want a rematch.”
Heath and Benny nodded eagerly as they both got up from the ground. Heath took back the can and stuffed his cigarette butt inside it before crushing the aluminum in his fist. He tossed it into a nearby garbage bin when Benny spoke up again.
“Hey, you doing anything Friday night?”
“Not really, why?”
“We’re going to a party at the old Jackson residence. I mentioned it to you before. The deserted farm outside of town?”
“I remember…” Heath arched an eyebrow. “So you seriously want me to come to this thing?”
“Yeah, dude. I think you’d have a good time.”
“What about everyone else? Wouldn’t it kill the mood if The Heathen turned up and crashed the party?”
“It’s not crashing if you’re invited,” Benny pointed out. When he noticed the slight hesitation in the teen’s gaze, he quickly added, “But if you don’t wanna go, then that’s fine too! I just thought I’d ask. Most of the school is gonna be there as well as some other people. It’s probably gonna be a bit overwhelming so if you say no, that’s totally—”
“Okay.”
Benny blinked. “Wait, what?”
“I said okay. We’ve been hanging out a lot anyway so I might as well tag along.” Heath threw an arm around the other’s shoulders. “Y’know, you’re not as annoying as I thought you’d be.”
Benny rolled his eyes as he blushed. “And you’re not as horrible at basketball as I thought you’d be so I guess we’re even.”
“I’ll show you horrible, you little bastard!” Heath laughed, putting the other teen into a headlock and ruffling his hair. Once they separated, he grinned roguishly. “Now let’s go fucking decimate these assholes.”

IRON GIANT WEREWOLF AU: Chapter 3 Preview #2
He was in the woods again and this time, something was after him.
Hogarth kept his eyes focused on the path ahead, his heart racing as he ran. The world around him was bathed in red, and the trees were gnarled and blackened. They made maneuvering around almost impossible, their limbs grappling at his clothes and roots popping out of nowhere to trip him. Cuts and bruises littered his skin, all left behind by smacking branches. Hogarth swallowed hard, a hint of copper in his saliva. He needed to keep moving.
He could hear it behind him, the thing chasing him. Don’t look back, he thought to himself. Just don’t look back. Twigs and crunching leaves resounded behind him, as well as the creature’s angry howls. It was gaining on him. Sooner or later, it was going to close the distance between them. He pushed himself to run faster, his legs screaming from the exertion. He needed to keep moving. He needed to keep moving. The thought repeated itself over and over in his head, so much so that he failed to realize the ground becoming wet and squishy.
One minute he was running on a solid forest floor and the next he was splashing across a river of blood. His cry of surprise was immediately cut short as he descended into the frigid abyss and the world went silent. For a moment, there was only calm and then… Hogarth’s head broke the crimson surface, gasping for air.
He did his best to stay afloat, trying to keep the blood out of his eyes. A roar cut through the air, and he looked up to see a large shape getting closer and closer. He turned and began swimming away as fast as he could, continuing forward as he had before. The river seemed to thicken the further he went, his muscles aching and his lungs burning. He wasn’t going to make it. He couldn’t keep swimming like this for long. The creature was going to catch up with him at any moment and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
Hogarth sank under the torrent of blood and when he resurfaced, he could make out a shadowy figure standing in the distance. Another person? He tried waving an arm to get their attention, his movements frantic. “Hey! Hey, I’m here! I’m right here! Please!”
Panic and terror overrode his senses as he continued to scream for help. He tried everything he could to get the mysterious figure to notice him but it was too late. Before another sound could leave his lips, a large clawed hand burst out of the water and violently grabbed his face from behind. He was then pulled under the river’s surface and the world was no more.

The two managed to sneak into the school unseen, immediately ducking into the nearest restroom. The first thing Hogarth did was check inside each of the stalls, making sure the two of them were indeed alone. Heath was still riding the high from his encounter with Griffin, laughing proudly to himself.
“Man, that was fucking awesome! Did you see the look on that cocksucker’s face? Oh, I wish you had your camera with you because that was fucking gold!”
Satisfied that there was no one else in the room with them, Hogarth turned back to his brother. He was uncertain on what to say next, struggling to find the right words.
“Heath, listen—”
“Also, that thing with the dog…” Heath continued, too caught up in the moment. “She was this close to my fucking face and I didn’t even flinch! Shit, I don’t know how to explain it. I just felt this sort of… rush going through me. Like when you go drag racing for the first time. I felt powerful, like nothing can hurt me.”
It was then when he took notice of his brother’s lack of enthusiasm and he turned to look at him. Hogarth didn’t say anything at first, still trying to process everything that happened. He really didn’t want to ruin Heath’s good mood, considering he was a complete asshole for most of the day but there was so much that needed to be discussed. He didn’t know where to start.
It was Heath who broke the silence first. “What?”
“Heath, are you sure you’re okay?” Hogarth asked, his gaze unwavering.
“Uh… yeah? Why do you keep asking me that? Didn’t you see what just happened back there? I totally kicked ass!”
“I’m not just talking about that.” Hogarth took a deep breath and continued. “You’ve been acting really weird ever since you woke up. I mean, since when do you smoke weed?”
Heath shrugged. “I wanted to try something new. Is that wrong?”
“What about Benny? I thought you hated the guy.”
“I don’t hate him. I just never saw the point in getting to know him. Besides, what’s the problem? I can hang out with other people if I want to.”
“You never wanna hang out with other people! Literally every time someone tried to talk to us, you would snap and scare them off. It’s one of the reasons why people have a hard time being around you.”
“Gee, thanks, Garth. That was definitely something I needed to hear,” Heath scoffed, scratching at his arm again. “Look, I don’t see what the big deal is. So what if I’m being friendly with Benny? People can change their minds, G, or haven’t you realized?”
“Seriously, Heath, something feels very wrong here. Like more than just weird comas and smoking weed. I’m not entirely sure but I think it has something to do with what happened.” Hogarth paused as he waited for a response but his brother wasn’t paying any attention. Heath was too busy scratching at his right upper arm, the sound of nails against fabric filling the silence. “Can you stop scratching and say something please?”
“I’m trying but these bandages really itch,” Heath mumbled, still scratching.
“Just go ahead and take them off. It’s not like you need them anyway.”
“Alright, fine…” Heath slipped off his leather jacket and draped it across the restroom sinks. He then pulled his arm from his jumpsuit sleeve and began unraveling the bandages. Once the skin was free from its gauze prison, he took a good, long look at his scars.
“The fuck?” he breathed.
Hogarth turned to him. “What?”
“What the fuck?”
