I got caught up in thinking I was so unique that no one else could understand my journey. Then I began to listen to others in groups and meetings and came to understand we are all walking the same path. I wish you light on the journey!

Raised in the chaos and abuse that was my childhood, my body and mind learned to be hypervigilant at all times. I focused on anticipating what might happen, and stayed stuck in what did happen. Learning to stay present in this moment felt terrifying at first. Today it is a gift.

Dissociation.

i didn't believe there was any light in me, until enough healing took place, until i dug down deep through the defensive, protective layers to reveal the dawn.

To the thousands of people I've sat in 12-step groups with, to the people I was in group therapy with, to the sisters and brothers of my heart, to the online posters who share, to every person I've encountered on this healing journey. Thank you

Moving through fear. For me, it was fear of the light. I was comfortable in the darkness, because I knew what to expect and how the pain felt. I had all my weapons and defenses ready to deal with it. Stepping into the light was stepping into an alien land, defenseless.

I used to feel I had to comment on everything -- in meetings, online, on the phone, in person... Now I realize that was my codependency pushing me.
