Character Design in HH and ROR
Something I’ve noticed when it comes to people criticizing the character design for these two shows is that those criticisms are often based on expectations and/or opinions viewers have on what the characters should look like.
Because by themselves no design in HH or ROR is bad, both series have extremely unique characters with designs that fit their personalities and settings extremely well.
I personally think the accusations of bad character design come from preconceived notions of what they should look like. Let’s take Hades from ROR and Beelzebub from HB, both are good designs that fit their characters and the aesthetic of their worlds extremely well but are considered bad because they don’t align with what people from their out of universe knowledge and lore think they should look like.
Forgetting these characters are not the exact same as the mythological characters they are based on. They are interpretations whose main priority is fitting into their respective words, not real life mythology. Hades keep the trend of what we have been shown Greek gods look and act like in ROR, and Beelzebub looks canine and bee like because she is essentially the hellhound’s patron goddess and her entire situation with the honey.
Maybe it doesn’t fit what people want these characters to look and act like based strictly on their real world mythology, but they were never going to fit in the first place. Their priority is to their respective stories, not what someone else thinks it is.
The humans, gods and sins may not look like exact historical recreations but that doesn’t make them flawed, there is value in historical accuracy I don’t deny that nor do I deny that artist liberties may sometimes be used to cover up rascism.

Doomsday Angst Edits
Once Doomsday comes out, if I see any edits with Doom and Peter/Pepper/Rhodey to that one Silent Hill audio I am going to die. They are all going to kill me in differently brutal ways. Like imagine this with slight tweaks depending on the person Doom is interacting with.
——-
“Do I look like your girlfriend?”
“No… my late wife. I can’t believe it, you could be her twin… your face, your voice, just your hair and clothes are different.”
“My name is Maria, I don’t look like a, uh ghost, do I? “
————
I am going to die because of the angsty edits, I can smell them.

Captain America are Artists
Steve draws and he does so magnificently, even when he thinks it is not that good and duty drowns him. He often re-used pages and pushed his pencils until they were little nubs, always hoped to buy a nice sketchbook. He often drew the other Avengers in his free time whenever they lounged together. Had a luxury sketchbook bought by Tony filled with drawings of his teammates and the tower, Tony often splurged on expensive art supplies for Steve. He would often sketch Bucky’s face over and over as to not forget him, even though he knows he had super soldier memory.
Sam dances and sings, it is a form of expression a way to let free. He is also from Louisiana and grew up in a happy community where I believe this was encouraged. He has his preferred dancing styles but is extremely versatile and can learn really quickly. He and his sister once won a competition together. He considers himself a better dancer than singer but Sarah tells him otherwise. He only really sings when he is really happy. After TFATWS, he would often sing to Bucky in the morning, dancing around him. He stopped singing and dancing for a while after Riley died.
John paints, as a child he won a small art kit as a kid and discovered his talent at it. His mother encouraged it buying him better supplies when she could afford it. He met Olivia in an art store whole buying supplies in High school, she did clay statues and asked him to paint them. Watercolor is his preference though he is skilled in oil as well but doesn’t like it because of the smell, specially after becoming a super soldier. He stopped pairing after Lemar’s death, he couldn’t even look at his art. Didn’t touch a brush until after the TB had settled into the tower, painting the view and his teammates.

Tumblr media
Me everyone I hear people praising Superman 2025 while bashing MOS and BVS for stupid reasons:
Tumblr media
Can’t People Enjoy Something Without Hating on Something Else?
I watched the new Superman movie and I ADORED it. Honestly amazing and I have nothing but praises to sing for it but something that has caught my attention is how some people praise this movie while throwing hate onto MOS and BVS, most of which comes from a lack of understanding of the plot of those movies or just nonsensical takes.
Can’t people simply enjoy something without pushing down something else? It is a genuine question because almost 50% of praises I’ve heard for this movie always seem to come with an insult towards MOS and BVS included, like a toy in a cereal box.
I am not saying those movies are perfect but how people praise the new superman film for things they criticized in the other two strikes me as hypocritical.
For example: people criticized and hated on BVS for the fact his eyes flashed red when Lex Luthor threw pictures of his kidnapped and brutalized elderly mother in his face while actively mocking him but those same people praised Superman 2025 Clark when he screamed in Lex’s face, threw a desk, shattered a door and threatened him over a dog (I am a dog owner myself, I get feeling protective over them) yet he got nothing but praise for it.
As Wanda said it hardly seems fair.
For those willing to give BVS and MOS a chance to metaphorically explain themselves I recommend watching the video “Why you are wrong about Batman v Superman” by Twin Perfect on YouTube, he has an couple of videos dedicated to explaining common misconceptions and misunderstandings people have about this films, from plot, to themes and characterization. I also recommend Implicitly Pretentious’ video “Batman v Superman”.
If you are willing to give these movies the chance you’ll find they are better than they are given credit for.
Anyways l loved both versions of Superman as one loves different but equally delicious plates of food.

I understand the X-men getting prosecuted for who they are and them being outcasts is such an important part of their stories (I love the social commentary and symbolism) but it pisses me off when it is done at the expense of other characters (see X-men 97)
I would rather the Avengers and other heroes not exist than for them to get butchered just so the narrative weight of the X-men does get lessened.
It would take actual work and effort to get both teams into a single universe while not losing the themes and message of each team, which unfortunately writers are not willing to do.
(I will never forgive the way X-men 97 writers MASSACRED and BUTCHERED Steve Rogers #justiceforsteve)
The Avengers in X-men Media
The Avengers are a group made up mostly out of people who are morally grey/ have questionable pasts but are actively trying to change and make a positive change in the world. That is what makes them so compelling, they are people (again mostly) seeking to do good despite past failings.
So tell me why in every single fucking piece of Xmen media where the Avengers appear in they are reduced to unidimensional caricatures of themselves while the X-men are given fully tridimensional character arcs? I get it is not their show but to always show them in such negative light completely ignoring the nuance of their characters always struck me as unfair.
Specially because the X-men tend to get treated well when they pop up in Avengers centric stories.
And it is not only a narrative and characterization issue, the Avengers tend to get downplayed and nerfed whenever they go against or even with the X-men to make the aforementioned shine.
I just don’t get why? Can’t writers treat both teams with the respect they deserve?
I genuinely hope the Avengers won’t get sidelined and mistreated when the X-men pop up in the MCU, if they do I am going to riot.
And the fact this is also an issue with fanfiction not just comics/other media. Whenever I see a crossover fic i sometimes have to genuinely ask myself if the writers hate the Avengers. I get they are not everyone’s cup of tea which is fine (for tastes there are colors) but often they are written with such vitriol that it genuinely makes the fic impossible to read if you hold these characters in any esteem.
(anyways that was the rant, this is in no way hate towards the X-men, i love them so much)

I agree 100%
Honestly if writers are not willing to put in the effort to make the Avengers make sense/have meaningful commentary or symbolism in X-men media they should not use them period.
I swear I liked X-men 97 until the whole Avengers thing, then it became unwatchable. Because what do you mean CAPTAIN AMERICA the guy that in every single one of his stories disobeys the government in one way or another because it is the right thing to do just stood aside and let the government kill innocents?!?!?! Did the writers forget this guy fought NAZIS?!?! Hell not just in comics, MCU Cap does not have a single movie where he is not outright calling the government out on their bullshit and doing his own thing because he thinks the government is being unjust. Either 97 writers didn’t do any research (bad) or they saw all that and still made him into a horrible caricature of himself (worse).
They butchered every single one of their characters so badly just to make the X-men shine. I get that prosecution is a big factor in X-men stories but by god does this being done at the expense of the Avengers’ characterization piss me off so badly.
The Avengers just standing aside and doing nothing is not them, their whole thing is that they are trying to save people and make the world a better place because they previously did much harm. So them standing to the side doing NOTHING while a genocide is going on is such character assassination it genuinely made 97 unwatchable to me.
Also I feel calling the Avengers beloved and government approved is a bit of a stretch considering the huge amount of stories where the government is constantly trying to meddle into their affairs and pushing for control over them + the public’s approval being flimsier than toilet paper and how willing they are to turn against the avengers at the first mistake. (See the whole collateral damage during alien invasions debacle)
Xmen writers should be forbidden from touching the Avengers with a 10 meter pole unless they can be proven to write them properly.
Unless serious work is put in, the X-men just don’t fit in with the rest of marvel without the rest of the entire cast getting butchered in the process (not just talking about the Avengers anymore but the F4, Spiderman, etc) They should honestly keep both apart. I am hoping this whole merger is well done in the reboot but if we get another 97 situation I am done lol.

Which Book would be best for a crossover?
I finally began reading the HTTYD books and after I was inspired by @sentient-mawce ‘s beautiful, amazing, extraordinary, gorgeous, elegant, excellent, exquisite, glorious, lovely, splendid, resplendent, wonderful, stunning, fabulous, wonderful, magnificent, marvelous, delightful, breathtaking, majestic, spectacular, awesome, incredible, enchanting, mesmerizing and captivating crossover comic between the HTTYD movies and comics, I began thinking of my own crossover but as I am not an artist who can draw I decide to write a fanfic.
And I am having trouble deciding which book to place the crossover in. So I am asking people for their opinions on which book would be best suited for a crossover.
As for the movie verse, I am thinking the second movie as that has a particular plot beat I am planning on having turn into a canon divergence (making the fic technically take place in an AU), but I am open to hear suggestions on other periods of the movie verse. Like the first movie or RTTE, hell even post HTTYD 3.

Smile Curse
I recently rewatched the Smile movies and got to wondering the range of hosts the curse could have. As it seems the only true requirements are that the host is sentient and can experience trauma. While also having the side effect of being more or less violent/powerful depending on the mental fortitude and balance of the person (look Joel and Sky for comparison). It also can be more traumatic if someone you care about passes it to you.
So would/could sentient nonhumans be affected by it?
Someone like Toothless from HTTYD, any cybertronian from Transformers, Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, Cortana from Halo, Kong from The Monsterverse, Warwick from Arcane, demons from Demon Slayer, the yatjua from Predator, etc etc. You get my idea.
So any opinions/suggestions? Do you think it could affect them or characters like them? And if so, how long do you think it would take to kill them?
If it breaks them, things like durability and strength become non factors as the curse makes them do it.

Movie Toothless and Book Hiccup
I am currently reading the HTTYD books and each time I see Book Hiccup getting disrespected and attacked I know in my heart Movie Toothless would not stand for that, he would throw hands (talons and paws). He would go fire and blood on Snoutloud for even looking at Hiccup wrong.
And honestly? Book Hiccup deserves someone who would protect him reliably, he can do it himself but he deserves better, he deserves someone who would put their lives on the line for him without question.
Movie Toothless would curl around Book Hiccup and hide him under his wing. Just lick him all over and refuse to let him out of his sight.
He would def make everyone who has ever wronged Hiccup grovel and if they don’t plasma.
Bro would be working overtime to keep Book Hiccup safe jsjsjs. His kill list would be massive considering how much more violent the books are than the movies.
Don’t believe me just look at how willing he was to maul Stoick (in the first movie), Dagur, Viggo, Drago and all the other dragons who threatened Movie Hiccup. He was willing to put them six feet underground and was only stopped by Hiccup.

The how to train your dragon movies are like someone put a very specific curse on me, with a level of vitriol hitherto unseen. What kinda sick bastard thinks up “I hope your favorite childhood book series gets adapted into a movie that has almost nothing to do with the source material. I hope your favorite characters get replaced with lookalikes with a totally different personalities. I hope these movies are beloved, that they’re so much more popular than the books you loved that nobody knows what you’re talking about when you mention them. I hope they’re genuinely good movies, so you can’t even hate them for being bad, there shall be no ground for you to stand on as you sink into the sea.” WHAT ANCIENT GOD HATH I ANGERED TO BE PUNISHED SO?
