Sylvia Plath wrote "Lady Lazarus" in 1962, during a creative burst of energy in the months before her death by suicide in 1963. The dark poem provides insight into a suicidal mind, a glimpse at the horror of being a woman in a patriarchal world, and a critique of society's twisted fascination with suffering." Lady Lazarus is told from the perspective of a woman in a male-dominated society, and the speaker repeatedly blames her suffering on the men whom she sees as oppressing her. The poem suggests that the men mentioned are the ones—whether loved ones or doctors—who keep bringing the speaker back to life, suggesting how little autonomy women can ever hope to have in a patriarchal world.

//Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" illustrated by Gustave Doré
The Raven. The poem tells the story of a nameless narrator as he laments the loss of his lover, Lenore. As the poem’s narrative unfolds, the narrator’s mental health gradually deteriorates as he is repeatedly visited by a talking raven. The magical bird never fails to remind his conversation partner: the relationship between he and Lenore is “Nevermore.”

Kafka's Diaries play a vital role in soothing the many struggling writers out there and I feel we all tend to connect with each other through sorrow like these. Often people are incapable of sharing happiness much the same as they could share grief and it is solely this ache within us that binds us all in some way or the other in different forms.

The Death of Albine
Tumblr media
This painting is based on the tragic climax of Émile Zola's 1874 anti-clerical novel 'The Sin of Father Mouret', the fifth novel in the author’s twenty-volume series 'Les Rougon-Macquart'. Set in a small provincial town, Albine, its female protagonist, is an uneducated and fanciful young girl who falls in love with the neurotic Father Mouret. Suffering from amnesia, he consummates a passionate romance with her, but when his memory returns is wracked by guilt and abandons her.
"And I often find myself thinking that happiness is fatal and fleeting so why must I dare to have a moment of glee when the coming day I'll have to drown myself in a sea of sorrow"

Tubercular Venus: When the Beauty Standard was Dying
Tumblr media
Throughout the Western world from the 1780s to 1880s during the Georgian-Victorian obsession with Tubercular Beauty. Now, women have been accidently harming themselves in the name of beauty for aeons from lead-based cosmetics, to arsenic skin tonic to unhealthy fasting diets. The Victorian preoccupation with Tuberculosis was different. It was the romanticisation and sexualisation of tubercular symptoms and ultimately dying women.

I don't know what love is made of But if I had to answer it I'd say it's made of you The love that you oh so keenly pour inside of me Filling me upto the brim that I overflow with the joy of it

I noticed that I mostly start my writing with the words "I'm afraid", and I didn't quite understand why until a few moments ago. There is always this sadness, this tear in my heart whenever I hear those words being said, they have so much meaning to me, they're always followed by a dreadful announcement, you can feel your heart sinking whenever you hear them" I'm afraid he didn't make it" " I'm afraid we can't be together" " I'm afraid this is my last letter" " I'm afraid I'm starting to lose myself again". And I'm afraid I can relate to all of these announcements, even though I never wanted to be a part of it, then again we're all filled with fear, we cannot possibly live without it, yet we don't want to hear about it.
