The Fuckery of the COD Sunshine Zine
Hey y'all, it's been absolute eons since I've been around. I've not been apart of the COD fandom for a while or writing but I felt that I had to speak up in case others weren't aware of what was going on with a specific Zine for the COD Fandom. Tagging them because at this point, everyone deserves answers.
Please ignore some of the tags though trying to get this post out there to be seen by the fandom since it's fucking bad.
@sunshine-soap-zine
Basically, in short, all money meant for the Zine and merch was used up by Micky (one of the people in charge of it). Merch has allegedly thankfully been made and SOME has been shipped out, digitial copies of the Zine exist, but the physical Zine itself? There's no money left.
Over $6,500 was raised in profits that was supposed to go to Care for Gaza and Stonewall Scotland, two important charities near and dear to many, but all of that was used up and now there isn't even money left for the physical Zines, much less the charities.
You read that right - over $6,500 USD was set and slated in proceeds were to go to charities progressing LGBTQ+ rights and supporting those in a genocide and it's all been used up by one person and they still don't have the money to produce physical Zines and to get them out to those who paid for them. That's not even counting the original money MEANT for the Zines themselves too.
The Zine was centered around our beloved Soap MacTavish - who happens to be my favorite character. Seriously, I absolutely adore Soap. He's my favorite beyond favorite, so when I saw there was a Zine that happened to come across my timeline, I was thrilled! Especially because there were many artists there who I've either bought work from prior or who I'd been following for a while and was happy to see them finally get their stuff printed!
And now it's been unfolding in a disastrous way and I'm so... baffled, disappointed, and pissed off. I'm putting this under the cut because this is going to be a VERY long post.
Now, before I start into this shitshow, let me make two things abundantly clear:
This is NOT related to the Soap Journal Zine - they are two SEPERATE projects run by different people. DO NOT GO AFTER THEM OR ASK THEM ABOUT IT, they are unrelated.
The moderators, writers, and artists had nothing to do with this. NOTHING They were just as unaware as we (the public and consumers) were. They were not informed of any of this until the twitter and instagram post early this morning/late last night. They're not responsible for the actions of the person in charge and had no clue this was happening. If they did, they'd be exactly as appalled as they are now, I'm sure. They would've done something. But multiple artists and people on the actual discord have come forward and said that they, flat out, weren't aware and have expressed their disappointment and anger.
DO NOT drag the moderators, writers, and artists. This isn't on them. The moderators are doing all that they can to try and fix things and are scrambling to find a solution for this clusterfuck. It's an absolute shit shown given what's been handed to them and how it's been dumped on them, but they're doing their absolute best. Plenty of them were victims of this too as they too contributed money and many of them bought bundles themselves!
Onto the meat of this.
This post was made on the instagram page and the twitter for the Zine:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And honestly? I'm not sure where to begin.
First and foremost, I'm not going to take into question their health. That's none of my business. I'm not going to call them a liar or state that that never happened - once again, none of my business. I'm not going to nitpick that and I do sincerely hope that they're well and things start to get better for them.
What DOES matter is that the money for the Zine was used up. It's gone. Y'know, the main anchor of the project that MANY artists put their blood, sweat, and tears into. A digital version was released months ago but the physical one is now into question.
Allegedly, all the other merch is on hand. Some people HAVE received some, but plenty others have not - especially those (like me) who had bundles.
Tumblr media
Now, I'm not sure how much I actually believe this given that this bomb was dropped after months of near silence and the very rare occasional update.
I just said this but I'll say it again: I'm not sure where to begin because this is a fucking mess. So I guess I'll just start listing the issues first and foremost.
Issue A: Progress was routinely lied about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are exact screenshots from the twitter. We were told directly that EVERYTHING was being made and everything was on track.
And then came the first delay.
Now I'm like most people, I realize things happen. Just because there's one delay doesn't mean it's the end of the world. Sometimes things take longer to manufacture, sometimes they take longer to ship, sometimes there's an issue in quality and you need it redone. Hey, the world isn't perfect and neither are we. I didn't think too much of it.
So it was pushed off, Etsy gave a notification to review and did it's usual notification where it'd ask you to report if you have any issues. I, in good faith, didn't refund it. Because I figured that doing so would yank the rug out from underneath and could cause issues when it came to production and shipping. I had faith.
Then, November rolled around. Then December. January. February. Updates were sparse, they seemed to be getting merch in and together. This should've been more of a red flag, comments asking seemed to be met with general reassurance that it was still happening. Not really specific but still at least trying to say it would happen which started to get fishier than a sardine factory.
The fact that it was pushed off from November/December and now we're in May and only SOME people are getting merch speaks volumes.
But you want to know why I'm really questioning this?
Etsy's policy for refunds is, drum roll.... 180 days. Just about six months after an initial purchase.
And guess what time line that aligns with?
Oh, right. Exactly. It aligns EXACTLY solidly past with what we're being told and when. Which means refunds are basically on "if I have the money and if I'm able to get it and you'll have to take my word"
Disputing with the bank may also not work because for many, this is WAY over the time to dispute charges. It goes for Etsy, it goes for the bank, and credit cards which were purchased on. Basically, it gives a "you're shit out of luck amigo" level of time.
FOR THOSE WHO ARE HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING A CHARGE BACK FROM THEIR BANK, here's the information on how to file a fraud report, including for Non-US residents! https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/faq
(Including this because Micky basically fucked us every which way here by waiting out the period and I do not think this was anything but intentional)
Which screams that this was planned beyond planned because you cannot look me in the eyes and tell me that someone was dead silent on a project for months where they lost all the money because they were embarrassed alone.
Especially when the community, the artists, the mods, were incredibly amazing and VERY supportive. Hell, one artist who I've extensively bought merch from before even confirmed they'd have helped and would have tried to get shit figured out! Because that's the kind of people they are. They want to help, they understand things happen, they wanted everyone to get what they ordered as this is a passion project for them too. The point is, the mods would've at least had a plan and so much could've been avoided.
It all aligns far too suspiciously. Embarrassment? Like this isn't more fucking embarrassing? Like this isn't humiliating and stressful beyond admitting to your mods you fucked up and finding out a game plan instead of remaining radio silent?
Oh, by the way
THE ETSY SHOP IS CLOSED which makes it even harder by the way.
Yep.
Closed.
You can't leave a review. You can't comment. You can't do anything aside from hope Etsy might take your side, but after it's been this long, it's very unlikely to happen.
Issue B: They lied about donating the money to charity (allegedly).
I'm only saying allegedly because I do not have a screencap from the discord, seeing as I'm not on it, but I was told by someone who was in there that they were all told that the money raised for two charities was donated in December. I'm taking their word that they were told it was already donated.
Either way, point being, the proceeds were SUPPOSED to go to two charities.
Tumblr media
And this wasn't a little pittle of money, oh no. This was supposed to be a big amount
Tumblr media
And now that's most certainly not happening.
The entire reason I felt GOOD about getting literally everything (I mean I saved for the everything bundle, I went to the T-shirt and hoodie, I even BOUGHT RAFFLE TICKETS and won one of the prototypes for fucks sake) was because any profit was going to worthy causes. The profits weren't supposed to be lining anyone's pockets, it was supposed to be going to two very worthy charities that are helping actual people in need who could desperately use it.
(Linking to the charities right here BTW)
Care for Gaza
Stonewall Scotland
This massive amount of money was supposed to go there and yet now that's not going to happen because even the books can't be produced. The very core of it.
And (allegedly) they said that it had already been donated.
I cannot express how fucking furious I am that someone would do something so vile as LIE ABOUT DONATING TO A CHARITY THAT'S HELPING PROVIDE AID IN AN ACTIVE GENOCIDE
Let that sink in. Let that stew.
That's what Micky fucking lied about. That's where the money was supposed to go. And now? Now that won't ever come close. I'm furious, insulted, and a list of fifty other million things that will have me foaming at the mouth if I think of them.
How can you be so low as to LIE about that? To lie about giving money to those in need? To fuck up the funds that badly? I would say I have no words, but I do. Just right now, all of them would rightfully have to be censored for how fucking deplorable this is.
Issue C: The money not being in a separate account
Okay, so I'm no expert financial advisor, but I'm going to lay out what has to happen and what SHOULD happen for any project (especially a collaborative one)
Whenever a project is supposed to take place, money SHOULD be set aside in a separate account. This money is placed there because it's for that project, for that project alone, and shouldn't be touched. This is how things are funded. People gave you the money for something to be done, you put that money aside, you use that money and withdraw it when time comes to pay for production or whatever else that needs to be done.
It's in a separate account because that's not meant as YOUR money. Not until a project is done, and most certainly not to be lumped in with everything else. After all, you need to keep invoices and have your ducks in a row - especially when it's a massive amount and it comes time to do taxes. That streamlines it and is vital. It helps determine what expenses went where and is how you remain transparent.
Now, how a debit card works is that it's pretty much always automatically tied to a checking account. It will always pull money from said account when you use it. That's the basis of it and why it's not a credit card.
That means that all of the money was tied to a debit card and this card was GIVEN TO SOMEONE for use other than for the project. This was a debit card that was somehow casually used several times until the money was gone.
Now, I'm really calling bullshit or that's extreme money mismanagement. Because anyone who has run any business or project will tell you: Business funds separate, you do NOT mesh them with personal. That's not your money to use.
HOW was the money used on medical bills like that and that easily when it should've been in a separate fund?
Why was it tied to that debit card? Why was that casually carried around? Why was that given to someone who had no ties to the project?
And what would have been done if that money wasn't there? That's my question too.
The money wasn't handled properly and it resulted in it being GONE. Medical bills are an absolute bitch and a half and yeah, the American healthcare system sucks major sweaty donkey balls, but that's not what the money was for.
Sorry, that might come off as harsh but it's the truth. That money is not for personal use. You took on a project, you committed to it, you spent the money on something that wasn't that. Regardless of the cause, cause I'm not going to dig and debate on how true the medical stuff is, what happened is
The money isn't there and the money was used for something other than it's intended purpose - the money people GAVE to fulfill a project that they were eagerly waiting on, and plenty worked hard for.
That's fraud. Flat out. Shit happens but that's not shit happening alone. That's basic fraud. Wrongful deception that resulted in financial gain. And considering the fact that we were lied to for months, it easily falls under that definition.
Oh, also mentioning that this isn't a small amount of money given. Considering the donations were close to $7,000 USD, much MORE was taken in for everything - but that means that well over $7,000 was spent because that part was meant to be donated and yet there's still no money for the Zines.
I'm going to have good faith and will go with the merch is mainly done, because some people have gotten packages and received some. Maybe that's misguided, maybe I'm a hopeful cunt, but pics HAVE been shown of merch and some people have received them.
Point still is - the Zine isn't here. The physical version? Non-existent. We were lied to for MONTHS that it was under production and all was well.
The donations? Spent. Gone. Over $6,000 USD. There's no money left to produce the Zines. Money? Tied to a debit card and used on personal expenses.
Now I'm not entirely heartless, medical situations can put anyone in a hard place, but medical issues do not excuse misusing money given to you for something you PROMISED, a project you voluntarily took on, and lying for MONTHS on end until no one could get a refund without basically having to go to the god damn government to fist fight for it.
You cannot use money that's not yours for things that they're not for. End of story. Doesn't matter what happens, doesn't matter how valid the claims are or not, using money for what it wasn't intended for for your own personal sake is TEXTBOOK FRAUD.
This harms literally fucking everyone involved.
Obviously, the charities that the money was supposed to go to. Lying about giving money to charity is a low, promising to do it and using it on yourself for any reason is LOW. I'm sorry, I felt comfortable giving money because I knew profit would go to help struggling queer people and people victims of a literal genocide, not go towards one person in particular. That's disgusting, deplorable, and I've got no amount of bad words I can string together because nothing comes close to the hatred and vitrol I feel right now.
The artists who worked VERY hard on this and bless them, MANY ARE RELEASING THEIR ART AND STORIES FOR FREE ON THEIR PLATFORMS AFTER THESE EVENTS, now have this tied to their name through no fault of their own. This is a project that was a first for many of them - a first chance to see their art in a project, their first collaboration, their first time to get their art published and to feel it in their hands. And this is the thanks they get after being the backbone. The fucking disregard to these lovely people who were the backbone of the project and the only reason why it exists is appalling. To go radio silent on them, on the mods who HELPED, and to steal money out from under everyone is appalling, disgusting, and deplorable. They worked so damn hard on this and for many, this may be a reason why they never do a zine again, because it's that awful.
This is something that ties their name to a project that's now experiencing major drama and scandal. And if someone doesn't look into it, they might associate them with that, they might not buy from them (gods I hope that doesn't happen because they do not deserve this or any flak) - you're harming their livelihoods, their career, and are smearing mud on their reflections.
Here's a list of the artists who took part for anyone interested and PLEASE PLEASE support them if you can, even if it's only a like or reblog! Many are releasing their works to the public and all have been affected by this clusterfuck. They're absolutely amazing and have made beautiful pieces. I cannot say it enough that they've done wonderful work and deserve every bit of positive recognition outside of this fuckery.
This, naturally, financially harms the people who PAID for this. Me personally? I fucking saved for this and now I'm not sure I'm even going to get the basics of what I got. I spent about $400 USD which isn't anything light, this isn't chump change, or something I toss around likely. I know I'm lucky to even have that much but Christ on a cracker, I love Soap so much and thought it was going to good causes, I feel fucking sick knowing it didn't. I'm holding out hope that the mods can arrange something - I'll take what I can get, but I'll go fight tooth and nail for a refund if I don't.
Not blaming the mods either as this harms them like a grenade to the nads. They DID NOT KNOW, I'm stating this again, THE MODS TO THIS PROJECT WERE UNAWARE OF THIS RUG PULL. THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE, THEY'RE HANDLING THE FALLOUT. They're doing the best they can but I'm not counting on miracles. After all, they've basically been woken up to being told ON FUCKING TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM "oh the money is gone I spent it. gonna try to get money for the zines sorz". My lord, I can't even imagine how awful I'd feel and the panic. Because now they have to scramble and run around like chickens with their heads cut off because they were thrown a flashbang of fuckery and now?
Micky disappears for the weekend.
That's really the icing on the cake.
Health issues or not, you can't drop this massive fucking nuclear bomb after months of near radio silence and then go off for the weekend and leave your mods to deal with that.
"I am doing everything in my power to rectify this situation"
HA
Bull. Fucking. Shit.
If you were, you wouldn't be leaving your mods for the weekend. You'd actually be addressing comments and concerns. You wouldn't be making MORE EMPTY PROMISES.
I'm not believing one word that comes out of Micky's mouth because I did before and look at where that got me. I'm not going to take the word and value of someone who says they'll refund after purposefully lying for MONTHS and waiting out the period that Etsy and most credit card companies will refund for.
If you wanted to do everything in your power, you'd not offer more hollow promises, you'd offer complete financial transparency, you'd actively START getting your ass to work on this instead of dropping a statement, saying three things, and scampering off.
If you were doing everything in your power, we wouldn't be here, now would we?
Leaving now is telling not only me that you don't give a fuck and you don't respect the situation, but you do not respect the very people who made this possible and helped you EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
I'm irate, I'm furious, I'm so pissed off that I took a step back into the fandom and clawed my way out of the coffin where I buried myself for this.
You lied to me, you lied to the artists, the writers, the mods, the charities - to EVERYONE involved. You kept us all in the dark, you took our money and hard work, and spit in our face. And you go off for a god damn weekend after ripping out our hearts and trust alike, and leave them to clean up the mess you made for your own selfish sake.
Soap wouldn't fucking want this. Not for his memory to go down like this.
What a god damn sick way to "honor" it and to pretend like you care. Fictional character or not, he's my absolute favorite and means the world to me. If it weren't for him and COD, honestly I wouldn't be going down the career path I am, I wouldn't have the future I do. And I took a leap of faith because I wanted to support the community, I wanted to support the artists and writers who pour their heart and soul into what they do. I wanted to honor the silly fictional mohawk man who meant so much to me who, as stupid as it sounds, changed my life.
And this is the thanks we get for the community who supported you, who trusted you, who believed in you, who waited so patiently for this, who wanted to do something good not only for themselves but everyone around them, who were excited for this - who dared to hope for the best.

Celebrating Halloween with the TF141 Men
Happy Halloween!!! 🎃👻 My absolute FAVORITE holiday so you know I had to do this because SPOOKY TIME HELL YEAH
Captain John Price
He's never really been one for it or most holidays. He's usually far too busy to celebrate them and days fly by without him realizing. They're usually something that sneak up on him, seeing as he is preoccupied most of the time and the last thing he's worried about is partying or doing something special
He only really notices it because Halloween has mainly been his busy holiday, especially for more messy missions or times when he needs Intel. In countries that celebrate it, it makes for an extremely easy get away and is a great opportunity to be less covert and more direct. Man covered in blood? Which? Everyone is, it's Halloween. People can look at a corpse and wouldn't even question it, they'll just think it's really good special effects. The screaming? Oh don't mind that, just a soundtrack :)
He's not one who exactly celebrates it in a traditional way. He never really had the time for that - for sitting down and handing out candy or dressing up. That's too much time out of his day and he usually doesn't have that luxury - nor does he feel its sensible. He's far more on the side of tricks over treating, or going to Halloween events instead of participating individually
On Halloween, it's pretty much a guarantee he's going to pull something or do a relatively harmless prank. He's got quite the sense of humor underneath his stern facade. It's usually something harmless like "Did you see the leek in the bathroom?" And as you investigate, it's a literal leek (the vegetable) and he's holding back laughter
If you try to one-up him, he'll just come back stronger next year. You'll be playing a dangerous game but it should always be expected. His team learned that the hard way. It doesn't help he can get others in on it
That doesn't mean the day is without treats. If it matters to you, he'll happily take you to a party or any Halloween themed event that you want to go to - his only thing is that he won't host those, too much clean up and headaches as far as he's concerned
He'll only dress up if you pick out the outfit. It's nothing personal, it's just not something he's particularly interested in, but he will happily oblige. He usually thinks most costumes are a bit ridiculous but what's the harm of getting in the spirit? Besides, it's very much worth it to see you smile
It's hard to get him to slow down and enjoy things like holidays, but with you by his side it feels a lot more natural. He's a stubborn man stuck in his routine of all work, little play, sometimes he needs someone to boot him out of it and get him to live a little. It's difficult yet he'll always make it worth it
No matter what you decide to do or where you go, he'll be holding your hand, keeping you close to him. His attention will always fall right back on you throughout the night, no matter what else is going on. Whether it's watching a scary movie or hanging out at a bar hosting a costume party, he'll always be turning to you
Having someone like you by his side is really what he needed to remind himself that he is human too and anchors him onto the humanity he can scarcely find some days. It's easy to forget the smaller things in life unless you have that within your reach. When his day is all weight-of-the-world stakes, he sometimes loses the smaller picture. Seeing your smile is a reminder of what and who he is fighting for, and why he must keep doing it
He'll be holding you a bit closer, his gaze lingering more so than usual, and the lines around his eyes will be that much softer as he steals yet another glance at you. Halloween might be a night of frights but the scariest thing in that moment would be spending another minute without you :)
Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley
It would honestly be weirder if he didn't like Halloween. He's dressed like a damn skeleton year round and you can't tell me he doesn't play into the bit (it would be absolutely hilarious though if he just dressed like a regular guy on Halloween. That's a real scare amirite)
He actually wasn't a fan of it growing up, mainly due to the association with all the frightening outfits and his brother Tommy taking the opportunity to up the ante on scaring the living daylights out of him. But now that he's reclaimed the mask and his brother has long been gone, it's a bitter sweet thing and one of the few things that actually help him remember his brother in the best way (seeing as they repaired their relationship when they were older)
Except the difference is Halloween is meant for plain ol' good scary fun. The kind where people can opt in if they want to participate. He's not looking to create traumatic experiences or give someone a bad association, he would rather not pass his own childhood on in that way
That being said, Ghost isn't one to go out and actively wander around or party. He's still his usual introverted self. No holiday will ever change that for him
He still decorates for it, he's having fun with it because it ties right into his aesthetic. Spookiness is literally in his name. He will mainly decorate with skeletons and skeletal animals doing goofy things - it's different each year. The cowboy skeletons were a hit, as was the undead petting zoo, full of those anatomically incorrect skeletons
Yes, all the skeletons DO have names. And yes, they're all puns - he finds them humerus ;)
His ideal Halloween is more of a classic night in. He will still dress up to hand out candy, but also he is spending most of it by your side for a slasher movie marathon. Spending time with those he values on arguably his favorite holiday is his preferred way to celebrate
And yes, he usually will dress to match the part. Most years his costumes are reflective of said slashers or notorious movie killers. He has the right build and stature to make for an utterly killer Jason, Mike Myers, Ghostface - you name it, he probably has a costume for it
He personally loves old slashers because of how bad most of them are, they have a sort of nostalgia to them that he likes. If you're not able to watch those or are too squeamish, he will happily put on other genres of Halloween movies
Anything stop motion is usually fair game! But if you'd rather watch a TV show instead, he won't contest. The Twilight Zone is a classic series OR you can even watch those Halloween baking shows
He will get ridiculously invested in them if you do. Prepare to watch the entire season that night if you make that choice, and he WILL have commentary (Lemon curd? Really? Everyone knows raspberry pairs better with it and it's Halloween themed. Why aren't you making it bloody??)
Usually he isn't much of a candy eater, but he naturally has a fair Halloween stock so feel free to swipe some if you're feeling up for it. He's more of a baked sweets kind of guy, which he has absolutely made SURE to stockpile with other snacks and drinks for your movie marathon. Naturally he makes sure to have your favorites there too, that goes without saying
You won't have to get up to answer the door if you don't want to, he will happily do it. He is, however, never going to be the person to just leave the bowl outside. Halloween being his favorite holiday means he IS participating to some degree. It brings him happy memories. He usually isn't gone for too long, though. After all, he can't miss his favorite scenes (or his favorite person for too long )
Expect to spend most of the night bundled under a fluffy skeletal patterned fleece with all the movies (or shows) you pick all that much more interesting with his commentary, his arm around you. He won't mind if you fall asleep like that or hide into him if it gets scary - don't worry, he's the only ghost you'll have to worry about
Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick
If you want someone to have fun with and truly celebrate, he is absolutely your guy. He loves Halloween, mainly because it's a great community holiday and is one of the few that's not centered on familial stuff or love alone
Not to mention, he has good memories of Halloween growing up. He remembers being a kid once, wanting to dress up and be his favorite super heroes and the fun that came with it. He wants to be one of those people who absolutely made kids' nights with a generous bounty of candy, the same way that others did for him
He prefers decorating with a more retro vibe. Modern decorations just don't cut it for him and he feels they don't have the same magic. Call him particular but he finds far more charm in the older decor than the new cheap stuff. Anyone can get the newest trendy thing but that display? All vintage (he's got great taste)
He is ALSO the one who has the king size candy bars and the GOOD stuff. He's also considerate - he accounts for kids with peanut allergies and has a trinket bowl they can pick something from if they can't have candy or just want something a bit different!
He absolutely lives for seeing all of the costumes and the creativity that goes into them. He's already looked up the hottest outfits and media so he can know just how to compliment them to make them smile.
He's 110% enlisting your help to pass out the candy and to keep things going. He needs someone to keep him company through the chillier part of the night and someone to talk to, not to mention - he needs a distraction
It's trick or treating - what would it be without a bit of a trick? Granted, he waits til the later part of the night when the older kids are roaming and darkness has fallen. He loves laying in wait in a ghillie suit. No one sees him until it's too late and he's popping up, scaring the living daylights out of them
He's in his element there. Stealth, using his great sense of humor, and having fun? Yeah, he's having a great time. And he'll make sure you are too. You're welcome to join him in his endeavors. He's got a second suit somewhere - you can both surprise those who try and swipe a whole candy bowl they think was left unattended
Needless to say, they learn their lesson fast. It takes everything in him to hold it together and keep a stern face as they slink off. The second they round the corner, he's cracking up. Works every single time - and he changes locations and tactics each year, good luck
He's got enough candy to go around and in the quiet moments, help yourself, he'll enjoy some right by your side too. Have to keep fueled up for the night ahead. He'll make sure you're staying warm (or cool, if the climate happens to be miserable this time of year) and will be happily tell you scary stories if you feel so inclined to listen. He has plenty in store that he learned from when his siblings were little - and ones his older brother told him too
There's many things that can haunt you in this world, and before the night is up you'll be adding his laugh or the warmth of his hands adjusting your costume, letting his touch linger for a bit longer than normal - in the best way, of course ;)
Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish
Contrary to popular belief, holidays or celebrating them aren't particularly his thing. Like Price, he's usually quite work focused and can be a bit too absorbed in it for his own good. He didn't become the youngest member of TF141 for nothing, this man has dedication
He's still very much learning the balance between work life and personal, it's a thin line he tends to forget about because of how driven he is. Usually all he needs is someone to instigate, maybe distract, and get the ball rolling. He'll be all for it after a nudge in the right way
Like anything he does though, when he commits he COMMITS. He's going all out. He's particularly fond of the artistic aspect of most costumes and having fun with it. It's the one time of year you can wear nearly whatever you want and no one will (particularly) judge you for it
If you want to do a couples costume or duo's costume, he's your man. He's pulling out all the stops for it. He's actually got a decent eye for the arts and he CAN sew. It's a practical skill and it's made him plenty of friends (especially with those who are a bit too big for their uniforms, or who are accident prone and seem to wear holes into their gear like it's their job)
Just say the word or idea and he'll be right on it, looking into inspiration and doing what he can to put it together. He'll even do the SFX makeup if you want (he's seen enough gore that he'll be able to get it right, trust him on that)
If you go to any event, you'll probably win the costume contest. He's putting in all the details he can. Or he can keep it low-key, if you'd rather not have the attention and just want to have fun. Either way, he'll be matching your energy and vibe
He's not really going to want to spend the night passing out candy alone. Sure, you can do some of that - but it only comes once a year. Why not take advantage of the spookiness and the ambiance of the holiday? He'll be the one who would rather attend things like haunted houses, even if they are ineffective against him - he'll spot most scares from a mile away. At least it's fun to see them try, most times he'll just stand and stare or even laugh if they try really hard. Luckily, it means he'll protect you
Another option is ghost hunting, and he doesn't just mean chasing after ghost. He's all for ghost tours or going to abandoned places to see what all the fuss is about. Don't worry, he can keep you safe. He knows how ghosts work, after all, he works WITH one. It might be eerie but it'll be a Halloween you won't forget
If you really, really don't want to go - he'll settle for one of those fright nights that they have at some amusement parks or other local places where you can opt out of the scares. As long as he gets to do something with you and have fun while the night lasts, he'll be happy to do it
The night will likely end with you both nearly passed out on the couch, costumes half thrown off as you sprawl over each other, with some B-grade cheesy horror movie running in the background. Though you're both so tired after all you did so it doesn't really matter what's on or what monster or ghost they're talking about. After the night you've had, you're the only boo he cares about
BONUS
König
For some context, he never grew up WITH Halloween. As in, it wasn't really celebrated or much of a thing in his hometown, aside from maybe a few gimmicky commercial things. With him being so far away from others and growing up in a rural community, it wasn't ever really a choice. His parents certainly weren't participating nor would he
He was made aware of it in school but it never particularly appealed to him or was an idea that crossed his mind. He simply shrugged it off most years or downright ignored it. He didn't see why it would be something he would celebrate or participate in himself - interacting with strangers and loud children to give them candy? No thank you. That was until you came around.
Truth be told, he didn't really exactly see the appeal of Halloween. He's surrounded by death, skeletons, and gloom all day - why would he want more of that? Plus, children these days have too much candy, all that processed crap can't be good for them. He's someone who has to be convinced and have it shown from a different point of view. Such as the aspect of being able to be whatever you want to be for a night and not having others judge you for it, but rather encouraging it
Now THAT appeals to him. Despite the fact he's got his social anxiety under control in an iron clad grasp, the trauma of his childhood and being targeted for being different - for simply being himself still have lingering effects to this day. The idea of potentially being accept for just being himself is still something he struggles with and is part of why he's so closed off. Having an entire holiday where people can be who they want, dress up like who they want to be, and have fun with it is greatly appealing
He'll take some time to get used to it but you'll have to get him out there for him to truly feel the spirit(s) of it. He's someone who needs some push when it comes to social things or holiday events to get out of his comfort zone. Just get him to wear a mask (easy, seeing as he does that all day when he's at work), throw on a jacket, and take him out by the hand and show him the wonderful things of it and he WILL warm up
Seeing all the kids having actually happy childhood moments, laughing and running with their peers in ways he could have only dreamed of when he was their age, softens something inside of him
And it only works more when they don't look at him in fear or cower but rather in awe, because he's a big guy - he knows it. And in a costume of any kind, he blends right in and is JUST who kids want to see on Halloween
The blow that finally struck through right to his heart was when you took him by the hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze as you walked with him down the street to take a look at all the decorated houses as trick or treaters ran about. The warmth he felt wasn't just from you being tucked against his side, but rather deep within as you smiled up at him and asked what he would like to be next year. It's not from you being physically there with him alone, it's from the fact you cared enough to BE with him and to show him what he was missing far beyond the surface level alone. It's the fact you even bothered to try and the fact you cared about him enough to try and bring him some joy in a usually bleak world
That's all he needs to hear to already be planning it out in his head as his face flushes. Thank goodness he's wearing the mask. He certainly doesn't know himself but he does know one thing - it's going to be a couples costume. And he's going to be celebrating with you :)

R.I.P my power fantasy 😔 who would have figured the huge military man wouldn't spare me just because I was nice to him once /j and by unexpected I mean totally expected lmao 😭
Rest in pepperoni indeed (with extra cheese) 🍕
I mean... He did spare you, technically. Brought you to a medic and didn't end you - unlike many others he came across. König isn't really used to people actually being nice to him or being genuine about it without wanting something out of him. So it's why he shows mercy, just that once, and doesn't kill you or leave you to rot - because you were kind to him without any expectations. You showed him kindness so he's doing the same. An eye for an eye. Otherwise, if it were just a normal enemy - he would. It's a one time thing and an exception though. If you go against him again, there's no saving you. He won't hold any punches because of how he feels
I always try to stick with the most realistic versions of how I see them (unfortunately or fortunately, take it as you will) because I can't really stand the level of OOC things I see all the time in the COD fandom
I mean write whatever you want, indulge in however you want, you only have one life - live it! Life is too short to worry about others. It just irks me personally to see their characters usually reduced to fawning over a person or acting wayyyy out of character for it
Your best bet of getting anything more than plopped into a medical tent when you're on the enemy side after a single nice interaction - that would be with Gaz. My man has the strongest moral compass and constantly is treading the line between what he has been told to do verses his feelings on it. He's got far more humanity than most of the others and wants to be the positive change in the system which they work it. Not to mention, dude is crazy strong, he can haul you there no problem and get you out of harms way
I mean even then he's probably making sure you'll be okay before he too has to rush off because wars don't pause when one soldier is hurt. He may check on you later but seeing as you're an enemy, it's unlikely
Price would literally just leave you for dead in the same position, Ghost too. Soap might move you out of the way of harm but that's it - if he isn't hellbent on the mission and too far gone there
They are really not these sweet puppies or lapdogs - they're just doing their job and trying to save the world, no matter who gets in the way. And if you happen to be against them, that's too bad but they're not going to change their heart or mindset for a few hours of friendship

Ooh angsty though
König sees Y/N on the battlefield but they got injured :( they r unconscious and he's the only person who can help them oh noooo hopefully he still remembers them from the aquarium meeting
Unless you're on his team or a civilian, sorry to be a prime bubble burster, he's going to be getting you to medical and that's about it. Work mode König is not merciful nor kind - especially if you're against him and helping would go against HIS team and their mission. Technically, he should end you if you're fighting his team because letting you live can mean they too are downed (plus, you wouldn't have seen his face then. Wouldn't know it was him for certain and your goal likely is to kill him)
Usually enemies are killed on sight but he still has some humanity within him. Some. Your brief moment of connection would be enough to save you from turning into a fine red mist and a pile of meat which is more than most can say. Plus, he's above killing someone who is unconscious anyways - unless they're the prime goal
He's still a PMC and a job is a job. Realistically, talking to you for a bit and opening up some isn't enough to pull him from that - especially if you stand between him and his goal. I mean, that's literally his job and when you're armed, you are just as likely to take him down too or one of his team mates. The world is a bitch and kill or be killed is how it goes, he knows that all too well, and a moment of weakness or hesitation is "How to end up dead 101". It's why he keeps his personal life seperate and how he's been able to be the top contractor that he is

Convinced in most of the COD media (fandom and otherwise) that they've replaced Gaz with a cardboard cutout or a singular stock photo and no one has said anything
(seriously where is all the Gaz content??? Where's all the love??? It's like he's not even there. Even on the COD merch store, the poor guy doesn't appear on more than a single shirt. Like he's missing from the TF141 ones. All of them. Please I'm starving over here someone throw me something the acknowledges him and his actual extensive characterization instead of reducing him to just being pretty)

I don't think they'd meet much on the battlefield but imagine if they did. This also isn't at all how it'd actually go but what if the world was perfect actually and nothing bad ever happened?
König: 🧍
Y/N: 😦
Y/N: Oh my god 🫵 you're the guy who wouldn't shut up about the seals! (Affectionate)
König: No- you must have me confused!
Y/N: BULLSHIT! The balkan seal is the only freshwater seal in the world
König: NO IT ISN'T- ah scheiße
Y/N: I fucking knew it
😭 he would just deny it's him and pull the "Don't know you/Don't know what you're talking about"
I mean you're clearly confusing him with someone else. See, he has a mask, you don't know his face, and... Okay maybe uncanny stature resemblance but you've got the wrong guy-
(His battle persona is also VERY different from how he normally is. He even sounds different but that's mainly adrenaline and having to yell most commands over gun fire. He's absolutely ruthless, extra, and you better pray you're not in his way)

Be careful there, too much dad jokes and you'll end up summoning ghost
What a haunting revelation
Surely would be a shame if I continued.... Definitely don't want to.... BOOst my chances. But I can't waste the whole skeleTON I do have
Do you know why ghosts don't like being caught in the rain? It dampens their spirits
Have you heard about the ghost chef working at the new restaurant? He makes great soul food
What's a ghosts favorite drink? Boos
Why couldn't the skeleton ride the roller coaster? He didn't have the guts
(I'll be here all night. I know, they're spooktacular)

Y/N: Why'd ya run off 👁️👁️
König: Where did you come from???
Y/N: Don't worry about it. Not ready to meet the family yet then? No worries, we can take things slow
😭
He's just disappearing before they can put two and two together. You won't even know why he's suddenly in a rush to head off. (Faking an emergency always worked wonders in the past and he's doing that again)
Whale, it is really important. He can't be shellfish and stay, as much as he wants to. Otherwise it would get eely bad fast

I need König to know that there are 6ft tall otters. I need him to know that
That's one of the few other facts he's getting to know
I mean - hard to deny it when they're right there 🦦 fun fact: echnically they're not that tall! Not even when they stand on their hind legs, that's their head to tail length so that's including that part! Not just them standing
They're still huge but a bit shorter than people think when they hear that. And they're certainly a lot bigger than the otters you might see at zoos or wildlife centers because they need a LOT of room
There's so many variations of so many animals it's insane
(Also the other otter facts are REALLY not so fun (otters can be SUPER mean and have a laundry list next to dolphins of terrible things they do) so we're just keeping the happy mental image intact and not telling him that. I'm doing him that solid because I sure wish I didn't know)

Soap: Uh, whatcha got there?
Y/N, holding König's hand: A smoothie A shark plushie 🦈 :]
😭😭😭😭 Poor guy is dipping out of there the SECOND he sees any of the taskforce. He can move surprisingly fast and silently for a man of his stature
"Not today, Satan. Not today."
He'll just go hide with the freshwater fish in the meantime. It's too much of a pain in the bass to deal with them or even have a second of confrontation. He's there for his day off too

Attending a Fantasy Ball with Captain Price and Ghost
Been seeing those events on my feed and they are SO sick and you know my first thought is always going to drift right back to the COD boys
(Disclaimer: I'm so sleep deprived this is all I could muster 😭 my life is wild rn)
Captain John Price
He's admittedly quite surprise you asked him to attend with you. After all, the captain isn't exactly known for his put-together manners and formality for those events. Sure, he's been to military ones - but those are full of people who he can shoot the shit with, who know him, and who know his mannerisms and are similar themselves. They're not civilians and they certainly are no strangers to his stories and well.... how he is
Price isn't, by any means, exactly plain crude or unput together. He's just rougher around the edges, more grizzled than his kind face lets on, and has far more bite to him than expected for those who don't know his background. He's pleasant company as long as you can handle his banter and gruffness, but he's not exactly the usual company for formal events for that reason. Plus, he's not exactly one to 'take it easy' or to actively go out to those events himself
But hey, if you're going out of your way to ask him, who would he be to deny? It's good to stretch his legs and attempt to be somewhat sociable with people outside of the unit and military alike. Not that it's exactly his cup of tea, but at least it's something to do and puts him out of his element in the best way. He's got to be able to navigate these things somehow and it gives him an opportunity to work on his people skills - and his ability to blend in
Besides, he gets to do it with a pretty thing on his arm ;) that makes it far more bearable. And he's spending time with you - surely it can't be that bad. You seemed to excited so humoring you is the least he can do
He actually has to look into the event itself to know what's expected - seeing as he's never BEEN to one of these things (he didn't even really know it was a thing either). It's not within his usual scope of hobbies or things he's used to, so he wants to go into it with at least half an idea so he's not fumbling through it. He's a captain, for Christ's sake, he still has a reputation to uphold. He's not one who likes being surprised. "Always be prepared" is something he absolutely takes to heart and it wouldn't be any different for this
He ends up going to Laswell to help get an outfit put together. He's a man of many things but fashion has never been his priority, he simply wears what's comfortable and what works. The last thing he wants to do is stand out like a sore thumb or embarrass you or himself. He knows Laswell has an eye for this thing more so than him, and asking her is his best bet (he'd never hear the end of it if he asked any of the boys)
In the end, he settled on a dark navy and black three piece suit. It's embroidered with starry accents - and a few rhinestones (courtesy of Laswell), with a few silver metal fittings to match. He isn't one to accessorize and grumbles when Laswell pins the brooches and chains on him, insisting he doesn't need all that, but the SECOND she turns her back he's checking himself out in the mirror.
John has never been a vain man but for once, he's actually fussing over his appearance, running his fingers through his short cropped hair and over his beard, trying to make sure he looks good from all angles. He might grouse on how he feels ridiculous and doesn't need to have all the glitz and bling, but there's something to be said about actually dressing up for once in his life
He's not wearing his boonie hat or his beanie, trust me, this means a lot for him not to do that. That might as well be the greatest testament to how much he cares for you
He's still wearing a bullet proof vest under it, though. Make no mistake. He's still locked, loaded, and yes, he's got a gun and knife to boot. You can never be too certain for things like this where he has no idea who is in attendance
He's not exactly sure how to feel about this whole thing but after getting ready, he's certainly feeling as confident as he looks. However, any thoughts about it or himself leave the moment he finally sees you
His world is full of gore, grit, and grime that it's easy to forget such beautiful things can exist. And he's not talking about your outfit choice alone as is, no. As pretty as that is, he's fixated on the small smile on your face and how almost bashful you seem under his scrutinizing gaze. He's never seen someone look so radiant
While he was so busy preparing for the ball itself, he forgot one crucial thing - that you were going to be dressed up too. It didn't register, didn't even come as something he'd think about until you're right there in front of him
Thank god his years of training meant he could keep a decent poker face even as his heart sputtered, but that didn't stop his eyes from falling all over you, before they're meeting yours. John has never been one to hold back, especially not with the words he says. "Don't you look absolutely ravishing, love." Is the first thing he says before he's slipping your arm in his, already leading the way
The second you get to the ball, he's already scoping out everything there is to it. From the people to the exits to anything that can be a threat. He's even holding you a bit closer to him as he takes in the environment, keeping you pressed to his side. Old habits die hard and he'll be damned if he doesn't use all he knows - especially seeing as you're right there at his side
There's the smallest bit of constant tension in his form as the weariness that never leaves his eyes lingers, but the moment he knows everything is secure, his attention is right back on you. Anyone else who wasn't close to him would miss the way his eyes soften around the edges, the ghost of a smile curling on the edge of his lips as he nods to the crowd, "Shall we?"
Seeing as he's very much here for you, he's letting you set the pace for the night and he's following suit. Want to dance? Lead the way - he's no master at it but he'll be happy to guide you to the rhythm. Want to socialize? He'll be there, hand on your hip, holding you close to him as you talk.
He'll always be keeping a look out, even if it's from the periphery of his vision. He'll stay relaxed as much as he can but with there being so many people and so much going on, his mind will always be in over drive. However, he'll still indulge, he'll still happily be as great company as he can as he keeps you on his arm or beside him
Speaking of, he's not letting you out of his sight. It's not that he doesn't trust you, it's that he doesn't trust others nor the event space itself. Did you see those windows? A sniper's dream - he would know. He feels better knowing you're nearby and he can grab you at a moment's notice
With him sticking near you, you're pretty much always going to have a hand on you. Whether that be on your back, shoulder, arm, hand, or knee - he's keeping you close. He'll back off if you say something but feeling you there grounds him in the moment. He's a bit more touchy-feely, and a whole lot more affectionate, but the environment calls for it, love (at least that's what he'll tell you)
Before the night is over, he WILL be pulling you in for at least a single dance. It's a ball, aren't you meant to do that? He didn't get all dressed up to sit on the sidelines. Doesn't matter if you're clumsy or uncoordinated, he's had worse than someone stepping on his toes
He'll take you by the hand, guiding one to his hip and clasping the other in his roughened, calloused palm as he intertwines your fingers. The lingering musk of tobacco clings to him, ever present despite the fresh cologne he wore as he pulls you into his chest. The hand lingering on the small of your spine sure feels far more intimate as you meet his gaze, the crinkle returning to the crease of his eyes as he leans in, his breath fanning against your ear as he whispers, "I can show you another kind of dance later"
His chest vibrates with the rich timbre of his chuckle against you, heady and rough much like the scent that clung to his clothes. Whether he was joking or not is hard to tell as he keeps you buried into the warmth and steady weight of his body, not letting you pull back as he slows his sway. But the way the hand on your back slips a fraction lower, his thumb tracing small circles, it sure doesn't feel like it. Nor does it as his lips skim the shell of your ear, his hand squeezing yours tighter in a silent promise.
Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley
He would also be incredibly surprised if you asked him to attend a ball. He's known for being the opposite of social and certainly won't make the acquaintanceship of most people, nor would he talk to them. He's "leave me alone" personified. Simon isn't one to go out in public just because he wants to or for frivolities. And he's most certainly not one to go out to big parties. They're too loud, too many people, and too much he can't count on
As much as the idea unsettles him and is out of his usual comfort zone, if you're asking him over the others, it's clearly for a reason. Maybe because you like him, maybe because you feel secure and safe around him (he's built like a brick shithouse, anyone would if he's on their side), maybe a bit of both. The point is you asked HIM, you actively want him to go with you, no mater how introverted he might be.
He'll begrudgingly agree after much deliberation. It's not an easy choice because he really doesn't like crowds or that level of people. He's had too many bad experiences with that and has worked his fair share of innocent events that turned south quickly. Even thinking about it puts him on edge. Anywhere with large groups of unarmed civilians has him instinctively alert, even if he knows nothing will happen.
However, you'll be there. It's just one night, and its high time he got to attempting to be slightly more social, even if it's only for a few hours. The regret of not going and of seeing the look on your face if he turned you down would be too much to bare. It sounds like you really want to go with him, already knowing how he is, which meant you likely wanted to spend the quality time together over focusing on the event alone. Passing that up is something only a fool would do. He only has so many people in this world left who matter and he'll be damned if he's pushing them away
He also knows you'll be considerate of him and his needs - otherwise, he would've never said yes, never let you close, and certainly never would have let you rope him into such a thing.
The concept isn't entirely foreign to him, he's worked at events like this and higher stakes events like formal balls and galas where important political figures attended. It's just he's never been to one himself. He never even went to a school dance. Simon has always been a bit of a loner and dances weren't something that appealed to him, not to mention the fact that he was never asked out. There's always a first time for everything
Much like Price, he too is researching - he's in the same boat of "Always being prepared". That means knowing the building, knowing the area, knowing the schedule of things, knowing WHO might be attending, and figuring out how he should be acting and dressing for this. Being certain of those things that he can know and control puts him in a more steady, prepared state of mind and gives him something to focus on. He'd rather know and be ready if things went south than be scrambling.
Believe it or not, he actually does have a fashion sense - he just usually doesn't choose to demonstrate it, since he's usually in work mode anyhow or in the privacy of his own home. He's also making his own outfit, seeing as finding his size isn't exactly an easy thing when it comes to formal wear. Most simply don't make things that suit his taste, build, and brawn alike. He KNOWS how to sew and will be using that to his advantage
Surprise surprise, he's wearing black. He knows it flatters him, it's his aesthetic, and it helps him blend in if need be. He'll settle on a black button down shirt, a black and gold jacquard vest, a matching tie, and slacks to tie it all together. That's not to say it's simple - please, he's added accents wherever he can, he's anything but a boring man. He's someone who has to add his own flair to it, whether that be the black embroidery on the silken sleeves, the lace trim, or the golden whorled accents creeping up on the edges of the vest of a shimmering thread, and the gold buttons and cufflinks holding it all together. He takes pride in how he appears
Naturally, he's also wearing a black tailcoat with the same accents, thank you very much. And of course, he's sporting a brand new skull mask. Seeing as this is a formal event however, he's traded in his trademark mask. He doesn't want to be recognized in that way. It's still very much a mask, granted, and it's still a skull. Not a humans though, he chose to model it after a badger's. It matches the whole outfit, being made of mostly black with gold etching painted along in a splintering pattern
And because he's extra, he had to get matching gloves with the same skeletal bone outline as his regular - however, this time it's in gold and tipped with short metal claws. He's going the extra mile if he has to go to this and he's making sure that he's looking like the absolute most while not drawing attention like a bad signal flare. He wants to look good for not only himself, but for you as well. After all, you asked him to be there - he's going to honor that the best he can and the privilege that that is
Similar to Price, he's also wearing a bullet proof vest underneath and is also carrying too. His beloved knives are coming along with, not that many people would notice until it's too late - if he had to use them, that is
Naturally, he knew you'd be dressing up too. He'd heard bits and pieces of what you'd wear, but nothing prepared him for the sight that greeted him. Nothing COULD have. Anything that had been in his mind paled in comparison to what he was witnessing in the flesh, his breath leaving him the second he caught the fading rivulets of the evening light on your form. He doesn't think that his battle-hardened, jaded mind could have come up with something even close no matter how hard it tried
For once, his mind fell silent, still, as his breath caught in his throat. Any possible thought escaping him as he froze, his deep brown eyes darkening as he stared. He couldn't help it - he was used to seeing dark nights, dark clothes, and even darker deeds. He wasn't used to seeing the equivalent of light incarnate, a beckon of warmth in his normally abyssal world
Thank goodness for the mask. He'd have been a goner without it hiding the shock on his face. It took everything in him to swallow, schooling himself back into his usual calm, resigned stoicism as you drew closer. "You clean up nicely," He mused, genuine but more bantery than what he wanted to say, "Not gonna give me a twirl, darling?"
He hopes that by masking it with his sense of humor, you wouldn't notice how his fingers twitched or how uneven his breathing suddenly seemed to be
His traitorous heart didn't calm until you finally arrived at the venue - not that he'd admit it or say anything out loud. Being there gave his mind a task, a purpose, something to focus on aside from how he faltered whenever he looked a bit too long, a certain warmth that was usually so foreign in his heart making itself known
He too is one who is figuring out all the exits, who is where, and what's going on. Vigilance doesn't leave him just because he's off duty. It's ingrained from how he scans the room to how he has a hand on you at nearly all times, never once losing track of you and refusing to break the contact he has (whether that be physical or even simple eye contact)
No matter what you do, he's hovering like the worlds most menacing shadow. He's never far or out of reach, unless maybe you're going to the bathroom. Even then, he's waiting outside of it, keeping an ear out and his eyes trained on the hall. He's not here because he wants to attend a ball, he's here for you
(Have to break this up due to the text block limit lmao)
He's a silent sentinel, only really talking to you, not even bothering to engage with others or entertain any of their notions. Small talk? Not going to be happening, he's going to put out his most disinterested expression and will keep to himself. If others are asking if he wants to join an event, he's declining unless you're the one saying yes. He's not there for the party, he's there for and because of you, and he's making that clear
Call it poor etiquette but he doesn't care when he's not there to make friends and he won't be seeing these people likely ever again. Manners never really were his thing. Besides, if they really wanted to be his friend, they'd read his vibe and promptly leave him be. He's much like a feral cat at times and needs space, he'll come to you if and when he's ready
You'll be the one leading and he'll simply be following, living up to his name as he haunts your every move. While he's not chatty to or with others, he's still very much himself around you. He's leaning over your shoulder to whisper a bad joke in your ear or a sly innuendo that'll have you flushed in no time, batting at his arms as he chuckles. You don't need to see his face to know the smile in his eyes or feel the rise and fall of his chest as he silently laughs at your reactions
As the night draws to a close, he'll take you by the hand with the excuse of needing to leave early to beat the rush of traffic of people who are about to leave. However, when the cool night air greets you, you're not met with a parking lot or being rushed to the car
Instead, he's stopping you almost abruptly when you're both standing in the moonlight, the motion causing you to fall right into his arms which suddenly bracket you against the cushion of his chest
The way his gaze softens is almost imperceptible underneath the shrouds of shadows cast by his mask, but you can feel it in his half-lidded stare and the tender way that he keeps you close, strength belied with how soft he held you
He doesn't say a word - remaining still enough in the moment that when he finally moves to cup your face, it feels as if it's happening in slow motion. You swear he's leaning down closer, closer, until - you feel the pad of his gloved thumb swipe at the corner of your mouth, Ghost mindful of the gilded claws just enough to barely scratch the surface of your skin in a way that has a shudder run down your spine. "You had a little something right there...." He murmurs, peering down at you through those pale lashes of his that seem even more striking against the moonlight. The small up-down shudder of his chest, despite the lack of noise that escapes him, tells you once again he's laughing. Bastard.

Aquarium Trip with TF141
Because I fish I could go with them lmao, assuming that it's a big group trip
Captain John Price
Ever the leader of the group, he's making sure that everyone is keeping their phone on vibrate or low volume so no one can end up being a straggler who they have to go on a man hunt for
He wants everyone to at least be able to enjoy themselves but he's not going to be chasing them down, desperately trying to find them in the crowd. Just occasionally check your phones and you'll be all set. He's still as observant as always, keeping an eye out and his head in the game, even if he's supposed to be "Relaxing". He's a firm believer in never being too certain or wary
The group trip was more or less mandated as a 'go do things as a group so you can stay sharp, actually use down time, and bond'. Also because Price was needing a break, as much as he said he didn't, and the only way to get him to take it is to force him out of the office
Admittedly he can't be too peeved when the others seem excited (minus Ghost but what can you expect), AND there are a bunch of cute fish and creatures alike to look at
He takes his time with the exhibits - he's stopping to read the cards and identify the fish and other critters. Pair up with him if you want to actually take a breath and enjoy the experience at a reasonable pace
He'll content to just follow in the footsteps of the others and enjoy the day as much as he can, for once, taking it as it is. It's nice to not have to constantly lead or direct when they're fine doing their own thing and he can do his
It's not often he gets any form of time off or relaxation so you bet your ass he's trying his best to do such and make the most of the day he was forced to take. It's a conscious effort, too. He's so used to being in work mode that shutting that off is near impossible
It's why he doesn't go alone and someone is ending up as his buddy. Having someone there to talk can help get him out of his own head and focus on the present moment. You may have to snap him out of it every so often as he keeps thinking too much, it's a habit
Not to mention he likes having somebody there to tell his stories to. Idle chatter helps distract and helps him get closer to those around him. He's well aware he's often work focused so it is quite needed to shift his attention to the human aspect of it. His humanity is often hanging on by a thin thread so doing what he can to reconnect is vital to keep his head screwed on straight and to remind him what he's fighting for
You'll likely end up with him, sitting and watching the ocean tank - full of fish and sharks alike. It's an ever changing environment yet repetitive all the same, it puts him at ease to simply watch. He's quite fond of the stingrays. They remind him of himself :) (as in they can be hidden in plain sight and can kill you in an instant)
Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley
Despite the fact he would rather not be out in public when possible, he didn't exactly protest the idea of the aquarium. Sure, it could be busy but that means he can walk off undetected and hide in whatever dark corner he so pleased until they were done. He was already planning that from the get go
Seeing as his father used animals to psychologically abuse him during his childhood, he's usually quite reluctant to be around them and usually isn't much of a fan. It's not that he hates them, he knows it isn't their fault, he's just... Weary.
He knows that they won't and can't do anything to him, especially behind glass, but there's always that nagging fear and persistent memories that haunt him that urge him to stick to the shadows and wait it out
He has a reason to avoid pretty much every tank. Eels? Like water snakes, too slimy. Jellyfish? Remind him of being stung on a beach off the Gulf of Mexico. Otters? He's sharing with you the unfun otter facts of what messed up animal stuff they do
Yes, he is an utter stick in the mud. He is well aware of that. But the fact that he's even there to begin with is significant progress. It's like voluntary exposure therapy - he's at least trying to work through it, bit by bit. Having the team there helps and they're aware of what is going on, so they simply give him the space he needs to work out his own emotions. No one is there to judge, they're just there to have fun
They all check in on him to see how he's holding up. You're absolutely welcomed to too, or you can spend some time hanging out with him, exchanging terrible fish jokes to help lighten the mood. Just don't expect to go around with him or have him follow through the exhibits
Simon knows he wanted to push past a barrier of some kind aside from simply being there, so he decided to pick a singular exhibit to actually visit on his own - it would be a way for him to reclaim some more autonomy and prove his thoughts and past couldn't get the best of him. Naturally, he picked the shark one
While he's well aware of the danger sharks pose, he's not actually had a bad experience with sharks... Yet. Their reputation is usually a lot worse than they are. Plus, you know exactly what you're getting into when it comes to them. You know what to expect. It's not like they're hiding their teeth or the fact that they're apex predators
He'll sit on a bench pressed to the wall, watching them idly swim about from a safe distance. He never said he was getting close, but watching them and not instantly being flung back to his worser memories is a HUGE step forwards. Instead, he's a bit more surprised at how he can actually enjoy seeing them move. Seeing such powerful creatures there in the flesh is so much greater than how they appear on TV or in books
Not that he'll admit it, but he relates to them. He too is an extraordinary killer, feared by most, yet understood by few. Many judge based on his appearance alone and misassume, when he's simply trying to live his life no matter the hand that's been dealt to him
He wouldn't protest if you sat with him and watched the sharks for a while in silence. For a man who isn't fond of animals, there's no denying the softness in his eyes as they swim past
Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick
You'll probably actually enjoy hanging around him the most, he's the best buddy to have for trips. He's pretty much following Price if he's not rushing ahead with Soap. He's a bit more mindful in the sense that he will pause and look back, even back tracking to rejoin if they were getting too carried away
He's not the most well versed in all animal facts but he will happily tell you some of what he knows as you pass the exhibits. Did you know most piranhas are actually herbivores? Not the ones you're looking at, those ones are carnivores, but most species are. They're usually quite harmless. Usually. Not during dry season but that's different-
He's quite happy to see a variety of wildlife, from the smallest coral to the hulking fish. He can't say he's exactly used to it or that he's one who keeps an eye out for those things, but it's nice to see. It at least allows him to get a look at things he may otherwise never see or experience
Learning about them is important too because what if he needs it one day in the field??? Being able to identify what's around him, including the animals, can be super helpful. He isn't going snorkeling or to a coral reef any time soon but still, just in case. Gaz is smart, he will ALWAYS take a learning opportunity when he can
He's the one who already has the itinerary for the day with all the shows and educational events, and you BET he is on top of them and is going to go see them all
Please attend with him - he's usually the one picked out of the crowd because he's got the perfect energy. Winning smile? Winning heart? Winning attitude? It's hard NOT to notice him. He already has bad jokes in store and can win over the audience too
You just have to be cool with sitting front row and potentially in the splash zone. He's not sitting in the back, who knows when he gets to do this next? Also, why would you not want to be up close?? You're at an aquarium, there's water, you're going to get wet - that should be PART of the experience
You're both probably going to get a picture with an otter before the day is done
As cool as the other animals are, he's absolutely a fish person. He thinks they're extremely underrated for what they are. There's SO many different kinds of fish and colors too! How can you NOT enjoy that?
He's spending extra time in the coral reef and the fresh water areas because he loves how immersive they are - and just how many fish they have swimming around without many other animals. It is a glimpse into a world we never get to see
He also loves the octopi and squid. Creatures that can camouflage and ambush??? Absolutely wonderful, as far as he's concerned. He loves how intelligent they are too and how underestimated they can be
Stick near him, you won't regret it. He's great company and can happily talk about the different fish all day - and maaaaybe will just revisit a few of the tanks he especially liked (he's already calculating how to get a beta fish by the time you get back)
Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish
To no one's surprise, he's leading the charge in. He is absolutely EXCITED about this. Cool animals??? A day with people who he cares about????? Sign him up
The group really just loosely follows him to start. He's got a solid game plan and is watching the crowd to see which is the least crowded area so that you can get the best view
Like I said, he's a man with a plan. Gaz might have the itinerary but he's the one scoping out the floor and already trying to figure out the game plan so you can stick together and see what you actually want to see
He naturally has a presence that can make others move out of the way. One look at extremely buff Scottish man who can have the meanest resting bitch face, and they'll move. That's not even including that you're being followed by three other not so short men. At least it makes for great crowd clearance and he knows it - and yes, he's using it to his advantage
Like Gaz, he too is reading the cards and is quite happy to learn about the creatures there. Not as thoroughly as Price, but he's still at least actively reading and trying to note things down in his mind
He's the one who makes the slightly inappropriate comments out of instinct, forgetting that there may be kids nearby. In his defense, he's not used to that - usually it's just adults. But he can't himself from going "Look of the size of that bloody bastard" while pointing at a grouper
His comments make for great banter, usually it's with Gaz - seeing as Ghost disappeared almost the second after they stepped in. "These little shits can function without a brain" - "Oh, so that makes the two of you :)" . It's like that the entire time, just a lot of back and forth - and yes, it's hilarious
He's not rushing through the exhibits but he certainly is sidetracked when there's so many things to look at and see. It's really a matter of what is catching his eye and why - there's so much to do and so many things he didn't know. It's VERY exciting for him in the best way
Whenever there's a creature he particularly admires, he'll actually stop and sketch it out, jotting down some notes about it in the margins of his sketchbook too. He brought a few colored pencils but it's really mostly just plain pencil
He's actually quite a good artist! As long as he has a wee bit of time to get the rough lines down, he can finish it off later really nicely. But he'd prefer to take his time. The aquarium is a great place for him to practice things like plant life and moving creatures
You're welcome to sit beside him and watch as he draws - or better yet, draw with him if you brought a sketchbook of your own. It fills in for some of the quieter time if you're blessed with a calmer exhibit. If you're lucky, he might even draw something so you can color it in as you wait for the group to catch up
Admittedly, he likes the piranhas. They're known and have a fierce reputation for a reason, but he in particular likes the shimmer of their scales and finds them to be under appreciated in that regard. He finds them beautiful and they're a lot more than their teeth alone
Naturally he also likes any otters or mammals too. He'll usually end up entertaining them, especially if they're seals - they're such funny creatures - they remind him of the seals he saw on the coast whenever he visited as a kid
BONUS
König
Seeing he isn't apart of the group, you'd actually run into him in NORMAL civilian style clothes (still wearing a surgical mask, albeit) if you wandered off on your own or got a bit too ahead - leaving the boys behind
Assuming that you don't happen to know him here, but it was at the seahorse tank. With the little seahorses clinging to the bits of plants that they had, here was this big guy with an utterly adoring expression on his face as he stared at them
He nearly jumped out of his skin when you made your appearance and commented about how neat they were
He couldn't help but to agree, they're such fascinating creatures and they're so tiny. It's a wonder how something that's the size of the tip of his finger can live like that
The whole reason he was at the aquarium was because he liked animals - and because his therapist recommended he get a bit more out of his comfort zone to further work on his social anxiety. Getting exposed to new environments at his pace would do him good in the long run. While he's been fine and can absolutely manage, he does want to push himself to come more out of his shell and to be more comfortable in his every day life. Plus, he has only one life, he needs to live it some
He also wasn't used to seeing so many aquatic animals - it would be something different, something that maybe could give him some ideas later down the line for some of his crafts. And it's a good reminder of how vibrant and diverse the world we live in is. It's easy to forget when you're surrounded by blood and gore all the time
Usually, people are quite intimidated by him, so he was surprised that anyone came up and even tried to say anything to him. But talking about seahorses and the other animals here was a LOT easier than talking about himself or anything else he usually had to default to
When you asked if he'd seen the moon jellies or the crabs yet, and he said no, how could you resist showing him right where they are and pointing them out? He'll love them! They're silly little guys like the sea horses
He's admittedly a bit flustered from the attention and having someone actually want to talk to him, but he finds it easier to open up and naturally when you're just... yourself. And clearly quite excited about being there - or more expressive of it than him
You sort of happen to end up walking along with him, chatting about all the different types of animals there are and what you like about them, or making comments about what they're doing and laughing about it
As awkward as he is - he's still got his sense of humor and charm about him underneath that you uncover as you get him to open up, even just a little bit
It's only when he sees your group at a distance and the recognition of who they are dawns on him . He backs away when you wave to them, making the connection. What a terrible coincidence - but the last thing he wants to do is create issues, especially when he's here to enjoy his day - and he's not wanting a fight, not right now. And especially not in civilian gear or in a place where they all can be banned from
(They do not get along in the slightest, trust me, it would not be pretty if they happened to put two and two together. There's not that many Austrians that tall who happen to have scars like he does)
He's back to making excuses as he back pedals trying to get out of sight before any of them see, but not before slipping you his number. After all, it would be such a shame to let such a good connection go to waste :)

thank you for camp au food 😈😈😈😈
You're very welcome 💚 I've been dead on main and haven't been able to actually write in forever but it's been rattling around in my head It's a very fun AU because they all can easily be around one another and actually have somewhat normal lives
There's usually this thing in camps where the campers will TRY to guess the names of the counselors since obviously, they're not using their first names. It's either super annoying or absolutely hilarious
Gaz will tell them a different answer every time, it gets progressively more ridiculous. Like: "Oh, it's Mort. Short for Mortgage." "It's Reg. Short for Register." "Cal, full name Calculus". No one believes him, so they gave up trying to ask. 10/10 strategy right there. He'll say it with a straight face too.
Soap thinks it is absolutely hilarious (it is) to tell them his name is just a variety of bad words in Scottish Gaelic. He's not once run into the consequence of this action or found anyone else who speaks it, surprisingly. So he's going to keep doing it. He thinks it's the absolutely funniest shit to have kids yelling such profanities at him and no one is any bit wiser (don't tell Laswell)
Seeing as Ghost isn't around and usually present, he wouldn't entertain the idea of such notions of finding out his name. He's a very private guy. So that being said - Soap and Gaz have convinced most his name is Dorkus. Actual name. He won't respond if you yell it because duh, it's such a silly name, he gets flustered - so don't even think of saying it to him. They also claim he's from Boston, but he's SUPER embarrassed about it which is why he's faking being British. He's not around to correct them so they're going to keep on doing it
They've ALSO convinced people that Price's real name is Eugene, as in Mr. Krabs' first name. "He changed his last name to Price because he loves money so much". Price has a sense of humor so they're not getting shit for it, but he IS planning a way to get them back. He's also never been more confused upon having so many people call him Eugene in a single day
Absolute shenaniganry is top tier and that's just the start

COD Camp AU Part Two
Follow up to this post
Just assorted characters who I have ideas for in it. And before anyone comes at me like "oh but but Graves tried killing them" or "König is apart of KorTac and they're enemies with SpecGru" I'm aware. This is an AU for a reason :D That doesn't happen here, I'm pretending like they're all not trying to kill one another and haven't because I can
Kate Laswell (Camp Advisor)
She's one of the few who doesn't go by her callsign. Instead she goes by Larkspur, her wife's favorite flower. She figured it was a little less creepy sounding to kids over "Watcher"
Kate can usually be found near Price or simply checking around camp herself. She's usually the one responsible for safety inspections and reporting anything that needs to be fixed officially
While she's not fond of it, she usually is the one handling all the paperwork and "official" boring things. It's not the most exciting job but someone needs to do it
That being said, she can make quick work of it. She's handled more complicated things in her life than the headache that is dealing with legal documents
She'd rather be out and actually active than stuck behind a desk all day. Which is why she does try to get around to all parts of camp. She's jumping in where she can and is quick to lend a hand where ever she is needed
All the campers love her. What's not to love? Sure she's a little bit intimidating at first but she's simply so used to having to put on a stern face to convey how serious she is and to please listen to her (dealing with stubborn operators and military personnel alike will do that to you) that by now, it's a habit. But she's understanding, empathetic, and proactive - she's trying to fix problems and prevent things from going south before they can
Since she's often popping in on activities, lending a hand, helping where she can - many campers easily recognize her and are usually quite excited to see her. Especially when it comes to things like team events (Listen to her, she WILL give you pointers to beat the other team) or crafts. Kate has a variety of skills up her sleeves and she's got a knack for showing them off
Usually though, she's far more involved with the counselors than the campers. She's the one making sure that everyone is working as well as they can together and things are being done properly. If not, they're being reassigned. She's checking in to help maintain the natural flow - and making sure there's no extreme drama or any other things going on
Adjusting to camp life and living in closer quarters isn't something that many can easily adapt to and she knows it. Plus, sometimes campers can be a handful and a half and it can be exhausting mentally and physically. It's important for her to make sure the counselors are okay because EVERYONE needs someone looking out for them. They might be looking out for the kids but she's looking out for them and has their backs
Especially when it comes to interpersonal counselor relationships. That stuff is no joke. Resentment and drama can easily build and divides can form and the last thing she wants to have to deal with is that headache - plus, she does care about everyone's well being. Everyone can't be well if there's quarrels happening, especially behind the scenes.
If anything happens, she's the woman you can rely on and SHOULD. Go to her first. She'll always be the one to lend a listening ear and will do her best to solve it or at least put something towards it
Or just go to her if you want someone to easily hang out with and chat to. Especially if you'd like a moment of peace and quiet. The world can be loud and chaotic out there but her office is usually much less of a shit show. You'll get bonus points if you're bringing her extra cookies from the cafeteria (even more if you remember some for her wife)
She's the voice of reason, sensibility, and a whole lot of calm compared to all of the craziness going on. And she's super cool, how does anyone not like her. She's got SO many cool stories, she's great, I love Laswell <3
Bonus: Her wife is the camp photographer. She IS getting all those cute pictures and it IS going to be an album and it IS glorious
Nikolai (Camp Supplier)
Technically he's not apart of the staff that you'll find constantly at camp, but that doesn't make him any less important. In fact, he's the main reason WHY they can keep running and functioning as they do
He's Price's absolute go-to and is the one who is bringing things in. Whether that be dealing with the food shipments, the general equipment and maintenance things they need stocked, or really anything they need brought in - he's the guy
Usually he's in around very early mornings or very late at night, it's a rarity for him to turn up when it's normal waking hours, which is very much on purpose
Partially because unloading/loading is easier when not dealing with campers - partially because just sometimes Price has things that prooooobably wouldn't be Laswell approved and shouldn't exactly be around at camp. And partially because Price loves shooting the shit with his old buddy, having a smoke and a light drink before he has to bid Nikolai farewell as he gets back on the road
Also because if Nikolai is left to interact with any of the campers, he IS pulling the cool/fun uncle move and giving them things that he deems as child appropriate (like a knife) and teaching them how to use it
"It's good they learn now! When I was their age I could already name all the types of blades and knew how to work them too. Will come in handy one day, no?"
Not Laswell approved in the slightest. And as much as Price agrees, and as much as the campers think Nikolai is awesome (he is), Price really does NOT want to deal with being chewed out by Laswell.... again. Rightfully so but he's begrudgingly accepted that his and Nikolai's ideas of what kids these days should know aren't exactly the same as theirs
Nikolai is still very much one of the coolest guys to meet at the camp, though. While he's been politely told by Laswell to maybe back off from the campers and giving them "Fun ideas", she never said anything about the counselors
Unsurprisingly, Nikolai is incredibly popular with the counselors. You'll have to compete to get picked to help unload trucks and unpack on the days when he's coming in because EVERYONE wants to see him
He's got a great sense of humor that strays a bit more on the almost-dirty side and will instantly treat you like he's known you for your whole life. He's already got a hand clapped on your back and is asking about how school or... whatever it is you're doing is going
He'll happily give you advice and what you should do - or more correctly what he would do if he were in your shoes, but you know, that's just him. He'll likely end up talking about some story of his childhood which honestly is starting to seem like its own movie franchise with the amount of things that have happened
Overall, for the short time he's around, he's always a welcome face and you're probably going to be one of the people going "WOOO NIKOLAI!" whenever you see that semi truck. He's got a fanclub at this point
König (Maintenance)
A guy as big as him is perfect for maintenance. He already knew how to work with his hands from childhood where he grew up on a farm - his parents taught him. It's an important skill to be able to fix things, so he learned how to do it well
He can very easily pick up whatever needs to be moved or reach the tallest of places. Carrying planks of wood and fixing that one leaky pipe in the ceiling is easy as can be for him. He only really needs assistance if it's an area too small for him to fit
Which isn't very often. Usually it's things like "Billy tried doing a cartwheel but ended up face first in the wall. Anyways can you come fix it-"
It's easy enough for him. The campers usually have to vacate the area anyways when he's doing work due to potential hazards anyhow, so he works all on his own, as happy as can be
He's working on his own and is usually all alone 9/10 times. He's not very social and would rather keep to himself. Plus, kids have little filter. He'd rather take his space from them because usually if he's around them, the things THEY end up saying make him self conscious more. Even if he knows he shouldn't be, kids can be brutal
If you want to get in contact with him, usually walkie talkie is the best way. Cell service is as good as gone around most of the camp. Its that or try to look for him in areas where people wouldn't be
He's on top of things and keeps the camp in working order, luckily. Being as organized as he is and on-top of repairs means he can often be left with a fair bit of free time
Which he happily uses to go on hikes or to spend some time out in mother nature, enjoying the outdoors without pressure from anyone or anything
He's very much his normally quite socially awkward self which is why he'd prefer to stay away from others, but you can occasionally catch him mid-job. Please, don't bother him while he's working - unless he specifically volunteers you as tribute to help him (it happens when he needs someone to hold things)
Don't tell him what to do while he's doing it, though. He knows how to do his job and knows it well, which is ALSO why he doesn't like usually working with others. His own self-assurance can be misinterpreted as arrogance but he knows he's good at what he does, thank you very much
You're really not going to find him around others, except maybe the counselors and the older groups of campers who know how to actually treat others with respect. That's on rare occasions and usually it's only when he's practically made to be social
Still, you can absolutely get in his good graces and try to befriend him. Offer to help him out, get to talking to him about himself, and maybe politely steer any campers away who stare at him because he's a moose of a man - and maybe bribe him with snacks, you'll eventually get closer
He'll still not be the most chatty but you'll find he has a sense of humor (as dry and as terrible as it might be at times.. and maybe a bit snarky), and just maybe you'll find yourself hanging out with him at the art pavilion late at night, working on your own projects
He loves to carve, it keeps his hand and his mind occupied. And for being such a big guy, he's quite dexterous and has a lot of skill manipulating a knife. Maybe a worrying bit, but look! He's made you a carving of your favorite animal, maybe don't focus on the knife but rather the work that he's done (and is proud of)
Keep that as a token and you'll surely have good luck for the rest of the year. Maybe even better with him if you make him one in return
Bonus: He's unofficially banned from campfire stories. Not that he particularly wants to be there to tell him, he just might if some kids seem distressed or are begging. It's just like how his mom did for him when he was little, so surely he can do it! Except they're uh... they're the German kind. The ones that usually end with someone dying, tortured, suffering - the ones supposed to teach lessons and morals. He loved them so surely they must too - wait why are the kids crying? Oh god, he made it worse. (Banned for a reason, he's just confused and a bit baffled, he thought it was a happy one :( why are they sad?)
Phillip Graves (Equestrian Director/Barn Manager)
Sorry not sorry, I'm never UNseeing him as anything less than the utter cowboy energy he puts out. Granted, he's not from the rural countryside or a poor family. He's from an affluent family who happened to have a home in the countryside, there's a difference
He just goes by Graves because being called "Shadow" ended up with too many "oh, like the hedgehog?" 's for his liking
You're on one of three teams when it comes to him. You either love him, hate him, or love to hate him. There's absolutely no in between. He's an incredibly polarizing person with how strong his personality is
Most of the counselors simply do not like him because he's absolutely a snake in the grass and will do what he can for his benefit. It's himself and his interests first, others second. Usually that just means any and everything to do with the barn, he sees it as his priority
He's really only kept around because of how damn popular he is with the campers and parents alike - and the fact he really has money and brings a fair bit in for the camp. A lot of other staff don't like him, but you can't deny his charm or that he's actually good at what he does. He butts heads with many because he's.... himself, but he's easy enough to avoid on a general basis
Phillip is many things but lazy? Hell no. He's opportunistic. If there's an easier way to do something, he'll do it. But he'll still be working his ass off for it. He's someone where if he sees something he wants, he's going to take it. He keeps things running and his ambition keeps them two steps ahead
He's got wit, he's got charm, he's got a smile that can disarm - seriously, the man can lay it on thick like molasses and it works. He's ended up with so many campers having the innocent crush on him BECAUSE of how suave he is. Doesn't matter if you hate him, can't deny the initial strong vibe he has - even if he is a bit of a douchebag later down the line, especially if you're against him
He really doesn't care for all too many of the counselors outside of those who work directly with him. If you're working under him as apart of the barn staff, congratulations, you're apart of his crew - he's looking out for you (at least on a surface level), and he'll happily sink his teeth into anyone who comes after you with a smile on his face
His group can certainly be a bit cliquey, as in you're not sitting with them or eating with them UNLESS you're apart of the crew. But to be fair, they're usually eating breakfast significantly earlier than everyone else and eating dinner later due to the horses - and that's also a biiiit of an excuse for it
He runs a tight ship and keeps everything moving. There's no room for error or for skipping past the times on carefully laid out schedule when you have as many animals there as he does. He's got a game plan and has everything down to a T, it's fast paced, but it's how everything keeps functioning like a well oiled machine
Graves isn't lazy, no, he puts in his work. He leads best by example and knows no one will respect him if he can't show that he's WORTH that. Plus, it helps build comradery if he keeps himself involved. Not to mention, he's a firm believer in "if you want something done right, do it yourself"
Usually there's other instructors and counselors who help teach campers and manage that, he's usually doing more so day to day important barn duties and working with the advanced equestrians. He knows his stuff, but he's very "my way or the highway". He's not a lenient instructor but he'll get results. And if you know what you're doing, great, he won't be over your shoulder at every given second and will even compliment you if you do well
He's a douchebag, he's full of himself, and he's got quite the attitude and arrogance but that's not all he is. Just work hard and be in his good graces, or avoid him at all costs, and you'll live. The Phillip hating team is quite strong so you have allies if you do the latter option
At least he's usually rather nice to his own counselors and is looking out for them. You can absolutely get closer to him if you work under him and work hard. He notices talent when he sees it, as well as hard work. He's not above appreciating it or at least rewarding his team and making them feel valued enough to keep supporting him instead of flaking to others
You can hate him all you want but you cannot deny how much he loves his horse. She's a dapple gray quarter horse named Carolina and she's probably his biggest weakness. She gets the fanciest and best of EVERYTHING, he keeps her pristine and proper. He's got a whole stash of purple shampoos and hoof and hair oils alike for her. Even their tack is blinged out, her halter has actual gems set in them. Yes, it's overkill, but so is all he does

COD TF141 Camp AU
My mind has been stuck on this probably because I was a camp counselor myself at a summer camp. And oh man, what an experience. Cannot get it out of my mind, maybe because I like thinking of them happy in a calmer setting where its much less life and death and just them getting to have a semi peaceful life???
They still use their call signs in this because I know some camps make their counselors pick "camp names" in order to prevent duplicate names, especially if you have a common one. It's to prevent mix ups and is a lot easier for kids to remember. Plus, it's super fun - and carries a small spark of nostalgia for all of them
John Price (Camp Director)
Price is the gruff, rough around the edges camp director that is usually too busy managing the fifty million things that come with an older campgrounds filled with unruly kids/teens
He's one of the few who doesn't use his call sign. He just goes by Captain since that's how they default to him anyways
He's always got a clipboard or walkie talkie in hand, you'll never see him without something occupying his time or his mind alike
These places don't run themselves and he knows all about running a tight ship. He prefers to check things himself and wants to be involved so he knows what's going down
Not to say he doesn't have a sense of humor or is all business, he's great at playing pranks. Sometimes when it comes to new counselors, he'll do things like telling them to go get something for him from the basement. There is no basement, he just thinks it's a good laugh to watch the increasing panic and confusion grow on their faces and times how long it takes them to come back to him for help
He's usually not one to be interacting much with the campers themselves, seeing as he's quite busy elsewhere - and he's been banned from telling campfire stories because his idea of what an entertaining story is is probably closer to something that gives the younger kids nightmares
"It'll toughen them up, they'll hear much worse later in their life" is usually his logic. They'll be exposed to the real world, so might as well give them a taste of what it can bring and with a very cool sorry, thank you very much
As much as the Counselors in Training (CITs) and mainly the younger boys LOVE Price's gritty stories, the others are not so fond of having to explain to the parents why the children suddenly are talking about wanting to take down insurgents just like Captain
He means well and is usually admired, even if he is a bit unpolished at the best of times. As strict and stern as he can be, he's still one there to lend a genuinely listening ear. He's only as tough as he is because he cares, you just have to work around it
If you want to talk to him, you'll mainly catch him out smoking on the back porch of his cabin at night, seeing as he lives there. He knows its a bad habit but it's not one he can easily break and it's a bit of a relaxer after the day he's had
He'll happily let you relax on the porch with him, sitting back in a rocking chair, watching the stars above. It's a nice reminder of the little smaller things in life that he used to miss out on
Simon "Ghost" Riley (Groundskeeper)
Ghost still lives up to his name in the sense that he's barely around during the day, usually being a phantom and a whisper hidden in the shadows
That's mainly because he's not fond of having a lot of attention on him still and kids are a rowdy bunch as is. Throw teenagers into that mix and it's a perfect storm of chaos - one of which he'd rather avoid. He finds it too exhausting mentally and doesn't really have the patience to deal with that day in, day out
Not to mention, there's a lot of area to cover in the camp that he takes care of. He'll usually be out in the woods, maintaining the trails during the day when he knows there's not going to be others in the area
It brings him a sense of peace and purpose, allowing him to work on his own and at his own pace without having to deal with the usual hustle and bustle elsewhere around camp. Usually the tasks are quite repetitive and calming to his mind, he finds solace in nature's solitude
That being said, sometimes you can find him helping out with arts and crafts or in that area on very rare occasions - mainly if it's calmer groups or he has already finished all of his work for the day. He likes working with his hands and creating things instead of destroying all the time, it's better for his psyche
While he usually may work on a project on his own, he does occasionally offer his own advice or show the campers some tips and tricks he's learned along the way.
He's more fond of the older teens who he can show things like sewing and embroidery, which he'll often do in his down time, since they can pick it up and often are much calmer than the younger groups
He'll help them with their techniques and will teach them the basics quite happily. It allows for a far more interesting thing to do than the standard friendship bracelets alone
He has a small collection of little plushies and dolls made by some of the campers donated to him, and has a patchwork quilt of all the embroidered squares he's received
As much as he grumbles and complains about some of the campers, there's no denying the warmth in his eyes as yet another one scampers up to him, showing off a little yellow and black thread bee that they made for him
You're welcome to join him as he creates yet another prop or costume to help scare kids who wander into the woods at night. It's for their own safety, really. There's dangerous animals out there. And it's quite amusing to try to convince them that there's such a thing as the weresquatch (Soap's idea)
He has a grade A sense of humor still, as long as you like dad jokes, and will happily say enough of them until you're regretting joining him in the first place at that point splattered, work out picnic table
Though he doesn't let the campers do this any more, if you want to color his tattoos, you're welcome to - as consolation for having to deal with the campers all day. It's the least he can do, yeah?
Not to mention, it's a built in coloring book with the best lines there are. How can you pass it up? Of course, he secretly loves it too but won't ever say - instead he'll show it in how he rolls up his sleeve and sets the pens down
Kyle "Gaz" Garrick (General Counselor)
He's one of the first faces you'll see at the camp. Smiling, happy, and warm - he's an absolute welcome sight and naturally can put anyone at ease with that smile of his.
He's absolutely adored by all the campers. He's not the most "fun" one, but you bet he's the one who will have your back. No, he's not letting you go all alone to go rock climbing, but he's sure as shit at least forming a group and making it happen.
That's not to say he's a stick in the mud. He just won't let everything slide and won't enable certain things just because - he still has a sense of discipline and would rather not deal with some headaches (nor have Price get onto them about it)
He's still the one up at night telling all the (age appropriate, cough cough) campfire stories, teaching them how to make shadow puppets, and helping wrangle everyone to bed
He's also the one who you'll want to go to to get something done or to have a chance of getting a counselor on your side
I headcannon him as having an older brother and two younger sisters so he's dealt with kids before and knows their dynamics to a T, which means it's his second nature to understand them and to deal with their conflicts with ease
Since everyone comes to him for everything because he's amiable and polite, he knows all the gossip and drama. He naturally has an aura about him which people trust, regardless of if that's the right move or not
All he really has to do is be himself and people will come running with their problems. He's trained a wonderful poker face and fake neutrality over the years of it
Gaz isn't one to start fights or petty drama. He's one to finish them. And because he's in the know, has all sides, he'll be absolutely happy to make his stand - even if it is something like putting a fake snake in another counselors bed and waking up to them screaming in horror first thing next morning
He'll keep a straight face and assures Price he'll handle it, he'll have a talk with them (he's giving the kid who provided said snake extra dessert that night)
No one will EVER suspect a single thing
He's 100% the cause of one of the prank wars that lasted the entire summer. I mean sure, Soap helped, but a lot of it was banking on him and he absolutely sold it
He's a smart lad so he'll always have every excuse at the ready and can play anything off. Join him for it, you won't regret it. He's not getting caught and he'll make sure you won't either
He'll absolutely let you in on secrets and some of the drama that's been happening as you gather up the supplies for the next prank, making sure you're covering all your bases and getting back at those other counselors for screwing up your schedule
John "Soap" MacTavish (Activities Counselor)
Soap may not look the most approachable at first glance. He's quite intimidating. Have you seen those muscles??? The slight broody expression he carries? He usually has a concentrated face when he's working on something that he doesn't realize can seem scary
Not to mention, he doesn't always have the smoothest way of talking or the nicest things to say. His gruffer voice and tone combined with the fact he's more serious than other counselors like Gaz, generally means new campers aren't flocking to him
However, he's an absolute favorite among returning campers who know him
While he's got a serious face and can have the intensity to match, especially when he's focused on something, he's still a LOT of fun to be around
He's an activities counselor for a reason. He's got a lot of energy, a lot of excitement, and plenty of room to motivate others and to get them to WANT to be participating
He doesn't like keeping things the same, predictable routines. He's always one to switch it up and try new things. It keeps things a bit more exciting and keeps it further away from being a boring camp that no one wants to go to
He's incredibly involved in whatever he's doing, whether that be sports of crafts - if they're making friendship bracelets, he's already got a crew working on making the most ridiculous one possible with him as the leader
He's yet another character I head cannon him as having a ridiculously big family - with him being one of the younger, and only having two brothers but five sisters. His house always was a bit of a nightmare but at least he can now braid like a champion
He's used to the chaos and can watch it unfold without batting a single eye. He's really the best one if you need someone to help with the unruly campers. He's intimidating enough to keep them in check, but kind enough to not give the younger ones a heart attack
He's the one who makes up most of the camp rumors and stories. Weresquatch was based on Price being shirtless - don't tell him that though. He'll make things up to keep kids away from the dangerous parts of the woods and to nicely scare them into behaving. Or give them something to focus on and distract themselves
Gaz is helping sell said rumors. He knows when Soap made it and just rolls with it. Oh, you didn't know about the shoe eating leprechaun? Well, do I have some bad news for you kiddo
Whatever you do, don't ask him for "Ghost stories", he'll tell you a story ABOUT ghost, but so vaguely worded it can be interpreted as in a literal ghost story
Some of the best nights are at those campfires, after all of the campers have gone to bed. He'll happily teach you how to make the perfect s'more as you both talk about your days. He may or may not try to rope you into the prank war with Gaz and him against some of the other counselors, but can you blame him?
You'll make the best memories, it'll be worth it. Now.... about what he's deeming mission "earthworm surprise"....
(Good luck to the other counselors, you'll need it)
