07/05/20 🌼 . You know what I’m learning? To stop. To stop when I feel a tug in my spirit. When I see a pretty view or pretty flowers, (as was the case in the photos above) but mostly to stop & r e s t. I’m the kind of person who always finds herself busy and when I’m not busy it almost feels wrong. This is the state I have conditioned myself to be in and before quarantine it was my normal. In the last 5 months I’ve been slowed down, not particularly by my own will but I didn’t know how much it would change my perspective on rest. I need it. You need it. But real rest, that doesn’t have us watching TV while also on our phones while also thinking about all the things we should do later. Real rest is empty space. It is open, quiet space that once you make available God uses to fill your cup. You have to choose to rest and you have to let God in to it in order for it to be the fullest it can be. Listen to yourself, you know when you need to sit down, don’t ignore those signs. Stop. Breathe. I always find encouragement in nature. Hiking helps keep me grounded. Walking outdoors in the sunlight. It keeps my focus on the bigger picture when I start to get lost inside my head.

do you ever sit with a group of people and not say anything for  the entire time so theres no reason for you to be there youre just awkwardly listening to people converse while doing your own thing and wondering how its so easy for them to just talk or why its so hard for you to say anything

I needed to hear this
I remember one time when I was in an eating disorder treatment center and struggling to finish a particularly hard meal, a therapist kneeled down next to me and said, “You don’t need to prove to me that you’re in pain.” I could feel some emotion starting to come up and I tried to push it away. She said, “Tell me about the pain, Lindsay. Use you words, not your body.” That’s still one of the most powerful things I’ve been told when in my eating disorder. There have been times, even subconsciously, that I’ve used ED behaviors as a way of showing people how much pain I’m in, telling them that I am not okay inside.  There are still days when I’m tempted to take out my emotions on my body, to make my internal pain visible. But sometimes I think about this therapist and it makes me pause, even for a second, and remember that I don’t have to destroy myself to prove my pain to anyone. It is valid and real whether I look “sick enough” or not.

IF YOU NEED TO CALL 911 BUT ARE SCARED TO BECAUSE OF SOMEONE IN THE ROOM, dial and ask for a pepperoni pizza. They will ask if you know you’re calling 911. Say yes, and continue pretending you’re making an order. They’ll ask if there’s someone in the room.
You can ask how long it will take for the pizza to get to you, and they will tell you how far away a dispatcher is.
Here is an example video

Quote
One of the saddest things a person could tell you, “Remember when that used to be our thing.” But the thing is people change. People drift apart. Now, all we have are memories.
