Mentally begging people to realize that just because the author wrote [x] a specific way doesn’t mean the author holds those same values please this is genuinely basic elementary logic I’m going insane
A writer who writes a narcissistic character is not necessarily narcissistic themselves. A writer who writes a misogynistic character is not necessarily narcissistic themselves. Please I’m begging you to understand that you have to separate the author from the characters not everything is a self insert

A queer piece of media a day (except I started late): Torchwood//T.V Show
A spin-off of Doctor Who, Torchwood features Doctor Who's Jack Harkness, along with his entirely human team, defending Earth from alien threats in absence of The Doctor. Torchwood made headlines during its 2006 debut for having an entire main cast who were (mostly), ambiguously queer, with only Jack, Ianto, and Gwen having their sexualities explicitly stated. One of TW's most defining traits is the fact that despite the fact that the main cast is entirely all queer, the show doesn't fall into the same trap other queer media seems to do, where characters are defined solely by their sexualities (yes, even Jack "I will fuck an alien today I think" Harkness isn't defined by his sexuality in TW either). A very good watch for DW fans who haven't discovered TW yet, and highly recommended if you want to see disaster queers try to be secret about their not actually very secret organization. ("Who the hell orders a pizza under the name Torchwood?")

A queer character creator a day (except I started late): Eret//MCYT
Most commonly known for their Dream SMP era and deep voice, Eret is now a variety streamer on Twitch with sporadic YouTube uploads. Eret uses any pronouns (except it/itself) and identifies as genderqueer and bisexual, and recently celebrated being 1 year on HRT several weeks ago. It should be noted that she is currently on social media break, but did have a stream 7 days ago on Twitch.

A queer piece of media a day (except I started late): Honourable Mention- Star Trek//T.V Show
While Star Trek only recently started fully implementing queer characters (within the last 5-ish years or so), Star Trek: The Original Series receives an honourable mention for being part of the thing that paved way for most of what shipping culture is today, in the form of the wildly popular mlm ship, Spirk (Spock and Captain Kirk). [It should be noted that for those who take "765874 - Unification" as part of the series, Spirk may be canon to Star Trek]
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is the first of the franchise to feature two queer characters: Lieutenant Commander Dax, and Lenara Kahn. While the characters do not get together (due to some in-universe rules regarding Dax), they were very nearly the first WLW couple to hit Star Trek's screens. Lieutenant Commander Dax is also technically genderfluid- being joined to an alien symbiote called a Trill (the symbiotes are not placed in exclusively men or women bodies), she has lived lives as both a male and a female.
Star Trek: Discovery introduces five canonically queer characters all at once: > Engineer Paul Stamets and his husband Ships Doctor Hugh Colber > Jett Reno (played by openly gay comedian Tig Notaro) > Adira Tal and Gray, who are non-binary and trans respectively, and whose actors share the same identity as them
Star Trek: Picard hints at a WLW relationship between Seven and Raffi Musiker, the main character.
A good watch if you're looking for some sci-fi, without the really dark themes of Star Wars, as well as some killer worldbuilding.

A queer character creator a day (except I started late): Martyn Inthelittlewood// MCYT

Often mistaken for a different MCYT content creator (Phil/Philza), Martyn is most known for participation in the following Minecraft SMPS: > Misadventures SMP > The various -Life SMPs, hosted by Grian > Rats SMP > Pirates SMP Martyn is also often named one of the ‘honorary Hermits’ from the Hermitcraft SMP fandom, due to his numerous collaborations with the SMP’s members both in and out of the -Life SMPs. Martyn identifies as gynesexual, a term used to describe the sexual attraction to feminine people regardless of their assigned gender at birth.

A queer piece of media a day (except I started late): The Mortal Instrument series//TV shows and books
In a world where angels and demons exist, humans with angel blood find themselves battling a daily war against said demons, and sometimes monsters too. Everything gets turned on its head, however, with the emergence of Jace and Clary, two siblings separated from birth. Both with twice the amount of angel blood a Shadowhunter is supposed to have, giving them unique abilities no other person possesses.
The Mortal Instrument series feature two main queer characters that alternate between being background and main characters, depending on the book: Alexander 'Alec' Gideon Lightwood-Bane, a gay Shadowhunter, and Magnus Bane, a bisexual warlock and Alec's husband. There is also a background lesbian relationship- Aline Penhallow (A Shadowhunter), and her wife Helen Blackthorn (Half Shadowhunter, half fey), and in the beginning of the series, Raphael the vampire is present, an asexual Hispanic. There are a number of other background characters who are queer (with most of them coming from the short stories and The Infernal Devices- which happens in the same universe but several generations beforehand), but listing them all would take too long.

A queer character a day (except I started late): Jonathan ‘Jon’ Sims//The Magnus Archives

Often seen as Welcome to Nightvale’s more horror-based sibling, The Magnus Archives is a unique take on a horror/supernatural podcast. Jonathan Sims is the main character of the podcast and works as an archivist at The Magnus Archives. While not explicitly stated by the podcasts’ characters at the time (because they were all dealing with… things), the creators of The Magnus Archives have confirmed that he is Ace and Bi. It should also be noted that TMA’s writer, who goes by the same name of the main character, is queer himself, and has a nonbinary partner. TMA also features plenty of other queer characters, with these two being the most prominent: > Martin Blackwood, one of Jon’s assistants (MLM) > Timothy ‘Tim’ Stoker, also an archival assistant (Bi)

A queer piece of media a day (except I started late): 9-1-1//TV Show

A team of firefighters, dispatchers, and police officers find themselves thrust into high-energy, tense situations everyday, all while dealing with familial and friendship drama.
The show features many queer characters, including: > Paramedic Henrietta ‘Hen’ Wilson (lesbian) > Supervising Dispatcher Josh Russo (gay) > Firefighter Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley (Bisexual) > Karen Wilson, Hen’s wife > Michael Grant, the ex-husband of Field Sargent Athena Grant-Nash > LAFD pilot Thomas ‘Tommy’ Kinard (gay)
It should also be noted that 9-1-1 had a spinoff called 9-1-1: Lonestar, taking place in the same universe with a different set of first responders. Lonestar included the following queer characters: > Firefighter Paul Strickland (Trans Male) > Former paramedic Tyler Kennedy ‘T.K’ Strand (gay) > Police Officer Carlos Reyes (And T.K’s husband) > Paramedic Nancy Gillian (Bisexual)
A good watch if you like high-tension scenarios and a bit of the found family dynamic within the firehouse. 9-1-1 is still ongoing, while 9-1-1: Lonestar was cancelled back in 2024 due to financial issues.

A queer piece of media a day (except I started late): The Sun and the Star//Mark Oshiro and Rick Riordan
Written by acclaimed author Rick Riordan, as well as queer author Mark Oshiro, The Sun and The Star are part of the extended Percy Jackson universe and a spin-off of the Trials of Apollo series.
Featuring two queer characters, Nico Di Angelo (gay) and Will Solace (Bi), the story follows the pair down to the depths of Tartarus, following a voice that's been crying for help in Nico's dreams.
It is soon to be followed by The Court of the Dead, which will be released by the two same authors in September of 2025. A recommended read if you're looking for a book with queer characters that doesn't necessarily focus on their relationship, along with the usual Riordan-esque Greek mythos and shoelace soup.

A queer character a day (except I started late): The 15th Doctor//Doctor Who
Played by queer actor Ncuti Gatwa, the 15th Doctor is the first reincarnation to be as explicit about the character's queer identity as it was, and features the second instance of the Doctor being in an openly queer relationship- the Doctor and Rogue in their brief lovers doomed by the narrative arc. While 15 isn't the first to wear a skirt/dress on screen (that honor goes to 3), he is the first to wear one for longer than just a scene or two.
Ncuti Gatwa's run is also characterized by the following queer background characters: > The Maestro, played by drag queen Jinx Monsoon > Ruby's unnamed boyfriend, who is implied to be bisexual > Rogue, played by by gay actor Jonathan Groff

alright I did too much thinking. So. The Doctor's regens are somewhat influenced by his companions, right? We see this most prominently with 12, whose face was a promise to both himself and Clara. Now, who were 12's more prominent companions? Clara and Bill. His Impossible girl and his student. What does 12 regenerate into? A woman. Clara tried breaking down 12's walls, and semi succeeded. 13? amended that, and tried to be more open with the Fam. 13's base idea is all Clara- a last promise to her Impossible Girl that she'll get something right.
13's personality though. The excitedness, the attempt at being casual? The bright clothing compared to the usual black and blues, the chattiness unlike 12? That's Bill Potts, through and through. The Doctor still doesn't know she was alive, that Heather saved her, and it was one of his biggest regrets, and it's a silent apology to her student. A silent I'm sorry. (also both of them were gay and fall for people with the opposite hair color- light vs dark)
