I know this isn't pride stuff but I had to share this because it gives me hope...

Sometimes i think about what it must have been like for mario is odyssey whenever cappy was like ‘oo a painting to another world we can jump through this!’. Alarm bells start ringing now whenever he’s near a ghost and a painting at the same time

I mean, I don’t blame him. The man’s been trapped into a painting twice (3 if we count LM3 but that was after Odyssey). I wouldn’t trust one either

Actually, I remember to heard about this headcanon in which Mario after the events of Luigi’s Mansion would develop some fear to paintings and I kinda see that possible. 

Personal headcanon time:

In the first game Mario is seen hitting the painting and even crying out for help, so it’s to assume he was conscious the whole time (remarking this since in the next games Mario is in a completely static portrait as if he was in some sort of deep sleep, that might not be true, even so, I will only focus on the first game).

So, I have this headcanon that King Boo original plan was not only to trap them into paintings but to make both Mario and Luigi live an eternal nightmare while they’re trapped, forever stuck in complete darkness with voices constantly laughing at them to make them lose any hope. Since Luigi never gets captured he didn’t experienced that, Mario on the other hand….

For how long he was there, hours? Maybe a whole day? Imagine what it was for Mario to being completely alone in a bottomless void with no other vision than King Boo staring and laughing at him, while Mario hits the painting as it’s his only way to silent those voices that are constantly discouraging him and reminding him that he will never escape of the portrait, his prision.

Eventually King Boo gets captured and the voices finally stop, Mario knew his nightmare was over and he ends up collapsing of exhaustion.

Mario seemed completely fine after being rescued but that event probably left him a serious mark that would make him never want to enter a painting ever again

Back to Mario Odyssey, I can imagine he was feeling insecure about it but since Mario needed the power moons to rescue the princess he decided to take the risk. (Hecc, when he enters a painting for the first time you can see some shock and fear coming out from him)

The poor man must have thought that the painting was in fact a trap and he would get captured again, then the moment Mario finally gets warped to another world he be like “…..I’m safe….. I did it…..”

When you think about, this was probably one of the very few times we ever saw Mario overcoming his fears.

Mario, the oh -so- brave hero is not just a bland dude, he has feelings too. He can feel mad, sad, happy, but most importantly he can also feel fear.

He had a bad experience that affected him… but he took the risk because someone he cares for needed him.
