Today's Date is May 6th, 2024 and today's card is Flood!
Fun Fact of the Day: This card is from a rather infamous set called The Dark. It had a fair few cards with sort of creepy looking art, horror inspiration, and some cards with inspiration from the occult. It being released in the 90s at the height of the satanic panic put Magic the Gathering in bad standing with paranoid christians all over the country. This card is a good example of how they were going for a more emotionally evocative, moody setting.
[ID This card depicts a large body of water with a house's roof poking out the top towards the right side and a tree with a cat stuck in it poking out the top towards the left side. A boy sits sorrowfully on the top of the roof.
It's an enchantment that costs 1 Blue mana. Its rarity is Common.
The rules read "2 Blue mana: Target non-flying creature becomes tapped."
The flavor text reads "A dash of cool water does wonders to clear a cluttered battlefield"
-Vibekke Ragnild, Witches and War
Its artist is Denise Derwiler and its print year is 1994. It's from the infamous set The Dark. End ID.]

the radical extent to which Koreans do not want to invite anyone into their home in action in front of me - grandma, grandpa, the other grandpa, mom and dad have bought coffee for the adults and a cake for the child, lit the candles and sang the kiddo a whole birthday song in this Cafe where I get my Saturday sandwich. Five adults staring obsessively at a little 4 year old girl is also very 2024 Seoul, in the land of no babies.
The other tables are - 2 male friends talking, 2 female friends talking, 2 old men talking, and 3 women alone occupying a table each.

Happy new year, Korka! :D
Wanted to ask what is that thingy everyone is playing in JP? I play JP but I don't actually know Japanese so I don't understand when a new event/mini game thingy drops lol. Disadvantages of playing a game in Japanese when you don't actually know the language yourself 😅
HAPPY NEW YEAR BESTIE!
Oo, it's karuta! I have no idea what the game irself actually is, but in enstars it's like. You get a selection of cards with the characters, a timer sounds 3-2-1, and a line is said. You have to recognise who's speaking and choose their card faster than your opponent! The two easier difficulties have an added bonus in that all the cards have a hiragana character in the corner, and it's the character that fits the first syllable the character says in the line ! I think the first word Mika says is "ishi", so his syllable is "i", that's both next to his card and what he says when you tap him! <3

Hey guys!
As you may know, I have donated to five (5) different campgains. Thank you for the likes and reblogs! It is much appreciated. But can a few people donate to them? These families would be able to reach their goal and evacuate if you do!
Can we also help a Tumblr user, Eman (@emooz-8), and her family? They are in danger! The RSF (Rapid Support Forces) are closing in her location. Imagine the dread when you find out the military is after you? What if they attack when you are sleeping? Isn't it terrifying? So imagine how Eman feels!
She is petrified.
But we can change that! All you have to do is donate $5 to her as well as her extended family's fundraiser. I know inflation is not making it any easier, but think about it! This saves many lives!
Please look below for the link to her fundraiser. (It is also verified and vetted by @/el-shab-hussein!)
Keep in mind that it is in Swiss Franc. So 1 CAD = CHF 0.65 and 1 USD = CFH 0.86, give or take. Be sure to check your currency exchange!
Here is the link for her extended family. (It is also verified!)
The currency for this one is in Singaporean dollars. So 1 CAD = 0.98 SGD or 1 USD = 1.33 SGD, give or take. Again, check with the currency exchange!
Now, I don't want to make this long, but thank you for making it this far. Thank you if you choose to participate! It would mean the world to Eman and her beautiful family!

USING RELIGHT FOR RESHADE - a tutorial by amoebae
Tumblr media
[You can also find this tutorial over at imgur and patreon]
ReLight is a premium shader for ReShade made by Marty's Mods (Pascal Gilcher). It allows you to add four new lights to your scene that help illuminate, and create realism and drama. To download and use ReLight you need to subscribe to the Path Tracers tier on Gilcher's Patreon to get access to the iMMERSE Ultimate package of shaders. Once subscribed, you'll be prompted to link your Patreon account to discord, and then you'll be granted access to his discord server, and, most importantly, to the Path Tracers discussion channel and the Downloads Level 2 channel, which is where you will find ReLight (along with the other premium shaders included in that tier).
Be sure to also download the up-to-date free iMMERSE shader package, because you'll need the Launchpad shader and some of the other included files.
The following guide is for the older qUINT_relight.fx version of ReLight. The latest version of ReLight is MartysMods_RELIGHT.fx, released on 31st December 2023. Many of the settings have changed in the newer version, but you can still use this guide to help understand how to enable and position lights. The guide will be updated/rewritten once I've had time to properly play around with the new version. You can continue to use the older version if you'd prefer.
Tumblr media
When you turn on ReLight in the ReShade menu you'll be greeted with these settings. Yours may look different because I've used it a lot and it remembers your last settings.
Take a look at the settings at the top.
Use Smooth Normals = On
Trace Shadows = On
Filter Shadows = On
Use Temporal Supersampling = On
Shadow Mode = Trace All
Shadow Quality = Ultra (change this if you get bad performance)
Shadow Sharpness = I have mine set around 0.65 but you can play around with whatever looks best
Z Thickness = Play around with this too. It controls how realistically shadows fall on and around objects
At the very bottom of the settings is Visualize Light Position. Turn this on so you can easily see where your lights are.
Tumblr media
Now we can turn on one of our lights. Remember, it remembers your previous settings so yours will look different to mine the first time you use it.
Under Light 0 check the Active box.
You should see a big circle appear somewhere on the screen. If you have any object close enough to it, you should see them get brighter. If nothing is close to the circle you may not see any difference.
You can see a difference between this screenshot and the last - Shadowheart's face is brighter.
Tumblr media
Now it's time to move the light where we want it and change it to a colour we like.
Under the Active box you'll see a row of 3 boxes containing numbers, next to the word Position. These control the coordinates of your circle of light in relation to the screen. You can place your mouse inside these boxes and move it while holding down left-click to change the value a little like a slider.
Left box = moves the circle left/right
Middle box = moves the circle up/down
Right box = moves the circle forward/back
In this shot I've moved the circle of light over to the right and a little further back so it better illuminates the front of Shadowheart's face.
Next you can choose the colour of your light.
In the row below Position you'll see it says Tint. Click on the coloured box next to Tint and it will bring up the colour picker you see in the screenshot. Choose your colour from here. Click anywhere in the main ReShade menu to close the colour picker.
Tumblr media
I adjusted the position and the tint a little more until I had it exactly where I wanted it. You can see a darker circle now over in the top right of the screen (my mouse cursor is hovering over it to make it easier to see).
You can use the Intensity slider (directly below Tint) to control how bright the light should be.
You may need to go back and forth between the Position, Tint, and Intensity settings until you get just the right effect.
Tumblr media
Here's a reminder of what the picture looks like without that added light. Compare it to the screenshot above to see how great our new little light has been at helping illuminate Shadowheart.
You can turn individual lights on and off whenever you want by checking or unchecking the Active box next to the light in question. It will save your settings.
Tumblr media
Now I want to add a second light. I've moved my ReShade window over a little so I can see what I'm doing.
I turned on the Active box under Light 1, and positioned my new light where I wanted it. Look over to the left of the statue in the background. You'll see my mouse cursor, and directly above it is a tiny blue circle. That's our second light!
The further you move the light away from the camera (using the right-hand box under Position) the smaller the circle gets, because it's further away!
I made this light blue, and I turned the intensity up quite high. This has helped illuminate the statue and added nice shadows that help give it some depth.
Tumblr media
Here's a screenshot to remind you what everything looks like without any of the ReLight lights I added.
Tumblr media
And here's a screenshot showing how everything looks with ReLight turned on and my two lights in action. I chose a subtle effect because I just wanted to draw attention to Shadowheart's face and to the statue behind her.
When you close the ReShade menu the circles that helped you know where your lights were will go away, but the light they cast will remain. Notice how you can't see the two circles in this shot?
You can also uncheck the Visualize Light Position box if you want to hide the circles while keeping the ReShade menu open. This can be helpful if they're obscuring parts of the scene that you need to see while you continue editing.
---
And that's it! You can add up to 4 lights and control them independently from one another. You can use them to just help illuminate a character for a portrait, to add drama with bold lighting, or to increase the realism of a scene with better shadows and light falling where you would expect it to. If you have a big fiery sword you can add a light to it that makes orange light cast onto the character who is holding it, which can look really cool. The only limit is your imagination.
(If I ever learn how to make videos I'll translate this tutorial into an easier format, but for now I hope this helps.)

Whats your opinion on fantasy races/ethnicities where every/most member has a disability? As an example from my writing my fantasy races with wings have less bone density to accommodate for wings and all of the people that live in one place of my fantasy world are deaf/hoh because they just have a gene that makes it congenital (Pretty sure this is a real thing, but rare)
Thank you for your ask! I think it depends on by fantasy races you mean sentient non humans or actual humans from a made up country / human based ‘species’ like dwarves or halfoots.
With the first scenario, I think it’s completely fine! After all, there are a lot of animals that would be considered disabled by human standards. Some species of fish don’t have eyes, certain breeds of dog are very likely to develop joint issues such as arthritis or hip dysplasia, and most animals don’t have hands! It also creates fun word building for cultures with different ideas of accessibility and healthcare.
For your winged person question in particular I think it’s fine! Birds in the real world are much more at risk of developing osteoporosis, especially in situations where they aren’t getting proper nutrients.
The second example should be avoided. Making an entire species that’s just a human with a disability is incredibly dehumanizing and frames disabled people as ‘others’. a-little-revolution made a good post regarding fantasy dwarves about the subject.
If you want your fantasy ethnicity to be more genetically likely to have a certain disability/disabilities that’s fine, that happens in real life! Just note that more likely doesn’t mean everyone will have it, such how deafness is more common on Martha Vinyard’s island than other parts of the US at 0.65% [x]. Just be careful to not imply that the populations disability is what makes them different from neighboring populations.
I’d say to be on the safe side, if your story has humans, make sure your humans have disabilities and not just the fantasy creatures!
I hope this helps!

I don't know if you've discussed this before but I don't really get madols/thaumarks in terms of value.
I thought it was like yen as in the anthology Azul is fretting over a 100(100 yen is 0.65 usd) coin and they all think he's paranoid, making 100 madol seem insignificant.
But then 50,000(yen to usd is 316 usd) madol for an item is supposed to be crazy expensive? As shown in the prologue.
Which isn't much for the exchange rate.
At the end of book 3 it states that the menu in the mostro lounge is then priced at 5-16 thaumark an item????
It makes no sense
Tumblr media
I talked about the difference between thaumarks (in EN, similar to the American dollar) and madol (in JP, similar to the Japanese yen) in this post. You will find many examples there as well!
You might be confused about the value of thaumarks and madol because currently the yen irl is weak. For reference, right now 100 yen is 0.65 or 65 cents in USD (not even a full dollar). However, I believe that the “true” exchange rate for thaumark to madol is more accurately described as 100 yen for every 1 dollar/1.00 USD. This results in a "cleaner" converted number and is closer to the value of the yen to dollar (100 yen to 1 dollar) when TWST first came out in 2020–though EN would not come out until a few years later. In 2024, the conversion is closer to 150-160 yen for 1 dollar, and this difference is probably what resulted in your confusion.
Knowing this, a thaumark is actually 1/100 the value of a madol. Just move the decimal point of the numver over to the left by two spaces to do the madol to thaumark conversion! This would make the value of a 50,000 yen/madol item actually closer to 500 dollars/thaumarks.
It should be noted that the broken chandelier in the prologue is stated to be worth “a billion” or more in both EN’s thaumarks and JP’s madol. Some numerical values like this are left unchanged between the two servers.
In real life, the value of currencies fluctuates all the time! But in a game like TWST, the currencies can be stabilized and unchanging regardless of what happens in the real world. That's likely the case in this situation.
In the anthology comic you referenced, the whole joke IS that Azul is fretting over what is a miniscule amount of missing money because he is just that stingy. The 100 madol coin and its 1 thaumark (or 100 sorcents) equivalent are supposed to be seen as not a lot of currency. He's overreacting over some change in both JP and EN currencies.
Tumblr media
Edit: In the official English localization for the anthology manga, Azul states that “100 thaumarks” are missing. I believe a different translation team handles the manga, so this inconsistency may be an error. The error implies 100 dollars are missing. In reality, it should probably be “1 thaumark”, or a $1 coin, which is the equivalent of a 100 madol/yen:
Tumblr media
As for the pricing of menu items at the Mostro Lounge, I don't think the values are strange at all. The prices quoted, however, are a little off. The items mentioned in book 3 actually range from 6-15 thaumarks or 600-1500 madol.
Azul explains that the drinks on the menu are 6 thaumarks/dollars (600 madol/yen). This is even more expensive than asking for a glass of juice or soda at a restaurant (a few dollars or a few hundred yen). It’s about the same price as a specialty drink (think like a mocktail or something). Putting that another way, that’s about the same cost as a tall Starbucks drink.
Azul also says that there is a limited menu with items for 15 thaumarks/dollars (1500 madol/yen), which I imagine are like the lunch sets or desserts. Many cafes and especially anime/manga collab cafes (which are notorious for being costly) have similar pricing for their dishes; in some cases. Here is an example of a menu from a Tokyo Mew Mew collab cafe (although you can find several others with matching prices or cost even more):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's also keep in mind that Azul only stated that items on THIS particular limited collab menu were 15 thaumarks/dollars or 1500 madol/yen each. We don't know if other limited collab menus or if the regular item menus are higher/lower cost. We should be cautious of using the 6-15 thaumarks/dollars or 600-1500 madol/yen range to cover the entirety of the food and drink prices that Mostro Lounge offers. For example, in Azul’s Dorm Uniform vignettes, he specifies that he’s selling the Mystery Drink for 1500 madol/yen or 15 thaumarks/dollars, which is significantly more than (/over double) the usual cost of a Mostro Lounge drink. If you got the mystery drink with your lunch, you’d already be in at $30 or 3,000 yen for a single meal—and again, this is only if you don’t count extra costs for tax and/or tip.
Let's do some math terrifying, I know... Deuce is shaking for what I assume is the regular order for a student dining in. We will order 1 drink and 1 item from the limited menu. Without tax (and tip, if Twisted Wonderland has that), this alone would cost you $21 or 2,100 yen. It'll cost even more if you order extra drinks or dessert. I imagine that just the 1 drink and 1 limited menu item together already cost significantly more than what you can get to eat at the school cafeteria. Because NRC is based on a British boarding school, let's use the irl cost of the average British high school's lunch costs (2-3 pound sterling, according to Google) to compare. 2-3 pound sterling is about 3.70 USD or 370 yen. Even if we were to assume that a private British boarding school would charge significantly more for food (because it's a "fancier" institution)—be it double, triple, or quadruple the price—students would still be paying a fraction of what one casual meal at the Mostro Lounge would cost. Not only that, but NRC students are getting more bang for their buck in the cafeteria, since food is served buffet style. You get a lot more variety and amount of food for much less initial cost. Comparatively, Mostro Lounge is the expensive option 🤡 (even if most of the main cast and NRC student body seem to be from pretty well-off families and could probably afford eating there daily, no problem). The average high school student has no income, has limited allowance, or earns minimum wage, so that cost of a fancy Mostro Lounge meal would take quite a bite from their personal spending budget.

Some friends and i were talking about this earlier and the conversation was pretty relevant to current expectations for S2 so I’m posting a general summary here!
So in this article from June we all heard that Arcane has “nearly six hours” of content. Due to the way this is worded many people (including myself) took this to mean that S2 would definitively be about 6 hours long, maybe a little less.
Tumblr media
For context, Arcane S1 was 6.2 (370 minutes) long, clocking an average of a little over 41 minutes per episode.
It may have just been me, but I was lead to believe when people were discussing this that the article explicitly states that Arcane S2 will be roughly 6 hours long, period. But looking at it now…this portion of the article could also just be explaining where they were in production at the time of publication (June ‘24)—I mean the article section is even titled “Ongoing Production”.
The rest of this post is assuming that’s the case and using some math to try to predict how long the season may end up being.
S2’s production beginning was announced on November 20th, 2021.
We know from BtR that Arcane S1 and S2 were written in conjunction, so assuming the actual animation portion of production starts at the time of the announcement, the team has had about 550 days between Nov ‘21 and June ‘24 to create 6-ish hours of footage (roughly 360 minutes).
360 minutes of animation / 550 days = 0.65 minutes of animation created per day.
Assuming that trend continues and they wrap up animating sometime in September to allow time for final touches and fixes (iirc in BtR the team focused their efforts on final touches about two weeks before launch, so this provides a small cushion of time for hiccups in production), that gives Fortiche roughly 90 days between June and the end of September to complete the animation.
90 days x 0.65 minutes of animation a day = 58.5 minutes of new footage.
Combining 58.5 minutes with the (roughly) 360 minutes of animation they had during the publication of this article = 418.5 minutes or 7 (6.97) hours of footage.
So if we DO get 7 hours total of content by the end of production, that could either mean each episode clocks in at an average of ~47 minutes OR that the average hovers around the S1-typical 42-ish minutes and we get a whole extra episode to cap off the series.
I honestly don’t know what’s more likely, but I do know that Arcane’s finale season being “almost 6 hours” long is very unlikely given everything that has to happen.
TLDR; That one article noting that S2 is less than 6 hours long may be misinterpreted—it could be referring to how much completed footage they had back in June. I did the math and if they continued animating through September then we would be getting roughly 7 hours of total new footage, making a 10th episode a very real possibility.
