MLB x DC Universe Headcannons

I just love the idea of MLB and DC (expecially Batfam cuz Mari is such a Wayne) being in the same universe and crossing over. So one night, I just had an idea overload of different ways the Marinette would know the batfam/be a part of the DC universe. And if any of my shitty ideas somehow inspire or prompt you, then please be my guest. 😊 _

1) “Ladybugs of Past and Present”

Hippolyta, Wonder Woman’s mother, was once a previous holder of the ladybug miraculous. When Fu activated the miraculous and put them in circulation, Hippolyta could feel its magic waking back up. Knowing there must a reason for it to be out, she sent a message to her daughter. Diana searched, finding Marinette and Adrien as the present holders of the ladybug and cat miraculous. She vouched and brought them into the Young Justice program while they also made their own team, Project: Zodiac (or something like that).

[Sometime when Diana takes Marinette to meet Hippolyta]

“Great Hera, Tikki, you have not aged a day” -Hippolyta, cause she does know how to make joke.

“And I would say the same to you” -Tikki

“Mother, you can make a laugh?” -Wonder Woman, honestly a bit confused cause her mom have never not been serious before.

And Marinette is just speechless cause she’s starstruck meeting Wonder Woman’s mom AND a previous Ladybug holder.

2) “Rockstar Niece”

Jagged Stone is Marinette’s Sweet Uncle J. During the summers, Jagged Stone would take Mari with him on tour. HIs summer tours are throughout America, so Mari gets to sightsee the country. Jagged’s first tour that he gets to take Mari on (5-ish), he’s also booked for the annual (for whatever reason) Wayne Summer Gala. When Marinette meets the Waynes, they are so enamoured (Dick and Tim couldn’t help it) that they tell Jagged he’s always invited as a guest, Mari of course being added to the permanent guest list too. About 6 years later, Mari is practically adopted, spending the first half of her summers with Jagged, going to the Wayne Gala, then spending the rest of her summer with the Waynes. Overtime, she figured out the secrets of the family and was there to welcome Jason back from the dead (when that happens). Anyways, now 11(-ish?) Mari meets Damian and the two become good friends… after an… impressionable first meeting.

“Tch, let me guess, you’re another one of father’s adopted strays” -Dami

“YOU MUST BE DAMIAN!!! DICK TOLD ME ABOUT YOU!!” -Marinette, who just ignores what he said for a hug.

“hiiiiiiiiissssssss” -Dami, touchy with touch

“...” sprays water in his face since he decided to act like a cat.

“I say, Master Bruce, the children are getting along quite well” -Alfred

3) “Pen Pals”

Jon Kent and Marinette Dupain-Cheng are part of an international pen-pal program, starting when they were very young (maybe like 4 or 5-ish, super super young) where they told each other everything (Jon can’t just say that his older bro is a clone made from Superman and Lex Luthor’s DNA, or that his dad is Superman, or that his best friend is Robin, but yea. Lois and Clark probably proofread his stuff until he’s like 9) with pictures and everything. When they’re old enough to get phones & stuff, they call, text and vid-chat along with their letters (love without blood). When Mari is maybe 9-11 (somewhere around there) she starts flying over during the summers to hangout with Jon (and his friends and big brother). While there, she meets Kon, Bat fam, and Clark (some who she already knew, some who she didn’t) & lightly hints that she knows who all they are once she figures it out (it didn’t take her long to do so).

Now whenever she visits and is at Wayne Manor (Jon likes to have sleepovers practically every weekend) while they’re on patrol, Mari subtly messes with their minds (super subtle, they’re the world’s best detectives after all) until they finally look through the cams and see Mari giving them one of those smiles (those shit-grinning cause it’s just so hilarious how it’s gone on for so long) & and a playful wink.

[5 seconds later]

“Mari!” “Pixie-pop!” “Angel!” “Teacup!”

“Seriously, am I the only one with a normal nickname for her?” -Tim

“Ms. Marinette would like to inform you that ‘it took you long enough’” -Alfred (who so knows that the girl has been playing them since the third night she stayed at the Wayne’s)

“Where are my adoption papers?” -Bruce (who is seriously adopting any talented black-haired child)

4) “Mari and Mar’i”

When Mar’i is young, Dick and Kori take her with them to see Paris (btw, this would be during the winter). They’re strolling along through a park and lose track of Mar’i who finds Marinette (9-10 ish). Marinette comforts and distracts Mar’i while noticing the young(er) girl is Tameranian (her hair is very warm and she’s wearing significantly less layers than should be worn for a human of that age during the winter, plus that sun-kissed skin tone. She’s seen Kori in her fashion magazines (and, from time to time, on the news as an ambassador) so she easily make the connections). Dick and Kori finally spot Mar’i with Mari who introduces herself to them. Mar’i asks if she can see her “Auntinette” again and Marinette just goes “if your parents are okay with it.” Dick and Kori are totally cool with it (not many are willing to watch her and have the time to do it) so they ask Marinette if she can babysit Mar’i whenever (with good pay of course) if she’s up to it (cause she’s still pretty young). Marinette can’t say no to Mar’i’s babydoll eyes (and she’s so much easier compared to Manon, who’s only 2 rn), so of course, she says yes.

Now Marinette is Mar’is official babysitter and sees Mar’i often whenever her parents drop her off (using zeta tubes to quickly get to Paris and back). Marinette gets treated like an honorary Wayne (cause she’s the most responsible) and gets invited to their family stuff (w/ travel pay taken care of, of course). It doesn’t take her long to realize the fact that she babysits Bruce Wayne’s & BATMAN’S granddaughter, but of course, being the responsible one she is, keeps the secret… while also playing with them via Mar’i.

[One Day]

After Marinette leaves for her plane…

“Uncle Dami!”

“Yes, Spawn?”

“Auntinette said to tell you after she left that Robin’s sut needs a major upgrade & that you look like a traffic light… whatever that’s supposed to mean.”

[Another Day]

“Uncle Jay!”

“What’s up kid?’

“Auntinette said that to let you know that Red Hood doesn’t make any sense ‘cause Red Hood wears a helmet. Not a hood.”

[The next time]

“Uncle Tim!”

Yawn. “yea?”

“Auntie told me to give you this” (pulls out super caffeinated coffee) “and that Red Robin’s cowl is a menace to all things fashion”

[Again…]

“Daddy!”

“Yes, Starshine?”

“Auntienette said she’s proud of Nightwing’s costume ‘cause it’s one of the only in the batfam that isn’t an astro-city to the fashion society.”

5) “Marinette, the one who’s always getting chosen”

Before Mari became (becomes(?)) LB, she comes across a different powerful piece of jewelry, from a different order of guardians where her will of mind is not only her shield from being akumatized, but it is also what drives her powers. That’s right, Mari walks past a flea market and activates a GL ring. The guardians pick up on this activity and send Hal (it is his sector) to check it out. Hal finds the ring with Mari but it still needs the light of a GL to charge and fully work.

[During the explanation]

“Look, kid-”

“Marinette.”

“Look, kid, I just need to know why you have that ring.”

“You think I know? I was just walking through the market and all of a sudden, this possessed ring, if that’s even what this is, started following me, then zipped in front of my face til i held my hand up so it can put itself on my finger.”

“Kid-”

“It’s MARINETTE. Get it wrong one more time and you’ll see why I don’t need a possessed piece of alien jewelry.” -Marinette, making sure you get her name right. “Besides, if I stole it, I would remember. I’m a klepto” -Marinette, probably holding his ring too at this point.

Hal obviously doesn’t want the wrath of the Dupain-Chengs (just the kid Marinette scares him enough), so he tells the guardians that JL will take care of most of Mari’s training (once they get her a lamp for her ring, of course) & has her take part in training at Mt. Justice with the Young Justice team and special training with the Bats. Mari does all this under the guise of an international student exchange program for Mari to stay with the Waynes (not yet knowing that it’s the bat fam) and attends G.A. Mari doesn’t do much, but it takes her 24-36 hours to know who EVERYONE is.

[the next week after settling in]

“Hey, Mars,” -Dick, in his Nightwing gear

“Hey, Di-is the GREATEST SHOW!” -Mari, changing the subject(… not really)

“How long did it take you?”

“Not as long as the Kryptonians…” -Mari, going off into a tangent (still trying to change the subject”

[When Marinette meets Tikki]

Back in Paris:

“Sooo… I’m getting powerful jewelry that gives me powers and a suit, needs to be recharged, and comes from some Order of the Guardians? What’s the difference between you and my ring?” -Marinette, who at this point is very confused as to why she keeps getting picked on for this kind of stuff.

“One’s alien, one’s magic” -Tikki, hoping Mari will end it there & lowkey hates that the GL Corp. got to her first.

“They’re both non-human made energy sources” -Mari, cause once you’ve seen it once, you’ve seen it all before.

“You can’t heal the Akuma without the miraculous, and there are more than just rings. Yours are earrings, there are hair clips, bracelets, necklaces and more” -Tikki, after having a minute to think

“Fine, only because you said they’re the only way to heal the, what was it again, akuma?”

6) “Their Unofficial Official Barista”

Part of Tim’s job as Co-CEO, is to make sure all the branches are running smoothly, sometimes that means he has to fly abroad to manually check in. Tim goes to Paris to check on the W.E. Paris branch. He goes to a nearby Patisserie (Tom and Sabine’s) to see a young Marinette (somewhere from 8-11) drawing in her sketchbook at the counter. She explains that her parents are at a catering event, but she’s there to man the little bakery. Tim asks for a super caffeinated coffee and Marinette makes it with ease, claiming it was on the house with how bad he looks (and how much sleep the man clearly needs). Tim begs for her knowledge and asks if she can teach his butler. Mari’s willing to show him the next time he comes, so he gets the whole fam to go (viz tubes so they don’t waste time) maybe a week later. Everyone gets their own drink (plus a free pastries) and Marinette teaches Alfred her coffee, but it’s just not the same so Tim, using the tubes, goes to get coffee from the girl whenever he can.

Mari is horrible at getting up on time (the life of an insomniac, never getting to sleep even if you want and then barely waking up on time) that she is up super early, makes Tim his coffee (plus a croissant) and tries to go back to sleep (making her inevitably late). Tim would walk up to the pick-up counter where his cup and to-go bag is while Marinette runs out of the house to get to school. Eventually, the rest of the Batfam (as well as the Laegue, TT, and YJ) frequent the place, slowly becoming (Dami too) Mari hides it, but she knew all the batfam the first day they came and she showed Alfred how to make the coffee. When the others start making more regular appearances, she learns the identities of YJ team, WW, GLs, and others. Obviously when LB and CN appear as heroes with HM as their villain, they immediately reach out to help. Because 1. Batfam clearly notices that it’s Mari and they sure as heck won’t let her deal with that by herself, and 2. The JL is worrying too much about their favorite barista (even though she’s not really one), especially with the Gigantitan scare. So, of course LB & CN (can’t make him bad everytime) get inducted into YJ.

[After Ladybug finishes defeating Gigantitan and detransforms]

“Bean! Are you okay? You’re not hurt, are you?” -Tim, being an even more protective older brother than Dick, which shouldn’t be possible

“Yes, I promise. I’m fine” -Marinette, who just accepts the fact that she’s adopted an older brother (and his famliy)

“Tube over, we’ll have Alfred make sure” -Dick, already pulling out the medical supplies for Alfred.

“I-”

“You shouldn’t worry your brothers like that, Marinette. Now come over so Alfred can clear you,” -Bruce, who just happens to overhear the conversation

“I’m sorry, Miss Marinette, they are very adamant that you’re in pitch perfect health before going out again,” -Alfred, who’s not actually sorry

“Fine” -Marinette, accepting her fate of her adopted, protective family.

7) “Thicker Than the Blood We’ve Shed”

Why is Marinette so freakishly strong? Because she was trained to be. Before she could even talk, Mari was taught to be an assassin. She and Damian were frenemies, both competing for top spot as best in the League (of Assassins). They often spared together and became rivals who pushed each other (which sounds great in that context if you forget about the fact that they’re killing people and turning it into a competition). When Damian’s care is turned over to Batsy, Mari also comes along for the ride. She implements herself into Dami’s classes at G.A. & watches him from afar. (Damian, not being an idiot, of course knows all this and knows that it’s probably for Mari to give a report to Talia.) When he becomes Robin, Mari obviously knows, but waits to see if anything drastic would happen (his care was given to the Batfam, they had already expected this to happen.) She then heard word of the bounty Talia put on Damian’s head. Marinette knew there wouldn’t be much she could do to help, but she ave Dami a warning about the upcoming situation before fleeing the country.

From there she got to France, changed her name (it wasn’t originally Marinette, it was Shénqí, chinese for miraculous/magical (or something else if you want)), was adopted by Tom & Sabine, and left her time in the League in the past. When she received Tikki, she didn’t want to be a hero because she didn’t think she deserved it after her up-bringing. Eventually, she did become LB (being a trained assassin does help with lucky charms, considering she was taught how to kill with basically every and anything), and life was good for her. Then Rossi came.

[Gotham field trip]

While at Wayne Tower…

“How idiotic are they?” -Damian, who after reuniting with his long-lost sister-from-a-different-mister (yes, Marinette was able to convince him to say it once), can’t understand the stupidity she has to deal with.

“Are you Robin?” -Mari, who is too tired, so just goes straight into the analogy

“Yes.” -Obvious and simply is.

“Exactly” -Mari, who can’t even put a limit to the amount of thought the one brain cell the class shares doesn’t use. I mean please, the so-called “reporter” believed that the first cosplayer she saw was the actual LB when they don’t even have the same hair! And let’s not forget the origins arc, where LB’s first citizen save was Chloe.

Utd vs Reading 02/02/2020

Or, as @danieljamesmufc so eloquently put it, ‘The Battle of The Baes’ (Baes in question obviously being Amy Turner and Angharad James)

Anywho, there isn’t much of a ~detailed~ analysis like other pieces have had. A lot of the plays (and therefore, issues) are the same every game, and I don’t wanna keep repeating myself by making the same points week in and week out. Also, this game was kinda scrappy and not much really happened - until the end but we will get there in due time. I have a LOT of thoughts about the end of this game.

Few small changes in the XI - due to McManus picking up an injury vs Chelsea, Amy came back in at CB which was just

And then I saw Harris at RB 😐 I think I’ve made my feelings about that very clear, and I don’t wanna start hating on Martha for the sake of it, but Smith is the better of the two imo. And I just can’t see why Casey keeps insisting on playing TWO natural RB’s when she has a natural LB sitting on the bench ALL THE TIME, collecting splinters in her arsecheeks. It’s annoying, and I’m kinda sick of it.

Lizzie Arnot dropped out of the XI, in favour of Jane Ross for this one, and everything else was pretty much the same as Wednesday night.

Also, and I would really appreciate some help/info/whatever you’ve all got for this, but I was under the impression that Amy couldn’t (or at least, wasn’t really supposed to) play 3 games in one week? I’m like 90% sure that Casey benched her a few times in the second half of last season for this exact reason? Apparently that’s down to the knee injury she had a few years ago, but I would appreciate some clarification on this if anyone has anything 🧐

Also (I’m being annoying now, sorry) but this commentator was... bad. Mispronuncing players names (who is Jackie Groinen?), not even bothering to try and pronounce others (here’s looking at you, Angharad James), misidentifying players, just not really knowing what was happening a solid 83% of the time... idk who she is but she needs to not commentate on a United game again, I can’t listen to her. Girl had some, interesting, opinions too, and I’m quoting her directly now, “United will think that they’re due a defeat” 🧐 I’m not entirely sure how, or why, that would be the case, but apparently both United and Reading have alternating W/L runs in the league and today was Reading’s turn to win? I was confused. I still kinda am. And I didn’t like it.

First half:

The first 10 mins of this were pretty boring tbh. There was an awful lot of back and forth, misplaced passes, interceptions and the like. I think United were just on top in the opening few minutes, judging by the amount of time they spent in Reading’s half, and their possession.

‘8 - Corner and a free kick for United in quick succession. Nothing came from either (surprise surprise), but there was a lovely bit of ball control in the box from Ross after the FK. Just couldn’t get it to Sigsworth (who probably would have scored but we don’t need to talk about it)

‘13 - Another potential Ross/Sigsworth link up in the box but Ross just swept it straight into the legs of a Reading player, instead of passing to Jess on her left 🤷🏽‍♀️ I thought she was okay today, so I won’t give her too much grief for that mistake

‘16 - decent chance for Sigsworth, ended up launching it straight at *insert Reading player here.* Foreal, I have no idea who it was. Sorry. Groenen and Zelem both had decent opportunities following this, but nothing came of either of those

‘17 - Another corner for Utd, wasn’t a great delivery to be honest. Was played out and worked back in, LJ managed to get a shot off but sent it behind with a deflection so yet more corners followed. With nothing coming from any of them - this is starting to be a problem. We never challenge from set pieces, and I’m genuinely starting to wonder why that is? Does someone else need to take them? Or what?

There was *a lot* of midfield action around this time, more back and forth, a few fouls, and free kicks. None of this was noteworthy, hence the lack of notes.

‘21 - Amy stop backpassing challenge. I gave Abbie SO much shit for this vs City and Chelsea (as well as vs Spurs, oops), so I guess it’s Amy’s turn now. Sidenote: I think ‘Turner & Turner’ is my fave chant, the original at least. No disrespect to Abbie but seeing Turner x2 at CB on the teamsheet has me like

‘28 - Earps’ clearnances need work. Like, a lot of work. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m never fully convinced by the ball that leaves her feet, and I don’t think she is either which is an issue 😬

‘29 - GOAL - United. I was literally just making a note on how boring I was finding this game - my highlight by the 28 minute mark was Amy lashing her boot into Tash Harding’s face. Lol. - when Lauren James appears literally out of nowhere and lashes one home. A gorgeous strike, cutting in from the left. This kid is lethal.

‘38 - Today I learned that we really only have one fast defender - Millie. Martha somehow outpaced Amy back with Reading on the break and I think my jaw hit the floor.

‘41 - United have the ball in the back of the net again. Amy got under a well struck free from Zelem and fired it home, but somehow was ruled offside. Clearly this ref and I have very, very different opinions about what the offisde rule actually constitutes, cause she was very much clearly onside.

I just. I’m highkey so annoyed. And I’m definitely dragging this out but like

Moving on. That concluded a pretty uneventful half, aside from the goal and the offside that wasn’t actually offside.

Halftime:

Reading made a pretty interesting change at the half, subbing Haz off for LMKU. Maybe LMKU offers more of a threat going forward, but I thought Haz was pretty solid in the first half? She was certainly a lot better today than she was in the reverse fixture - she was shredded by Galton on every single run but I didn’t see her do anything like that this time? Anyway. (Also I’m lowkey sad Amy never got to slide tackle her into the middle of next week)

Second half:

‘47 - Quality build up work down the left and a gorgeous ball into the box from LJ, I fortune my it just brushed past Sigsworth and Ross in the 6 yard box/penalty area. So close to a second for United.

‘51 - a pretty poor free kick from Zelem, and a pretty poor decision and back pass from James. Sometimes I wonder if people on this team think about what they’re doing before they do it 🤗

‘53 - decent chance for Reading, which ultimately comes off the back post. United very lucky to get away with that one.

‘59 - Harris was very far forward there for a time. Like in the opposition box forward. Hello, anxiety. Also Amy nearly body checked someone around the same time and I was truly living my best life.

‘61 - Zel with a decent free kick, just couldn’t get the dip it needed to hit the back of the net

‘62 - another good strike from LJ, unfortunately just straight at the keeper.

‘63 - Penalty - Reading. Yellow for Amy for pushing Utland (I didn’t catch who it actually was, but according to Reading’s twitter it was LMKU) and conceding the pen.

‘64 - MARY EARPS SAFE HANDS LET’S GOOOO 🗣👏🏽🔥 What a save, my god. I was sure that was going in, but I’ve never been happier to be proven wrong in my life.

‘75 - another great chance for LJ - a lovely strike, think it could have done with a little bit of a chip, and then surely it was going in. Good work from Jess and Jackie in the build up too

‘76 - ‘82. This is where shit got crazy. And I really have no words for what I saw during this 6 minutes. Well, I do have words - I have a lot of them - but most of them aren’t suitable for this platform so I’ll just keep those ones to myself. Never in all my life have I seen such incompetent refereeing. A free kick awarded to Reading on the edge of the box, due to a ‘handball’ (that didn’t happen) by Lauren James, is cleared and HEADED away by Katie Zelem. The ref then proceeds to book Zelem for handball which, unless she suddenly has a third arm growing out of her FACE (I can confirm - she does not), makes absolutely zero sense, and awards Reading another penalty.

Jess also managed to get herself booked for questioning the ref’s decision and defending Katie sjsjsj, and not a single Reading player made a claim for that penalty. Surely, if she had handled the ball, every Reading player in the box would have appealed for it? You can clearly see the ball hit her head in the video linked below, but apparently the arm bone is now connected to the face bone, at least according to this ref anyway. 🙄

I have no more thoughts on whatever happened after that because I had to turn it off before they scored that penalty, otherwise I would have drop kicked my laptop out my window. For what it’s worth, I did think Martha had a decent game today. I still want Smith at RB and Lotta at LB while Amy’s at CB though. You can’t make me change my mind 🤗

This is the third time this week alone that United have been robbed by poor referees, and apparently the ref of the City/Arsenal game today wasn’t much better. I didn’t see that game so I can’t really comment, but I don’t doubt those claims. The standard and quality of refereeing I’ve seen over the past 2 seasons since my introduction to women’s football has been appalling. And it’s not fair, I think this tweet pretty much sums it up.

The FA has pretty much demanded that every team/club in the WSL be full time, it’s about time that they demand the same qualifications and high quality from their officials, because this just isn’t good enough. And not just from the standpoint of a United fan, and in the context of today’s result, but league wide. It’s just not good enough. I’m completley here for literally everybody calling this shambles out for what it is, and the United girls being salty af on the tl.

Sorry that is this kinda long and ranty, but I’m in my feelings about this ref. ✌🏽

The Chat of Monte Carlo

This was written for @auyeahaugust Day 10: Secret Agents. It is somewhat suggestive, so keep that in mind before choosing to read. Read on AO3 here

“Well, chaton, what do you think?”

Ladybug scanned the room from her spot in the corner. The ballroom in Hôtel Hermitage was as opulent as the rest of the building, but she was well trained in not letting her awe show.

Chat Noir’s voice came through her earpiece as if he were standing next to her. “I think you look stunning in red. Surely I’ve told you that before.”

Ladybug rolled her eyes but hid her smile behind her champagne flute. For this job she needed to blend in to the wealthy crowd, but not stand out more than any of the other opulently clothed women. She personally disagreed with the idea of a bright red gown if the idea was discretion, but Tikki, her desk agent, had assured her that it would be fine. Besides, the dress waiting for her in the small hotel room in Nice was gorgeous, and she would be a fool as a person and as an aspiring fashion designer not to wear it. It was sleek and rather modest, with an embellished bodice and three quarter length sleeves and a small peplum at her waist.

Next to most of the women in their designer ball gowns, she barely stood out.

“I meant do you have eyes on the target?” she muttered in response to him. All she knew was that the comb they were supposed to be obtaining would be on the head of a blonde woman around her age. Her cursory glance around the room showed many blondes, but neither of the two blondes she wanted to see.

“Also remind me why you are waltzing around with a tray of drinks while I have to smile and pose?” This was a simple, but unusual mission for Ladybug. She was quickly gaining the reputation as the agency’s strongest player, and was often sent on reconnaissance and assassination missions. They typically didn’t involve parties for the rich and famous in Monaco, and the acquisition of a small piece of jewelry. She had no idea how this was helping to take down Hawkmoth. But Ladybug knew by now that Master Fu had his reasons for everything, even if she didn’t understand them.

The other unusual part of this mission was that she and Chat Noir were split up. When they were paired together, they were usually given the opportunity to actually work with one another, but here she was nodding her head at dignitaries while he was somewhere with the kitchen staff.

Chat’s laugh was clear in her ear. “I can’t be Chat Noir with this crowd,” he said enigmatically. “As a waiter, I’m invisible, which is what I need to be with these folks. Top of the room, buy the windows.”

His sudden change in tone alerted her to move, and she started making her way around the perimeter of the room. Ladybug was not interested in having to make any more small talk with the other guests, and the cover story that had been constructed for her reason to be invited to such an exclusive affair felt sticky on her tongue.

A waiter with a tray of paté was coming toward her. Ladybug quickly drained her champagne and set the empty flute down on his tray. He glanced up at her, his green eyes bright under his bangs, and she let her fingers linger over the ring on his right hand before they separated. Chat’s hair was longer and shaggier than usual, and he was dressed in solid black: a button down with the sleeves rolled and a sleek vest over it, trousers, and patent shoes. The only exception was a pure white bow tie at his neck.

“You look pretty good in a uniform, minou.”

“You should have seen me in the police officer getup last month,” he answered automatically. She glanced back quickly to see that he was already on the other side of the room, but noticed that he was looking her way. He winked.

Ladybug shook her head as she walked toward the windows. Not for the first time, she wondered who Chat Noir was when he wasn’t working as an agent. Marinette Dupain-Cheng was an anonymous Parisian, which made it easy for her to be Ladybug. Chat had dropped hints, like the one before, that he was someone who fit in and would be recognized in these exclusive social circles.

Chat was a mystery. She didn’t always work with him, but he was by far her favorite to team up with. Carapace was good for tech jobs, and she got along really well with Rena, but Chat made the job fun, despite what had happened the first time they worked together. That was a day she would never forget, but it meant more than she could describe in words that Chat was the one to help her through it. Perhaps because of that, she trusted him more than anyone else. She hated that she never knew when she was going to see him, or even if they would ever be paired up again.

Ladybug’s attention was suddenly pulled to a woman by the window, her blonde hair piled up on her head in an elaborate updo. Her gown was voluminous and bulky, a flashy yellow tulle skirt taking up most of the space around her. A gleaming comb was nestled in her hair.

“Spotted,” Ladybug whispered, hoping Chat enjoyed the little joke. His chuckle told her that he did.

“Work your magic, LB.”

Ladybug made eye contact with the woman, sending her a friendly smile. The blonde raised one delicate eyebrow, her gaze traveling down Ladybug’s dress before sneering. “Something tells me you would have better luck with this woman.”

Chat laughed again. “Unfortunately, you’re right. But we go way back, there’s no way she wouldn’t recognize me.”

Ladybug was curious about that, but didn’t say anything as she pulled her purse open to see what Tikki had given her this time. A pair of reading glasses were nestled between a pack of tissues and her burner phone. She slid them on her face. A tint of green was over the lenses. Night vision.

An idea sparked in her mind. “Chaton, is there an electricity breaker near you?”

He hummed while looking. “Give me a minute.” Ladybug patiently waited, turning her body to look out the window while making sure to not let her target out of her sight. “So…” Chat began, “I was thinking maybe after this you and I could grab a bite to eat. Café de Paris is open until 2.”

That was… new. And potentially dangerous. This was a lonely job, and they weren’t meant to be friends outside of a mission. Or anything more than friends. She knew that Chat was attracted to her, and she knew that he made her feel more alive than anyone else. It could get dangerous very quickly.

It was a good thing she liked danger. “Depends how quickly you can cut the – ” The lights cut out before she finished her sentence.

“Sixty seconds before the generator kicks in.” Chat’s voice in her ear spurred her to move, and she quickly darted forward, able to see through the panic of the guests due to her enhanced glasses. She quickly stepped forward toward her target, swiping the comb off her head.

Ladybug was on the other side of the room when the lights came on, her glasses and the comb tucked into her purse.

She walked at a leisurely pace, listening idly to the conversations of other people, speculating about why the power surged. She slipped unnoticed out of the ballroom, and around the corridors to the lobby.

“All set, M’lady?” Ladybug hummed, smiling gratefully at the doormen as she exited the building.

“Yes, what a lovely evening it is,” she commented. She paused for a moment to look at the sky, which had just darkened despite the late hour, before making her way toward the sea bank.

“I’m sure,” Chat said. “So are we on for eating?”

The air by the docks smelled like the ocean. “Don’t you have a shift to finish, garçon?”

“I can be there in 20 minutes.”

She spotted Wayzz on the deck of a yacht. She didn’t acknowledge him.

“Give me a half hour. I need to get out of this dress.”

“I was hoping you would say that.”

Ladybug woke up to bright sunlight streaming through the terrace doors. She was confused for a moment, as the room she was in was far nicer than the one the agency reserved for her in Nice.

A glance at who she was laying on reminded her of the night before.

Judging by the color of the sky, it was much later in the morning than she would have liked. Chat was warm underneath her, and she snuggled into him. One hand rested on her lower back, fingers splayed, the other was slowly and rhythmically stroking her hair. It almost lulled her back to sleep before she realized his movement meant he was already awake.

“Shit.”

“Good morning to you too,” he said, his voice light. She looked up at his face. When Chat had met her in the restaurant last night, he was almost unrecognizable from the waiter at the party. His shaggy hair was back to short and meticulously combed (“extensions?” she had exclaimed), and he had rid himself of the white bow tie and popped a few buttons. Thankfully he had kept the vest. She could blame that for her lack of self control.

Now, he looked much less put together. His hair was rumpled, his eyes were sleepy, and his smile was far too sweet and innocent.

“What?” He asked when she didn’t respond. She propped her chin on his chest. His hand was still running through her hair.

“I don’t usually do this,” she answered. He smirked. “I mean the whole cuddling-morning-after sweetness. It’s not my MO.”

“So I should count myself lucky you didn’t bail before sunrise?”

Ladybug hummed, not mentioning that had been her plan.

“You seem to be doing pretty good at it right now,” Chat commented. She could hear the laughter in his voice.

“You’re warm, the air is kind of chilly. That’s all.”

“I see.”

They lay in silence for a moment. Ladybug tried to decide what to do. She didn’t think she could stand it if she never worked with him again, but how awkward would it be to see each other and pretend this never happened? It wasn’t like there were other options; they were secret government agents. She didn’t know his name, or what he did for his day job, or how he could afford a sea view suite in L’Hotel de Paris. And that wasn’t supposed to change.

Chat was watching her carefully. He leaned down and kissed her, soft and sweet. It was something that Marinette, before being hardened into Ladybug, would have loved.

She pushed herself up so she was hovering over him, trying to deepen the kiss because she just couldn’t stand how gentle he was. Chat pulled back, his hand moving so his thumb could graze her cheek.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“If I need to tell you, then I don’t know how to explain last night,” she responded.

Chat smiled. “Not everything has to be the maximum, LB. I wanted to kiss you just for the purpose of kissing you. Nothing more.”

Ladybug regarded him carefully. “You’re not what I expected,” she muttered, not moving from her position above him. He tipped his head to the side in question. He looked like his code name. “You’re softer,” She elaborated.

His smile was back to achingly sweet. “Is that a bad thing?”

Ladybug sighed, letting herself drop back down to rest on him. “I don’t want to hurt you, Chat, and I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize what we have. But I don’t know how to handle a relationship, especially not one with a co-worker. I’m too stubborn, too independent...” She trailed off at the look on his face. “What?”

“You think I don’t know all that already?” He asked. His hand had never left her back, and it felt like it was burning. “You think that doesn’t make you a million times better in my eyes?”

“Chat...” She didn’t know what to say. He seemed content to let her figure it out, and resumed stroking her hair. She could see the tip of a sailboat on the sea. “So what does this make us? Lovers?”

He stilled at the word. “I was hoping you would be interested in the title of girlfriend.” She felt her heartbeat increase, and Chat seemed to understand. “What about partners?”

Ladybug smiled. “Partners.”

She looked at him, his green eyes sparking and a happy smile on his face. She kissed him then, just because she wanted to kiss him.

The 7 dumbest mistakes from NFL Week 17, ranked

The Seahawks got it wrong at the 1-yard line again, and the Browns are looking for a new coach. What better way to pay tribute to the last week of the 2010s?

Endings are hard to get right. Well, except maybe if you’re Damon Lindelof (yes, even the Lost finale). Goodbyes are even harder.

Although we have to close the book on another NFL season, and an entire decade now, we can take comfort in two things:

1) the playoffs are coming, and 2) the last Sunday of the 2019 season went out with a bang.

The Patriots got Fitzmagic’d AT HOME and missed out on a first-round bye for the first time in 10 years. Christian McCaffrey became the NFL’s third ever 1,000/1,000 player. Jameis Winston became the NFL’s first ever 30-30 quarterback. The 49ers and Seahawks battled to the 1-inch line to wrap up the playoff picture.

Despite those surprises, there were other moments that felt like a tribute to the 2010s as a whole. The Titans fulfilled their 9-7 destiny, the Lions blew it against the Packers, the Seahawks screwed up at the 1-yard line, and the Browns fired another coach.

So much of what happened Sunday was stressful, thrilling, and incredibly stupid. In other words, it was the perfect way to send out 2019.

Before we head into 2020, let’s take a look at the final dumbest mistakes of the regular season:

7. The Bengals couldn’t even celebrate a win right

The Bengals had already secured the top pick in the draft last week. Then they went ahead and won a meaningless game in Week 17, just for the heck of it.

After taking the final kneeldown to beat the Browns and double their win total, the Bengals managed to bungle their celebration.

That’s running back Joe Mixon taking off his helmet to fling it up in the air. But he wasn’t paying attention and he bowled over a referee with the dang thing. The ref went to the ground immediately. Whoops!

At least Mixon went on to apologize on Twitter.

6. Lol, the Chargers used a linebacker to cover Tyreek Hill

The Chargers had just scored a touchdown to cut their deficit against the Chiefs to 24-21. The Chiefs, who needed a win and a New England loss to lock down a first-round bye, were looking at third-and-7 late in the fourth quarter.

That’s when the Chargers inexplicably assigned rookie linebacker Drue Tranquill to Tyreek Hill, one of the fastest receivers in the NFL. His nickname is “Cheetah,” after all. The result was a complete mismatch, and a gain of 47(!) yards:

Five plays later, the Chiefs scored to go up 31-21 and snag that No. 2 seed.

We don’t think any future opposing defenses will try that again anytime soon. Or at least they shouldn’t.

5. Sam Darnold wasted a scoring chance by taking a bad sack

The Jets didn’t need much offense to get out in front of the Bills. With Josh Allen on the bench and Matt Barkley under center, Buffalo was shut out in the first half of Week 17. That could’ve meant a 10-0 hole at halftime, if Darnold hadn’t messed it up.

With just a little over 10 seconds left, the Jets should’ve had two more shots at the end zone before a short field goal. An ill-timed sack by the Bills’ Trent Murphy killed that opportunity.

Darnold has to get the ball out of his hand fast or feel the pressure coming. He did neither and the Jets settled for a 34-yard field goal try, which Sam Ficken missed. Despite an eventual win for the Jets, a matchup against Buffalo’s backups shouldn’t have been this difficult.

4. David Blough and Danny Amendola gifted the Packers a short field

Blough is an undrafted rookie who was thrust into the Lions’ starting quarterback role thanks to injuries to Matthew Stafford and Jeff Driskel. As such, he’s prone to ... uh, teachable moments. Like this one, where in a quest to protect a 20-13 lead with eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter, he uncorked this unanswered prayer.

Not only did Blake Martinez (two career interceptions before Sunday) return Blough’s pick near midfield, but a stupid late hit penalty on Danny Amendola — who took his frustrations out on Kevin King by blasting him after the whistle — set up Aaron Rodgers at the Detroit 40-yard line. Seven plays later, this game was tied.

The Packers went on to win, despite once again never leading against the Lions.

3. Tom Brady chose a bad time for his first pick-six against the Dolphins

Oh hi, in case you missed it, the New England Patriots lost to the Miami Dolphins. During the second quarter with his team trailing 3-0, Brady threw a pick-six to safety (and former Patriot) Eric Rowe:

That was the first time in Brady’s playing career that he had ever thrown a pick-six against the Dolphins, a team he’s faced 35 times. It also was his first pick-six since 2017, and the 14th of his career.

And in a game that was ultimately decided by three points, it’s that kind of mistake that’s the difference — not just between a win and a loss, but between a first-round bye and having to host the Titans in the Wild Card Round.

2. The Browns only had 10 men on defense at the goal line

The Browns fired Freddie Kitchens just hours after losing 33-23 to Cincinnati. This didn’t help his case. In the first quarter, the Bengals went up 14-7 on this touchdown run, aided by the Browns only having 10 men on defense:

Mixon took it right up the middle for an easy touchdown in what turned out to be a 162-yard game for him. Here’s another look at the play — just, yeesh:

Even worse is Kitchens had called a timeout literally the play before and the defense was still a mess. Usually, most teams don’t screw up something that simple in Week 17.

On the other hand, that sums up another coaching era that Browns fans would love to forget.

1. The Seahawks’ delay of game penalty probably cost them the NFC West

Sunday night’s 49ers-Seahawks game will go down as one of the best Week 17 finales in league history, with San Francisco winning 26-21 to earn the NFC’s No. 1 seed. The game came down to the wire, and a late penalty might’ve cost Seattle the win and the division title.

With 23 seconds left on the 49ers’ 1-yard line, the Seahawks spiked the ball with no timeouts. Head coach Pete Carroll wanted to put running back Marshawn Lynch in for what could’ve been an easy goal-line score. Lynch, in his much-celebrated return to Seattle, had already scored on a 1-yard run earlier in the quarter. Another chance to do that, in this situation, wouldn’t just help the Seahawks take the NFC West crown, but it’d also give Carroll a chance to rectify the most infamous moment in the franchise’s history.

Then, miscommunication doomed them as the Seahawks tried to substitute Lynch on the field when he either wasn’t ready to go or no one let him know.

When Lynch got on the field, there were only 10 seconds left on the play clock. That didn’t give the Seahawks much time in the huddle and they got hit with a delay of game penalty. Take a look at how much time runs off the game and play clock:

Head coach Pete Carroll admitted the mistake after the game:

That penalty backed them up to the 6-yard line, and instead of a punch-in score, Russell Wilson threw two incomplete passes, and then one last pass to Jacob Hollister that was ultimately short of the goal line.

Maybe one of these days the Seahawks will figure out what to do with Lynch at the 1-yard line. Maybe one of these days they won’t pay a steep price for a goal-line failure. Sunday was not one of those days.

Tuesday May 9-Sunday May 14 Woohoo, today's the day Mary comes!!! After graduating from UConn on Sunday the 7th, Mary unpacked all of her college belongings only to re-pack for London. A few of the many things we did over the last 5 days: -Stonehenge 🗿 -Sketch -Oxford St 🛍 -Westminster -Platform 9 3/4 -Bowling w CIEE 🎳 -Afternoon tea at The Orangery 🍵 -Matilda 🔮 -221B Baker St -SSE Women's Cup Final ⚽️🏆 I took the tube to Heathrow and ended up picking Mary up at her terminal. I (as well as the Heathrow staff) was confused about whether or not a flight from Dublin was considered international or not, so I stood on the opposite side of where I was supposed to be until Mary texted me saying she had collected her luggage and was waiting. She also said she hadn't gone through customs and wasn't sure if she should go back in. I was shocked since border control is quite strict in the U.K., but since Dublin isn't considered an international flight, Mary had technically gone through customs in Ireland. We took the tube back home and went straight to King's Cross/St. Pancras to board a train to Salisbury, en route to Stonehenge! The train ride was about 1 1/2 hours and before we knew it, we were in Salisbury. We boarded the Stonehenge tour bus (it takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the Visitor's Center) and got to listen to some audio that gave us more information about the site and neighboring town. We hopped off at the visitor's center and grabbed a quick bite to eat. I got a steak pie which was delicious, and Mary got a sandwich that she really enjoyed! We picked up our tickets and boarded a golden bus to the actual rocks. The ride was short and once we got off the bus, the rocks were only 100 feet in front of us. I had heard that the audio tour was something worth getting, so we had our little telephone like sets and made our way around the area; since the ground isn't stable enough to support thousands of people, you can't actually walk through the rocks, but you can get pretty close. We listened, took a break sitting, snapped lots of pics, and had a great afternoon! We spent some time in Salisbury and went to The King's Head (pub recommended by the bus driver) for dinner and I got tomato soup and (spicy 🌶) wings. We boarded the train back to Waterloo in London, and only 15 minutes later I couldn't find my phone. I went through my whole backpack and checked under my seat and it wasn't there. I was panicking and knew it had to be at the train station since I had used my phone for directions from the pub to the train station. We got off at the next stop and had to wait and excruciating 40 minutes for the next train back to Salisbury. I ran through the station back to the bench we had been sitting on before we got onto the train and my phone was sitting right there where I had left it. God, am I lucky or what?! It's safe to say I had a good night's sleep that night. We got back to London an hour later than we had anticipated and went right to bed. The next morning we met up with Christine and Amanda at Sketch, a fancy restaurant in London right off of Oxford street. Sketch is known for its pink tea room and egg pod bathrooms. I had toast and bacon for breakfast which was good but nothing special. After waiting until the tea took opened, we finally made our way to the iconic bathroom. It was so cool! I accidentally used the men's side but how can you really tell when the pods all look the same? We took lots of pics and then Mary and I walked around Oxford and Bond street. Mary bought some Chelsea boots and Schuh and I got some tanks and a pair of jeans at New Look. I also got a waffle with chocolate sauce, strawberries, and Nutella ice cream which was delicious! I had class in the afternoon, so Mary went to the British Museum which is conveniently right across from CIEE, where I have class. We went to Pizza Union for dinner and then headed to Chinatown after for bubblewrap, basically ice cream in a waffle. The line wasn't too long, maybe 25 minutes or so, and the dessert was so good! I was surprised by how tasty the waffle was- it was sweet, warm, and soft. We walked around Chinatown/Soho for a little bit but it was chilly so we headed back to Chapter afterwards. On Thursday morning I had class, so Mary slept in and went to the British Library (only a 5-10 minute walk from Chapter). We explored Westminster, walking by the London Eye, Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and ended up at Buckingham Palace after walking through Saint James Park, enjoying all of the birds and ducks. After getting off at King's Cross we waited in line to get our picture at Platform 9 3/4. Mary and I got our jumping pic. We were both exhausted and rested for a few minutes before walking back to CIEE in Bloomsbury for the farewell dinner. We met up with everyone and walked to dinner which was at a bowling alley! We were served lots of small appetizers ranging from crab cakes, pulled pork sandwiches, fried chicken on skewers, and fried mac & cheese balls. I had a handful of pulled pork and chicken as well as a beer and 1/3 a (fruity & delicious) cider I shared with Mary. After eating, we all picked teams and started bowling. Although I hadn't been bowling in some 5-10 years, I was better than I thought I would be. There were no bumpers, and I ended up with 70. Pretty bad but I was happy I actually knocked some pins down. We were exhausted after waiting some 20 minutes for the tube home. Since it was the last night everyone in the program would be together, we all went out. Mary decided to stay in, and as much as I wanted to join her I knew that I would have regretted it had I not gone. I also had a lot of tequila and a whole bottle of wine that I didn't want to waste. Our group basically took up half the dance floor at some point, and we got 2 free shots since they overcharged me at the door. That morning Mary and I got afternoon tea at The Orangery. I wasn't able to make my 9 am class, but don't worry, it was only a walking tour and James had said that it wasn't mandatory. I had book an appointment for 11:15 am, but they didn't start afternoon tea until noon, so we had something small to hold us over until 12:00. I got some Royal something (I forget the name, lol) tea and it was delicious! I never used to be a fan of tea, but I enjoyed it the last time I was in London two years ago. We had little sandwiches, scones, and desserts. They portions are tiny but with all of the food you're sure to be full at the end. After tea, we walked around Hyde Park for a bit before heading to Harrods. I wasn't able to go the last time I was in London and although I can't afford anything in the department store, it was cool walking around and starting at all of the chocolates that cost £90 a box. We headed back to Chapter afterwards and rested for a few minutes before walking back to the GI for my last class! We just watched some British news comedy show for an hour or so before he ended class early (thank god). We met up with Christine and Rex at a pub nearby for fish & chips before heading to Cambridge Theatre to see Matilda. Matilda is quite new to the stage and everyone at the ticket office had said that it was wonderful and that they highly recommended it. I'm not sure where to begin by describing the play, I'll start by saying that it was somewhat strange but in a good way. Some of the music numbers were fantastic and the choreography was well done! Most of the cast consisted of children, and Miss Truchbull was played by a man. The play was very funny at times and the actors that played Miss Trunchbull and Mr. Wormwood were perfect for the role. We also got some Oreo McFlurries after the show! It was so stressful packing the night before moving out but thankfully Mary was able to fit a good amount of my winter clothes and jackets into her suitcase! After scrambling around to fit three month's worth of stuff into a mere two suitcases and a backpack, alas I got the suitcases zipped by sitting on them! However, my large suitcase was a jaw dropping 72 lbs! I was dying laughing. How did I possibly accumulate more than 25 lbs worth of stuff?! I bought a few jackets and clothes, but I didn't think they would have amassed a shocking 25-30 lbs. Who knows. We left our bags behind the front desk and walked around Covent Garden, where we got brunch at a cute diner. I was exhausted after getting about 5 hours of sleep, so thanks to Mary's suggestion, I got a mocha to help wake me up. I was surprised that I liked it! We both had a great breakfast and proceeded to make our way to the Covent Garden market area. Mary had some Ben's Cookies (so delicious & gooey) and then we took the tube to Baker Street (221 B) aka the Sherlock Holmes door. We got our pics and then headed back to Chapter to grab our bags to check into our Airbnb. Silly us, we took the tube and DRL with all of our luggage when we should have just taken an Uber and paid the £20some pounds it would've cost. Lugging my freaking heavy suitcase up and down stairs at the tube stations was a nightmare. Luckily, some people helped me out a lot by carrying my large luggage for me since the lifts were under construction, of course. We finally checked in and had a little while to rest before leaving for Wembley Stadium. We had ticket to see the SSE Women's FA Final Cup!
