to the random ass proshippers

I’ll block proshippers and I won’t throw any first punches if I find the accounts. Just block n’ move on. Think what you want, but think it away from me. This is for the ppl who are going after others both anonymously and in the open, and being insistent about misunderstanding his character. It is absolutely absurd that some are really trying to PUSH the mere implication that the Postal Dude could be a pedo/have pedophilic tendencies, or that “it makes sense for him”. Some of you are ragebait I’m sure, but I also sadly think some of you are really genuine. And this is also the last I am going to speak about it. Just wanted to do something longer on behalf of everyone else who does not agree with this random influx.

The Postal Dude is obviously designed to be an ambiguous character, allowing players to project various characteristics onto him. HOWEVER, this doesn't mean that any and all negative traits can be justified. Ambiguity in character design is meant to give freedom in interpretation, but it doesn't equate to carte blanche for projecting extreme or inappropriate characteristics that aren't supported by the game’s narrative or the developer's intent. Assuming that a character would commit any and all bad acts simply because they commit some is a lazy and inaccurate approach to understanding character design.

The argument that, "Durrr he’s literally a mass shooter, why is it so far-fetched for him to be a pedo too?" is a slippery slope fallacy. It’s that same exact shit all the edgelords try to use when they say (just so they can justify attacking any queer fans, same way SOME proshippers want to feel justified in attacking those who disagree), “The Postal Dude SPECIFICALLY hates gay people and trans people and wouldn’t support them at all/be grossed out by them! Why? Uhh, because he’s literally an evil, vile character! Duh!” Sure he is. No denying that. And sure, you can think that about him. But it’s just fundamentally inaccurate. Just because the games allow for extreme behaviors doesn’t mean they endorse or include every possible immoral action.

And just because a character engages in morally questionable actions doesn’t logically lead to them engaging in the worst possible behaviors. The creator's stance is crucial in defining the boundaries of the character. If the creators have explicitly stated that Postal Dude would never engage in pedophilia (just like how they explicitly stated he wasnt transphobic) and that such content would never be included in the game, this is a definitive limitation on what the character can be reasonably interpreted as. Again, I don’t care if you hold a private opinion that differs. But when you start accusing those who disagree with this extreme interpretation of being the weird or wrong ones, that’s where it becomes an issue.

Dude's actions, while extreme, are presented within a certain context that aims to criticize or mock certain aspects of society. Pedophilia is not something that fits within this satirical style. Yes, even for Postal 1997. I don't care if it is generally considered more "serious" than other games, they still had Dude throwing out stupid-ass catchphrases in a silly radio-host-sounding voice that was obviously supposed to be a stark contrast to what was happening on screen (“Buttsauce”. “Smells like chicken” when burning NPCs. Really now? Go ahead and listen to more from the original. They’re all silly one-liners.). It was a shock at the time and a bit of dark humor. Following games only increased this aspect.

All in all, Postal Dude’s actions, while immoral, are usually presented in a way that allows for some level of detachment or absurdity, keeping them within the realm of dark comedy. Yes, 1997 is still included here. It’s an absurd game. One man took out hundreds of people and was armed to the teeth, even with literal rocket launchers. His main weapon has infinite ammunition. It was an obviously over-the-top video game with a loose connection to reality and an even looser message about “something something mental health and everyone has it in them to go postal”. It was a game made to shock people. Pedophilia, however, is universally considered an irredeemable act, something that cannot be framed in any context that would make it acceptable or even darkly humorous. The distinction between immoral and irredeemable acts is crucial here. The Postal Dude can be morally ambiguous, but crossing into irredeemable territory would fundamentally alter the character in a way that the game and its creators/99.9% of the fans do not support.

Also: “But muh 1997 promo art where it says his girlfriend was 17!! She says they just started dating 3 weeks ago!!” Yeah. The same photo was used with the girl also saying, “It was so weird. He told everyone I was his girlfriend, but I only met him once.” It says “live” near the bottom corner, implying this was an interview with the girl AFTER the crimes had taken place. In the promotional pic where it states she’s 17, it also says she DIED of third degree burns while he was on his rampage. Now that doesn’t really add up, does it. How can this girl give an interview after everything is said and done while also dying in the middle of his killing spree?

AKA, these promotional photos were reused over and over because they were on a budget and really not thinking about it, and are absolutely not valid for legit storytelling purposes at all. RWS has even said this themselves.

TGIWednesday: A Cooper's Hawk, here?

Everything is open to interpretation. I had a Cooper’s Hawk land right outside my little office window. While common in Florida’s wet lands and woods, they are generally not found in the city! And I can see the bank and the stop light from my office window! I had one reader interpret this as my grandfather sending a message and still another thought it was my guides. I however feel like it was a message from Spirit and my father who was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish all over the world! Which one of us is correct? Who cares! Not being flippant but as long as it’s from Spirit - we’re good... and as long as they are informative and loving messages, we’re all fabulous! For me it meant that he is aware of and watching over us (like a hawk) and proud of what we’ve accomplished, overcome and achieved. You can decide today to live a life as if nothing has meaning or that there are signs from a loving spirit everywhere we turn. I know which one I’m holding dear. May this message send a clear sign to you that only you’re aware of and I see it as containing inspiration, direction and encouragement and so it is.

I have a lot of problems with Wayne Family Adventures. The idea for it is solid enough, but the execution is. bad. I've put my thoughts below the cut because this got long, so I hope you don't mind me going in depth on my feelings.

Duke Thomas as a POV character - I'm plagerizing heavily from my convo with @phamtai about this. Def check them out for more info and better insights than mine into the character. Duke is extremely well established in canon despite only having been around for a decade or so. Remarkably, it's taken until WFA to butcher his character. Duke in this series is too polite. He's too clueless. He's been presented as the Relatable Kid archetype that he doesn't fit. In canon, Duke has never not been self-assured. He's a relatable character, yes, but not because he doesn't know what's going on. He has experience as a hero long before the batfam became involved. And since then, he's bonded with them. WFA doesn't show his connection with Cass, his dynamic with Bruce or Jason, and completely ignores his conflicts with the family. In a supposedly family-focused product, those are damn near cardinal sins. He may as well be a totally new character. Duke has been watered down so much for the sake of this series. WFA could be a vessel to explore so many things about him that we don't see a lot of on the regular page. We could see a dive into the parallels between him and Bruce, the full psychological impact of losing his parents, epecially in contrast to Jason, how his world view and morals differ from Batman's, the daily consequences of his powers, or the fallout of his mourning independently for the friends he's lost. But those would be interesting angles WFA doesn't seem eager to explore. If you can't imagine a version Duke punching a cop just because they're a fucking cop, you're doing it wrong. Another issue is, unfortunately, Duke's role as the only Black batman member. I shouldn't need to explain why it's problematic to be showing his as constantly less knowledgeable and presumably skilled as the other bats. (No, it doesn't matter that Dick and Damian are drawn with dark skin. Dick has been written as a white man for nearly his entire existence. The person who retconned that is notoriously racist and has spent years defending her inclusion of sexual assault in her writing. I have no issue with Dick being Romani, but just changing the color of his skin is not the way to do it.) DC has recently had a push towards inclusion, on the page an behind the scenes. This is good, of course. Though if they really are committed to representation and inclusion, it needs to be an effort seen across the board. Faux pas like this paint a pretty obvious picture.

The Webtoon format is shit - Webtoon is a great platform for indie writers and artists. It's not my style of content, but I get the appeal. IMO, it's ridiculous to accept a professional comic publisher shitting out 12 page fluff pieces. Yes, the weekly comic format has been phased out for a reason. Yes, halving the workload is a possible way around that restriction. But there just isn't a good enough reason to do it. It's a pretty obvious ploy to seem "hip" and "get in with kids these days." It's lazy and frankly kind of embarrassing. For anyone who doesn't know, a standard comic book is usually 24-28 pages. This isn't an arbitrary number, it's part of the format for the art form. That length allows for necessary plot developments in a serial story line while also giving the characters, themes, and artwork time to breathe. Furthermore, it's what most comic readers have come to expect over the decades. Halving that wouldn't necessarily be a problem, there are plenty of examples of well made shorts out there, but coupling that WFA's love affair with single panels and splash pages is a major issue. Say you make a 12 page comic with 4-6 panels per page. You have 48-72 panels to work with. You can sit a compelling story into that, with or without heavy dialogue. But bring that down to 12-24 panels, and you have one of two options: either 1) ultra-compress your narrative or 2) reduce the plot to compensate. Ignoring the formatting choices, WFA is a convenient reason for DC to keep the worst of the status quo in the bat titles. There's no need to acknowledge criticism of Bruce's treatment of his family when they can simply point and say "Jason's throat hasn't been sliced open here! And look, Damian hasn't been left with the crushing guilt of his grandfather's death! We even let Tim exist as his own character!" WFA doesn't change anything, it shows that DC is aware of its problems but would rather outsource them than put in the work to fix it. There's a special kind of rejected feeling that comes with being told "I hear you, I just don't care.

Fandom isn't bad, but - Everyone is familiar with the incorrect quotes format by now. Sometimes they're funny, most of the time they tend to over-saturate. WFA is like if a incorrect batfam quotes blog was a comic. It's a steady supply of one-liners and references, sure, but it lacks any real substance. If that's what you like, I can't fault you for it, but it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. The way the batfandom has piled onto the "this is the best thing ever" bandwagon is concerning to me. There has been good batfam content in canon, you just need to know where to look for it. The lack of critical analysis of the project and dismissal of critiques is always an alarming pattern, but the way WFA has come to be the odd face of the fandom is just bizarre. It's everywhere, as you know if you've ever tried avoiding it. Thinking about WFA being the default interpretation of these characters makes me nervous. They lack the depth their canon counterparts. I don't care if you enjoy WFA, I do understand the appeal of it, but for the love of the gods, take it down from it's pedestal.

WFA is... fine. It's yet to commit any sins too egregious, but, like all DC properties, it's a ticking timebomb. I won't be surprised when it goes off, and I can't say I'll be sad to see it go. Ao3 has better content, anyway

Cardenalia: Lyric Analysis!

To all those theorists who want confirmation, here you go! Note that this is unedited. Long post below!

Verse One:

Silk laced with poison – ‘poison’ is in reference to Pomefiore’s chapter and the Evil Queen, when she poisoned Snow White.

The apple falling from the tree – The apple in this case is a second reference to Pomefiore, or more specifically Epel. 1Since apples only fall when they’re either fully grown or decayed, this is in reference to Epel leaving his hometown, entering a new environment – specifically Pomefiore.

It can also imply how 2Vil is raising Epel to be of a higher standard of beauty.

The wheel of fortune – 1In eastern cultures, there is a spiritual rebirth known as ‘reincarnation’ – or in this case, the cycle (also reference to the term ‘Lottery of Life’).

The Wheel of Fortune is based on people being separated and sorted into groups of status or wealth as they are born. Some humans believe that this is permanent till the day you die or be ‘reborn’ once again.

Has not been kind to me – (The following is more focused on the term ‘Lottery of Life’).

1Jamil believes that he has been deemed ‘unlucky’ and feels that he has lost the wheel of life from the moment he was born. As a result, this affects parts of his life such as his wealth, his family, his job, his wishes and desires, as well as his environment.

All these hands are crawling on me, crawling on me – The following is mainly based on Canon Jamil.

1This is in reference to when the members of Scarabia are constantly bombarding him with tasks and jobs. Jamil is tired of the huge, overwhelming responsibility carried on his shoulders as Vice Dorm leader. He internally feels mentally drained and in distress about it.

2This can include TWSTxDAL Jamil as well, since his power is reliant on Kalim’s power – which involves helping the people and environment around him. Without Jamil, Kalim’s power will be imbalanced and spiral out of control (he may even overblot because of that).

3Thanks to that, he feels like he is pressured and forced to comply with Kalim’s desires – without gaining anything satisfying or desirable from Kalim in the process.

4This can also be applied to Canon Jamil as well!

Time seems slow when I am struggling, I am struggling – 1Jamil feels like his pain of being in an everlasting bond with Kalim is filled with never-ending suffering. Additionally, he feels like his happiness and joy are short and brief – while his suffering lasts much longer and slower.

2This can also be in reference to Canon Jamil, in terms of him serving Kalim.

Desperate, I try to reach out to your hand – 1Jamil is reaching out constantly, begging for a way out of this suffering of feeling below or inferior to Kalim. In this line, he is hanging on to the last remains of hope that Kalim will realize of the eternal bond they are in.

2This can also be in reference to Canon Jamil, hoping that Kalim is aware of the dark side of him being a slave to Kalim.

What is with that smile? – This is in reference to Kalim’s bright and cherry innocence. As a result, when Kalim smiles to Jamil – Jamil is deeply hurt, frustrated and irritated - comprehending that Kalim still is naïve and unaware of the ongoing situation between the two of them.

2This can also be in reference to Canon Jamil.

Chorus:

Keep on singing, Cardenalia – 1Jamil is mocking Kalim and his actions, pretending to be supportive of Kalim and continue to be on his side. Instead, this implies Jamil manipulating and controlling Kalim to achieve his goal of freedom.

This is also referencing of Kalim’s innocence – of Kalim himself being stuck in his own ‘bubble’.

2This is in reference to Canon Jamil as well.

Keep on dancing, dancing backwards – 1In a way, Jamil is telling him to continue to act stupid/dumb of the bond they share. This in relation to Jamil being manipulative and mocking Kalim.

2Can also be in reference to Canon Jamil.

In my womb – 1In a mother’s womb – the baby I given the nutrients needed to grow as well as protection; while risking the mother’s life as a result. This can be applied to Jamil, but instead without nurturing and emotionally caring for Kalim as an individual.

2Additionally, this can be an insult to Kalim being naïve and useless – since a baby can only grow and cannot carry responsibilities or help themselves.

3Thirdly, this is in reference to Kalim being stuck in Jamil’s ‘trap’ or ‘bubble’, where he controls or monitors Kalim’s actions like a doll. In other words, Kalim is the puppet while Jamil is the puppeteer/mastermind.

4This can be taken as reference to Canon Jamil as well.

(I hate you) – This is towards Kalim, and in secret. That is why the brackets are applied.

Verse Two:

Same room, same time – 1This is based on when Yuu (You), Grim and Octavinelle were present with Scarabia (Canon Jamil).

2This can also be based on the TWSTxDAL story, when Yuu, Grim (somehow…?) and Octavinelle met Jamil and Kalim for the first time. In this case, the ‘room’ would be more so a ‘hideout’.

My eyes are dyed with jealousy – This is rather vague (since this can be interpreted in many ways). I will try to consider all the possibilities.

1Jamil is jealous of Azul – The fact that Azul is able to free and able to express his desires or ulterior motives without hesitation or restraint.

2Jamil is jealous of Kalim – This can be carried canonically or not.

Canon Version: Kalim allows Octavinelle into the Scarabia dorm, even though Jamil is against it. He despises how Kalim can be so carefree without carefully thinking of his actions – since Octavinelle is known for being mischievous and duplicitous.

TWSTxDAL version: The same is applied to here, but Jamil is unfamiliar with Octavinelle and Yuu (or is he?) since he meets you five in person as a group.

Kalim is a lot more open to visitors (since he barely receives none), and is annoyed and envious of how Kalim is ignorant of the dangers and risks of his new and unacquainted guests.

3Jamil is jealous of Kalim (2) – In general, Jamil is jealous of Kalim of winning the ‘Lottery of Life’ so easily without hard-work or dedication. He is given everything on a golden platter, without Kalim questioning the circumstances or the origin of the reward.

This can be applied to TWSTxDAL Jamil, except Kalim can use his powers by barely suffering in the process compared to Jamil. Though, it usually depends on who uses their power more (which is usually Kalim).

“Please stop” you ask me – ‘You’ can be the following:

1Yuu/You – Yuu is usually in charge of helping dorms and their Overblots. Indirectly, you are telling Jamil to stop accomplishing any sinister plans ahead of time.

2Kalim – This is based on when Kalim is under the Unique Magic ‘Snake Whisper’. Even though he doesn’t recognize he’s under hypnosis, I believe he would’ve reacted this way instead.

3Himself – Jamil has a sense of fear and worry that he’ll be found out, isolated, or no longer considered to be a friend or kind person to Kalim. This can be applied canonically to his dorm members as well.

Note that the context of ‘Himself’ can only be implemented as a one-liner, not with the line ‘To cease the puppetry’.

To cease the puppetry – This can apply to the following:

1Yuu/You – Yuu is telling him indirectly to stop controlling Kalim.

2Kalim – Kalim is telling Jamil to stop controlling him. Though, he is not saying ‘stop’ not for himself but for Jamil and the other members of his dorm. He doesn’t want Jamil to be hurt or affected in the process, even though Kalim himself is being hurt in the process.

In short terms, Kalim is being selfless.

This can be applied to TWSTxDAL, but he would give up his life for Jamil if it meant saving him (even though this is technically not possible). In this case, he is telling him to stop so he can keep the friendship of Yuu, Grim and the other spirits.

Other Spirits – Heartslaybul, Savanaclaw, and Octavinelle.

3Himself & Other – Note that this is an abstract interpretation canonically. This may be applied in the TWSTxDAL AU.

However, instead of Jamil this can be applied to his Overblot toying with him or fate, destiny, or a 3rd party playing with him like checkers. 4He feels that he is being used in a bigger plan for an unknown motive.

Now my cup is running over, running over – 1The cup is a representation of his luck and success. 2This is a sign of greed, dictatorship and overindulgence. 3In a way, this can be interpreted as him ‘winning’ the ‘Lottery of Life’/gaining control over the situation at hand. This can be interpreted as canonically or not.

You beg with – This can applied to Yuu/You, or Kalim.

Unceasing mercy, unceasing mercy – In reference to him going along with his plans ruthlessly.

Desperate, you try and cling unto my arms saying, - 1In a way, this is reference to the verse, “Desperate, I try to reach out to your hand”. This is ironic since Jamil was crying for help, but now he is the one being cried to.

‘You’ can only be applied to Kalim.

“End my suffering” – 1This is Kalim begging for Jamil to stop. 2However, the term ‘suffering’ is in reference to hurting the friendship of Yuu, Grim and the other Spirits. But canonically, he wants him to stop wounding the friendship of everyone (Yuu, Grim and Octavinelle) and the Scarabia dorm members.

Bridge:

The following lines are only in relation to Jamil himself speaking to everyone, but more specifically to Kalim.

| - to differentiate that the verses are separated lyrically.

Hate me – 1He wants Kalim to stop caring for him, since he is hurt thanks to Kalim’s kindness. If Kalim did not care for him so much, he wouldn’t have been betrayed him in the first place.

Kill me – 1Canonically, he knows that if he betrays his master/Kalim, he might be put to death. But he doesn’t care of the consequences – even if his freedom will be death.

Despise me – The same applies to the verse “Hate me”.

You shatter me – 1This is in reference to Kalim breaking his spirit, his hopes and desires. Moreso, Kalim ‘broke’ his ability to be who he wants to be as an individual.

Breaking | Slowly – 1This is when Kalim is ‘breaking’ his patience, his individuality/character, and desires. This can also be in terms of friendship as well.

How could you do this to me? – Jamil is questioning Kalim in this case.

The following lines are only in relation to Kalim responding to Jamil.

Time won’t | Heal all the wounds | I made in you – 1Kalim knows that these ‘wounds’ in these friendships can’t heal the mistakes he made in Jamil.

But let us | Live, learn, grow, and love – 1Kalim still wants them to understand each other’s feelings and restore his friendship, including everyone as well. He wants Jamil to continue living (for himself) and loving each other as best friends.

Everyone (Canonically) – Yuu, Grim, Octavinelle, and the Scarabia dorm members.

Everyone (TWSTxDAL) – Yuu, Grim, and Heartslaybul – Octavinelle.

Chorus:

Let us dance, Cardenalia | Let us dance, dance together – 1This is Jamil speaking to Kalim that he wants to dance with him. 2This is a sign of Jamil letting go of his anger and frustration, and turning his joy and happiness into dancing.

To the ends of hope, love, and despair – 1Jamil is stating that in good times and bad times, he will be there for Kalim in return; 2thanks to the promise that Kalim made (“Time won’t heal the wounds I made in you, but let us live, learn, grow, and love”).

EVALUATION (WITHOUT IMAGES DUE TO WORDCOUNT)

LEVEL 3 EVALUATION

NAME : Abbie Harper-Rowe PATHWAY: Fine Art PROJECT TITLE: Behind Our Eyes

My FMP concept is ‘MANIFESTATION’. After a long while considering my various choices I ended up concluding that this theme had the most potential in terms of what exactly I wanted to produce. As it’s my final project I wanted it to be special, a truly experimental and fun project, and a concept such as manifestation is limitless. Such an open theme attracts many thought processes and ideas, and I was instantly swamped with idea after idea and was struggling to settle on what I should make this concept into. I began researching what exactly manifestation is, what it feels like, when it happens, who experiences it. Eventually I decided that it would be interesting to play with the visuals that manifestation can bring, the blurring of reality within a daydream, the hum of lights behind closed eyes on the edge of a dream – and how I could present these ideas visually within my art. Upon this conclusion, I wrote the aim for my project :

“My aim for this project is to create a series of work that achieves the mystical feeling of manifestation - a collision of conscious and subconscious, reality and fantasy, the concrete and the abstract.”

And so, my journey began, and I started focussing on what this aim would mean to people, and who the audience of my work could be. As I addressed before, manifestation is such an open concept that evolves as you judge each person’s experience – there is no set shape it settles in. I concluded that the audience of my work is as limitless as manifestation is, the open concept would allow me to produce work that the audience can interpret for themselves – allowing my artworks message to differ from person to person. Ironically, my artwork would spark a manifestation all of its own, as each individual thinks up their own reality within my art. Of course, with such freedom there is room for error, and it was tricky when I encountered problems with creating work that reflected my concept. I overcame these issues by looking back at my aim and referring to it consistently throughout the project. Due to this, my concept and purpose of my work has remained consistent throughout the entirety of my project.

In terms of practical work, this project has been my most experimental since beginning at college. In the first workshops I reflected back on familiar techniques such as collage and fine liner drawing – refining techniques and playing around with the effects I could produce. In the first few weeks we had workshops that covered new techniques, such as cyanotypes inspired by Catherine Jansesn, photo/chemigrams, and layering with acrylic paints inspired by Jean Michel Basquiat. While exploring these new media I was constantly wondering what ones would allow me to reflect my concept as efficiently as possible, and what I would enjoy creating. I particularly enjoyed the photogram workshop, and I loved watching my collages develop into these beautiful, almost eerie pieces of work. The dark areas became light, while the light areas loomed into shadows that peered around the edges of clashing details that both embraced and repelled. I loved how bold they were, the fact they were originally collages meant the crisp details of the paper I had carefully carved were still intact and made for perfectly sharp pieces of work. But I wasn’t satisfied, I wanted to dive deeper. I decided to experiment in the next session by photocopying one of my paint experiments onto acetate and repeating the process with a softer piece of work, one that was carefully blended and layered rather than having sharp details. The results paid off, and they worked in the opposite way to the previous photograms. These almost dreamlike scenes of dark mist that rolled across the page, dotted with stencilled letters and waltzed with a spray of pale paint that had once stained my hands black. I decided that I adored the artwork this method produced, and that I would focus on this throughout my project. The way in which I would link this back to my concept was my next obstacle, how exactly could I create these pieces and label them as manifestation? I pondered on this for a while, and researched deeper into artists like Niki Hare (paint artist), lászló moholy-nagy(photogram artist), and Hannah Höch(collage artist). I decided why not combine the three methods, create abstract collages and then photocopy them onto canvas – giving me a way in which I can layer with paint to achieve a display of both the bold and the dreamlike – which I can then produce photograms out of. This way, I can create mixed media outcomes that blur a crisp scene of reality with imagery from the collages and add layers of acrylic in order to achieve that effect of mist, rolling across the page. Add the photogram process that inverts the colours into to a black and white fuzz of art, that both emphasises and distorts the details into a surreal visual experience. Similar to a daydream, the moments before you sleep, manifestation. Throughout this thought process I documented all of my research, thought processes and experiments onto my blog – which I believe has been effective in aiding the progression of my artistic journey within this project. When I began my final outcomes, my experimental pieces had really paved the way for a successful process. It all ran smoothly, creating 20 collages which I then photocopied onto canvas and layered with paint and fine liner. I was progressing quickly, and the outcomes were looking strong at their final stages before I made them into photograms. However, it was when I began my photograms that I encountered problems. The number of layers – while effective in portraying my concept – were difficult to enhance on the photograms. The original collages were obscured due to the amount of texture added onto and around them. I applied my problem-solving skills here, experimenting with exposure times and changing the contrast levels on the photocopier. While my outcomes weren’t as clear as I may have hoped, they were miles better and I had overcome the obstacle – which in turn lead to me having more ideas on how to exhibit my work, which I have documented on my blog. My practical work has been effective in achieving the purpose of my proposal and theme, the research I applied within this project has visibly allowed me to progress, and my experimental practical pieces show clear development from the very beginning of my project. The work itself speaks the aim of my project, and portrays what manifestation feels like to me and to others – which is all I hoped to achieve going into this project.

Evaluating my work throughout this project has played a role in allowing me to progress. I had kept up with weekly evaluations on my blog, as well as smaller daily posts on what I achieved on college days. I refer back to the plan for my FMP regularly, focussing on my aim as well as how I can move forward to my next steps. I regularly had conversations with all of the lecturers on how my work is going, what I’m planning for the day and what I could do to improve. I took all of their advice and applied it throughout, and I saw improvements. On my blog you can clearly see my development as I’ve progressed towards my final outcomes – through self-evaluation, research, practical development and discussion. The visible strengths of this project have been the practical work I’ve produced – as its been consistent and it documents a clear journey to my final outcomes. The weaknesses have been keeping up to date with my blog, which in places feels slightly vague – although it still does its job in presenting my thought process throughout this project. Overall, I’ve enjoyed how experimental this project has been, I’ve learnt a bunch of new processes and have applied them in a way that has allowed me to develop as an artist. I have also learnt the importance of self-evaluation, as it has played a huge role in pushing me forward this project – I’ve overcome obstacles and problem solved based on advice given to me by my peers and I achieved this by breaking down my journey into smaller pieces that I evaluate regularly – rather than reaching the end and realising that all of my problems are waiting unsolved. I think that my work both practical and written has been effective over this whole project and I’m proud of the strengths I can see in my work – of course there are weaknesses but I am pleased with how I have worked and overcome obstacles overall – which has made for a successful and enjoyable final project.

She’s had a lot of revamps and she’s had a lot of FC changes, but I think this version of herself is the best one yet. She was born in 1995 and was the only child for the first few years of her life

Then her brother came along

Her parents neglected her in favor of her brother, who did acting as a child (I’ll be sending in a wanted connection for her brother, so if you’re interested he’ll be a ‘97 liner or younger!)

While they neglected her, she learned how to fend for herself and started developing talents of her own

She asked her music teacher to give her private singing lessons after school, and that went on for about four years

They weren’t aware that she could sing until she asked if she could audition for record labels

She was almost immediately offered a spot as a trainee at her first label, and her parents were shocked when she passed the audition, but signed the papers allowing her to become a trainee

She didn’t really speak to them during her time as a trainee, and only called her brother every once in a while when she knew her parents wouldn’t be around

Her trainee period was a very.. interesting time. This is where Eunhee developed the brunt of her cutthroat attitude. She was already a little hard hearted due to lack of attention and love from her parents, but seeing just how intense and difficult training could be only heightened that. If you were a trainee that she liked or didn’t pose a threat to her debut, you were okay in her book. The others? Not so much. She fought tooth and nail to get her spot in Wish, and a few other trainees grew to not like her. She would put on the best possible act for trainers and other BC employees, but not so much to her peers. Did she care? Not really. She was there to become an idol, not make friends.

She trained for nearly six years before she finally debuted as a member of Wish. As a whole, Eunhee enjoyed being an idol and loved performing. There was nothing better to her than receiving so much love and positive energy; not to mention, the attention she received. Being the leader and main vocalist of Wish came with a lot of perks and being apart of the biggest girl group in the country opened so many doors for her in more ways than she ever could have imagined. She got plenty of opportunities to get her name and face out there, to build up a brand of her own away from Wish. Almost subconsciously, she found herself going above and beyond to outshine her group members. She firmly believes that as the main vocalist, she’s the best singer in the group and, as she would put it, ‘the voice of Wish’.

The more successful Wish became, the hungrier for fame Eunhee became. She wanted more, and she never hesitated to ask BC for more. That was how she was introduced to what became her second love; acting. She wasn’t trained in acting, but with Wish’s popularity, she received love calls from different production companies. At first, Wish’s management team were hesitant to allow her to go for the role in the drama ‘Evergreen’. It wasn’t uncommon for most idols who tried to cross over into acting to be met with a lot of criticism and wariness. A lot of people assumed that idols only received acting roles because of their popularity, and that them being cast in dramas and films only led to real actors and actress being denied opportunities.

In the beginning, all of those worries fell on deaf ears for Eunhee. She was determined to do it. Just like she did with her idol training, she put as much effort as she could into preparing for the role and her audition. Whenever she wasn’t busy with Wish, she was working with an acting coach. An acting coach that she hired with her own money, of course. Behind the backs of BC’s team, because she didn’t want them involved and she wasn’t sure if they would even allow her to seek someone out on her own accord.

The acting sessions turned out to be helpful. She was by no means a magnificent actress, but she wasn’t terrible either. She was just good enough to land a supporting role in the drama. Of course once it was announced that she would be making her acting debut, she didn’t receive as much support as she would have thought. She assumed that she would at least have Wishing Wells as her support, but as it turned out, many of them were against her pursuing an acting career. They didn’t want her to focus on anything other than Wish, which was upsetting, to say the least. It did throw her off a little, seeing so many people against her solo endeavors. It didn’t help that she was met with quite a bit of covered hostility her first few days on the set. The other actors and crew people weren’t necessarily mean, but she could feel the distance and slight coldness between them, which took some time to blow over.

By the end of filming for ‘Evergreen’, Eunhee discovered that she liked acting. Not just liked, but loved. Being able to step into the shoes of someone else, even if that person is fictional, appealed to her creativity. She could take a character and interpret it in her own way, which was a plus side to acting. Being an idol didn’t allow nearly as much free will. The reactions to her acting debut were rather lukewarm. Some people praised her for being better than they thought she would be, while most said that her talent fell far below the acting abilities of her cast members.

Those were the comments that got to her the most. Eunhee liked to consider herself to be rather confident in her abilities and uncaring of the opinions of others, but she knew deep down that was not the case. She craved acceptance, approval and attention; three things that she never got from her mother and father.

So she kept working on her acting. Trying to improve her skills more and more. When she received the opportunity to audition for another supporting role in another drama in 2019, she jumped at the chance. It was her time to prove herself as an actress. She didn’t want to be seen as one dimensional. She wanted people to see that with her second drama. Even though the second time around wasn’t much better than the first, she did receive a few more praises than the last time she tried acting, which she took as a good sign to keep pushing forward with that career path.

Unfortunately with her being so wrapped up in her schedules for Wish, she can rarely find the time to pursue other avenues. But will that stop her from pushing for her own solo work? Definitely not.

Despite her shortcomings, Eunhee is a VERY good friend. Loyal as all hell. And she loves her members to pieces, even though she tries to upstage them.

Fun Facts!!

Hates the fact that Wish are attacked for lipsyncing when literally every other group in the industry has lipsynced at some point in time and will at some point in time in the future. Because of that, she’s very aggressive when it comes to Wish’s performances. She’ll make the members sing their songs while performing the choreography over and over again so they’ll learn how to pace their breath and build up stamina to sing live. Has definitely gotten into arguments with some Wish members because of this.

She loves to cook and bake!! Let her fatten your muses up

What expectations do you hold towards your plotting partner: Well, I tend to be the type that actually fails at coming up with plot ideas. It’s not that I don’t think of anything, but that I’m either too shy or my brain is too exhausted of ideas. So I guess just enthusiasm works for me, since it gives all the same energy! Especially when talking about ships (including platonic and hate ships) between our muses ‘cause that usually helps lead into some potential plots, as I’ll always be up for discussing new stuff for them; like how we want to develop them, where will they go, when will they get there, etc.

When you notice the plotting is rather one-sided, what do you do?: I’m a bit of too quiet to say anything really, kinda like a pushover. But if I can gain the confidence, I’d prefer to ask what’s going from my partner’s end. If it turns out they’re really not interested then, and I hate to do it, we’ll just drop it. I want us both to be having fun, and if they’re not into it, then it’d be too selfish of me to try and continue it.

How do you usually plot with others, do you give input or leave most work towards your partner?: Again, I’m pretty terrible at it, so I’m usually a go with the flow type person. So unfortunately, that leaves most the plotting to them, unless my brain decides to wake up. But when I do have an idea and have the courage to, I’ll pitch it to them. Usually my plots end up starting out as some random headcannon between our muses and their ship, and then it falls into the fascination of ‘I wanna rp that now’, just to see it have a story.

When a partner drops the thread, do you wish to know?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. - And why?: I get anxious easily. So whether or not I was really into it, it’s nice to know, and easier on my nerves if it was something I was really into. However, it’s not entirely and outright demand that they do all the time. - What should your partner do when dropping a thread?: Not required, just preferred that they just let me know.

What could possibly lead you to drop a thread?: Two things. Disinterest is one, and pretty self-explanatory. Then there’s if I just lack the energy for a certain amount of time, after several attempts to actually reply. I usually hate to drop threads. But if I feel there’s absolutely no way I’ll be able to reply, then I’ll either pm my partner directly or make out a post and tag those I’ve dropped threads with, if it’s multiple. - Will you tell your partner?: YES / NO / DEPENDS.

Is communication in the rpc important to you? YES / NO. - And why?: Even though I’m terrible of communication, I still like to hear from my partners every once and a while. It’s kinda why discord is easier to get a hold of me ‘cause, since I have two servers there I mod/admin, I usually check it and will answer there more often. - Are you okay with absolute honesty, even if it may means hearing something negative about you and/or portrayal?: I wanna say yes, but there’s that anxiety in me that says no. It’s a hit or miss with me. I usually try not to get defensive, and most the time won’t. It’ll just end up making become a bit more cautious, confused, or reclused, depending on what it is; and that’s all ‘cause of anxiety. - Do you think you can handle such situation in a mature way? YES / NO.

Why do you rp again, is there a goal?: Mostly to have fun. Also so I can explore my muses and work on my creative writing. When people like what I post too, it makes me extremely happy and excited, wanting to pour out more! So really, not much of a goal other than just share my thought process and ideas.

Wishlist, be it plots or scenarios: To roleplay and post more stuff for Mizuiro. And to build more relationships of all kinds for my muses, especially my ocs. I’d also like to explore darker themes for a few muses as well, though that’s a bit of a tall order... Not too people can handle or are willing to deep dive, so I’m not sure if that’ll happen really.

Themes I won’t ever rp / explore: I don’t really have any hard limits. However, I usually refrain from a lot simply for the comfort of others. So I guess there’s quite a bit I won’t ever get into, though I’d like to.

What Type of Starters do you prefer / dislike, can’t work with?: i’m usually good with just about anything. If I’m not, then I’ll inform my partner.

What type of characters catch your interest the most?: Better question is; what type am I not into? Though truthfully, I’m really into characters with a lot of development, an establish backstory of any kind, and just about any that can capture my heart (which isn’t hard to do btw). I’m not picky and I have very few I truly hate, except for their person rather than the character.

What type of characters catch your interest the least?: Flat, one-dimensional types with very little development or their own story. I like seeing the ins and outs, the positives and negatives of a character. I want them to put me on a roller coaster of emotions, since that’s life in a nutshell. If they can’t, then I’ll lose interest quickly. Also mary sues/gary stues. Characters that just don’t make sense or follow the universe’s logic are also a major turn off.

What are your strong aspects as rp partner?: Oh boy... I guess my dedication and love for my muses’ ships. It’s not much, but only thing I can think of. I also try to keep an open mind, be as understanding as possible and to support my partner wherever I can.

What are your weak aspects as rp partner?: My inability to reply to drafts that have been sitting for a couple of weeks. I want to reply, and yet, as soon as I open the draft and get to work, my brain blanks. It’s really frustrating.

More out of fun or character development?: Just about whenever, as long as partner is up for it. And it’ll be for either or, depending. - What could possibly make your Muse interesting towards others, why should they rp with this particular character of yours now, what possible plots do they offer?: Usually that’s up to the other’s interpretation of the character. But Kaede has some potential, developing surprising friendship despite her division’s reputation. She’s bit of an opposite from her captain and co-lieutenant, probably being the most patient and kindest of the three, as she’s the only one to pursue any friendships. I would say I’d love to find more plots in reference to her backstory, whether some random character she befriends or is enemies with finds out her birth, or she feels to rekindle a past friendship.

- With what type of Muses do you usually struggle to rp with?: ... I dunno if I really have an answer for that. Kaede’s one of my easiest going muses, unafraid to interact with anyone. She tends to fit in just about anywhere. Though I’m sure this partly due to her being my most developed and being well established. - With what type of Muses do they usually work well with?: Honestly, I think just about anyone, depending on the scenerio and who they are. That also determines how she approaches and interacts with them.

- What interests your Muse(s) in general: There’s a list of things. Gardening, social gatherings, her division... She’s also into new experiences, things that are foreign to the Soul Society. - What do they desire, is their goal?: She simply wants to make her mother proud, to better society if she can, and continue to aid and serve her division. - What catches their interest first when meeting someone new?: Body language. It’s a trained type of thing, trying to read them by how they hold themselves. How approachable they appear, their intent, etc. - What do they value in a person?: Depends, as she understands everyone is different. But mostly their determination, honesty, and dedication, even if she’s not the receiver. She can still respect them for it. - What themes do they like talking about?: Eh... Just about anything, aside from herself. Anything gardening or about flowers is where she’s the most enthusiastic. - Which themes bore them?: Idle chitchat or small talk. She likes to carry an actual conversation. So trying to ask her about the weather, she’ll more than likely walk away.

- Did they ever went through something traumatic?: Sort of? There’s a couple things; the discovery of Azashiro’s imprisonment and his crimes, the sudden disappearance of Yoruichi and Kisuke, and the brief encounter with Yhwach’s clone during the war. - What could possibly trigger them?: Both Azashiro’s imprisonment and Yoruichi and Kisuke’s exile have been resolved, so no. Though to ask her about Azashiro, she’ll be guarded and, depending on the person, defensive. The incident with Yhwach was a literal flash, leaving her physically scarred, but otherwise unfazed. - What could set them off, enrage them?: Azashiro, yes. Depending on who the person is, obviously. Kisuke is the most notable target of this rage. - What could lead to an instant kill?: Again, Azashiro, depending on who brings it up and what’s brought up. Mostly, if it targets her mother and threatens to expose them, including her adopted father.

- Is there someone /-thing they hate?: Yhwach and Aizen. Both have caused a degree of grief in the Soul Society, and even for those outside it. She also hates those that use their position of power for selfish reasons. - Is there someone /-thing they love?: Her mother and adopted father, and the Shiba clan as a whole. Her division, and her current captain and co-lieutenant, along with her former captain and her brother Yuushirou. She also loves, though won’t admit it often enough, Askin (verse dependent). Kenpachi as well (verse dependent). Any and all her friends, including Kisuke. There’s also a huge soft spot for animals of any kind.

Is your Muse easy to approach?: YES / NO. - Best ways to approach them?: As long as you’re not a sworn enemy to her or the society, just about anyone’s good to go. Just strike up conversation, ask for a spar, to drink, etc. She isn’t one to simply ignore or dismiss anyone, so long as there isn’t any bad terms between them. - Where are they usually to find?: In the second division offices or training grounds (sometimes in the onsen), at her home, or strolling or patrolling through the Seireitei.

Something you may still want to point out about your muse?: Eh... nothing I can think of off the top of my head. Except that, no matter how kind a face she has, she can still be a merciless killer.

1. What would prevent you from following someone?

3. What current rp trend do you hate?

Ooh, I have a few. In no particular order:

- Blogs where the rules, muse info, and mun info are not easily accessible. If I have to click around various moving icons to find what I think a rules page should be, I’m less inclined to want to engage. I prefer rules on pages (and linked in a pinned post) to a google doc but I can use either. I just hate when the blog layout is so stylized that this information is not easily found.

- Replies with gifs. I’m not terribly picky about icons (especially for canon characters. And for OCs that don’t use a canon FC, I understand that it can be difficult to have enough icons with their expressions), but I dislike gifs in replies just because it causes my feed to load slowly.

- Writing styles that are just difficult to read. Double small text, multiple spaces between words, etc. I prefer third person past tense for my own writing but I won’t hold anyone to that, but I need to be able to read posts and replies.

- Self-deprecating attitudes when it comes to writing. It’s hard to be confident all day, every day, in your skills and portrayal but I see more and more blogs insisting they’re terrible to the degree of “I don’t know why people stick around for my trash writing but thank you!” It’s your muse and your interpretation. Own that shit! Because no one will be a bigger cheerleader for your muse and your writing than you.

- Shyness in being afraid to reach out. Approaching new people is not easy, but the more you don’t even try to send memes, reach out in messages or discord, or find some other way to interact, the less likely you’ll get interactions. It’s flattering to be approached, for sure, but the trend of being so shy and afraid of others to reach out needs to stop. We’re all nerds writing about fictional characters we love.

- Sending anon hate. I don’t think any more needs to be said about this.

- Unless the muse is a Danganronpa canon character, automatic friendship and knowledge about my muse without plotting first. I know there’s the various memes that go around to the likes of “We don’t need to write our characters meeting for the first time!” or “Let me know straight up if our characters can ship!” I like growing those bonds throughout threads, especially if I’m writing with a canon character from a different fandom. Everyone portrays their muses differently and my muse may not react the same way to one portrayal of a muse versus another. Of course, chatting OOC and plotting can help streamline this process along but it’s more of an annoyance when it comes out of nowhere, because first meeting interactions aren’t terribly popular.

- When muns tag long IC posts with a trigger warning (specifically because it’s a long post). For me, my favorite type of long post to see on my dash are long IC posts, in contrast to images, gifsets, memes, etc. I get it if long posts just make the feed more difficult to load, but why should writing length be a trigger?

38. What advice would you give to someone new to rp?

This could go two ways, being new to RP in general or being new to Tumblr RP. So I’ll try to go over both!

- If you’re interested in playing a canon muse, know that muse and their fandom very, very well. Play their games, read their books, watch their shows. If it’s a popular fandom, you will likely be interacting with other muses from that fandom who will expect it from you. If not, you might just sell other muns on checking out your fandom by your portrayal!

- Unless you’re confident you can handle it, do not take on too many muses at once. Doubly so if you’re in a popular fandom(s). Keeping up with threads, sending asks/memes, doing promotion, queueing content...that all takes a significant amount of time, not to mention writing for several different characters and voices. Start with one and see how it goes, maybe try a test muse here and there (maybe with a meme prompt?). If you’re able to keep up with it all, then make a second blog or add more muses. It’s easy to get overwhelmed fast when you’re just excited to RP for the first time and want to try everything all at once.

- Lurk. Lurk where you want to be roleplaying. If that’s tumblr, go through the applicable RP tags for your intended blog (Are you indie or wanting to join a group? What about fandom? If you’re writing an OC, which sorts of fandoms or mediums do you want to write them in?). Get a feel of not only what muses are out there, but some of the more accepted conventions of tumblr roleplaying: see how others set up their about pages, their rules, their verses, etc. Find out how people are interacting (plotted starters? memes? spontaneous asks?). It’s easy to sign up for an account but I’d recommend spending some time researching how different platforms approach roleplay. When I started on tumblr for both indie and group RP, accounts like @rpedia were very helpful.

- Decide, at least to start, what your rules, limits, and interests are. Maybe you’re underage or just not interested in smut, make sure that’s in your rules. Maybe there’s a fandom you don’t want to interact with, make sure to list it. Are you only interested in one-liner responses or do you want to write multiple paragraphs (or both!)? How quickly do you want to respond to threads? And if you want to participate in shipping, that’s a whole different set of things to consider. Before jumping into the tags, threads, and reaching out to people, having at least the beginnings of your rules, your muse info, your mun info (age and mun name/pronouns as the bare minimum), and possibly your verses should be available for potential partners to peruse.

- But still be flexible. Your rules can change and your interests can change. This happened to me with my shipping preferences and I’ve updated my rules over time to reflect that. I’d also add ‘Be open-minded’ to this as well: interact with muses from other fandoms and OCs. Try new friendships and possibly romantic relationships you might not have considered for your muse when you decided to write them. I’ve found that being open to all sorts of interactions brings some fantastic muses, writers, and often friends into your life.

- Do not be discouraged when you’re first starting out and don’t have too many interactions. Especially if you’re writing an OC, a canon character in an unpopular fandom, or you’re just plain new to the RP scene (in general or on any platform). It takes awhile to appear in the tags and to grow your network. Post drabbles, post headcanons, follow accounts you want to write with, and don’t be afraid to reach out to potential muns. For the most part, many of us are very easygoing because we know what it’s like to start in this hobby!

- If someone says they do not want to write and/or ship with you, do not take it personally. They may not care for your muse, your fandom, your writing style, your portrayal, your content, or just the ship in general. You, the mun, are writing your muse the way you want to and there’s nothing wrong or bad about it, but it might just not work for the other person. There are always plenty more people to write and ship with. But there’s no use getting angry, begging for them to change their mind, or worse, slander them on your writing platform (or off it). Just take it in stride.

- And most importantly, read (and watch and play, but especially read) and write. It is very easy to get writer’s block or just feel like you cannot match someone’s length. But I suggest writing something you want to read, and how to do that is to read something you want to read and practice, practice, practice. I find movies, TV shows, and most games can give great plot ideas, but when it comes to putting those ideas into words? Nothing beats the written or audio word. You don’t have to immerse yourself in anything particularly highbrow that’s found in a lit class, either. Just indulge in writing styles, plots, and characters that inspire you and your muse, and then just write. Drabbles, headcanons, replies, starters, writing frequently keeps you in good practice. That might be every day, that might be every week, but the more you keep doing it the more it’ll improve. And then it’ll feel less like a chore.

- But that being said, take a break when RP is more of a chore than it is fun. You might be burnt out on a variety of things, but don’t forget to tell your partners!

Introduce yourself? My name is Christie Shinn. I’m a resident of the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. I’m Canadian but I’ve called Hawaii home for over a decade.

What kind of work do you create? What medium and what would you say it is about? I work in acrylic paint on canvas, wood, leather.. really, anything the paint will stick to.

I’d say the style of work is a modern version of traditional Hawaiiana (Hawaii-inspired art/craft).

I taught myself to paint, and my favorite art at the time was early skate graphics and silkscreened concert posters so I think there is a sharp-edged graphic feel to my work because of that. I like to go high contrast with color and pick subjects that are a little off-typical. I live in a place that is so familiar to people all over the world, even if they’ve never been here. I feel like it’s my job to find a fresh interpretation of life in Hawaii.

How did you start from doodling and drawing to what you do now? Where did your love of drawing and creating stem from? My grandma taught me how to paint when I was a kid. I remember being fascinated with making marks on a canvas. It starts off blank, then it’s something and each choice is totally up to you. Some are good choices, some aren’t, but they’re all yours. I still love that about making art. I get to sit at my easel and create a thing that did’t exist before I thought of it. So cool.

Who and what were some of your early artistic influences? My favourite artist as a kid was Henri Rousseau who created massive tropical themed paintings, even though he’d never been outside of France. He created an entire lifetime of artwork exploring his tropical fantasy world. His work is so weird and wonderful.

When I started getting serious about art, my absolute favourite artist was (and still is) Andrew Pommier. I love his characters, I love his style. I feel like I can look into the eyes of one of his characters and see an entire backstory. One of his pieces is on my studio wall for both inspiration and as a barometer for my own work. Even though we have different styles, I try to make sure each new piece that leaves the studio is worthy to be hung next to the Pommier.

What are some things that inspire the drawings you make now? What are some of your favorite things to draw? What about them makes them something you just find yourself re-creating or re-capturing over and over again? I’ve spent a lot of years living on the North Shore of Oahu and about 4 years ago I met my boyfriend who lives on the South Shore. His place is an hour drive , and it’s like a whole new island visually. The colors are different, the ocean is different, the sunsets…everything is new and fresh. I think a lot of my work over the past 4 years has been inspired by the contrast between the two shores.

Take us through your artistic process? What’s a typical day in the studio like? I wake up at 7:30am, get some cuddle time with the cat, make coffee and wait for my assistant to come over. He packs orders while I paint. Usually a friend drops by at some point because I live on a property with several houses and my neighbours are all friends. If it’s a surf day, we break for a surf. The afternoon is a mix of planning out new pieces, answering emails, prepping orders and generally taking care of the business side of art. I’ll do an evening beach run if I’m feeling energetic. Watch the sunset. Usually with a beer. After dinner, I’m back at the easel until about midnight. Nighttime is my favourite time to paint because there are no distractions.

I always take weekends off to maintain the work/life balance. It can get obsessive, especially when I’m struggling with a piece. Mandatory time off helps me reset.

What art tools will we always find in your creative space? Is there a medium you want to try that you have yet to get your hands on? I keep it pretty minimal when it comes to materials. I have one large brush for lay in, 3 flats and 2 liner brushes. I always have several blank canvases hanging at all times. Since inspiration is hard to control, I think the key is to be ready for when it strikes.

I’ve always been fascinated with screen printing. I’d love to dabble in that one day.

What’s been one of your more rewarding collaborations or projects? What about it was so rewarding? What would your dream collaboration be? I first worked with Vans in 2013 as the poster artist for their Triple Crown of Surfing event here on the North Shore. I did a bonus design that they turned into a limited edition capsule collection. It was on button up shirts, bags, hats, towels.. I didn’t know any of this until I opened up the box of samples. It was so unexpected, I actually teared up a little. What a crazy feeling to see your art on a Vans product. That moment really made a lasting impact. After that, I started to really believe it was possible to have a career doing something I was good at and that I loved. I owe a huge debt to the Vans design team of ’13.

A few years later I got to collaborate with Vans again on a shoe design for the Japan market. It was my favourite collaboration to date because they let me customize everything: the shoe, the insole, the box and even the tissue paper!

A few months later I’m in Tokyo doing a signing event next to a wall of my shoes. It was surreal.

I think my dream collaboration would be collaboration shoe for Vans USA. I love to hand-paint Vans and I have a couple favourites from the hand painted series I’d love to see as a production shoe. Also, the Japan sizes were so small I never got a pair I could actually wear myself!

What do you do when you’re not drawing or working on projects? When I have a lot of down time, I love to travel. Japan is my favourite destination right now. When I have a little space in the day, I’ll log some hammock time, go for a surf, run, take photos…not in that order.

What’s the art community like where you are? What kind of avenues are there for artists in your area or is it more of a DIY type of thing? Hawaii is a great place for artists. We have a lot of galleries, local shops and businesses that feature the work of local artists. There are so many interesting opportunities outside the gallery scene too. For example, some big hotels in Honolulu have been doing rebrands over the last few years and nearly every one has hired a local artist to help refresh their look. There is also a lot of love for Hawaii in Japan which has lead to some really cool collaborations between local artists and Japanese companies. It’s a really great place to be an artist because there is no one measure of success. There are so many ways to have an art career here.

What’s your art tip that you want to share with folks? I try to keep the usual stuff in mind as I work: contrast, energy, balance. If there is a lot of warmth, add a splash of cool. If you go high-detail, balance it with some negative space. Dark/light etc…

My favourite pieces are the ones that still have the energy of the first strokes when they’re finished. Overworking is so easy to do. I try to take breaks and walk away or put it away for a while. I usually have several pieces going at the same time for this reason.

What are your favorite style of VANS? My favourite Vans are Slip-Ons. It’s customary to take your shoes off outside of homes and some offices in Hawaii. I take my shoes on and off a lot in a day so the slip-ons are the way to go. Also, they have more surface area to paint on, so they get an extra point for that as well.

What do you have coming up that you can share or are super stoked about? My newest collaboration is with Japanese airline ANA and LeSportsac. I created a series of bag designs for LeSportasac that will be available exclusively on ANA flights. I’m on my way to Japan in May for an art festival so I’ll actually get to see the bags on the flight.

I’m also pretty stoked on 2 new towel designs I have coming out this summer for Surfer Towel.

A THEORY: Linear Timeline of reputation

This is going to be a very long read; but it may just include unlocking the 15 Taylor's from the LWYMMD MV so read on if you dare…

(OK it totally includes the theory, please read and tell me what you think!)

An Introduction:

I've been a casual fan of Taylor Swift since she started. Loved all her radio singles, listened to her albums (at my leisure upon release), and admired her platform and brand image. I guess I became a huge fan after 1989, but around the release of reputation, I realized just how much this woman's music has been there throughout my life and decided to fully stan her. As I fell down the rabbit hole of learning everything I could about TS as an artist, I became completely enamored with her wits & charms. However, the more I learned to love about her, the more I could feel just a slight inauthenticity; I was constantly thinking of the hypocrisy of how she "never names who her songs about" yet she created this scavenger hunt with her liner notes that seemed to point in an obvious direction of one of her "ex-boyfriends." It didn't align with how she presented herself in every other aspect. Then, I felldowntherabbithole for real and found all of the incredibly documented and organized realm of the Kaylor's, and everything was literally in screaming color.

reputation made even more sense with fresh Kaylor eyes and once I read this Taylor Swift quote:

reputation, in my mind, is an album that is very linear in it’s timeline. Meaning that it kind of starts out where I was when I first started making the record. The album ends more where I am now in my life. So this is more towards the end of the album, it’s called ‘Call It What You Want.’

my mind became OBSESSED with cracking this code. I had combed through all the kaylor blogs and while I had read everything I could, I still couldn't place it within any timeline. Then, Delicate came out and the code started to crack; I could peek inside and make sense of something, but was still unsure what it was. I put together a loose concept which had some plot holes, but it was when I remembered to revisit the 15 Taylor theory that everything completely revealed itself.

I would like to start with a disclaimer: I have never, ever actively participated more than lurking or even posted anything on Tumblr. I would like to fully acknowledge that there is a huge, fat chance none of this makes sense to anyone but me, but my husband was really getting fed up with me talking about it and I just needed to share. THANK YOUS to the Kaylor blogs I frequented with incredible analysis and POV of Tay in the media and her music- @all-my-possessions @howyougetthenerd @jennyboom21 @karlitakloss @kaydar @kaylorrepdetective @larrienation @out-of-the-klosset @paradisekisses @tallcurlygirl @taytaysbeard @that-curly-haired-lesbian @thoseflashinggreeneyes @whaler13bg to name a few. A lot of the information I am providing is not new and connects the dots from the amazing posts from this community. I tried as best as I could to cite all relevant posts - you can definitely let me know if I've made any errors. Please feel free to edit//contribute//comment because I have a feeling that a more seasoned eye would be able to expound on so many more clues and easter eggs!

Overall Concept/Themes

There are truly some insightful analysis of the overarching themes and concepts of the album already. Secrecy, partners in crime, forbidden love… In general there's a complex theme of Duality to the album; conflicting feelings, Brand vs Self, bad vs good, truth vs reputation etc. I think it's most important to note is that any analysis that views these tracks differently than listed below, can still be correct. Our Queen is a lyrical master plus there's that added layer of intentional dualities in her story telling; there's always at least 3 different meanings to her songs and that's one of the reasons we admire her wordsmith ways.

The Timeline!!!

…Ready For It? - So It Goes… 2012* - 2014

This has long been inferred in every side of the fandom to indicate this is Part 1 of the Story, implied by the ellipses as the beginning and end of the track names. All the timelines I've previously read started at either the introduction of 1989 or even later beginning with 2016/2017 events, but it didn't make sense applied to the album as a whole. Once Delicate MV came out, I began to notice that all of the nods to RED in all these MV's were not just for nostalgia. She is literally telling us that this part of the story was about the end of RED era leading into 1989 - not quite 1989 era just yet. ;)

*2012 is an estimate based on the beginning of the Delicate video; it's possible that TS & KK met before Swiftgron was officially over but who will ever know? Karlie's buzz cut was December 2011 (x). The first half of the album is difficult to theorize specific dates within this period because we really have no idea when KK & TS met.

LWYMMD - New Year's Day 2014 - 2017 (NYD)

I gotta tell you - immediately after reading this, go watch LWYMMD. It was (is?) literally hiding there in plain sight; it's a GENIUS video walking you through EXACTLY what she did (you could say from a satirical standpoint more how the media/GP thought she did) to prepare for this era! When she refers to the "Old Taylor," she's using the term in the exact way her fans have been using: to refer to Country Taylor. She is officially Pop; Look What We Made Her Do when RED, a pop-country album, "a patchwork of songs," didn't win the Grammy. She went full POP princess. This post in particular helped me remember that these songs are not fresh in regards to her life even though they are brand new to us. Part 2 of the story more clearly follows the events of the 1989 era through just before rep's release.

…Ready For It? Intro

I believe this is an introduction of what's to come, an overview of the story. Yes, she's definitely asking herself if she's ready to come out of the closet (x/x), if Karlie is ready to glass closet (x), is her beard ready for the consequences(x), and most specifically, are we, her fans, the GP, are we ready for her to come out and live her truth unapologetically? It's her laying the groundwork to prepare for 1989; her literally coming up with the concept for the whole era which is why we see the references to her 1989 MV's in the glass room. This post cites the connection to the Dykes on Bikes; are we ready to accept Taylor to not only come out, but be a strong voice and activist of the LGBTQ+ community?

End Game April 2013 - June 2014

I KNOW Taylor is singing to KK about them first meeting - and I KNOW we think they just met before VSFS 2013 (even though there are rumors that say they met sooner…) But, hear me out because this lines up way too easily with the information we get from the MV (x/x). Remind yourself… Who opened for Taylor's RED tour? That’s right, our favorite ginger. It's a nice additional nod with the callback of Everything Has Changed duet with Ed Sheeran. Miami (shoutout to my hometown even though I have no inkling to its significance) tour dates were 04/10/13, London was 02/01/14 (Did she really show us their first NYE together?!), and Tokyo was 06/01/14.

Irrelevant now but important for later (LWYMMD): And I bury hatchets, but I keep maps of where I put ‘em. This post highlights a cool interpretation of the line that applies to this whole post!

I’ve been doing some digging to try and somehow link Miami in this mix, and this is pure speculation but I feel like Future represents her bearding with Harry Styles. Karlie’s “buzz cut” was in December 2012, and shortly thereafter she was in Miami for a photo shoot. 1/4/12 marks the official break up of Haylor in the US Virgin Islands… it’s a stretch and I’m totally grasping at straws but they are geographically close and it’s all I got for now.

I Did Something Bad early 2013

So, I have to admit… IDSB and DBM were the two songs I was having the most trouble placing within the linear timeline; my initial thought was this must have been a metaphor for her confessing her "sins" a.k.a. bearding, to Karlie when they first started dating. This was the song that clicked once I looked through the lenses of the 15 Taylors and reaffirmed my thoughts with the visuals of this Taylor on the cross in LWYMMD. In digging a little deeper, I found a Vanity Fair article - one of the only cover stories found online about TS during 2013. I'm not as confident about my perspective on the linear timeline with this track, however I feel like it's a good start especially considering the next holy church track.

In regards to the "light me up" lyric, and clear visual reference in the …RFI MV as well as the crucifixion of Taylor in LWYMMD, I thought this answer she gave the 73 Questions With Taylor Swift | Vogue video was also interesting to note. The question was what is the one thing she wishes she would have known at age 19 (8:03)?

"Hey, you're going to date just like a normal 20-something should be allowed to, but you're going to be a national lightning rod for slut-shaming."

I'll leave this quote from the April 2013 Vanity Fair interview right here:

"But nobody calls them the kinds of names that get thrown at Swift. “They’re ‘playboys,’ ” Swift says wryly. “They’re ‘having fun.’ ”

By the way, in the Vanity Fair article there's an "authorized source" giving insight to what "really happened" to Haylor aka probably lies.

Don't Blame Me early - mid 2014

I can really only hypothesize through the lyrics and the Taylor line up that this may be a reference to how the RED "media" circus (as quoted from the VF article cited above) literally made her do crazy things - maybe how her past experiences had caused her to react a certain way in an undefined relationship, maybe how the media circus in general had her guarding her heart, and of course the religious context of the song leads me to believe of course it is connected in that aspect to the confessing of her actions in the previous track. Big Sur trip also falls within this timeline. (x/x/x)

Delicate 2013 - 2014

I think this one has so many beautiful analysis with the music video that syncs perfectly with this time line with no need for additional explanation, and I think it's especially apparent why this Taylor represents TraKK 5 in the line up. (x/x)

It's interesting that Fearless Taylor and Red Taylor were the ones actually fighting on Taylor Mountain in the LWYMMD MV; this may be a reference to her insecurities and headspace during the RED media circus//break up anxieties fighting contrasting to her want to just dance in her best dress Fearless with KK with no inhibitions.

LWYMMD End of 2014

Has anyone noticed the crows in the beginning? It literally hit me as I was finishing this post - a group of crows is called a murder.

We see her Driving a new Maserati (well, car with significant meaning) down a dead end street and then crashes into the pole. (x) She literally killed the "Old Taylor" to get the Grammy - as well as set up clever disguises as red herrings* so that we missed the most obvious clue that this is about the release of 1989. I think even cleverer, how she walks away from the crash unscathed at the end of the MV to imply she rose up from the dead, she does it all the time (with each era release). (x/x/x/x)

*Red herring: something, especially a clue, that is or is intended to be misleading or distracting. In reference to the post regarding hatchets in End Game, she's definitely sending us on the hunt… remember that post above I asked you to note?

Then of course another hint to the timeline is in the lyrics and MV (look at the date of the tweet...)

So It Goes… October/November 2014

This was definitely the most challenging to figure out, but there's definitely two clear ideas that are represented here - the linear timeline alludes to the HOT KINKY SEX our girls probably had after VSFS '14 (x/x/x) and the death of her 'innocence.' Coincidentally, I had read Slaughterhouse Five for the first time earlier last year and lurking around the Reddit TS community where they spent so much time trying to figure out how they could circle this back to Vonnegut. Unluckily for them, it is the most heteronormative//homophobic community where even Kaylor posts are censored/deleted/ridiculed etc so they weren't ever going to get it. This song represents a toxic relationship with CH in their eyes, and I can see that perspective… another Salute to the American Queen of Wordplay.

Anyway, here is a quote from a NY Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/18/books/review/and-so-it-goes.html)

That is, the constant repetition of “So it goes” makes readers ask themselves about the meaning of death (or its lack of meaning) and the incalculable human costs of war.

The 2009 VMA's Taylor is the epitome of everything her art, brand and music spoke to prior to 1989; and with the Pop princess she was no longer the relatable girl next door. She had gone full big-city, celebrity friends, glitz and glam - feeling so Gatsby for that whole year. With 1989, represented by the LWYMMD music video, that image was shattered, it was the death of her reputation but the true beginning of laying the groundwork for her and KK's future and she truly felt alive.

Not to mention a song about kinky sex is a huge step away from that image.

And so it goes, now Part 1 of our story is done.

Gorgeous Met Ball 2015

Part 2 moves into the 1989 era starting with the Met Gala. (x/x) I read a great analysis using the lyrics to prove why this song is not about someone you just met because of the intense conflicting feelings. (I have scoured Tumblr to find it and link it but can't rediscover it… sorry I explained I've been a noob and a lurker and I never liked or reblogged anything, I'll update with a link if I ever find it again!) That made me reevaluate my original thoughts of this track being Enchanted 2.0 and representing her meeting Karlie for the first time. This was the first public event Kaylor attended together; it must have been strong conflicting feelings of joy & giddiness of the relationship quickly overtaken by nerves, fear, and anger that she would be found out and/or couldn’t show any outward PDA towards KK at the event. I would imagine there was a lot of drinking that night to cope, thus the “drunk” perspective.

PS she probably didn’t go home alone that night (DING)😉

Getaway Car May - August 2016

There are great analysis looking at this song from two main POV's- 1. the bearding CH-TH circus(x/x) and 2. a reflection of Swiftgron in hindsight (x). For the sake of the timeline/15 taylor line up, it was too coincidental that this was the Taylor snapping at the beards in I <3 TS shirts and from that perspective, fits perfectly into the linear timeline. It is suspect that TS went against her management in anger of how the "break up" with CH unfolded, and so it would make sense to be a little apologetic towards TH -- the one beard aftermath she may have regretted but that is just pure speculation.

King of My Heart August 2016

The below quote and Taylor line up don't need further explanation.

"I think it’s very interesting when people talk about their love stories. Like when you guys blog about, “my and my husband, me and my boyfriend” or just anyone talking about how they fell in love.

There seem to be these very definitive phases. It doesn’t matter how long that phase lasts. There seems to be a moment where you know it transitioned to the next phase. People will be like, “Oh my God, we were friends for six years and there was this moment and we knew and then it changed. Then there was a moment and it got even deeper. Then there was a moment and we knew” or like “I saw this person and there was this moment and we knew.” Everyone has a different story with how they connect with someone else and what i find interesting is the moment where it switches. You always hope that switch is going to move forward and not backwards because it can happen either way. I always wanted to structure the song where each individual section of the song sounded like a move forward in the relationship but still being listenable. So I wanted the verse to seem like it’s own phase of a relationship, the pre-chorus to sound like it’s own phase of a relationship, and the chorus to sound like it’s own phase of a relationship. I wanted them to all have their own identity but seem like they were getting deeper and more fast paced as the song went on. So finally I was able to achieve that in a song.”

Dancing With Our Hands Tied Mid - End 2016

This analysis really explains the lyrics and matches the allusion of the Zombie Taylor to make it seem like it is a hindsight song about Swiftgron; however Out of the Woods is the last MV of 1989 era released the end of 2015 (aside from New Romantics your video) and this can perhaps be expressing the death of Taylor’s 1989 reputation after the slew of public feuds. It can also be interpreted as a hindsight song in regards to Kissgate in 12/2014(x/x); how she had found herself coming into 1989, but was a zombie version of that because she had to beard with CH and TH and it perhaps made her feel dead inside. Maybe she’s implying that she would have just taken the fall from grace then put herself through another (particularly long and grueling) fake relationship.

Not only is Dress pretty frequently analysed, it's also the most obvious and blatant within the theory. Originally, I thought this was the easiest one- yes, the Snake Queen is sipping and serving tea on her infamous feuds however it just didn't fit in the more transparent timeline of the second half. There's been a few posts that hint the track may be a slight diss to her fans. Once it hit me she was alluding to herself as our (the fans) American *dream* Queen, I realized: this song is not a slight diss - it is harshly directed to us, all of us. Hear me out: Just like KOMH is about a love that reflects back on different periods in life, this track also calls to a couple different conflicts with the relationship of TS and her fans. She's never enough for either aspect of the fandom.

I thought it was curious that she would have the "ET TU BRUTE" (x) as a reference to Kanye because let's be honest, she probably never trusted him after 2009 and rightfully so. "Et tu, Brute?" is a Shakespeare reference and a phrase that is now used to describe a friend stabbing you in the back. This would be more applicable to us, her fans. V1:

This easily refers to 12/2014 - Kissgate. Feeling so gatsby for that whole year; throwing big parties. She had to close the gate before she was outed prematurely by the fans watching her during the concert. We were the last ones she ever expected having to protect herself from; she had been so open, glass-closeting, but the fans took it too far and crossed the line of her privacy. She was surprised by the network that had expanded to track her every move. A couple years pass, V2:

It was so nice being friends again

There I was giving you a second chance

Think back to the election of 2016; Taylor being back in the media and more open again with her life wasn't enough at this point. America had reached a boiling point and everyone had to pick a side; even Taylor's most dedicated fans were constantly expressing their disappointment at her so she changed her priorities and went into hiding.

As @paradisekisses once posted, “Not everything is about Kanye.”

Call It What You Want End of 2016

The lyrics all harken to 1989 (x) and this is when her reputation has never been worse (again), but she’s stronger this time and it didn’t break her as much as post RED era. Not to mention, she’s madly in love and found her end game so nothing else really matters to her; her priorities have been shifted and she knows what truly matters in her life.

Call her what you want, she is Karlie's Partner in Crime. it's an obvious call to the gold cage, hostage to my feelings; she will jail herself once more with this ((hopefully)) last beard and that will be the official death of (2.0? 6.0?) Old Taylor. The best part is the BTS video showing how much fun she was actually having in the gold cage. There are beautiful analysis of this song (x/x/x/x/x) , and to me it's just the most real/pure love song. Love isn't just about all the good times, it's how your partner and you navigate the bad. Sometimes the worst moments in life show us just how strong our relationships are and bring us closer together.

New Year's Day January 1, 2017

This Taylor is hidden from us because she will probably never be as open with the GP, media, or her fans ever again. Who knows what to come in the future, but she actively tells us "don't read the last page" and to "hold onto the memories." Ugh, this is making me tear up -- I just officially joined the fandom!! Don’t tell me this is it already... (x/x/x)

This post highlighted the importance of the sunshine necklace with Taylor's obvious sarcasm in the BTS in saying “It’s really important to wear subtle jewelry in music videos, I’ve learned.” (If anyone can forward the gif I’d love to add it to the post :))

From London and Back

He’s a pop star wet dream - all confidence and charm and jaw carved from marble. Too bad you don’t like celebrities.

Before you got into PR, you had never had strong opinions about pop stars. You just figured they were slightly more arrogant than the normal person and with a few more zeros in their savings account. Also, they tended to have better hair - which seemed unfair. But then you actually met celebrities and it would be unfair to say they are all rotten, but you wouldn’t ever want to marry one. They are sickeningly disillusioned about the life of the un-famous lot, and waving their money around, and tricking people with a wink and a flip of their - admittedly - luxurious hair.

Then you meet him - Harry Styles. And you’re not easily phased. Really, you’re not. It would take meeting the Beyonce or The Queen to really throw you off your cool-as-a-cucumber celebrity game. After all, your occupation is in public relations, so famous is your business. But he kind of flips everything you know on its head.

So, really, it had all started ten minutes ago, when the keys to a shiny, black, SUV had just been dropped into your anxiously awaiting hands. After all of the flights had been canceled, you were lucky to get one of the last hire cars that would manage to get you back to London before the oncoming winter storm left you stranded in Edinburgh. Not that you didn’t like Edinburgh, but you had been there for work for the last week and were itching to get out of a hotel, back to your home, and back to Reginald - your cat.

So, when your hands closed around the literal key to your one-way ticket back home, you weren’t keen to entertain any idea that would keep that from you. Especially ones from entitled pop stars.

And especially when that pop star tries to convince you by saying, “But I need this car, m’Harry Styles.”

And especially when he says that and then acts like the world is going to stop. As if you’re just going to hand him the key, roll over, and die. Like that was the argument you were waiting to hear. Like you were just playing some silly little game and now that he’s presented that argument, well what is there left to say?

“Oh, well then,” you love how quickly his eyebrows pull together at your sarcastic tone. “Why didn’t you say so? Of course you can have the key to my vehicle that I just queued for three hours on. Because, after all, you are Harry Styles.”

“S’not what I meant -,” he runs his hands through his hair in frustration. With a deep breath and a tight smile, he tries again. “I need to get back to London fo’ business. S’important. Can I - please -” his jaw clenches hard around that word, “have the keys to that car?”

It’s not that you’re cold or stone-hearted, but you’ve met celebrities before that think their lives and whims and schedules are somehow more important than yours. And while you’re not sure Harry, per say, is like that, he’s not exactly sold you on the fact that he’s not the run of the mill and I’m the center of the universe type of lad.

Especially, the way he’s looking at you now, like he’s never been told ‘no’ a day in his life. You’d be doing him a favour, really. Building character and all...

So, with that in mind, you give him a biting smile and mention that you may have passed a sign about a bus earlier.

You could play the affronted noise that slips past his lips on a loop.

“You want me to take a bus?” He glares at you, unamused. Like jaw tight, eyebrows knitted together, flared nostrils kind of unamused, and it makes you bite back a deepening smirk.

“Mingle with the commoners, pop star.” You resist the urge to smugly pat away the scowl wrinkling his face.

With flair, you snap up your luggage handle and promptly turn on your heel and stroll away. It feels good to know that you have a pop star’s eyes on you as you’re walking away, even if it’s only because he wants what you’re holding. You manage to take ten steps with that head held high, full chest, warm pride feeling before it drops right out of your stomach, lands on the floor, and crawls away to some dark corner at the words you hear him call to you gruffly.

“I’ll pay you.”

You stop dead in your tracks; your rolling luggage bites into the back of your ankle slightly.

As a rule, you’ve always considered yourself to be a woman of a decent amount of pride, but the abrupt stop at his words would say otherwise - you’re shameless. It’s not even that you’re that desperate for money because you’re not. You’ve got a decent job and a possible promotion coming up. But - Christ - you’re not so well off that you’re just going to let an opportunity like this pass by.

You clear your throat before crisply asking, “Excuse me?”

Harry doesn’t respond immediately. Instead, you hear his footsteps sauntering up slowly behind you. The light step of his Chelsea boots clicking against the marble floor and echoing throughout the empty airport terminal. When he speaks again, his mouth is pressed up tight against your left ear, his hand sneaking in front of your chest to await the dropping of your keys into his open palm.

“I said I will pay you. I need to get back to London and I need that car.” His breath is hot against your ear. “How does £800 sound?”

You turn to face him. He’s close enough that you have to take a step back to even look up and see the smug smirk on his face because he knows he’s found a crack. Money means nothing to him and is a factor to you. He’s rolled back on his heels, his jaw angled slightly so he’s looking down his nose at you.

You flicker your eyes away nervously before regaining your composure and leveling him with an even stare, your jaw tilted up challengingly.

“Make it £1200- ” you pause while he snorts “- and you have to take me with you.”

“£1200? That car could not have cost y’more than £300. You’re joking -”

“I’m not.”

He runs his hand through his hair, his lips drawn tight in irritation, and you can’t help but be satisfied that all traces of pop star smugness have disappeared.

You dangle the keys in front of him tauntingly. “Look around you, pop star. This airport is empty, people are bunkering down. I’m your last hope out of here. Or, like I said, there’s the bus...”

He rubs at his jaw, just the faintest stubble shadowing his skin, and stares down at you with a hard glare. It takes everything within in you to not break eye contact, to glare right back, and to let him know you don’t falter at a challenge. Especially challenges from the likes of smug pop stars.

“£1200?” He pauses and you nod confidently. “Fine.”

He reaches up to snag the keys out of your hand before snarling, “But I’m driving.” He turns and storms ahead to leave you hurrying to trail his long strides.

II.

You quickly discover that apparently everyone is trying to get home before the storm hits. So, an hour after Harry drove you out of the car park, you’re still eight miles from the airport and stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Luckily, the first snowflakes are only just beginning to fall.

“This is terrible,” you repeat for what must be the sixth time and Harry ignores you - again.

He had grumbled something about not wanting to hear a peep from you even before he had begrudgingly took your luggage from your hand and shoved it into the boot.

You had quickly retorted that you had little desire to converse with him, but now you’re bored, your mobile is nearly dead, and damned if you weren’t going to find entertainment wherever you could.

Pretty soon you decide he’s not quite as charismatic in real life as you were led to believe from his sensationalised media headlines and articles. He’s a bit moodier and dangerous seeming - like he’s on edge. Perhaps, your coercion had something to do with it.

“Let’s make the most of this situation,” you suggest democratically. “Let’s get to know each -”

“No.”

“Please? I’m terribly bored and it will be fun -”

“M’driving.”

You look pointedly at the cars inching by around you and roll your eyes.

He sighs heavily, which you interpret as a yes. Or, at least, you interpret as not a no; you take the bait quickly.

“So, let’s start with something easy, yeah? What’s your favourite film?”

You turn eagerly in your seat, legs tucked up so your heels are pressed into your bum and knees into your chest. For a second, he acts like he isn’t going to answer, but you wait patiently. Eventually, he gives.

“What’s m’favourite film?” he contemplates slowly, one wrist thrown casually over the steering wheel and the other resting against the window. His thumb and forefinger pinch the side of his lip in contemplation. “Probably, The Notebook - I’ve watched it a dozen times.”

You can’t help but squish up your nose and cringe. It took you reading one Nicholas Spark novel to determine he’s the absolute worst. It’s not that you’re not a romance person, but it’s all so sappy, and angsty, and always with the terrible one-liners.

“What?” He’s snaps, the offense clear on his face. “S’wrong with The Notebook?”

“It’s more like what’s right with it. It’s horrible.”

He looked less outraged when you demanded £1200.

“It’s a romantic classic,” he argues, turning in his seat slightly so he can more easily glance at you. His his free hand flaps at you in emphasis. “Ryan Gosling is a charming, blue-collar, every-man. I mean, basically, that film launched his career and Rachel McAdams was just -”

“Ugh,” you groan, interrupting his defense. “What’s your number two? Second favourite film, please?”

He eases back in his seat slightly, shooting you an irritated glance. He mutters something under his breath that sounds vaguely like a remark about poor behavior.

“S’nothing wrong with The Notebook…” he grumbles moodily and then offers after a minute. “Second favourite film is probably - probably, Pretty Woman.”

You raise your eyebrows and squish your face distastefully.

“S’pose there’s somethin’ wrong with the one fo’ you, too?”

“No,” you fumble with the heat instead of looking at him, “I suppose if that’s the kind of film you like -”

“What do y’mean kind of film I like”?

You shrug your shoulders. “Just predictable for a pop star, really...big powerful man, beautiful, submissive woman -”

He snorts, interrupting your criticism. “You don’t like powerful men?”

You feel a slight blush heat your cheeks, but you will it away as you shake your head. “Don’t like the submissive woman,” you retort and watch as Harry’s throat bobs slightly, and he runs his tongue over his teeth.

"Interesting,” he notes simple, and then taps you on the leg so you will look back at him. “What’s yours then? If you’re such a film critic, then what’s your favourite?”

You dismiss his question with a wave of your hand. “I don’t really have one. I like too many of them.”

He laughs dryly, his face just barely splitting into a grin. “Is that how y’play then? Criticise everythin’ but don’t give any of y’own. Y’really just a brat? Huh?”

Your cheeks burn at the accusation, and you’re not sure how long you hesitate in your response. You're glad when a car honks from behind you, and Harry curses, and his attention turns back to the road ahead.

“Whatever,” you mutter after a minute, crossing your hands over your chest, and turning in your seat. “I’m bored of that game anyway.”

He takes a minute to slow as the traffic clogs up once again. “Well, then let m’guess…,” he taps you on the leg again and it sends sparks to your chest. “Turn and look at me fo’ a second”

You do as he says and watch his eyes scan up and down your body - his green orbs moving slowly behind his heavy black lashes. It’s the first time you feel like you’re noticing each other - like really noticing each other.

And you can see why he’s a celebrity. He’s conventionally attractive in a way that you suppose might appeal to some people. Like his jaw is defined and sharp, even when it’s not tensed with irritation and his eyes have these flakes of golden colour wrapped around his dark pupils. You even notice that the short stubble poking around his lips help to add depth to his plump mouth. When his lips twitch with just the slightest smirk, your eyes flutter close and you have to ignore the stutter in your chest. Unfortunately, he demands your attention right away when he suddenly reaches on to your lap to clasp his hand around yours.

“You have to promise you won’t fall in love with me,” he smirks and his eyes flash with something dangerous and menacing.

You feel your mouth go dry, and you try to pull your hands from his grip but he doesn’t let go. “What? I wouldn’t -”

You watch as the white of his teeth peek out to bite at his grinning lip and dimple his cheek. “A Walk to Remember,” he adds, turning his attention back to the road.

“That’s a terrible guess,” you grimace and his smile only deepens as he lets go of your hands and swipes a thumb over the bottom fat of his lip. His jaw seems more set, more determined, more confident about something you’ve yet to figure out.

You swallow the lump in your throat and discretely wipe your sweaty palms along your lap. Suddenly, this car doesn’t feel big enough for the two of you.

III.

You’re not sure when you fell asleep, but it’s all the sudden very dark out and you’re no longer moving.

“Traffic, again?” you ask groggily, rubbing at your tired eyes.

You look over to see Harry’s profile. The glow of the traffic light reflects off his face, creating deep shadows along his jaw and nose.

He shakes his head, just barely glancing over at you before accelerating as the light turns green “Roads are too slick. M’finding a hotel fo’ the night.”

You sit up in your seat, shaking your head and suddenly feeling wide awake. “No, no, no - I have a meeting tomorrow. We can’t stop.” The flood of panic in your chest seeps out to colour your voice. ‘You can just drive slow. We might get back late but it’s better than -”

“Sorry, doll,” Harry interrupts without sounding really very sorry at all. “Call in sick.” He says it so easily, just a slip off the tongue, that it immediately reminds you of why celebrities are a different breed of people and just how easily they lose touch with the reality of commoners.

As if the matter is settled, he shifts the car into park in front of an expensive looking high-rise hotel.

“Listen, here, Mr. Pop Star,” you clip, turning so you can glare at him. “I can’t just call in sick. I have to be there. My boss -”

“Will be happy if you come in alive and in one piece.”

You slam your hands on the lock button as Harry turns off the ignition and reaches for the handle.

“No, this is my car and you’re taking me to London,” your hand stays sealed to the lock, keeping you both in the car.

Harry looks at you in amusement and - regrettably - like he’s completely unmoved by your argument. A weight builds in your chest as your mind flashes back to the fateful moment you dropped your keys into his slimy, manipulative hand.

You’re a git.

You hold out your free hand to him when he seems determined to wait you out. “Fine, the deal’s off. I’ll take my keys back. Forget the money-”

“Not a chance, doll,” he stuffs the keys into his front pocket, pokes you lightly in the ribs, and takes advantage of your reaction to pop the lock, swing his door open, and step out. With one hand on the roof, he ducks back down to look at you. “Deal’s still on. Now, are y’comin’ in or are y’sleepin’ out here?”

He looks infuriatingly patient, and reasonable, and like there’s nothing on his face that says he is willing to be convinced, but you can’t bring yourself to concede. You glare at him, chest puffing slightly, and tension in your jaw as you clench your teeth.

“Like I said, a brat. When y’done with this lil’ tantrum, come inside and grab the key to your room.” He sighs, shutting his door and walking through the front entry and disappearing out of sight.

Christ. You’re known for being impulsive and not always thinking things through, but this whole ordeal might just take the cake.

You sit there, stewing in your frustration, and considering your options. It takes you a minute before you come to the terms with the fact that you don’t have any. Angrily, you pull out your mobile and, with the last bit of your battery, shoot off an apologetic, if not groveling, email to your boss explaining the situation.

It’s beyond irritating to storm into the lobby to an insufferably satisfied Harry waving you over from the front desk. You take a small bit of pleasure in brushing the slight snow accumulation off your body and on to him.

“Knew you’d come to y’senses.”

“Piss off,” you curse.

He chortles, but it’s dry and humorless. If there was even a chance that you could snatch your keys out of his pocket and make it to the car before he caught you, you would. He doesn’t look terribly coordinated, but neither are you, so you wouldn’t stand a chance. You lean your back against the desk and grump as you watch the giant telly broadcast all the crashes and accidents on the motorways.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Styles, but we’re booked out due to the storm. All we have available is your second option. Is that alright?”

You whip your head around to ask about what second option at the same time Harry says, “Yes, that’ll be fine.”

“It’s a suite, so more space than the regular room. Although, I’m sure smaller than you’re used to,” the lady hands a single room key into the waiting hands of a tight-smiling Harry. For the second time that day, Harry has something in his hands that you desperately want for yourself.

“I’m not sharing a room with you,” you whisper furiously as the woman points in the direction of the lift. “I don’t even know you. You could very well be a murderer or some kind of pervert. Celebrities all have secrets.”

Harry rolls his eyes at the suggestion and stares down at you in boredom.

“You could get your kicks by strangling me or something. I don’t know how you get your jollies -”

“Just sign here, Mr. Styles,” the woman interrupts, placing a receipt on the counter and Harry scribbles in a few places before giving her a small thanks.

“Are you listening to me?” you ask, as Harry adjusts the bag on his shoulder and reaches down to snap up your luggage by your feet. He begins to walk away, leaving you to scurry after him.

“No,” Harry barely spares you a glance as he pressing the button to the lift.

“What?”

You try to grab your luggage from Harry’s grip but he just shakes you off.

“No, I’m not listening to you.”

There’s a ding and the doors slide open.

You make an offended noise, watching him step into the lift with your key, your room, and all your belongs. You’ve got no leverage.

After one last lingering glance of the lobby, you step into the lift behind him. It’s irritating to watch the small, satisfied smile that pulls Harry’s lips as the doors close in front of you.

“We can’t share a room. We don’t even know each other. What if I steal your wallet? Or your phone? Or your pants or something? I could steal something off you and sell it for money!”

He ignores you, leaning forward to press the button to floor 18.

“I mean it! I might steal the keys in the middle of the night-”

“I can tie you up,” Harry warns, glancing down at you threateningly.

You gasp and start rambling even more to hide the burn running up your neck and painting your ears. “Well, like I said, for all I know, you could very well be a murderer. I know what you Hollywood types get away with. Cannibalism and the like. You could easily be a some kind of pervert -”

He corners you abruptly, dropping the luggage, and surprising you enough that it forces your back against the wall as he stands toe-to-toe with you in the moving lift. “That’s enough” he growls, caging you in with a hand resting on the wall behind your head. “Apologize.”

You stutter, feeling a heat flush your face at his close proximity.

He leans in closer and you find yourself stuttering to respond.

“I didn’t mean to say that. I’m not saying you are a pervert just that-” Harry snarls, leaving in even closer, and you’re forced put your hands up to his chest to hold him back. “I’m sorry.”

Your eyes flutter close and you look at the ground as his intense gaze studies you. He leans down, his head dipping so that his forehead is barely brushing against yours. His other hand comes up to cup your jaw and drag your eyes back to his. Your breath hitches in your throat as you feel his fingers wrap lightly around your throat and you burn as he squeezes just enough to plump your cheeks.

There’s that same dangerous glower in his eyes and a confidence, too. His lips are tight with venom and arrogance. It makes something in you explode with need and desire.

“You said we’ve all got secrets, right? Us celebrity type?” you don’t move and after a pause he guides your head up and down with his fingers still wrapped around your jaw. He smirks when your breath hitches. “Well, this is mine,” he eyes you up and down, making a show of it, and keeping your jaw still firmly locked in place. “It looks like it might be yours, too.”

He chuckles and he must be able to feel the racing of your pulse from where he’s wrapped around your neck. He taps you lightly on the cheek and then let’s go of you entirely before stepping away. After picking your luggage back up, he turns to you and there’s nothing but geniality, and patience, and good-natured concern coating his features.

You’re so shocked by his change in demeanour that you’re surprised your brain is working well enough to be indignant at all. You can feel your heart in your stomach, your pulse in your fingers and behind your ears, even your mouth has gone dry.

“I don’t have a secret. I didn’t -”

“Do you trust me?”

The warmth of his gaze radiates toward you and the intensity is blocked slightly as a stray bit of his fringe falls down to brush against the top of his eyebrow.

“Not at all,” you whisper, still reeling from his proximity.

He smiles, a crinkly-eyed one, with dimples, and teeth, and a bit of tongue poking out from between his bite. If he hadn’t just had you pressed up against the wall, his hand gripping your jaw, and his fingers ghosting over your throat, then it would look cute. Right now, it looks absolutely devilish.

“Good,” he laughs, dryly. “Cause we’re not sharing a room.”

You stare at him, perplexed. What in the world was that all about then? The leaning in close and the threat of tying you up and the touch and the ‘do you trust me’ garbage? He just wanted to rile you up? Put your heart in your throat and send your stomach to the floor. Christ, what an insufferable, little -

Ding.

The doors slide open and Harry takes one big step forward, walking off the lift, and turning his head slightly to reveal a small smirk.

“We’re sharing a bed.”

Fuck.
