not to overuse this word but it’s fun! i do have fun with that. its good to have something (like an oc in this case) and to use it in a multitude of ways. from identity and feelings, like you said. like you can basically use it to vent in a way. or being a writing exercise! i enjoy writing up the concepts for this story and world and being like okay where can i take this now? what would be in it? how similar or close would it be to our world? stuff like that. it’s been neat to kind of see where it goes.

How would he deal with the guilt of "straying away"?

Even more so, how would he react to his darling's affection? Knowing he should resist but being so weak to their touch and love. If he were to open up to them about his thoughts of them being an angel but also somehow temptation and they would respond " maybe I am, who says angels aren't sent to test you". They mean it in a joking way but it just makes him spiral.

abraham is an interesting guy when it comes with coping w his feelings abt his darling. i could not say for certain what abraham would consider pushing the boundaries of his faith since he’s an expert at excusing himself one way or another ; part of him genuinely believes that nothing he does or feels regarding them is bad because clearly they have to be otherworldly to make him feel the way he does ; and just being with them must be inherently purifying! nothing truly bad could make him so happy, so fulfilled. far more than his religion ever has. he won’t mind if you’re not religious yourself (it’s a bonus to him either way tbh).

the part of him that knows that’s not entirely true tries to validate and compartmentalize his feelings in various different ways. he’s been such a virtuous man his whole life so it’s okay to indulge a little now, right? sinful thoughts and sinful actions are entirely different ; as long as he doesn’t act on any of them, he’s still good! his faith is so strong, he’s sure if he asks for forgiveness, he will receive it. things like that. he’d pray every night and beg to be forgiven, because he truly cannot help himself when he’s around his darling.

as for his reaction to affection, honestly? it depends on what it is. but in general, if darling is doing something to him, then he’s technically not doing anything wrong so long as he doesn’t actively reciprocate. but he will inevitably reciprocate, and when he does, it won’t be his fault because he didn’t initiate. that’s how it works, isn’t it? he has to mentally victimize himself a bit in order to accept any sort of affection but it is so worth it to him.

and genuinely, if darling ever told abe that they were in fact an angel, he would genuinely believe them. tbh it’d make him feel a bit better because if you’re truly an ethereal being then it really does mean that nothing you do together is wrong. an angel wouldn’t purposefully lead him astray; maybe you’re a reward for being so devout all his life? he wouldn’t be sure. but any excuse to make his adoration for you as virtuous as he feels it to be, he would accept.

its 6am and I'm complaining myself through the ending of purgatory k? This is just the bitching not a full balanced analysis, bits I genuinely enjoyed are missing so it looks like I have a worse opinion than I did, its below a cut because a lot of people don't want that and that's absolutely good. I'm just processing through.

I think purgatory ending feels bad because we were promised by the way it was advertised and treated the end of the arc, and what we got was another fucking mid point instead. A mid point which after this going on for so long nobody really wanted. Setting up new project cool! But it felt miserable to watch the end. Probably could have been helped if the CCs had more info on a meta level - just the timescales and that this wasn't actually the end of the arc - so they could pace themselves and us better. The eggs missing has gone on for far too long, we've been given far too little to work with, and it's just not fun viewing any more. Which is why my engagement is so dependent on the next little while.

That, plus getting to the boat on foot was impossible without near perfection - something they were never going to all have. I like giving qMaxo his big sendoff with the nuke which solves nothing! But people who were legitimately trying to escape (Cellbit, Tina, off the top of my head - Cellbit just legit got lost in the underground. He said after he decided to stay but like... really? We'll have to wait and see next time he plays qsmp. If nothing else he legit had shit to do planned, and I feel like he would discuss it more with Roier if he was going to perma-kill Cellbit as that's massive to put on someone else's character. Pretty sure ccCellbit was just teasing like he fucking does but we'll see. Also changes what Maxo did if any of them die to it /significantly/. I'll be genuinely worried for ccMaxo if his characters actually pretty neat death arc resulted in a fan favourite character permadying in a game without permadeath) should have had a legit chance to do so. If they were supposed to be able to. I really hope the admins smooth that bit over one way or another, because it just made shit feel extremely bad. Kinda expect the /actual/ ruling to be if one person made it they all did, but dear god they needed to tell the players that immediately after or whatever if so. Failing that you could maybe have the others in the Nether or something, but youd need to coordinate everyone who didn't make it and that'd just suck logistically. The sensible answer is if one person got there they all did because this isn't a high legality sort of game. For players.

Like the other eggs were probably kidnapped by something and reported out? And I'm betting on black concrete plot as that's the plot actually associated with them disappearing in the first place, but for all it's cool moments up until then it just... dropped the ball. Tbh the entire thing with the eggs being involved was a massive ball drop which lead to /one/ cool conversation but otherwise just made everything infinitely less enjoyable.

Poor BBH. Like cc wise. He's one of a whole lot of them who have horrific rp safety practices, but also there's not really anyone to teach them that and that's nothing to punish someone for. Hope it gets hashed out with him. All of them but especially him.

Having players of another project as "advertising" for a new project without them knowing more in advance tastes kinda shitty. Very shitty. We'll see how tied it ends up being but that's just not comfy.

Quackity saying about big stuff planned is absolute ass. Like legitimately and out of character the CCs genuinely need a break for a bit you can't just throw them back into heavy stuff immediately. They need space to breath oc and find their footing ic. Most of them have streamed far more than usual this fortnight, and even for those who do stream daily usually it's been intense. You can say if its hurting them they can just take a break but you cannot convince me they can when their literal irl incomes depend on this. Some more than others, but they do.

Also like the tension just genuinely doesn't hold that long. Most of what I run is combat heavy fantasy events, but I've done horror too. And a big bit of running horror events is studying how pacing and tension works, especially over an extended period (horror events locally tend to be multi-day). You /can/ change the usual layout, but you have to know your fucking shit and be really careful if you do, and the admins and Quackity just don't seem to - as a collective whole, some individuals may - have the experience necessary to fuck with the formula. Like. I'm burnt out, the players are ooc burnt out, the fandom generally seems burnt out - not giving the players a win here was already a mistake, but the tension /has/ snapped. Too many people are too burnt out from playing more than usual and all that, under very high stakes circumstances, for very little reward. There needs to be a break where players who do other stuff can play other stuff and players who don't can take the time to find their footing again. Tension levels are not sustainable and they broke them open. If they hadn't revealed the eggs you could have stretched it another few days, but they did. At which point losing the eggs again is genuinely so fucking unsatisfying. They could have only been shown the winning egg. Like sure fuck with people, that's what's going on IC and OC maybe it was supposed to be reassurance, but it just ended up feeling ghoulish. It was so obviously playing on feelings it just fell flat for me. Not even the fun playing with feelings, just a fuck you.

Also communication has been fucking atrocious. Yes keep twists in the bag, I can see arguments for all plot points, but the players needed to know the timescale, the fact it was a PvP not a lore event, and that this wasn't the end of the eggs missing arc rather an interlude waaaaaaaaaaay earlier. Like they found out as these things became obvious, but given the time commitment it demanded they needed to know like weeks before it started. As soon as it was announced. We can tall all we like about trusting the admins, but the admins have got to fucking trust their players to still make good viewing times even if not everything is a complete surprise. It fucked over Cellbit and Roier and their murder plot planning, it fucked over a lot of people ooc and their streaming schedules and their ability to do actual life things. Forever when given the Judas plot should have been told in advance when it would be activatable. The players - not the characters or the audience, the players - should have known it was 15 days, PvP, only 1 egg was on the cards for now, that the chance to save the others will come later (I have no doubt it will), and that they would need to escape fast at the end. Not the why, not the how, not the plot, but you need to know the fucking stakes.

Like okay let's look at shit I run a sec. Its nor perfect, but we've been building on a 20+ year tradition of larp in the same place and learning from what does and doesnt work. Info players have in advance:

date and time. for things run for and at the university, dates generally are announced start of the year, and which system will be which day is the start of every term. For events for the uni but at an unusual place or time (often an IC dinner party or similar), 3 weeks in advance. For stuff not associated with the university (I help with fewer of these, as far fewer happen and theyte the ones i can still play with my disability)... well, they tend to be multi day in a hired venue and players pay a lot of money to be there, so its usually about a year and a half in advance. The stuff below about pitches are for saturday ones - paid for multi day events all that info is announced at least a year in advance, and for single day non-university ones at least 6 months. But like qsmp is a constantly running thing so the university stuff is a fairer comparison.

Every event has a "pitch". This goes up the Tuesday before for Saturday events - theres a couple of different teams running different genres but same place same time theres a larp every termtime saturday just 9/30 are run by my team. The pitch will contain the information the characters know going into a mission or social or whatever. If theres a twist the twist isn't mentioned, ofc, just the initial setup. Then, there's an out of character section, with stuff like date and time and reminders to weather weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes.

If the event is /not/ in the format players expect, in the out of character info including things like the time, we say that. We run combat heavy stuff. If it's purely social, we say so. If it'll be more Freeform than usual, we say so. If the party is getting split we - you guessed it - say so.

Our events have different levels of IC rewards. The basic reward can always be assumed (3 gold, iirc). Theres also 4 and 5 gold days. If its not 3 gold, it says so in the pitch, and players know this is a difficulty rstinf system. 3 is normal, 4 is "this is designed to be challenging for late end high xp characters and is likely to kill lower levels", 5 is "we are actively trying to kill someone". Death is always an option, but the ref team don't usually want it.

Sometimes there are RP rewards too. These are not explicately stated, but are alluded to "you will be paid so long as you eliminate the monster. If you capture it and deliver it to the university, however, the chancellor promises an extra something for you" sort of thing. "The Dowager Duchess is well known for rewarding those in her favour. Impress her, and she may do the same for you".

If there's distressing content that isn't covered by genre and game style, we include a warning. Last time was "this session will include horror elements. A list of content warnings is available from any ref on request", and we DMed players we knew have triggers on that list the same day pitch went out to liase with them. Yes even when the trigger is a plot twist or a spoiler because fuck you player safety will always be most important. One which had content warnings but was not horror "this session contains potentially distressing material. A list of content warnings is available from any ref on request".

And like... call me naive but this is the sort of info the players should have? In advance they should have a summary (yes it's also given IC at the start of the event, but it means they can prep properly), dates and times well in advance (so they can prep their lives and other projects), expected rewards (even if vague), and any particularly common triggers (like say a third party intentionally sewing paranoia and fucking with mental health of characters) should have a "theres triggers here please put a message in your help channel for a list". I'd say also some indicator of where on a plot arc something falls.

We dont give this because our pacing plot arc wise is determined by how we run them. Paid events are all always one offs (I run them with a different group of people but same circle) - except when they aren't in which case this is made clear at the pitching stage- and uni ones its dictated by the university schedule - we run nine main events a year, 3 each term. There's a small climax last linear of every term, and a major one at the end of a year. Yearly arcplots do not always exist but when they do they end with the last linear of term. There are some other plots brewing over longer periods - when those come to a head, they will become the main plot for a year and their climaxes run on yearly arcplot rules. It is never the case that all sessions in a year are arcplot related, to give players not interested in a specific thing something to do.

Other things they could probably do with include a safe word and establishing a way for an admin to indicate a fuck up due to glitch or mistake - probably an "ignore me" emote only admins have access to.

This all being said - the admin team want people to have fun and for it to go well, and the medium is much younger than traditional LARP. Information for their specific media does not exist, and while they maybe should look at rp for ideas they probably look at tabletop and don't even consider LARP - let alone larp styles more common in Europe. I can say things all I want, but I'm just a guy over here. The admins are trying their best and do want the best for their players, and will have a plan. It's just infuriating sometimes.

Redoing the first post I ever did on this blog: Trying to assign a shark to CFO🦈

The first time i did this I was honestly very nervous about putting my stupid takes out into the fandom, but I'm ready now, and I have stronger CFO shark opinions. I'm linking to all the sharks' Wikipedia pages, for those interested in sharks!!

I gotta be honest, this is about Charles, but mostly this post is me sharing fun shark facts. I hope you guys are chill with that.

Same as the last time, I still have some honorable mentions.

(ALSO i tagged this post under some shark tags, this is the guy we're talking about, btw, I'd love for you guys to vote in the poll at the bottom of the post)

I considered something like the Basking Shark. However, they're quite large, and I think Charles looks harmless, so the Basking shark was out. Additionally, despite they're large size, they're pretty docile. They're one of the three species of sharks that eat plankton! But, I envisioned a slightly more slender, swift hunter type of shark.

I also considered a type of Thresher Shark, as I liked their unique appearance, but ultimately I couldn't decide on a species. I think I wanted Charles to be one just because they have cool caudal fins.

I very briefly considered The Great White, because to most people that's the shark. But I just wasn't feeling it. They're cute, but I don't see Charles being one.

In the original post I listed The Silky Shark, but I'm taking this back, because now that I think about it, I just wanted Charles to be a Silky Shark because they're my favorite....

Moving on to the real choices now.

Bull Shark (Carcharhinus leucas)

The Bull Shark is one of my favorite sharks. It's in the family Carcharhinidae, which makes it a Requiem Shark! (which is also where I get my tumblr name from) I didn't do this on purpose, but all the sharks in this list are actually Requiem Sharks. Requiem sharks are known for being very fast and efficient hunters, and of course the Bull Shark is no exception. Bull Sharks are known to be aggressive towards people, alongside the Great White and the Tiger shark (though don't let a certain awesome 1975 movie fool you, you're odds of being attacked by sharks are very slim, these bad boys are just know for doing it the most) Bull sharks are euryhaline, meaning they can adapt to water of varying salinity, meaning they can do just fine in freshwater. This sort of adaptability reminds me of Charles, and tbh, I think Bull Sharks just kind of look like him some how.

Blue Shark (Prionace glauca)

The Blue Shark looks like a goober. You can find them fucking everywhere, check out this map from Wikipedia. They're one of the most wide-spread shark species!

The Blue Shark's name isn't a stretch, they really are blue! Curious, and not typically aggressive, they've been known to approach divers. They're also known to be more social than other sharks, and sometimes travel in schools separated by sex, at least as juveniles. It's slender, streamlined appearance makes me think of Charles, in the sense that somehow the Blue shark looks like it'd wear a suit, but maybe more like a silly colored suit. Like blue! The long pectoral fins also remind me of him, for some reason. I don't know why, it's not like he has long arms?

If you're familiar with the BLÅHAJ, you may know the blue shark! The common name for Prionace glauca in both Swedish and Dutch is blåhaj, which just means Blue Shark!

Oceanic Whitetip Shark (Carcharhinus longimanus)

A shark with a very good design, look at that aesthetically pleasing coloring and the rounded fins? This is someone's OC shark, i swear. The Oceanic Whitetip is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN. They cannot pump water through their gills, so they're one of the shark species that has to always be moving! They're more leisurely while swimming, and have been known to breach the water.

Honestly, I think this is a good candidate for Charles shark because I just love the way these sharks look!

Sandbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus)

This silly guy is the Sandbar shark, one of the largest costal sharks in the world! They're known for their brownish coloring (another common name for them is the brown shark) and their tall dorsal fin. They also have rather large pectoral fins. They are listed as endangered, as they are hunted for their fins. I chose this shark honestly because it's brown, and the aforementioned tall dorsal fin. I was mostly choosing the sharks based on looks, and this one easily looks the most like Charles to me.

Anyways, thanks for reading my silly shark post! When I did this like, three months ago, I was working on this AU thingy, but I'd got totally sidetracked trying to assign a damn shark to Charles. The original idea was he was gonna be like... y'know, a mermaid or something, but I never got around to working on it, mostly because of the sharks. If you have any interest in it, I could do Dethklok/any one else from MTL as sharks. Honestly, i'd love an excuse to combine my interests.

1. What motivates you to write?

I'm not exactly sure tbh. It almost feels like a compulsion. There are days where I simply do not feel good in my body if I haven't written anything. Then there are others where I can't bring myself to write because I'm too tired or too distracted from life. Honestly the second I get a clear head and enough time to myself, I'll start writing.

2. A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them)

This isn't from my WIP, but from a fanfic I wrote a while ago. I want to try to find a way to incorporate it into something. Not sure where though.

“I know this seems like it’s coming out of nowhere,” he said, “but promise it’s not. I’ve had a long time to think about it.  A few years, actually. I guess, I just didn’t realize how deep I was in it until about five minutes ago.”

She kept silent, but the simple fact she hadn’t told him to get out gave him the confidence to keep going. . 

“I meant it when I said I’m crazy about you. I like that you take your sugar with a drop of coffee.  I like how you sing to yourself when you’re happy.  I like that you never seem to get cold.  I like that you never lose your head under fire, but still need me to get rid of spiders. I like that you can laugh at yourself.  I like that you can laugh at me. Hell, I like that you’re perfectly willing to slap my face if the situation calls for it.

I like so many things about you Liz, and that’s just the stuff I found out on accident.  I can only imagine the stuff I’d learn if I started loving you on purpose."

3. Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them and what are they like?

I really do enjoy writing Finn. The boy just makes my smile.

Close second is another OC which I wrote for fanfic who I want to save and put someplace else, Lucy. She's my softest girl who has a lot of love to give. Might figure out a way to put her in this regency setting somewhere, but who knows.

4. What process of writing do you enjoy the most?

The first draft spree. The moment when you get an idea and you have write it down as quickly as possible. It's rough and definitely will need some editing, but that rush cannot be topped. It just feels satisfying to exorcise even the smallest of scenes out of my body.

5. What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)

Dialogue, hands down. It's at least the part I've gotten the most compliments on.

6. What is something in the writeblr community is most enjoyable?

I've only just started to dip my toe in, but I really do love answering asks. I like seeing other writer's process and knowing I'm not alone. It's just fun!

7. A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)

I've been using Scrivener and it's really helped me keep everything organized. I have a very conspiracy board way of drafting, so having all my random snippets in one place really helps.

8. A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc)

Not sure world building is my strong suit for this current WIP. I suppose I'm enjoying expanding the world of the theatre, but I admittedly need to do more research.

9. What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?

Write anyway. It doesn't have to be the scene that's giving you trouble. It doesn't even have to be for the piece you're trying to focus on, just don't get out of the habit of writing. Once you lose that momentum, it takes a long time to get it back.

10. Tag some people whose works you love/have been your biggest supporters

Gotta give a shout out to @clairelsonao3 for being so welcoming in my introduction to the writeblr community. And @janec23, for being one of the few specifically romance writers to reach out.

I am feeling much better now, especially compared to a few days ago.

You know, I have had this for as long as I can remember, and I know that when it happens, all I can do is to just sit tight, find something that might help take my mind off everything and just log off until I feel better.

In summer is not so bad, tbh, but in winter it tends to get a bit worse (especially around January, it's just UGH).

But I am digressing! All this to say that I am feeling much better, and it means that I can now give your ask the proper attention it deserves!

Tatia's whole wardrobe is made up of mostly leather jackets and coats, and they can go from aviator-type jackets (like the one I drew her in here) or long coats (á-la-Selene from Underworld).

So yes, I can DEFINITELY see Tatiana wearing that particular jacket, and just walk around being all cool (but without trying, because that's just the way she is lol).

As for not allowing others to feel comfortable around her, you are SPOT ON on that.

You see, Tatiana herself is so convinced that she is more trouble than she is worth for, she makes it a point to do all in her power to just project this aura of hostility that usually manages to deter most people around her from approaching her, let alone befriend her.

After playing the game with Rumplestilskin for most of her life, she knows that there is nothing to be gained in getting closer to her, in one way or the other, so she truly is one moment away from just growling at people who gets too close (and good gods, the amount of time she had beef with Bigby about it because he tried to actually get closer to her, since you know, he is the Big Bad Wolf and all of that, but she is still like: Nah, man, you gonna get yourself kill if you interfere with Rumple. Eventually he would succeed in that, but trust and believe that it took a remarkable time).

Another person that actually managed to actually get close to her, despite the whole "I Bite"  façade is actually Robyn Irons, a witch from Santa Clara, but the poor girl cannot recognize danger if it looked at her in the face and had a Neon Sign on its forehead! 😂😂😂

SO YEAH.

Hapax is very pragmatic overall. i think for a while she still has her old dogtags, or whatever the corsair equiv is, but i think they are more something she feels like she *should* hold onto than something that she actually cares about. probably she will get to chuck them into the depths of Luna at some thematically important point of Letting Go of that finally.

& nothing happened to make her that way she is just built like that <3 she doesn't do emotions like other people do.

12. Is your OC cynical or optimistic? Who or what shaped their outlook on life?

Hapax is very cynical about social stuff specifically. she's relatively newly-rezzed (post Battle of Saturn bc her prev life died there, haven't decided When exactly she was rezzed yet tho) and she has absolutely never fit in. a huge part of that is that she was found by corsairs who Knew Her Before, and so there was a constant Expectation that she would be the same as their comrade who had died, and she just isn't!!! and none of them know what to do with that and its not their FAULT bc the entire concept of guardians sucks just so so so bad for normal people, BUT. it still makes Hapax's life immediately post-rez this miserable obstacle course of constantly making missteps that she could not possibly predict, and accidentally hurting people in the process.

and like its miserable but also she does not do empathy, so its mostly just really confusing and frustrating and annoying for her, because she doesn't understand why everyone else *cares* so much, and so she also isn't able to like. soften that interaction in any way, and also doesn't really *want* to, because she's sick of everyone looking at her and seeing someone she is not and CANNOT be (transgender moment).

she gets transferred to another unit of primarily younger corsairs i think who Didn't know her before, but she still just. does not and cannot participate in the social stuff that is absolutely necessary for keeping a group of soldiers together in wartime. she doesn't do camaraderie, and she didn't do corsair training so she is missing on all the shared customs and the intensely close like, pack dynamics that the corsairs run on.

and so she's completely used to literally anything social being a constant barrage of absolutely unmeetable and also opaque expectations, and she'd really just like to get thru the day, eat some solid meals, kill some things, and clean and repair her gear without any of the nonsense.

I'd like her at some point pre-Fuller to be stationed by herself or with one other much older veteran (possibly someone old and crotchety. i <3 cranky old dykes) at some fuck-off outpost as a stopgap method for dealing with her just absolutely abysmal impact on morale lol, where she can bond with someone who maybe doesn't UNDERSTAND her or accept her like Fuller does, but also doesn't *ask* her for anything. bc i do want her to have some sort of bond with the Reef, i do want her to be loyal to the common people there.

i also think that could be a fun point of contention btwn her and Fuller when they go on their whirlwind tour of the DC either in SotHunt or SotWish, where all of a sudden Hapax is going to stonewall shit Fuller wants to do bc of how it will affect people in the Reef, and Fuller is going to be absolutely blindsided bc Hapax has Literally Never Cared Before, why are you suddenly boring and like everyone else, why are you stopping me from my work, etc.

20. Has your OC ever done something terrible and lied about it? Did they run away or blame someone else for it? How long did they maintain the lie and did the truth ever come out?

Fuller has done many many many terrible things but i don't think she has lied about any of them tbh!!! i think lying about something horrible you've done requires a) recognition of it being bad & b) shame or a feeling of being accountable to others, and she has neither djdhfhfhhd. what she DOES have is a shocking disregard for things like others bodily autonomy, or the safety of humanity, or the consequences for her actions, bc it all fades out in the pursuit of Information. she wants so very badly to figure out what makes the Sword Logic *work* on a mathematical/physics level, but i don't think i want it to be for any like. complicated backstory reasons (eg "if i can explain this perfectly then xyz thing in my past will be justified/worth it") i think she's just built like that. i do love a character tortured by the choices they've made in pursuit of a goal, ESPECIALLY if the person they are lying to is themself, but. i think Fuller just sucks <3 the most important thing in the world to her is figuring out How Things Work, and Sword Logic is the most complicated and interesting and thus-far unsolveable puzzle she has encountered.

this is, of course, going to make her INCREDIBLY unequipped to deal with any interpersonal conflict with Hapax, which is going to be very very very fun. and terrible.

putting all your skillpoints in one language is something i can relate tbh. i speak portuguese in my daily life but my own writing in it makes me cringe. the mere prospect of writing smut in portuguese makes me cry, and i love writing smut even when i'm not attracted to the characters involved, i just think it's fun.

anyways. i put everything i like into my jekyll. he has it all: mad scientist (obv), cult leader, religious imagery, mommy AND daddy issues, all my disorders, very queer (not like he'd admit to the later two tho), goth, lawful evil (lawful evil jekyll & chaotic neutral hyde is my favourite combination bc they're annoying in very different ways but equal amounts). my frankenstein is not much better, but she's more toned down (still a transfem girlfailure scientist with lichtenberg scars tho)(i went with female frankenstein because of tgs influence and couldn't let go of it after). griffin is there and he's jekylls ex bf/former academic rival/nuisance. sherlock and watson are minor characters and are bot beating the old married couple allegations. dorian gray is an annoying bitch who causes problems on purpose but his charisma stat is maxed so we can't complain. there's also a bunch of ocs, most of them inspired by characters from other adaptations (esp the musical (i don't fully disconsider traditional publishing so i divorced it from any media that wasn't public domain a while ago)) and a few others who are just blorbos from my brain that i try to fit into any project i'm hyperfixated at.

3. What first drew you to this character?

this is such a fun question for me because i've been asked this once or twice. i genuinely have no idea! i started playing bloodborne in like. uhm. 2022, i think? and i'd gotten far enough in the game to meet him. but i generally didn't think a whole lot about bloodborne at the time because so much else was going on in my life. i couldn't even tell you when or why my brain decided to fixate on bloodborne, much less on alfred. i just kind of woke up one day and my brain was like "yes alfred my best friend alfred!"

if i'm going to hazard a guess, i'd say it's because he's fucking crazy. i love it when a guy (or gal tbh) is covered in blood and laughing like a maniac. i am also admittedly quite fond of the voice acting. i wish all the characters in bloodborne got more screentime, but at the same time i think everyone does a great job with what they're given. the absolute snide turn in his voice when you give him the cainhurst summons is just so good.

18. Do you prefer to see this character suffer or know peace? Angst or comfort? Both?

i have a whole thing planned out of how i'll get him to interact w my oc and all but the peace lasts for... i don't know. a couple hours? maybe? the rest of it he is suffering. his natural state. even when i take him out and dust him off and put in him pathologic he is suffering. but that's bc i see him as someone who hasn't quite figured out yet that you're not meant to hinge your entire existence on a singular thing: a person, a goal, a label, an ideal. i don't know how to better explain it other than that i think he's got many things wrong with him and can't/won't look inward, but that's not something anyone else can make him do, so it doesn't particularly matter where he is. he's going to continue to suffer.

24. Do you ever dream about this character? If so, describe a dream you once had about them.

i have had dreams about artemy in the past but i cannot for the life of me remember what happened in them! my dreams typically aren't all that memorable unless they're really, really bad. i haven't had one with him in it recently, though i think the first time i had artemy show up in a dream, i was daniil.

25. What kind of fan-fiction do you read about this character? If you don’t read fan-fics about them, why not?

i went through a period where i was trying to read absolutely every pathologic fanfic. i got caught up a couple years ago, and then life caught up with me and i haven't really gotten back to the mines in that sense. now i tend to prioritize what my friends write before reading anything else... but i do like to read gen fic about artemy that focuses on him actually struggling with the outcome of the game. and i feel like this is sort of a rare thing to find. i'd be happy with reading a burakhovsky fic like this if, you know, more of them existed? because so many fics make it The Dankovsky Show. and i get that daniil is a very interesting and important character, but so is artemy! people tend to write artemy as being endlessly understanding and kind, and artemy (in patho 2 at least) is relatively quick to forgive people who have wronged him, it just doesn't sit right with me that people make him a doormat. so i do still read fics where artemy is present, but i don't... go looking for them necessarily, because it doesn't feel like a lot of people treat him very fairly. he gets a better deal than clara, granted, but not by much.

10. Do you see yourself in this character even without projecting?

hmmm... i think i probably saw myself in aspects of heather back when i was playing the game at like, 18 or 19 years old, but i think that was more with the heather we're presented in shattered memories, who is deeply hurt and grieving something she never got to have. it was something i could relate to, and the heather of silent hill 3 had something i never did, in having a loving father. i think i probably identified witht he rage she feels in the game, and the fear (since i was peak unmedicated for ocd, which itself is like being in a neverending hell) - but that was probably more of a 'heather lend me your strength' kind of way than in actually being able to see myself in her. though i did cosplay her!

48. What’s your favorite physical/design feature for this character?

i've always absolutely loved her outfit. i used to closet cosplay her all the time - my mother would never have let me bleach my hair, but i had the vest & the skirt & the boots. i actually always loved boots like that, though i don't have them anymore. i'm actually coming back around in the questions here - now that i'm older & harrier & fatter & vaguely more masculine, my cosplay lineup is looking more like travis grady (from silent hill: origins) and alfred.

Why did you pick up writing? I used to write fanfiction in my notes app at school until one of my friends recommended I post it on Wattpad. I discovered RP-ing on one of those book-comment RP things they used to have on Wattpad. I'm here because of Levi, Esmé and me discovering I wanna be a published author one day, to be honest.

Do you have any writing routines? Not really. I need my laptop (I cannot write on my phone tbh) and sometimes I'll listen to character playlists and/or grab tea, but it's not exactly ritualistic. I do tend to write in bed, though! I look through my notifications here and answer asks, comments etc. while feeding my draft stash, then jump into writing responses!

What's your favorite part about writing? The partners, the headcanons. I LOVE befriending people I write with and then jumping down the rabbit hole of getting to know their portrayal of a character and just,,, rambling. I also really enjoy rambling about dynamics between our characters, or even what my partners think of dynamics with other characters. I JUST LIKE RAMBLING—

Three things you like about your writing:

O1. Character voice. I try to change the style I write in based on character! I alter elements like vocabulary or metaphors to fit the characters and the way they perceive the world based on their lives. For example. Bianca's a forensic expert, so she tends to compare/reference a lot of forensic jargon or make really morbid statements, particularly in her thought process. Also, another example is how Es (in her AOT verse) has never seen the ocean, so I try to be conscious of not using statements/metaphors that reference the ocean because she would have no clue what that'd mean.

O2. Description (?). I'm not sure what else to call it actually, but I like that I (at least try to) paint a setting and body language between dialogue and internal thoughts without dumping them all in one place. I used to do that as a separate paragraph in the past, adding all the surroundings and things and then adding dialogue and inner thoughts, and now I re-read those and find I have much improved in that regard.

O3. That I try to emulate/experiment! I read a lot of novels, fanfiction and, of course, writing from all of you so I get a ton of inspiration and new ideas I want to try my hand at. Like, sometimes I see something described really uniquely or the flow certain writers have that's almost poetic etc. And, so I try to emulate those favourites and see how they feel in my writing. It's fun and experimental and keeps things interesting with even more mundane/routine-type replies that may pop up in threads (that's not to say the whole thread is boring, but one or two replies may pop up with nothing particularly interesting happening, if that makes sense).

Venus's question: What's the most challenging thing and character you've written, and why?

Action. And Bianca.

Action is something I really struggle with! Like, battles and spars and training sequences. I am still trying to improve in writing those and sometimes feel kind of embarrassed when I write threads like that on here instead of discord, but I try to think of it as a challenge and not get too self-conscious.

Bianca has been my most challenging OC, especially in vulnerable settings/threads. This is because she doesn't have an obvious "shell" or facade like Es and Miha do. Es views everything as fake because she's a spy; Miha's selfishness and hedonism overrule just about everything else. It's easier to write them in vulnerable situations because feeling is almost novel to them. They have to let their walls down. Bianca? She's a feeler. She's soft and gentle and caring majority of the time and feels everything very deeply and openly. So, I feel as if I really challenge myself when I write her in a vulnerable settings because, comapred to the others, she has next to no walls. I can't tell if this made any sense LOL.

Are you named after anyone?

Quil — Initially he was, yes, but when he picked his own name, Quilin, he took it from a proverb in the old version of his language. Not many know this, though, because he now thinks it's too dramatic and prefers to just be called Quil by those close to him lol

Endra — No, although a fun note about his name: it's such an old one that it's barely in use anymore and has historically been typically given to girls, so how his mother picked it is a bit of a mystery...

2. When was the last time you cried?

Quil — Uh. Uh. I think. Literally five minutes ago? He cries very rarely but he's going through something right now, so

Endra — Despite him being the one prone to crying, it's been a while... I don't know, two years maybe?? (that's gonna change soon though dw)

3. Do you have kids?

Neither do!

4. Do you use sarcasm?

Quil — Yes definitely, although only when he's around people he's comfortable with. Otherwise, he's very polite and nice :)

Endra — Also yes, but in a very playful manner :) Although it can still be taken negatively :( No one gets him

5. What's the first thing you notice about people?

Quil — Signs of their social status and/or culture, so clothing styles, how they hold themselves, their speaking mannerisms, etc. Just anything that gives away where they're from and what their standing in society is. He's never impolite, but he does adjust his behavior a bit accordingly

Endra — their emotionality? Like, what mood they seem to be in. Do they seem happy or upset or tired, helps him figure out how to best approach them (depending on what his end goals are...)

6. What's your eye colour?

Quil's is dark mint, and Endra's a very dark brown where you can barely tell where the pupil ends

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

Quil — hm considering his favorite fiction genre is fairytales that often go in fucked ways... I'd say scary movies yeah, he'd be fascinated by them (if they existed lol)

Endra — also scary movies but in a different way! He just. enjoys being scared. it's a thing don't think too much about it

8. Any special talents?

Quil — ahm he's got an affinity for languages, if that counts? There are 8 major languages in the continent, some with many dialects, some having old versions, too, and there's only 1 he's not able to speak yet due to there literally being. extremely little resources on it. It's a very remote country and not much literature leaves it x)

Endra — he can climb trees very well. In general he's pretty agile and flexible. anyways

9. Where were you born?

Quil was born in Ethelen, Merridie, and Endra in some obscure village in Edkava. This tells you practically nothing but there you go

10. What are your hobbies?

Quil — Reading with a capital R. that's what he does the majority of his time lmao nerd. he prefers nonfiction but he won't say no to an interesting fiction novel, either. he also enjoys a bit of foraging and gardening :) as well as engaging in life-threatening medical practices :) anyways

Endra — he likes to play the piano! and draw! and he's recently got an interest in cooking! in general he's a pretty artistic guy :)

11. Have you any pets?

Quil — No :( He doesn't like animals that much :((

Quil — if we're talking about his early years... does sleeping around count as sport

Quil is 169 cm (5'6 ft?? I think?), and Endra 180 cm (5'11 ft)

14. Favourite subject in school?

Quil — well, obviously he was most drawn to all subjects related to magic, but his favorite would probably be The Fundamentals of Magia, which delved more into the physicality of the element. Besides magic stuff, he also really liked Language and Literature :)

Endra — oh he hated school with a passion lol. He chronically engaged in truancy and held no love for anything that had to do with school. but if he had to choose what he tolerated the most... it'd probably be Music as it was what could actually understand? so yeah he might have kinda liked that one a little bit

15. Dream job?

Quil — a teacher :)) guy loves teaching with a passion. it's been his dream for a long while but y'know how life can go...

Endra — ahmmmm a housewife. honestly I don't think I'm kidding. god knows he could not be tied down to an Actual job, and he actually likes fussing around the house, cooking, cleaning, just making sure it's all homely and nice, and I think he would really like staying home to raise children, too. mayyyybe on the side he could do some freelance art or music stuff, but that's it lol

Hi Monday!

You can absolutely hear about my Alex, I will gladly ramble about them for almost certainly too long.

Alex Blackwood is more or less, the protagonist of Safe in the Dark, in so much as they were the original protagonist and are going to maintain that status despite the fact that there are now... five POV characters. They've come a hell of a long way since I first started writing them at the bright young age of 14, and are... somehow both more and less traumatized at the same time.

Quick little overview: mid twenties, asexual, agender, dark curly hair that is long not so much in an On Purpose Way but in an "I haven't had a haircut in Many Years" kind of way, one of the few characters whose eye color hasn't changed over the years--they're still a dark stormcloudy grey. Facial features tended to get described as birdlike when they were younger, sharp lines, prominent nose. Has a little mole on the right side of their neck and another one on the underside of their chin on that side.

Some Fun Facts:

Alex has no idea how cooking works, cannot produce more than a piece of butter toast reliably, will somehow burn things even if heat is not involved. (tbh probably a good thing they end up having to live on blood)

Has lost the majority of their southern accent as a result of being so much of the everywhere but it creeps back out the SECOND someone else near them has one. To such a strong degree that even people who know them well go ??????? what was that??????

They are indecisive to a fault, mainly because they are very afraid of making the wrong choice (whether this is the wrong choice for themself, or in relation to someone else, they spend a lot of time planning out the hypothetical consequences of things they will never actually do).

Is probably the most physically active member of the vamp!house by sheer virtue of needing the feeling of Body Moving to make their brain go quiet sometimes. Likes to run, loves sparring with Isaac and the chaos trio once that starts up. Likes the physical outlet to all the thoughts in their head.

Some Not Fun Facts:

Grew up in an extremely fundamentalist household.

Ran away at age 15 and never went back.

Suffers from sleep paralysis and really intense nightmares.

Has a lot of trouble staying present when something brings them into a memory. A smell, a sound, the look some someone's hair, they're prone to spiral into the things connected to it until their surroundings kind of, melt and they're just listening to the sound of something else, someone else, somewhen else. (oh hey the one part of my own trauma brain I gave them)

Witnessed the massacre of three dozen college students and to this day thinks it's their fault purely because their indecision meant they were still a half vampire when Eric came back, prompting him to try and force them to kill.

I love Alex so very very much.

They've been with me for... well over a decade now in some form or another which feels frankly ridiculous but it's so so amazing having gotten to evolve and learn more about them as time has gone by.

Was about to head to bed, but I needed to answer this asap. I am so happy that you asked! To be honest, writing with a deaf character is not as hard as you might think it is. The thing I have to stress though is that you have to be willing and open to changing how you write dialogue.

There have been so many times people write as if their characters understand what my characters are saying perfectly when their character is not deaf/hard of hearing. Yes, their character may know sign language, but unless that is the character's first language, they are not going to be fluent in sign language. I've had people headcanon that their character uses language to help their communication because they're autistic, but that doesn't mean they're fluent. Most hearing people that use sign language to help them communicate, unless they're mute, typically aren't fluent.

When I say to change up how you write dialogue, I mean to let your character struggle with the dialogue and communication. A lot of times when we write, we think that everything our characters say have to be perfect or make complete sense. That's bs regardless of what language you're writing. Have fun with it and let your characters mess up.

Feel free to check out this thread with @bndair (between Choden and Aang) for a great example of that back and forth of miscommunication. Of them not knowing exactly what's being said to one another. To me, it's written like any other type of language barrier between characters. Just that one happens to be deaf.

You can also check out this one with @thesleuthyone (between Keokuk and Sokka) where they use paper to communicate. A nice and simple solution to a language barrier.

Again, it's the continued aspect of your character not knowing everything, but willing to try. Along with the fact that you as the writer are not afraid to have them be confused and unknowing in those situations. That you're willing to write them messing up a sign, or slowly learning how to. Cause honestly? One wrong misplacement of your hand or a finger in sign language, or even the movement of your hand, and you're signing something completely different than what you intended. So it's just something to keep in mind when writing with a deaf character.

You also have to keep in mind that deaf people have their own culture. Just like any other language. So don't assume that you know. Don't think that you know more than a deaf/hoh person, because you don't. Most of it is about your level of understanding, and being able to accept that you don't know everything. Along with the fact that you are willing to learn.

Aside from that, writing with a deaf character is not going to be much different that writing with a hearing character. Deaf people are just like anyone else. There's just a language barrier where you can learn to sign, but they can't learn to hear. They can fight, they can read (yes some people think deaf people can't read), they can drive, etc. They only thing they can't to that hearing people can, is hear.

Lastly, heres another post I did that's somewhat about this on my other blog, and a helpful post about a point I made above. About how you can very easily sign things incorrectly.

Whenever you are writing with someone that had deaf/hoh muses, and you're not sure about something, just ask. We don't want to help you interact with our characters as much as possible. So have that open communication with your partner and you shouldn't have a problem.

Chocolate:

1. How good is your OC at comforting others? Do they feel comfortable around someone who is crying? Does it depend on the age or gender of the person in question?

I would say Nielh is very skittish when it come to comforting someone else but mainly because they are not sure what to do and what would be the best thing for the person in the moment. However they learn some basic patterns which are like: offering their shoulder, listen or make that person comfortable by moving somewhere else or giving them blanket, drink or something to hold in their hand.

And surely it does not depand on gender or age, Nielh very recently learn that is healthy to show your emotions and your pain. (Not that they are doing good job in that, but they are trying) For what they will react however is what is the personality of that person and then make action by that information.

Candy:

3. Does your OC find it easy to resist temptation? Are they always strong-willed and abstinent? Or does it depend upon the nature of the temptation in question?

Ooooh interesting. Hmm. I would not say easy, there always be something you cannot resist but it would very depand what it would be and what is the situasion and what is Nielh mental stage at the moment.

Lollipop:

5. How willing is your OC to gamble? Are they more than happy to rely upon luck? Or will they only take a chance once they have stacked the odds in their favour as far as possible?

Alright, let's take fun gamble first.

Nielh learn fun side of gambling from their other family, where it's friendly and the highest price was who is gonna do dishes for example.

But if we would take it seriously they would not gamble if they would not know all the odds and situasion in the room. They were teach to have the upper hand, be one step ahead and win at the end. So even when luck might play role they would not rely on it.

Chocolate:

3. What does your OC find comforting when they are distressed or anxious? Are they able to ask for this comfort from others? Or do they need to be alone?

He would start to play with his bracelets he have on both wrists or tug his poncho a little bit. He can ask for comfort but it very highly depand who he is asking as there is not much people he would really go to, so mainly he needs his alone time.

Candy:

1. Does your OC have any "guilty pleasures"? Are they at all secretive or embarassed about these?

Smoking :D and I would say it's not really secretive but more his doing when alone kind of thing. He doesn't really smoke often its very rare occassion for him but because of that he savour it even more.

And tbh I mean it not like cigarette but cigar yet make it very fancy dkkss

Ice Cream:

2. Does your OC take themselves particularly seriously? Are there times when they can take themselves lightly, but others when they demand respect? Do those around them ever view them as excessively dour and serious? Or even inordinately flippant and frivolous?

As a Chief's son he does take himself very seriously but he is as well just a man who have his own life/family so he cannot be serious all the time. I would say others in a clan view him with respect and not only because of his family but because of him alone. He gain their respect rightfully by his actions but he is not abusing it. So I would say some people might call him too serious, perhaps distant 🤔

3.Does your OC have a good sense of humour? What kind of jokes do they find funny? Do they have a favourite joke themselves?

Oh dear, no I would say he have 'bad' humour and lot of jokes takes him time to get. He surely have few cannibals jokes in his sleeves and some librarian ones as well. Sadly do not have any fav in mind :DD or well his future boyfriend's jokes are his humour
