i'm as upset as any 10+ year old tumblr user to see the degradation of ask culture. since i've been making my own games, i get people in my notes reblogging one game regularly—weekly, daily, sometimes multiple time a day—desperate for interaction that their followers simply won't give them, even as those same followers reblog the game from them. it's awful to see people crying out for connection only to be ignored by people who can obviously hear them. it makes me sad!!! and it's frustrating!!!
but at a certain point, we have to accept that yelling about how things were 10 years ago isn't going to change people's behavior. a vast majority of tumblr users simply do not send asks, don't intend to, and will reblog ask games without sending any questions no matter how much we insist it's impolite. it's time for a new approach—so to that end:
for everyone reading this, i give you permission and highly encourage you to copy and paste my ask games (any ask game tbh) into a blank document, fill out every single question for the OCs or WIPs of your choice, and post it. without getting a single ask from anyone, share it anyway. one question at a time, everything in one giant text post, whatever. there's a good chance people who are too shy to send asks will appreciate getting to learn about your characters and stories, and maybe even encourage them to ask you for more details. and even if they don't, maybe you'll build the confidence to post whatever you want about your characters, whenever you want.
be free.

Simple OC Ask Game
Thanks for the tag, @willtheweaver!
I’ll answer for Am’asy and Arroti both (MC and personal favorite). If you’d like to see this for other characters, don’t hesitate to ask!
1. What is something your OC would never purchase for themselves, but would (secretly?)be delighted to receive as a gift?
Am’asy: A nice dress that she can wear without worrying about it getting ruined.
Arroti: New clothes in general.
2. Is your OC ticklish? Has anyone ever dared to find out?
Am’asy: Yes, and Kys’so takes advantage of it often.
Arroti: Yes, but He would never allow anyone to find out.
3. How easy does your OC find it to apologize?
Am’asy: Not easy. She tends to find it difficult to admit she could be wrong.
Arroti: Easy—but only if He believes He actually was in the wrong.
4. When did your OC first see a dead body? If they have not seen one yet, how might they react to doing so?
Am’asy: When she was a young child, and it was fairly traumatic for her as it had been her grandfather.
Arroti: Unknown. He responds with utter neutrality, unless it was someone He was fond of.
5. Does your OC have any recurring dreams? Have they told anyone else about them?
Am’asy: Usually nightmares of being hunted by a leopard through her family’s grain fields. She would only admit something so silly to Kys’so.
Arroti: It is unknown if He dreams.
6. Is your OC stingy with their money (or other resources)? Or are they something of a spendthrift?
Am’asy: A certain level of frugality can be expected of her, living off a soldier’s allowance, but when she does have extra money she likes to splurge on snacks.
Arroti: He only takes as much as He needs of anything, but will not hesitate to share with others. So not stingy so much as… focused on subsistence.
7. Does your OC have a sweet tooth? Or do they prefer to avoid sweets and sugary treats?
Am’asy: A small one. She likes carb-heavy foods.
Arroti: Not particularly. He prefers salty or umami flavors.
8. Is your OC easily provoked by insults or mockery?
Am’asy: Yes. She has some pride and gets irritated easily.
Arroti: No. He is, however, provoked by threats of aggression, no matter how unlikely it is they would do any harm to Him.
9. Where is somewhere your OC has visited that they would not want to visit again?
Am’asy: Ny’zasaji, the jungle queendom under Yetova’s control. She would claim it worse than Deri if you asked.
Arroti: If He could avoid the Furajyan imperial palace, He would. He doesn’t fit well in it.
10. Is your OC somewhat flirtatious?
Am’asy: Not knowingly.
Arroti: When He wants to be.

for ask game :) 💕🌙🔦🪦
*sigh* I didn't expect you (or anyone really) to ask that soon. I wanted to sleep T^T
Anyway! :D
💕 - What's an out-of-context line you're proud of?
"Removing chains is always harder than preventing them from being placed." - From Frequency: Wounded Reflection
🌙 - When Dusk has downtime, what does he most look forward to? What do they miss most when their situation doesn't allow for it?
I chose to do Dusk for this one, mostly because of his evolving perspective over the course of Forsaken.
At the beginning, he obviously looks towards regaining his memories. But, for a good majority of the story after he does regain them, he mostly looks forward to taking down the Everden family, and making them pay for the torture they caused him and future they robbed him of.
Even later, after an event I won't spoil here but have written about elsewhere, he mostly looks forward to being able to die, free of regrets and obligations.
However, throughout the entire story, the one thing he misses (if it is not with him) is the company of Zenith. Whenever they are separated, or when Dusk can no longer go back to him, it is the only thing Dusk longs for.
🔦 - What's something Akita is afraid to acknowledge?
I don't talk too much about Akita, the protagonist of Hellfire, but his answer to this is... interesting.
Deep down, though he doesn't admit it in the story (though it would be obvious through his actions and words), he's afraid of being alone- or rather, he doesn't want to admit that he needs people.
He was more or less alone from a young child to 18 years of age. Only during the story does he find people that he can rely on, but that also rely on him. And it's something he doesn't want to confront nor admit.
🪦 - Do you have any cut lines to share?
:)
I have a few :)
I'll share a brief interaction between Jesse and a sheriff from 534 ft. It technically isn't cut, but due to some restructuring and overhauling I'm doing, it will be either cut or heavily modified:
- - - - - -
When Jesse exited the stable, the man from before was still standing outside. He held his lantern outstretched, shining its light into Jesse’s eyes. His other hand held his revolver, which was now aimed at Jesse.
“You seem better,” he remarked, “good enough to talk, I'd reason. So start talking. What’s your name, and are you even human?”
Jesse’s heart dropped at the sight of the man’s barrel pointed between his eyes. So, he chose every word carefully.
“...My name is Jesse Graves, sir, and yes, I am human.”
The man’s expression shifted, but it was hard to see past the lantern’s light.
“Really now? Then was all that back there? How come you came into town looking like you were standing halfway in your own grave, but now you’re suddenly all better?”
“I spent a lot of energy making my way here, came from Bitterbranch. Sorry for any confusion or concern, I don’t usually like to present myself that tired.”
“Then how come you knew that word, huh? Don’t think I didn’t hear you whisper something in the stables. Spill it boy, what’s up with you?”
Jesse stayed silent for a moment as a few memories came back to him like accursed nightmares.
“...I don’t want to tell you,” he said with a shaky voice, “but I ain’t a threat to you or anyone here. That’s the truth. Just let me rest for a few nights and I’ll be gone just as quick as I came.”
For what felt like an eternity, the man continued to stare at Jesse with an unreadable expression.
Eventually, the man lowered his lantern and sighed.
“...Well, you ain’t a liar son, your soul says as much. Go get some rest for goodness sake, do you have enough for a room?”
- - - - - - -
That's all those questions answered! Thanks for the questions by the way! :D
If anyone (including you @the-letterbox-archives *narrows eyes*) wants to ask me anything relating this ask game, go ahead! Feel free to ask repeat questions, it'll let me give different answers! :3
(Tag list for writing: @illarian-rambling, @casualsuitturtle, @tildeathiwillwrite, @thecomfywriter, @the-letterbox-archives, @leahnardo-da-veggie. Message me, or comment/reblog this saying you want to be on/off of the tag list)

Your mystery question is here! :)
Butterfly: What's the biggest change your OC has faced in their life?
Hi, thanks for the ask. Apologies that it's taken so long to get around to answering it.
Again, answering for Selene and Meredith as I actually need to think about how I'm going to answer this question for them. Also, placing the answer under a cut to save peoples' dashes
Selene
Quite honestly, I think the biggest change in Selene's life came when she was asked to take up the position of Grand Magus once the Triumverate was settled on as the main governing head of the Toreguarde Council. Up to that point Selene had spent her time rebuilding Toreguarde from the ground up, paying particular attention to rebuilding the library she'd originally inherited from Yastromo. So to suddenly go from working on a passion project that didn't involve too much social interaction, to having to figure out how to be a political leader of a whole damn city was a bit of a shock to the system. Needless to say, Selene wasn't entirely qualified for the role, but she was the only person available that could fill the position. This huge a change in priority obviously had a massive impact on Selene's character development from that moment on, and not all the changes were for the better. Her stepping down from the Grand Magus office at the end of the Destiny's New Servants story was more of a return to form for her and made her life a lot easier and happier.
Meredith
The biggest change in Meredith's life was leaving Fangthane to travel to Toreguarde and meeting the person that would shape the rest of her life from that moment on. Meredith's life up until that point had been fairly sheltered, all things considered, and while she was not entirely naïve to the cruelty of the world, getting thrown into saving a bunch of people from a large group of ghouls and a vampire spawn her first night in Toreguarde, was certainly a wakeup call. I am also not joking when I say that meeting Elowyn that night was the most significant thing that could ever have happened to Meredith. These two women eventually became the last survivors of the group that started their whole adventure, and the relationship that developed because of that forever changed the course of Meredith's life, even long after Elowyn passed (damn the massive discrepancy in life expectancy 😭).

Happy STS! Asking with a cup of tangerine tea in my lap, what are your characters drink of choice?
Happy STS!
In the untitled fantasy WIP, I think people look at Zaya and assume she really likes some sort of beer or liquor, but she's mostly the type who drinks water (which is, widely speaking, safe to drink all over that world). One of her absolute favorites, though, is a mint and watermelon green tea served ice cold (thanks to Djaetyli magic that is currently fading away from the world. I don't know if it'll ever occur to her as a reason to help save the region, but it'll be a nice bonus).
Both Aleksani and Miyarki love a particular drink made from simmering spices and fresh fruits. I can't remember what I called it off the top of my head, but they both use slightly different fruits and spices, and Aleksani prefers it chilled and Miyarki prefers it warm, so they both would think the other's is wrong.
Nideszda grew up somethings drinking a calming tisane that Teysing would make for her when she didn't feel well or was having trouble sleeping. It'll always be her favorite.
Tsinte has traveled a lot of the world and will take whatever's on offer, but she's had coffee and assorted types of chocolate drinks and they're particular favorites.
In Bad Fences, Tish is a Dr. Pepper girlie all the way through.
Ollie likes a cold beer or sometimes a hard cider.
Blue is a little embarrassed that he sticks mostly to Mt. Dew.
Eden brews her own komboucha, and some people in the family partake, but she mostly drinks it herself.
Kore used to survive off of coffee and energy drinks, but has had to cut back and is still figuring out what to have instead. She still drinks more coffee than is advisable.
Wistie and Robin are both tea drinkers, though Wistie usually takes it iced and likes green or black with fruit flavors, and Robin likes hot herbal teas.
As for the kids: Trystin likes Coke when he can get it, Melinoe is going through an orange juice think (provided there's no pulp), and Sprout is a literal infant with few choices.
Barbara also drinks a lot of Dr. Pepper and would be horrified to find she has anything in common with Tish.
Maggs is a high anxiety person who should not survive on coffee, but don't come between her and her coffee.

Happy STS! How has writing been going for you so far in 2025? 💜
Hi! Happy STS!
2025 is off to a pretty good start! @sunset-a-story and I are still chipping away at Sunset Vol 3, and I've been brainstorming about possible places we could go if we push forward into Vol 4. I spent a lot of 2024 focused on editing Vol 2, but I've been taking a break from that to draft some scenes for the end of Vol 3, which has been a lot of fun and a nice change of pace. A couple of new characters have popped up and I even took on an action scene, which historically, is more Vee's wheelhouse than mine. So far, all in all, 2025 has been a nice way to stretch some of my comfort zone and make more progress. Thank you for asking!

hi ann!
what's your best advice for writing a poetry collection?
hii, thank you so much for the ask!
how you write a book is subjective to your process and goals, but here are a few things that really helped me while drafting stray ghosts:
allow yourself to be honest. i was super insecure of my poetry, and then i decided not to worry about that when i'm writing. my first draft was always more like a journal entry. if yours is, too, that's not bad at all. in a way, i think it's the perfect thing!
find your zone. poetry, for me, is like an act of prayer. it could be different for you. find out what it means to you, and create the right environment in which you can write poetry.
don't worry too much about "good poetry". writers who write prose and poetry are always confused about whether their poems are any good or if they even classify as poems. let the feeling come when it does, stay for as long as it needs, and go when it goes. don't obsess over it.
read other collections. while you're reading poems on the internet (litmags, social media, etc.), try to get your hands on poetry collections and read them. this will help you find out what you want your collection to be like.
focus on your tone. this is usually a writer-specific thing, but a consistent tone makes a really great poetry collection. this can be through the kind of words used, the stories told and emotions explored, the imagery used, etc.
take your time. i wrote stray ghosts in a year. some people write collections in over five years. some people collect poems they've written through their youth, about 10-15 years, and publish them together. there's no rush. there's no right timeframe.
be flexible. a lot of things will change as you go. your plans could go south, something better might come up, or you might fall into a slump. you might even feel like you never want to write anything anymore. they're all part of the process. it's all part of the process, and it'll all pass.
allow yourself rest. poetry is a deeply personal process. if it gets too much at times, it's always best to take a step out of it, relax, and come back when you feel truly ready.
find a friend. it is awesome to have friends who can read your poems for you, hype you up, and suggest edits if you want them to. i found my clan here on tumblr. if you find your people, it'll get a lot easier to keep going.
take it one poem at a time. while you have a collection planned, don't worry too much about it as a whole. dedicate yourself fully to the poem you're writing right now. once that's done, move on to the next. one by one, they will come together. you can always edit and put the collection together in the end.
i hope this will help. and of course, like always, all writing tips are subjective, and what works best for you works best for you. here are some other things that helped me, and could help you: titling my collection in the beginning, deciding on the number of poems (this changed in the end), creating mood boards, and submitting individual poems to litmags once they were polished and ready to go!
again, thank you so much for the ask! sending the bestest wishes for your collection!

Do any of the swords in your wip have a symbolic meaning or are they of importance to the storyline?
Culturally, many warrior/soldier families pass down swords. As far as the gods’ and angels’ weapons go, a number of them have interesting lore in the future, but have no severe significance to the storyline thus far. The only one with long-standing significance is Khet’s dagger.
Some weapons are symbolic, however, like Arroti’s ax being symbolic of His practical but also very dangerous nature. I like to try to match weapons to personalities—Jalur’s is rather garish and well-decorated, because he is a maximalist and loves to collect trinkets. San’ary’s is simpler, understated, because he doesn’t like to stand out in a crowd. Things like that.
In the future I may try to develop it more, though, because I love weapons dearly as a form of symbolism.

if peter and benji were in a coffee shop au who would be the barista and who would be the customer (and what would they order?)
Hi Sav! 👋 Thanks for stopping by! 🫖✨
My heart tells me that Benji would be the barista, and Peter would be the customer that makes you want to rip your hair out by asking way too many questions. The interaction would go something like this:
Benji: How can I help you?
Peter: (sarcastically) Oh well, good morning sunshine. You don’t sound too chipper; Need a drink yourself?
Benji: (through a forced smile) ….I’m fine. THANKS.
Peter: Really? Well, you sound absolutely livid.
Benji: Are you gonna order anything, or not?
Peter: Hold on, hold on. I’m thinking. Mmmmm….Hmmmm…..
Benji:…..perhaps today?
Peter: Do you have any specials going on right now?
Benji: Oh my g— Okay, SO: we have a holiday drink right (taps sign impatiently) here. Would you like to try one, sir?
Peter: Does it have any dairy? I’d much rather prefer it not.
Benji: We can serve you one without dairy, if you’d like.
Peter: That would be lovely. I’ll take fifteen.
Benji: (freezing his finger on the register) F-fifteen?
Peter: Aye. It’s for my crew and I. We have a big meeting this morning so ah….can you make it snappy? I gotta leave in about a half hour. Oh and…keep the change, darling~

🥧 pie for the fall oc asks :D
Thank you for the ask! ^_^
🥧 pie: let’s talk about food in your wip. are there any special recipes or traditional meals? do any of your OCs cook or bake?
Right now I'm working mostly on Riptide, which is my pre-Veilguard Solavellan fic. It focuses around my Lavellan, Sene, and her relationships between Trespasser and Veilguard: Abelas and Ameridan, and how, no matter what, everything always leads her back to Solas.
I don't think I focus much on food in this wip, or in my writing in general, but as with nearly everything I write, there's a lot of alcohol. Alcohol is this thing that my characters use to both celebrate and cope. Sene, who was raised by a family of vintners and liquor distillers, likes champagne and rose. Solas drinks whiskey, and in the new chapter that will come out today, we'll see Sene and Sera drinking whiskey at a bar in Antiva City, a habit that they, themselves, picked up from Solas during their days in the Inquisition. Abelas drinks beer, as he used to be a farmer before he was a Sentinel, and so the earthy feel of beer is on theme. Sene drinks gin and ginger when she's with Ameridan, as this drink indicates a medicinal function, and she drinks whiskey teas in winter. Sene doesn't really get drunk, but she likes alcohol for its ritual factors, because it is a part of her upbringing.
Another thing I use a lot of in my Dragon Age writing is elfroot, which functions as something sort of between cigarettes and marijuana. Abelas, who grew up on an elfroot farm outside of Arlathan, grows and treats his own elfroot. He smokes it frequently, because the lights and colors of the new world are still very bright and stressful for him, and the drug takes the edge off. Ameridan smokes constantly, for similar reasons. Solas used to, though now he is worried about losing control, and he favors liquor instead as his coping mechanism. In my Dragon Age universe, I am always trying to explore the effects that essential "time travel" would have on these ancient elves, like a cosmic jet lag, and the reality of how they might abuse substances, even if only lightly or in a high functioning manner, to cope with it.
