I think my Christmas event is going to be canceled. Or at least postponed. I really qas chugging along and keeping up with it for a while, but December has not been kind to me and I think it's best if I just take my blog off my plate for now. It’d been a while since I’d gone out or seen most of my friends. Three months in fact. I had spent the whole summer avoiding JJ Maybank like the plague after he very publicly broke my heart. My best friend Kiara had been very understanding. She would come over to spend the night and we’d listening to music while we smoked up. She never mentioned JJ even though I knew when she wasn’t checking on me she was with the rest of the Pogues. I was grateful for that. Which is why when she spent a week begging me to go to an end of summer party I’d caved.

“Come on! It’ll been fine, it’s a kook party, there’s no way he’ll show up.” She had said.

Turns out she’d been wrong, so wrong.

Pope had decided to tag along at the last minute saying he didn’t want us girls going into the lions den alone and besides in avoiding JJ I’d also been avoiding him and John B. The three of us were sitting in a crowded kitchen, tipsy from the last game of beer pong when suddenly we saw John B walk in. I watched as his eyes briefly scan the room before landing on me and he starts making his way over to us.

“Hey. Long time no see.” He says giving me a soft small smile I don’t return.

“What do you want JB?” I didn’t try to keep the suspicion out of my voice as I looked around the room. If John B was here JJ couldn’t be far behind.

“Not me. JJ. He needs you.” He says matter of factly and I let out a sigh.

“Tell me something I don’t know.”

“He’s a wreck without you, ya know. I’ve never seen him like this. He’s shitfaced all the time -“

“That’s not new!” I yell cutting him off. People are starting to glance our way but I don’t care.

“John B just leave her alone! I brought her here to have a good time! And you’re ruining it!” Kie snaps and puts her arm around my shoulder. “I am so sorry.” She adds.

“Come on just come back to the Château with us. Please.” John B pleads, ignoring her.

“No. I’m not going anywhere. Kie’s right. I deserve to have a good time.” I cross my arms over my chest, mirroring John B leaning against the kitchen counter.

“It’s always gotta be the hard way with you.” He rolls he’s eyes. “Look if you don’t walk out with me, he’s just going to come in here himself to try and convince you. Now you may be able to say no to me, but we both know you won’t say no to him. You can’t.”

I stand up and close the distance between us. He’s not usually like this, he seems stressed, almost weary. That’s how I know his attitude isn’t really directed towards me. For a moment we’re both standing there, arms folded, giving each other hard looks. I vaguely hear Pope in the background wondering if he and Kie should intervene, but then I throw my arms around John B’s neck in a hug. Instantly his arms wrap around my waist and squeeze. We stay like that for a long beat because we’d missed each other. He was my friend too, and I needed him to know that. That the problem wasn’t between me and him it was between me and JJ. I go up on my tip toes and press a light kiss to his cheek before pulling back forcing him to let me go.

“You should leave. It was good seeing you though.” I say.

He hesitates then nods before starting for the doorway. He’s half way across the kitchen when JJ comes stumbling in.

For a moment my heart stops, he’s as devastatingly gorgeous as ever, but he doesn’t look like my JJ. My JJ with his flirtatious smirk and big blue puppy dog eyes and his easy going life of the party demeanor. The JJ pushing past John B is so not smiling. He has dark circles under his eyes like he hasn’t been sleeping, and as he gets closer I notice how icy cold his blue eyes are tonight, the way they get when he’s been crying or is about to. His blonde hair is messier than usual, over due for a cut. I can smell the booze coming off him before he reaches me.

“God you have got to be kidding me. You’re hammered!” I chide.

“Baby. I jus…I wanna…I needa talk to you.” he slurs out as he reaches me, grabbing for my waist but I push him back. And all the anger and all the hurt I’ve been holding onto these last few months just comes bubbling out of me. I smack him, hard, then push him again. He brings his hands up to block his face as he stumbles back. I manage to get another push in but this time when the palms of my hands meet the hard muscles of his chest he’s found his footing and doesn’t move. It catches me off guard and JJ takes the opportunity to grab both my hands, then suddenly he’s moving me backwards.

My back meets the wall behind me, not hard but solidly enough to make me gasp in surprise. He pins me there, both my wrists trapped in one of his large hands above my head, his other hand firmly on the wall beside me.

“I deserve that. I’m so sorry baby” his voice is a whisper and before I can blink he kisses me. It’s a soft kiss, like he expects me to fight it. I don’t. I just kiss him back. After a moment he pulls away just a bit and looks at me. His eyes searching mine for answers. “Please baby. Baby please!” It comes out a strangled plea as his voice cracks.

“JJ I’m not -“ I start but he’s not trying to hear that. This time he crashes his lips to mine. He leans his body against mine pressing me more securely into the wall. He’s still pinning my wrists but his free hand leaves the wall and finds purchase on my hip. My body just naturally melts into his. This kiss is anything but soft. It’s all tongue and teeth. It’s needy, almost hungry. He tastes like Jägermeister and Marlboro Reds and for the moment I don’t mind at all. This time when he pulls away for air I find myself going up on my tip toes, my lips chasing his. That earns me a smile and it’s that beautiful smile that snaps me right out of it.

“JJ.” I watch his face fall at my tone. He doesn’t say a word but he lets me go and takes a step back. “JJ there’s nothing left to say okay? We’re not getting back together. You…JJ you broke my heart. How am I supposed to trust you won’t do it again? I can’t hurt like that again! I just can’t!” I say and realize that my voice sounds shaken even to me.

Maybe that’s the reason he doesn’t try and talk me out of it like I want so bad for him to do. He just nods and I see tears slowly start to spill out of those gorgeous blue eyes. My chest tightens at the sight of it. Where was this the whole time?

He turns and heads for the door. John B jumps up and heads out behind him. I hear Pope ask Kie if we need a ride home.

“Go, we’ll walk to my place it’s not far. I got her.” She’s suddenly hugging me and I collapse into tears in her arms as Pope goes after them.

hey folks i dunno how many of you are invested in knowing this but i think im gonna take a brief hiatus from social media to kinda reconnect w the outside world. ive fallen into some unhealthy habits online and i feel that's it's best for me to step away for a bit for my own well-being. i don't know how long it'll be for, probably a few days to a week, but i can promise I'll be back when im done. thanks for understanding 👍👍
