ᒥ🎸ᒧ—       The morning news had not been kind to him, plastering his smug, drugged-out mug shot over every news site available. It truly wasn't a flattering picture; glassy, blood shot eyes, a crooked smirk, his hair all wild from a tussle, it told a whole story. 'Edward Teach of Blackbeard's Crew arrested' everywhere had as a headline. But only one person he knew got a call about it that morning, Israel Hands. He didn't want to call Izzy, he didn't want to hear the spiel he'd heard many times before. Yet, the call is made. Izzy is the only friend he's got to help him out, so he left with no other choice.

"Hey, Iz, I...Uh, well I'm at the County Jail with Jack. I need picked up." He said on the phone. Jack, an old bandmate of Ed's youth, and like in Ed's youth he was the source of the trouble that Ed had gotten himself into that night. He doesn't answer any questions, instead he hangs up with a, "Just be here, please."

He stands outside of the jail, and he looks beat. His hair is a wild, tangled mess, there's bags under his tired, hungover eyes, and his clothes are ripped and torn from when he was taken down by the arresting officers. Edward sees Izzy's car approaching and he walks over, limping some and favoring his aggravated, injured knee.

Edward opens the passenger side door, and begins to get in with a small, "Hey, man." No 'thank you for getting me' or 'sorry I may have just ruined my career', only a 'hey' like it was any other day.

what's hylics even about??

Good question lol

Okay it’s a common misconception that the Hylics games are all visuals and no story, but that just isn’t true. Both games tell an ultimately simple story that becomes complex and convoluted due to the alien world that it is being told in

The world of Hylics is one that is both fantastical and unnerving. Composed entirely of clay, it is a realm of vast oceans with only small clusters of islands serving as the terrestrial home to many species of strange, sentient organisms that we call the hylics. Cities are as scarce as small settlements, but civilization carries on regardless. Couches, bathtubs, televisions, and paper cups are rare commodities that can physically enrich the bodies of these organisms, and the easiest way to bring health or harm to another is through making gestures with one’s hands

Death and life are also one in the same for hylics. If one were to be brutally murdered, their flesh would melt off their bones into a puddle which seeps down into the subterranean lair that is the Afterlife, where they can then recover their flesh and will to journey back to the surface world again (save for any meat that got left behind on the surface to be collected and ground-up into more power for their victorious opponents). While the Afterlife is a haven bound to the physical world, it can still be exploited just as easily as anything on the surface of their planet

Now for the actual story of the games!

In Hylics 1, the hylics of the planet have almost all been reduced speaking poetic nonsense thanks to the influence of Gibby, the King of the Moon. Wayne, a crescent-headed hylic, decides to take matters into his own hands and leaves the listless solitude of his home to defeat Gibby once and for all. Along way they recruit some of the last sane hylics left in their archipelago: Dedusmuln the archeologist, Somsnosa who can convert insects into power, and Pongorma the last of Yiithorn’s dread knights. Together, the four misfits make it to the moon and kill Gibby, but not before the evil tyrant rigs the moon to explode as he dies...

Hylics 2 takes place in a slightly more coherent world and is all about former minions of Gibby finding a single gibblet that contains his essence and planning to revive him. Wayne is revealed to have been a member of a species that look identical to him that are lead by an elder entity called Old Wayne (it is often debated if this Wayne is the one from H1 or not, but I personally believe he is not). There is more lore to the past of this world shown to the player, but rarely explained outright. I won’t explain the rest of the plot because I feel for this game it’s more satisfying to experience on one’s own

Ultimately, both games are about how prog rock and noise rock are the best genres of music ever created and that rotating claymation food looks amazing 🌙🎸🌯

mimi was born to a young couple in seoul, but only a few years after his birth his father was killed in a car accident and his mother turned to the guidance & comfort of the new pastor at her church. within a year she’d gotten married to the pastor, and quit her job to be a stay at home mother (as her new husband thought was more ‘appropriate’). his stepfather very quickly became the unquestioned head of the household and shaped the family to his liking. mimi tried to be a good, obedient child, but his stepfather hated his questioning nature, his curiosity and soon forbade him from asking ‘why’. when he was six, his little sister was born, and he found he loved being a big brother, even if he was constantly reminded that he was a ‘bad influence’, no matter how hard he tried not to be. the rest of his childhood and adolescence went pretty much the same—he tried to win his parents approval, but could never seem to do anything right, so eventually just stopped trying. 

as time went on, and other influences in his life grew stronger than his parents, he realised he didn’t agree with most of the things his stepfather (and subsequently, his mother) believed. his stepfather had never managed to cage in his thoughts, and so mimi began to explore interests that he knew his parents wouldn’t approve of. he’d always been a lover of music, but in high school he found rock music and dove headfirst into it. a new sense of style soon followed and this was where mimi’s true problems arose. his parents didn’t like his scruffy attire or dark clothing—’is that barbed wire on your shirt?’—and weren’t afraid to voice their opinions. he managed to placate them for a few years, minimising himself and his interests when he was at home. 

everything came to a head during early to mid 2022; mimi had grown his hair out and dyed it. at this point, his parents came to the conclusion that he must be possessed, and after a failed attempted exorcism (which mimi merely found comical), he was ungracefully disowned and kicked out of the family home. his life pretty much fell apart after this, as he no longer had funding for unviersity, no home, and because he’d become homeless, his long-term girlfriend (who he’d thought he was going to marry) broke up with him. for a while he was homeless, going between park benches, bathhouses and friend’s couches until his bandmate ( @jindallaebe ) offered for mimi to stay with him. he’s been there ever since, but due to how suddenly he was kicked out before, he’s unsure about calling it ‘home’ quite yet. 

⸻ UNDER THE SKIN

🎸 mimi’s always been very... anti-authority-figures. he has never liked rules or being told what to do, unless he can see a good reason for the rule existing. he’s a very self-led person, and is pretty impossible to influence. he’s so chronically individual that if everyone was doing something, and he’d end up entirely alone forever if he didn’t, he’d still stick to his own decisions and opinions, even if that didn’t align with what everyone else was doing. however, he’s not judgemental about people having differing opinions or tastes in things, unless those opinions are bigoted—then he’s not afraid to speak his mind. he’s the kind of person who won’t hold back from ripping someone a new one, even if that person is a good friend of someone he cares about. if they’re being a stupid a**hole, he’s going to say so, and if his friend doesn’t see it, he’s happy to cut them off too. 

🎸 mimi has undiagnosed borderline personality disorder. while he showed minor signs in his youth, it wasn’t until he became homeless that the symptoms became very noticeable. he’s very sensitive to perceived ‘abandonment’, even when, after calming down a bit, he logically knows that, for example, someone choosing to spend the evening with someone else, instead of him, isn’t him being abandoned, it still, in the moment, feels that way. his emotions can change very quickly, and he can have pretty ‘black-and-white’ thinking about people; one day he can view someone as nothing but good and nice, the next as an entirely horrible, irredeemably bad person. he can lash out, say things he doesn’t mean, and sometimes throw things when he feels ‘in danger’ of being cast-aside/rejected/replaced/forgotten. he’s also very private—he believes that no one could really understand how he feels, and that he’s broken in some way, so there’s no point in explaining his emotions/feelings/problems to people, because they will unfairly judge him. he often feels ‘raw’ emotionally, as if everything affects him 100x more than it affects everyone else.

🎸 he’s an incredibly passionate, loving, and creative person. he loves very intensely (sometimes too intensely), and sometimes views this as a weakness. this love can be for people or things, like hobbies. he’s always had a very deep love for video games, music, and art, and loves no one in the world more than his sister. he’s always loved writing music/lyrics, doodling and drawing little cartoons, and escaping the real world through video games. he doesn’t readily share the things he creates with people, however, as he feels very vulnerable due to how much of himself he puts into them—criticism can seem, to him, like a direct criticism of who he is. he does love to play games with people, though, and considers this one of his main forms of bonding with people, as well as bonding through music.

Hey, hello again guitar anon! I’m sorry that that’s being so stressful. Even though I’m cool with sharing my f/os with other selfshippers, I know I still get upset when they have partners in canon too, so hopefully I can be of some help.

First of all, it goes without saying that you’re completely allowed to write the partner out in whatever scenario you’re daydreaming about in your head. When I had an f/o (let’s call him Simon) who eventually fell in love with someone else in canon (let’s call her Amy), I found that I couldn’t handle her being around in my scenarios, even as just a plot point. So I tweaked a few things, rearranged a few plot points, and she was never even there at all.

Second, and this may not be the mindset that works for everyone, but to me my F/Os are like my own little copy of the canon character that exists in my head. When I would get jealous, I’d remember that the Simon that’s my F/O wasn’t the same as the Simon I saw on screen in love with Amy, although he was based on him. He’s *my* version of Simon, he’d never even met Amy, and he was literally made in my head to love me. I don’t know if the subtleties of this are making sense, but yeah — I think of the F/O in my head as a clone of sorts, not as the exact same “person” as the character in canon.

Lastly, I just didn’t interact much with the parts of canon that involved my F/O’s partner. I was lucky there, because they didn’t acknowledge their feelings until the show was winding down, and it wasn’t a large part of the plot. I just kinda tuned out those parts — which you’re allowed to do when a show upsets you! Feel free to just interact with the parts of canon that bring you comfort, and to not interact with the parts that don’t.

Above everything, I’d say it’s important to remember that F/O relationships are fictional, and *you’re* the one creating them, so literally whatever you think about them is the truth! You’re in complete control of your fictional relationships, you’re their author in a way. Don’t be afraid to remind yourself of that!
