🦌 Bane rubs his chin, tracing his memory. "Hm... Indeed, I'm familiar with that name. I'd suppose that's someone I knew when I worked for the DeRosses." He crosses his arms with a low, contemplative grunt, as if struggling to remember anything else. "I'd need a photograph." I happen to have a couple on hand, and he takes them gently. A long period of silence follows. After leafing through the photos for some time, he says: "I remember. They were always talking about marriage." With you? "Mm. I was never interested, but I never said no. Eventually I made them a ring from a scrap of iron. I hoped they'd stop visiting me if I satisfied them... It's too dangerous to come to the forest everyday." Then he reaches into his pocket, pulling out a ring of his own. "In exchange, they gave one back." He's been cherishing it all this time, even when he'd forgotten its origin.

🪼 Ivy - "I'm no stranger to feeling like I'm missing my other half, you know. That sense of loss is one of the only constants I have left. (Y/N) fills my emptiness, and without them it increases twofold." I open my mouth to ask, Do you think you could be soulmates? but then my eyes dart to the Yithian and I realize my mistake. Sorry, was that insensitive? Ivy is not amused with my implication that she might be interested in claiming (Y/N)'s soul. "My dear interviewer, I am a scholar, not a monster. Whatever you're insinuating, you're gravely mistaken."

🤡 Joker's face suddenly hardens, in spite of the fragile, twiddling-thumbs demeanor he'd shown me thus far. His hands ball into shaking fists and his lips purse, as if he's psyching himself up for a fight. Are you okay? I ask, preemptively guarding myself with my clipboard. Tears brim his eyes and the strength falls from his shoulders. He mutters out, "All I wanted was to be their sword and shield, their angel of light, and they left me out of my mind. Hahaha... Wanna know the biggest joke of all? I'd let them drive me crazy all over again."

🦎 Luchino's mouth stretches into a lazy grin. "That one's a cutie, eh? Had the pleasure of meeting them yet?" I shake my head, reminding him that (Y/N) is the focus of my current investigation. I guess his laidback attitude fooled me into saying too much. He promptly straightens his back, the smile fading. "Yeah... Yeah, from one researcher to another, I get the intrigue," he says. "But I can't say I fancy another guy using my love as a test subject."

🪞 Mary - "Do you take pleasure in nosing around a lady's private affairs? I'd expect more tact, even for an interviewer." The chill in her tone startles me. I sputter out something in my defense, but Mary huffs and waves me into silence. "(Y/N) is enjoying the privilege of being my right-hand. They're my favorite one so far, too. I dismissed the others without a second thought."

🤕 Naib - "On good terms." Wringing out any insightful answers from this man is tougher than I thought. In hopes of inspiring more of a reaction, I tell a small lie: When I interviewed (Y/N), they described a rather colorful affection for you... Almost immediately, Naib breaks eye contact and crosses his arms. But I still only get a guttural "Hm." in response. Can you confirm if this is true? I press. His answer is, once again, a curt "Hm." (Slightly more affirmative, I would say).

🕯️ Philippe - "My work has always stood as a testament to my love," he caresses the wax figure grafted onto his shoulder, "but shielding someone in life is a far greater challenge than honoring my losses. My worries are endless." Suddenly reminded of his sister's tragedy, I offer a sympathetic smile. Do you believe (Y/N) is in danger? Philippe returns my smile, though I can't make out the intent. "Of course. Evil lurks around every corner. At the very least, it won't reach them while I'm around."

🎭 Sangria - A fond smile graces her face as she recounts her memory. "It was clear to me after some time that I had disastrously entranced them." Then she adds, lightly, "I hadn't meant to, of course. At the time, I thought, I'm not looking for love—no, I'd had enough of it all—but soon, their smile would appear in my mind every time I sang. When someone gives you that much inspiration? You'd be a fool to let them go." She has a playful tone of voice, but I can tell (Y/N) means a great deal to her.

You need a change, a big one. When your estranged grandfather passes away and bequeaths you his farm in a little town just south of the middle of nowhere, you take it as the sign you needed to make a change instead of waiting for one.

The farm, while having fallen into a state of disrepair, is just the thing to cure your modern-world ailments. The people are kind and always ready to offer help, if a bit unusual. They have old superstitions, a haunted community center, and a resident wizard. Spoiler alert: those last two on the list take some getting used to.

Yes, things are different here but you have a sneaking suspicion that the slow pace and a certain alchemical practitioner are going to remind you that sometimes, all you need is time and a little bit of magic.

the thought made you lightheartedly giggle. of course, it hurt to see the man you loved with a lookalike of you. seemingly a mirror of his past, it was almost as if he had attempted to replace you.

despite the cockiness that rang, the resemblance was ever so uncanny. every aspect that gojo claimed was ‘unique’ about you was represented in her own appearance.

geto had said it himself. gojo was trying to find traces of you in someone else.

and none of this was her fault. if anything, you felt bad for his current girlfriend. gojo was charismatic and charming, and you didn’t blame her for falling for him. gojo was the only one to take blame for the unfortunate circumstances.

you never wanted to end things in the first place. but gojo did because you two weren’t ‘working out’… perhaps it was something that you did wrong, or perhaps he had just fallen out of love. the idea went past you, whatever it was. as much as you attempted to wrap your head around his motivations, you could never quite pinpoint just what you did wrong.

you shook off your thoughts and let your gaze wander back to the couple, when you noticed gojo looking at you as well. it was the first time in months that the two of you had made proper eye contact, and you felt your heart drop.

he had this almost woeful look in his eyes as you two had a staredown across your college campus. a seldom glance he sent across the courtyard conveyed every emotion you needed to know. his girlfriend, who was previously talking, noticed that gojo wasn’t quite paying attention to her. she turned her head to see where he was looking which was when she spotted you.

of course, she knew all about you. gojo couldn’t stop himself from talking about you after all.

you were gojo’s first love. at family gatherings, you were the one his family would bring up before he had to remind them that you were gone.

how deeply upsetting it was for her to see the disappointment written across their faces once they realized who he had picked after you.

she knew that she was just your lookalike, and it was a matter of time before gojo would come to his senses and attempt to get you back.

you made eye contact with her and gave her a soft smile. almost as if to say ‘i’m sorry.’

she knew you had nothing to apologize for. it wasn’t your fault that gojo didn’t know how to cope with his own feelings. it was his own fault for that, but it was her fault for dating gojo while knowing that he didn’t truly love her. she was willing to go through that pain just for him.

but seeing how y/n and gojo looked at each other and the love that filled their eyes, she knew that she couldn’t compare.

she was on the outside of your story.

amidst the rustling leaves, her voice reached gojo, a fragile melody woven with a tinge of melancholy. "some stories," she mused, "unfold in the shadows of familiarity, don't they, satoru?"

eyes staring blankly, a silent and unspoken confession made its way to gojo’s ears. he didn’t need to ask what she had meant by that.

everyone knew that she was just your lookalike, even gojo.

“don’t lose her a second time.”

that was all she said, before standing up to walk away. no more words had to be said. gojo knew why she was walking away— because she was breaking up with him.

“for what it’s worth, i’m sorry.” gojo let out before his (now ex) girlfriend could leave.

“if you were sorry you wouldn’t have dated me with someone else in mind.” the girl stopped in her tracks, and turned around. a ghost of a smile graced her lips. her carefree shattered like fragile glass. “i’ve felt it all along—this charade we're living. it’s your past you're holding onto, not me.”

that was it. that was the end of their relationship. no tears, no yelling, just silence.

but she was right. gojo should’ve just faced his own feelings and not dragged someone else into his mess. all he could think about at that moment was the way you stood there under the light looking so ethereal, and he had made up his mind about one thing.

“hey y/n,”

your eyes trailed upwards to meet the face of the man who had consumed all of your mental space in the past year, the man who made you feel like a lovesick teenager. the same man who seemed as though he could never get rid of you.

a smile quirked its way to your features.

“so… i guess my best attempt at getting a replacement fell short, nothing compares to the real deal. how about we skip the charades and grab coffee sometime?”

a silent song rang across the courtyard, singing lyrics of a love that was always meant to be.

Names in IkeVil

Update! Added new boys.

All combinations of first and last names I find extremely good. They sound catching and are easy to remember. It has always been a challenge for me to remember the names of new characters, but here… I had only one problem. I've always confused William with Victor. To me, all names that start with the same letter (in this case, they sound like they start with the same letter) are very similar. And here not only one letter, but also the first syllable sound the same. You know… that was tough. It's only then I start calling them by pet names (Willy and Vic) I finally start hearing them differently.

There is a pseudoscience that claims that all words or names can be described in a few words that convey the emotions you experience when you hear them. It called phonosemantics. I cannot say that this is real science, because there is no (and cannot be) proof… everything is incredibly personal. But it exists, and I find the concept very fascinating.

But first let's talk about how I hear their names. Random order. Don't look for deep meaning.

🐱Liam Evans. It sounds very soft and sweet to me, like marshmallows. It's very streamlined and even shapeless, but it's still extremely pleasant to hear and easy to remember. It's a good name for an actor.

⏳Jude Jazza. Juicy. That's the first thought. It sways pleasantly in the mouth, I wanna repeat it again and again. To me, it sounds like a sour candy with a sweet core that constantly hits the teeth with an unpleasant, but for some reason attractive sound.

❤️William Rex. A very loud and strong name. It sounds like the name of a political leader or something. But in the end it softened slightly, so the impression changed a bit. Now it feels like a warm blanket. I can't see him as food. A shame…

🦊Harrison Gray. Another strong name. But it sounds softer, more stable… there are no sharp corners in it. It is strong, but soft. I don't know why, but it feels like something with carrot in it. Not juice, maybe cake… I'm sorry, Harry… You're not strawberry milk.

🔫Roger Barel. I don't know why this name feels like a balm that smooths all problems. It's warm and cozy. It's like sitting by the fireplace with a cup of cocoa. Funny… I don't like this guy, but his name makes the most calming impression on me.

🪞Alfons Sylvatica. Very unusual. I see it as something with a lot of spices, like an Indian food, but the taste is constantly changing. I love it. I like the softness of his name, how unique and very odd it sounds… This name is not easy to pronounce, but there is something alluring about it. I really like it.

🍎Elbert Greetia. His name gave the impression of something big but soft. It sounds strong at first, but in the end it sounds like something small and even shy one… For some reason, he reminds me of cotton candy.

⛓️Ellis Twilight. Very soft, very smooth, but somehow cold… For some reason, I see a picture of being outside in the middle of the night (perhaps due of the meaning) in a field of flowers or on the riverbank… perhaps both. It's a summer night, soft and calm, with lots of stars in the sky. It's a little cold, but not enough to feel chills. Compare with food… maybe ice cream. It's incredibly delicious, but if you're not careful all the time, you may catch a cold.

☠️Victor. It feels small (funny, considering the character), but soft, with a lot of cream.

And new boys. But before I start... I always read twins' last name differently - Schatz. By the way, it means "treasure" in German. Why am I doing this? A long time ago… then I tried to come up with a pseudonym for myself, the only name came to mind - Schatze - from a very old movie with Marilyn Monroe. If you know, then you know. It's awkward to explain, but let's just say that she was the only one who got what she wanted. And at the time I thought it must be written - Shatcey. Well, I didn't think this name had German roots. And because of that, I subconsciously think of twins as somehow related to me. Very awkward...

⚔️Nika Schvartz. I hear it as something very chewy and juicy… Why does only cucumber on my mind? Okay, he'll be cucumber.

🛡️Ring Schvartz. Melodious, soft, but not too much. It melts pleasantly in the mouth. I don't know why but it sounds like something with chocolate in it. Maybe a chocolate cake.

🪽Darius Vogel. Like Elbert, he starts with a very big one and ends up with a very small one. But it doesn't seems that he wants to look smaller than he really is. He is more firm, like a spring, which at some point shrinks, but returns to its former shape in no time. With food… Lots of water. Not just juicy food, but a real drink. Juice. Orange juice. Don't ask. Just feels right.

And this is how phonosemantic analysis describes these names*:

* I haven't found an easy way to get these characteristics in English. There are many articles, but I'm too lazy to read to figure out how to do it myself (and I don't really have time for this). I need a form where I can enter a name and click a button to get the result. But I didn't find anything like this in English. So I used transliteration into my native language, entered it into forms, found the result, translated it back into English (yes, I had time for that!!!). And suddenly I discovered that I probably don't pronounce all the names correctly. The biggest issue was with Greetia. I always pronounce it the way I see it [Gritia], but the translator says it should be [Grisha]. And depending on how it's pronounced, I get different results. Not much different, but still… So I choose the words the way I found it more correct.

I was a little offended because of Alfons, but you cannot change the facts, aren't you? And Victor, as always, is mysterious…

I'm very surprised by Nika's "quiet" characterization… Interesting. I totally agree about Ring. He's like an unpolished diamond. And Darius… wow… I'm starting to think about him a little differently. We'll see.

Take a look for yourself. I think there's a lot in common with the characters. So maybe devs are using this "science" when choosing their names. Or it's just a coincidence… Or this thing really works…
