SCRIPT: *Gabrielle kisses a male character*
RENEE: "Nope, rewrite it. Gabrielle is not doing that. Gabrielle wouldn't kiss a male character at this point in the show."
SCRIPT: *Gabrielle kisses a female character*
RENEE: "Look, that's certainly consistent with Gabrielle's character at this point in the show but why would she kiss some random woman she's just met?"
SCRIPT: *Gabrielle kisses Xena*
RENEE: "Oh fantastic! This is absolutely something Gabrielle would do. Finally me and Lucy get to smooch. Bring it on!"
It honestly floors me that the only time Gabrielle had a proper kiss scene past seasons 1&2 it was with Xena because that’s the only one Renee allowed to happen.

"What emerged in two interviews with Trump, and conversations with more than a dozen of his closest advisers and confidants, were the outlines of an imperial presidency that would reshape America and its role in the world. To carry out a deportation operation designed to remove more than 11 millions people from the country, Trump told me, he would be willing to build migrant detention camps and deploy the U.S. military, both at the border and inland. He would let red states monitor women's pregnancies and prosecute those who violate abortion bans. He would, at his personal discretion, withhold funds appropriated by Congress, according to top advisers. He would be willing to fire a U.S. Attorney who doesn't carry out his order to prosecute someone, breaking with a tradition of independent law enforcement that dates from America's founding. He is weighing pardons for every one of his supporters accused of attacking the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, more than 800 of whom have pleaded guilty or been convicted by a jury. He might not come to the aid of an attacked ally in Europe or Asia if he felt that country wasn't paying enough for its own defense. He would gut the U.S. civil service, deploy the National Guard to American cities as he sees fit, close the White House pandemic-preparedness office, and staff his Administration with acolytes who back his false assertion that the 2020 election was stolen."
-- "How Far Would He Go", TIME Magazine's interviews with Donald Trump, April 30, 2024.
I know we're saturated in coverage of Trump and it's easy (and probably better for our mental health) to usually ignore most of the articles when we see them, especially since he's so full of shit and infuriating. But it's also important to recognize that he is going to be the Republican nominee for President and he could absolutely be elected in November, and if you thought his first term was scary and dangerous, you need to understand that in a second term he's going to have people around him that are better prepared and VERY willing to do the crazy shit that he wants to do to this country. They aren't even hiding the fact that they are seeking vengeance against political opponents whom they feel have wronged them, and are ready to fundamentally dismantle the democratic foundations that are barely holding this country together after nearly 250 years.
Just look at what Trump says about the people who he incited to attack the United States Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election and halt the peaceful transfer of power that has happened every four years since 1789:
"Trump has sought to recast an insurrectionist riot as an act of patriotism. 'I call them the J-6 patriots,' he say. When I ask whether he would consider pardoning every one of them, he says, 'Yes, absolutely.' As Trump faces dozens of felony charges, including for election interference, conspiracy to defraud the United States, willful retention of national-security secrets, and falsifying business records to conceal hush-money payments, he has tried to turn legal peril into a badge of honor."
Oh, and please note that Trump -- a former President of the United States and possible future President of the United States -- said on the record in these interviews with TIME: "There is a definite antiwhite feeling in the country and that can't be allowed either." We are at a point where political leaders are outright saying that in this country again, and it's because of Donald Trump.
So, take the time to recognize that Trump is straight-up telling us the country we're going to be living in if he wins again in November. And understand that your vote matters -- and WHO you vote for matters -- because, as I've been saying for years now, ELECTIONS HAVE FUCKING CONSEQUENCES.

Yandere!Maid x Vampire!Reader
A/N: If you wanna know more about the levels, check this post :)
Warning: Not nsfw, but suggestive. MDNI. Butler (side character) calls reader “Mistress”
Danger level: ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Submissive level: ♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎ ♡ ♡
Yandere!Maid who looks at the castle in front of him, then the flier in his hands, then the castle again. Unless there was a typo in the address, the job interview should be here. He hesitantly uses the bat shaped door knocker and waits...This place looks so creepy and ominous, was this a prank ? Was it to scare him? Seriously? Sigh…He has had enough of being treated like a fool. As he continues his descent into frustration, bitterness and self-pity, he doesn’t hear the door opening. Nor does he see the butler standing at the entrance until he hears a: “Sorry for the wait, my kind sir. Are you here for the housekeeper position?”.
Yandere!Maid who thinks the butler is telling him a load of bullshit. According to him, the owner of this place is a vampire in search of additional staff members. He resists the urge to scoff. Whatever, if the “mistress” wants to take part in some weird role-play, then so be it as long as he would get paid. The same guy tells him to “please take a seat” in the living room and that “mistress will come and attend to you in a moment”. Soon after his departure, the air shifts. Black particles float around until it materializes something, or rather someone. The poor boy's shock and confusion quickly turn into enchantment. Fuck, you are totally his type. This is bad, he can feel his face burning. “Shall we go to my office?”, you ask with a smile.
Yandere!Maid who hates you. Who hates the fact that your personality matches your looks. Who hates how much control you have over him. The other day, your...pet sneezed on him, so he needed another uniform. “It seems that I only have a female one left ”, you told him. “There is no way in hell I am wearing that”, he sneered. “But wouldn’t you look cute in it? Besides, it is either that or cleaning with your normal clothes on until your new uniform arrives here-” “Alright, shut up, just give me that”, he abruptly took the offending dress from your hands and went to change. Since that conversation, his work attire has fully transitioned to said maid outfit. Maybe he becomes a bit too proud of himself whenever he catches you staring at him. And maybe, just maybe he wants to give you a nice view by bending down and taking his time “to clean the table” whenever he knows you are behind him. He will never admit that though.
Yandere!Maid who, one day, demands asks you about your eating habits. As soon as you answer, something regarding animal blood, he turns oddly quiet. You are about to ask what is wrong, but then he surprises you by climbing into your lap. You watch him get comfortable and, with trembling hands, undo the first buttons of his dress. The cherry on top is him pulling on its collar a bit to show a silver of his chest. He now avoids eye contact as he waits for you to take the lead…You are still just looking at him, so, with a blush becoming darker, he snaps at you: “A-are you stupid or something ? Do you want me to spell it out-” “I am just enjoying the view”, you respond with a teasing smile. Before he can sputter more insults, you grip his chin and tilt his head to the side, exposing his neck to your hungry gaze. “But if you insist…Thank you for the meal <3”
Yandere!Maid who has his face buried deep in his pillow while he tries to calm his flustered self down. After you finished drinking from him, he hurriedly got up and scurried to his room without so much as a word. The more he recalls the embarrassing noises he made in front of you, the more mortified he becomes. It was not his fault, it just felt really good and you even pulled him closer and tugged on his hair and-He whines and squirms in his bed as he feels his body turning hot again like that time. The action causes him to feel a sharp sting on his neck. He freezes. That is right. You marked him. You marked him. You marked him.
...
Don't drink from anyone else, ok?

idk if its okay
but can I request for the tapis rouge boyos (vil, azul, jamil, ace) with a reader who gets hit on by a well known celebrity who has a reputation for being a playboy.
thank youuu
ACE, JAMIL, AZUL AND VIL X READER
Where a famous playboy actor wants to flirt with you in Tapis Rouge
How would guys react if, at the Vil's Red Carpet Cadets event, a famous actor with dark intentions approached you to hit on you?
I put Zane as the default name, if there is a Zane reading this, don't be offended😭 You don't need to have played the event to read the one-shot, I hope you enjoy it <3
Maquillaville was packed with rich, famous people who—according to Ace—were annoyingly full of themselves. He wasn't really used to this kind of fancy event, but he played it off well with his cocky grin and bold style. In his own way, he looked great.
You were chatting with a few guests when someone Ace couldn't ignore walked in.
Model, actor, and even film director. He had that fake-perfect smile and a dating history that probably broke some kind of record. Tall, tanned, and smooth-talking, he zoned in on you like a predator the second he saw you.
"Sorry to interrupt," "Zane" said with a charming smirk, "but your smile is brighter than the lights in this place. How about I buy you a drink… or better yet, take you out to dinner tomorrow?"
Ace stopped chewing his fancy canapé. He turned his head slowly, like he'd just heard the funniest joke ever.
"A drink? Seriously? Bro, do you think you're in some rom-com?"
Zane blinked at him, confused. “And you are…?”
Ace slid in next to you, his hand on your hip, flashing his most smug smile, though his eyes were sharp.
"The boyfriend. The only one who can make them smile like that without copy-pasting lines from Google."
Zane chuckled. "Well, lucky you, man. No harm in a compliment—"
“Sure, sure,” Ace said, crossing his arms.
"But there's a difference between a compliment and drooling all over my partner. If you want attention that bad, try flirting with a mirror. Bet it'll respond better."
Zane rolled his eyes and walked off in annoyance.
Once he was out of sight, you turned to Ace, one eyebrow raised.
“Jealous?”
“Jealous?!” Ace spun toward you, visibly offended.
"That wasn't jealousy! That was common sense! The guy was talking like you were a character in some cheesy pickup scene! And you laughed at one of his jokes! Like—seriously!?"
You laughed.
“Oh, Ace…”
He clicked his tongue, but his grin gave him away. He leaned in, wrapping an arm around your waist.
"Look, I don't care if you're the center of attention. Honestly, I love it. Let the whole world stare… just so they know exactly who you're with—"
His voice dropped to a murmur against your ear.
“—and who they’ll never be.”
Then he pulled back, smirking wider.
“And if that C-list actor tries flirting again, I swear I'm going to stuff his ego in a box and send it back with a bow.”
Jamil was at your side, impeccable. Although he tried to appear calm, he kept scanning every corner of the room… especially whoever looked at you for too long.
And then he saw it.
Internationally acclaimed actor and singer, known as much for his musical hits as for his romantic history. He was the kind of person who turned every interview into an opportunity to flirt and every gala into a hunt.
He approached you with that well-rehearsed smile of his, champagne glass in hand, his eyes shining with that invasive interest.
"I didn't know stars walked this red carpet," he said, scanning you from head to toe. "Do you have a date for after the event?"
Before you could answer, you felt Jamil's firm presence at your side. His smile was barely perceptible, and his dark eyes, fixed on him.
"I don't think you heard correctly," he said calmly. "They're with me."
Zane laughed sarcastically, never taking his eyes off you.
"Oh, I thought you were a stylish bodyguard. I didn't know you were the… boyfriend?"
Jamil took a step forward, placing himself completely between you and him, like a protective shadow.
"I'll tell you this only once. I don't know what kind of games you usually play with your 'conquests,' but if you want to keep your reputation from falling further, I suggest you back off now."
He raised an eyebrow, still defiant.
"And if I don't?"
Jamil smiled with disturbing slowness.
"Then I'll make you understand. And believe me, I know exactly how to do it without ruining your image… although I wouldn't mind that in the least."
There was a moment of tension. He, perhaps for the first time in a long time, felt insecure around someone. And he left.
You looked at Jamil, somewhat impressed.
"Are you always so calm when you're jealous?"
"Jealous?" Jamil sighed, taking your hand.
"I'm not jealous. I'm irritated. Because that guy dared to look at you like a trophy."
He turned to you, his expression softer.
"And you're not a trophy. You're someone I chose, and who chose me. I don't need to shout it… but I won't let anyone dare touch what I respect."
Every flashbulb seemed to follow you as you walked beside Vil, so perfect it outshone even the biggest stars. The whole world felt like a runway, and you, at his side, were part of the spectacle.
You were used to receiving stares, but this time you felt a particularly insistent one.
"Do you know him?"
Vil whispered near your ear, without taking his eyes off a certain famous actor who was approaching.
It was an international star known for his leading man roles… and for his many love scandals. Vil pursed his lips with the elegance of someone who knew perfectly well who this man was and how little he liked him.
"Only by sight…" you replied, a little uncomfortable as you noticed the actor coming straight toward you.
"Then don't stare at him so much." Vil murmured with a charming smile, but his eyes were sharp.
The actor arrived and, as if he had no idea who Vil was (which was impossible), offered you his hand.
"I didn't expect to see someone so charming tonight. Have we met? Because if not, I'd love to change that."
Vil took a subtle step, standing half in front of you. His face, still sporting a polite smile, was tense like a perfectly placed mask.
"Funny, I thought charm wasn't enough when it came to respect," he said, in that tone of his as polished as liquid poison.
"My partner doesn't usually fall for such cheap tricks, Mr. Zane."
The actor laughed, as if he didn't take the hint.
"A couple? What a shame… Although that's never been an obstacle in romantic movies," he joked, winking at you.
You opened your mouth to reply, but Vil was quicker. He took your hand and entwined it with his, raising his chin
"This isn't a movie. And if you think you can turn my relationship into just another chapter in your "red carpet romances," you're sorely mistaken."
The actor seemed amused by the reaction, but seeing Vil's sharp gaze with pride, jealousy, and elegance, he simply raised his hands.
"Well, well. I didn't know you were so committed, Schoenheit. Lucky for you. And for you too."
He winked at you with a mischievous smile before walking away.
The air seemed to have cooled a couple of degrees.
Vil turned to you, still frowning slightly.
"I warn you, that man is like cheap perfume: strong at first, but in the end, only an unpleasant aftertaste."
"Are you jealous?" You asked with a soft smile.
Vil stared at you, then sighed, smoothing out an invisible wrinkle in your attire.
"No. I'm forewarned. Because I value you. And I won't let someone like him touch you with even the hint of an intention."
He leaned in elegantly, his lips brushing the line of your jaw, just enough for you to feel it only for yourself.
"You're too precious to be trifled with. And if anyone tries… they'll have to face me."
The hair, his thin glasses, and that brown suit with subtle pinstripes gave him an air of sophistication that contrasted with his inner nerves whenever someone approached you.
You'd been walking through with him, just chatting, when a tall man with an easy smile and a foreign accent approached you.
"Are you the person everyone is whispering is stealing the event tonight? My name is Zane Duclair but you can call me Zane. Although I'd prefer it if you called me later."
He winked at you.
Azul blinked. He smiled, but his fingers trembled slightly as he gripped your hand.
"Zane Duclair… the actor with three public breakups and five harassment lawsuits… charming track record," he murmured.
Zane gave a carefree laugh, as if everything was slipping away.
"Oh, all in the past. Tonight I'm only interested in this beautiful person," he said, taking your hand without permission. "Would you do me the pleasure of dinner after the gala?"
Before you could respond, Azul placed a hand on your shoulder. His smile was still there, but his eyes were pure ice.
"I'm sorry to interrupt your attempt at 'conquest,' Zane, but my companion already has plans with me tonight. And they're non-negotiable."
Lucien raised an eyebrow.
"And who are you? Their manager?"
Azul let out a short, almost mocking laugh.
"No, I'm a bit more complicated than that. I'm the person who knows their every taste, every gesture, every look. And also the person who can't stand it when someone with a questionable reputation tries to fish in waters that don't belong to him."
Zane looked offended, but Azul stepped forward, still keeping his voice polite.
"And if you insist, I can present you with a complete list of legal clauses regarding harassment and non-consensual advances. I'm sure your lawyers will be able to read between the lines."
Zane left, visibly irritated, and Azul took your arm to lead you away, taking a deep breath.
"I'm sorry," you said. "I didn't expect someone like him to approach me like that."
Azul shook his head.
"Don't apologize. It's not your fault there are men who confuse charisma with entitlement. But if he approaches you again… I won't need contracts."
He glanced at you, lowering his voice.
"You are valuable. I will not allow anyone to see you as something they can buy or conquer. Because you are already… firmly committed to me."

"To do the work of suggesting how and why sexuality matters in a discussion of family and kinship, we reached out to community members to collect personal stories from queer Chicagoans for the section’s main video. We conducted inter- views with a wide array of people, but the most controversial interview came from Chuck Renslow, the founder of leather culture in Chicago. Renslow established the country’s irst leather bar, the Gold Coast, in Chicago in 1958. Over the course of a ninety-minute interview Renslow talked about the origins of leather in Chicago and how the city served as a mecca for people who integrated leather products into their sexual practices. He also described the dynamics of dominant and passive relation- ships and their role in leather-based sexual practice. Renslow talked about the use of the terms “leather daddy” to refer to the dominant partner and “boy,” not “son,” to refer to the passive partner. The distinction between boy and son was incred ibly signiicant, according to Renslow, because the terminology resisted the baseless attack that leather men were incestuous or pedophilic. Renslow spent a good deal of time explaining that leather people grounded their sexual practice in consent among adults, and described multiple relationships that encircled long-term ones, exempliied by his forty-three-year relationship with his partner, Dom Orejudos. He expressed a sense of family based on shared sexual and social practices. It became quite clear that Renslow belonged in the family section of the exhibition, but that he spoke about family in ways that might be anathema to many visitors, LGBT or straight, and therefore needed to play a critical role in how we curated this section. Trillium Productions, our video collaborators, produced a two- and-a-half-minute version of the interview that brought tears to our eyes with its poignancy. It began with the premise that while leather practices were often deemed immoral and illegal, they were in fact grounded in a deep and abiding respect for ideas that exist at the basis of our legal system — namely that adults, whether they refer to themselves as leather daddies or boys, can consent to one another. The museum’s leadership demanded that Renslow’s description of leather daddies and boys be removed for fear that people would deem Renslow a “pedophile.” While we tried to explain that this was precisely what Renslow struggled against, and that the presumption was based on a myth that gay men were predators and perpetrators of sexual violence against children, we failed to convince the leadership that our visitors would see the piece as we hoped they would. The vignette was reedited and the ref- erence to boys was removed, along with images that represented Renslow’s family as he described it. In the piece that appears in the gallery, alongside eleven other stories from LGBT Chicagoans, Renslow names himself a “leather daddy” but does not identify as a dominant or top, or call the men he cared for “boys.” Despite our serious concerns about the editing of Renslow’s testimony, the results bore out the leadership’s decision to change the content. Visitors, whether LGBT or straight, consistently report that Renslow’s piece is one of the most powerful and thought-provoking stories in the entire show and has fundamentally altered their sense of what family means."

Nadezh' Interview
Summary: After Nadezh previous identity as the Firebreather, notorious Supervillain, was revealed, she thought she’d lose everything. She’s never been so happy to be wrong.
You can read Nadezh' first story (HERE)
--------------------------.
It’s decided that Nadezh will work in the finance department of Hero Force. She hates to leave her civilian job and her coworkers seeing the success of her budget fully bloom, but the other option is wearing the power suppressors 24/7, and their power frequency vibrates through her engagement ring in a way that reminds her of a bee buzzing, and she won’t take the ring off so.
The interview is a formality but they make her do it anyway. She prepares for it over the course of seven days, making Gannon rehearse every hypothetical question with her until the last minute.
Until the last minute meaning on the drive to Hero Force for the interview.
“There is a discrepancy in the packaging budget,” Gannon reads. He’s used to her driving and doesn’t flinch when she merges too quickly, and a chorus of Chicago drivers chastise her loudly. “There is a flat rate for three different sizes of package. According to the average order value and average product mix, packaging should be $3.5k—Nadezh, Hero Force doesn’t have a commerce division, I don’t think this is necessary.”
Nadezh knows the rest of this question. What steps would you take to reconcile actual and planned? “Of course, there’s the option to conduct a forensic audit, however—”
“We do have a forensic finance department,” Gannon concedes, “but that’s not—”
“—first would be to observe the whole packaging process. While there is a flat rate for all three package sizes that doesn’t mean all orders are being packaged for efficiency—”
Gannon reaches for her knee, thinks better of it, considering her foot on the gas pedal, and diverts to her shoulder. He squeezes, and all of the tension in her back magically eases. “Babe. You’re already overqualified. You’re going to do great.”
They’ve already had this argument, so Nadezh doesn’t say Overqualified? It’s amazing they’re even letting me into a Hero Force building, I could be the President and I still wouldn’t be qualified considering my past. Instead, she says, “Right. Right, thanks. You’re right. Right.”
“Right,” Gannon says seriously.
“Right,” she says and takes the next exit.
“Riiiiiiight.”
By the time they pull into the parking garage, Nadezh is laughing at the increasingly bizarre ways Gannon says the word right. The word barely has meaning anymore, and she’s fairly certain that if anyone else heard Hero Zone sounding so goat-like, they’d send him to psych for an evaluation.
Nadezh gets out of the car first, hurrying before he can say anything else that will set her off.
“Go save the day,” she says. Her face hurts from smiling. She tosses him the keys over the roof of the car after she closes the door. “I can get the train back.”
Gannon rounds the bumper and presses them back into her hand. He kisses her forehead. “No public transport from HQ.”
She blinks, the spot his lips touched tingling. “Is that a rule?”
“Our house rule,” Gannon says. He smiles reassuringly at her. “Just a precaution. I know too many people who get made getting followed out of HQ.”
Gannon always explains himself even though she never asks. Her heart is racing at our house rules. They have house rules. They’re engaged. They’re going to get married. She lifts her chin for a kiss. “I love you.”
“Love you.” He kisses her.
Kissing Gannon is the closest she feels to her powers these days. The warmth that runs through her, the heat in her cheeks, the pounding of her heart – actually she takes it back. It’s not like her power at all. It’s better than her power.
“Break it up!” a man calls from across the parking garage.
Electricity shoots through Nadezh. She didn’t hear him come up behind her. She tries to pull away from Gannon, to turn and protect them, but his hands on her shoulders stop her. Her brain catches up a moment later. Gannon is relaxed, warm brown eyes still happy. The voice is familiar.
“It’s not goodbye yet,” another voice says grumpily. This time Nadezh recognizes the speaker. When her tension eases, Gannon lifts his hands long enough for her to turn and greet Flare. He drapes his arms over Nadezh’s shoulders. Flare’s eye twitches. “There’s, like, a whole elevator ride to go.”
“There’s cameras in the elevator,” Gannon says.
Nadezh still doesn’t know what to make of Gannon’s Hero team. Omit – the leader of the team – is decent. Fast, sound decisions on the field, always knows when to retreat, which is important when your team is made of B and C-rank heroes. His power – to eliminate an object from the enemy’s perception during battle – makes her uneasy. Despite his openness with her, she can’t erase the suspicion that he’s using his powers on her from her mind.
She likes Flare. The woman is bright and bubbly, almost six inches shorter than Nadezh, with all the energy of a hummingbird. Though she’s stationed on Gannon’s team, she’s in high demand across the city. There aren’t many fliers out there, and although her dragonfly wings aren’t exactly subtle, she’s fast enough and strong enough to conduct recon across Lake Michigan. Flare keeps Gannon safe when he’s out saving the world. Nobody sneaks up on them with her around.
Mostly.
“Us singles are feeling left out,” Omit says and tries to drape an arm over Flare’s shoulders.
Flare flits away. “Interview today?” she asks Nadezh.
“Right,” Nadezh says.
Gannon’s burst of surprised laughter lasts all the way to Nadezh’s floor where he waves goodbye breathlessly.
Even with his mask obstructing the crow’s feet she loves, Nadezh savors the memory of his joy all the way to her interview.
----.
Agent Briston isn’t like any other agent Nadezh has ever seen. He’s in his sixties, round, bald, and wearing a sweater vest under his regulation suit jacket. She thinks there’s a reason agents like him are kept out of sight. He looks like an easy target—no. She doesn’t think about people as targets anymore. She means that he looks like the grandfather in a commercial about watches, the one who takes the vintage watch off of his own wrist to wrap it around the grandson’s with an air of gravity.
“This interview isn’t a guarantee, despite your…recommendations,” Agent Briston says the moment Nadezh sits down. His desk has nothing but a computer, a notepad, and a pen. Somehow the harried look on his face makes it seem cluttered with paper. “We don’t have the budget for many staff. We need to be selective.”
Nadezh resists the urge to pull at the Hero Force regulation mask on her face or the power suppressors around her wrists. Part of her agreement with Foresight was that she’d wear the cuffs whenever Gannon wasn’t with her. The blue glow feels ostentatious, and she hopes Agent Briston won’t turn her down based on them. “Understood, sir.”
“Briston,” Agent Briston says. He pinches the bridge of his nose. “Only the heroes call me sir. My staff calls me Briston.”
Nadezh nods. “I’m Nadezh Mel—”
“No last names, Nadezh,” Briston says. He pulls his glasses from a desk drawer and puts them on. He squints at his computer. “Now. Tell me. Do you have accounting experience?”
“Yes, si—Briston.”
Briston’s thick white eyebrows raise and he abandons his computer to focus back on Nadezh. He seems skeptical. “Really?”
“I created the office budget for my last company,” Nadezh says. She has a better way to say this, she rehearsed this with Gannon— “My plan allowed for the purchase of new chairs and a copier.”
Briston stares at her. “You really have accounting experience.”
Did he not hear her? Or did she answer incorrectly? “I-I was also part of the team that allocated reinvestment funds—”
“Foresight’s recruits never have accounting experience.”
“—and payroll for over 500 employees—”
“Payroll!” Briston looks up at the ceiling. “She does payroll!”
“I—I’m sorry?” she says. She can’t read his tone. Is he disappointed or being sarcastic? She scrambles for her next interview answer. “I have a bachelor’s in accounting from Illinois State, but I plan to complete my master’s in the next five years—”
Briston makes a sound she’s only ever heard from frightened raccoons. “You’re hired,” Briston declares. He reaches over the desk to shake her hand. “I’ll draw up a counteroffer before noon.”
Confused, Nadezh shakes his hand. His grip is surprisingly strong. “Sir? The terms of my employment should already be in my file.” Foresight had made it clear she’d be starting at the bottom level of the pay scale.
“We aren’t paying my new director that,” Briston says. “We’ll start double that and see what they counter offer.”
“They? Aren’t you in charge of salary approvals?” Nadezh asks. Then, as his words sink in, “Director?!”
Briston beams at her. “Experience, a degree, and common sense! We’ll settle for 30% higher than the initial offer with a condition for an additional 10% at the next performance review.”
“Director,” Nadezh says. When Briston doesn’t answer, ignoring her in favor of typing feverishly, Nadesh says with surety, “You’re joking.”
Briston hums and doesn’t answer her.
“Right?”
----.
Briston isn’t joking.
Gannon takes a dazed Nadezh out for dinner and drinks to celebrate. The private room he reserves is in the back of a Japanese restaurant run by a former Superhero. There are flowers on the table, candles strategically placed around the room, soundproofing on the walls, and a chilled bottle of Nadezh's favorite white wine waiting. She processes all of this distantly. She makes Gannon read her employment contract between bites of sushi. Bemused, he dutifully announces her employed status and starting salary whenever she asks.
“Guess I shouldn’t have listened to the rumors about the department head,” Gannon says. Rather than surprised, his voice carries an element of relief. “You’re barely taking a salary cut with this.”
“Cut? This is a ten percent raise,” Nadezh hisses. She stares at her green tea. “Does Foresight know?” A jolt of sick fear floods with her. “I didn’t make Briston give me a raise, I swear!”
“Nadezh, of course you didn’t,” Gannon says. He reaches across the table to nudge at her clenched hands. Automatically, she unfurls them to reveal half-moon indents from her nails. He slides his palm against hers. “You deserve this.”
“But Foresight might think—”
“He won’t.” Gannon picks up his chopsticks with his left hand, content to let his right keep holding hers so that her dominant hand is free. He’s clumsier with them and frowns as he chases salmon roe around his plate. “Briston has almost unilateral say in the finance department. Nobody can sway him. He’s known for being short-tempered, cheap, and stubborn. I’m sure Foresight will just be grateful he finally hired someone.”
Nadezh narrows her eyes. “You said you didn’t know the person interviewing me.”
“Oops?” Gannon finally catches the salmon roe under a bite of rice and pops it in his mouth. He chews innocently. “Did I?”
“Fess up.”
“It’s not like I know a lot. People say Briston fires more than he hires.” Gannon’s eyes shift to the side. “Aaaand that he can be heard yelling whenever it’s time to calculate overtime expenses. Or whenever the armory submits their expense report. Or when the audit team comes back with city damage claims. Or when—”
Nadezh drops her head into her free hand, letting her long black hair hide her for a moment. She forgot that Hero Force accountants dealt with destroyed skyscrapers and medical leave for when you got your arms ripped off in a fight, not copiers and desk chairs. “You didn’t think to mention any of this before the interview?!”
“You were freaked out enough.” Gannon pauses in the way he does when he’s about to say what he’s really thinking so Nadezh doesn’t interrupt. She waits as he chews until he finally says, “I’m glad he bumped your salary. I was starting to feel guilty.”
Nadezh’s hand spasms around Gannon’s. “Guilty?”
“Yeah,” Gannon says. His smile didn’t reach his eyes. “I argued against making you leave your job. Said it made Hero Force the sort of organization everyone always accuses us of being. Overreaching and, well…cruel.”
“You didn’t tell me about that either.” Had he been thinking that this whole time? While she made him practice interview questions with her? Did he think she was forcing herself? The thought of Gannon feeling even a tenth of the gnawing guilt that lives inside her makes her want to throw up. Nadezh shakes her head and leans across the table. She’s glad for the private room and how it allows her to show him how his words affect her. “Babe, you don’t have anything—"
“I know how hard you worked for that job,” Gannon interrupts. He licks his lips. Now it’s his turn to stare at his tea. “Please, just…listen.”
Nadezh would do anything Gannon asked. She squeezes his hand again and fights the words bubbling up her throat like lava.
“We haven’t really talked since that day,” Gannon says. He’s a Hero; he makes himself look into her eyes. “I haven’t really talked. I’ve been afraid to. I know your past isn’t…isn’t good. I do. And I know that you don’t want to forget about it or pretend it doesn’t exist.”
She wants to, but she can’t. Like hunger and emptiness, she doesn’t think Gannon will ever understand the weight she carries from the harm she’s done. The screams she’d once reveled in now haunt her in ways she could never have guessed. But he’s talking to her, so she doesn’t explain. She listens.
“I feel like I’ve been making you give up everything for me,” Gannon confesses in a rush. He speaks faster as her eyes widen, like if he makes his sentences a big enough river, she won’t be able to dam it up. “Your first civilian job, your past, and your freedom to do whatever you want to do – because you could do anything, you really could – and even your powers.” He rubs his thumb over the underside of her wrist where the power suppressors sit during working hours. His face crumples. “Every morning, I will have to take you to put them on. It’s…I hate it. It feels like I’m abandoning you, or like I’m part of your punishment, or like I’m not being the partner you deserve.”
She starts, half rising from her seat. “Gannon! How could you—?”
His grip is strong on her hand, and he gestures for her to sit with a quick jerk of his chin. His eyes close tight. “Please, Nadezh.”
She quiets.
It takes him a long time to start speaking again. He remains quiet until he’s able to look her in the eyes again. “You…that day. The day you saved my and my team’s life.”
The day she thought her fairytale had come to an end. Even now, the memory of his blank eyes as she revealed the red and gold costume of the Firebreather, one of the world’s most notorious and deadly supervillains, follows her. The cold wind whipping across the ship’s deck, the pillars of ice gleaming in the sun, his team haltingly asking her if she was going to take over the boat…and his eyes. The pain that ripped through her when she realized she would lose him was worse than anything she’d ever experienced. It had made her realize that she’d been a shell for years until she met him, that she’d been nothing until he showed her a world where she could be someone. In that moment, she’d known that she’d wasted his time on a dead end. That their dream to get married would never be the same if it happened at all and she had robbed him in her greed.
But he remembers it as the day she saved his life rather than dooming his future.
“I became a hero to save people,” Gannon says. His lips thin. “How did I put it? That day at the diner? To share the relief of having the day saved.” His face twists in a way she can’t understand. “You must have thought I was so naïve.”
“No,” she says simply.
He raises their hands so he can kiss the back of hers. “Thank you. I think I was naïve. Being a hero seemed simple, looking at the world that way, like everyone wanted to be saved and, in turn, wanted to one day go on to save someone else. Every moment of salvation would get repaid. Good things would always happen to good people.”
Well, when he put it like that.
Gannon continues, “But when I saw you standing there, dressed as the Firebreather, being saved was…different. It was all different.” He swallows hard. “For the first time, I realized saving the day wasn’t so simple. You had to reveal your identity to do it. You had to put your freedom and everything you worked for on the sidelines. Even us. You were ready to do it even if it meant we never got the chance to be married. I could tell that you weren’t going to let that stop you. You were going to save the day. Instead of being relieved, I felt afraid.”
A small noise of protest builds in Nadezh’s throat. “Afraid of me?”
“No!” Gannon’s eyes widen and he leans over the table. “No, never. Never, Nadezh. Even when that last fireball singed the toes of my boots, I didn’t flinch for a moment. I knew you would never hurt me.”
Nadezh’s laugh is watery. “So that’s why you threw out those boots.”
“Regulation is closed toe,” Gannon says gravely. He plays with her fingers. “I was afraid because I realized there was a cost that I wasn’t willing to pay, but you were.”
“I couldn’t let you die,” Nadezh says.
“I know.” Gannon clears his throat and adjusts his grip on her hand so that he can feel her pulse against his thumb. “I know. I’m not saying that’s wrong. Just…it was hard, wasn’t it?” His brown eyes search hers. “You knew before you even left the apartment to find me that you were going to lose everything.”
“But I didn’t,” Nadezh points out.
“But that’s what you thought.”
She can’t deny that.
“Saving the day is easy when it’s just a job,” Gannon says. “That day, I realized that I’d never really been a hero. It was a job, an important one, but not one that was going to take anything I wasn’t willing to give. That same job was the reason I let myself just stand there as Hero Force took you into custody. Like a coward. I hate myself for that moment.” His voice is raw with the admission. His free hand curls into a fist. “I should have run with you then.”
Nadezh barks a disbelieving laugh. It’s inappropriate, but the idea of Hero Zone, the most honorable hero in Chicago, running away with a supervillain is ridiculous. She hides her incredulity. “That’s—”
“I’m serious, Nadezh.” Gannon’s eyes burn through her, gaze unflinching. Her pulse jumps under his thumb. “I still think that. We could run now. Settle down somewhere and be civilians. Never show up on Hero Force radar again. Like Bonnie and Clyde hiding out from the law.”
“That’s not funny.” Try as she might, Nadezh can’t find any trace of humor on Gannon’s face. Her eyes dart around the room. When she can’t find any cameras, she leans forward and hisses, “Don’t even joke about that. You love being a hero.”
“I love being with you,” Gannon says. This time when he smiles the mole under his eye disappears with the force of it. “I told you, all I want is to marry you. No job will ever be worth more than that. So…” His smile wavers for a moment before he fixes it in place. “What do you say? Will you run away with me?”
Fuck. Her mind leaps ahead. They could get a place in the mountains. She knows how much Gannon misses his hometown on the East Coast. His family has long since disappeared from those ridges and valleys, but she can see him there, facing the sun with his arms held over his head in triumph. A field sprawled out below him blooms with green and a house sits just beyond that with a gently smoking chimney. Could she belong there too? With him?
Gannon mistakes her silence. “You wouldn’t have to wear the power suppressors ever again or worry about Briston yelling or what Hero Force will make you do. It could be just you and me like we always imagined. Together.”
Is he pleading with her? Begging her to say yes?
There will always be a part of her that wants to. The greedy and selfish part that wants to keep him all to herself, like the doll in her childhood that unraveled at the seams after only a month. The part of her that could hide him away is familiar. Too familiar.
“No.”
Gannon’s face falls. “No?”
“Not because I don’t want us,” she assures. Somehow, she feels lighter. Is this what’s been sitting silently between them this whole time? She could laugh. “I do. But I think you’re misunderstanding something. You’re not the reason why I’m cooperating with Hero Force.” She thinks over her words and then rephrases. “You’re not the only reason.”
“I’m not?” Gannon backtracks. “I mean, it’s not a problem if I’m not, but I thought…well. I thought given what you said in the interrogation room…”
“You will always be the love of my life,” Nadezh says. She finds the words as she says them. She’s had a lot of time to think about this – Gannon is not the first one to think what it’d be like to run away. “That will never change. It’s just…” Private room, she reminds herself. No one will be able to hear. She confesses, “I want to change. I don’t want to be the Firebreather anymore.”
“You’re not!”
Keep him, no one can stop you, power suppressors barely work once we really get up to temperature—Nadezh stops those thoughts firmly in their tracks. “There are parts of me that still are. I was afraid when I revealed who I was, but since then look how far I’ve come. You know all of me and you’re still here.” She lets her wonder and hope leak into her voice. Some mornings she wakes up to him by her side and can’t fathom how the universe let someone with hands as stained as hers have something so good. “I have a job. I have a way to give back for all the harm I caused. I…I think confronting my past has given me a chance to grow like I haven’t done before. A year ago, I couldn’t even accept the proposal from the man I love more than life itself. Now? I know that I can walk into work every day and have those power suppressors put on me by Hero Force -not you - and I can hold my head high.”
“Not me? Nadezh, I’m your containment,” Gannon says. His expression is tortured in the candlelight. “You say it’s Hero Force, but it’s me. I’m the one holding you back. Foresight said that Firebreather was sufficiently contained by my side, he awarded me custody—”
“Are you feeling guilty over that?” Nadezh’s mouth drops open. “Gannon, seriously?”
“I feel like I’m choosing to be your captor over being your fiancé,” Gannon says.
“Just like how you knew I would never hurt you, I know you would never hurt me. I wouldn’t even have to use my powers. I know the second I didn’t want to put those cuffs on, you wouldn’t.”
“I’m still—”
“No.” Nadezh won’t allow any room for confusion here. “Gannon. Stop. I am the one choosing to do this. That day I gave you a choice, remember? I said that you could walk away and I would be—” fine is a strong word “—I would understand. I was going to keep the memory of us agreeing to get married and let you walk away.”
There’s gravel in Gannon’s voice. He reaches across the table to capture her other hand. “I would never change my mind.”
“I believe you.” He was patient with her, waiting for her to believe it. She holds his hands back. “I believe you. So here’s what I’m asking. You gave me a choice just now. Stay or run away. Please believe me when I say I want to stay.”
“Even if it means I have to be your captor?” he asks, anguished.
She nearly snaps at the question. Isn’t he listening to what she’s saying? His tone stills her. She studies him. His eyes are teary, and she can feel his hands tremble in hers. “This really bothers you.”
He nods wordlessly.
She tries to put herself in his shoes. She imagines that he’s working as a henchman who used to be a hero. She imagines putting cuffs on him before work every day, knowing that he’d be helpless if the Villain ever decided to turn on him—She winces. “Maybe we can ask Omit to put on the cuffs instead?”
“I…we could try that,” Gannon says after a long moment. He breathes in through his nose. Out through his mouth. In through his nose. Then, “I really ruined this celebration dinner, huh?”
She snorts. Both of their eyes are red and swollen despite neither of them crying. “This is about how most of my celebration dinners have gone. Better, actually. Nobody is screaming and nothing’s on fire.”
“Yet,” Gannon says.
“See? There’s still hope.” They’ve been talking for so long that her wine is warm. She grimaces as she swallows. “Hey, captor? I think it’s time you took me to a secondary location.”
“That’s not funny.” Despite his words, Gannon’s lips twitch as he stands and pushes in his chair. “I’m really upset about that.”
Nadezh follows him to the door. She caresses his shoulder, ostensibly checking him for dust, but really needing the contact. “Should I comfort you?”
Gannon drops back to put his arm around her shoulders. “Hmmm, keep talking.”
“I think I have Stockholm syndrome—”
“I change my mind. No more talking.”
Nadezh laughs. “Riiiight.”
It’s not perfect. Nadezh knows that the conversation isn’t over. There’s a guardedness in Gannon she’s never seen before when talking about Hero Force. He doesn’t believe her, not yet. But that’s okay.
She’ll be around to convince him.
(Except for 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. She somehow doesn’t think Briston would take kindly to a hero responsible for flooding the docks every other week hanging around the office.)

Bill Dickey - Comic & Ego Extraordinaire
Welcome to the club, why not meet the president?
William “Bill” Alan Dickey [04/13/80] | [5'11.5 (that .5 is real Important*)] Secretary of Comics | President of the Eltingville Club AOL / Online Users: [greedo318] | [DarkxKnightx] Theme Songs: What’s My Age Again? - blink-182 | My Own Worst Enemy - Lit | Brutal - Negative 25 Favorite Shit: Stan Lee, The X-Men, Complete Runs, Signed Editions, The Joker, Emma Frost, The Batman, Alternate Earths, Variant Covers, Crossovers, Torrent Sites, Action Figures, Statues/Busts, Alex Ross, Bondage Covers, First Printings, Continuity, Cosplay Chicks, “Headlights”.
In the ripe year of 1999, Bill Dickey couldn't be any more... Tired? Annoyed? A lonely piece o' sh-- But that's fine, everything is fine, right guys? .... Guys? The fact he's managed to keep the club together is baffling at best (and all thanks to Jerry, and May.. er.. Mr. Osewai, actually), and completely unbelievable at worst, but he's still got his friends (kind of) and they still like him (eh..) He's a nice guy, honest, just.. don't turn on your brain.
Variants Under the Cut--
Oh Captain, My Captain
His @ greedo318 account got banned essentially in the first two weeks of him getting it on Messenger about a year back, as May and Pete helped Josh essentially spam report it when he started to harass Josh there too. Hence the new name that he actually uses.
Mrs. Dickey is still trying to force him to get a job, and while he has applied, he flops any and every interview he lands with his stupid need to be the loudest asshole in the room.
This man's ego is absolutely the size of the sun, it's almost immeasurable I assure you, HOWEVER--
Show him some ⋆。°✩spunk~✮⋆˙ show him you bark back just as harsh as him and he *might* just keep you around.
Someone please just get him a better acne face wash and a steady form of income that isn't his mother's paychecks bro please for the love of god--
He was actually one of the first in the group to get a car, but he never has money for gas so he like never drives it. It was a "gift from dad" according to his mom, but he doesn't believe her for a minute. (He's convinced she bought it for him to get him to move out.)
His mom watches Titanic every year on his birthday after 1997 and he HATES it to the point he has threatened to disconnect the breaker if she kept playing it at full volume.
He is still convinced that he has a shot with May (Despite her telling him repeatedly no) and is INSISTENT about it like a possessive little weirdo (news flash, he doesn't but he's delusional so it's fine)
^^ This absolutely pisses Pete off but he can't say shit cause he's a baby that won't ask her out so--
The night of the Destruction of Joe's Fantasy World, Mr. Osewai had tried to stop in and pick something up for May when he walked in on.. well, Dickey on fire. His paternal instincts kicked in and managed to help the kids and smooth some things over with the families (and.. may or may not have threatened to rip out Joe's tongue but like it's fine).
Dickey has a strong sense of gratitude for the guy, even if he expresses it in the WEIRDEST ways, 'cause at the end of the day the guy kind of saved his only group of friends from his own bullshit.
When he does eventually land a job, it's essentially a generic gas station attendant, but they let him read his comics on the job when he has to work nights so that's a plus?
Guh guys I hate this man so much can someone please explain why I have so much fun drawing him please please please--
also... this somethin' y'all want?

Since we’re on the subject of things being fake. This post?

Yeah. Fanfiction that has been derived from the truth. Its been going around since 2015 so idk who made it..But do not worry. It is I, the humble horsedylan here to offer you Horseumbine information and lead you on the right path so you can meet god!
Whenever one of my lovely and good natured mutuals reblogs this I get itchy. It’s a conflation of two events with some creative liberties. And it certainly didn’t happen a few months before the massacre. If anything we can place the tampon incident in junior year according to Brooks Brown (source: www.westword.com/news/the-missing-motive-5063685)
Incident Statement One.
We can simmer this event down to four sources; Here is one from Sue and Tom's police interview.
"Mr. Klebold said that Dylan was sheltered at his classes at Governor’s Ranch. The Klebold’s perspective in that Dylan seemed well adjusted. Mrs. Klebold then stated the only time she ever saw Dylan cry was once when he came home from school and went to his bedroom. Dylan then took a box of stuffed toys from the closet and buried himself and fell asleep underneath the stuffed toys. Mrs. Klebold said that she checked on what the problem was, however, Dylan would never tell her what had caused him to cry. The Klebolds indicated that they monitored everything about Dylan and Mr. Klebold said that based on his own experience, Dylan seemed normal. Mr. Klebold went on to state that he asked Dylan in the past if people were picking on him and Dylan would tell him no, and would point out that he was 6’4" so people wouldn’t pick on him, however, Dylan did indicate that people picked on Eric" this wasn't in high school!!! and she didn't ignore him!!!
Source: https://zanazl.tripod.com/Columbine/Suspects/DylanKlebold/Interview.html
Incident Statement Two.
This was taken from Andrew Solomon's book Far From the Tree;
"Unbeknownst to the Klebolds, Dylan had experienced significant humiliation at school, though he was six feet four and not easy to push around. He had come home one day with ketchup spots all over his shirt, and when his mother asked what had happened, he said he’d had the worst day of his life and didn’t want to talk about it. Months after his death, she learned of an incident in which Dylan and Eric had apparently been shoved and squirted with ketchup by kids calling them f*gs. “It hurt so much that I’d seen the remnants of that day and hadn’t helped him,” Sue Klebold said." (Page 590)
Dylan explicitly lied or shrugged things off each and every time she tried to help. I'm sorry but simply put, people can't help you if you buck it and obstruct them each and every time they ask you what's up.
Incident Statement Three.
This is also taken from the aforementioned Andrew Solomon book;
"Every year on Dylan’s birthday, Tom goes up to the place where the two used to hike and takes a Dr Pepper, because Dylan loved Dr. Pepper, and the stuffed koala that was Dylan’s childhood favorite" (Page 594)
Incident Four.
When he was in middle school, he had gone up to his room after a bad day. She went in to bring him some chocolate milk and he had been crying. She asked again, what happened. All he was willing to tell her was that some kids were mean to him.
Like people will complain about how some people take this shit too seriously ( and to an extent I get where you're coming from for sure.) and complain about the seriousness of infoposters but then go on to simultaneously complaining about Dave Cullen and the smear job he did on E. Like you acknowledge that if you aren’t careful you spread misinformation so..idk. Okay yeah its a tumblr post and not a book fair point but then why bother having info posts at all lol. Its one thing to make a mistake thats fine, I make mistakes with my infoposts ALLLL the time. and thats okay but spreading fanfiction and calling it fact is another matter.
I think one of the reasons why this annoyed me so much is that people have such a ridiculous hate boner for Sue that they just lie about her ignoring her son to make her look bad. Its cringe. She didn’t, she asked him so many times and Dylan lied to her constantly. Like I legitimately saw some of you fuckers going off about how you can’t wait for this VICTIM (and yes. She is a victim) to die explicitly because of this post. I’m gonna be doing a post about her in the coming weeks probably (I mean half of it is already written up) because holy moly.
I'm also gonna save this in a google doc or on obsidian just in case lol.
Edit: updated with page numbers.

Yasmin Porat, a survivor of the bloodshed at Kibbutz Be’eri, near the boundary with Gaza, says many Israeli civilians were killed by Israeli forces.
An Israeli woman who survived the Hamas assault on settlements near the Gaza boundary on 7 October says Israeli civilians were “undoubtedly” killed by their own security forces.
It happened when Israeli forces engaged in fierce gun battles with Palestinian fighters in Kibbutz Be’eri and fired indiscriminately at both the fighters and their Israeli prisoners.
“They eliminated everyone, including the hostages,” she told Israeli radio. “There was very, very heavy crossfire” and even tank shelling.
The woman, 44-year-old mother of three Yasmin Porat, said that prior to that, she and other civilians had been held by the Palestinians for several hours and treated “humanely.” She had fled the nearby “Nova” rave.
A recording of her interview, from the radio program Haboker Hazeh (“This Morning”) hosted by Aryeh Golan on state broadcaster Kan, has been circulating on social media.
Notably, the interview is not included in the online version of Haboker Hazeh for 15 October, the episode in which it apparently aired.
It may well have been censored due to its explosive nature.
Porat, who is from Kabri, a settlement near the Lebanese border, undoubtedly experienced terrible things and saw many noncombatants killed. Her own partner, Tal Katz, is among the dead.
However, her account undermines Israel’s official story of deliberate, wanton murder by the Palestinian fighters.
Although it no longer appears on the Kan website, there can be little doubt about the recording’s authenticity.
At least one Hebrew-language account posted part of the interview on Twitter, now officially called X, and accused Kan of functioning as “media in the service of Hamas.”
Porat also gave her account to the Israeli newspaper Maariv.
However, the Maariv story, published on 9 October, makes no specific mention of civilians being killed by Israeli forces.
And in a half-hour interview with Israel’s Channel 12 on Thursday, Porat speaks of intense gunfire after Israeli forces arrived. Porat herself received a bullet in the thigh.
Not only does Porat tell Kan that Israelis were killed in the heavy counterattack by Israeli security forces, but she says she and other captive civilians were well treated by the Palestinian fighters.
Porat had been attending the “Nova” rave when the Hamas assault began with missiles and motorized paragliders. She and her partner Tal Katz escaped by car to nearby Kibbutz Be’eri where many of the events she describes in her media interviews took place.
According to Porat speaking to Maariv, she and Katz initially sought refuge in the house of a couple called Adi and Hadas Dagan. After the Palestinian fighters found them they were all taken to another house, where eight people were already being held captive and one person was dead.
Porat said that the wife of the dead man “told us that when they [the Hamas fighters] tried to enter, the guy tried to prevent them from entering and grabbed the door. They shot at the door and he was killed. They did not execute them.”
“They did not abuse us. They treated us very humanely,” Porat explained to a surprised Golan in the Kan radio interview.
“By that I mean they guard us,” she said. “They give us something to drink here and there. When they see we are nervous they calm us down. It was very frightening but no one treated us violently. Luckily nothing happened to me like what I heard in the media.”
“They were very humane towards us,” Porat said in her Channel 12 interview. She recalled that one Palestinian fighter who spoke Hebrew, “told me, ‘Look at me well, were not going to kill you. We want to take you to Gaza. We are not going to kill you. So be calm, you’re not going to die.’ Thats what he told me, in those words.”
“I was calm because I knew nothing would happen to me,” she added.
“They told us that we would not die, that they wanted to take us to Gaza and that the next day they would return us to the border,” Porat told Maariv.
In the Channel 12 interview, Porat elaborates that although the Palestinian fighters all had loaded weapons, she never saw them shoot captives or threaten them with their guns.
In addition to providing the captives with drinking water, she said the fighters let them go outside to the lawn because it was hot, especially as the electricity was cut.

devil wears Prada part 1

Dark!lottie Matthews x reader x dark!shauna shipman x dark!jackie taylor x dark!natalie scatorcio
Businesswomen/devil wears Prada au
Devil wears Prada with a bit of a twist and a toxic love polygon
This is only loosely inspired by devil wears Prada so not gonna be the same storyline or anything but similar vibes
Literally don’t ask about the job roles cause I’m lowkey making this company up as I go along and cba to work out the logistics of this fake ass company
Readers getting a magical promotion next part so she’s gonna actually get to interact with the girls I swear (even if its lowkey fleeting)
Warnings:
Dark characters, power imbalance, toxic workplace, mental health problems, fat shaming, beauty standards, ect (more in later parts)
Matthew’s tower was certainly an impressive building. One of the tallest in the city and home to your dream job.
Ok maybe not your dream job. You didn’t really dream of working a front desk and fetching drinks for snooty big wigs who wouldn’t so much as learn your name. but it was the right path.
A year here, maybe even less, and you could get a job working anywhere you wanted. Maybe, just maybe, if you did well enough and didn’t completely hate it, you could continue at Mathews designs. With the right promotion of course.
It was terrifying really. Walking through the massive cold foyer. You felt like a tiny speck compared to the tall walls and wide room, and the walk to the other end of it felt like it took a million years. Each step your heeled feet took on the hard floors echoing around you.
An incredibly stylish looking woman greeted you when you finally reached the desk. In fact, all three of the young girls sat before you looked straight out of a fashion magazine.
Pretty, young and stick thin.
You’d tried to dress up for your interview. Youd worn one of your nicest formal dressed, though now it felt pretty frumpy looking. It was hard to wear something that seemed both appropriate, as well as up to the standards of the impressive company you were applying for. Especially given most of your work wear was plain and black, never needed to wear anything any more impressive.
You were also wearing your nicest heels, albeit they weren’t very worn in, and giving you blisters, having only ever left your wardrobe for a handful of weddings over the years.
“Um hiya, I’m here for an interview with miss Ibarra?” you told the blonde girl nervously, who looked up at you with complete disinterest in response.
She stared at you for a moment, before tapping away at her keyboard, leaving you to stand there, anxiously fidgeting, unsure what to do.
“Yes, she’s upstairs on the 15th level” she finally responded, looking back up at you, “I’ll tap you in, the elevators are down there, shell be waiting for you”
You blinked at her, gathering all the information before quickly realising you must look stupid just standing there, “oh of course thank you! Um…what room am I-“
“she’ll be at the front desk of the 15th floor” the woman interrupted, looking back to her computer now, obviously done with the conversation. She taps something and the sliding doors to the right of the desks slide open for you.
You rush over to them, shooting her another ‘thank you’ as you hurry through them, eager to get upstairs and into the interview before you throw up from nerves.
You had only spoken to Miss Ibarra over the phone once, as well as a handful of emails. Marianna Ibarra was the head of so and so at the company. And, if you got the job, would likely be your immediate boss.
She seemed quit intimidating, according to your google search and quick social media stalk (of which you did for most of the important people in the company that you were likely to be working with) you had found out she was 26, and freshly engaged.
Most of the people you had googled from the company were quite young for their job roles. The CEO, Lottie Matthews was 27, though her young age made sense, given her father owned the company.
The other however, were around the same ages, and all seemed to be quite close to the Matthews woman. A lot of them going to the same fancy universities
and colleges you couldn’t even dream of attending.
There was Jackie taylor who had known the Mathews since childhood, having grown up in a lot of similar rich people circles. Then there was Shauna shipman, who had known Jackie for years, who was clearly who later introduced the pair, getting her a job working in the company.
Finally, there was Natalie scatorccio. The most unlikely of the 4. While Lottie and Jackie grew up in privilege and the three of them attended fancy universities. Natalie scatorcio, as far as you could find, grew up completely differently.
You were curious how she ended up where she was now. Of course, you don’t have to go to posh schools and have rich friends to end up with a nice job. But to do so, so young, being 27 like the others, well that was certainly impressive.
When you finally reached the 15th floor, you held your breath, greeted immediately by a beautiful noirette woman as the elevator doors opened.
“Miss y/l/n?” she asked straight away, not allowing you to so much as step out the elevator doors before she spoke up.
“Oh um, y-yes hi I’m y/n” you stuttered out, stepping forward to shake her hand as she offered you a polite smile, her face then quickly returning to one of neutrality.
“I’m Mariana Ibarra, you can call me Mari” she says simply, gesturing her hand towards one of the hallways after your hands separated, “if you’ll follow me, we can have a chat in my office and then I can give you a short tour”
You quickly follow after her, trying desperately to breath calmly and keep your cool.
“Please…have a seat” the woman told you calmly, gesturing to one of the chairs opposite her own as she walked towards it.
“As you know miss y/l/n, we’re down the last two candidates for the job position, you and another girl.” She started as you listened intently, picking at your nails under the desk, “I’m going to be honest with you, she’s far more experienced…”
Your heart dropped.
“However, I must say I think you might be a better…fit” she continued.
She must have sensed your confusion at her words, taking in your furrowed brows and heads slight tilt. You suppose you were happy she thought you were a better fit, but her words were confusing.
“Can I be honest with you miss y/l/n?” she asks.
“Yes of course…” you agree, somewhat hesitantly.
“The other candidate, she was lovely…she’s been working office jobs half her life and only had to stop at her previous job to help her husband recover from a hip replacement” Mari told you, “She’s got plenty of experience, hell she’s got more experience than half the girls that work here right now.”
“But you see, were a fashion company” she states simply, bluntly continuing, “and the other candidate…well she’s nearly 60 and can barely fit into any of the clothes we make, shed stand out like a sore thumb, she’s not the kind of woman we hire here…”
Your eyes widened at her words, not expecting her to be so blunt, and certainly not this rude about another applicant to your face.
“I don’t mean to be harsh but looks matter here” she speaks, not letting you have too long to think over her words, “you’re pretty and young, the higher ups would love you and while you’re not as experienced as Mrs smith, I think you’ll do well enough at the job”
You should probably be more alarmed by what she was telling you than you were if you truly thought it all through, but as you sat in the office you couldn’t stop a small smile come to your lips.
“Thank you?” you told her after a pause, though it came out more a question.
She ignored your words, choosing instead to give you a critical once over, making you blush at her grimace.
“However, I must be frank with you miss y/l/n, if I was to give you the position here at Matthews designs, you’d need to…dress the part so to speak” she told me, voice never wavering, “a pretty face is nice enough but we’re a fashion company, and those…clothes, they won’t cut it”
You didn’t think your face could get any redder after she said that…
Despite your embarrassment, you nodded quickly, “of course, I’d be more than happy to dress however the company requires”
“good” the older woman responded finally with a quick smile, “well then I’d love to offer you the position”
You couldn’t stop thew wide smile from donning your face. You were sure she probably thought you looked ridiculous, getting so excited over a job as a glorified runner, but you simply couldn’t help it.
“Oh, thank you so much!” you said happily.
“Shall we?” she spoke, standing up from her desk and practically ignoring your words, walking towards the door and leaving you to rush after her.
this has not been proof read fair warning

After the exciting start of a new Garden arc last time, today's new chapter did not disappoint either! First thing I noticed upon reading is - Yor's new outfit! (though you're not being very discreet with that "Garden" badge 😅)

Also that little lemur guy in the upper left of the panel is like "Wtf?!" I would think that too if a person suddenly leaped onto the tree branch next to me 🤣 (you can see him scurrying away in the next panel underneath...nice little detail from Endo there.)
Before I get into specifics of this chapter, I wanted to analyze the exchange between Yor and Hemlock in the jeep - namely, the Hemlock/Nightfall parallel, with Hemlock accusing Yor of losing her edge due to "playing house" for too long, which is exactly what Nightfall said to Twilight when she first appeared.

This made me think of an interview with Endo that was shared in the recent iterations of the SxF exhibition that's going on in Japan: when asked which character has changed the most in the series so far, he said Yor while also mentioning that Loid has barely changed. And I can see why that's the case with how Yor responded to Hemlock. Her experience during the cruise arc made her understand her own development - that now more than ever she wants to continue her work because she has more people she desires to protect.

She actually recognizes her own change and embraces it, while Loid...still hasn't gotten there yet. If we compare this exchange between Yor and Hemlock with the one between Loid and Nightfall, Loid clearly doesn't have this same self recognition about how living with the Forgers has changed him. He either genuinely doesn't know or he's in denial, which is why Nightfall is the one who points it out, and even when she tells him, he doesn't have a response.

One could argue that this may have been the case in old chapters, but ever since the mole hunt arc, he has recognized himself how he's changed. I do agree that the mole hunt arc made him realize that he's "softening" in a way, but he sees this as a detriment more than anything else. Unlike Yor who sees how her love for the Forgers has made her stronger, Loid sees it as something that will make him weaker rather than fuel his resolve.

We haven't seen much of Loid's deep inner thoughts since the end of the mole hunt arc, so only time will tell if he'll start to see his own development as something to be accepted rather than pushed away (just a note that I don't have a specific link for this part of the interview, but Fasionnessutsu shared screenshots of it in a thread here).
But anyway, back to other thoughts about this chapter, it was no surprise that even though Yor and McMahon changed into these safari-looking outfits, Hemlock is still wearing his suit. Why am I not surprised someone like him would totally refuse to wear that? 😂

And omg, the fact that Yor is still hung up about the "welcome home" kiss 😂 The fact that she's so earnest about it all this time later means...something, lol.

Also McMahon having a wife...it was kind of vague here but I wonder if she knows about his undercover work? Probably not, but would be interesting to see how much of his marital situation mirrors Yor's.
We apparently got another minor character introduced in this chapter - McMahon's pet falcon (and scouting assistant) Keekee.

In the Japanese version he calls her "Kiki-chan," with "kiki" being the sound she makes. It's nothing big, but I just found it amusing that a stoic, no-nonsense guy like McMahon calls his pet bird "-chan" 😅

The flower that Damian and company found has returned! I mentioned in my last chapter post that it may have some connection to Anya's past - we'll see!

This chapter ends on quite the cliffhanger, with Hemlock attacking Yor because, according to him, she's an impediment to his work and he's allowed to get rid of such impediments. We've already seen several examples of how quick to kill he is. Compared to Yor who tries her best to only kill "bad guys," Hemlock's first notion for anything in his way is to kill, whether it's the deer he's supposed to protect, or a fellow assassin he thinks is dragging him down.

Again, there's parallels that can be drawn between him and Nightfall, but unlike Nightfall whose obsession is fueled by idolizing Twilight, Hemlock's obsession seems to be fueled by animosity for Yor. Where that animosity came from is something we'll hopefully see in upcoming chapters. My theory is that, at some point, Hemlock idolized Yor and is now upset that she seems to have "softened," or he's always been jealous of her and now is even more enraged that she's not taking her job seriously anymore. Whatever the case is, I look forward to seeing how it plays out 👀

Defending the quiet
Pairing : bestfriend!seungcheol / student! seungcheol x student!reader /bestfriend!reader
Summary : he couldn't stand up for himself , so you did it instead .
Genre : fluff
Warnings : bullying , seungcheol being insecure about his belly ( people need to seek help fr )
A/n : since btches can't shut up about coups' cute little belly , here's what I would do if they bullied him in front of me . Also this is kinda inspired by the Bollywood movie " dunki " I've been crying since I watched it :( . The song is from the movie when she was the first person to defend him and he instantly fell in love🫠 . Ok I'll shut up now , enjoy !
At such a young age , seungcheol was miles away from anyone at his age . When they worried about exams and midterms , seungcheol was flying interviews and photoshoots with famous brands . Of course he was popular at school , all eyes were on him every time he enters a classroom . He never liked this spotlight , and wished people would treat him like a normal person . And he found that wish in you , his best friend of almost 10 years now . You never cared about his fame or his growing audience . to you , he was just cheol . The person you would share your snacks with in 3rd grade , the person who would laugh at your jokes no matter how cringe or awful they are .
But in his last comeback , things took an awful turn . Sure , the song was fantastic , multiple days at number one , international awards , millions of streams and still counting . The album wasn't the problem . The problem is that some insecure imbeciles had a lot of things to say about seungcheol's belly . According to them , he was fat or whatever . But in reality , his belly looked completely normal . His picture spread really fast , and even people from the school saw it , and now , everyone is talking about it . That made you really frustrated , and you noticed a lot of changes in seungcheol's mood . You tried to hype him up like you usually do , crack a few jokes , buy him ice cream which he refused to eat saying he's on a diet . But nothing worked , so you gave up , but always stayed by his side just in case he needed someone to talk to .
The next day , you were sitting next to seungcheol during break . You and some other students decided to stay in the classroom . Seungcheol didn't talk much , but you yapped anyway , because you know he's listening . Suddenly , a group of classmates approached you two . And with an ugly , mocking voice he said :
" hey seungcheol , didn't take you a six pack to be rich and famous , huh ? "
He laughed even louder while another one added
" I guess money can buy success , just not a gym membership "
They continued mocking him like he doesn't have feelings . You thought he would stand up for himself . How could he not , right ? He always defended you when people mocked you . But to your surprise , he stayed silent , head looking at the floor , barely blinking . Then , something inside you snapped .
“ And who do you think you are to talk to him like that ?” your voice cut through the room silencing every person who was whispering and gossiping about him . “ Just shut up. You think you’re better than him when you obviously look like that ? He’s out there changing lives with his music and talent while you sit in the same chair every day , rotting in your own arrogance . You would quit after one bad day if you were in his shoes . "
You answered without hesitation , your eyes blazing with a fire no one can take down . Every word came out sharp, fueled by pure loyalty and frustration you had held inside for too long. Your voice cut through the classroom , turning the mockery back on them with the weight of truth . Seungcheol looked surprised at your action . He never saw you this mad , he couldn't even say a word to calm you down , he just looked at you with pure shock in his eyes , with a tight feeling in his chest he couldn't quite understand . And what caught him completely off guard was the moment you gently grabbed his wrist, your voice soft as a whisper, urging him to get up , before leading him quietly out of the classroom , leaving everyone stunned by your action . In that instant , A sudden warmth grew in seungcheol's chest , steady and impossible to ignore . It wasn’t just your touch or voice , it was how nobody has stood up for him before . Usually , people leave him when things get hard , but you didn't. You were the first person to be there and stand up for him when no one else did . In that moment, his heart sped up, and he realized he had fallen head first , in love with you .
Getting into longer fics these days , I might write a part two~

☼ always and forever (Finnick Odair) ☼
summary; you’ve had your eyes set on this boy for as long as you can remember. it isn’t until you begin to slip through his fingers, does he realize he loves you more.
warnings; swearing, seemingly one sided love, kinda prostitution mention.
wc; 2.1k
--
To you, there is nothing more painful than having feelings for a boy and waiting years for him to like you back.
Finnick Odair has been your best friend since you were young teenagers. You met him the year after he won the Hunger Games, when the district forced him back into school for at least another two years. Usually, when someone wins the Games, they’re exempt from schooling, but since he was only fourteen, the mayor pushed for him to get two more years.
His parents approved of the idea, and against his will, he was placed back into a classroom with his peers. It was difficult for Finnick to go back to a normal environment after suffering in an arena for almost three weeks. Everyone could see this, which is why they tried to accommodate him and the newfound attitude he had.
The tough exterior was an act, it was pretty obvious to you. While you hadn’t been friends before he was reaped, you’d still been around him quite a lot. You shared the same classes and went to lunch around the same time. Finnick was the light of the room before, not the dampener he’d turned into.
You couldn’t blame him, you think you would’ve gone crazy if you were in his shoes. The way the people around him steered a wide path, and if they didn’t, it was like they were walking on eggshells every time they had a conversation with him. How did they expect him to return to normalcy if they didn’t treat him the same way they did before?
He couldn’t, and he wouldn’t have, if you hadn’t been assigned project partners your sophomore year in your history class. The first couple of days you worked together, Finnick seemed distant, he wasn’t very interested in having conversations with you unless it was to swap information.
As the days went on, he realized you didn’t mind what happened to him. Or, at least, you didn’t hold it against him in some weird way. And while there were moments where you didn’t know what to say and were afraid to bring up the Games, it didn’t really affect him.
He didn’t mind, not when it came to you and your curiosity. You would talk to him about almost anything that came to mind. You got to know him. You found out he was learning to surf in his freetime, he said the waves allowed him to clear his head. He hated doing it in the morning, but liked the way it gave him a fresh start to the day.
He told you he likes it better in Victor’s Village than he does in his childhood home, and it had something to do with the space. Finnick could hide away in his room and even the loudest of his siblings wouldn’t be able to disturb him. He likes the quiet, especially after the Games.
He liked to talk about the Capitol, but only on his own accord. He told you what it was like to step foot on the train and how luxurious it was with the velvet and the large private bedrooms. The seven course meal with foods you could never imagine tasting in your wildest dreams. There were expensive fruits and vegetables and drinks and delicacies that he couldn’t put a name to, even if he tried.
Finnick said every strand of hair on his body was ripped off, besides what was on his head. You saw him dressed up at the Tribute Parade of course, and the preparation for it was straight out of his nightmares. He told you how odd it was to be around the other tributes, knowing what would happen in just a few days.
He didn’t give you details beyond that point. You already saw his score, and guessed he had to be fairly talented to get himself a nine. And the whole interview was televised, Finnick tried his best to be personable on stage. Caesar helped out a lot though, Finnick always gives him credit for boosting his popularity.
It got to the point where every time you stepped foot into the classroom, Finnick would sit up when he saw you. He enjoyed your company—looked forward to it, even. And when the end of the project came around, he told you he wanted to hang out with you outside of class. Whether that be at the docks or either of your houses.
You couldn’t say no, Finnick was fun to be around. By the time the two of you turned sixteen, you’d fully formed a friendship no one could come between. And for you, a one-sided love.
You were convinced his feelings about you would change over time and he would want you as more than just his friend. It’s becoming clear that time is never going to come, you have to move on from the situation, even though you’re far from ready to.
You’ve liked him—loved him—for almost nine years now.
Part of this is your fault, you know it. You’ve had nearly a decade to tell him how you feel, but you didn’t know how to tell him after so long. Should you just come out and say it? Do you bring him somewhere private first? How do you approach such a sensitive subject?
You never knew if it was ever the right time to mention it, either. With everything that goes on in the Capitol with him, he always seems to shut down the idea of being in a relationship. You know why, he’s told you in explicit detail what they do to him. Which is why you thought it would be too selfish, too gross, to tell him you feel the same way about him as they do.
So, you’ve kept quiet about your feelings, settling for sending him messages without words. You bake his favorite foods, you buy him clothes you think he’ll look good in, you take time to compliment him and include him in everything you do. Which are things you do, anyway, but you’ve taken it to another step in hopes it’ll catch his attention.
Well, it hasn’t. Your efforts these past few months have done nothing besides make you realize that you can’t do this forever with him. You’ve already spent a good number of years waiting. If he doesn’t want you, that’s fine, you won’t hold it against him, but you’re not going to sit around anymore.
Which is easier said than done. You do practically everything with Finnick, there’s not a moment in the day where you two are away from one another. You’ll sit at each other’s houses, you’ll run errands around the district, you’ll visit Mags and Annie, you’ll sit by the docks.
The only time you’re not with him is when you’re working, and that’s because he needs time to work, too. It’s usually the most miserable hours of your life, sitting in a clothing store with no customers. You’d find yourself doodling on a piece of paper, designing clothes you don’t have the talent to sew, yourself.
The past three weeks have felt more like a punishment for you than it is for him. If you’re not at home, reading and tidying up, then you’re working. You’ve picked up more hours in hopes you’ll stay distracted with busy hands. It’s not working, not that you truly believed it would.
You’ve volunteered for a number of community projects, mostly simple stuff. You follow an assistant of the mayor around town with a group of people while she tells you what needs to be done. You repair cracked walls, paint faded buildings, plant flowers and trees and bushes in places that look bare.
That part is nice, making the district look better. But as soon as the clock strikes six, you’re back to being alone. You have to find ways to keep yourself entertained that don't include your best friend. Who you’ve been trying to demote, also.
You have a few childhood friends that you’ve reconnected with, they fill Finnick’s spot a lot better than you thought they would. They’re new and refreshing, which makes for unpredictable conversations and different experiences. They’ve pulled you so far out of your comfort zone, you don’t think you’ll ever go back.
They make it easy to form new habits.
You stop at the entrance of your neighborhood, staring blankly at the gravel road ahead of you. You wish you were even half as rich as some of the people in District Four. The families on the better side are able to afford cars, making travel easier from home to work or even the train station. You’d give almost anything to not have to walk an hour in the heat everyday.
Still, you drag your feet home. It’s not that far down the road, you’re just tired of walking, is all. As soon as your house is in sight, it’s like your legs want to give up on you.
You stick your key in the door, twisting the knob and using your bodyweight to push against the wood. It’s an old house, there’s a lot that needs to be updated. The floors have become uneven after all these years, which makes the door scrape against them whenever you come home or leave.
The good news is a groove is being worked into the wood, so it won’t be long before the door has its own perfect path to open and close.
You step inside the house, reaching down to pull the shoes off your feet. There’s an uneasy feeling in your stomach, warning you to check out your surroundings. Your eyes flicker up, and land right on the man you’ve been avoiding these past couple weeks.
Finnick is standing in your hallway, wearing a white linen shirt you bought for him last summer. It was right around the time he was complaining about being cold on the beach in the mornings. He wanted something that wouldn’t be too heavy, so you bought him the shirt since it’s long-sleeved and thin.
Speaking of the beach, he must’ve just come from it, because his hair is stuck to his forehead and dripping. Where did he put his surfboard? Did you miss it on your way in?
“Hey, Finnick.” You murmur, pulling your other shoe off. You toss it in the corner behind the door. “I wasn’t expecting you to stop by.”
“I haven’t seen you in almost a week.” He says, tone on the verge of accusatory.
A wave of guilt washes over you. You know, you’ve been blowing him off every time he’s tried to make plans with you. “I’ve been busy with work and friends.”
“Your schedule never used to look like this.”
“I needed a change of scenery.” You tell him.
Finnick nods, turning around to walk to your living room. You lift your bag, placing it on one of the hooks on the wall, following after him. As you get closer, you begin to see an array of colors. It isn’t until he steps out of the way, are you able to get a full view of what he’s laid out in your house.
Flowers, vases upon vases of them, covering almost every surface. In between them are gifts, chocolates and jewelry. Your face twists, lips parting as you look at Finnick. “What is all of this?”
“It’s an apology.”
“An apology for what?” You ask, fingers brushing over petals. “This is crazy.”
“For not seeing it sooner.” Finnick says. “I didn’t realize—” He shakes his head, eyes falling to the ground. “I didn’t know. I was so used to you being close to me that I didn’t know what I was missing until you were gone.”
“Finnick—”
“Mags had to tell me, she saw it before I did.” Finnick lifts his shoulders and then drops them. “I just don’t understand why you didn’t say anything?”
You press your lips together, shaking your head. “How could I when you told me you could never see yourself in a relationship?”
Finnick’s face falls. “I didn’t mean you.”
“You just said you didn’t know—”
“No—no I knew I had feelings for you. I didn’t realize the extent of it, not until you were gone and I was missing your voice, your touch, your presence.” He sighs. “All of it was gone at once and I was forced to live without it. And I can’t, I don’t want to.”
You shake your head. “So?”
Finnick motions to the flowers around him. “This is more than just an apology, it’s also a proposal.”
Your face scrunches up, “What?”
“Will you be my girlfriend, (Y/n)?”
