rewatching mass in time of war and the whole shiv-kendall interaction where they're arguing over whether she knew about cruises and she's like i never got in the pool with any of those creeps and he's like yeah because dad let a gang of creeps run cruises and she's like no kendall because i was fifteen is just so. like interesting to me. it feels like one of very few direct, in-your-face reminders that shiv was both the only girl with three brothers but it wasn't just her brothers, she was a girl SURROUNDED by mainly men for most of her girlhood. and i think for all of kendall's posturing in that scene and his maybe-partly-authentic interest in dismantling the sexist abuse in waystar he has probably not considered that his only sister had an entirely different set of experiences considering he thinks a fifteen year old girl not getting in the pool with a bunch of grown men must mean she knew that those men were involved in large-scale sex crimes,,, and like whether she or any of them knew or not as children is a different conversation but i just think that scene is interesting from the perspective of like. we hear so little about their childhoods and it feels like a glimpse into the isolation of a girlhood without a present mother or sisters or anyone to guide you or contextualize your experiences. materially you have everything you could ever want but still you are profoundly alone

i don’t remember off the top of my head who it was but a few weeks ago someone mentioned the idea of orpheus!art which feels like a very you-coded concept…. idk if you’ve ever listened to hadestown but donal finn’s version of wait for me is soooo orpheus!art to me… the desperation and yearning in his voice OOOUGGGH screaming crying throwing up

The way he increases volume as he sings, the developing rasp as the song goes on, the growing desperation!!! It all adds to this all-consuming sense of yearning for something he may not be able to reach, it is all so Art!

Orpheus! Art who is innately passionate and optimistic, always radiating with his own sense of charm.

Orpheus! Art who falls in love with you at first sight, not even a second thought. One look and he knows he’s gone.

Orpheus! Art who would do anything for you if he could. Only really wanting a peaceful life with you by his side. He may not have everything you need, but he will try.

Orpheus! Art who doesn’t think twice about going to find you once he realizes you’re gone. It’s not even a question in his mind. He loves you more than himself anyway.

Orpheus! Art who finds you. Who fights for you. Who does everything right that you can nearly taste a peaceful life with him again.

And Orpheus! Art who was so close. So very close. You can’t blame him tho, he loves you. Why wouldn’t he turn back?

Reverse Robins AU but the adoption order stays the same

Bruce had been Batman for around 2 decades when he witnessed the Graysons fall. He takes in little 8-year-old Dick Grayson and they become Batman & Robin a couple of months later.

Jason still tried to steal the Batmobile’s tires, but this time Dick is there with Bruce. And Dick immediately goes: friend?! Because who’s cooler than an older boy who has the audacity to steal your dad’s crime-fighting tires? Bruce doesn’t immediately take him in but he does adopt him soon after nonetheless. A year later, Batman gains a new sidekick partner.

Tim still puts together the Bats’ IDs by recognizing Robin’s quadruple somersault. He keeps this info to himself but his father’s death breaks something in him and he becomes reckless and directionless. He’s saved by one of the Bats, maybe little 11 year old Robin, and he just blurts out his name. He tells him how he was at the Graysons’ last show, how he and his parents were such huge fans. Bruce shows up but it’s too late, Dick’s already attached to his new big brother.

This teenager is obviously a threat, he knows their secret identities, but Bruce can see a bit of himself in the lost young man in front of him. He’s around the same age he was when he made the choice that changed his life forever. And having two young boys in his life, two young heroes, he can’t help but want to help Tim. It doesn’t hurt that the kid’s obviously smart and in good shape. A year later, Batman gains another partner.

Damian was never sent to Bruce, he stayed with the League. Eventually, he and Talia killed Ra’s. He becomes Talia’s right-hand but he doesn’t want it. He’s so disinterested in his own life and Talia, for all her flaws, loves her son. She tells him to leave, to “find himself or whatever it is young people do” and so Damian does. He leaves Nanda Parbat at ~18 and travels.

Damian has many skills, but he feels he’s best at killing people, so it doesn’t take long for him to take up contracts. Traveling’s fun and all but he grew restless. He does this for years, he makes a name for himself outside of being an Al’Ghul. And he’s visited Gotham, of course he has, but he doesn’t long for Bruce’s approval. He isn’t a child, he isn’t good person, and he isn’t a Wayne. Bruce means nothing to him, not really he doesn’t think Bruce would ever want him.

So, he keeps an ear out for news regarding the Bats. He visits Gotham every time he learns of a new child but he never allows himself to be noticed. One day, he hears whispers of the Wayne children being in Ethiopia of all places and he can’t help but seek them out. He gets there in time to put the Joker down permanently and prevent any lasting damage to any of them. They’re all taken by this mysterious savior to varying degrees (Tim’s the most cautious), but Dick is especially enthusiastic.

They manage to distract Damian long time enough for Bruce to get there. The long await meeting occurs and Damian decides fuck it, might as well let his father know about him. Bruce has more than enough children to fuss over and he’s an adult with his own life completely separate from Bruce, no need to make a big deal out of it. It is a big deal and Bruce is in shock and infuriated and heartbroken about his very much adult son being kept from him all this time.

As much as Bruce begs, Damian doesn’t go back to Gotham with them. Regardless, he keeps up his occasional visits and stays out of sight. Surprisingly, or maybe not, Dick is the first to find him out. And Dick, amazing human bean that he is, grows on Damian with time and interactions. He’s impressed by this child his father took in and he can’t help but want to teach him a few moves. Bruce wasn’t as oblivious to these meetings as he made himself seem, but he knows Damian isn’t interested in Bruce being his father. He’s hoping he can bridge this gap between them with Dick.

It works.

Ash and Jotaro

Ash moves out to Florida for a wetlands ecology graduate program, meeting Jotaro during the lowest points in both of their lives. It doesn't take long before Ash realizes that there is more to Jotaro than he's letting on. The pair maintain a distant but passionate relationship as Ash is drawn further and further into Jotaro's life and the lives of Stand users.

Everybody Lives AU where Ash is with both of their future partners from 'canon'. The three start a messy but oddly sweet family together, having two kids and working as professors. All of them have to reconcile with their personal issues in order to maintain their lifestyles.

Ash and Noi

Ash is a human scientist who masquerades as a sorcerer in order to study them closely, wanting to invent a method to produce magic without the need for magicians or devils. When they meet Noi, they are intimidated by her, but can't help but grow closer with her as they study each other. They end up irrevocably intertwined with the rest of the En family.

Abel and Ermes (SBR AU)

Abel is down on his luck, trying to make a more honest living by working on a horse ranch owned by Ermes' father. He secretly lives with a curse he inherited from his father, seeking a way to rid himself of it without passing it on. When the ranch threatened financially, the pair join the Steel Ball Run, both with their own hidden ulterior motives for joining.

Altis and Polyphemus

Altis has taken up a life of crime, becoming a thrill seeker due to a curse that has deprived them of sensual pleasure. During a heist gone wrong, they are caught by the cyclops Polyphemus and offers to work in exchange for their own life. In an odd twist of fate, the two relate to each other more than anticipated, both ostracized by their peers after being deceived by someone else.

Cinnabar and Jasper

During the height of the rebellion on the Earth colony, Cinnabar acted as a scourge, Jasper an unstoppable soldier. Now, after the reign of the Diamonds has entered its third Era, the two must seek out new, more peaceful lives. Cinna takes an interest in human culture, making her own transition into Era 3 far more graceful than Jasper's who is still stuck in the past.

I feel like the thing about feminism that people need to understand is that as a woman it's okay to see another woman doing something that you feel uncomfortable with or feel is bad for women as a whole and say, "hey, i don't like this. she's not setting a good example" WITH the understanding that she should still absolutely have the freedom to do that thing (assuming it isn't outright heinous) and be protected and valued as a human being. I don't always agree with every woman's takes or behaviors but I am never going to insist that she deserves "what comes to her" or talk about her as if she is not a human being with free and independent will. Feminism means women get to make choices for themselves. And sometimes women are going to make backwards or questionable choices because women are human beings. But we have to respect and defend our right to make bad decisions without severe condemnation or else someday we might lose the freedom to even have these conversations.
