Malleus Facts Part 27: Prefect (pt1)

Malleus and the prefect meet for the first time in Book 2, where Malleus visits Ramshackle under the impression that it was still abandoned.

While looking displeased that he has lost his “place where (he) could go to enjoy the peace of solitude,” he seems amused by the prefect not knowing who he is, saying that it is for their own benefit and permitting them to call him by a name of their choosing. (“Although you may one day regret it…”)

Malleus says that he will need to find other ruins for his next “nocturnal constitutional."

This is mentioned in a birthday vignette where we learn that, since the prefect appeared, Malleus been going to Ramshackle less often as it has become “unusually lively.”

Grim then names Malleus “Hornton.”

They meet for the second time in Book 3, where Malleus hears his nickname for the first time and refers to the prefect as “fearless" (and he is not the only person to do so, re: Crowley)

When Malleus learns about the deal that the prefect has made with Azul he responds, “Then once the sun sets tomorrow, I suppose this place will belong to him,” looking amused by the idea that the Prefect doesn’t like him speaking as those their loss is a given.

Malleus encourages them to fight for their dorm, saying that they are quite the schemer for as doe-eyed as they may appear. The prefect thanks him for a hint he provided about gargoyles but he says he was not trying to offer some cryptic clue.

Malleus says, “Ashengrotto’s calm features contorting in frustration must have been quite the sight. Mm..would that I could have been a fly on the wall.”

Whenever I think of the AU where all the Yuus come together or live together, I think of that one scene in Wreck it Ralph 2 where Vanellope has to prove to the other princesses that she is a princess too. Like whenever a new Yuu comes along, the other Yuus administer a Yuu test.

The way he smiled, the way his fingers brushed up against his own.. oh how he loved this feeling.

Malleus had a smile every time he glanced at (y/n), he was the man in his dreams-- a dream come true.

(y/n) turned to the side and smirked at Malleus. "Morning to you too, hornton!"

Ah...there was that smile..

Malleus gave a slight smile, "Good morning, (y/n)"

(y/n) had a slight scoff and playfully pouted

"I thought we promised to call me (n/n)! Hornton!"

Ah.. yeah..

"I...forgot, sorry.. (n/n)" Malleus had a faint blush as he looked away.

(y/n) chuckled a little which made malleus flinch for a while.

Before Malleus could do anything else, the teacher came in and told everyone to go to a certain chapter.

Malleus had forgotten to ask (y/n) to come eat with him, he went to the rooftop and couldn't find the (taller/shorter) man.

Where could he be...?

He then walked to the cafeteria and heard laughter from two certain individuals.

...there it is again, the way (y/n) looked at Leona lovingly.. it was disgusting. The way the lion-like man nuzzled against him... It was utterly disgusting.

Malleus stared at the two longingly, hoping that (y/n) can understand what he's hinting.

(y/n) noticed him and waved at him, as a sign to come eat with them.

Malleus begrudgingly walked there and it turned awkward.

Malleus stared at Leona-- and Leona did the same.

Man.. this was getting awkward, (y/n) tried to struck up a conversation.

"s-so...uhm..did you do your homework?"

The two then answered at the same time-- only to glare at eachother again.

When it finally turned night time, (y/n) went out to their usual spot.

As always, he saw malleus sitting at the bench-- with a flower at hand.

"Hornton!" (y/n) shouted as he ran to his best friend.

Malleus's expression enlightened as he looked up to see his future man-- ahem.. friend.

"(n/n), good to see you tonight" malleus had a smile as he stood up.

The two were standing close to the fountain, the birds were chirping-- it was the perfect time to confess.

"(n/n)-- no, (y/n) .. I've taken a liking to you ever since you stumbled in this place. I love you, will you reciprocate my love?" Malleus had a big smile on him as he gave (y/n) the bouquet of roses he picked.

"Malleus..."

Is (y/n) gonna confess? Malleus was sure he woul---

"I'm sorry .."

Malleus 's eyes widened as (y/n) didn't take the bouquet and looked away from his eyes instead.

....ahaha, what a funny joke. He was sure that (y/n) liked him too-- right? ....right?

He stumbled behind a little but then chuckled

"I was merely joking, you're my best friend-- and I love you...platonically"

"oh!"

(y/n) had an embarrassed blush as he took the bouquet and nervously smiled.

It hurt his heart, alot.

"what? You thought I liked you, (n/n)?"

"pretty much yeah, it looked convincing. You should be an actor, hornton!" (Y/n) replied as he chuckled at Malleus.

At this point, malleus had his heart shattered. Who could (y/n) like other than him?

"(y/n), as a friend.. I should be able to know this. Who do you love?" Malleus asked immediately, his tone a little sad.

"oh? I love Leona! He's a nice guy and----"

Malleus didn't dare hear the other words.. why Leona? Why him? He would be happy for (y/n) if he picked anyone else but Leona

Malleus tried to keep his cool and bowed at his friend.

"it's getting late, I'm going back to my dorm."

There it is again, the cheerful smile.

hi. i posted my fankids earlier so now welcome to cereals caterella multiverse chart kjlfdsjklfjs click for better view but also my handwriting sucks and i made this in like 2022ish in the privacy of discord dms so ill do my BEST to retype all the words and explain under the cut as much as i can/remember LET'S GOOOO

god where to even start. hi. ummm ok so caterella, for general context, is something i'd see around occasionally in people's fanarts/theories/aus/etc of cater being in a cinderella role, i think inspired by him talking about how he has 2 older sisters that are kinda bossy.

over time i went into the madness. and i cannot commit to one idea so i just have Several and this was my attempt to "organize" lol. cater is the protagonist in all of them, and not everyone is a love interest, it all DEPENDS!

oh i also wrote in the bottom right corner: * they can all be in standard au [i think i meant like, canon compliant lol] but some are specifically here w/one specific story involved (????) (IDK LOL)

i always have to explain why i keep calling trey "that guy" lol. it's cuz in the original jpn twst, during the scalding sands visit event, when cater was announcing he invited trey to come, the fan translation said cater was saying something like "and who's caykuns mystery guest? it's THAT GUY!" and then trey appeared or something lfdskf i dont remember exactly but i know he was called That Guy and so my friend and i were calling trey That Guy for sooooo long.

ok so i think what i was trying to say for the most part is that trey is a friends to lovers surprise love interest in scenarios where the main plot makes you THINK the love interest is a fancy prince, hence the "red herring prince" comments. i have a google doc that mentions this that ill copy/paste after i get through each person's general primer but for now let's move on!

eppa. ummm. when i was trying to come up with char's name, one of the possibilities was eppa. but my friend came up w/the idea i think of idia having like a fake rsa prince persona that cater falls for, instead of char being a real guy [i split the aus instead lol] and that inspired me to write a little bit based on that idea. i explain it a bit and also posted the [unfinished] story chunks in THIS POST. it would eventually have a happy ending i just didnt intend to write the whole thing so it ends a bit awkwardly here LOL i only wrote a little bit

Something something cater wants to go to a party / ball / whatever held by Leona’s family or something. idk what type of universe this AU is exactly but shhh details whatever. It’s a fancy party with attractive people and cater wants magicam pics!!! Maybe also 2 find a prince to fill the lonely void in his heart lol, and Leona is the red herring prince that caters like “omg he’s dreamy maybe He’s The One”

Vil is there for some reason. Maybe he has an invitation as a celebrity guest and cater is begging him to let him in as a plus one? Vil says no and warns him not to try and get in bc guys like Leona suck anyway or something idk (blah blah leonavil divorce lol). Vil doesn’t even wanna go but he has to for his image , and tells cater it’s for his own good that he’s not taking him 🏃 

So caters pouty , and I think this could have different alternate routes. 

One route: he doesn’t find a way in but is curious anyway and finds himself going to the forest outside the venue and hears the jams and stuff, and he’s like “wow why am I so sad that I’d go skulk around the outside of a party I’m not even invited to” and he hears a Voice “you were not invited either, hmm?” And caters like AAAAAAA and it’s a mysterious tall horn man lol. Hornton tells cater that every year his invitation is claimed to have been “lost in the mail” but he’s pretty sure they just don’t send it bc he and the prince don’t get along.  Cater is about to ask how this guy knows the prince , but then the distant music gets all slow and sweet and the mysterious man asks cater to dance with him there in the forest ✨ 

Something something idk where it goes after that but eventually cater learns that guy is Also A Prince lol, his dream of finding prince charming fulfilled. Maybe sometime between meeting malleus and before the conclusion, lilia is the ~fairy godmother~ role of mysteriously befriending cater and being messenger between the two (thinkin about the role he plays in giving yuu that holiday card lol, stuff like that)

Another route: cay cay is sulking and goes to hang out with his good buddy pal kalim, who is this route’s ~fairy godmother~ bc when cater is all 😔 about the party, kalims like “oh! I’ll take you :) I was invited too!” And he buys cater a fun and fancy outfit to wear. 

But then ! Kalim learns that cater wants to go and meet prince Leona, and Kalim is 😬 bc Leona is. not the warmest guy in the world lol. But he doesn’t want to crush his friend’s dreams 🥺 so he has to think of a plan to get him off the Leona track!!! He goes to Jamil, who is like, idk his chef or whatever, bc Jamil knows Leona’s chefs too bc Kalim and Leona’s families know each other and go to each other’s events and hold joint events idk whatever blah blah lol

Anyway point is Jamil knows trey , I don’t know how that really helps anything tho LOL. I think Kalim is like “Jamil help me !! We gotta find other people for cater to talk to at the party so he doesn’t meet Leona and get his heart broken!!!” And jamils like “why does he wanna meet Leona. ew.” And kalims like idk bestie 😖

Anyway. They get to the party and Kalim is trying to introduce cater to every friend/acquaintance he has. Vil spawns a few times and is like cater 😒 I warned u not to come 😒 and caters like 😤 you’re not the boss of me vil!!! 

Cater also gets kinda drained from the tons and tons of people he and Kalim are meeting and chatting with. Jamil is lurking and watching like 👀 🤔 and goes to cater and offers to let him come rest a moment in the kitchen staff room and hide from the bustle of the party. Cater is flustered that Jamil could see he was feeling tired lol, but agrees anyway. 

They go and that’s where he meets TREY, who is there taking a break and idk just made tea that he offers Jamil and cater. They sit and chat a few minutes before Jamil makes a convenient excuse to leave the room and “check on something” aka just leave those 2 alone to bond lol. 

Something something they bond really well and dance together in the kitchen break room or whatever idk lol, cater gives trey his number, so operation distract cater from Leona is a success yaaaaaaay 

Maybe another secret route with vil, like surprise he’s trying to keep cater from Leona not only bc Leona Sucks but also bc he likes cater lol 🤫 

Not related to caterella at all really but too bad close enough it goes in the doc. 

Based off the Japanese version (🥲 eng twst whyyy lol) of that one story between cater and vil where cater says he thought about dating him / vil says dating him would be Expensive lol, au where caters like ok fine challenge accepted, cay cay finds a JOB and ends up… resorting to…. Getting a job at mostro lounge 🤧 to fund his date with vil one day lol. He probs bickers with the fish but also is maybe decent at it bc he’s a chatty boy so he’s like , a fun cute waiter people like having lol, and he’s used to having to work with riddle and the crazy queen rules so like, yeah I don’t think he’d LIKE the job but I think he’d survive, while also complaining to trey and riddle about it who are like “you willingly chose to do this” lol. Anyway plot twist vil was another red herring bc this was secretly a cater/Jade story all along WAHAHA. Idk just I think it’d be cute if they bonded over time working together lol. Coworker enemies to friends to lovers or whatever. Bonus points if Jade liked cater from the start but was just being a weird fish about it so cater was like “ah, psychological warfare, this one is my enemy”

sorry i kept dunking on leona so hard LOL i think it's funny when characters have beef with each other and i especially love the beef leona has with both malleus and vil in canon skldjfkldsjf. ok that last part with jade is just the stuff that got mentioned in the post i linked in the jade section lol. but the other bits i think were ambiguous not nrc au but i didnt really specify the worldbuilding bc i mean... i wasnt writing a fic i was just having so many ideas LOL

Cut to Kalim on the ground like omg I didn’t know cater and Leona were friends!! The second years are sitting in the grass doing stretches for some reason I guess lol. riddles like they’re not friends, wtf is he doing up there 😒 

Kalim checks his phone and sees the pic cater posted , and looks back up where caters still hovering around Leona and smiling, and he’s like OMG do u guys think they’re dating!!!! Did Leona ask cater out with this bird??????

And kalims like idk what else would he catch a bird for cater for!!!!!

By the end of the day the rumor shot through the school

Ruggie tells Leona but Leona doesn’t care , rumors are rumors

Then the tabloids are like “second prince Leona might’ve finally found his life companion?!” And Leona still doesn’t care bc tabloids are dumb and they’ll move on eventually when they realize it’s not true

But then Leona’s brother calls and is like “Leona! You didn’t tell me you’d found someone special?? I had to find out through cheka showing me an article online!!! When are you gonna bring this cater boy to meet the family??” And Leona’s like wtf 😠 so he goes to heartslabyul like “hey 😤 wtf is this rumor” caters like I didn’t do it 😒 you literally watched me post the bird pic and that was it, I said NOTHING of romance 😤 

Meanwhile lilia: oh my, you’d best find a bigger bird with shinier feathers before it’s too late

fjsdlkfjdlks ok sorry this one actually needs some explaining probably bc like most of these docs theres a lot of inside jokeys/references to many convos we'd have on the characters lol

one point is that we used to joke about like, sitcom style rumors growing out of hand and SO fast. especially with the first years + kalim and silver, but i guess in this case it was the second years, with still kalim LOL jsdklfjds.

second i have many ships. i like bringing them up when theyre not relevant. i like lilia being an embarrassing dad and wingman for malleus. i guess malleus has a crush on cater in this scenario bc i have always LOVED cater/malleus lol.

of course i found a way to mention jamil/azul sjklfjdsljfdlsj i think my friend and i would also joke a lot about azul having a crush on jamil and being kinda jelly that floyd gets to hang w/him at basketball practice/floyd being a little bitch about that for fun KJFDSKLFJKDSLJF

bird proposals. it's absurd but i think these goofyass kids would believe anything if you said it convincingly enough. remember how for like 10 seconds ruggie and the other banana boys thought leona had literally turned into a tsumtsum. anything is possible.

Finally doing a formal-ish introduction for them!

Lapis was just a normal kid living their life, when they suddenly woke up in a whole new place.

It was hard to accept at first, they wanted to get back home.

It turns out it’s not that hard to make friends here. Everyone is so interesting and entertaining. They’ve never felt this happy before.

Maybe staying isn’t so bad.

They’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

Whenever they don’t feel masc or fem, they’ll style their outfit differently so it doesn’t look like the masc or fem versions (idk if that makes sense?)

On a scale though, I think this would be more accurate to describe how Yuu addresses our favorite dragon supervillain.

“Tsunotaro!”— normal, happy, maybe slightly exasperated Yuu. All is right with the world.

“Malleus…”— wary, bordering on genuinely worried or actually angry Yuu. Proceed with caution or maybe dial it back a bit.

“Draconia-San.”— Yuu is unbelievably furious. Abandon all hope, ye who hear this.

Leona, Jamil and Vil put up the most active physical resistance when confronted with an unwanted rescue. These bois POINTY and SHARP when they want to be, though Vil and Jamil are always careful to keep it to “plausibly deniable accidents” whereas Leona just. Doesn’t care.

Riddle and Azul are most likely to verbally protest to attempt to prevent this, though while Azul is more “touch me again and I’ll sue for violation of personal boundaries and harassment”, Riddle‘s course of action is “listen to me the first time or let your eardrums suffer as I SCREAM”

Idia has never actually been bodily removed, because he was only there in person once, though he pouts and sends bills to the RSA for every drone destroyed during the fights between the heroes and the Supervisor.

Malleus has the strongest physical resistance, period. Most heroes can’t shift him if he doesn’t wanna be moved. He just stands there and stares disdainfully down at them when they try. He’s not leaving until Yuu asks, and he’ll ignore them the first few times anyway.

Unfortunately for Yuu and the civilians, Rollo decides to graciously accept this thoughtful “hostage bouquet”, especially since they went through all the trouble to procure the Malleus Draconia for him.

It means he has to rearrange his plans a bit, but surely nothing could be more romantic than a bit of “lower the hostages into a vat of super-power stripping serum which will also boil them alive” together while he presents his potential beloved with a bouquet of the very flowers he used to make said serum, right?

Yuu’s going to need to think fast to get them all out of this one.

Imagine reporter Yuu goes on a date with a guy who's appears very average but somehow miraculously avoids the various schemes of the villains and heroes to chase them off. If anything they backfire often, putting the guy and Yuu in even more romantic situations. The guy is completely oblivious to these schemes, he just himbo's his way in and out of situations.

Riddle tries to interfere by relying on Ace and Deuce’s stellar talents for mischief-making. The problem is the reporter recognizes them, despite their brilliant and clever disguises and their date recognizes that they recognize the two bartenders who’ve just come to serve them. The guy jumps up, eagerly introducing himself to Yuu’s friends, and begins asking about what they like to do together. The topic of conversation is enough to guilt trip Deuce into sabotaging Ace’s attempts to slip the date a drugged drink, and all of Trey, Cater, and Riddle’s subsequent attempts as well.

Leona scoffs at the display. Don’t these idiots know the simplest approach is the direct one? So he King’s Roar’s a lamppost as the two are walking to their restaurant, hoping that a concussion or fractured collarbone will bring this date to a swift close. Only for the guy to trip on a crack in the pavement, crashing into Yuu and sending the two of them spinning into a french dip. Leona growls at the two of them laughing bashfully as they straighten up and keep walking, hand in hand.

Oh dear, oh dear, this is a fine mess, isn’t it? Better now that Azul sends Jade and Floyd in as undercover wait staff to do damage control. The problem is this guy is so oblivious, he keeps misinterpreting even Floyd’s bluntest threats as advice for how to better woo Yuu (order the mushroom dishes and plenty of physical affection). And worst of all? It’s working.

Jamil can’t help pinching the bridge of his nose at this incompetence. It’s easy to Snake Whisper members of staff after Floyd storms out, with Jade harassing the chefs for his own portion of their famous mushroom dish. He’ll just make sure to destroy the mood completely and utterly by having the servers spill something on the date. The problem is, Kalim gives the servers a fancy dessert and bottle of wine to “spill”, and the date, somehow, manages to catch the dessert before it hits him and assumes the wine is meant to be poured into their glasses. The wait staff still apologize profusely and Jamil is furious to realize they’ve just given them free drinks and dessert.

Vil sighs. Well, if you want something done right, as they say. The concoction he’s brewed will knock this irritant right out before they’re even in the taxi, throughly putting Yuu off. Rook’s even in position now, dart prepared and everything…and a bus with Neige’s new makeup brand passes by. Rook, distracted by the beauté, fires too early. The couple are surprised when the lady in front of them in the queue suddenly lists to the side and begins snoring, but when the taxi driver asks if they want to get in, they’re quick to.

Of course those normies wouldn’t be able to handle this. Idia grins to himself as he scrambles the GPS in the taxi’s navigation system. Let’s see how this punk reacts to being horrifically lost in the wilderness!…As it turns out, pretty well, given that the taxi ends up taking them to a quiet little hill overlooking a lake with a perfect view of the stars. Idia headdesks when Ortho reports back to him with this.

So it ultimately all falls to Malleus to ensure this night does not end in marriage. He’s wearing his most daunting supervillain outfit, horns practically sparking with power as he appears behind the couple—! Bringing all the many, many small glowing green sparks that Yuu’s learned to associate with him as he does so. Their date is delighted by the appearence of the “fireflies” and Yuu turns around to where Malleus is standing in the shade of a tree, eyes shining and smile wide as they mouth, ‘thank you’. Damn him, but Malleus has never been one to deny his Child of Man their happiness.

And then at the end of the date, the guy thanks Yuu for a lovely time, but suggests maybe they’re better off as just friends.

Yuu is a bit disappointed, but it happens. They just need some cuddling with Grim and bad movies and junk food with Yuuken before they’re ready to try again.

Prompt: Ace dares you to jump at the first person to come around the corner to see if they'll catch you.

Malleus ;; ace would be terrified and malleus would be very confused, is this some kind of… human ritual to welcome someone, child of man??

You groan, why does Ace have to do this to you? He probably cheated! Now you’re gonna have to ridicule yourself and possibly hurt yourself, great.

But, the moment you see his horns peek around the corner, you light up. It’s Tsunotarou! Surely he is capable! 

You yell his nickname loudly, swinging your arm as a greeting. Ace’s face pales, almost as white as the ghosts at Ramshackle. He tries to hold your arm to keep you back, away from Malleus, but he’s so skittish from fear that his grip does nothing at stopping you. He is merely able to call out to you, telling you that he’s sorry and that you don’t need to do it. But you ignore him.

“Hm? What is it, child of man? Is something troubling you?” He slightly beams as he lays eyes on you, corresponding to your wave. You take that opportunity and speed in his direction. His only physical reaction was the way his eyes widened, but it was so unnoticeable that if you weren’t intently looking at him like you are, you wouldn’t have seen it. But, behind his cool facade, he felt on edge. What is going on with you? Are you… perhaps mad at him? What could he have possibly done to deserve your wrath?

He was ready to accept anything that you’d do, as long as you’d forgive him for whatever he had done. But the way you beamed as you lounged at him, with open arms, dissolved the whole scenario he had created in his mind.

His lips quivered as he tried to restrain a smile. He put his arms around your body the moment you two collided against each other, and he didn’t even sway backwards.

“Is this… Some kind of human ritual, child of man?” You lie to him, telling you that you just wanted some attention, he smiles fondly at you. “You could have just asked.”

Lilia ;; another one that probably heard you and ace, deffo capable of catching you without trouble, but may do some flips in the air with you, so if you get motion sickness you’re screwed

You don’t know if you’re truly lucky or the Seven are giving you the stink eye. On one part, he seems strong enough to be able to pull it off. But on the other… you want to keep your head on your shoulders.

Ace doesn’t let you keep thinking how to curry the Seven’s favour any longer, as he pushes you in Lilia’s direction.

Sighing, you jog in his direction, calling out to him to make him see you, which, was in fact, not necessary, he knew where you were and what you were trying to do, silly!

He had a smug smile plastered on his face. He looked at you as how a pup looks at a new, shiny toy to play with, and you were definitely not content with that.

As you started to quicken your pace, he chuckled, chuckled! 

Oh, you were going to try to drag him down.

But all your plans were defeated the moment you came in contact with him. He lifted you both in the air, his grip on you surprisingly tight. Which you mentally thanked him for, you were not looking to fall down from such a height.

But the moment he started swaying you both, you regretted it immediately.

Safe to say your throat hurts after a couple of spins and wheels in the air.

Silver ;; he was feeling sluggish and decided to lay down, and then you go and crash into him, poor little guy 

Lately, Silver had been feeling slightly tired, his movements becoming sluggish with each passing moment, so he decided to find a quiet place to rest, he didn’t want to fall asleep in the middle of something important, so even if he didn’t exactly want to sleep at the moment, it was the best choice.

But oh, how wrong he was. There, on the perfect spot, the one on which he supposedly should never be annoyed by a random passerby, you two, Ace and the Prefect of the Ramshackle dorm were quietly talking together.

He hadn’t noticed you two though, and so he unknowingly became your designated target.

He yawned, putting a hand in front of his mouth to stifle it, and the first sight he caught when he opened his eyes was enough to give him nightmares. There you were, running straight at him at full speed. For a moment he was about to grab for his sword, but he would never point one at you, and he also left it behind.

He called out to you, perhaps trying to negotiate you out of whatever you had set your mind to, but you did not respond, so he quickly gave up.

You, however, did not, jumping at him when you were close enough. His arms reacted quickly, enclosing you in his embrace, however, his legs were weak at that moment, giving out under him, forcing you both to the floor. If he hadn’t felt so exhausted he could have held you without any trouble, but it was not the case.

You sat on his stomach, a little bit dizzy from the fall, but it was nowhere the same as what Silver would have felt, since he cushioned your fall. You shook him by his shoulders to ask him if he was okay, but when he didn’t respond your blood froze. Did you just kill this dude?!

Oh, he’s breathing, he probably just fell asleep. Now, you scoot him over to a tree stump so that he is a little bit more comfortable and quietly leave with Ace and a promise for a lot of tuna cans.

Sebek ;; yeah he is jacked and can catch you… but will he? youre a “HuMaN!1!!”

He noticed you before Ace even said anything, calling out to you with his classic “HUMAN!”, you could see Ace playfully roll his eyes at you and push you in his direction, an evil little smirk present on his face.

You honestly don’t trust that Sebek will catch you, on one hand he is strong and capable of lifting you up, he is Malleus bodyguard afterall, but on the other, he is Malleus bodyguard, and is fully and only devoted to him, if you are not his revered “waka-sama” you doubt he will even look in your direction. But oh well, might as well run for it.

He sees you running at him, but doesn’t think anything about it, after all, he did call your attention. But what he was not expecting was your feet leaving the soil as you jumped towards him, arms open as if you wanted a hug. His instincts took over, and he acted before he could even think about what was happening, his arms now around your body in a protective manner.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HUMAN?!” He, behind his words, was worried about you. “IF YOU HAD JUMPED AT MALLEUS YOU COULD HAVE CREATED A HUGE PROBLEM!!” You ignore him, instead complimenting him, he is pretty strong but you did not expect him to catch you!! The moment those words leave your mouth he lets you down as if your touch burns him, and you can almost see the blush that covers his ears as he turns around.

“Oh! Oh, of course I am strong… I am Malleus’ bodyguard after all!” He forgot why he had called you before.

I tried to fight it and I think ultimately I put up a very good fight but, inevitably, I lost and now I have descended into the rabbit hole...

...I started Twisted Wonderland and I AM IN LOVE!!! I just finished up chapter 2 last night and I have not experienced this level of serotonin since before the pandemic. Under the cut are just a few of my reactions/favorite moments to far.

Hello hello!! Thank you for this question! I am so glad that you enjoy the little translated blurbs from the books ♡

Confirming that something is in the novels is a lot easier than confirming something is not because there is always the likelihood that I have just forgotten, so I would like to reread the second novel to be absolutely sure (sometimes scenes that seem to have been removed are actually just placed elsewhere in the story), but I do know that, if there is a necktie interaction between Riddle and Yuuya, it is not in its original place!

Here is the scene in as it is in the second novel (part 1 of 2), overlapped with the pseudo-equivalent parts from Book 2!

"‘—and I guess it’s because I was so surprised, but I didn’t get any sleep at all last night.’

Yuuya recounts the events of the previous night as he gets ready for class, and Grim gives a chuckle.

‘Yuu, you’re such a scaredy cat.’

Grim yawns where he sits upon the bed, opening his mouth so wide it almost seems he could swallow Yuuya’s entire head.

Unlike Yuuya, Grim does not change his clothes in the morning, or wash his face. His morning routine is very quick as a result.

‘Gettin’ all freaked out just ‘cause you ran into some stranger at night. Ghosts are scarier than that, right?’

‘Well, yeah. But I had never seen someone with horns before, so I was surprised.’

As they leave the room and head downstairs, Grim looks back at Yuuya.

‘So what's his name?’

‘He wouldn’t tell me. He said I can call him anything I want. Based on the color of the armband he had, I think he was from Diasomnia.’

A yellow-green ribbon with a black line through it—Diasomnia colors, the same worn by Lilia and Silver. An imposing person like that would hardly be out of place in a dorm overseen by the much-rumored Malleus Draconia.

‘No point in goin’ to look for him, then. I wanted to see a human with horns,’ Grim says. ‘Was there anythin’ else about him?’

Yuuya does not know what to say. It is impossible to express it in words alone.

It was not a beauty that one recognizes at a glance, like that of Leona or Vil, but an otherworldly face with almond eyes that linger in your mind forever. An aura unlike that of anyone else, that none could even hope to attain.

Yuuya does not know if he will ever be able to put into words how he felt in that moment.

As Yuuya grapples with how to explain, Grim quickly makes up his mind.

‘Well, nevermind. Since we don’t know his name, let’s call him Hornton for now.’

‘Hornton?’ Yuuya’s eyes go wide. ‘That’s way too unsophisticated for him! He's sure to get upset.’

‘He’s the one who said to call him whatever, so it’s fine. He’s got no ground to stand on, right?’

‘Well, he did, but…’

Grim seems to have become bored with their discussion. He dismissively responds, ‘Tell me the next time you see that Hornton. I’m gonna make sure he understands real good that Ramshackle isn’t some ruin.’

FINALLY GOT THE TIME AND MOTIVATION TO COMPLETE THE SECOND CHAPTER

Chapter 2: A Pre-Class Discussion

The first day of "prince classes" have officially begun. The headmage has called all the princes and assistants to a private discussion before the main courses.

"Alright," the headmage began. "Welcome to your first day of lessons to prepare you for your duty as princes. As you know, you are to be the hosts of this ball. A welcoming and amicable representation of Night Raven College and it's image to our esteemed guests. These courses shall give you training in the art of dance, conversation, and hosting."

Piper, excited to be there, looked around at the other attendants of the meeting. Grim seemed to be half asleep considering he was up late practicing his "Belle of the Ball speech" in the possibility that he would be chosen.

Deuce looked determined to fulfill his role as prince, though Piper could possibly tell that there was some nerves coming from him as well. Azul looked more confident and relaxed to be in this position, and with a hint of mischief at that. Kalim's usual bright and optimistic demeanor shone through, somehow even more than usual. And still, there was someone missing...

"Now, before we begin," Crowley continued. "Is everyone present and accounted for?"

"Deuce Spade reporting for duty!" Deuce exclaimed with a salute for some reason. It could be seen how his determination mixed with his nerves.

"Always here and present," the suave voice of Azul said afterwards.

"Excited to be here!" Kalim gleamed.

"Assistance team present," Piper spoke up, which shook grim to wake up a bit more.

"Ah, I see," said Crowley, looking a bit disappointed. "So, we have the assistance team and only three princes-" As he said that, the door to the classroom suddenly opened.

"My apologies for the late arrival," a deep voiced man said at the door. The group looked over to see the Malleus Draconia at the door. The fourth prince has officially arrived. "I hope I did not miss anything important." Piper gleamed as she saw Hornton walk to an empty seat in the classroom. She waved at him and he waved back with a smile.

"Mr. Draconia," Crowley said, happy that he was there, but cross that he was late. "I expect more timeliness from one of our princes. I do hope this is the last time you are tardy, or we may have to reconsider your placement."

"My sincerest apologies again for my tardiness," Malleus said with such professionalism, as if he has said it a million times before. "I will make so that it does not happen again."

"I do hope so," Crowley said before turning his attention to everyone else. "So, now that we are all in attendance, I shall give you all your assignments and schedules for your courses." He looked over at Piper and Grim. "For those unaware Ms. Finch and Grim shall be assisting the princes in your classes and duties. So, feel free to entrust them with whatever you need before your time at the ball."

The four princes looked at Piper and Grim. The sudden attention made Piper a bit uncomfortable, but seeing the smiles of everyone's faces (even if Azul's was a bit more mischievous than the others) made Piper feel a bit more at ease, determined, yet pressured to do her best.

Once Crowley distributed the schedules for everyone, they were dismissed. Before the princes left, each one came up to the Ramshackle duo.

"So, child of man and Grim are to be our assistants throughout our time as princes of the ball," Malleus said with his smug yet sophisticated tone. "Hm, I am sure you will not disappoint."

"I promise I will not, Hornton!" Piper said as she seemed to be sparkling with glee. Malleus smiled back.

"Yes," the voice of Azul cut through the three. "I expect you to carry out your duties with great competence." Azul's mischievous smirk never left him. Piper and Grim felt a chill as they knew he would possibly take advantage of all of their positions to his own gain. They just hope that he will go easy on them.

"This is going to be so much fun!" the chipper, sunny voice of Kalim jumped in. "I'm excited to work with all of you! Let's make this ball the best party ever!"

"Thank you for your help, Piper and Grim!" Deuce was the last one to have a say to them.

"You better be more grateful than that at the end of this," Grim said back. Starting to regret being here, but holding hope for the title of Belle if the Ball.

"Oh silly-ole-cat," Piper said as she rolled her eyes. "I'm always happy to be of assistance!" With that she looked at her schedule for herself and Grim

"Now, where do we begin?"

Sage: No, and no. Why are these horn-related names?? You know what? I’ll just call him Firefly.

Malleus: It’s good to see you child of man.

Sage: Hey, Firefly. You wanna know the stuff I went through?

Malleus: Firefly? You are referring to me?

Sage: You said that I can call you whatever I want. Plus fireflies are always around you. I might even use Firefly boy if I'm feeling cheeky.

Malleus: Haha, you're quite an interesting character. Although, are you alright? Your head is...

Sage: Oh man I got a good story for you.

Translation from Twisted Wonderland the 2nd novel: Post-Malleus Meeting (2/2)

"'The only reason you can say that is because you’ve never met Hornton.’ Yuuya sighs, his shoulders drooping. And yet, he can’t help but smile: now he’s calling him Hornton, too. Thanks to their conversation, he has managed to calm down a bit.

Unfortunately for Grim, Yuuya doubts that he will ever see the man again.

Yuuya breathes a sigh of relief. The school grounds are vast, and he hardly has the time to cross paths with anyone besides his own classmates. 

Unless the man seeks him out intentionally, he doubts he will ever have the opportunity to use the rude nickname.

‘Yuu, Grim, morning.’

‘Morning.’

‘Good morning, you two.’

Yuuya greets Deuce and Ace, as usual, where they sit in the two seats in front of him. They seem a bit lethargic. Perhaps they haven’t fully recovered from yesterday.

‘Were you able to speak with Riddle-senpai yesterday, after that?’

Before going their separate ways, they had said that they’d be reporting the findings of their investigation once they got back to their dorm.

Ace rests his chin on his hand. ‘Oh yeah, we reported all about Jack. This moron spilled everything.’ Ace nudges the embarrassed Deuce.

‘Once he heard about how we got beat up by Savanaclaw and disgraced him, the housewarden was furious. His face got all red and everything.’

‘I didn’t think he was going to get so upset.’ Deuce rubs one of his shoulders. ‘They’ve got some nerve, laying a hand on our students!, he said. He was about to charge right over to Savanaclaw.’

‘Eh? Was everything all right?’

Deuce nods. ‘Clover-senpai stopped him for us. It was amazing.’

‘It was business as usual, is what you mean.’ Ace shrugs. ‘We were already exhausted, and then walked straight into an uproar. Cater-senpai laughed it off, but we were really in hot water.’

‘He's still ragin’ Riddle,’ Grim sounds unnerved, but Yuuya cannot find anything to say. Because he remembers what Riddle told him yesterday, right after they parted with Lilia and Silver. 

‘I think he was worried about the three of you.’

Deuce gives a wry smile, and Ace contorts his face into an exaggerated frown with a dismissive wave of his hand.

‘The housewarden? Not a chance. If he was even a little bit worried, he would’ve asked if we were okay first before going off like that.’

Ace and Deuce seem to think that Riddle was only upset about the damage to his pride, but would someone who prioritizes their anger over all else even think to ask, 'What makes a good housewarden'?"
