in your opinion was fallout 4 over-hated at launch or is it just one of those games you have to engage at it's own level (aka The Gamer's Bane)?

It's similar to Super Paper Mario in that it's a very well made and fun game, but it is inconsistent with how the series had been established to be for the previous games. This both in the aesthetic sense, where the retrofuturism and Jetsons-y visuals were cranked up from a 4 to an 11, but also a lot of core changes that people hated. This was stuff up to and including straight up retcons and contradictions, like Jet being mentioned in pre-war terminal entries, or specific power armor lore details that I've actually forgotten but apparently they were important to people. Some go as far as saying it's a soft reboot, which I think is accurate. On top of that, it's significantly more railroaded in its roleplaying possibilities than previous titles, locking you into the role of a grieving widow searching for your kidnapped child no matter who you wanted to be when the game came out, as well as drastically cutting down on dialogue tree diversity and intrigue. These two things you're able to augment with mods, Dana for instance has a backstory of a rogue Institute synth with the memories of a pre-war Vault Dweller who teams up with Nick Valentine to solve the mystery of a missing child. But I'm only able to experience that because a mod I have for skipping the game's intro allows you to pick specific points to spawn, and had to modify HUNDREDS of in-game dialogue interactions to cobble together NPC lines in a way that supports those different backstories when in reference to the main quest. And the fact that fans needed to do all that stuff is kind crazy. Cuz the fans aren't profiting from the game, it's Bethesda that is.

I don't think the game was overhated at launch, I think it was criticized for being completely different from what the entire rest of the series had been, and a letdown in the eyes of many.

I don't think its failings as a Fallout game disqualify it from being a good game, though in the eyes of many it does disqualify it from being a good Fallout game, which I can understand fully.

Anita jean!

ANITAT JEAN!!!

Alright so the Little Wren AU is basically just 'Bruce manages to find Anita after she fakes her death' and she actually does become his first sidekick. She isn't a fighter, Bruce puts her under three layers of armor, and she basically fills a mage and healer role with first aid (mostly for civilians and criminals) and the virtual reality gas drug, the use of which allows batman to remain a cryptid for far longer.

Anita also takes longer to get the hang of grappling hooks because she's less coordinated than even Tim but she does get them probably not too long after Dick comes to the manner since the two can train together. Her inability to use grappling hooks when she first enters the field is why The Whirly-Bat was made, named The Hummingbird in this au because it's Anita's and was named before Dick was adopted into the family and took a bat-gimmick to every piece of equipment in the cave. Before he joined the team, Bruce and Anita were work shopping names for a lot of their stuff but hadn't come to decisions for most of them, so Dick still gets to do that, but not for Anita's Hummingbird.

Rather than the dynamic duo, this au has either a tritastic trio of Batman, Wren, and Robin, or the dynamic duo is seen as Wren and Robin, as Batman's sidekicks. When Tim ends up at the manner, Anita basically tells him he's too tactical to be Robin and gives him the Wren mantle, which she either had already left behind or was in the process of considering it. Steph ends ends up becoming his paired Robin, for much longer than Canon.

Steph initiating that plan that required Matches Malone probably still happens, but with Anita's help she's able to salvage it, but it opens up an entirely new set of problems because at that point Anita was already on the verge of discovering The Court of Owls (because their one give away was a nursery rhyme and she wanted to find out it's origin because it's her hobby) and now The Court sees the bat clan take control of the city basically in it's entirety so those two things combined make The Court release the elite talons. A temporary alliance with The League of Assassins and the timely first arrival of Cass in the city means they just barely manage to win. This is also the family's first introduction to Damian and a recently resurrected Jason is probably also there, but dressed like the rest of the assassins so he isn't recognized.

Anita herself, which is what this au is actually about, is going to be depicted as better adjusted due to not living her life since she was, like, eight alone and eventually dedicated to revenge. She has hyperfixations on birds, nursery rhymes, programming, and tech and is an excellent detective. I already mentioned she's less coordinated starting out but that doesn't mean she's weak, she'd probably be able to beat Dick in a fight when he first gets to the manor since he's at that point just a gymnast but she's been training as a martial artist for like six months at that point.

Speaking of Dick, I really look forward to writing their banter. They are going to be so sassy to each other but very protective of each other. Almost as much as they're both protective of every one younger siblings, which, and seeing some of your posts this may be disappointing, isn't going to be terribly long. Finding a way to fit every obscure batfam character in is for my other dc au, the same one that my ruleset for Claire's powers is for, but I do have Calvin, Charlie, and and Dana (Talon, Misfit, and Strike) as sure-shows for Little Wren.

Long-Term, the au's story-arc will focus on the eventual take down of The Parliament of Owls as the main antagonists, as it feels fitting for an Anita Jean focused story for previously stated Nursery Rhyme related reasons, although I do also plan for The League to be taken down due to Tim still having his globetrotting adventure and then the batfam actually capitalizing on it.

Edit for Addendum: the first paragraph makes it sound like Anita never fights, I should clarify that her role on the team does evolve as she gets older and Bruce becomes more lenient.

X-Files OctoberFicFest Day 5: Protect

This year I'm using the October 2022 prompts from @artpromptcal.

They all think he protects her. He's tall and he's strong and he would lay down his coat or his life for Dana. Maggie knows better. Yes, he shelters her with the bulk of his body from wind and rain and the up-and-down looks she gets from suspects. He opens doors, too: he was raised with company manners. But Maggie knows what happened the night he came to the hospital, and she knows what didn't happen.

Dana is the one that protects him from the yawning darkness he fears most. Dana keeps his soul, and Maggie suspects she has his heart too. There's more to life than the physical, and that's where Fox is vulnerable. What happens to Dana's body matters, of course, but Maggie has never worried about her soul. She worries for Fox. It isn't a matter of heaven or hell, but of the hell-on-earth that grief has carved for him, a chasm under the brittle surface of his humor. One day he'll fall through. Play Report: Tacticians of Ahm #2

Tonight, I ran the second session of an ongoing playtest of an upcoming starter Tacticians of Ahm adventure I'm hoping to get out in the February update (the game is itchfunding now). So, here's a play report (and here's a link to the first play report)!

After the chaos of the griffin attack on the Academy's field day, everyone went back inside the Academy walls for safety. Both griffins, including the one carrying Von Lopesbane, flew off to the northeast, after getting hit by enough attacks from the professors and student tacticians below to be thoroughly annoyed.

Inside the walls, the party saw a number of scouts coming in from the north, west, and eastern roads, all with the same news: sightings and reports of imperial soldiers (even several skyriders - the empress's griffin rider legion) attacking Ahmian citizens - all while proclaiming to be fighting back against the corrupt1on!

Groups of Tacticians and their advisors began to form parties to go out and address these various reports - after all what's a better final exam than the real thing? Professor Dana Turr, an elderly naga woman and the Senior Term headmaster, gave the group an option (since their advisor, Von Lopesbane, was missing): Find Von Lopesbane on their own and it will earn them a guaranteed early graduation and exemption from the remaining weeks of exercises. The other Tacticians on site at the Academy are spread too thin with more violent reports nearby, but she can't abandon Von Lopesbane and if the imperial army is involved, this could be serious enough to actually mean he's in serious risk.

The group agreed and were sent off to Quartermaster Bormos to get field equipment before heading out: 5 rations, a healing potion, and a piece of equipment (under 25g) of their choice. Both Tacticians took Leather Armor. Quablin bought both of them backpacks for the road.

The group headed out, into the region northeast of the academy in search of Von Lopesbane.

The party was somewhat familiar with this region from their time at the Academy. To the north was Four Families, a collection of four family farms all housed very close to one another - the road eerily quiet. To the east, the village of Dodona - smoke rising up from that direction in the distance. To the far north, ruins of an old war watchtower, formally abandoned for centuries.

Helios pushed for the group to head to Four Families and then east towards Dodona. The road was strangely quiet on the way (no random encounters were rolled).

They arrived at the farmhouses and found it, again, strangely quiet. They approached the nearest house and a halfling farmer whispered at them out of the shrubs - There are soldiers in the house! They attacked the other houses and his family only just made it out in time.

Helios approached the house and tried to convince the soldiers inside that she was a higher ranking officer, but the soldiers were assured in their mission, claiming Helios to likely be an agent of the corrupti0n. Frustrated, Helios kicked down the door and rushed in!

Over a 4 round fight, the Tacticians faced 1 Lietenant (EL2) and 2 Spearman (EL1). Through a clever use of Stupor to stun two of the enemies followed by a perfect backstab from Helios the group took the fight but both were just a strike away from falling. The gained 1 XP, 1 RP for their combo and leveled their Relationship to Level 1.

They questioned the defeated troops, you seemed out of sorts, babbling about corrupt1on, being far from home, and the vile nature of the White Walled City - almost as if the concepts of D4RKW3LL and Ahm were swapped in their mind.

Next time, the party travels onward!

[Design notes: We were testing some changes/expansions here to overland travel as it is currently written in the published rulebook. It's more of a node-based pointcrawl than a traditional hexcrawl (like the FF Tactics overworld map). The other thing I'm focusing on going forward in playtests in holding myself better to the digital nature of the world and highlighting those aspects (and providing guidance in the rulebook for GMs to know how to do the same).](edited)

The second month of 2024 was another historically active month for the Morrowind Modding Community, with some 105 new mods released in February! The shortest month of the year, there were, nonetheless, dozens of high quality graphics replacers, new quests and adventures - lots and lots of quests and adventures (it was a very quest heavy month!) - new immersive gameplay mechanics, and much more besides! would you stream your fallout 4 playthrough?

besides the fact i don't stream anymore, i cant because i desperately wanted to have a character that is a girl and also has a penis, because Dana is the first character in a game I've made since I transitioned, and i wanted to specifically play a trans woman. to do so, i added a mod that gave her a penis (which was an extremely good call by the way, i am WAY more attached to her because of that one tiny detail if you can believe it).

as a result of this, every time i fully loot someone, or i take off my armor, or for literally any other reason someone might have their clothes all the way off, theres full balls butt pussy and ass. i mean, not all at the same time, but typically some combination.

though there's also a second problem. see, almost every mod that adds penises that a girl can have to Fallout 4 ends up making the penis, like, an attachable piece of armor that takes up an armor slot, and that's fuckin lame as hell. i dont want it to be some additive thing (even though Dana's signature weapon is a baseball bat called The Packer), i want it to be PART of my character. and eventually i found one that allowed me to craft a syringe to give Dana a permanent penis! but it has a very unfortunate name.

i think that if i were streaming, and i went to a chem station to make some Jet or whatever and saw the "FutaFEV" tab pop up, and another living human stranger saw that i had that menu-- whether they understood the previously explained context or not-- i'd turn into a pile of ash.

and that alone is reason enough for me to not want to stream this playthrough of Fallout 4.
