Saint Valentine's Day, 1317: The Comyn Estate, Barony of Finchwick, Henford-on-Bagley:

Everyone knew it wouldn't be wise to leave the manor for anything but essential business. They had been attending church weekly, of course, and those who worked at the castle would make their trips (often spending nights at a time there) but other than that? They were all completely homebound. Baroness Joan had consigned herself to an utterly dull Valentine's Day - her husband wasn't necessarily the romantic type anyway. Since she fell pregnant with Wyolet at an advanced age and their daughters' passing. . . He had struggled with that. He had always been shy, but he had become downright frigid outside of the occasional kiss.

So imagine her surprise when she walked into her chambers and saw a table set, wine on the table (during a great famine, no less!) and a roaring fire.

As she sat down, her husband entered the room and approached. He was freshly bathed, carrying a bouquet in his arms - which he promptly offered to his wife.

"My love."

"Flowers too?" Joan gasped, eyes going wide. "Wine? Flowers? Oh, John, how expensive must this have been?"

"Don't worry your head with such matters, it's taken care of."

She took the flowers, unable to stop a smile. She hadn't been expecting an acknowledgement of this holiday at all, so this was more than enough for her. She would have been happy with just a bouquet or just wine, but her husband knew that.

"Little John and I were talking and. . . It would be a shame for our wives to go ignored on a day of love because the world has gone mad. So we worked together to bring the outside to you."

"I cannot thank you enough!"

"Then don't try. Just enjoy this time with me."

The two of them sat, drank, ate some fruit that was deemed "spare-able" even with rationing, and simply enjoyed each other's company.

"I have begun work on my will." Joan said when the topic strayed to La Dauphin Adomar, their grandson in Willow Creek. "I was thinking we could each give him some of Little Joan's old things. I know it's not much to give a prince, but what is? You're only a baron and we have two sons to think about, I think it's beyond sufficient.

And Robert, the poor dear. I want him to have the portrait of him and Lizzie. Not before we are gone, we treasure that image of her, but I'd hate for it to rot in some church basement. "It's not morbid, it's practical. We're both growing older. Don't think I haven't noticed you huffing and puffing after you train with our son. Or how you waddled after you threw your back out. And I have been squinting while I read my holy book and struggling to sew properly."

"Alright. Enough of practical things. Let us not talk of our work, the state of the kingdom or our barony, our children, or our grandchildren. We love all of those things, but that's not what today is about."

"Then what is it about, John?"

"Us. Allow me to just be your husband again. Pretend it is the year of our Watcher 1292 and we were just wed. Our eldest would not join us for a while yet, we were young and the world was open to us."

"It has been quite the 25 years, hasn't it?"

"It has. And for tonight, I am not a baron nor a father. I am just your husband, Mrs. Comyn."

Whumpril 2024 Day 4: Swaying

One second they were driving down the tree-lined road leading back to their hotel. The next second Matago heard a revving engine close behind.

Then he was weightless and everything came in flashes.

The ATV taking a sharp left swerve. Dace crying out and brakes squealing. A blur of green and brown and dust flying into the air.

Finally, a burst of pain as his head slammed against the ground.

Then the movement stopped. Matago sucked in a deep breath, his ribs aching and hopefully not broken. Grass and dirt rubbed against his palms as he struggled to push himself upright.

He was distantly aware of noises and movement around him. A trio of unfamiliar men ran towards the ditch where the transport had crashed, forcing open the back storage compartment and grabbing the bags inside. As fast as they arrived, they charged back up the hill to a van parked on the side of the road and clambered inside. Then the van sped off, leaving everything suddenly quiet.

Matago’s eyes fluttered shut. The flashing images started to connect in his mind – someone had run them off the road and into a ditch.

“Shit…are you okay? Can you hear me?”

He opened his eyes again and slowly turned his throbbing head to the left. To his relief, it was Dace, stumbling past the wrecked transport to greet him. By some miracle the other man appeared mostly unhurt, aside from some rough scrapes and cuts on his left side. He must have been able to hold on to the handlebars enough to avoid getting thrown off the seat.

“Yeah,��� Matago replied, his voice quiet and weak. “You good?”

“As far as I know.” Dace crouched down next to him, looking him over for visible injuries. “You?”

It took Matago a moment to piece together the words for an answer. “Head hurts,” he slurred. “Don���t think anything’s broken, though.”

Dace frowned, and even in his disoriented state, Matago knew what he was thinking. That wasn’t just a simple bump on the head, was it?

“Okay…we should be able to walk back to the hotel, it’s not too far. Kalei can call for medical services or rent a transport to get you to a doctor.”

More of the pieces connected in Matago’s mind as he caught a glimpse of the open storage compartment. “They stole the money.”

Fuck. The payment of twenty thousand credits from their last job gone. A colleague of a colleague had apparently warned Kalei about thieves targeting drivers in the area near their hotel, but the three of them had brushed it off as a rumor. Looked like there was truth to it after all.

“We’ll deal with that later. Do you think you can stand?”

“Guess I’ll find out.”

With Dace’s help, Matago managed to slowly push himself upright along the edge of the ditch, eventually straightening to the point that Dace could pull him into a standing position.

Yeah, that definitely wasn’t just a bump on the head.

A wave of dizziness crashed over him, nearly sending him tumbling back to the ground. The uneven dirt beneath his feet only made it harder to keep his balance. He staggered a few steps forward and back, grabbing hold of Dace, the most solid physical anchor he had.

“Whoah, whoah, you okay?” Dace was thankfully strong enough to be able to hold him upright as he stumbled.

“Dizzy,” was all he could say in reply. The ground seemed to rock beneath him no matter where he tried to plant his feet.

“I could try to run back to the hotel and get Kalei first-”

Matago shook his head, then grimaced at another throbbing pulse of pain. “Don’t…don’t wanna be here if those guys come back.”

Dace stood rigid for a moment, weighing the options, while Matago swayed on shaky legs.

“Okay,” he said with a sigh. “If you think you can make it that far.”

Dace adjusted them both so Matago could lean on him further, then began to guide him towards a spot further down the ditch where the hill to the road was less steep. Matago stumbled on every third or fourth step even putting all his focus onto keeping his balance.

His mind fogged over as they reached the roadside. Only two thoughts remained clear: the nagging voice that told him he wouldn’t make it back to the hotel this way and the relentless determination trying to silence it.

I feel that a lot of this disk horse around AC: Shadows would be solved if Ubisoft just admits it isn’t prioritizing historical accuracy instead of riding its own dick about how accurate and cool they are. It wasn’t Ghost of Tsushima’s priority and it wasn’t trying to sell itself as that, and that game fucking rocks so what’s Ubisoft’s excuse? If a student is wronged by a teacher in a non malicious way. Can principals organize some kind of reparatory event? Like make up some medal and give formal apologies?

"Can" they? Yes, a formal apology from the principal, maybe with something else to make up for it, is possible. "Would" they? That very much depends on the principal, the teacher, and the student in question. From my personal experience, it's unlikely to be an "event" that is public, especially if it wasn't malicious. The principal would probably mediate the apology and reparation in private with the students affected and maybe their parents if they were involved. That said, it isn't inconceivable that more of a show would be made of it depending on the people involved and how public the wrong was. (Also, I'd very much expect the teacher to be unhappy with the publicity if that was the case.)

Given the misinformation that's been going around and will be going around, thought this might be helpful to some people

For a lot of reasons, I'm very good at this/at searching, to the point where I have worked as a professional fact-checker for two different publishers. So, here goes:

My Article Fact-Checking Protocol

Thorough Version

Read the full article. Keep an eye out for emotionally loaded words, and all-or-nothing language

Keep an eye out or anything that sounds too good to be true, and in contrast, anything that sounds so awful it must be true

Run the website/source through the amazing Media Bias/Fact Check. They'll tell you about a publication's bias and history of accuracy

Go to the website's home page and read through the headlines. Look at what topics they cover/prioritize, sensationalist headlines, and whether they're framing anything in a way that feels odd/off to you

Do a search related to the topic. This can be keywords, a question, or even just copy-paste the article title (Recommended: use DuckDuckGo so the results don't change based on what Google thinks they can sell you)

If multiple highly credible sources that say the same thing pop up, and there's no major societal biases that might affect the coverage of the topic in those sources (e.g. anything related to the Israel-Palestine conflict/Palestinian genocide, no matter which side), then I'm done!

If there are major societal biases, or I can't get a consensus of sufficiently credible sources, then I do some combination of:

(1) search the topic again + the words "controversy" and/or "fake"

(2) search the opposite of the topic, or do some sort of other filtered search

(3) look up a sufficiently credible news outlet with the opposite point of view of my source, and see what they have to say

(4) if it's a big enough topic, start by looking up 2 of the top national papers and 1 major paper for your region (I usually do the ones in the US, because that's where I am In the US: the LA Times, the Washington Post, and the NY Times)

Adjust "news" to "relevant type of source, e.g. tech, environmental" as relevant for all of the above options

If no red flags come up, and it's a topic I understand enough to smell huge bullshit,

Then I'm usually done!

If there are red flags, or I actually need a certain amount of detail/understanding, then it gets more complicated, but that would be a whole other thing to break down and such

I think because ann is often brushed off as a token cheerful, airheaded girly character there's a tendency to limit her insight to the areas that are expected of her (i.e. relationships, fashion, pop culture, etc) which doesn't account for the way she is deliberately and consistently established as the most insightful character in the game time and again. on fashion – ann notes her appreciation of harujuku subcultures at one point because it is unconventional and earnest, and as someone who has always stood out she understands the value of expressing yourself proudly without being weighed down by others opinions. also, during yusukes social link, ann is ultimately the one whose thoughtful reading of the sayuri and the understanding she's able to glean from it allows yusuke to reorient his perspective + break out of his slump. she has an interest in art and her perceptiveness lets her identify yusukes internal conflict with unerring accuracy from an abstract painting with no explicit details. and with yusuke in general she is the most preoccupied with his feelings and his needs during that entire arc and even when he pushes back against them she is the one constantly extending her hand and checking in on how he's doing.

but really throughout the whole game she is always approaching other people with extremely careful consideration to the point where it's a defining trait. out of all the phantom thieves, it's her relationship with makoto that is arguably the most centered in makotos arc. and during the conflict between those two ann is nowhere near flatly positive – on the contrary, the part of her that is brimming with rage, melancholy, and compassion is fully in the spotlight. her criticism is only so cutting because of her ability to see straight to the heart of things. but the resolution demonstrates what ann is capable of more than the conflict itself, pairing her ferocity with the gentleness and kindness that permits makoto and her to relate to + support each other. later ann is able to compare futabas mental state with shihos and her conviction drives her to once again relate to futaba, approaching her where she is at. it's ann who hesitates to leave haru when the spaceport starts collapsing. it's ann who lashes out so furiously, and so pointedly, at shido primarily on akechis behalf.

and of course anns uniquely discerning eye comes from the same place as the rest of her strength – her integrity and honesty of character. in fact ann is a person who knows exactly what her values are and is so sincere and unwavering in them that it is naturally impossible to sway them. when ann is faced with cruelty and derision her immediate response is to reframe it as a challenge and use it to reaffirm her respect for both herself and her opponent, something that takes incredible emotional maturity. notions of who ann should be or what she should prioritize cannot touch her because she knows to live her life on her own terms – she acts on admiration for the women in her life and already understands strength and beauty as going beyond appearances without having to be taught. she is inspired by and inspires those who support her every day; when the phantom thieves are unsure, she is always, always, the one who is continuously driven to help those in need and stand up for the weak, and she will never forget that. I didn't even say anything about alice hiiragi.

ann is a character who has to contend in universe with incorrect perceptions of her as shallow and substanceless, but she is feminine and doesn't get good grades, and so fans still often fall into the trap of depicting her as lacking critical thinking and a complex interiority – which is a shame for a character who is never once treated that way in the original game itself (for all its other problems with her writing.) ann is frequently vital to problem solving and her choices are often directly responsible for driving the plot forward, filling a role that no other character could perform. idk just. hello have you thought about ann takamaki on this fine day

My first time writing Jason stuff, AaAa - I hope it’s accurate to a good point. Like I said before I’m partial to Wayne Family Adventures Jason and a mix between him and the other versions of Jason’s I’ve seen on this app so I hope it’s acceptable- TvT

I’ve seen a lot of people be a stickler about the accuracy of Jason and have gotten genuinely angry if he was too nice or too angry or whatever so it’s all ahdjfnfjfn-

The wedding the both of you have was small. Well, small-ish - there was a lot of people he wanted to invite, surprisingly, ranging from some close friends, to allies in the vigilante world, to his family. There were a lot of vigilante’s in their civilian forms at your guy’s wedding. Your side of the family was really surprised The Bruce Wayne and The Clark Kent was there without any paparazzi whatsoever.

(You and Jason were very careful about that. So was Bruce, especially for all the hell Jason went through when he was younger. They may be on better terms now, but he still felt he had a lot to make up for. Jason is completely fine with that - to a point, of course.)

The honeymoon? Nice and calm vacation to a small town near Smallville. Jason and you wanted a getaway for just eachother, without any stresses of vigilante stuff, or villains to inevitably interrupt that.

Unbeknownst to the both of you, his siblings were also keeping a very strict routine of ‘DO NOT CONTACT JASON OR Y/N UNLESS IF IT IS A DIRE, DIRE EMERGENCY’

Trust me, if it was two dires you both would’ve had to come home.

Luckily that didn’t happen.

Now, married life back in the city was a whole other thing to get used to.

You two have already lived together for the past couple years beforehand. You two have already dealt with your fair share of strains in the relationship, and still do to some degree. But luckily over the years before marriage you guys found a way to deal with that in a healthy way.

You prioritize healthy coping skills. So does Jason.

Even your respective therapists do. (Harley Quinn helped you both find ones qualified for your respective traumas. Very hard task, but Harley has a bit of a soft spot for Red Hood both in and out of the mask. She’s pretty chill with you too.)

Jason has his bouts of anger. Never, ever takes it out on you though, ever. Hell no. You guys have a punching bag for that. Sometimes you both use it together if you guys are venting about your day! Very cathartic and nice to bond with.

He teaches you how to fight. Just in case. You hate using weapons but he helps you get more comfortable, and you guys go over plans in case of break-ins, kidnappings, ect.

Especially if someone decides to burgle your cat.

You guys have a black cat you guys found in an alleyway a year into dating. He is your guy’s son that you decided to name Robin. Jason didn’t like the name at first, especially since you not-so-subtly alluded it to be reminiscent of his Robin days, but over time it stuck.

Robin is a nice and very sweet kitty. No one messes with Robin and you have thrown hands after someone broke into your apartment once to steal him. That was also during the time you moved in with Jason, he freaked out when you called him after the break in. Thoroughly impressed you managed to beat up the intruder but he cares about your’s and your cat’s safety - you moved in not long afterwards.

Reading and drawing dates - you guys, even into your marriage, go on small dates like these that don’t require too much thought or money. Sometimes you go to the park, or if it’s raining to your guy’s favorite café, with your favorite books (and sketchbook no. 173637294 for you specifically), and just enjoy your times together.

You guys do it at home too, but it’s fun to dress up and get out of the apartment for those kinds of dates.

Your home, despite all the weapons he has hidden around or on ‘decorative’ display, is quite cozy too!! It’s your safe space and you want it to exude that energy all throughout. Jason likes figuring out where decorations and furniture should go with you, it’s his favorite thing that gives him a sense of normalcy with you.

Also the banter between you two is fun. Smartass after smartass remark leaves you in stitches with laughter. Especially if it’s late at night and you both are loopy from lack of sleep. (Jason has more practice with that but it still effects him to some degree.)

At this point being married, you’re used to his nightly activities too. Sometimes you stay up and make him his favorite food to the best of your ability (you aren’t too good at cooking, but you’re learning for the both of you, same as him). Other times you just order takeout and eat with him.

Sometimes you help with his injuries, other times you don’t. If they’re small and benign he’s able to do them himself, bigger ones have you worried and helping him.

You always make sure he has an icepack ready for bruises. He’s taught you how to stitch wounds up to, given the fact that you don’t have as much medical experience as him.

Also after his nightly escapades as Red Hood, you guys sit and have tea too!! Calms him down enough to sleep, even if some nights are harder than others.

He’s gotten better at coping with his PTSD, but as per the usual he does have his nightmares at times. You being there right next to him helps. And you help ground him back into reality. Be it cuddles, if he’s comfortable with them, or be it just sitting there next to him and talking to him about whatever’s on your mind until he’s laying back down to listen to you.

You guys switch between who’s big and little spoon.

Robin is always near you guys in some way during bedtime. One time you woke up to cat fur in between your’s and Jason’s heads before. Robin doesn’t understand personal space at all but you guy’s love it all the same.

Speaking of which, he’s a natural born shoulder kitty! He will jump on your shoulders when the offer is available. Sometimes he scares the crap out of the both of you though whenever he’s being frisky, though. But normally Robin’s smart enough to do it when you two are aware that he’s there. He learns.

On your harder days, Jason makes you breakfast and makes you tea just like you do for him. He always asks you what you need, what you’re comfortable with. Some days it’s cuddling, other times when you don’t want to be touched you just tell him you want him near only. He knows that’s when he can just sit beside you on either the couch, table, barstools or bed and just read while you listen and watch your guy’s favorite shows.

You guys also have nights where you guys have watch parties too.

Sometimes his siblings join in too, bringing food from Alfred as well. It’s fun, and annoying for Jason at times, but still great nonetheless.

You guys visit the manor when needed, or during holidays too. Hanukkah, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, certain Galas, birthday parties, ect.

Sometimes you guys both just visit to mess with his siblings and Bruce. Cause some chaos a bit, that sort of thing. It’s fun.

Also you guys have gossip dates.

Be it about vigilante drama, co-worker drama, customer drama, family drama, villain drama, you guys will gossip and when those dates are at home Robin the cat will put his two cents in as well. He’s as vocal as he is sweet. Which is very.

And sometimes you record when Jason and Robin have conversations. Neither of you guys can understand the cat’s meows but it’s so fun interpreting it and seeing your husband have a full on conversation with the cat. You send it to the group chat you’re in with all the siblings and he never hears the end of it for the next few patrols. Sometimes Dick and Tim and Duke want to know what the tea is between Jason and the cat and he always says “That’s between me, my spouse and my cat, not you three.”

You inevitably tell them anyways, as well as Cass, Steph and Barbara.

Also Damian loves Robin that cat. He requests play dates between his pets and yours. You always cave for the kid, much to Jason’s dismay. But then again, he caves for him too. He always does.

Speaking of kids, I don’t think you guys will necessarily have one for a long, long while.

You guys agreed that you have to be absolutely sure and ready. Financially, mentally, emotionally, physically, mentally. Kids are a big responsibility and neither of you want your kids to ever grow up in an unsafe and unstable environment.

When you guys are ready though, which won’t be for a long while, I’m sure you guys will pull a Bruce and adopt or foster kids. Teenagers first, along with their siblings if they have any. You’d never separate them from their siblings - hell, the both of you, along with some help from his family and friends, would track siblings down if needed.

Like I said though, that won’t be for a long while.

You two are perfectly content in your save haven apartment with your lovely black cat Robin.

Besides, if you guys had kids early, Robin would be jealous and attention starved.

Neither of you would want that.

i dont rlly have a tutorial since i always just wing it w my drawings JAFJSFJH most of the times i dont use references since i prioritize aesthetics over accuracy but i tend to base things off of what i see ppl look like irl, looking out the window usually gives u way more diversity than whatever the internet shows u JSDHFHDSF

best advice i can give u is give weight to the body and let the fat hang, plus learn the places where the fat usually is to have a better guide, also curved lines are ur best friend heree🙌🙌
