Ruminations on boss monster SOUL power transfer and aging

So, uh. That one bit of Gerson dialogue. What did he mean by this???

There are a few different headcanons/theories about how exactly this piece of lore should be interpreted – and, specifically, what its implications are regarding the children's growth rates in different scenarios. So, let's discuss it.

Personally, I'm REALLY not a big fan of the one that implies a boss monster whose parents die would be stuck as a child forever??? For instance, how would this theory of power transfer work with boss monster families that have 3+ children? Because like. Some couples having at least 3 children would be the only way for the population to to ever grow in size (unless we also headcanon that new boss monsters just spontaneously appear sometimes or something, which has absolutely no basis in canon lore). And by that logic, generations of this happening would eventually yield boss monsters who stop aging stupidly young. Not to mention, what about boss monster kids like Asriel, with no biological siblings? Would them getting both of their parents' SOUL power mean they go through super-puberty that turns them into double-mature adults??? So, yeah, not only would this all have pretty horrific implications regarding boss monster dating, but it'd also just be... really cursed worldbuilding that falls apart when you give it in any amount of serious thought. That's why I think it's a lot more likely that SOUL power transfer is simply that: a transfer of power.

I think Gerson's word choice is key here: "causing the child to grow" – rather than "mature", "age", or " develop" – "as the parents age" – as in, "into old age", becoming physically weaker due to giving up SOUL power.

I believe it's FAR more likely that, if a boss monster was orphaned, their growth would be stunted and their power would never reach its full potential – something more akin to malnutrition, rather than them literally being frozen in time; this would also happen, but to a lesser extent, to a boss monster who has to share their parents' SOUL power with more than one other sibling – and, inversely, a boss monster who's an only child would inherit both of their parents' power, growing far stronger than either of them separately by the time they become an adult.

This would also explain Asgore's absurdly high stats compared to Toriel's – like. ok. he has 8 times her total HP??? If we are to assume Asgore started out with similar stats to Toriel, plugging the numbers into the LV-based HP calculation formula the game uses for Frisk – 3/4 base HP + (1/4 base HP * LV) – gives us this equation: 330 + 110*LV = 3500. Solving for Asgore's hypothetical LV, then, gives us LV of roughly 29. Which might not sound that bad... until you realize the EXP required for getting to LV 19 is more than than all of the EXP it takes to get to LV 18 combined. Even assuming the EXP you get from killing just one human is equivalent to killing every monster in the Underground, while also assuming that the amount of EXP you need to level up no longer increases after you've reached LV 20 for some reason... it still wouldn't be enough to explain Asgore's dummy thicc HP bar after killing only 6 humans, if we are to assume his base HP is at all similar to that of Toriel. (Accounting for the possibility that monster history books lied, or at the very least didn't tell the full truth when stating that "not a single human SOUL was taken" during the war just leaves us with another problem: Toriel's also a veteran, and in fact seems a lot more comfortable with the idea of actively going to war as opposed to Asgore's approach of stalling for as long as possible, so if monsters actually were getting insane amounts of EXP by killing humans during the war, how come her stats are still so low? Killing even just a few humans would beef her up quite a bit; again, it's only once the numbers get higher that you see the sharp increase in EXP required to level up.)

I think Asgore was born into royalty, and Toriel married into it. Again: if a pair of boss monsters had only one child, that child would have the combined power of their 2 parents – now, let's suppose a family decided to do that for many generations.... with each new kid in such a family, the base power of the resulting offspring would grow more and more and more, wouldn't it? Perhaps one such family also has the means and prestige that allows them to easily find suitably strong partners for their kids, further increasing the rate at which the family's power would grow. (Also, the idea of Toriel originally being a commoner is further reinforced by the fact that the surname "Dreemurr" is confirmed to come from Asgore's side and, at least as far as we know, Toriel just... doesn't have her her own surname, as she switches to just going by "Toriel" after the two break up. Given that we only have about 3 examples of surnames within the Entirety Of The Underground, it appears that family names just aren't really a thing used within monster society, unless said family is really notable in some way).

...I may or may not be overthinking boss monster biology.

Episodes 27-29 - Ecaflip City (part 2)

I feel like if I was Keke, this would be my time to start running and fleeing.

While it's never explained what his lucky dice mean to him, they obviously mean a lot. He was ready to die for them, in the comic, after all.

While this did start out as something he did for Lou, it became very clear that really, this is about Kerubim's sense of being inadequate.

But what really feeds his sense of inadequacy is his love for Lou, and it's kind of not-the-best-manliest-coolest-adventurer thing, to say, "I think I'm not good enough for the woman who already agreed to marry me."

The baron, being a god's avatar, doesn't really have insecurities. He plays to put mortals in their place.

Kerubim, however, plays because he doesn't want to go to therapy.

As I've said in the previous liveblog, if Ecaflip is testing his willpower or morals... Then that's a very cruel test, rigged in a way that doesn't seem to expect Kerubim to win.

Especially with how conveniently Lou is made aware of the game, right before the moment Kerubim is about to make the biggest fucky-wucky of his entire life.

We can see, here, how much he downplays his love for Lou out of fear of being vulnerable, and appearing weak before other people. But all it does, is make him look like an asshole.

Really, I've seen so many theories on why they broke up, — from terminal illness, to "well what if she got pregnant, and thought that Kerubim, who can't shut up about how much he loves kids, (though mostly orphans,) wouldn't want to have one, so she left?" — and none of them consider the possibility that, perhaps, she would leave him after remembering what he did, as well as everything else that happened and how their relationship was in general.

(Or perhaps, and this is my personal "theory that doesn't have any proof behind it and is just me throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks", what if she Would Not Fucking Want to be with a demigod, who might just end up not ageing, amd will outlive her and their theoretical kids? Because I can totally see him hiding this from her until the last possible moment.)

(Hell, both of these possibilities can coexist! There are so many factors that probably led to their split, god.)

I think, if the reason why she left him is remembering this, the only reason she hadn't beaten him to death is also remembering that 1. she's been an asshole too, 2. him finding her is what helped her recover her memories to begin with.

Just... a fail relationship. They both failed in every single possible way. God.

As sad as I am, I think it's good that in the end, she left him. They both deserved better than this relationship.

okay some birthday headcanons just because:

Nora's 33 this year which is a scary time because well, she's growing old and like it isn't even one of those iconic birthday ages - y'know the sweet sixteen, the big 2-0, or even turning 30 and calling yourself 29 instead. One of those reverse birthdays.

So she makes a day out of it, y'know? Her birthday is like a guarded secret, she doesn't like making a fuss about it she isn't twelve-turning-thirteen but she will make a fuss about it internally.

But of course everyone remembers it. Nora also knows everyone remembers it because she gets an old Facebook alert for it and she is fucked on all fronts.

So she ends up going to a burger place and getting her friends food because one, it's a nice thing to do for your friends on your birthday and two, reverse Jedi mind tricks, baby. She's outplaying them in the "birthday surprise" field.

Except thank God for no birthday surprise because everyone's like "Yes, sure, your birthday, fine, but we need to get to work..?"

I'm just kidding, they have a small celebration. Trystan brings out a small cake for all of them to share. He is aware Nora isn't fond of big birthday celebrations. He is also aware she's like 33, which means she's probably the most boring person to be alive on planet earth right now, but either way it's fine.

The cake is just every inside joke packed into one edible form, which makes Nora use her detective prowess to point out the references before eating them. The burgers are a hit. Everyone raises their juice cups and sodas in her honour because there's not a single bad time for burgers.

Work day ends on half a day, considering it is a Sunday and they're only called for either filing new cases and answer the phone (or) emergency situations. Mafalda gives them the rest of the day off by 11. Luke erupts into huge cheers. They pretty much spend until all evening, drinking, swapping stories and laughing.

And that's it! Everything's happy-- except Nora has a seisimic-sized headache the next day and it is NOT because of the drinking.

Thank you so much for the wishes Max! I absolutely love talking about Nora. She might not have the best, most picture perfect birthdays, but with each passing year, she's trying her best and I absolutely love that for her.

so Olimar's this little middle-aged man (literally. the man's less than 2cm tall, despite what Smash might have you believe) from the planet Hocotate who's basically a space trucker. he works for Hocotate Freight, and flies a rocket all around space, unfortunately without a lot of breaks. he's doing his best to support his family, even if his schedule doesn't leave a whole lot of time for him to see them.

at one point, he gets a much-deserved vacation from work, and decides to take his beloved ship (technically it's Hocotate Freight property, but that's not the point), the S.S. Dolphin, and have some fun out there!

this is where Olimar's string of miserable luck begins.

while traveling, a meteor hits his ship, and forces him to make a crash landing on an unknown planet, later dubbed PNF-404. Olimar survives, but the Dolphin is a wreck, its parts scattered god-knows-where about the planet. to make matters worse, the planet's atmosphere contains high levels of oxygen (which is poisonous to Hocotatians) and his spacesuit's life support system will only last for 30 days. what fun!

as he begins his search for the Dolphin's lost parts, he stumbles upon a strange... creature? construct? entity? whatever it is, he decides it resembles his planet's onions, and thus dubs it an Onion. the Onion lifts itself out of the ground on three long legs, and spits a single seed into the earth. the seed quickly sprouts, and Olimar, ever the curious sort, feels the need to pluck it, and surprise!

that's no ordinary plant, that's a little fella! its shape reminds Olimar of the Pikpik brand carrots he quite loves, and so he dubs the creature a Pikmin. through working with the Pikmin to help them multiply by bringing Pellet Posies and the bodies of defeated beasts back to the Onion, he manages to recover his ship's engine, allowing him to at least lift off from the planet's surface overnight.

PNF-404's creatures, while still posing danger during the day, are largely nocturnal. staying on the ground overnight is extremely dangerous, and any pikmin left unattended overnight are quickly devoured- this is the origin of his final smash, End of Day! thankfully, in Pikmin, Olimar does not crash again in the morning, even if the Dolphin is still worse for wear. so yeah, Olimar's trying to recover his 30 (now 29) ship parts with the help of these strange creatures, discovering yellow and blue pikmin, and fighting many strange beasts along the way.

there are three possible endings to the first game, but for the sake of simplicity, I'm only going to cover the best one here. if you manage to collect every single ship part in time, he gets to go back home to Hocotate in his like-new S.S. Dolphin, maybe even pick up a souvenir for his kids real quick!

Glass! Hands down. Didn't drink soda of any kind as a kid, and plastic cups don't retain the cold or heat from drinks. Feels weird. And anything (especially milk) in a chilled glass (as in left in the fridge for a while before drinking) is just really Nice.

Ooo, now this is a tough one! I like both, some movies are my favorite pieces of media (like Arashi no Yoru Ni subbed version not dubbed the dub intentionally literally tried to hide that it's a gay love story, biggest comfort movie for me), but I prefer TV shows in general. I like getting immersed in long stories, getting to know the characters and setting and seeing them evolve for hour upon hour. It's hard for a movie to give its story enough time to breathe. TV shows have issues with never knowing when to end (capitalism driving them forward long after a satisfying ending could happen, or canceling them before there is any ending at all), but movies do that too.

Any position I can put my legs up! They do not like being on the floor!! I will legit stretch my legs to a different couch across from the one I'm on just to put my feet up, without realizing it!!!

On my desktop! Got over 200k stored on here now (after many years of not even a single paragraph), and damn does it feel nice to accomplish something~!

Oh! Um, hm. Little embarrassed to say this, because it's super niche and not all my lovelies (I find the phrase "loved ones" so mechanical, I use the term "lovelies" instead) do it, and I feel selfish saying it! But I think the best way to bond with me is to talk shop creatively. Brainstorm ideas, read rough drafts, swap brainrot. I made all my friends through shared interests, but my beautiful beta readers have a special place in my heart (shoutout to those of ya still on tumblr!). That is not to say I do not strongly bond with people purely through shared interests, though! I do! Most of my lovelies are not beta readers. It's just that writing, and my writing being read, makes me happier than anything else - I do my best to reciprocate though, because to do otherwise would make me a jackass!

40. weirdest thing to ever happen at your school?

Another challenging one due to my massive memory problems! I racked my brain for over an hour on this one (first thing that sprang to mind could be identifying information about which school I went to, second thing that came to mind was just Tragedy), but finally remembered something: one day in the locker room somebody stuck a shoe in my lunch box. A fucking shoe. I do not remember the rest of the details, or if I ever figured out why someone stashed a grey laceless sneaker in my lunch box! I was too confused to even be bothered by what I think was a bullying attempt, to be perfectly honest!

Now this is challenging because of a different problem: most days I do not have a sense of smell, due to a childhood injury to my face! So every soap scent is basically the same to me, except on the rare days my nose works. I guess if I could make my own, cinnamon would be lovely. Or cotton candy. Or granny smith apples. Or rosewater. Hm. I guess every nice scent is my favorite, since I get to experience them so seldomly.

48. if you were a fruit, what kind would you be?

Tempted to make a lewd joke by saying peach or pear, buuut if I were to answer honestly... I think I see myself as an apple: thin skinned with a core nobody should eat. My friends tell me otherwise, and I'm starting to come around to their positive affirmations, but self hatred is a habit that digs deep and dies hard.

Never really perused fonts! I guess Verdana, since I find it the easiest to read. All my writing documents are in Verdana. If I could get away with a font that was composed of kickass logo letters (such as from, say, Kingdom Hearts) tho, I would!

I didn't see this one in the ask game, and now I feel a little bad I didn't ask you this one! T.T Um! First and foremost: I am proud of my ability to judge people's character. Always have been. I am not perfect, I've made some bad calls, but in general I am pretty good at telling if someone is a good person after getting to know them for a while. Sniffed out some backstabbing bastards and secret creeps before the people around me could before, multiple times. Second: I'm good emotional support. I'm proud of how I can help people out of really deep psychological pits. It's sometimes a huge problem, though, because my lovelies come to me for their problems all the time and being everyone's shoulder to cry on 24/7 can drive you crazy. It did drive me crazy! But I've gotten better at saying "I'm too overwhelmed to help right now, if I try we'll both be wrecks" and they've gotten better at going to other people more often, so, progress. Still there for folks, just can't do it as much as I used to. Third: I'm proud of my writing lately. Took me so many years to get to this point, but I feel so damn good about what I'm making. I agree with you completely but I'd just like to bring up one point. On the face of it Hybe + the members are all promoting a BTS return because they know that's their cash cow and yes the members probably have some emotional attachment to the group but internally I'm sure Hybe knows there's a chance BTS' return may not be as glorious as they hope which is why I believe they're hedging their bets by promoting Jungkook to hell so that he can be the new BTS once he's back if the old one doesn't work out.

ARMYs aren't that loyal - a bunch of them didn't turn up for chapter 2 at all, many of the ones who are remaining are chart obssessed or casual fans. I have doubts about how many of them will last for 18 months. The BTS of today just doesn't have that spark or special sauce they used to have. I think it's a 50-50 chance they'll be able to regain their audience over their next cb. They're also getting old - in 18 months are members like Jin and RM and Tae going to want to keep doing choreos like Run BTS when they looked like they were over it pre hiatus? Also ARMYs can gush about being accepting of the members wanting to date but a bunch of them subconsciously like the image of all of them being single and obsessed with each other. Are members like Jin and Yoongi who'll be pushing mid 30s once they're back really going to stay single and not start families themselves? ARMYs expect everything to return to its 2018 format once they're back but I doubt these adult men are going to want to do variety shows like run bts (not the song) regularly once they're back. Some members already look worse for wear without makeup and I don't think that's going to get better either and we know a lot of fans are just here for their looks. Another bunch of fans are just going to wander off and become stans of younger groups who'll still act like crack heads on camera. When Weverse said Jungkook was going to be the breakout star and the only solid reason they cited was his age - I think there's some truth in that being a major reason by he's the labels chosen one.

I think they'll keep the whole group thing going but I think theres going to be a fundamental shift happening once they're back. Solo projects are definitely here to stay and I'm really glad Jimin had such a good experience with Face because he's going to definitely carry that over to his future projects. If he had put out something like Layover or Golden before he left, I might be tempted to just give up on him and this whole kpop thing completely. Anyway all this rambling just to say that I think Hybe are going to project that chapter 2 was just a blip and things will be back to pure group work in 2025 but I'm almost sure that the reality is solo work is here to stay.

Mmm armys are loyal just when it comes to jk specifically. lol. The amount of account on twitter who were on “rest” prior to seven dropping and all of a sudden popped back up for that release? I mean I always knew that would be the case cause a lot of armys are just diet solos who refuse to admit it in public, but for it to be so blatant without anyone calling it out is funny.

I know that the kpop system really doesn’t allow for idols to age into their careers but artists who perform past the age of 30 exist. There’s so many artists in the western industry that are in bts’ age group or older that have flourishing careers, married and or have kids. Yoongi will be 32 and Jin will be 31 when they get out. That’s still very young. Some of y’all really have to dead that way of thinking that anybody past 29 isn’t vital enough to invest into. And imo, genuine armys have never been fickle in regards to bts getting older, that’s always been on akagaes or the people who never really had any serious attachment to the group and turned into kpop stans. Even now, jk akagaes are mad because he’s giving up “the best years of his life” to go back to the group. Which already shows me they see him as expendable. People with that mindset that idols are only worth stanning while they’re in their 20’s were never in it past superficial reasons to begin with and not the type of fans I’d want the person I stan to have anyway.

BTS getting older doesn’t mean they’re gonna be completely different people. Their personalities might change a little based on new experiences, they already have compared to when they were younger, but at the core, I don’t think they will change for the most part. And hybe’s narrative that they’re trying to hitch onto jk being the most viable since he’s the youngest will always be silly. There’s only a 5 year gap between jin and jk at the eldest and barely 2 between jk, th and jimin at the youngest. That’s nowhere near big enough a gap for anyone to buy into that.

Armys will never be content with the idea of bts being in relationships, but I do feel that with th and jk the reaction will always be more visceral than the other members because those two are the ones that armys have constructed the y/n fantasy around. I know armys hate jennie, but regardless of who the woman th ended with would’ve been, they’d still be uneasy. No matter how armys try to distance themselves from being different than the average kpop stan, they’re really not.

It’s perfectly normal to not like some of music someone you are a fan of puts out but the thought of potentially throwing in the towel on them after one album is kinda strange to me. Especially if it’s their debut. Like I can see if it was a jk or th situation where those two have made it clear that they’re not in tune with solo artistry or in jk’s case, not caring about it at all, but I don’t think that’ll ever be the case with jimin. His ear for music is too good and he’s too meticulous about his craft. If face hadn’t turned out as good as it had, at least I’d know that jimin has the drive and artistic capabilities to execute an album so I’d definitely allow him the room to grow musically.

Solo work will continue because even while in the group, rapline were able to put out mixtapes. Now will I solo work post chapter 2 will be in the same vein with focused promotion and comeback maps or if it’ll be more like mono or D2 I don’t know. But chapter 2 does feel like a blip because honestly what came out of it? Rapline have already shown their artistic prowess in the past so it’s not like they were giving anything new there. So ultimately it was really meant for vocal line to display what they could do, yet jimin was really the only one out of the 4 that put out anything significant of artistic value. (barring that jin only had the opportunity to put out a single.) It actually did the exact opposite for some of the members in regards to what chapter 2 was initially supposed to be about which was growth. Some either stuck to the same M.O or just flat out did nothing. And being told to expect their best and evolved selves when they get back together as a group, when only 3/7 have proven range as artists is so anticlimactic in a way.

Everything just seems so trivial because they were still on a timer even when they were supposed to be on break. I don’t have any genuine excitement for their reunion either like I did before all this. I mean I’ll certainly tune into their comeback, but jimin’s really the only one I’m seriously interested in anymore.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned anything about this, but here it goes.

2 years and almost 2 months ago, a dear friend from my high school days passed away at 29. He was the pianist in my first ever legit piano trio in the conservatory. He was in uni while the other two of us were still in high school. We were the weirdest ever group. He was older, so he had a car and went to concerts, and he could play a great Beethoven and then a mainstream pop song. I was getting out there after my grandmother passed away and my mum (who's not a musician) encouraged me to listen to pop music kids my age enjoyed, and even arranged for me to go to meet the boyband I got into. I had modern interests like Eurovision with very specific people, one of them being the pianist in our group. The violinist had a very strict teacher, and strict parents, so she was less into mainstream and focused on classical music, but she inevitably got carried away by the two of us. Pair that with a teacher who just enjoyed that we were creative and proactive, and had very good chemistry, and we had a blast for a good year.

In 2018, our pianist called us to play at his aunt's wedding. One of the songs we played was Taylor Swift, because he was a massive fan. By that time, I liked Taylor, I knew all of her most famous songs, and I'd just spent months singing "Look what you made me do" (I had my reasons that aren't relevant here). He picked me up at home, and we spent the full ride talking about how talented she is, and what our favourite songs of hers were.

The only thing I can remember playing at the funeral is "august". And the only reason I remember it, is because someone in his family (cannot remember who) said that he loved Taylor so much (as if I didn't know that before) and that he adored that song, and that it would fit in a service. I also remember because I've been unable to listen to it for 2 years, because I start crying as my mind takes me back there.

Since then, all of the major release dates have been bittersweet for me. I think that, with the re-recordings, I figured he was just missing the new versions, and a couple of songs that matched the vibe. I really struggled the week Midnights was released, though, and I still think how fucking unfair it is that there's a whole album he'll never hear. But for some reason, 1989 hurt just as much. I'm not sure if it was because I was very obsessed with Wildest Dreams when we had that fangirling moment, but the moment it started playing, I lost it. And since I was already losing it, when the From the Vault songs started, there was no going back anymore.

As corny as it sounds, this is one of the cases where I really really hope there's a heaven where they can see and hear us, because it destroys my soul to think that the guy who made a "Love Story" arrangement to play because he knew the song so well that he found every single mistake in any online version, is missing all of this.

It's so obvious that he's seeing someone and that he's leaving all of these little clues for her online to let her know that he's thinking of her. He kept the early days from his relationship with Amber quiet too. We don't know how long he and Grimes were seeing one another, it was at least a month before met gala and I think the only reason he rushed it was to make Amber jealous at first. And he never officially announced his relationship with Natasha, they were forcably outed by paparazzi. He's never really been single, so him dating someone right now shouldn't comes as a shock to any of us. It's true, I would be more shocked if he were single. He's a billionaire playboy. He wants a girlfriend but he also wants to play on the side. The only difference between him and other billionaires is that he also wants to have babies on the side, not like an oopsie accidental lovechild he financially supports, but actively wants to have babies with various women to "spread his seed." This is a deal breaker for most women but I think he'll find one that will "love" him enough to put up with it and look the other way. Grimes comes to mind here because she's so attention thirsty and loves the fame she gets from him. But Grimes is also in her mid 30's. The last time a partner of his reached that age was Justine and he divorced her at about that age. His gfs get a couple of years younger every single time. He's basically Leonardo DiCaprio but for 29 yos. He likes grown women with fully developed brains, but not with the confidence that being in your 30's brings (studies show women over 30 are the most confident). I think that's because his gfs are emotionally settling for less, because he doesn't bring a lot to the emotion table, if that makes sense? He's busy with work, and while he's romantic, that's only because he does big gestures, like dates and holidays and gifts. Even Talulah said he worked a lot and she was left to help raise the kids and that he often forgot important events or to buy her gifts. He made up for it, but I doubt he's changed. He's not an everyday romantic type. So having a women with less confidence who is willing to put up with all his drama is attractive to him. Eventually it gets too much and they leave. Natasha was fine with him having a baby with Grimes while they dated, but not the secret twins. I agree that he's dating someone. It's probably some actress that is pushing 30. He's just doing what most celebs do and keeping it quiet at first. Whenever his relationships fail people laugh at him online and call him unlovable. So it's best to wait until the relationship is serious enough. Considering how famous he is, I'm actually surprised he's able to go incognito so often and the public not know who he's dating. And lastly, considering how often he's been dropping clues lately, there's a good chance he'll go to met gala with her. If it isn't Grimes, that will piss her off so much, but it could be Grimes, like another coming out thing at the met. Sorry for the long post!!

He sees you and the nurses. You have changed a lot. Hair style and you had a kid with you. "Conner" will said "how have you been"

"I've been alright how are you and the hospital doing" conner asked "we have been amazing and I'm good" will replied "what being you back to Chicago"

"It feels right to be here and I want to see how everything is" the darker haired man said

At that moment he hears a small laugh from the girl now in you Arms "let's get you to daycare darling" you say nuzzling you noes to the little girl

13. i tend to avoid the issue by. not writing them, i guess. but at the moment, maybe Donatello from TMNT. i like him a lot, but i still haven’t figured out how to write him.

14. all the titles come from Norma Jeane baker of Troy by Anne Carson! i really like that book, and it has some chapters focused on explaining a few ancient greek words, while still tying the explanation to the myth of Helen of Troy.

16. it’s actually very much inspired by a concept i’m exploring in an original novel of mine, which follows, among other things, the relationship between the protagonist and his aging father, gone mad after experiencing the death of three of his kids in a war. the novel itself is inspired by the last ronin so i guess the cycle is complete.

(3rd Person POV)(AN: The ages I'm listing are the newly adjusted ages that took me like 65 years to sit and calculate, so disregard any old ages that you might have in mind for the characters and just have these ones in mind)

This year for Harvestfest, all of Claire and Ryan's kids came back into Newcrest to celebrate at their childhood home. Since Eric and Valentina have the most children (and Valentina is the oldest daughter), they got to stay in at the house with their parents and single siblings whilst the rest got their accomodation in town. It was great having almost all of the extended family in Newcrest because it meant having their relatives essentially take over the town.

Names & Ages: Carter 31, Valentina 29, Alan 28, Celeste 27, Kristyn 25, Sabrina 25, Jarrod 21, Zachary 19, Conner 17, Jarrett 17

(AN: With all of them lined up like this, I've never really noticed that the kids are an even split of redheads and blondes. Genetics are wild innit)

This is this year's siblings portrait. Between these 10 kids there are 13 (almost 14) grandchildren that have been born, and hopefully many more to come as the years go on. Having all the kids be home means that the house is full of hymns, with everyone singing worship music to glorify the lord and worship him together. All 6 married children live away from home, so getting to see them all together is wonderful for the 4 kids living at home. Celeste, the oldest and only girl still living at home is relishing her single season of life. She spends her time working as a nanny for various church members, when she's not doing that she's out of town visiting her siblings or volunteering her time with different ministries. The Lord hasn't brought anyone special into her life yet, but she's content with her gift of singleness. Zachary is the next oldest boy at home and he's currently working full time with a local contracting company run by a man that attends Newcrest Baptist as well, he's got someone that might end up being special but for now they're just friends. Conner and Jarrett, the youngest 2, are almost done with highschool and are thinking of what they'd like to do. Both have ideas of going to a bible college to study either software design (for conner) and accounting (for jarrett), they're hoping to study online or to go attend colleges neat family that they can stay with.

These are the 6 married siblings and their spouses:

Carter (31) and Madelynn (28) live in Willowcreek with their 3 children: Lester (7), Fitzwilliam (1), and their newest addition baby Alana. Carter continues to work for the Willowcreek Police Department whilst Madelynn remains at home to homeschool Lester and care for the home and children.

Valentina (29) and Eric (31) live in Brindleton Bay with their 6 children: Aria (8), Ansel (6), Abbott (2) & Asher (2), and their newest additions Abigail and Adele. Eric continues his work in freelance software engineering work whilst Valentina focuses her energy on homeschooling the kids and taking care of the house and the blooming garden they've developed. When she's not busy doing that she's working on her music and teaching music classes here and there. In the past year they've gotten chickens and have been working with the children on learning how to care for animals, with talks of a dairy cow in the future.

Alan (28) and Tessa (21) live in San Myshuno with their 2 (almost 3) children: Charity (2) and Edgar (1). Alan continues his work for Christian Critics Association whilst Tessa stays at home with the children, most recently preparing to welcome their newest blessing to the family. (AN: She had the baby like a day after Harvestfest, it was a little girl named Faith. With Tessa's scheduling she should be pregnant again by the new year 🥴)

Kristyn (25) and Gregory (28) live in Oasis Springs with their daughter Kayla (2). Gregory continues his work for his father's company whilst Kristyn stays home with little Kayla. They chose Harvestfest to announce that they're expecting another little one!

Sabrina (25) and Tucker (26) live in Brindleton Bay with their son Campbell (6 months). They opted to not join his family on their music tour to stay home and bond with the baby, but did join for a few tour dates that were close enough to home that they could travel.

Jarrod (21) and Madison (19) live in Evergreen Harbour with their newborn son Myles. Myles joined the family just a few weeks before Harvestfest, so he was the youngest family member at the festivities (until Tessa's baby was born). Jarrod works for a construction company with a few other men from their new church, and they're excited to settle in nicely as a family of 3.

What do you think the age difference between Martin, Sergio and Rafael?

Premise: since the show never gave us any real clue about the characters' ages, except confused and contradictory hints, this is both based on speculations and my own headcanon.

It took me a while to figure everything out, but I hope this is an accurate enough prospect.

So, let's start with Andrés.

I clearly remember his age in the show being addressed when the police showed his files & his mugshot.

I did a quick online research and it turned out that, according to them, he was born on 7/04/1975, which would make him only 41 during the Mint heist.

I'm almost sure that at some point Piña just decided to ignore his own canon and pretend that Andrés was more around Pedro's age (who's born in 1975).

This for several reasons, mostly concerning coherency and his significant others: Rafael's own existence, his long-standing friendship for Martin, and last but not least, the spinoff, where after all they can't make Pedro look like a teen.

Even like that, continuity issues are not fully solved - but we'll discuss about them in a while.

Now, Sergio.

Searching online, there are no evidences about his real age. This is partly justified in the show, stating that "he has stopped renewing is ID at the age of 19", so it's pretty normal not to have this kind of information about him.

The only guessing we can make is based on his father's death: according to Money Heist Wiki, Jesus Marquina was shot on 5/02/1987.

Sergio was arguably 9 or 10 back then (even though the kid actor who plays him physically looks around 12 - he's tall for his age and even has a hint of beard).

That would mean that he and Andres only have 2 years apart, which honestly doesn't make sense at all to me.

They've always acted around eachother like they had a huge age gap, maybe even a decade, which is also my own headcanon when writing fics. I've always liked the idea of Andrés taking care of Sergio when he was a kid, it gives us a hint of humanity among all the character's shades, and above all, it's also what they seem implying in the show most of the time.

Why call "little brother" a sibling who's around your age? Why mention that Andrés raised him after their parents death? And how will they justify Sergio's absence in the spinoff if he's already an adult?

So, even though the timeline looks quite messy here, I like to think that Sergio & Andrés have a certain age difference. Once again, if you think of it, everything can be cleared up assuming that when he dies, Andrés is in fact in his late 40s.

Third, Martín.

We know nothing about him, nor his age, nor his birthday date, nor anything about his past. The guy's literally a ghost before we got to know him in S3, and in a couple of scenes/lines we even hear the police wondering who he is, which proves that he's probably a clean record.

For some reason, the Wiki claims he's in his late 30s, but that's probably speculation since I can't remember a single statement about his age in the show.

We could assume that he's maybe around Rodrigo age (born in 1976), so 42 during the Bank heist.

Ultimately, my own headcanon is that he's almost certainly younger than Andrés, but maybe a little older than Sergio.

Of course this doesn't make much sense if we keep taking for granted that Sergio is only 2 years younger that Andrés, but like I said, I'm more and more convinced that this was a continuity error and Andrés is older than what previously stated.

And now, the sore spot: Rafaél.

We're forced, here, to rely on the hints featured in the promo pre-s5, where it's clearly stated that the guy is 33.

I like to think - just because that works better narratively speaking - that he's 33 only during the Bank heist, which makes him 28-29 around the Copenhagen heist.

The real matter here is his age gap with Andrés: once again, if we keep assuming that he was 41 when he died, that would mean that he became a father at the age of 11.

Like... No. Just no.

And even assuming that the character is Pedro's age, so 4 years older, makes no sense at all: 15 still looks like a very young age to get "married" - like he implied he was - and I'm almost sure that a minor would face several major issues trying to get married underage.

Andrés also mentions an affair with his french teacher when he was 18, so he definitely finished the school and wasn't married at the time.

He must've been at least 19 to meet and get pregnant Rafael's mother, which means that they're almost two decades apart.

In conclusion, if we think it over, the only way all of this vaguely makes sense is assuming that when he died, Andrés was at least 50 (Pedro's age when they were filming).

That would make Sergio 40 and Martin maybe 43-44 - the timeline is plausible to me.

Final Warning: this whole over-analysis could be affected by the fact that I'm a sucker for fics where kid!Sergio is raised by youngadult!Andrés.

What can I do? Give me my wrecked siblings and no one'll get hurt.
