Helloooo, I'm Saga!

Just a 22 year old danish girl known as SagaSolejma on here, but you might possibly know me under the nickname "that tgirl with the weirdly wide birthing hips for someone who was born a boy" depending on which social circle you know me from. I like weird books and comics, I play a lot of boardgames, I watch movies so I can write essays about them, I like swimming, I have a very deep love for all animals, but especially all the creepy ones. I even keep a giant tanzanian tailless whip scorpion as a pet. She's called Solejma :}

My favourite food is pizza with mushrooms, favourite musician is St. Vincent, favourite song is Touch by Daft Punk, my favourite book is House Of Leaves by Mark Z Danilewski, favourite movie is The Truman Show and favourite video game is Pathologic.

favourite things: 2023 edition

last year i made one of these and i thought it'd be fun to make another one. i have a notion spreadsheet with all the media i watch/read/play throughout the year (not just things that came out this year!) and i give them ratings. these are the highs (and some of the lows) of 2023 (not in order).

Games

Tunic - such a great and beautiful game that i do not want to spoil. seriously, play it. if you like zelda, exploration, solving puzzles, and cute little foxes, then it's a must

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - what can i say, i love a zelda

Portal 2 - just an even more excellent sequel to an excellent game

TV

Alice in Borderland - i didn't know what to expect at first but it was excellent and highly addictive

Not Me - my introduction to thai BL (for better and also definitely for worse lol). anyway this show changed my brain chemistry. it has everything: gays, a twin switch situation, leftism, arson, rooftop kiss... you know

Bad Buddy - speaking of rooftop kisses...... if you know you know. anyway this is also a thai BL and it's still rotating in my brain. i rewatched it almost immediately, that's how good it was

The King's Affection - cheesy historical kdrama about a crown prince who is secretly a woman, with a swoon-worthy romance and political intrigue. this one's for the bisexuals (after all, the male love interest falls in love with the prince before he finds out it's a woman)

Vinland Saga - this anime fucking wrecked me. season 2 had me crying every single episode. thorfinn is my new child and i WILL name my future cat after him

The Devil Judge - a kdrama about a dystopian south korea with a fucked up justice system. anyway kang yohan character of all time. oh and also toxic homosexuality (affectionate)

Books

The Poppy War trilogy by R. F. Kuang - what an excellent series to get me back into fantasy series. it was not without faults, but i was hooked anyway

Babel by R. F. Kuang - i read this brick in 5 days straight. it's beautifully written and has such interesting things to say about language and colonialism. again, it has flaws but i wasn't bothered, i was obsessed with this book

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon - i didn't realise how much i missed high fantasy until i read this. it has lesbians, dragons, a bitter old homosexual, magic, and did i mention dragons and lesbians?

He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker Chan - the sequel to She Who Became the Sun, my favourite book of last year. this sequel fucking DELIVERED. i went insane about it multiple times. it's a must read

Graphic novels/manga

Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama - i started this manga 2 years ago, but since it's still ongoing and I've read new chapters this year, it counts for this year as well

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run by Hirohiko Araki - not finished with it yet but it is truly as good as everyone says it is

The Adventure Zone: The Eleventh Hour by the McElroys and Carey Pietsch - i know not everyone likes the taz comics, but i do, i think theyre great adaptations, and this one looked incredible

Movies

Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse - not as good as the first one, but still really good. beautifully animated and extremely entertaining

Bonus: the lowest of the low, titles that earned my 'sucked shit' rating

Theory of Love - amazing that out of the 3 thai BLs ive watched, 2 managed to make it on my favourites list, and one of them was some of the worst television i've ever seen

Where the Crawdads Sing - read the book for book club last year, we all hated it, and now we decided to watch the movie for a laugh. it also sucked

Alright, it's the end of the episode and some of y'all are wondering who the heck is this guy that Luffy is putting a whole lot of trust in to take Ace's Fruit while he deals with saving Traffy from Doffy's clutches?

Again, this is one of those situations where because the Summit War Saga didn't air on TV, you're going to feel left out. Anyway, Lemme introduce you to Sabo...

So, after the War of the Best concluded, we learned there was a lot more Luffy's childhood after Shanks left him with the Strawhat. Garp, being the ever-loving responsible Grandad, left Luffy in the care of some mountain bandits who were also taking care of Ace. Ace also had a friend who grew up in nobility named Sabo.

Long story short, the three (Ace, Sabo, and Luffy) developed a strong brotherly bond.

After a bad incident involving Arson, Sabo decided to strike out on his own to become a pirate. Unfortunately, he chose the wrong time to set out to Sea as a Celestial Dragon was just arriving in their own ship. In CD fashion, they shot his down and Sabo was presumed dead at the scene.

Though, the Revolutionary Army's ship did stop by to check on the wreckage later on...

Hopefully, this helps until the show explains stuff in greater detail.

Alright Book Lovers

I have a series recommendation for all of you.

If you like:

- Second World fantasy (as in, not our world)

- Magic

- Edwardian/Victorian aesthetics

- Complex stories that will have you cracking out the Red String Board

- Canonically/explicitly Queer characters (including Shield Lesbians, Ace detectives, Bisexual retired spies, healthy polyamorous relationships involving 7 or more people, and even trans characters!)

- So many female characters that one of the books even fails the Reverse Bechdel Test

- a wide array of sub-genres

Then may I present to you,

The Maradaine Saga

The Maradaine Saga is 14 core books that take place in the city of Maradaine, plus two novellas and one full length novel taking place in other parts of the same world. AND COUNTING (this series is still ongoing!)

The core 14 books contain Four main casts and their respective genres:

The Thorn of Dentonhill stars Veranix Calbert, magic student by day, vigilante hero by night, determined to rid his neighbourhood of efitte, the toxic drug sold by crime lord Willem Fenmere, who killed Veranix's father, and deliberately overdosed his mother. Aided by Kaiana, whose father also succumbed to efitte, and Delmin, his fellow magic student, and his cousin Colin, the street gang member.

A Murder of Mages follows Minox Welling, an inspector for the Maradaine Constabulary, a genius, if socially awkward, and considered a jinx around the station, because he is secretly an untrained mage. Assigned to be his partner is Satrine Rainey, mother of two, struggling to make ends meet with her husband who was gravely injured in the line of duty. Formerly of Druth Intelligence, she is 15 years out from her time as a spy, and forges her paperwork to get the only job she can do that will pay the bills- becoming the first woman inspector on the force.

The Holver Alley Crew- when Holver Alley goes up in flames, killing dozens of people and destroying the homes and businesses of many more, brothers Asti and Verci Rynax discover it was arson, and are determined to use their skills as thieves to track down who destroyed their neighbourhood. Asti, a former spy for Druth Intelligence, retired because of his recent escape from an enemy prison where he was tortured until it broke his mind, and Verci, husband and father and inventor of all sorts of gadgets. Recruiting old friends and new, they set to perform daring heists to make the arsonists pay.

The Way of the Shield- Dayne Heldrin is easy to spot in a crowd- towering at 7ft tall, and in his blue Tarian Uniform- he is a veritable Knight of the Modern era. He is a candidate in the Tarian order, a historic organization upholding values of Chivalry and Defending the Innocent, Shield on arm. He has just returned from being overseas, where his mentor was killed by the Gearbox Killer, a maniacal murderer who builds elaborate clockwork contraptions, designed to kill. Dayne barely survived, and his advancement to an Adept Tarian is in doubt. He befriends a young Initiate, Jerinne, and begins to mentor her, pushing her to be stronger, and uphold the values of the Tarians. Political Conspiracy is afoot, however, as a shadowy organization has fashioned themselves after the Grand 10, ten historic figures that helped turn the country of Druthal into what it is today.

All of these books take place in the same city, at the same time, and as the series goes on, recurring characters and crossovers begin to appear as these ragtag bunch of do-gooders find allies in each other.

I cannot stop talking about this series, its so good! The worldbuilding is immaculate (after all, the author, Marshall Ryan Maresca, is one of the hosts of the podcast Worldbuilding for Masochists), the pacing will keep you gripping your seat for dear life!

The Long-Awaited PART SIX of Margin's Heroforge Saga: Breath of the Wild

IT IS HERE! And I am SO PROUD of it. Seriously, I think these might be my favorite designs yet- and that is SAYING something, considering how much I liked doing Hyrule Warriors and Wind Waker. I hope you guys enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them :) The Champion Descendants, I decided, I'm going to put off for now and I would put them in a potential TotK set instead.

Also. I'm going to put a cutoff right here because this post is VERY long, for not only are there pictures, but RAMBLES as well. it is NOT for the faint of heart. You have been warned.

Luminary. Oh my gosh, I am SO HAPPY that Heroforge afforded options for his repaired eye. His hair has grown, because... well... hair doesn't stop growing while you're in stasis... he has scars from his final stand, and he's dressed MUCH more simply than he was before the Calamity, but he's happy. That's important, as you'll see below. Also, yes the torch is a nod to the arson joke. I am obligated by law to include it. No, seriously, there are government agents standing behind me watching as I type this (/j).

Luminary (Pre-Calamity). If you take a gander above, you'll see that this tunic has more gems and silver accents, but does not have the pattern the present-day pictures display. That was purposeful. The thought was that it was so damaged during the Calamity that the Sheikah had to repair it- and they did so by improving it by giving it a pattern (because, you will notice, all the other Champions- minus Zelda- have patterns on their Champion Attire). Link's didn't have a pattern- which was a nod by me to how his role as Swordsman dehumanized him, and made him less himself. Despite all the prestige that surrounded his role (symbolized by the gems... which i am now realizing you can't see well but trust me, they're there... and the silver), it did nothing but add to the crushing weight on his shoulders, causing him to retreat even further into himself.

Sunshine. UGH. I LOVE HER OUTFIT. I WANT HER OUTFIT. In all seriousness. Please draw your attention to the Sheikah Slate which I so lovingly crafted (if you look in the second picture you can kind of see the eye on the screen) and her Silent Princess earrings. Also, you'll note that her hair is very pale and her skin is very dark. Well, this comes from my headcanon that she's half Sheikah- Rhoam is, in fact, a Sheikah, and Impa, Purah, and Robbie are not just Zelda's best friends, but also, in fact, her cousins! This also gives some background to her interest in Sheikah Tech- because she wants to reconnect with her Father's side of the family.

Sunshine (Pre-Calamity). Notice that she still wears the Silent Princess earrings (which represent her ability to act autonomously), but her outfit is much more formal (i tried to be as accurate as possible to her in-game princess dress because I love it) and includes the Royal Red. She also has a dark red ruby in her crown- if you've followed this series since the start, you may recognize it from before. In the other sets, this dark red gem (along with a dark red metal not featured in this set) is only ever worn by Sheikah characters. Well, not only is it worn by Zelda here (which is plausible, considering she is of Sheikah descent) but it is also worn on Luminary's pre-Calamity belt (which I am telling you since you cannot see it)- which represents how the Royals have claimed the Sheikah, and by extention their culture, as belonging to them. Take that as you will.

Sunshine (Prayer Dress). OH SWEET NAYRU HOW I LOVE THIS ONE. OKAY. So, as you can tell, this shot takes place at the MOMENT Zelda's powers are unlocked- hence the golden sigils on her arms and chest, the golden tears streaming down her cheeks, and the golden strands in her hair. But take a look at her attire- it looks as canon-accurate as I was able to get (because I love the prayer dress), but notice that her silent princess earrings, which represent her autonomy, are conspicuously missing. Instead, they are replaced with gold earrings (that were as close as I could get to a triforce shape), showing- much like the lack of a pattern on Luminary's Pre-Calamity tunic- that, while she's in the role of the failed Sacred Princess, anything resembling her individuality has been utterly stripped away from her. She has been reduced to nothing more than a tool to be used.

Zelink (ignore the glowy thing. there is literally NOTHING i can do to get rid of it.) YES. Okay. I have little to say about this one- because it speaks for itself- other than that the minute I saw that there was an option to hold a frog I knew EXACTLY how I was posing these two. Thusly. There they are, in all their glory. Also please note Link's expression. I find it hilarious.

Mipha. Ah yes, now we move on to the Champions- who I am quite proud of. For the record, Mipha's face was probably the most complicated thing I fanagled with on this entire set, except maybe Urbosa's armor. Anyway, her head fins were inspired by her lionfish concept art, and her crown was modeled after the one Laruto wears in my Wind Waker set. Also, her Champion's pattern is fish scales in shades of baby blue- I've always liked the idea that the Champions each wore a different shade of blue (and in this case different patterns because I couldn't get the actual insignia on their garb) to symbolize the different races (represented by the different shades) uniting under a common goal (represented by the fact that they're all wearing blue). Finally, notice the green Poe shading, which I added to all the Champions since. You know. They're dead. But I think it looks really cool :) Also I just love Mipha, she's such a sweetheart and I am REALLY proud with how she came out. Heroforge may not be the best for Rito but if you know how to hack the system you can get some really good Zora out of it :)

Revali. Oh my word. To fanagle with this bird man was just. He was, in true Revali fashion, difficult. But I ended up taking the same route I did with Medli in the Wind Waker set by giving him bird characteristics :) His Champion's garb is Indigo, and you can't see it very well because of how I posed him but since there was no option to give the scarf a pattern, I put it on his skirt thing- it's a pattern of stripes and circles. I am quite proud of his shading and of the feather attachments on his head :)

Daruk. OH MAN. I LOVE HIM. One thing that can be said for Heroforge is that, though it's bad at making Rito and you have to stretch to make Zora, GORONS are quite easy to make and SUPER FUN. Also, not only does he have the Poe shading but the rocks protrudig from his skin also glow with that green light- like Luminous Stones! He's smiling but it's kind of hard to see because of his 'stache. Also, the Boulder Breaker came out lovely. His Champion garb is in shades of Navy, with a geometric diamond pattern that reminded me of gemstones. Also, at this point I want to call attention to the fact that, much like the champion garb, each character's landscape on their base is slightly different, symbolizing the fact that the Wild has many different ways of showing itself, which is one of the core themes of the game :)

Urbosa. OH MY WORD. HER ARMOR TOOK ME A SOLID 20 MINUTES. BUT I AM SO PROUD OF IT. For reference, like how the Sheikah have those special gems and metal, the Gerudo have a very specific armor set that I have designated just for them- the armor she wears on her shoulders and boots, specifically (other pieces can be swapped but pretty much every Gerudo will be wearing those pauldrons and boots, albeit in different colors. See Nabooru for reference- and yes, I did make them purposely similar-looking). You can't see it well because of the Poe Light, but her Champion's garb is also in the pattern that I specifically designated for the Gerudo; Nabs doesn't have a good display of it but you can see it more clearly on Ganondorf. It's in shades of Turquoise because it reminds me of the desert sky.

And with that, Breath of the Wild is done! Any thoughts? Don't be afraid to share them! The last installment in this first leg will be the Classic Games- you know, The Hyrule Fantasy and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. I'm really excited for those and I think you'll like them too. And then I'll put up another poll and do the next round of games, because you guys seem to really be enjoying these!

I have a couple, they are all constantly being developed

Kainan "Varg" Stanko, a half orc (half something else) barbarian who was raised in poverty and by gangs of bandits. He starts adventuring so he can afford to make a better life for himself. He's chaotic neutral, and covered from head to toe in scars- each one with their own story. I've been working on him the longest (8 page backstory blorbo).

Bramble Beetlewing, a fairy cleric who loves to party. He's and extremely feminine guy with bright pink wings and braided hair. A total hippy stoner who just wants to be gay and do arson.

Quin the bigender human paladin (he/she/they) with long as fuck dreads and a heart of gold. Also autism.

Deale, a butch lesbian albino dragon born who uses sie/ser/sern pronouns. Raised as a knight sie was assigned to a beautiful princess who sie fell in love with. After a very tragic event they were separated from each other, and now Deale has dedicated ser life to protecting others. Oh and sie has a prosthetic leg that I can never draw right.

Leandre Celeste, a high elf non-binary gay boy rogue. Cut off from their family's vast fortune, Leandre has to find a way to provide for themself out on the real world. Which is hard because they've never done a hard day's work in their life, so they mostly rely on stealing and swindling from others to get by.

I've also been working on DnD campaigns I want to DM. And I've even started developing my own ttrpgs, a monster of the week esque one and a star trek ish space opera saga, that I've had a lot of fun with! I love creating stories and choose your own adventure type things.
