Cyberpunk Headspace

The City

The main headspace setting here is the large, cityscape-like space. A headmate could be anywhere here doing anything that their heart desires! There is something within this place for anyone of any age with any personality. In addition to the advantage of having a plethora of activities to do here, there is also the beauty aspect. One could sit outside on a rooftop of a building or the balcony of a skyscraper and just look over the sight of the headspace lit up by thousands of bright, neon lights.

Transportation

There are many modes of transportation within this headspace. If one still wishes to remain traditional, there are still normal cars, trains, buses, etc. However, if one wants to explore just how neat this place can get, then one might experiment with things like hover trains, flying cars, airships, etc. It all depends on personal preference. The interior of these modes of transportation are nothing short of remarkable, though. Custom options that you could only imagine to be true today.

The Café

The café is a place that's open any time of the day - 24/7, 365. This way, any headmate can eat at any time. We understand there can be those who may like to eat at normal times throughout the day, but we also understand that there may be headmates who like to have midnight snacks as well.

The menu is extensive, taking care to consider everyone's individual preferences and any allergies that headmates may have. From crêpes and waffles to burgers and sandwiches to steaks and pastas and even desserts, this café has everything to offer! Not only does this café serve as a place to eat, but it also serves as a place for fun. Either scattered about or having a back room completely dedicated to them, there are both classic arcade games lining the walls as well as video gaming systems and virtual reality headsets. Whether you're waiting for your food or simply coming in for a bit of entertainment, there is a game here for all ages.

Bedrooms / Meeting Space

Imagine having a space to call your very own in this headspace. A place where you can not only hang out and relax, but also turn into a place that can serve as a meet-up without even having to leave the comfort of your own bed.

Bedrooms can, of course, be designed to a headmate's personal liking; however, imagine the possibilities. Bright lights lining the perimeter of the ceilings (or dimmer lighting if a headmate has a harder time with bright lights), colours of any choice. Also, forget about whiteboards, calendars, and to-do lists that are only going to get lost. Instead, say hello to screens built right onto your bedroom walls that hold all of the information you need to know for any occasion and any scenario. The best part about this is that if you want these monitors off for any reason, you can simply power them down with the click of a remote, and the screens are no longer visible. Imagine their effect to be similar to a hologram. A computer monitor or two are set up in the room - these could be for multiple purposes. One could be solely for online gaming while the other could be for meetings with other headmates.

Speaking of headmate meetings, they're made easy here. Meetings can take place anytime, anywhere. The best part is that not everyone needs to be in the same place at the same time. In a headspace like this, everyone has a high-tech communication device on them at all times. Headmate A can be in their bedroom and meet up on the computer while Headmate B can join in this meeting from their phone or watch while out for a walk. Meanwhile, Headmate C is driving - their car can describe exactly what's being demonstrated if needed while also presenting them physically to other people in the meeting so they can be present as well. There are no limits to what can be done here. I suppose if you wanted to be really advanced, teleportation could be a thing, and everyone could simply teleport to their pre-determined meeting place if everyone wanted to meet face-to-face.

The Oceanside

A special place to be in this headspace is the oceanside. Away from all the craziness of the city, this is somewhere that headmates can come to relax and take in the calming beauty of nature. The sand can be felt beneath one's feet, getting cooler and more damp the closer you get to the water. Footsteps are left behind you, though quickly washed away by the water rising and falling back with the tides. Here, you're not only met with the outstanding bioluminescence of the water but also the reflection of the distant city lights on the water in front of you. Laying down on the sand, one can close their eyes and listen to the waves crash, and feel the sea air brush up against their face - run through their hair.

Without so much light from the city, you can also see the stars above you in the evening, noting all of the constellations and galaxies that loom above.

I can't predict what will happen in the anime/manga (it's such a wild ride haha!) but I do hope they give Okarun more chances to go wild/creature mode, whatever that might look like. ^^

Could we request a high fantasy headspace? Our innerworld is very reminiscent of Dungeons and Dragons but we have a hard time processing what actually exists within it, so we thought this might help!!

Hey, Anon! We're so sorry for the wait on the headspace - there has been soooooo much going on, and it's left us quite burnt out. While not super knowledgeable with D&D, we've been trying to learn recently, so we hope that this suffices!

High Fantasy

The Castle

You stumble across a castle that acts as the Main Headspace. With the space having been around for many, many years, some overgrowth may be present. However, it is far from an eyesore - it's actually a rather beautiful sight to behold. Banners are hung about the exterior of the castle, some torn, some simply worn with a burnt orange colour that has faded with time. The castle itself seems to sit upon a floating island surrounded by many other, smaller, floating islands. All of them are connected by bridges that allow you to behold the clouds and world below you. Let's just hope no one is afraid of heights.

The Meeting Room

The room where all of the important discussions take place within the headspace. With a few dragon heads mounted on the wall around the room made from various types of stone, it provides quite a fantastical vibe. The steel chandelier that hangs above the table is lit by candle light, allowing the space to have enough lighting to see, but not enough light to be overstimulating - this may be good for any headmates who have trouble with light sensitivity and may get overstimulated by bright light. The table is round with chairs placed around the circumference, providing a sort of Knights of the Round Table type feel. There's space for everyone here, and plenty of room for any demonstrations that may need to be performed. The stone walls enclosing the room keep the room cool so it doesn't get too warm and clammy while these meetings are occurring. Depending on if anyone in the headspace practices religion, this may also be used as a place of worship.

The Garden

In the garden, there are many things growing. From fruits to vegetables to spices galour, there's nothing that won't grow in this garden! Little garden gnome statues are scattered around the garden, and rather large mushrooms of all shapes and colours sprout around as well. Vines and plants grow up and over stone arches and arbors within the stone garden walls, and there seems to be a working system around said garden. Various types of handcrafted pulley systems and similar technology allow for harvesting and watering of plants as well as the transporting of these goods from one floating island to another if need be.

The Bedrooms

The bedrooms consist mainly of beds made from natural gathered materials weaved and put together in a way that forms both a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing place to sleep. They hang from the ceilings, though usually not too far off the ground, depending on how comfortable some of your headmates may be with heights. Above you is a sort of skylight that allows for natural sun and moonlight to shine into the room. This also makes stargazing quite a wonder for those who may enjoy that as a hobby. Another pulley system may be in order for pulling up a sort of curtain to cover the skylight window if one doesn't want to be woken up by sunlight in the mornings. Though, it's a fantasy headspace! So this could also very well be done with a simple thought from one's brain. In the closet may be varying types of handcrafted clothes that fit each headmate's individual personality. Paintings of different scenery from around the headspace or elsewise may be hung around the room depending on the preference of the headmate(s) that are staying in the room. One thing is for sure - freedom of expression is clear in these rooms.

The Kitchen / Dining Area

The kitchen and/or dining area within the headspace may hold a bar for drink making. Now, these don't necessarily need to be alcoholic drinks (though they can be) - this can simply be for making variations of different and fun non-alcoholic drinks. A long table that is meant to hold a feast of different foods is definitely in order as everyone has different food preferences in some way or another, we would imagine. Here, there's a seat for everyone to dig in and talk about their days or anything else. We get the sort of vibe that there may be heads and hides of differing animals displayed around the room here. Hung overhead are numerous lanterns that illumiate the room and add the feeling of home and company, making it the perfect place to share a warm meal with your family of headmates. Once the meals are done, there also could be a space directly off from the dining area and bar that allows for hanging out, dancing, and just generally having fun! A space to be rowdy and crazy without it disturbing those who may not be as keen on that behaviour.

The Armoury

As you enter the armoury, you're met with everything that may be needed by headmates who relate to the interests of paladins and barbarians. Mounted upon walls, shelves, and racks are weapons of various types and sized. Greataxes, handaxes, javelins, shields of all shapes and suzes, etc. Armours crafted from many different materials are provided and displayed here as well, kept for a time where anyone may need them.

The Library

What would a fantasy headspace be without the library? This grand space allows for imagination to run wild among headmates of any age. With books of every genre, there's something here for everyone! Sometimes, this library knows what you want before you do, books from the seemingly endless shelves of this room floating their way down into your hands. You may even find some magic scrolls lying around or tucked into some crevices around the room. Accompanying the magic and wonder of this library, though, is the perfect space to curl up with your book and read or research. A fireplace that emits a wonderful light and the perfect amount of heat to keep you comfortable provides the warm and fuzzy feeling one often looks for when settling down to read a good book. In front of this fireplace are a few different chairs made from only the comfiest and most cushioned material, embroidered with ancient designs. A few of these chairs are rocking chairs, allowing headmates who may like to rock or move during their journey into another world to do so.

So I’ve seen a little bit of dialogue from Ford, but how does he speak? Like what is his speaking mannerisms? Is it all gibberish? Does he stutter? Does he repeat words?

Hello, hello again, tiny cyclops in my inbox!

As I mentioned in this post where I go a bit more in depth on Ford's brain injury, Ford suffers from aphasia! Which is basically the loss of one's ability to express language and communicate, while not losing the ability to understand it. But I'm sure you already knew this; and if not, the more you know!

How does he speak? It really depends when you were to go up and talk to him in the timeline. His speech mannerisms the few following years right after his head trauma is very different from how he speaks now in canon! He's had 30 years to recover, after all.

Ford's speech right after his injury was practically non-exitstent. He was smacked in the face with all of the textbook definition symptoms of aphasia, ramped up to 100.

Speaking in short or incomplete sentences.

Speaking in sentences that don't make sense.

Substituting one word for another or one sound for another.

Speak unrecognizable words.

Have difficulty finding words.

Conversations with him back then were not "gibberish" per se, but more so just... slow. And frustrating for everyone involved, although no one could ever be more frustrated than Ford himself. I mean, can you imagine? He could barely say anything without monumental effort, and whatever meager words he managed to squeeze out of his throat were lackluster, to say the least. Every part of his speech were hindered: grammar, pronunciation, heck, even the tone, volume and rythm of his speech didn't always come out correctly.

Due to how recent his brain injury was, there was also the added physical impairments to his speech. The muscles involved in producing speech were weakened, affecting Ford's control and clarity of his words (this is also called: dysarthria).

From an outsider's perspective, listening to him would have felt a little like listening to an extremely corrupted audio file, or a faulty record player. He would often take long pauses in the middle of his words; his words sometimes blended into one another; and his sentences were short, and simple. I think this quote from a website I found about aphasia explains it best.

"Speech may be 'telegraphic' omitting small words such as 'the'. So, 'tomorrow I'm going to the pub with my wife for our anniversary', may be expressed as 'tomorrow...pub... wife... anniversary'. This requires the listener to accurately piece the message together."

So, yeah! As you can imagine, speaking for him was extremely hard. Often times, the townfolk he tried to speak to didn't have the patience to stick around while he finished a sentence, and gradually even Ford lost patience with himself, so he just. Gave up. Which was why he used to be much quieter in the beginning, lurking around town wordlessly, not even really bothering even when someone tried to initiate conversation with him. For a genius who once prided himself so much of his eloquence, losing that ability was a huge blow for him.

How fast one recovers from aphasia really depends on the severity of the injury. It can either take up to a few hours, days, maybe even weeks to fully reover with no long term repercussions, or the symptoms can last months, even years to shake off, and occasionally it's a lifelong condition. Ford, due to the severity of his injury, drew the short end of the stick, and was stuck with the lingering aftereffects of aphasia pretty much forever.

BUT, he evenutally managed to find the will to speak again! At some point during his 30 years of recovery, he decided that he'll figure this shit out himself, goddamnit, he was a scientist. He outsmarted a demon! He didn't have time to be depressed, he needed to relearn how to SPEAK!! (fuck yeah, determination, baby).

And learn he did. Very painfully, very gradually, Ford became basically his own speech therapist for a few decades and relearned everything his body and brain forgot. And although the results aren't perfect- he still stutters, he still gets stuck on words and he still stumbles over them- considering the fact that he had no professional treatment from a clinic or doctor available, it was good enough.

Now he won't shut up! (lovingly)

The first snow of the season had finally blanketed Basgiath, turning the fortress grounds into a pristine, white wonderland. It wasn’t long before the gentle snowfall transformed into a full-on storm, layering every building and pathway in inches of snow. And, naturally, the dragons were having none of it.

Drama queens.

A soft, offended rumble echoed in the back of your mind, the kind that clearly said, I heard that. But your dragon didn’t refute the thought, and really, all of this was her fault in the first place.

With most classes canceled for the day, and a suspicious lack of supervision, the second and third years were left to their own devices. A dangerous concept, honestly. For you, it meant wandering the snow-covered grounds with Xaden, who—by some miracle—had agreed to the idea without too much grumbling. Though now, judging by his crossed arms and narrowed gaze, he was probably regretting it.

You couldn’t help it. The quiet crunch of snow beneath your boots, the icy air that bit at your cheeks, and the sheer novelty of it all had made the childish idea too tempting.

"Do it," your dragon urged, as if she was the angel on your shoulder and not the devil she so clearly was.

Your hands acted on instinct. A perfect handful of snow was quickly scooped up, packed into a rough ball, and hurled at the unsuspecting target in front of you. Xaden didn’t even see it coming.

The snow hit him squarely between his shoulder blades, exploding into a fine spray of icy powder. He froze—like some wild animal sensing danger—and then turned, slowly, with the kind of deliberate menace only Xaden Riorson could pull off.

The sight of him made you pause. His expression was nothing short of scandalized, like you’d just committed an unforgivable crime. “Did you just—”

“Hit you with a snowball?” you finished for him, struggling not to laugh. “Yeah. I did.”

For a beat, all he did was stare. You expected witty words, maybe a pointed glare or a what the hell is wrong with you muttered under his breath. But no.

“Big mistake,” he said, in that low, gravelly voice of his.

Your stomach dropped. “Wait—Xaden—”

Too late. He was already moving, the faintest smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

You barely had time to scramble backwards before his hand shot down, scooping up a massive pile of snow. The way he packed it—quick, efficient, like this was a life-or-death mission—told you one thing: you were in trouble.

"I’m blaming you for this," you shot at your dragon, who only huffed in amusement.

And then Xaden launched his retaliation.

The snowball hit you square in the chest, knocking the breath from your lungs in a burst of laughter and surprise. “Xaden!”

“You started it,” he called, already preparing another one.

What followed was a full-on snowball war. You were half-sprinting, half-tripping through the deep snow, yelping when he got you and shrieking with triumph every time you managed to hit him back. By the end of it, you were both soaked, shivering, and grinning like idiots.

Xaden with his dark hair dusted with snow and his cheeks flushed from the cold, looked over at you with an expression that was far too smug for your liking. “Satisfied?”

“Not until you admit I won,” you shot back, brushing snow off your flight jacket.

He snorted. “In your dreams.”

You rolled your eyes, a teasing retort already on your tongue, but when you glanced up, the words died in your throat. He was looking at you—really looking at you—his dark eyes soft in a way that made your heart stumble. The smirk faded, replaced by something quieter, something dangerous.

“Xaden?” you murmured, barely above a whisper.

“Hmm?” He stepped closer, so close you could see the faint flakes of snow caught in his lashes.

The playful energy between you shifted, turning into something else entirely—warmth in the middle of the cold. His gaze dropped briefly to your lips, and that was all it took.

His hand cupped your cheek, cold fingertips a contrast to the heat of his touch, and he kissed you. The world faded away—Basgiath, the snow, the chiming of the bells—leaving only him. His lips were warm and sure, the kiss slow and lingering, like he had all the time in the world.

When he pulled back, you were breathless, cheeks flushed for reasons that had nothing to do with the cold. He studied you for a moment, that ever-present smirk returning. “Still think you won?”

“Absolutely,” you replied, grinning as you pulled him back in for another kiss.

"You’re welcome," your dragon purred smugly, and for once, you didn’t argue.
