haiii, i had a request for angel!reader x rafe, something angsty + fluffy (but if this is against what you write, feel free to ignore this request!)

maybe !angel struggles/used to struggle with a habit of sh, and she was having some sort of urge so she turned to rafe for help but broke down crying instead, something along those lines

a/n: I just would like to preface that I only write this from my own experiences with this topic. It is something that is experienced and dealt with differently in every person that struggles. I'm always happy to write about these sorts of things because they are real life experiences and sometimes it's helpful to see what you struggle with represented in this manner. Don't be afraid to ask and my dms are always open.

It had been building up for a while, the heaviness in your head, the faraway look in your eyes. Rafe had tried to tell himself that you were just tired, that no, you weren’t struggling anymore, because you were better, weren’t you?

You wanted to be better, you tried to be better, for him. But it was so hard, when the numbness started to take over and all you wanted was to feel something, anything. The blades you’d long since hidden from Rafe amongst your period items in the bathroom beckoned you. You could envision what you’d look like when you were done, even as you sat on the couch staring blankly at the wall. 

It pained Rafe to see you like this, he was sat right next to you and yet you’d never felt so far away. But you were safe, he was sure of that. There was nothing you could use or do, not when he was right there. The thought brought him some comfort. “Angel,” he cleared his throat, “why don’t you go for a bath, hm?” Slowly, you turned to face him, your face still. “It might make y’feel better.” Still nothing. “It’ll make me feel better.” He tried. Your gaze flickered and you nodded, Rafe’s shoulders sagged as he sighed in relief. “Thank you,” he murmured, leaning forwards to press a kiss to your forehead, trying not to feel hurt when you pulled away. 

Your breathing was controlled and shallow as you walked into the bathroom, your steps unhurried as Rafe unknowingly sent you to the one room you probably shouldn’t be in. Once the door was closed behind you, there was nothing you could do to stop yourself from opening the drawer.

Before you knew it, a clean blade was glistening in your hand. The air felt thick as you stared at the clean canvas of your arm, marred only by old scars. You pressed the blade down onto your skin without thinking but before you could cause yourself any harm, Rafe’s footsteps echoing through the hallway snapped you out of it. “Rafe,” you said, hoping it was loud enough for him to hear through the bathroom door. “Rafe,” you repeated, blade still in contact with your arm, your voice trembling. 

“Hey, what’s u-“ he froze as he stepped into the bathroom, taking in your reflection. He pulled his lower lip between his teeth, his eyes instantly welling up. Rafe took slow steps towards you, his hands visibly shaking as he rounded your figure and took your hands in his. He tried to remain calm as he took the blade from your hand, placing it behind him on the bathroom counter. 

The atmosphere was tense as he checked your arms, a sense of relief flickering in his gaze. “Are you-I don’t um-“ he choked up, his distraught eyes meeting your guilty ones. He tried to speak again but was cut off as a raw sob escaped your throat. 

Your shoulders shook as the dam inside of you broke, everything that’d been building up releasing all at once. Rafe gathered you in his arms, holding you tightly to his chest. “I’m sorry,” you whispered between cries, “I’m sorry.” You repeated. 

But he shook his head in refusal, a tear of his own slipping down his cheek. “Y’don’t have to apologise. ‘s okay.” He swallowed thickly and he pressed a kiss to your head. “I should’ve known, angel.” 

“I’m sorry,” you just said again. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, know I’m supposed to.” Rafe didn’t say anything, his fingers tangling in your hair, his other hand rubbing up and down your back in a soothing motion.  “Are you mad at me?” 

“No, baby. ‘Course ‘m not mad.” He sighed, guilt consuming him. “Just worried about you.” 

Your bottom lip trembled, “Don’t wanna worry you.” 

“ ‘s my job to worry about you, angel.” He countered, “Even if you don’t like it, it’s the truth.” You nodded distantly, fisting his shirt in your hands. Rafe sighed again, couching to lift you up, your legs instantly wrapping around his waist. You rested your chin in the crook of his neck, breathing in his scent, the feeling of his body against yours helping to ground you. 

It took you a moment to realise that he’d laid you down in your shared bed and had pulled you into his side, hands running up and down your waist. “Tell me next time. Please, angel. Please. ‘m not gonna be worried if you tell me what’s goin’ on in your head. How am I s’posed to look after you when I don’t know what you’re thinking, hm?”

You agreed, you knew he was right. You didn’t want to cope like that, you hated that it’s what you turned towards. “Thank you,” you whispered. He didn’t say anything, he knew you didn’t want him to, knew he didn’t have to. Instead he just held you closer, not letting go of you for the rest of the night.

What made you ship it?

I watched the whole show after it was complete, so I knew that people shipped them and that they ended up in some kind of cosmic yaoi situation. Maybe because I was looking for it, I thought they had chemistry and an appealing dynamic right from the beginning. But then s2 gave them the most batshit intense "I'll bring you back from the dead against your will because I can't stand to live without you"/"I'll bend the multiverse to ensure our lives intertwine over and over again"/saving each other/killing each other/unconditional love saves the world relationship arc and I'm so into that shit.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Ooh they tick an embarrassing number of boxes for me. I have a real weak spot for that kind of soulmatey, larger-than-life, "in all timelines in all possibilities only you" shit, where there is this one person who through a very specific set of circumstances just fits with you better than anyone else in the universe. Not a particularly healthy way to view relationships in real life; extremely compelling in fiction.

Beyond that: lonely person who finds someone who just won't give up on trying to connect with them. (Which could mean nothing.) Friends to lovers and the potential to explore the mushiness of the line between those categories. The joy of being able to nerd out about the same thing together. Being already very good at something and finding someone who can both keep up with you and challenge you, a partner and an equal. There is something very romantic to me about falling in love in the midst of an intense shared project (scientific, creative, political) where the project and the other person's commitment to it becomes so intertwined with how you feel about them.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Lmao well. There are a lot of characterization details that annoy me in fanworks on a scale from "well that's not my personal take" to "did we watch the same show" but this question is not about that.

Idk how unpopular an opinion this is, but I do not vibe with them having kids, either bio or adopted. I'm sure this is partially because wanting to raise kids, let alone birth them, is not a desire I've ever particularly related to, but also there is really nothing about these characters that suggests to me that they would want that. I like seeing them as teachers or mentors and I tend to think they'd both be excellent at that, but these guys have never heard of a healthy work-life balance and I enjoy that about them. I can't see either of them wanting to rearrange their priorities around taking care of a child, either in an AU or post-canon. Let them do their weird little experiments with questionable lab safety standards and fuck each other on/against/over every surface in their little soft epilogue cabin in peace.

Psyche crossed her arms over her chest and glared at the dark haired man currently standing in her kitchen. In the last 48 hours her life had been completely turned upside down and this man, one Lucanis Dellamorte, would be her bodyguard and roommate for the forseeable future.

She was willing to admit he was easy on the eyes, with dark hair pulled back into a bun, a trimmed beard, and deep brown eyes. He was dressed in a neatly pressed button down shirt, waist coat, slacks, and boots, and looked a bit more polished than she did in her purple jeans and black turtleneck.

But it was also clear he was exasperated by her.

She was a capable fighter in her own right, and veteran of the so called "War of the Banners" in the Grand Necropolis of Nevarra where a number of their undead had attempted to take over the country. The war had ended Rook had destroyed the body of Baron Van Markham leading the undead. It turned out, however, that his descendants were powerful Nevarran nobles. At first the Mourn Watch had sent her away until things cooled down.

That hadn't been enough for the nobles, however, and they'd attempted to assassinate her twice within the past week. As a result, her friend Varric Tethras had insisted she hire a bodyguard, one the Mourn Watch was helping to foot the bill for. Their mutual friend Neve had recommeded Lucanis of the Antivan Crows, a well know private security firm. Rumor said that the Crows were also assassins, but she doubted they would ever openly admit that.

When she'd arrived home to her temporary apartment in Crossroads City, she offered Lucanis her selection of takeout menus and asked him what he wanted.

The man gave her a horrified look and grabbed his phone to open a grocery shopping app. Within an hour he had her refrigerator and cupboards well stocked.

"You know you didn't have to do that," she told him sourly. "Takeout isn't that bad.

He fixed her with an even stare. "You're under my protection, and that includes sustenance. What do you want to eat?"

I love merthur and i love destiel too, and I added that scene from spn to make a comparison between the two ships. It wasn't meant to take anything away from the original post, but my intention was to give it a new light in addition (as people do on this site) by drawing a parallel with another piece of media. A lot of destiel fans love merthur too and i thought the op could get more reblogs and likes on their gif this way (reaching another fandom too).

I know how to make my own posts, I did plenty of them, actually.

What i don't know how to do is gifs, and i have deep appreciation for people who make them, and it is my understanding that they like exposure for their posts, so that their hard work can reach more people.

Joke's on you, I'm into that shit. Homestuck was an enormous and entirely positive part of my late teens and to this day there's nothing else like it. Like sometimes you just need to step back and think about how cool Homestuck is. MSPA invented a new format that HS constantly tested the limits of, giving us a comic where some of the panels are looping gifs and some are flash animations and some are fully playable video games. It had more prose than War and Peace by the time it was halfway done. It invented the concept of blackrom. A good third of it was written in a single year-long creativity bender. The fandom was like Inklings For Gay People and is still coughing out published artists. The cast is split 50/50 by gender and also by glasses wearing status just because...math. It wielded recurring motifs and colors and shapes and phraseology like an armory of weapons. At its peak it had a canon to cosplay rate of less than one hour. It contributed very significantly to keeping me sane in high school. Reading it gives you a very specific Homestuck Accent and will haunt you with concepts and imagery forever. Homestuck!

What basic things should people know about caring for leather?

So, leather is a skin, right?? It’s a hide. How do we care for our own skin?? Your basic steps:

Rinse

Clean

Rinse

Moisturize

A light spray of water, clean with a gentle soap (non-scented glycerin soap or saddle soap and a small horsehair/badgerhair brush), rinse and wipe off all the soap residue, and moisturize!

“Sen,” you say, “how do I moisturize leather?” Good question!! It’s going to depend on the type of leather.

There’s two big categories of leather; oil tan, and high shine. Oil tan leather is matte, soft, and more flexible (think of old leather dress shoes or casual boots). High shine leather is, well, self explanatory lol (shiny, less flexible, more glossy).

With oil tan leather, you’ll use a leather conditioner! Most bootblacks recommend Hubberd’s Shoe Grease (a heavier, denser conditioner), Obenauf’s Heavy Leather Preservative (more waxy), or Aussie Saddle conditioner (like Obenauf’s, but has a higher beeswax content). These are all pretty easily available online, and can even be bought in bulk and put into other containers!

For high shine leather, you use polish! There’s lots of different brands, but most folks get their start with Kiwi shoe polish (not super high quality, but readily available at big box stores like Walmart and Target). Most experienced bootblacks will use Lincoln or Angelus polish (your choice will depend on things like local humidity, altitude, experience, and technique). Apply a thin layer of polish to the boot, mist with a light spray of water, buff with a horsehair boot brush, and finish with a fine cotton buffing cloth!

I love bootblacking, and I love teaching. If anyone wants, I might record myself the next time I do my boots, so y��all can see these techniques in action!

What would be even funnier is if reader doesn’t know who put the mating claim on them. They just have a mating mark on their body. And all three monsters claim it’s them because they want reader bad.

So by the end up if it they kinda wind up having a Mama Mia situation on their hands.

Speaking of that scene, just look at miserable he looks here, also how cute he looks having to sit on that pillow.

He absolutely hated going through all of those tests and trials day after day. The poor thing was just going through it, knowing that they'll end eventually before he has to do them over and over again the following day.

Then the door opens behind him, and he turns his head to see Maria snuck into the room, wagging her eyebrows at him, mentally asking him, "You wanna ditch this place and go have some fun?"

And he does! Before the science can even notice, they put the teddy bear in his place, and they do exteme rollerskating in the hallways. The whole time, he just had this wide adorable grin on his face, just thrilled to be out of the lab for once and having fun with his friend.

Sorry, but I had to gush about this for the 6th time this week.

Hello anon!! Sorry to make you wait so long and thank you for the ask!! 💖 I have read several fics that I really, really loved and want to draw fanart for :3 but time and inspiration were not on my side until now!

Here is some Fanart of Chapter 3 of Mitsu Boshi! I will never get tired of fanfics where we get a whole scene of Okarun infodumping about aliens and conspiracies to a Momo who has just met him and is quickly becoming convinced that he's crazy XD

I ramble and recommend another fic under the cut as well:

The one living rent free in my head right now is Mitsu Boshi, which I recommended recently in this reblog. Friendly to Anime-Onlys at the moment due to it being an AU and not set in a specific place in canon :3 it's soooosososo well done and an absolute joy to read (and reread lol). Def give it a look if you have time! Also listen to the spotify playlist the author linked in Ch.6 (I've had it on on repeat while I draw, it's awesome and every song is such a great fit for the fic!!)

Another very fun one that I am determined to draw for in the future (for one of the action-oriented scenes that is verrryyy beyond my current skillset so it's taking...time lol) is Chapter One of a fic called "Momo Ayase vs the World" by GoodEveningClarice and is a part of a series called "What's inside Turbo Okarun's Mouth?" (Can y'all guess why it caught my attention?? LOL) Chapter 1 is very cool and feels like a chapter right out of the Manga!! Chapter 2 is more fluffy and just as fun to read 💕 Be warned, though, it's written at a point in canon not covered by the anime. So i suggest catching up on the manga first to avoid spoilers and to get some context for what's going on~
