Avoiding Anon Hate: a guide
long post incoming. You have been warned. (Keep reading button)
There’s been an increase of anon hate in the pokeblogging community recently. This is my guide on how to avoid anon hate.
You have a pinned post, right? With your character’s information, pronouns, pokemon, etc etc? Make it clear that there is a ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY for anon hate. Maybe even link to this post. Here’s an example.
There is a zero-tolerance policy for anonymous hate on this blog. (Link)
that link is the Wikipedia page for Hyperlinks. However, you may make it lead to this post.
Well, what if I do get anon hate? What then?
there is a feature to block anonymous users. This permanently revoked their privileges to send anonymous asks. They may send asks from their main blog, but that’s their main blog. Here’s a picture. (With ALT text/image ID! I’m going to try to make this accessible as possible. If you need anything on this post, let me know!)
Tumblr media
[Image ID: 2 anonymous asks. They contain the words “demo ask” and “(Would help if I clicked the button lmao)” The 3 dot icon has been tapped, and it shows the menu associated with it. In red text, it says “Report Anonymous” and “Block anonymous.” On the top it also showcases the time the ask was sent. /End ID]
Did you know you can block anons? Click or tap the three dots menu on an ask to show the menu and click “block anonymous.” This makes it so that any time that user sends anonymous asks, they do not show up in your askbox. As I said earlier, they can send asks from their main blog, but at that point they… are sending hate from their main blog. When you get anon hate, simply do this. It’ll help a bit, hopefully!
Blocking anons: it’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s free. Hope this helps!

I’m not trying to attack you, but do you know that proshipper means someone who supports and romanticizes pedophilia, incest, and abuse? Your reblog on that post seems to read that you think antis just hate on people for having ships they don’t like. But it’s completely different than that. Just looking on the proshipper side of Tumblr and the internet and you can see people happily shipping children and adults and making nsfw content of such things.
i appreciate that you're not being outright hostile, but i have to say, that on its own put you above basically every anti i've interacted with.
i understand where antis are coming from, i really do. there are a lot of things on the internet that make me deeply uncomfortable, including the minor/adult ships that you mention. i don't want to anything to do with those kinds of ships and i would be happiest if i never saw them again. which is why i'm proship.
nine times out of ten, if i see that kind of ship brought up on my dash, it's because i was following an anti without realizing it, and they brought it up unprompted and untagged, to talk about how bad it is that they exist. they are the ones putting that kind of content in front of my face and making it harder to avoid.
the thing about people who ship those ships is that they're generally very aware that not everyone wants to see that kind of content, and so they tag it. they make sideblogs to talk about it. they don't go out of their way to shove it in people's faces. that means i, and everyone else who doesn't like it, can avoid it.
what antis want is for it to not exist at all. they want the tags to be purged and blocked, and for anyone who uses those tags to have their accounts deleted. and sure, that might get rid of some of it, but do you know what would happen to the rest? it would stop being tagged. people who don't want to see it wouldn't have the tools to avoid it. this isn't just a hypothetical, that's what's happened any time a fan space has tried to do that.
that's not even getting into the rabbit hole of what should be banned and what shouldn't. obviously any content that depicts real children or real life abuse shouldn't exist and shouldn't be allowed to be posted, but basically any platform that people use already enforces those policies, and there's not much of a slippery slope to go down there. if it involves real living breathing people being abused, it's bad. end of discussion.
but the same can't be said for fiction. ask ten antis for a specific list of all the content that should be banned, and you'll get ten different answers. what about kink? what about roleplay? what about horror and murder and anything that involves fictional characters being graphically tortured? what about people using art to process terrible things that have happened to them? what about art that uses dark themes as a horror element? if you just want to ban anything questionable to anyone, that's the line of thinking that gets any mention of lgbt existence banned. and again, this isn't just a hypothetical, this has happened before, and that's generally where it leads.
i know, from personal experience, that antis do, in fact, send harassment to people just for shipping things they don't like. i've gotten accused of absolutely vile shit for shipping two fictional characters who were both consenting adults. i've seen ship wars turn into moral battlegrounds, over ships that an average person wouldn't bat an eye at.
the thing about "romanticization" is a whole other can of worms. the anti logic goes like this: if someone sees something (even if it's very obviously fictional) in a positive light enough times, they will start thinking it's okay in real life, and go on to hurt real people. the problem with that is that it's just. blatantly untrue.
if it were true every horror movie fan would be a serial killer, every person that studies dark media would be an unhinged psychopath, and everyone who is into ddlg would be a pedophile. but they're not. they just aren't. people have directed movies just as fucked up as the darkest shit on ao3, and are still capable of being normal human beings who know right from wrong in real life.
even if someone is that impressionable, scrubbing away the existence of every piece of questionable content isn't going to solve their problem, because they're still going to be vulnerable to con men, scams, and cultists. the only thing that would actually materially help someone like that is developing their own morals and critical thinking.
children are also more impressionable, and there's a lot of content that's not suitable for them, but that doesn't mean that content shouldn't exist. it just means that they should stick to spaces designed for them (which most social media sites, tumblr included, are not) or, if they're old enough to be responsible for their experience online, they, or a trusted adult in their lives, should block and filter out things that they aren't comfortable with.
which is what everyone on the internet should be doing. it's what i do, and it's made the internet a much more pleasant place to be. and it's why i sometimes worry for antis mental health, especially teenagers, because they're being told it's right and moral to seek out content that makes them uncomfortable and to engage with the people making it. and that's just. really bad. it's not good for the creators that they're harassing obviously, but it's also really bad for them! it's not healthy to seek out things that make you feel bad, and it's a terrible internet safety lesson to teach minors that it's okay for them to seek out and engage with people making adult content.
individual harassment and crusading is never going to succeed at removing dark content from the internet. it just isn't. at best you might get a small percentage of people who create that content to stop sharing it, at worst you're just going to make people stop tagging it, and either way, you're exposing yourself to things that make you feel bad, when you don't have to.
if you want to materially change the type of content you see, you can. the block button is your friend, use it liberally. same with content filtering and tag blocking.

oh wait actually my real request for the qsmp fandom is this:
stop sharing bad tumblr takes to twitter. i don't care what you're reasoning is, unless its a private five follower account and youre complaining to friends, you have zero reason to be putting bad faith criticisms that were already hidden on a site barely used by cc onto the site they DO use and possibly right in front of them. we wouldn't be in this mess if people weren't reposting anon hate of all things onto twitter for some reason.
by all means, share fun analysis! share positive longform thought posts! don't share anon hate death threats being sent to other fans. stop feeding trolls. don't answer asks like that either. it just gives people the satisfaction of a reply. delete it and make them seethe and move on with your life.

I wonder why christian misrepresentation are rarely talked about if compared to other religion misrepresentation. Like, I've seen people really vocal about Greek myths misrepresentation in LO and such (and it's valid because it's a culture and religion) but I rarely saw the same thing with christian even though there are many media who use christian religion innacurately, to the point where it comes off as using it as an aesthetic and not a proper religion.
Is it because of rampant religious trauma especially in western world? No ulterior motives on this question. I'm not a christian and yet I'm curious about this. I apologize if this sounds harsh.
I obviously don't have The Answer(tm) to this but personally speaking (and I'm about to get VERY personal here so take this with MOUNTAINS OF SALT), I think it's just the obvious - Christian mythology is one of the most well-documented and strongly protected out of virtually any other religion on the planet. Especially here in the West, it's commonplace for kids to go to Sunday school, for couples to have Christian weddings even if they're not practising Christians themselves, even the American anthem references the Christian God. It's simply not as easy to 'misrepresent' it because the representation is written into our very fabric of society. Even Greece itself is primarily made up of Orthodox Christians.
So anyone that does 'misrepresent' it are either completely mislead hardcore Christians, or people who are doing it intentionally, such as with the intent to make a parody of it or to deconstruct it through a different context or whatever have you. And of course, people will still get mad at those things, if you're implying that people aren't vocal about Christian misrepresentation then frankly IDK what to tell you there LOL If you want a contextual example in the realm of webtoons, Religiously Gay was dragged to hell and back during its launch for having a very crude and insulting depiction of St. Michael, and frankly, yeah I don't disagree because what the fuck is this-
Tumblr media
(like at best it's just terrible character design lmao that said, there's also plenty else to criticize Religiously Gay for, including its fetishy representation of gay relationships and the fact that it's still just the "naive person who looks and acts like a child hooks up with mean person in a position of power" trope, blech, but the character design is definitely the first thing you notice)
There are even plenty of hardcore Christians who will deadass claim "misrepresentation" over things that ARE factually correct but they just haven't read the actual Bible and simply cherry pick what works for their own agenda. And of course those people are routinely called out by people like myself who know for a fact that Jesus wouldn't have promoted the war crimes that many modern day Christians are committing and justifying today. So it really depends on the definition of "misrepresentation" here.
The issue specifically with LO and Rachel that I personally call her out for (and many others) is that she's called herself a "folklorist" and claimed she's so much more knowledgeable on Greek myth than anyone else, while making a complete mockery of the original mythologies while not being honest about her intent as to whether LO is actually supposed to be a legitimate retelling OR a parody (because it sure acts like the latter more than the former, but she still seems to expect us to take it seriously and consider her knowledge of Greek myth superior?) Which leads to a lot of her teenage audience claiming shit like "Persephone went down to the underworld willingly" and "Apollo did assault Persephone in the original myths actually" and the classic "why would Lore Olympus lie or make up fake myths?"
Tumblr media
You just can't pull off this extent of erasure with Christian mythology because we have a whole ass book of it that's been preserved, sold on shelves, and systematically integrated into society for thousands of years. Of course, there are people who will still try their damned best to twist the Bible to match their own bigotry with the whole "Jesus hates gays" bullshit (he would never), but it's met with equal amounts of 'misrepresentation' that are actually fully well-read and are intentionally subverting and changing things to either critique, parody, or restore the original intent of a lot of stories in the Bible without all the manufactured right-wing crap.
Greek myth, on the other hand, has some stories that are well preserved, and others, not so much. And in the modern day outside of the poems and hymns, you'll also rarely, if ever, see anyone use stories from Greek myth to ostracize, torture, and murder other people. "Misrepresenting Christianity" is more often done by actual Christians who are using the Bible to commit hate crimes than the people who have actually read the Bible and are just taking creative liberties with it for the sake of deconstructing / parodying / analyzing / subverting it. Veggie Tales "misrepresents" Christian stories because obviously Moses wasn't a fucking cucumber lmao but it still accomplishes its goal by retelling Christian stories in a way that's fun and educational for children.
By comparison (on the whole, I'm not comparing LO to Veggie Tales LMAO) LO just isn't clear in its intentions beyond Rachel's initial statements that she was trying to "deconstruct" the myths, while labelling herself as a folklorist. Therefore, I'm going to criticize how she does it because the way she's done it up until now has been very mishandled and has resulted in a lot of misinterpretations of the myths simply for the sake of fandom. And yes, these people exist in Christian media as well - they're called TV evangelists.
And that's my (very heavy) two cents.

what are your opinions on the recent situation with @/emi-en and @/pockettwinzz
asking since i know your mutuals with them and to spread awareness
Hi hi, anonie !! And thanks for stopping by my blog - if it wasn't for your ask, I would've had no idea about this issue having gone public. Still, as for the sake of my own stress rn, I'll keep my answer as brief as possible on this.
Haze and I never got along well (don't ask for details, it's stupid), but Emi was someone I always enjoyed interacting with whenever I did...
And it's true. A lot of the time she had ZERO filter when chatting, but the fact of the matter remains: When a person's "shamelessness" brings them to disrespect another culture and entire racial group, I draw a thick ass fucking line between harmless "jokes" and just straight up racist behavior.
Either way tho, I hope that both Haze and Emi learn from this experience and change with time.

Wip Wednesday!
I was tagged by @theotherbuckley @fortheloveofbuddie @jesuisici33 thank you 💜
Okay so I've been bouncing back and forth between the buddie trapped on the elevator fic and the buck gets engaged fic, so have a little bit more of the drama on the engaged fic because I'm having fun lol did i mention Eddie gets hurt? it's not anyone's fault but yeah. prev snippet
To be fair, Buck is not really thinking as he jumps off his Jeep and moves up the steps to Eddie's door. Fitting the key to the door and just going in is muscle memory.  He just needs to see Eddie. Now.  He didn't stop to consider the way that Eddie still very much doesn't want to see him.  So he does freeze when Eddie walks into the living room as he closes the door, half expecting him to just kick him out again. But Eddie just looks at him then at the door and at the key in his hand before he sighs, moving as if to run a hand across his face, but getting caught by the sling, wincing at the movement, and Buck steps closer to him, almost instinctively, but Eddie steps backward once he gets too close.  He didn't expect the way Eddie's expression hardens, how he stands up straighter, how his good arm moves to cradle the sling in an attempt to cross his arms.  Or to protect himself. Eddie thinks he needs to protect himself from him.  Oh, he’s gonna throw up.
No pressure tagging 🩷: @eddiebabygirldiaz @bucks118 @honestlyeddie @sherlockcrossing @wikiangela @daffi-990 @try-set-me-on-fire @watchyourbuck @housewifebuck @aspecbuddie @steadfastsaturnsrings @wildlife4life @giddyupbuck @captain-hen and you if you have something to share 💜

Hello love!
I’ve actually been taking a bit of an unannounced break recently at the encouragement of my friends, who have always been able to notice my burnout symptoms better than I have. I thought once I graduated from my masters I could immediately hop back into writing on top of full time job searching but turns out I really need a break and to just relax for a bit.
I’m not gone for good! I’m just taking it slow and easy for a little so I can enjoy writing and not push myself for the sake of updates. I do have a few works halfway finished and am slowly chipping away at them, but for now I’m just trying to let my brain cool off and refill my inspiration meter before tackling anything full force.
Thank you lovely! 💖💖💖
