I was the art director and illustrated art for this novel alongside the amazing Jiminsi! This book is a wild ride and well worth checking out! It was really fun making the character designs for the cast as well as working with Jiminsi for all the illustrations! The main trio is a treat of found family and the supporting cast is a joy to read how all their stories interconnect.
This is Kiwi Rat's first novel and you can see their eclectic influences from Terry Pratchett's Discworld to magical girl anime to Villianess webtoons bouncing out of the page and creating their own unique world.

There are two kinds of people in life: somebodies and nobodies. Know exactly which one you are.
Melandra Godfrey may not have had a good life, but it was at least a predictable life. Her father, the last private detective in Zarothe, may have had his long list of rules and the money never added up right, but at least both of those factors were consistent.
But when Melandra’s father goes out of town on whatat first seems like a normal job, Melandra’s world becomes unpredictable. A string of murders stokes fears of cult activity. An on-and-off friend warns of strange dangers. A mysterious man arrives at her door with an even more mysterious letter.
The Steel Road, the ever-present crux of trade in Zarothe, holds the key to the mysteries around Melandra and throughout her whole life.
Getting the answers she wants may mean doing the very thing Melandra hates most: becoming somebody.
That's right, everyone, I have bitten the bullet and e-book preorders for Ghosts of the Steel Road are now LIVE.
Releasing in both e-book and paperback* format on September 26th, Ghosts of the Steel Road is a fantasy novel about prophecies, cults, and the strange things our parents do.
As my debut self-published novel, I will admit it's a little surreal, but I'm so excited to have these years of work out there, and now it's time to properly work on the sequel!
Also, here's that book cover reveal, finally. Decided to keep it simple in the end :D
Check out the e-book preorder here on Amazon!
*Paperback not available for preorder. Yell at KDP about that one. Link will be given for paperback on Sept. 26.
In this debut novel, you are the main character! Come along on a multi-continental spirit journey, discovering new places, revisiting the past, and ultimately, looking towards the future.
After several months of deliberation I finally decided to self-publish my first novel. So if you're interested in Afrofuturistic/Solarpunk settings, found family dynamics, hot yet morally dubious women, the circus, and like your love triangles with a dash of sapphic betrayal and polyamory, then say no more.
SUMMARY:
Inside the walls of the Republic of Taraji, peace and protection are maintained through the poisoned blood of children. At the age of seventeen, Kambili knows no other life than that of a Vanguard soldier, a life of relentless hardship, and obedience to the iron-fisted supervisors of Salvation. However, Kambili's life takes a harrowing turn when she discovers a power within her that could either reignite the flames of a long-extinguished war or offer a glimmer of true deliverance from the threat of the Abyssal Jungle.
So if you're interested in all of the above and/or would like to help me afford rent + utilities in the future, I would seriously appreciate it.
Send Me Your Indie Lit To Review (Book Swap Campaign)
Inspired by a post from a mutual in the same boat as I am unable to get any sales. For me, at least, the idea of hocking my book like the insufferable BookTok influencers is the antithesis of who I am and who I want to resort to being just to get the word out… but then, I also kept completely forgetting about this mutual’s book for like, a whole month, and then spontaneously paid a whole $0.99 for the kindle ebook and read it in one sitting and you can check out that review here (I am an extremely fast reader).
So!
Send me your books and even if I don’t like them, I’ll come up with something good to say because there is an audience for them that I might not fit. There's not a lot of content that I won't at least give a chance, rating regardless, so don't be shy! I don’t have a million followers but maybe if we all help each other out, we can succeed in spite of the Daily Grind rhetoric they want to convince us is the only way.
Fee? $0.00
But. If I read and review yours, you read and review mine. That’s the deal. I’ll pay for your book, you pay for mine, and together we can all boost each other’s Amazon rankings. We. Can. Do. This!

And if you’re curious, my debut queer adult fantasy novel “Eternal Night of the Northern Sky” is out now!
*I do reserve the right to DNF. As do you. I’m not promoting any book that I would not recommend personally to a friend. This blog has integrity, where the shameless Bookstagram and Booktok influencers do not.
hello, I’m a new writer here on tumblr. I’ve been posting my writing lately but that seems to attract not even a single person. And I want people to review my writings and post down their opinions on it..how do I get people to view my writing here?
Like any social media platform, you get out of Tumblr what you put in.
Tumblr is all about community, so it's important to make sure you engage, not just put out content. We've put together this article in the Reading Room that's all about how writers can get the most out of Tumblr.
But we also have some great resources for more general book marketing that have some transferrable information for any social media platform you might be using to promote your work.
Idk how to self promote for shit but I'll tell you Tumblr.Com I'm very excited about my weird little novella that's half-memoir and half cosmic horror comedy and its about the existential dread of overcoming suicidal ideation as an autistic trans bitch but now idk what the fuck to do with my life in this rapidly crumbling capitalistic hellscape
The answer is be loud about existing in spite the statistics, love my friends, and suck goblin dick
need more books about fucked up lesbians who tear chunks out of each other!!!!! need more books about girls who can't tell the difference between self preservation and self destruction!!!!! need more books about butch lesbians who eat human flesh!!!!!
i wrote a book once and self published it. It's called The Kaedin Secret and looks like this. it is a fantasy with a romance and attempted murder, with some guys in a uni and a secret (several, actually)
i'm writing its sequel (in fits and spurts - my brain is not cooperating properly) and i'm really needing the motivation to keep at it.
it would be very encouraging for you - any of you, all of you - to buy it either as a paperback or on Kindle and give it a try.
it's $9.99 now instead of the original price of $16.
if you like it, drop me a good amazon review. if you don't like it, please donate to your local library or to someone you think may like stuff like that.
thanks.
yours sincerely,
AK
(someone who is very tired of having to do stuff not related to writing my book)

Chapter Segment -
Looking at Adam, his duo colored eyes reflected the sun, one blue and one orange.
Pale skin, a scruffy beard, and long frizzy black hair - messy curls framing his face and getting tangled in his thick framed glasses. Unnaturally colored eyes, and some parts of his skin seemed tinted a pale blue. Adam pushed up his sunglasses, finding himself abnormally jolted by the little unnatural details he had been noticing on his friends. He knew, to some length, that many people had strange features, that scratching feeling that he knew more than that - yet the information was out of reach, sat numbly in his skull.
It wasnt scary, and he was unable to judge, however it came across as weird.
He had spent a while thinking these things through, after Rory and Star, after his own eyes, it never got easier to understand.
Blurred, vague memories and strained thoughts about an origin, about where it stemmed from. Out of reach, he wasnt able to grasp at the why, where, or how. It never clicked with him why none of these things were documented, in hospitals or the news.
Why, if so many people had these things, why are they forced to hide?
Do you like romance? Modern fantasy? Crime and consequence?
Check out my book, Tylvinian Tales: The Wolf's Den, on Tumblr, Wattpad,or Ao3!
Tylvinian Tales is an anthology series centered around the city of Tylvin, capitol of the nation of Ferus on a world called Relan, populated by anthropomorphic beings called Sentients, which are made up of various species ranging from the most common and mundane all the way to the mythical and alien. The stories revolve around various lives, the impact they all have on one another, and the consequences they each create for the city they call home.
The first book in the series, The Wolf's Den, focuses on Ryder Trayson. Ryder is a Sentient Relanian Greatwolf who works as a freelance DJ. His greatest struggles for most of his life have been waking up in time to get to his job on the weekends and keeping his fridge stocked despite his appetites. But when a series of life-changing events shake up his world, he'll have to face a much darker side of both his city, and himself, all while trying to navigate the changing relationships around him.
