I hate when people are like "I already didn't like xyz so it's not difficult for me to boycott it unlike those loser customers that actually Liked the thing which I could never understand bc I was never a customer uwu" bc like. That literally isn't boycotting lmao. That is just Never Being A Customer In The First Place, which means nothing actually.

Boycotts are primarily about applying pressure (or completely making it impossible to operate) via financial/commercial/economic impact. AKA it's about money and capital.

If you already weren't spending money on a product/franchise/company, then you were already never part of their sales data, and you just doing nothing & making absolutely no change to your daily life and just continuing to not be part of their sales data as normal, has literally no material impact. You were already never a factor. The people who WERE customers & WERE part of the sales data & ARE withdrawing their money from those sales figures actually ARE making a material impact.

"Supporting" something isn't about vibes or thoughts or feelings or you telling your best friend how much you like a thing, "support" in a meaningful sense is specifically material. It is financial. Refusing to continue supporting something means taking the money you were previously spending on it & putting it elsewhere. If you were never spending money, you were never supporting it, and therefore it doesn't make any difference if you continue to not support it. Boycotting is something CUSTOMERS and CONSUMERS do.

I have nothing against Chris but I really want to see Mackie as Cap and only him as Cap from now on. He really deserves it and I just hope that Chris won’t steal his thunder

My question is this: why does Marvel seem to have no faith in Mackie/Sam Wilson? TFatWS did decent. People liked it. People liked Sam finally fully becoming Captain America. If there are problems with CA4, it has to do with script and direction, not with Mackie having no ability to carry the film. He has presence.

Cause no one cares about the new Captain America movie,not even the people involved with it. The cast & crew all know they're stuck making a bad movie. Barely anyone's hyped for it either. Look around,no one's even talking about the movie and already pretending like it doesn't exist. Everyone knows it's going to be terrible and will flop hard so let's be thankful Sebastian's not in it. It's only performative Tumblr that acts excited for it. Thunderbolts will also likely flop and Seb/Bucky will probably only have bit parts in it cause Marvel likes to waste him but at least,I still saw people excited for that. Not many tho,since most people also expect it'll do badly but the hype and anticipation for it still exists. But I scarce see any hype,excitements or talks at all about Cap 4. Hell,even on Tumblr,all the fangirlies are obviously more excited for Thunderbolts because of Bucky and even they couldn't hide that fact but then get mad at other people for not being excited for CA4 when they're not excited for it either. Like what I said,performative.

Here's the thing- if we DID create hype for cap4, it might enable marvel to break free of their repetitive writing cycle- instead of putting down writers who are being bled dry by massive corporations, we SHOULD be generating fandom excitement for these things, good or not. Sam's character can exist without Bucky. That's not my point here. Why bother to establish the events of FATWS if their relationship means nothing to the storyline- or to Sam's (and Bucky's) development as a character? Why have Bucky be an integral part of every captain America movie just to turn it around and decide he wasn't an important part of it? Plus, I'm immensely excited for Thunderbolts, not because of Bucky but because we have a chance for marvel to expand upon smaller characters we need to see more of. Besides, I'm a guy not some fangirl, but we should absolutely hand it to them. They're carrying the MCU on their backs, because they're the only ones keeping these movies afloat- why bother sending someone an anonymous ask just to put down their hype for a movie you're so obviously disinterested in.

I was looking at some information on Captain America 4 because it sounds like they are doing an entire reshoot. I saw a preview for Sam's new suit for the movie. What are your thoughts on this? Because it feels like he barely wore the one that he got to wear in TFATWS. And that one was given to him by Wakanda and made from Vibranium. How can this new suit be preferable to that one? And I guess its now not a big deal that he got a suit from Wakanda?

The change of suit happened with Wanda as well when she went from TV to movie so I guess it happens with major budget upgrades. It does suck that vital character development points get undermined but, hey, this is the MCU we’re talking about.

As far as the new suit goes, I quite like it! I like that navy shade, the lines look more dynamic and I think overall the design is much more complimentary to Mackie’s body shape. Maybe they can say vibranium can change the suit’s paint job — after all, didn’t T’Challa’s suit hide in his beads? Surely changing the colours isn’t a big deal in a world like that 😂

I think the issues with the show were pretty evident as soon as it ended. The criticism about the “do better” speech was always there. There is a group of very vocal people who have a vested (ship war) interest in defending that show. From what I’ve seen, a good number of them are well aware of the flaws of the show (and have many of the exact same talking points) but if you are not one of them, you’re not allowed to talk about it. I don’t think these people have changed their stance on CA4 — in the sense that they were always concerned about Spellman bungling it, and they always disliked how little care was put into promoting Sam’s story, but god forbid if you’re not in their ship and talked about it. So in a way, I don't think the show isn't "ageing well"...because I think most people really haven't changed their original opinions. I'm sure there are some people out there who previously loved the show and now changed their mind because of Sabra, but I haven't seen a lot of comment from that corner on Tumblr at least...

I do think it’s ironic that CA4 is now being accused of Zionist agenda when the first criticism that came out was its anti-Semitic working title (New World Order). I have no idea what politics it will push — if any, because let’s face it, the main problem with TFATWS isn’t its centrism, it’s the lack of commitment to any ideology and its protagonist-centric morality — but what this whole saga tells me is that the publicity team for CA4 is either incompetent or woefully understaffed. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone come out to try and salvage the publicity debacles. The optics of Sabra is going to be very tricky given the current climate, and I don’t see Spellman being a writer who can handle the subtlety (or bravery?) to make her work.

I remember Simu Liu allegedly said to Marvel execs that "we (POC) are not an experiment" -- but honestly, this is what CA4 is feeling like. Sam the Black Cap is experimental and they're cutting corners on many parts of this production. They don't care that he fails - so they are setting him up to fail, which would then justify them pulling the plug early so they can go back to investing in safe favourites.

I am stressed about thunderbolts lol. Like I hope Bucky doesn’t actually die. I read somewhere that there may be a falcon & the winter soldier season 2 so if that’s the case then he wouldn’t die in thunderbolts but I can’t find any details on that anymore that doesn’t go all the way back to March. But like how would you kill off you fan favorite character.

Honestly, the idea of Bucky dying in this film never crossed my mind. I can't imagine them doing that. In my opinion, the only real hype around Thunderbolts comes from Seb's involvement as Bucky.

I can see the fanbase being truly devastated if this ends up being the last time we see Seb as Bucky, aside from his What If appearances. Don't get me wrong, I would completely understand if they were to decide to wrap up his story soon, he's one of the OGs and it's clear that they are trying to move on. (Especially, now that they confirmed he won't be in CA4).

But, I just don't think Thunderbolts will be his ending. He deserves much more than that.

Off course they didn't fix the TVA in Deadpool. Even though everything they did was based on a lie people full on bought into the greater good excuse. The TVA aren't fascist who killed and ruined lives, they're fun quirky character. At worst they're "gray" of course they never have to answer for what they were complicit, only Loki has to have his unrelated misdeeds held against him and now that he's sacrificed himself to a lonely sisyphus fate it means the TVA gets to continue with a clean slate while still wearing all the badges of fascism.

The MCU is pro status quo and pro ruling state. They at most gently urge the system to "be better" but never to be proactive in undoing damage and helping people in need.

Regarding Seb's presence in the MCU and whether this will be his last appearance. They seem to be writing his character in a way that makes it seem like he won't be filming anymore movies post Thunderbolts but also leaving the door open for a cameo in the CA4 post credits if not the actual movie. Maybe Thunderbolts will end his storyline. Either way I'm excited for Seb's career and for him to not be shackled by MCU if they're not going to treat Bucky right.

Hmmm, I don't actually know how exactly they're writing Bucky right now to be honest, but what you're saying sounds very plausible to me. If there is a cameo, let's hope it's just an aside kind of thing and not a lead-in for some new movie. I guess we'll have to be patient to find out. Anthony is a black actor, so he's going to have a harder time finding good roles because Hollywood isn't giving that to poc actors. That's why there was talk about whether Lily Gladstone will be nominated again, or even what Da'Vine Joy Randolph said about wanting to be in films by authors like Wes Anderson and the Coen Brothers. I don't think it's fair to compare both careers of a white actor vs a black actor. CA4 is Mackie's opportunity to show he can lead a franchise, and open up new opportunities for him. Too bad the MCU may have fucked everything up.
