Everybody talking about how Cecil is peak Sexy Tumblr Man bc he's Skinny White Guy in a Suit

But nobody talking about how Cecil was also the catalyst for anti-Skinny White Guy in a Suit!

By the time WTNV and Cecil rolled around in 2014 people were sick of skinny white guys in suits!!! They wanted something different! and it sparked a lot of talk around the default white depictions of characters who didn't have canon designs.

There's this image by zenamiarts that depicts a lot of the popular human Cecil designs that started popping up as a result. You started seeing Cecil with long braided hair!! Cecil with a walking stick and chronic pain! There was Cecil who was a just giant floating eyeball. Cecil who could change his entire appearance at a whim. A very popular ask blog where Cecil was a Silkie Chicken. (Newer more modern designs also showcase the eccentric fashion Cecil is now known to wear.)

i mean Fuck. Cecil Palmer was the first male character I saw drawn in a skirt!! he was the first character I saw drawn as gender nonconforming and he got treated and drawn like it was a normal thing and i will never forget that.

was it the perfect depiction of diversity? nah. & it sadly seems like a lot of the surviving artwork of Cecil from 2013-2016 is 'Skinny White Guy in a Suit'. (the 2018 tumblr exodus might have something to do with that :( )

But!!! Cecil really did open the door for future audio drama character designs. (looking at u mr. jonathan the magnus archives)

Hi, so I did the math, and if I'm not an idiot:

As of posting this, about 36,800 people have voted for Sans in the Sans vs Onceler poll, while about 51,180 people have voted for Cecil in the Cecil Vs Reigen poll. 14,000 more people have shown love for Cecil. (Yes, the Sans poll had a smaller total vote count but I think that's a sign of our Passion For The Radio Man)

I know that some people who voted for Cecil this time may vote for sans but guys. GUYS. We have the numbers, WE COULD DO IT. It's his BIRTHDAY MONTH, he has a HUSBAND TO MAKE PROUD. WE COULD TAKE HIM ALL THE WAY.

He is LITERALLY a founding fandom father of this hellsite, you CANNOT disrespect him and all he's done for us. Not only as a funny little guy, but also as an important pillar of queer representation in media. He announced his love for another man in episode one, in 2012. Gay marriage in the US wouldn't be legalized for another 3 years. This was big. Other posts have gone more in depth on how important WTNV is as a podcast and done so better than I can rn, but basically he's earned it.

Sans Vs Reigen (probably) isn't gonna happen.

My favorite interpretation of the ending of the Tumblr sexyman polls is that Sans is just as thrilled about Cecil winning as Cecil is.

People are talking abt how Cecil won even tho he's not ""technically"" sexy, abt how he won bc he's beloved by Tumblr, a symbol of hope and acceptance and being unapologetically weird for all of us when we were younger. Which is lovely. And I do think that's accurate to how Cecil is thought of in current day tumblrina minds. But, do you guys not remember that back in the day he absolutely fit the stereotype of a tumblr sexyman?? Are we forgetting how much fanart there was of him as a skinny white bleach-blonde twink??? Are we forgetting twink Cecil in a suit vest and purple tie? Are we forgetting twink Cecil's eye and tentacle tattoos? Are we forgetting people drew (and wrote fanfic of) him with actual TENTACLES. Guys, Cecil is our cool gay dad/uncle, but he's also a sexy tumblr twink, pls don't ever forget that.

Cecil is the ultimate TSM because he has no definitive look, we only ever hear him and vague bits about his appearance. How he looks all depends on one’s own preference.
