I've been having a hard time with programming lately. Considering that it is my job i kind of need to get it together.

My plan is to start learning stuff that isn't just the only thing I need for my current project. Try to find things about programming and computer science that interest me and maybe talk about it on this blog. I think I need to expand my curiosity about the subject.

I have all these hang ups about feeling stupid and incompetent and how hard everything is, but I need to reframe it. Yes, it doesn't come as easily to me as to others, but that's ok because I'm capable and I can put in the effort to do and learn the hard thing. And I know that at the end it will be totally worth it.

this might be a long shot but can anyone help me with recursion? preferably in python?

i'm at a weird spot where i get the concept but can't write any recursive functions. kind of like how some people can understand a language but can't speak it...

some sources also say that you can learn by trying to turn iterative functions into recursive ones but i can't even do that. it's just not clicking. i only know the fibonacci sequence and factorials because they are the only examples ever given.

I learned about this when I attended my 1st hackathon, I used the pack to get a free website domain (from Namecheap) and used Digital Ocean cloud services to host apps, and even tried out Educative's courses. Later, when I was hosting a hackathon, they released their ~hackathon hosting starter pack~ and it was great to have access to extra resources to support hosting virtual events!

I recently remembered this existed and wanted to promote it here, so if you're a student interested in CS/Software Dev, have a upcoming hackathon or just want to play around with some premium tools, pls take time to check this out!

Something exciting I noticed this time around is the addition of project template examples (Ex: Discord Bots) and a career readiness section 👀

Personally, I am still using: Codespaces, GitHub Pages, I *still* have my domain with NameCheap, and there's a handful of services they added that I want to check out now :D

A little tip that helped me land a software engineering internship: Work collaboratively when possible and put it on your resume. Outside of rare circumstances, software engineering is a collaborative field. Learning to work in a collaborative environment by using GitHub, planning projects, delegating tasks, and writing documentation is immensely important and is highly valued by potential employers.

Bonus Tip: Game Jams are a fun way to practice this!

3/10/2025 - B-Sides Progress

Goal: start putting together the music journal in Godot

Notes: I had so much trouble with importing the Flutter package into VSCode that I had to switch to a whole other way to code this project. Off to a great start!

Reflection: I'm writing this reflection a week later, but I think godot is definitely giving me a lot more room to do what I need to. I have some basic UI right now that I need to write some code for, and then the "journal" section will be done. All in all, I'm optomistic.
