aluminum cookware

For a different project I was reading about developments in induction heating technologies and realized I had a small misunderstanding about how induction stoves work.
So, the classic misunderstanding is in why steel works on an induction hob but aluminium doesn't. Most people assume this is because you need a magnetic material in order to induce a current, but if you know your physics you know this isn't true. You can induce a current in any conductor, and indeed inducing currents in aluminium is something that happens in industry all the time.
So then you get to my understanding of why you can't use aluminium and copper, which is that they're too good at conducting electricity. Induction generates a voltage that pushes a current through the material. Aluminium and copper are much better conductors than steel, so the generated potential is lower and the overall current is lower as a result of material interactions with the field, so you don't get nearly as much heat out of induction on aluminium as on steel. This was what I thought. This is also wrong, although it's closer.
The actual answer is one step deeper. Induction hobs have to operate at pretty high frequencies, usually 24-ish kHz, both for audible noise reasons and, crucially, because they rely heavily on the skin effect. Interestingly this makes that first wrong explanation kind of more correct, I'll get to that in a moment.
The skin effect is a thing that happens when you have an alternating current in a bulk material; the AC signal sets up magnetic fields that force current to flow in a thin layer closer to the surface of the solid rather than flowing evenly throughout the material. This increases the effective resistance of the material, since you end up with a reduced effective surface area through which current can flow. The skin effect gets more pronounced at higher frequencies, and it's part of why you'll see bundles of smaller cables used to conduct high power AC: each cable has its own skin that can carry more current than the same quantity of material in one bulk cable.
In the right kinds of steel and iron, 24kHz is enough to generate a current carrying skin only a few tenths of a millimeter thick, which has a high enough resistance to generate the heat needed for cooking. Ferromagnetic materials have very high magnetic permeability, which causes them to experience much stronger skin effects. Copper and aluminium, between their high conductivity and lower magnetic permeability, have much weaker skin effects, their skins at 24kHz are much thicker, and so you just can't kick up enough resistance to the current to generate heat, it just spins around in there getting kind of warm but you'd have a hard time actually cooking with it. Indeed, non-magnetic stainless steel also won't work on induction hobs, because it also has a much thicker skin effect.
So you have the "real answer" being a fun hybrid of the two incorrect explanations.
The main side effects I take away from this are twofold.
1) you can absolutely make an induction hob that will heat copper and aluminum and non-magnetic stainless steels, you just need a high enough frequency to generate a strong enough skin effect to generate heat. Panasonic makes one that uses 60+kHz induction under the brand "Met-all".
2) if you physically constrain the current by having a really thin piece of metal, you can induction heat it anyway. When I read this, I stopped, took out a piece of aluminium foil, and stuck it on my induction cooktop. It almost immediately got incredibly hot and I pulled it away before anything bad happened. Turns out you could definitely melt and maybe even vaporize aluminium this way. So don't do that. Apparently people do this with lightweight titanium cookware too, which would not be able to sustain the necessary currents in a large bulk solid but can if you thin the base of the pan out enough.

Jake Kiszka x Charlotte (OC)
Warnings: Fluff! (otherwise n/a)
Word Count: 2k
This Must Be The Place - Talking Heads “Home is where I want to be But I guess I’m already there”
I awoke to the feeling of Jake curled around my back like a kitten.
These were my favorite mornings, the slight chill of the autumn air being held at bay by the absolute love of my life. Sharing warmth and skin in our own little bubble, undisturbed by the outside world.
We’ve been together long enough that our circadian rhythms were in sync. When one of us begins to stir, the other is sure to follow.
I felt Jake nuzzle in closer behind me, wrapping his arm tighter around my middle.
“Call out today, Red” he mumbled out in a gravely voice, thick with sleep.
I let out a small chuckle, as I turned in his arms to look into his eyes.
“We have this conversation every morning, Jacob.”
He plants a sleepy kiss to my waiting lips
“But, I really mean it this time. Let’s go on an adventure.”
I thought about it for a second. I rarely call out, even if I am actually sick. And with his job, Jake and I hardly get to spend time together during daylight hours.
“Well, if you really mean it, how could I say no?” I pressed a featherlight kiss to his forehead, before lightly shoving his shoulder,
“You’re on coffee duty, though.”
Huffing out a long, dramatic sigh, he got up and shuffled into the kitchen.
________________________
We walked hand-in-hand down the damp cobblestone streets, the sounds of the harbor serving as background noise for our contented silence.
When Jake promised me an adventure this morning, I didn’t think he meant “window shopping for the bar.”
I was more than happy to tag alongthough. Few things made me happier than watching him get excited about his work.
I loved seeing his eyes light up every time we stumbled upon something that he felt would make the bar he owned and managed with his brothers just slightly more welcoming.
I was completely transfixed by him, as we stood outside of a shop that sold vintage cookware. He was in a quiet conversation with himself, debating the merits of switching to an all cast iron set up for the kitchen.
I couldn’t help but stare. The way the light hit his hair, almost giving it a copper tint. The way he rubbed his free hand against his mouth, his brow furrowed in concentration.
He truly was beautiful and I still don’t know how I got so lucky to stumble across him.
I felt him lightly squeeze my hand, tearing me out of my thoughts.
“Ya hear me, honey?”
A faint blush painted my cheeks, as I shook my head ‘no.’
“I said that I think we should head over there” he nodded his head toward an occult shop across the street.
He’d always been the (far more) spiritual counterpart to my skeptical self.
“For what, Jacob?”
“Been thinking about getting some authentic spooky shit for The Bar for Halloween”
I let out a laugh,
“Let’s just stop at Target. I’m sure they have something sufficiently spooky.”
“That’s not very adventurous of you.”
I rolled my eyes and gave him a mock salute
“Aye Aye, Captain, lead the way.”
________________________
The bell on the door chimed as we entered the shop. We were immediately greeted by the smell of freshly lit incense.
“Welcome to Garden’s Gate!”
The woman behind the counter greeted us warmly, gesturing at the floor to ceiling shelves that lined the walls around the store.
“Take a look around, and holler if you have questions. I think you’ll find that we have something here for everyone.”
She said the last part to me directly.
Good Lord, does she have some type of Skeptic Detector?
We thanked her, and went our separate ways to explore.
Jake made his way deeper into the store, while I stuck close to the front.
The section I was perusing was, lovingly, I think, dubbed the “Baby Witch” area.
The shelves were filled with books on all topics of occultism, journals, pre-bundled herbs, and basic “supplies.”
However, I found myself gravitating toward the small table of crystals that were set out.
My hands flitted across several before settling on a small, pink tumbled stone that seemed almost out of place amongst the larger, raw stones that sat beside it.
I picked it up, rubbing my fingers along the smooth edges, getting lost in the feel of it in my hand.
“Rose quartz,” I startled at Jake’s voice.
Where did he come from?
He wrapped his arms around my waist, pressing a quick kiss to the top of my head before continuing
“A very romantic stone. Associated with the planet Venus and by extension Libra and Taurus. Thinking about me, are you?”
I rolled my eyes, setting the rose quartz back down. “Maybe I just thought it was pretty, Jacob.”
“Nah, I think it was fate, Red.”
I turned to face him, noticing that he had set a small basket filled with “authentically spooky” items on the ground beside us.
“Ready to head out?” I asked, nodding my head to the basket.
“Mhm”
He laced his fingers with mine before leading me to the front counter.
Jake made small-talk with the woman behind the counter as she rang him up and bagged his items.
She looked into my eyes, as she handed Jake his bag and receipt,
“Y’know. I don’t typically do this, but I’d love to give you a reading, free of charge.”
“Oh, I don’t know. That sounds like it’s more his thing…” I smiled awkwardly
“That may be true, but the universe doesn’t have any messages for him right now.”
I shifted back and forth on my feet, thinking for a moment.
What’s the harm? I don’t believe in this crap anyway.
“Okay, I guess”
“Perfect! Follow me.” She walked out from behind the counter, flipping the Open sign to Closed, then led us to the back of the store, opening an unassuming door and practically shoving us inside.
At the center of the dimly lit room, there was a table set up with chairs on either side of it.
In the middle of the burgundy crushed velvet tablecloth sat a deck of tarot cards and a half-burned white taper candle.
“I truly don’t normally do this. I prefer to schedule readings in advance to avoid having to shut the store down in the middle of the day,”
The shopkeeper let out a laugh and invited us to have a seat while she busied herself with lighting the candle and shuffling the cards,
“However, the second you walked in the store, I knew I had to do a reading for you.”
“That’s… interesting”
She stopped shuffling and asked me to cut the deck into 3 separate stacks, then began shuffling the stacks into each other again.
Why am I so nervous?
I glanced toward Jake, and he squeezed my hand reassuringly.
She finally set the deck down.
“Before I get started, I want you to take a few deep breaths and try to clear your mind. Picture yourself breathing in positivity, and exhaling negativity. Let me know when you’re ready.”
I huffed out a small laugh, but closed my eyes and did as she requested.
On each inhale I thought of everything I had to be thankful for, and on each exhale I sent out all my doubts, worries, and insecurities.
“I think I’m ready.” I opened my eyes to find her already staring back at me.
“Great! I’ll explain as I go, but I do feel called to do a Past/Present/Future spread for you. So, the first card I pull will represent your past; what you’ve overcome and what you’ve grown from. The second card I pull will represent your present; where you are currently at, areas that may still need work. The third card I pull will represent your future; where you will be, and what you have to look forward to.”
I nodded along with her, as she placed her right hand on the deck and took a deep breath.
I instinctively leaned forward in my chair as she flipped three cards over in rapid succession.
She studied them for a moment before glancing quickly between Jake and me, smiling
“Your interest in the Rose Quartz makes sense, now”
I raised an eyebrow, looking down at the cards before me.
“This one right here, your Past, is the Two of Swords,” she pointed to each sword, then the blindfolded woman between them
“She is…well- was, in your case, at an impasse. Stuck between two choices; your heart and your head. You wanted nothing more than to be loved, and to share your love freely in return. But the logical side of you wouldn’t allow that. You can correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like your hesitation was related to a much larger issue. Possibly your family or your career?”
I found myself nodding along, despite my better judgment. I didn’t want to give her too much information to work with.
“This leads us into your Present, the Two of Cups. The man and woman here are fairly self explanatory. It’s obvious what choice you made in your past,, I want to focus on this back here,”
She points at the symbol between the man and woman, each holding a cup, on the card.
I’ve seen this before. It’s used in the medical field.
“This symbol is a Caduceus. It’s the symbol of Hermes, the messenger of the gods in Greek mythology. Hermes, being a messenger, also ruled over Communication. This card showing up in your present means that you’ve found a good foundation with your partner, and you’re able to clearly communicate your wants and desires with them. Because of this partnership, you’re able to ‘fill each other’s cups.” Neither of you take more than is offered, nor do you expect it. It’s very mutually beneficial.”
I nodded, and caught Jake nodding along this time as well.
“Finally, for your Future, we have The Four of Wands. This is an absolutely beautiful card to see in a reading like this,”
She points, first, to the couple joyfully dancing underneath a wreath.
“They are symbolic of a well deserved period of joy. Instead of the calm before the storm, think about right after the storm, when the birds come back out from their hiding places to greet the sun. Your future will be full of that love and happiness if you continue on the path that you are on now.”
Shethen, pointed to the four wands that held the wreath the couple was dancing beneath.
“These symbolize all the little foundations that you’ve built so far, and the ones you will continue to build. If you continue to nourish them, they will be fruitful,”
She finally points out the Castle in the background.
“And this is the fruit of all the labor you’ll put in. This is your home, where you belong.”
I sat there for a second, my head spinning.
There’s absolutely no way this wasn’t planned. She has to have some special romance deck hidden away, full of fairytale cards, waiting for women like me to come in.
“That’s all I have for you, today. I hope it was helpful, or reassuring at the very least. Now, if you’ll excuse me, the shop won’t run itself.”
She stood, snuffing the candle and opening the door for us.
“I do hope to see you two lovebirds back in here.”
Jake and I stood and began making our way to the exit, thanking the woman as we crossed the threshold.
“Can you believe that? What a load of nonsense.” I looked at Jake as the shop door closed behind us.
“Sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself of that, Honey.” He smiled at me, then dragged me into the alleyway beside the shop.
He pressed my back into the brick wall behind us, pressing hot, open mouthed kisses up my neck.
“What are you doing, Jacob?” It came out breathier than I intended.
“Why don’t I take you home and prove to you just how right she was about us?”
I squirmed against him as he nipped at my jaw.
“By all means.”

14 Ways To Live A Healthier Life That Anyone Can Do
Use cast iron, stainless steel, glass, and ceramic cookware/dishes. Use wooden and steel for the utensils. Ditch the plastic and chemicals! They are even finding microplastic in the blood of newborn babies! If you can't afford to switch, switch slowly and buy second-hand! These materials will last through generations!
Buy and cook more fresh, high-quality food. Stop buying premade and processed garbage! The hidden massive amounts of fake sugar and additives in everything is far more damaging than a little bit of extra grass-fed butter or grass-fed meat on your plate. You can find local and even organic produce and meat for cheap at your local freshmarket, mexican grocery store, or asian grocery store. Aldi and Trader Joe's are also healthy yet cheap stores! You will also be surprised how little time it takes to cook versus having something pre-made, and with home-made food you'll have control over exactly how much sugar, fat, etc you have in a given meal. Neither of these are bad in moderation, but the key is moderation!
Prioritize your health and try to create less stress. Brush and floss your teeth, take care of your skin, eat as well as you can, move more, and sleep enough. These are things you should be doing AT MINIMUM to stay healthy. Stress also has a huge impact on health, so it is important to do your best to lower everyday stress and balance your hormones.
Do things that make you feel good. This ties into the less stress philosophy and the rule of everything in moderation, and this looks different for everyone, but generally focus on hobbies and habits that are good for you overall and dont cause addiction or mental health issues. The more things you incorporate into your life that you enjoy, the more you will enjoy your life.
Be aware of your feelings and honor them. No ignoring how you feel deep down! Notice what makes you smile and what makes you sad. Feel it all and try to see what your brain and body are trying to communicate to you about things. Your emotions and thoughts have a purpose, try to see what they're saying.
Try to wear or use more organic materials. Try to use cotton, linen, wool, etc for your clothes, sheets, and more. For jewelry try to use gold, silver, steel, copper, etc. Drop the acrylics and plastics. Invest in your clothing and wear quality materials - your health and wallet will thank you.
Try to kick any drug or alcohol habits. We only have one body in this lifetime and these things WILL catch up to you healthwise. The short-term dopamine is not worth the long-term consequences. Ask anyone who's suffered from their decisions from when they were younger.
Spend more time in nature. Being outside has many health benefits and it does incredible things for mental health. Find a place you can visit outside that brings you peace. Try taking a daily walk.
Learn to set boundaries for yourself. Including towards yourself! If you are pushed past your limits of exhaustion, honor your body and rest. It is okay to have soft, flexible boundaries, or hard boundaries, but they are rules we put in place in regards to ourselves to keep ourselves safe and happy! IE - "If I need sleep I will not keep pushing myself and I will go to sleep" or "I will not put up with being yelled at and I will remove myself from that situation".
Walk as much as you can, while you can. Try to opt out of convenience when possible and walk a little further to the front door of the store or try incorporating a daily walk into your routine. Moderate exercise is great for our health!
Do something daily that will exercise your brain. Whether it is a fun crossword puzzle or just something in your daily life you need to problem solve, do something that is going to flex that brain power and keep those pathways firing. If we don't use our connections, we literally lose them over time!
Talk to at least one person a day for at least 5 minutes. We are social creatures that thrive off community, so it is extremely important for our mental health to find connection with others and feel seen and heard and like we matter. Not only that, routinely reaching out to others will help you make and maintain relationships of all natures!
Educate yourself. Learning shouldn't just stop after you finish schooling. You should continually be trying to further your knowledge about yourself and the world around you. You live in the age where information is readily available all the time, so make an effort to use it to better your life, and learn how to sift through the misinformation as well. Not knowing how to do something is no longer an excuse as an adult when you can easily look it up or ask for guidance.
Consume more positive media and less media overall. What we watch and listen to really affects our thoughts, moods, and subconscious. There is a reason upbeat music motivates us! Try to keep your media exposure to uplifting and feel-good things rather than ones that cause anxiety or sadness.

Where in the world: Balkash, Kazakhstan
Tumblr media
Copper--it's used to make everything from coins to cookware, and in the case of Balkash, an entire city was built on it.
Tumblr media
In 1928, a wealth of copper reserves were discovered on the site where the city now stands along the northern shore of Lake Balkash. By 1937, the settlement that had been set up to provide goods and shelter to workers in the area had become the city.
Tumblr media
Over the next few decades, the mining and metallurgical operations in Balkash supplied much-needed copper to the USSR and the rest of the world. After Kazakhstan gained its independence in 1991, Balkash continued to be a major hub for copper.
Today, about 66,000 people live in Balkash, and copper's still a really big deal. They build monuments out of it--like this one that commemorated the 50th anniversary of the company formed to mine copper from the region.
Tumblr media
Its rich warm colors are also echoed in the architecture like on the facade of this mosque.
Tumblr media
Each year, the anniversary of the opening of the copper plant is celebrated as a holiday, and nearly everyone has at least one family member who works in the industry. Since 1952, nearly 13 million copper cathodes have been shipped out of the city, and so many tons of raw copper have left Balkash bound for elsewhere that they've literally lost count of how much has been produced. The next time you see a penny or flip an egg over in your copper-clad skillet, you just might be encountering a little piece of Balkash's history.

Look Back, by Looking Forwards
Universe: Starbound CW: Fantasy religion, food Words: 1,653 Context: Written for the Spring 2023 prompt, "Featherfood".
Tumblr media
The ship hummed gently under Mio's touch as she idly scanned the navigation console. Nobu was worried about one of the ship's fins, so she was searching for a repair station when there was a rap on the Bridge door. "Come," Mio called, attention still on her search. "Irritated. Captain, I demand you remove crewmember Xictli from my kitchen." Mio turned towards the copper glitch, tilting her head. "Why? What's the matter, Sparkfoot?" "She has pilfered my pantry, abused my cookware, and is carving up my kitchen! Demanding. You need to improve these conditions!" Mio stood, making calming gestures. "Alright. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. I'll speak to her now."
Mio left the Bridge with Sparkfoot marching beside her, and headed to the back of the ship, towards the Commons and crew quarters. At the junction between Mech and Hydroponics, Mio stopped. "Why don't you wait here?" she said, gesturing to the armchair. Sparkfoot shook his head. "Surly. I would rather see justice." "Apologies. Let me make myself clearer: Ordering. You will remain here." Sparkfoot's eye lights winked on and off. Mio crossed her arms. Sparkfoot gracefully descended into the chair. "Tetchy. I will remain here." "Grateful." With a dip of her head, Mio set off again, through Hydroponics, through the crew lounge, and into the Commons.
Inside, she found most of her crew clustered together, listening to the banging and crashing from the galley. "What, by the Ocean Tides, is going on here?" As one, the crew jumped, turning to view their irate captain. "Back to work. All of you!" The crew started to dissipate, but Fife, the medic, paused on the way out. "Don't be too hard on her, Cap'n," yon said. "There's an important date coming up on the Grounded calendar." Mio nodded. "I'll keep that in mind."
Mio hardly knew how to make sense of Sparkfoot's usually ordered galley. The surfaces not covered with flour were instead smeared with baking grease. A stack of cracked eggshells stood on the counter next to a huge mixing bowl and a tub leaking pale pink goo. On the hob, emitting a dark miasma, was a tray of charcoal bricks. Xictli – dressed in an outfit peppered with beads, golden thread, and flour – stood over the tray, an ebb and flow of obscenities frothing from the sunset-orange avian. "Lieutenant Xictli, by salt and sand, what are you doing? Sparkfoot is livid, and you know how long it took me to find a chef who would stay longer than three jumps. Please get this place back into Bristol fashion, post haste." "With all due respect, Captain, I can't. Not until I've finished this." Xictli lowered her head, making a slow swiping motion with her beak. "Sparkfoot doesn't have all the right ingredients, so I was trying to improvise. But," she gestured defeatedly to the lumps of charcoal, "it's not working."
Mio took a breath, letting it out slowly to avoid flaring her gills. She paced to the sink, drew a glass of water, and held it out to Xictli. "Tell me what you're trying to do. I can't help if you don't explain." Xictli looked from the water to her captain and back. She sighed, dipping her beak into the glass to lap up the water. "The anniversary of the Grounded Ascendancy is tomorrow. It's the day we cast off the chains of Kluex and fled Avos to the stars. Our ancestors took few victuals that day, and in honour of their courage, we eat the same as they did. The key dish is Featherfood." "Why didn't you say before?" Mio raised a brow ridge. "I would have been happy to add that to the last supply run. You know I would." "According to tradition, it has to be made in one's home. I can't remember the last time I left the ship, let alone went back to Merak's Nest."
Mio closed her lower two eyes, humming to herself, as Xictli took another sip of water. Mio opened her eyes. "What," she asked thoughtfully, "constitutes declaring a place one's home?" "I- Captain? I'm not sure I understand." Xictli ground her beak. "Must one have lived there for a long time? May one have only spent one night there? Could," Mio added pointedly, "it be as simple as a place another has opened to you for use?" Xictli blinked. "Well. Um. Since our ancestors made their victuals in the homes of people they stayed with, I would say the latter could count. Captain, I'm still confused…" "Get me a shopping list of ingredients you'll need and get this place squared away. Then meet me by the secondary teleporter on level seven of the Altais colony in two hours. Understood?" "But- Cap-?" Mio flared her gills. "Is that understood?" "Yes, Captain."
~~~
Xictli waited against the trunk of a tree, head back, watching the flickering lights in the night sky as glowing rain pattered down into the leaves, painting the world with bright gold. On the wind, from the far end of the park, came the gentle tinkle of a wind chime. She sighed, eyes sliding closed. A hum started in the back of her throat, joined by rhythmic clicks and whistles.
"That's a pretty tune. I didn't know you could sing." Xictli's eyes snapped open. "Sorry, I didn't mean to keep you waiting," Mio said. She'd changed from her uniform into a red kimono, the silk changing from poppy-bright to wine-dark in the flickering rain. Mio smiled. "I forgot what a pain feathercrowns are to pull. This way."
Xictli blinked and followed as the Captain made her way through the park and down the wide road. "Where are we going?" Xictli asked. Mio glanced back with a smile. "You'll see. Did you get the galley back to good order?" "Yes, Captain. I… I also apologised to Chef." Mio's shoulders dipped with the release of tension. "Thank you."
After a short walk, they turned off the main road into a short alley and stopped in front of a modest wooden house. Mio touched a webbed hand to a sensor, and the door swung open. "Boots off, please," she said, walking in. Xictli kicked off her boots and stood, nonplussed, in the entryway. "What is this place?" "Welcome, child of Merak," Mio said, holding out a pair of slippers in both hands. "I open my home to you and greet you with the affection of family. Whatever you need, I shall provide, so long as my hospitality is not abused." Xictli opened her beak but wordlessly shut it again. Mio gave a gentle smile. "I think that should do the trick. Come now, we've got baking to get started on." Xictli slid her feet into the slippers and trailed after Mio.
The house was refined, almost delicate. Wide windows framed the planet's sweet meadows and gently rolling hills. White textured walls contrasted classic dark-wood furniture, decorated with greenery and ocean mementoes. The kitchen was a mix of warm rustic cabinets and modern appliances. Onto the table, Mio was unpacking food from a bag. "I have everything you included on that list, and a few extra items for dinner," she said, folding the bag and placing it out of the way. "Where do we start?"
~~~
Xictli directed preparations: While Mio diced the feathercrows, cooking them with sugar to make a compote, Xictli sliced open the beakseeds. She scooped out the crunchy seeds, grinding them into a powder to mix with the flour and more sugar. With the compote cooling on the stove, Mio mashed the beakseed pulp with a little water, then handed it to Xictli who stirred it into the dry ingredients to make a dough. They split the dough, kneaded it and left it to rise while they had a cup of fragrant tea and dinner of rice cakes and coralcreep sushi.
Then it was back to work, rolling the dough and shaping it into long flat strips. Mio followed Xictli's instructions, adding a little compote and winding the dough into a spiral. The buns went into the oven – watched carefully this time – until they'd risen to a glorious golden brown. Sweet, yeasty steam billowed from the oven as the buns were carefully removed, and the two women gazed at the sticky Featherfood with pride. "Oh, they smell delicious," Mio said. "Do you think we should sample one? Just to make sure the others are alright, you understand…" Xictli grinned, nudging Mio in the side. "Oh, I understand. But no, they're for the celebrations. Webs off. There's one last touch missing…" From a small earthenware pot, Xictli drew delicate petals of edible gold shaped like feathers and placed one in the center of each bun. "Perfect."
~~~
With the buns slid into the fridge, Mio led Xictli to a guest room. "We may as well stay here for the night and return to the ship tomorrow. Will that give you enough time to prepare for the ceremony?" "Yes." Xictli dipped her beak, making that sliding motion again. "Captain… I don't even know how to begin to thank you for your assistance…" Mio held up a hand. "You don't need to. Xictli, you're not just my lieutenant. You're my right-hand, one of my oldest crewmembers. Dare I say…" colour rose to her cheeks, "a best friend. My family. I am embarrassed you felt you couldn't come to me for help in the first place." "I know. I should have. You're so busy though, and I didn't want to bother you with something so trivial-" "Trivial! Xictli, one's beliefs are not trivial. Carrying out one's customs and ceremonies is not trivial. Please," Mio took Xictli's hands, "next time, don't hesitate. What's the point of building the New Protectorate if my own crew can't practice their culture without fear." Xictli closed her eyes and dipped her beak. "Thank you, Mio." Mio smiled, squeezing Xictli's hands before letting them go. "Always, my friend."
Stainless Steel versus Titanium - Know the Difference
Metallic materials like Stainless steel (SS) and Titanium (Ti) have been utilised in industry for decades. Both gold and silver are historically desirable, yet each has its own set of virtues and weaknesses.
Stainless steel and Titanium are two very different metals with very different properties. Composition of individual elements, resistance to corrosion, thermal conductivity, density, electrical conductivity, hardness, melting point, and a host of other properties set them apart. Tube Trading Co., is the most distinguished Stainless steel pipes dealer in Vadodara, Gujarat that can fulfil all of your pipes and tubes requirements.
●   Nature:
Titanium is a metal, while SS is an alloy, and this is the main distinction between the two.
●   Element composition:
Pure titanium consists of many elements, including hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, nickel, as well as iron among others. Titanium is the most abundant element, with the percentages of the other elements ranging from 0.013 to 0.5. Contrarily, stainless steel is composed of many different substances, including 11% chromium and anything from 0.03 to more than 1.00% of other substances.
●   Corrosion resistance:
Other things to keep in mind when dealing with corrosion-related difficulties. Stainless steel has strong mechanical characteristics but weak corrosion resistance, while titanium provides exceptional rust resistance qualities as well as mechanical stability.
●   Electrical conductivity:
Titanium's electrical conductivity is low when compared to that of copper, the standard by which such measurements are made. To compare, stainless steel's copper conductivity is 3.5 percent, while this material only manages 3.1 percent.
●   Thermal conductivity:
Stainless steel and Titanium are also comparable in another way: heat conductivity. Stainless steel and Titanium are highly rated for their thermal conductivity. Titanium has been measured to have a heat conductivity of 118 BTU/hr/ft2 at 118°F. However, the thermal conductivity of stainless steel ranges from 69.4 to 238 BTU-in/hr-ft2-°F.
●   Melting point:
Comparatively, the melting point of titanium is 1650-1670°C (3000-3040°F), while that of stainless steel is 1230-1530°C (2250-2790°F). This illustrates that, when it comes to melting point specifications, titanium is preferred above stainless steel.
●   Hardness:
The Brinell hardness of stainless steel varies greatly from alloy to alloy and heat treatment to heat treatment, but it is often harder than titanium. Titanium, on the other hand, quickly deforms when scratched or cut. If you are looking for an excellent Stainless steel pipes supplier in Vadodara, Gujarat, look no further than Tube Trading Co.
One of the most notable distinctions between Stainless steel and Titanium is their relative densities. Titanium's remarkable strength-to-weight ratio means it's about as strong as stainless steel (at the same density) but much lighter (at only 40% the weight). In tests, titanium was found to be significantly lighter than steel while maintaining its strength.
What’s better Stainless steel or Titanium?
In both the consumer and industrial sectors, Stainless steel and Titanium are used. These two metals are both beautiful and unique in their own ways. To choose wisely, you'll need a deep familiarity with metals.
In Cookware:
There is a wide variety of cookware available made from different materials. You can weigh the benefits of each material to figure out which is best for your needs. Consider these two cookware materials and decide which one is best for you.
Tools like knives, scissors, and other cutters are made from stainless steel. These knives have a longer lifespan than titanium blades because of their superior design and durability. Although it's heavier than aluminium and titanium, stainless steel's cooking performance falls somewhere in between those two metals. It retains heat very well and has a very long lifespan. Stainless steel is a popular material because of its reasonable price and understated sophistication.
One of titanium's major selling points is how well it performs despite its low weight. Titanium is 45% lighter in weight than steel and a little heavier than aluminium in weight. Cookware made from this material is the lightest on the market. It is highly durable and resistant to corrosion. Boiling water in a titanium pot is a good idea because the material's thin walls allow for a rapid transmission of heat. In general, these vessels are wonderful for cooking a standard dinner. Those who are watching their calorie intake and would prefer a quick boil supper should go for titanium.
In Machines:
Titanium precision machined parts may be difficult to fabricate. The expense of machining titanium is thirty times that of steel. Titanium has various benefits despite its high raw material and machining costs. Titanium, like stainless steel, is strong yet much lighter in weight. Titanium has the same strength as stainless steel but is only about half as dense. Titanium parts are widely used in the aerospace industry due to their durability and light weight. Titanium is used to manufacture medical components because of its excellent material biocompatibility. For all of your industrial tubes and pipes needs, get in touch with the most popular as well as reliable Stainless steel pipes distributor in Vadodara, Gujarat.
SS is the most popular as well as preferred metals for application in every field. Stainless steel's strength and resistance to corrosion make it a desirable material. When saving weight is more important than other considerations, as is performance at extreme temperatures, titanium is the metal of choice. SS is the material of choice when cost efficiency is crucial. Stainless steel's adaptability stems, in part, from the diversity of alloys available, which facilitate its employment in settings such as welding.
