Too Mentally Isolated

On the outside I am what you hope to see, on the inside I isolate myself while craving freedom. Like a broken record you ask me, “What’s wrong?”. I respond while walking on a mental tightrope. One wrong word could cause me to lose balance and fall into a bottomless pit. While falling I'm surrounded by your voice, “You always have anxiety”, “You're just a moody teenager”, “You’re just on your period”. To avoid walking the line I bite my tongue, preventing the water flow in front of you. Sometimes I’m just as confused as you are when it flows unexpectedly and when I tell you, “I don’t know” I lose balance, then start to fall. Exploding at my lack of explanation, words fly from your lips like defining fireworks. “How am I supposed to help you if you don’t tell me what’s wrong?!”, “Do I need to call your therapist?!”, “You never talk to me!”, “All you do is stay in your room!”. Not being able to think, I force the same phrase out, “I don’t know!”. Barely able to breath as the unexplained emotions dripping from my sleep deprived eyes drown me. Why should I willingly describe my demons if all you have to offer is the hell pit underneath the tightrope. You encourage the insecurities my demons use to tear me apart. I start to question if what they say is true. Maybe I am truly an overactive teenager, that the medication everyone insists I take everyday is pointless, as if the long list of diagnoses were just excuses. I’d rather cut the rope myself and drown before you try to “help” me. So I let the lies rip through my throat, allowing you to believe everything is okay. To make you hope I’m the normal, straight, cis girl from the past that you knew and loved. To keep this hope alive I hide my demons from everyone, my secret. I use every ounce of energy to keep them inside. When they force themselves out of my unwilling eyes during our interactions the only thing I fear, is you.
