Rahul Gandhi's Pak Question At Meeting On Bangladesh, S Jaishankar's Reply
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi fielded three key questions to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during the all-party meeting on the situation in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina's ouster as Prime Minister amid violent protests.
Tumblr media
Mr Gandhi asked what is the government's short-term and long-term strategy in dealing with diplomatic ramifications of the power shift in Dhaka, sources have said. The minister replied that it is a developing situation and the Centre is analysing it closely so that it can fine-tune its next move.
The Congress leader also asked if there could be an involvement of foreign powers, specifically Pakistan, in the dramatic developments in Dhaka over the past few weeks that culminated in Hasina's ouster, the sources said. The Centre replied that it is investigating this angle. A source also pointed out that the government had said that a Pakistan diplomat had been constantly changing his social media display picture to reflect the situation in Bangladesh amid violent protests. The Centre said is probing if this points to anything bigger.
He also asked if New Delhi had foreseen the dramatic turn of events in Bangladesh. To this, the External Affairs Minister replied that India is monitoring the situation.
Congress and the other Opposition parties have pledged their full support to the Narendra Modi government in its handling of the neighbourhood crisis.
Following the meeting, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar put out a post on X, appreciating the Opposition's unanimous support. "Briefed an All-Party meeting in Parliament today about the ongoing developments in Bangladesh. Appreciate the unanimous support and understanding that was extended," he wrote.
At the meeting, also attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, the Centre told MPs from all parties about the background to the crisis in Bangladesh and how it reached this point. They were also briefed about the situation there and how Ms Hasina escaped to India as her residence was stormed by protesters.
Ms Hasina is still in India and is likely to fly to the UK for political asylum. The Centre also told the all-party meet how it plans to respond to Ms Hasina, known to be New Delhi's old friend. Sources said New Delhi wants to give her time to decide her next course of action.
The government also told the meeting that it is in touch with Bangladesh Army, which has announced the formation of an interim government. The government told the Opposition parties that it is watching the developments closely and will take appropriate action at the right time.
There are about 20,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh and about 8,000 have returned. The government is in touch with them and the high commission is functioning. The Centre, sources said, is also tracking reports of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.
Speaking to NDTV after the meeting, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said that India's primary concern is the safety of Indian nationals in Bangladesh and the situation at the borders. Asked if the Opposition is satisfied with the way the government is handling the situation, he said, "The fact that the External Affairs Minister briefed all party leaders is a very welcome step. And we are with the government as far as national security is concerned."

I will always be thankful to Dr. Anees Sheikh, the professor who taught Psychology of Fantasy and Imagination while I was a sophomore in college. His class truly opened my eyes to the potential of one's creativity, and how you can harness the power of it rather than letting your imagination run away with you.
It was the one class I ALWAYS looked forward to and absolutely loved the assignments. I can't think of another professor I can say that about other than Fr. Raymond Gawronski, SJ (and really, I only loved Gawronski's lectures, but not the homework, lol)
I just learned he published a couple of books since I graduated. I'm really excited to look them up!

Journalist Ismail Al-Ghoul reports that the IOF have bulldozed and razed Sheikh Shaaban cemetery, destroying graves and leaving the desecrated bodies to rot. Journalist Fadi Al-Whidi has documented this practice as well at another site.
The purpose of this act is likely three-fold: to terrorize and dishearten the population, to erase traces that Palestinians ever had a society in Gaza, and to expose the people of north Gaza to disease vectors from decaying corpses. Dr. Tamer Al-Najjar has previously documented that the amount of unburied bodies, combined with the collapse of waste and water systems, as well as the onset of flood from heavy rain, pose a significant risk to public health.
I will not post Ismail Al-Ghoul’s video here because parts of it are graphic and disturbing. However, I will post a link to it here for anyone who wants to verify.

[ThePrint is Indian Private Media]
Speaking to ThePrint minutes after Hasina left Bangladesh, Yunus, who has been charged by the Hasina government in over 190 cases, said, “Bangladesh is liberated… We are a free country now.”
“We were an occupied country as long as she (Hasina) was there. She was behaving like an occupation force, a dictator, a general, controlling everything. Today all the people of Bangladesh feel liberated.”[...]
Yunus was convicted by the Hasina-led government in January for violating the country’s labour laws and is currently out on bail.[...]
Yunus, founder of the pioneering microfinance system that lifted millions of poor out of poverty in Bangladesh, ruled out any role in active politics. “I’m not the kind of person who would like to be in politics. Politics is not my cup of tea,” he maintained.
Currently in Paris, he said he would soon return to Bangladesh and continue to work for the people the way he did earlier.[...]
“I will continue with my work in a more free environment that I didn’t have during the regime of Sheikh Hasina because she was always attacking me. I will continue, devote myself to the things I could not do before,” he said.
Earlier in the day, coming down heavily on the Hasina-led government, Yunus had in a separate interview with ThePrint demanded that she resign immediately.[...]
He added that unlike the US, India has played a “major role” as far as Bangladesh is concerned.
“I don’t know what role they are playing now in this scenario and what role they will play in the upcoming situation,” he told ThePrint.[...]
The Nobel Laureate said that with Hasina no longer calling the shots in Dhaka, things have changed in Bangladesh and he is not sure what role opposition parties including former PM Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will play in the current scenario.
He added that the BNP was silent so far because they have been under attack all along. “Now in a free country, how they emerge, how they decide their policies and actions, if there is an election, what role they will play in the elections, how they perform in the elections, is not very clear as of now.”
[Dhaka Tribune is Bengali Private Media]
The coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have announced an outline for an interim government headed by Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.
This information was conveyed in a video message by key coordinators of the student movement, Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud, and Abu Bakar Mazumdar, at 4:15am on Tuesday.[...]
The army chief also mentioned that he would soon meet with representatives of students and teachers.
He expressed confidence that the situation would return to normal soon and sought all-out cooperation from people of all classes and professions, including students, regardless of party affiliations and opinions.

I often post about Palestine but I'd like to take a moment to talk about what's happening in Bangladesh.
KEEP YOUR EYE ON BANGLADESH
TL;DR Students killed for protesting the government's quota system. Students are being arrested and murdered for speaking up about their deceased friends. Everyone is being threatened by the government and many social media platforms are being banned.
All I'm asking is to spread the word. Please. International pressure really works for our nation. We're dying here. UNICEF reports 34 children dead. There might be more. All reblogs and likes and shares are appreciated. Thank you. I guess I'll see you tomorrow.
Past
A movement protesting the government's quota system put forth by the father of our nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This was placed in the first place to help the grandchildren of those who fought in the Liberation War of our country to get government jobs. We have a terrible job market here which is why many highly educated people leave the country. On 16th July, While protesting, a Student named Abu Sayed of Begum Rokeya University was killed by the police. This only stoked the feelings of injustice between the students.
During a press conference, the PM was asked about the quota for the grandchildren of veterans. Her response? "If we don't give jobs to the grandchildren of Veterans, will we give jobs to the grandchildren of Razakars?" Razakars are the people who collaborated with the Pakistani Forces to bring down the Bangladeshi freedom fighters. They betrayed the nation for their own gain.
Traitors.
Imagine calling the youth of your nation traitors.
Imagine calling almost 14 million young people who can't find a job despite their credentials betrayers.
Imagine cursing people who are protesting for job equality under a government with the all time highest corruption in the history of this nation.
On 17th July the broadband connection centre in Mohakhali was burned down. Mobile data services and communication were shut down by the PM. After 11 days the internet was properly restored.
On 19th July, A National Military Curfew was put in place by the Prime Minister to mitigate the unrest.
But that was last month. If you need details I highly recommend sources in Bangladesh like the Daily Star or reputable like Al Jazeera. The quota has since been lifted. Lives were lost. But it was for a good cause, right?
Right?
RIGHT?
Present
Well no. There's still a curfew in the capital. Several districts like Cumilla are still under attack. The government warns of not spreading misinformation yet still lie about the severity of the issue. The police are arresting those who protest as well as those who speak up. The students are demanding for the resignation of the PM. The PM obviously refuses to apologise or even acknowledge the deaths of some 147?
or is it 200?
They're not counting how many they're killing. They're not letting anyone else count either.
It is midnight here. This morning as in 4th August 2024, the students have called for a non cooperation movement. The Ruling Party Awami League will also be holding rallies across the nation tomorrow. I do not know what is going to happen to me. I do not want to think of what will happen to my family tomorrow. I don't really care. What I'm truly scared for is the future. As these protests do not end well here.
Future
Precedence says the PM will eventually resign. Every student protest of our nation has ended in momentary success.
Momentary
What comes after is usually a military regime. A caretaker government until a next government is chosen in a supposed election. Even then if they decide to hold an election. The caretaker government is usually run as a dictatorship. It was true for the 60s. It was true for the 90s. I don't doubt it will happen again.
I'm graduating next year. My niece is still new to the academic system. I wish her the best. My grandmas and grandpas are dead. Nobody left to pray for me. My aunts and uncles are growing old. My cousins can't speak up for fear. My mom is so tired. My dad is angry. I'm unsure if I will still be able to post the next couple of days.
All I'm asking is to spread the word. Please. International pressure really works for our nation. We're dying here. UNICEF reports 34 children dead. There might be more. All reblogs and likes and shares are appreciated. Thank you. I guess I'll see you tomorrow.

[ 📹 Zionist fighter jets bomb an entire residential block sheltering four Palestinian families in the Al-Nuseirat Refugee Camp on Wednesday.]
🇮🇱⚔️🇵🇸 🚀🏡💥🚑 🚨
💥ISRAELI OCCUPATION FORCES COMMIT 8 NEW MASSACRES OF PALESTINIAN FAMILIES ON 145TH DAY OF GENOCIDE💥
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have committed 8 new massacres of Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the martyrdom of 76 civilians, mostly women and children, and wounding another 110 others over the previous 24-hours, on the 145th day of Israel's ongoing genocide.
On Wednesday, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health of the Gaza Strip, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, said in a statement reported on in the Palestinian media that hunger threatens the lives of children in northern Gaza.
Dr. Al-Qydra warned that the Ministry has begun monitoring deaths among infants, confirming that two infants died on Tuesday as a result of dehydration and malnutrition at Kamal Adwan Hospital, with thousands of other children and pregnant women at risk of death as famine and drought spread through the north of the enclave.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation, in another crime, detonated another entire neighborhood in Khan Yunis, including a residential neighborhood west of the city, after which 18 bodies of dead Palestinians were recovered from the area.
The Israeli occupation also bombed a civilian vehicle in Khan Yunis, resulting in the deaths of two civilians.
At the same time, IOF warplanes bombed a total of 7 residential homes over the previous 24-hours in the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, while another civilian residence was bombed in central Gaza, where two civilians died as a result of the Israeli occupation bombing a home in Deir al-Balah.
According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), ambulance crews with the organization transported 34 wounded Palestinians after IOF fighter jets bombarded two civilian homes in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip.
In another Zionist atrocity, Israeli occupation forces opened gunfire on Palestinian families waiting for food aid convoys to arrive on Al-Rashid Street, west of Gaza City, in the northern Gaza Strip, leading to the deaths of three civilians and wounding dozens of others, while occupation aircraft continue to bomb civilian residences in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City.
According to local civil defense crews, they've recorded several reports of missing civilians, both dead and wounded, buried under the rubble and ruins of their homes after being attacked by occupation tanks and armored vehicles.
The Israeli occupation also bombarded and destroyed the old Al-Samer rest house belonging to Abu Jamil Abu Saif, in the Al-Shati Refugee Camp, located to the west of Gaza City.
Meanwhile, occupation artillery shelling targeted two civilian homes in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City, while in the Sheikh Ajlin neighborhood, Zionist artillery shelling resulted in the deaths of three civilians and wounded six others.
Occupation warplanes also continue bombarding Palestinian residences in the Al-Sabra, Al-Rimal, and the Al-Janoubi neighborhoods of Gaza City, while in the southern Gaza Strip, Zionist forces fired seven missiles striking the central and eastern sections of the city, resulting in dozens of casualties among civilians.
Occupation aircraft, just before publishing, also bombarded an entire residential block sheltering four families in the Al-Nuseirat Refugee Camp, in the central Gaza Strip.
As a result of Israel's ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, upwards of 29'954 Palestinians have been murdered, mostly women and children, by the Israeli occupation army, while another 70'325 civilians have been wounded since the start of the current round of Israeli aggression beginning October 7th, 2023.

Pre-World War I, neither #Arabs nor #Jews had their own states; and the #MiddleEast was controlled by the Ottoman Turkish Empire. During the 30 years between the Ottoman Empire’s defeat in 1918 & Israel declaring independence in 1948, there were many opportunities for peace.
1918 - First Meeting Between #Zionist & Arab Leaders
At Aqaba, Zionist leader Dr. Chaim Weizmann first met Emir Feisal (photo below) - son of the Grand Sharif of #Mecca, ruler of the Hejaz, direct descendant of #Mohammed, leader of the #Arab revolt against the Ottomans & by far the most well-known & respected Arab leader of the early 20th century.
Feisal knew that what he called “Southern #Syria” (referred to by the British as “Palestine” & by the Jews as “Eretz Israel”) had become a neglected, largely barren, arid, malarial-swamp-infested wasteland under the Ottomans & felt the #Jewish zeal to revitalize the Land would benefit both Jews & Arabs.
1919 - #Paris Peace Conference
The Paris Peace Conference convened to discuss post-war peace terms & how land of the former Ottoman Empire & Imperial #Germany would be divided.
Emir Feisal represented Arab interests at the Conference
Jan 1919: Weizmann-Feisal Agreement Signed
Dr. Weizmann and Emir Feisal, in Jan 1919, signed an Agreement acknowledging:
“the racial kinship & ancient bonds existing between the Arabs & the Jewish people” and mutually recognizing the Balfour Declaration by declaring “Palestine” the Jewish National Home on which “[a]ll necessary measures will be taken to encourage and stimulate #immigration of Jews into Palestine on a large scale, and as quickly as possible to settle Jewish immigrants upon the land through closer settlement and intensive cultivation of the soil.”
March 1919: Feisal & Frankfurter Exchange Letters
After a meeting between Emir Feisal & Zionist leader Felix Frankfurter in March 1919, Feisal drafted & signed a letter to Frankfurter with the Arab position:
“We feel that the Arabs & Jews are cousins by race, suffering similar oppression at the hands of powers stronger than themselves, & by happy coincidence have been able to take the first step towards the attainment of their national ideals together. We Arabs, especially the educated among us, look with the deepest sympathy on the Zionist movement … we regard [the Zionist proposals] … as moderate and proper … [and] wish the Jews a most hearty welcome home … The Jewish movement is national and not imperialist … there is room in Syria for us both. Indeed I think that neither can be a real success without the other.”
Frankfurter replied to Feisal in a letter acknowledging the Arab position “with deep appreciation” & stating:
“[W]e knew that the aspirations of the Arab and the Jewish peoples were parallel, that each aspired to re-establish its nationality in its own homeland … The Arabs and Jews are neighbors in territory; we cannot but live side by side as friends.”
Apr 4-7 1920 - Violent Nebi Musa Riots & Their Rejection By Several Arab Leaders
While the policy of the #British government was pro-Zionist & pro-Arab, certain British officers on the ground were deeply #antisemitic & worked to foment Arab violence against Jews.
Specifically, British Colonel Waters Taylor (financial advisor to Military Administration in Palestine), met with Arab extremist Amin al-Husseini & encouraged him to incite a riot during Easter to show the Arabs did not support #Zionism.
For four straight days, al-Husseini’s incited mob of ~65,000 Arabs engaged in a riotous #pogrom against the Jewish community in #Jerusalem.
The mob chanted things like, “slaughter the Jews,” “the Jews are our dogs,” and “we will drink Jewish blood,” as they destroyed & looted Jewish shops, homes, & synagogues and then raped and murdered their way through the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City.
As horrifying as the riots were, not all hope was lost as Arab sheikhs from 82 villages around Jaffa & Jerusalem (who claimed to represent 70% of the population) published a document fully condemning the Arab riots & violence against Jews & expressly proclaiming Zionism was “not a danger” to Arabs.
April 20, 1920 - San Remo Conference
At the San Remo Conference, Ottoman & German colonies were split into 15 legal mandates awarded to the Allied powers.
One of those mandates was the British Mandate for Palestine (containing all of modern day Israel, #Gaza, the #WestBank, & the country of #Jordan), which expressly required the British to hold the land in trust while encouraging Jewish immigration to the Land on which there would be a reconstituted Jewish National Home.
Feb 1921 - Churchill meets Jewish & Arab leaders in Palestine
Winston Churchill was put in charge of Britain’s Palestine policy by Prime Minister David Lloyd George & he visited the Land to meet with Jewish & Arab leaders in Feb 1921.
Churchill was stunned by the degree to which the Jews had already developed the land & built large, fully-functioning communities over the prior decades; he also marked the groundbreaking ceremony for #Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Days later, Churchill met with Arab leaders - only those with whom he met were led by another member of the al-Husseini clan, Musa Kazem al-Husseini.
Churchill was stunned as he listed to the Arabs read aloud a 39-page memorandum filled almost exclusively with hatred, demonization, & absurd conspiracy theories about Jews and world domination.
Churchill expressed his disapproval & told the Arab leaders in attendance it was “manifestly right that the Jews should have a National Home … [a]nd where else could that be but in this land of Palestine, with which for more than 3,000 years they have been intimately & profoundly associated? … [W]e also think it will be good for the Arabs who dwell in Palestine.”
March 1921 - British Commission Empowers al-Husseini & Terror Ensues
The British Commission in Palestine appointed Amin al-Husseini “Grand Mufti” - a position that did not previously exist (“mufti” existed, but not “grand mufti”), and that gave him lifelong tenure as the most prominent Arab leader in Palestine.
Al-Husseini almost immediately instigated organized “fedayeen” terror attacks against the Jewish community culminating with riots in Jaffa and Petah Tikvah that left 43 Jews dead only three weeks later.
Following the riots, al-Husseini consolidated his power & took control of all #Muslim religious funds, the mosques, the schools, & the courts. He then wrote to Churchill & demanded an end to Jewish immigration & for Palestine to be “reunited with Syria.”
1922 - Mandate made Official & the First Partition of Palestine
By international treaty, in 1922, the League of Nations officially formalized the British Mandate for Palestine, which adopted the Balfour Declaration, acknowledging the Jewish people’s "historical connections” to the Land, & declaring the British requirement to “facilitat[e] Jewish immigration [and] encourage settlement on the land” while acknowledging the “moral validity of reconstituting” the Jewish nation.
Meanwhile, Churchill acknowledged a segment of the Palestinian Arab community violently rejected the Jews, but he also received express declarations from hundreds of Palestinian Arab sheikhs & mukhtars supporting Jewish immigration to improve the industrial development of the land, which they said would improve the lives of Arabs as well.
In an attempt to quell any further violence & Arab anxieties, with the stroke of a pen, Churchill partitioned the British Mandate for Palestine by slicing off 3/4 of the Land (everything east of the Jordan River) to create a new Arab Muslim country called “Trans-Jordan,” to which Emir Feisal’s brother, Abdullah (also widely recognized as an Arab Muslim leader from #Saudi Arabia), was named king.
Jews were irate at the loss of 75% of the territory promised to them, but ultimately decided to accept Churchill’s White Paper in the spirit of good will toward their Arab neighbors.
Al-Husseini (who now had his thumb on the majority of Palestine’s Arabs, especially since most would not dare challenge him lest they be summarily executed) flatly rejected the extremely Arab-friendly partition & said the whole of the land was Arab.
Just one year later, the British were forced to suspend the Palestine Constitution after Al-Husseini refused to participate in the Mandatory government.
And al-Husseini continued to organize ongoing violence against Jews culminating in the particularly barbaric 1929 Hebron massacre, which began as a result of the now oft-repeated & nearly 100-year-old lie that the Jews were attempting to “destroy al-Aqsa mosque.”
1936 - Start of the Arab Revolt
In April 1936 (3+ years after Hitler first came to power & while the situation of Jews in #Europe was rapidly deteriorating), al-Husseini organized a terror attack on a Jewish bus, which was then followed by three years of organized terror between Palestinian Arab clans & by Arabs against both Jews and the British.
Al-Husseini formed the Arab Higher Committee, declared a national strike & made three demands: (1) cessation of Jewish immigration; (2) end of land sales to Jews; & (3) the establishment of an Arab national government in the whole of Palestine.
1937 - Peel Commission & Recommended Second Partition of Palestine
Britain set up the Peel Commission to investigate the cause of the Arab riots & to make recommendations.
One of the Jewish Zionist leaders, Ze’ev Jabotinsky, was interviewed by the Commission, & his words were hauntingly prophetic.
Jabotinsky told the British the Jews of Europe faced “a disaster of historic magnitude … We have got to save millions, many millions … who are virtually knocking at the door [of Palestine] asking for admission.”
As to the Arab population, Jabotinsky was clear there was no Jewish desire to “oust” any Arabs and he further said “Palestine on both sides of the Jordan should hold the Arabs, their progeny, and many millions of Jews.”
Jabotinsky then acknowledged a movement of Palestine’s Arabs to create yet another Arab state in the land, but he said, “when the Arab claim is confronted with our Jewish demand to be saved, it is like the claims of appetite versus the claims of starvation.”
The Peel Commission ultimately recommended a second partition of Palestine - this time leaving the Jews with only an extraordinarily tiny portion of what is today a sliver of the northwest coast of Israel, and giving the remaining 80% of the land for an Arab state.
The Jews felt betrayed. But they understood, at least on some level, the disaster awaiting their brethren in Europe & the immediate need to provide safe haven.
So, the Jews accepted the Peel Commission’s partition, assuming the Arabs would accept it & agree to live side-by-side in peace.
This time, not only did al-Husseini reject the planned partition, but neighboring Arab leaders & states did as well.
A Syrian pan-Arab Congress rejected the Peel Commission’s recommendations & declared its goal to “liberat[e] the country and establish[] an Arab government.”
1938 - Woodhead Commission & the Evian Conference
The following year, Britain established the Woodhead Commission to study Palestine & try to find borders that both the Jews & Arabs could accept.
The Woodhead Commission made three proposals, all of which saw the once large Jewish nation continue to shrink exponentially.
In its report, the Woodhead Commission noted, “Arabs of all parties & shades of political opinion were unanimous in condemning the plan as inequitable & wholly unacceptable.”
The report further noted that the thought that “peace to Palestine” would be brought by any partition that included a Jewish state of any size was something “we cannot venture to hope.”
One Arab witness interviewed by the Woodhead Commission said if partition is set in motion that creates any Jewish state, “you will have to have a barbed wire right right it … with pill boxes every half kilometer … Hostility in our lifetime there will be.”
Another Arab witness said, “There would be a violent reaction to anything which gives any part of Palestine to the Jews.”
One other Arab witness said that even if a tiny Jewish State was proclaimed, the Arabs might stay quiet at first, but they would merely be “bid[ing] their time, that is all” until the Jewish State would be destroyed.
The Woodhead Commission declared the Arab position as making the conflict in Palestine “irreconcilable.”
Meanwhile, also in 1938, the Evian Conference was called by U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt in #France to allegedly attempt to deal with the Jewish #refugee problem caused by rise of #Nazi Germany.
All 32 nations in attendance at the Evian Conference refused to permit any significant immigration of Jews to their country.
The #Nazis even mocked the world and their “fake” sympathy for the Jews by declaring in Nazi newspaper headlines, “JEWS FOR SALE AT A BARGAIN PRICE—WHO WANTS THEM? NO ONE.”
1939 - St. James Palace Conference & the White Paper
In February 1939, the British held the St. James Palace Conference in #London to try to find a peaceful solution to the problems in Palestine.
However, the Conference was dead on arrival as the Arab delegates refused to meet with their Jewish counterparts.
Meanwhile, just two months later, Britain (then led by anti-Zionist Neville Chamberlain) was preparing for potential war with Germany, acknowledged its dependence on Middle Eastern oil to win that war (thus requiring Arab goodwill), & decided to appease the Arabs.
The 1939 White Paper was issued, abandoning Britain’s legal obligations to establish a Jewish State in Palestine & shutting the doors to further Jewish immigration almost entirely.
When the British submitted the White Paper to the League of Nations for approval, it was rejected as “not in accordance with … the Mandate.”
But the world was on the brink of war, and the League of Nations had no enforcement power. So Britain ignored the League of Nations’ decision.
The Jewish Agency for Palestine called the White Paper a betrayal in the midst of the “darkest hour of Jewish history.”
Zionist leader (and later first Prime Minister of Israel) David Ben-Gurion called the White Paper “the greatest betrayal perpetrated by the government of a civilized people in our generation.”
Dr. Weitzmann called it, “a death sentence for the Jewish people.”
When war broke out later that year & the Holocaust ensued, Europe’s Jews did not have any place on Earth in which they could seek refuge.
Millions of Jews were murdered by the Nazis, but it could be argued they were condemned to their fate by the failure of the Evian Conference and the issuance of the British White Paper.
1945 - End of WWII & the Holocaust
In 1945, the full extent of Nazi atrocities & their systematic slaughter of 6 million of Europe’s Jews (2/3 of the population) was revealed to the world.
Those Jews who survived had no homes to which they could return; & there were multiple violent pogroms against the few Jews who tried to go “home.”
Hundreds of thousands of Jews were homeless #refugees & survivors of #Hitler’s madness; but they could only be put into Displaced Persons camps, which were often in the same location as the Nazi concentration camps in which they had been tortured & where their families had been murdered.
U.S. President Harry Truman was appalled that even in light of the Holocaust & the condition of the surviving displaced refugee Jews, the British refused to end its illegal White Paper policy; and he demanded Britain immediately permit the entry of 100,000 Jewish survivors to Palestine.
Britain, then under the leadership of anti-Zionist Prime Minister Clement Attlee, refused.
1946 - Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry
The Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry was set up in 1946 to study the Jewish refugee problem & the status of the situation in Palestine and make any recommendations.
The Committee found the Arab intransigence to any Jewish immigration & to any Jewish state remained; but given Britain’s legal obligations under the Mandate & the condition of the Jewish refugees in Europe, the Committee recommended the immediate immigration of 100,000 Jews to Palestine to be followed by further steps to arrange a compromise between the Jews & Arabs.
1947 - Britain Abandons the Mandate & Seeks Resolution by the UN
Foreign Minister of Britain (and well-known #antisemite) Ernest Bevin declared in Feb 1947 his recommendation that the Mandate be abandoned since “there is no prospect of reaching … any settlement which would be even broadly acceptable to the two communities in Palestine.”
Bevin described the “irreconcilable” nature of the conflict to the British House of Commons thusly, “For the Jews, the essential point of principle is the creation of a sovereign Jewish State. For the Arabs, the essential point of principle is to resist to the last the establishment of a Jewish sovereignty in any part of Palestine.”
In May 1947, the UN created the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine (“UNSCOP”), & four months later, UNSCOP made its recommendations that included a partition of Palestine into one Jewish state & one Arab state - each on approximately 50% of the Land (which, for the Jews, represented a mere 1/8 of the territory originally set aside for Jewish immigration and a Jewish State).
The Jews accepted the UN’s proposal, but the Arabs rejected it.
Sept 1947 - Attempts to Avoid War
On Sept 16, 1947, Zionist leaders met with the leader & secretary-general of the Arab League, Abdul Rahman Azzam Pasha.
The Zionist leaders pointed out the #UN had spoken, but also said they were “genuinely desirous of an agreement with the Arabs & [were] prepared to make sacrifices for one.” Generous compromises were offered.
Pasha, however, responded thusly:
“It’s likely … that your plan is rational & logical, but the fate of nations is not decided by rational logic. Nations never concede; they fight. You won’t get anything by peaceful means or compromise. You can, perhaps, get something, but only by the force of arms. We shall try to defeat you. I’m not sure we’ll succeed, but we’ll try.”
Abba Eban (later Israel’s first Ambassador to the UN) tried to reason with Pasha, saying he would “welcome any counterproposal from your side.”
But Pasha responded:
“An agreement will only be acceptable at our terms … We have only one test, the test of strength. If I were a Zionist leader, I might have behaved the way you’re doing. You have no alternative. In all events, the problem now is only soluble by the force of arms.”
Oct 2, 1947 - Zionist Leaders Urge Reconciliation with Local Arabs
The Assembly of Palestine Jewry issued an appeal on Oct 2, 1947 that read:
“We will do everything in our power to maintain peace, & establish a cooperation gainful to both [Jews & Arabs]. It is now, here & now, from Jerusalem itself, that a call must go out to the Arab nations to join forces with Jewry & the destined Jewish State and work shoulder to shoulder for our common good, for the peace and progress of sovereign equals.”
There was no similar call from the Arab world in response.
Nov 1947 - UN Partition Vote & Outbreak of Civil War
On Nov 29, 1947, the UN voted to approve General Assembly Resolution 181 adopting partition as recommended by UNSCOP.
The Jews celebrated international legitimacy for their State; but, like all UNGA Resolutions, 181 was a mere “recommendation.”
Since the Arabs flatly rejected Resolution 181, there was no means by which the UN could enforce it.
The next day, Arabs attacked a Jewish bus on the Petah Tikva-Lod road, killing five passengers, & Jewish neighborhoods in and surrounding Jerusalem were attacked.
A Civil War had begun.
May 1948 - Israeli Independence
At 8 a.m. on May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion declared independence for the State of Israel.
Ben-Gurion began by stating:
“Israel was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious and political identity was shaped. Here they first attained statehood, created cultural values of national & universal significance & gave to the world the eternal Book of Books.”
But Ben-Gurion also ended by stating:
“In the midst of wanton aggression, we yet call upon the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve the ways of peace & play their part in the development of the State, on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its bodies and institutions … We extend our hand in peace & neighborliness to all the neighboring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all.
Only hours later, the neighboring Arab countries (#Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, #Iraq, and #Egypt) launched a full scale invasion of the nascent State of Israel.
Sec-Gen Azzam Pasha proclaimed, “This will be a war of extermination & momentous massacre, which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres & the Crusades.”
Pundits filled the airwaves with talk of a second Holocaust considering the Arab states had a population of 200 million with well-equipped armies, & Israel’s entire population was ~600,000 men, women, & children with no formal military training.
Plus, both the United States & Britain maintained an arms embargo on Israel.
However, in what was a true modern-day miracle, the Jews of the reconstituted Jewish State of Israel, a mere three years after the Holocaust & once again facing extermination, fought back the Arab armies to armistices signed in April 1949.

The son of one of the founders of Hamas has blasted the terror group’s student supporters in the United States, accusing them of participating in Hamas’ brutal crimes and declaring they “need to go to a mental asylum.”
Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of Hamas founder Sheikh Hassan Yousef, made the remarks as he appeared on “Dr. Phil Primetime” last week to debate two anti-Israel student activists from the University of Michigan.
“It’s very disappointing to see Americans supporting Hamas and thinking that Hamas is a cool thing, while Hamas does not respect any of those followers,” Yousef said on the April 2 episode.
The Hamas defector said the bloodthirsty terrorists would “torture them and massacre them with no mercy.”
Yousef went on to explain how the militants refer to their American supporters as “useful idiots.”
Yousef, who defected to Israel in 1997 and became a spy for the Shin Bet intelligence agency, insisted that anti-Israel protesters “don’t know what they’re supporting.”
He called Hamas a “monster that has been hijacking an entire society and endangering the entire Middle East, pushing the world toward a global war.”
“What’s happening is insanity,” he continued. “Those pro-Palestine need to go to a mental asylum.”
Yousef said he knew what he was talking about because he spent time in prison with Hamas leaders.
“I was born there and part of that culture, part of that religion,” he explained.
“Some people hear about Hamas or they see an avatar of a Hamas fighter carrying a rifle, a ‘freedom fighter,’ and they think it’s a fancy idea to support such a monster.”
When Yousef then took part in a debate with University of Michigan students Salma and Zaynab, he accused them of wearing keffiyehs — traditional Palestinian scarves — to distract from the fact that they have no legitimacy to speak on behalf of the cause.
“On what authority do you speak?” he asked, rhetorically. “You only speak on the authority of Hamas propaganda.”
Zaynab interjected, asking why he believed she was simply reciting Hamas talking points.
“Because if you were a decent human being, you can say that the thousands who were killed on Oct. 7, that was a crime against humanity. It was a genocide,” Yousef shot back.
He went on to say that the student activists are proving that Hamas wants to completely destroy Israel.
“We have the problem with the pro-Palestine [people] who are actually giving Hamas cover. They are participating in the crime,” he told the young women.
“I think enough is enough, and now it’s proven — and you’re helping Hamas prove it to the world — that Palestine depends on the destruction of the state of Israel,” he continued.
“You cannot even condemn Hamas and say what they did on Oct. 7 was an act of a savage group.
“And this is not acceptable, and we are not going to agree to it. And I tell you something: For the next 10, 20 years, the Palestinian people will pay the bill that Hamas has caused and most likely in blood.”
Even Dr. Phil took aim at the student activists after they refused to say whether they condemned the terrorist attack.
“There are some things that are just fundamental human decency, and when I ask you if what happened on Oct. 7 is something you condemn, and you say, ‘Well, you have to look at that by looking at hundreds of years of conflict.’ No, you don’t,” the TV show host said. “That’s either right or it’s wrong — and I don’t need a hundred years of conflict to know it was wrong,” he said to raucous applause. “Let me tell you something,” Dr. Phil continued, “when someone comes over a fence and goes into someone’s house and burns their infant in its crib, I don’t give a damn why they did it — it’s wrong.”

Summary of Waker Uz Zaman's address to the nation (the Bangladeshi Army's Chief General)
[apologies for any mistakes]
I think the coverage may have missed something at the beginning; it's hard to understand whether the meeting that's referred to has happened or will happen
He starts by saying that there were several other parties present at? A meeting? For example, he names the BNP (the Bangladeshi National Party) and other political parties
Mediators were also present at this meeting
He also said that the students weren't represented at this meeting (?) but that he hopes that students will listen to Dr Asif Nozrul from Dhaka University [this lecturer has been protesting with students every day]
He said that Dr Asif Nozrul gave the students a beautiful message. Waker Uz Zaman is hopeful that the students will now feel peaceful
No one from the Awami League [Sheikh Hasina's party] was present at the meeting
A reporter asked if the meeting will happen today — the response was that the meeting will happen immediately. The meeting will be with the President [Sheikh Hasina was the PM]
Another reporter asked what will happen now? The Chief replied that everyone has responsibility: the army have to restore order and the students and general public have a responsibility to assist the army in restoring order
He also said that the media has a responsibility to spread his words around the world
Another reporter asked if the curfews will remain in place — the Chief replied that if everything is in order, there is no legitimacy for a curfew
The Chief said that he has ordered the army and the police not to fire at anyone
He is also hopeful that things will become peaceful after his speech
A reporter asked what will happen now. The Chief said that it's too early to say anything but that they are working towards a beautiful solution
A reporter asked if someone from the Awami League was present; the Chief said that there were discussions with many, many parties and that everyone was on board with the statements that the Chief is now making to the media
He went on to name some specific people who were at the meeting
He repeated that the students's job is to now become calm
He then ending the press conference and said it was too early to answer a lot of the questions.

Hossam Shabat, Momin Abuowda, and Abood Abo Salama are reporting dozens of bodies strewn across the street of one Jabaliya neighborhood after the IOF’s latest days-long assault. Many of them are either decomposed or burned beyond recognition.
Hossam reports that he and several others went to retrieve the bodies of the Abu Salah family, who were executed point-blank in a UN shelter by the IOF. However, they found that the bodies had not only been moved and dumped in a heap, but also desecrated by the IOF. The IOF also dug up nearby graves for the purpose of desecrating them.
The horror of unburied bodies left to rot in the streets by the IOF has been described by several people on the ground. Ismail Al-Ghoul documented how the IOF razed the Sheikh Shaaban cemetery and left the desecrated bodies exposed. Abood Abo Salama has documented previous instances of bodies being left in the streets as well.
This is not only a moral crisis of desecrating the dead, but a public health crisis as well. Dr. Tamer Al-Najjar has warned that unburied bodies in urban areas can spread extremely dangerous bacteria and other disease vectors. This is worsened by the recent flooding, the accumulation of sewage after the destruction of sewer and water treatment infrastructure, as well as the congregation of rats and other vermin around massive heaps of trash which cannot be removed due to the destruction of waste management infrastructure.
Warning: Momin’s video, the second video of Hossam’s, and Abood’s videos are extremely graphic.

So, after my last Supa Strikas post, I decided to go ahead and make another personal takes. Watched a few more seasons and decided to make this one about the coaches. I will very much be making at least one more of these in the future.
Also, big, BIG shout-out to the Supablr community for the reception. You guys are awesome!
Vince: People simp over him and say he's 'fine AF'. Sorry ladies, but he's a bastard and I have standards when it comes to my men
Toni Vern: He's an irredeemable bastard AP college physics professor preaching to a bunch of frat boys, and then wonders why no one takes him at all seriously. I certainly don't
Inyo: Former Bond villainess/love interest. The only mysterious thing about her is how a British woman can pull off such a flawless American accent
Ura Giri: I imagine this would be Shredder in his late 70's. No matter how evil he is, after one too many encounters with ninja teenage superheroes, anyone remotely younger than you and semi-proficient in martial arts will have you walking on eggshells 24/7
Buddy Watkins: So this is how other countries stereotype America. It's okay guys, you don't have to be nice about it.
Del Aqua: In the same boat (Haha! get it?) as Coach in that he puts up with way too much daily shenanigans from his adopted charges. Is secretly glad his boys are surfers and stay out of the house, cause he is never caffeinated enough to deal with their nonsense otherwise.
Dr. Black: This guy uses billion-dollar NASA equipment to cheat at football games. I'm no rocket scientist but something just isn't adding up about this.
Colonel von Pushup: Acts super done with life but is really just super done with his dumbass kids. Isn't the best at dading coaching which is why he so often resorts to spying on the other dads coaches for ideas. Wishes Uber and Ja Nein would stop all their sexual tension infighting before someone takes notice
Belmont: His kids are perpetually dressed up as zombies, vampires, and werewolves and act the part in public too. Tell me with a straight face he doesn't have a legendary tolerance level that would make Coach jealous.
Golare: His kids are all grown up and independent, but he really, reeaaaaally wants to still be relevant in their lives
Sheikh Ali Zaman: Guys like this are why Americans hate Jeff Bezos
