#Drarry holiday challenge

Hello friends! I, along with my co-mod, timothysboxers, are thrilled to announce that 25 Days of Draco and Harry will run again in 2024. We want to thank navi1088 for creating our banner art. His work can be found at AO3 and tumblr under the same name. For those who may not be familiar with this challenge, we have included the rules at the end of this post, and we strongly encourage you to read these. And for the loyal fans of 25 Days of Harry and Draco: In 2024, we will be doing both Early-bird and Traditional prompts as usual. Again, we're running on LJ, DW and tumblr – the rules will be the same as last year. Because it seemed to work out quite well last year, the Early-bird Prompts will once again be available in October, and we will be including the Image Descriptions along with the prompts. Early bird prompts will be available no later than 13 October 2024, allowing creators over 7 weeks and some change to work on their posts. The signup period will open on 6 October 2024. Also, we will have the Discord server specifically for 25 Days of Draco and Harry participants. Like last year, this will be a place where early bird participants can discuss (in a channel just for them) the prompts and how they might use them. Traditional participants may join the Server at any time, and will also have dedicated channels for their prompts and discussions. The 2024 rules at a glance— Common Guidelines and Notes If you are creating individual works, please select "This Work is Part of a Series" to gather your works together. This will make them much easier to find in future!

If you are creating a multi-chaptered work, please use the "This Work has Multiple Chapters" option to ensure your chapters stay together.

An AO3 collection is available, and you are encouraged to post your works to it. Search for "25 Days of Draco and Harry 2024".

The Early Bird and Traditional Prompt sets are different. We aim to have five or less prompts that appear in both sets.

25 Days of Draco and Harry 2024 - Traditional No changes from prior years. An image prompt is posted starting at midnight US-EST on 1 December, and you create a work based on that prompt and post before the next day's prompt goes up. Each of your posts can be part of a larger work or they can stand alone. 25 Days of Draco and Harry 2024 - Early Bird You receive access to all 25 photo prompts at once when Early Bird access opens. This is a similar timeframe as previous years. The idea is to give participants time to prepare and create something before the insanity of December starts. You will post one work per day for each prompt. This can be a stand-alone story or each day can be a part of a bigger story.

We also encourage individuals or a group to create a podfic of a past 25 Days story, subject to the consent of the author(s). ♥ The advantages are this: 1. you can use the picture prompts in any order you chose 2. you can start creating early and have many of your posts ready to go before December 1st. 3. you get the prompts all at once so you can pre-plan your story and how you will use each prompt.

Detailed Rules The basic rules of 25 Days of Draco and Harry – Traditional Edition: The challenge is to write a drabble, ficlet, story, create an artwork, a comic, etc. for the image posted each day from 1 December to 25 December. Written works for each prompt should be a minimum of 100 words, but there is no maximum. They can be twenty-five one-shots or each one can be a part of a bigger story. Pictures will be posted at midnight EST and you have until the next midnight to complete your work. You may combine this with other communities or tumblr prompts. Your work does not have to be a story of the picture – you can use any part of the picture, or take inspiration from what that picture says to you. Traditional Prompts must be used in their posted order. If you fall behind, you can post more than once a day to get caught up. You're also welcome to post as life allows, meaning you don't have to worry about being on time. You can also combine a few days or prompts into one work, but the true challenge is to post every day for 25 days within the 24-hour time frame. You do not need to sign-up for the Traditional edition, the prompts will be made available beginning 1 December at midnight EST. Early-bird Edition: After signups close you will be given access to the 25 picture prompts no later than Sunday, 13 October.

You may use these prompts in any order you choose – but each prompt may only be used once.

The challenge remains to post a daily work from 1 to 25 December using one of the provided prompts. Each should be posted between 12 midnight (EST) and 11:59 PM (EST) the next night.

For written works, the minimum word count is 100 words per prompt.

Advice/Ask Boundaries:

Advice about sex (how-to, positions, etc)

Personal topics like my own intimate life, my own personal information (IRL name, names of family members, etc)

Topics that I am not educated on, or do not have a right to give my opinion on. While I am happy to talk and give advice about LGBTQIA+ issues, I am uncomfortable sharing my opinion on issues that I am still working to learn about, because I don't want to spread false information or be unintentionally hurtful. Also, since I hold a lot of privilege, there are certain topics that I would rather amplify the voices of others about, rather than taking up my own space.

Writing Tips:

Write a lot.

Don't worry about mistakes or editing. Just write a lot to get your ideas out. Practice makes better, and writing a lot will help you gain confidence. You don't have to post it anywhere of you don't want to!

2. Try microfics!

Microfics are a great way to practice writing certain ships, or just practice in general. They're also lovely for getting a feel of posting! They're low-pressure and low-commitment, which is lovely!

3. Find people to write with.

Whether it's people online or in person, find people to talk about writing and write with. It's very motivating and helps hold you accountable.

4. Be gentle with yourself!

This is supposed to be fun. Don't beat yourself up or be too hard on yourself.

5. Write down your ideas.

Ideas come at weird times. Write them down, because you'll forget them.

Insta Drarry Fic Rec: A Year In the Life by Anon

Wow oh Wow! The next time someone asks for a Warm, Soft, Cozy, Drarry fic that also covers some deep topics, this should be at the top of your list. It come courtesy of @hd-fan-fair (Career_fair 2023). Here's the Summary:

Draco Malfoy's life mightn't be the one he imagined growing up, but that doesn't matter, because Draco enjoys it nevertheless. He works at Flourish and Blotts, enjoys playing for the Islington Imps, his part-time Quidditch team, and spends his Sundays at St Neots, the home of his Mum, 'Dromeda, and Teddy. Best of all is Harry Potter, his beloved boyfriend, with whom Draco enjoys dancing, shagging, and watching Eastenders on Harry's big Muggle television. Life couldn't get any better. Life, however, has a tendency to change whenever you least expect it to.

What makes this fic so unique and special is the challenge the author put on themselves. To have Draco write daily in his Diary for a whole year. The author is a master at microfics so each daily entry is exactly 50 words long. Stunning and Amazing. I said in my comment on the fic: BRAVO!

Each month is a separate chapter. Each daily entry is a gem in itself and we have 365 days of delicious spoonfuls of Draco's life from the mundane of cleaning and sorting books at his job to the excitement of his relationship with Harry. You can feel the continuity of life with the expected events like visiting his mother once a week, visiting Lucius once a month, celebrating the pagan holidays, etc... and then some days life throws a curve-ball and adjustments must be made.

I will say that I was at first daunted by the idea of reading 365 entries until I finished January. OMG it went so fast and before I knew it the month was June. December came even faster.

Lining up guests for Happy Hour brings me lots of joy. It's like going on a vacation - half the fun is planning the trip and anticipating. Here in the library, half the fun is building friendships and getting excited for what fics they're going to recommend! When I was planning the December spot, I knew it HAD to be @babooshkart. I fell in love with their Holiday art series last year, and knew that they were the perfect person to give us a Holiday Happy Hour this year! She didn't disappoint - and managed to give me the gift of a Christmas fic I hadn't yet read!

More gifts are in store, so please without further ado, enjoy the gift of @babooshkart in the library!

I’ve been a mildly worshipful fan of the Library (and its Librarian) for a while, so it was such an honor to be asked to host this month’s Happy Hour! Especially as it was my opportunity to do a Christmas rec, which meant rereading a lot of holiday fics, which has put me in the most delightfully Christmassy mood—wins all around. Our lovely Librarian is an expert planner, so thanks to their schedule I’ve had the last six months to peruse all of their previous Holiday Lists (see end of this post for links!). The Librarian is thorough—it was a challenge to find one that hasn’t already been recc’d; I really wanted to shine the spotlight on a fic that brought me a lot of joy during the last Christmas season, so please join me in cuddling up under a blanket with some (spiked?) cocoa and this gorgeous story.

A Melody of You & Me by @academicdisaster (64,838 words, rated E)

Draco Malfoy has a Christmas choir competition to win, and Harry Potter has an orphanage that needs funding. When Luna Lovegood intervenes, they agree to help each other out: Harry will join the choir if Draco chooses to sponsor his charity.

But agreeing to work together also means getting to know each other again - in new and unexpected ways.

Ft. a chaotic festive choir, scheming friends, a healthy dose of mental health issues, one very irritating ex, and boys learning how to love and be loved.

This fic was written for 25 Days of Harry and Draco 2021, and I was lucky enough to get to witness it coming into existence. Rooney is a lovely person and an extremely gifted storyteller—I first fell in love with his writing with Sourdough (romance novelist Draco!!!! baking Harry!!! what more could you possibly ask for!!), and have been entranced ever since. His fics are a masterclass in soft intimacy (my favorite!!!) and every single one leaves me aching with feelings in the best way possible.

With A Melody, Rooney drops us into the middle of a busy holiday season—Healer Draco (another favorite thing!!! can we see a pattern here?) is scrambling to pull together a charity choir after his cheating ex boyfriend steals half his singers for a rival group. Across the city, Harry Potter is running out of energy, time, and money for the Hedwig Centre (Grimmauld Place transformed into a home for traumatized magical children), and needs sponsors a home of his own, therapy, to get laid fast. Enter Draco’s BFF/BAMF Lavender Brown and the ever-delightful Luna Lovegood, and everyone’s problems might just get solved in the best way possible.

This fic is everything I could ever want out of a Drarry holiday story. I always love it when Harry and Draco have careers that let them care for people, and Rooney has gone above and beyond by creating a whole cast of original characters that are extraordinarily lovable—from the children that Harry works with at the Hedwig Centre, to Frieda and Lennox the German choir singers with their special brownies and drunken carols, to one of Draco’s favorite patients—Anita, a firecracker of a little old lady who is arguably too interested in Draco’s sex life. Rooney has built up a gorgeous framework of interlocking relationships, in a way that can only make you feel surrounded and held and part of a little found family while you read, and I will never not be in love with that.

This fic also deals with Harry’s unresolved trauma in a way that feels tender and intentional, which is something that I always yearn for and boy howdy has Rooney delivered. We get to watch as Draco notices and cares for Harry through a panic attack, as Harry learns how to accept (and ask for) support, and as their friends and family ensconce them in love. Too often, I feel like fics skim over the fact that Harry has lost his entire family and also died, but Rooney held all of this in his talented hands and worked through it, piece by piece. Especially for a fic that is set during the holiday season, which can already be full of strife, Rooney has created a strong and caring network of people to hold Harry and Draco while they venture into their new relationship. I love to feel feelings.

I could talk forever about this fic, but I will leave you all with "please go read this and then come and yell about it with me." HP Rec Fest, Day 19

@hprecfest couldn’t come up with a better prompt on my birthday if they wanted 😂 my moment to be the horny on main has finally come (pun intended) and I had so much fun planning this rec post - it’s been a long time coming too, as naturally this was the very first prompt I checked when the fest started! You can probably guess just by looking at this rec list that I’m a big smut fan and champion. I love reading it, talking about it and reccing it. The fics I reread the most are PWPs and I’m even more obsessed when they offer hot dirty talk (am actually picky about it!) and exceptional character development. In fact, some of the most insightful, sensitive and sophisticated character studies I’ve seen come from deeply underrated smutty fics and I’ll die on this hill!

Today I’m breaking my own rule of only reccing two fics and avoiding stories I’ve recced before because a) this is too good an opportunity to scream about my faves again b) it’s my birthday and I can do whatever I want 😌 the Drarry rec was actually bit more challenging as my usual smutty favorites involve rare pairs. I’ve been working hard to highlight lesser known fics but this time I’m staying true to the request - which of course it’s completely subjective - and chose my favourite even if it’s a widely known and popular fic. I considered going for a hidden gem but it was no use, I just had to celebrate this epic classic and stay true to my heart! when it comes to ust and smut imo this is hands down the hottest thing I’ve ever read. there are so many iconic and breathtaking sex scenes it’s impossible to pick just one; I’ve reread most of them more times than I care to admit and they all have carved their way inside my brain. I love how desperately wanton Harry and Draco are for each other in this fic! I keep replaying every dirty word, every slutty kiss, every chaotic and intense af sexual encounter they have over the course of this superb and deliciously long case fic/secret relationship series. at this point everyone and their dog has heard of, and read, this series but if you haven’t yet you’re in for a treat! block your schedule this holiday season and go grab some popcorn for this brilliant masterclass in writing, flangst and smut - so much top notch smut to feast on you’ll want to live in this universe forever. you’re welcome!

I double dare you to find anything hotter than this fic and believe me, I’ve read TONS of smut across many ships and fandoms. Am I biased due to my particular fondness for age gap and sharing/cuckolding kink? Maybe so 🌝 but I promise you this is unlike any other smut you’ve read before - it’s not only smoking hot with the kind of self-indulgent, relentless athletic sex that leaves you sweating (and horny), it’s also pov multiple written in the first person and how brilliant is that??? birds sells herself short in the AN saying this is just 30k of pure unadulterated porn but I’d argue this is actually a masterpiece, an extremely clever, nuanced and perfectly executed character study, mainly of Scorpius. Harry & Draco are 100% connected throughout the whole fic and the bits of playful teasing, desperate affection and tender aftercare in-between fucks made me swoon! this is a must read for anyone who loves to see Draco getting some diq and loving it, but also to my fellow Dron fans out there! their smutty times are deliciously hot and so funny too, with a lovable horny Ron being egged on by the devils. “Oi! Draco! Hurry up, or the good ones will be gone!”

“I don’t understand why we have to do this,” huffed Draco, stomping down the stairs. “This is just so...”

“Muggle?” said Harry.

Draco sighed, “Yes.”

“Please, Draco. I’ve never had a real muggle Christmas before.”

“And why must we start now?”

“Humor me, Draco. Growing up, the Dursley’s made Christmas anything but jolly. Yes, Christmases at Hogwarts were wonderful, but it’s not the same when it’s yours. Your home. Your family. I never had any of that until you.”

Draco blushed. “You’ve always had family, Harry. The Weasleys. Granger.”

Harry grabbed his old Gryffindor scarf, wrapping it around Draco’s neck. “Of course they are. But this is different.”

“I know.” He kissed Harry’s scar. “As sweet as the sentiment is, I still don’t understand why we have to go to a muggle...what was it? Tree farm? We can conjure a tree. The perfect tree.”

“Draco…” Harry gave him a knowing smile.

“I hate the cold. This sounds miserable.”

Harry laughed. “If I have to wear a suit to your parent’s Christmas party, you can manage an hour in the snow.”

“An hour?!”

“Oh, stuff it, Malfoy. Leave your wand and get in the car.”

“You’re lucky I find it endearing, or you’d really be fucking up my first muggle Christmas,” clipped Harry.

Draco’s features softened. “I’m sorry. I’ll try to be more...jolly.”

Draco snorted. “But...a car?”

“How do you think we’d get the tree back?”

“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe a quick Reducio and Apparate directly into our warm and cozy bungalow?”

“You knew full well when you married me.”

Harry rolled his eyes. “I love you too. Right, here we are!”

Draco gawked at the sign. “Peter Pine’s Pine Plantation? You’re joking.”

Harry parked the car, and they stepped out, Draco shivering violently. 

Harry opened the trunk, pulling out an axe. He rested it on his shoulder and turned toward a gaping Draco.

“What?”

“But they have...you know what? Never mind. Fuck, it’s cold. Let’s get this over with.”
