Now that Donald Trump has directed Elon Musk and DOGE to look into the Department of Defense, we HAVE TO look into this
The Department of Defense is providing school lunches in America. Just imagine the secret deals going on with this….
“I thought DOD stood for something else, but you're saying it's definitely Department of Defense providing the school lunches?”
“Yeah”
“Who mandates this? The state and the federal government?”
“Yeah.”
—“Mandate who you buy food from?”
“Yeah”
“They'll give us hundreds of thousands of dollars, but we can only spend it in their channels. — There there specific companies that you're allowed to buy through
We purchase through DOD. They have their own ordering guide, and we purchased through them. But they they work out the contracts throughout the General Mills, etc”
“Sucks for you guys and it sucks for us and it sucks for the kids. And in the same respect, if the Department of Defense is supplying the food and they are the ones who are negotiating these contracts with these mega corporations like, you know, General Mills and Yeah. Nestle, all of these.
Right. Then they are incentivized to get the lowest quality at the highest, you know, price. So so then the more processed, the better for them. So, again, it seems like the only options you guys have are the things that are predetermined anyway, and so your options are limited.”
You have to watch this whole video, this is CRAZY.
Why is the DoD providing school lunch contracts in America?
EXCELLENT question… We need Elon Musk, DOGE and RFK Jr. to dig into this fiasco. 🤔

Groovy Tech
The one thing I can say on this recoloring job is the new title card is more proper. "Groovy Tech" should not be a uniform drab green.
Veronica sits there in the first panel. Her red swimsuit fixed in post.
This story was included in the 1980 "Best of Archie" collection, at one time seemed a seminal story for the company. The mind boggles.

I hate the way the school/academic system makes me feel so worthless when I’m taking a day off for just resting. As if, unless I study hard 24/7, I’m a failure. As a sophomore student at uni, I feel exhausted every day, both physically and mentally, from simply going to classes and trying to keep focus on what’s going on. If I wanted to “achieve my goals” and be more organised, I should have studied every day, or at least every weekend. But I already feel so burnt out and 1st semester hasn’t even ended yet. But even on the weekends, when I get to have some rest, I feel like shit because I constantly tell myself I’m not doing enough for my future :///
I hate school and I hate uni for making us feel worthless for just resting and prioritizing our mental, physical and emotional health at times.

People like to make fun of YA worldbuilding tropes that sort teenagers into arbitrary categories based on arbitrary characteristics that nonetheless have a huge impact on the teenager's future.
This is not unrealistic however, because the german education system sorts 4th graders based on their "academic merit" as determinded by one of their elementary school teachers into one of three (sometimes four) further type of schools, which has a drastic impact on the likelihood of you even getting the qualification to attend university.
Yes, your entire academic career path is dependent on whether your elementary school teacher likes you or not. Don't worry, some states think that's bullshit too and instead make fourth graders sit entrance exams for the education level of their (parents') choice. (Although the teachers still get a say). That's why sometimes have news articles about the burn out rates of elementary schoolchildren in Bavaria.
But don't worry! Politicians love to complain about... to many people in recent years receiving the qualification to attend university...
#but don't worry! of course there's educational class mobility!#if your grades are good enough you too can give up your entire social life to attend a different school form#where a good chunk of the teacher's are convinced that your presence in their classroom is an indicator of the descent of the country#this works in both directions too! if your grades are bad enough the school can always send you to a different form#this is totally not discrimination because this is all to support the child's individual learning needs in an environment fit for them#<- unironic official reasoning for why this system still exists#some parties have adressed the inherent discrimination and added a fourth school form in some states to mix things up#(after a former fourth form was abolished - i think nationwide?)#or i guess you go to private school#secret fifth option#germany#just german things#educational system#ya#worldbuilding#politics#i love every time the question on why so few people from working class families attend university in germany crops up at uni#everyone answers financial feasability despite numerous opportunities for financial aid#and overlooks *because you filter their asses out in elementary school*

what annoys me about explaining evolution to people who don’t think it’s real is that everyone’s idea of how it works seems to be from this

Whereas the reality is far more like

#“Evolution of man” image you are a linear path of one branch not a whole ass family tree#Someone straight up asked me if people came from monkeys why do e still have monkeys#Like bruh no hate the education system failed you BUT#If you came from your grandma then why do you still have cousins#That’s what you’re asking#Edited cause I wrote billion instead of million lol

Is the use of AI by students showcasing a bigger fault in the educational system?
The educational system is a competition. You win or you fail. There are margins of how large you've failed or won. Depending on the field and country, those margins of "winning" can mean being allowed to further your education, or being rejected.
Do not inflate this with the purpose of education. Education should be to further your knowledge and become that much more actualized. It's about finding the missing puzzle pieces to questions you never got the answers to. It's realizing a colour has different shades when you've been calling all its variances "red." It's knowing what a tree is, but then taking the time to uncover its roots, what they do and how far they go. Education can be hard, it isn't always linear, you won't always get it—but at its core it is there to expand your perception of the world.
Yet in my experience, I've felt this purpose gets lost. The main priority of the system has become to "win" at it. Or now, to just get to the finish line as quickly as possible.
I bring this up because I think we're putting all the pressure on students and not acknowledging the system.
I'll say first that does not absolve students who've used ChatGPT for a majority of their works. If it's writing all your essays, all your equations, doing all your critical thinking—that is a choice you did make. And for those who gloat about it (especially online) what happened to discretion? It baffles me that they do not fear scholastic consequences. It seems fitting to be shocked by some students pride in it as well, but that's the thing that doesn't shock me. I think for some, they see it as beating a system that did not serve them, if not one they suffered through.
Education is a competition. Educational systems—in my experience—tend not to care how much pressure they put on you to complete said education. Or did we all forget about the "I hope I get hit by a bus" 'jokes' many students related to because of the stress they felt.
I can't speak for every student ever, but I know my post secondary education was incredibly flawed. My last year, so many of my peers and I were genuinely unwell. We were all trying so visibly hard to keep afloat, yet nothing was done about it, even when we vocalized our struggles. It felt like no one cared to. As if when you sign up for higher education, you're willingly signing up to be unwell for a good four years at minimum. I return to my point of education isn't here to be easy: I know what it's like to be given a coding assignment so frustrating. You've thought through all the solutions using the tools you've been taught and are still getting nowhere—
until you do.
In the end, it's exhilarating to know you figured something out even after some frustration. You did your best and it paid off. But the difference is that a lot of education doesn't care if they've given you the tools to succeed, yet they expect the results. To be frank, it isn't that many think they can't do it and give up, it's more "Do I have the time?" "Do I have the energy?" "I'm so afraid of failure, I can't risk it."
I'm just a person on the internet, so my words are not gospel, just from personal experience, but I don't think students inherently dislike learning. I think ironically they've just been sold the idea that education isn't about their improvement. Perhaps it's for your status, perhaps it is just so you can get a job, perhaps we all understand higher levels of education is really just us buying into a business. As my mother says, "You're buying yourself a piece of paper."
It's such a pessimistic view of looking at education yet the system built itself this way.
I think if we really care about students, we should really be asking them why they feel the need to use ChatGPT/AI that much. I do not believe they're all lazy like we're acting. I think this is a symptom of a larger problem many don't bring up in regard to education.
Students have become a reflection of the system. If the system can't be bothered to improve itself, simply acting in its own self interest, why wouldn't students?
(P.S.: I know the system has many factors running against itself and it isn't a simple fix. I'm not blaming just one person or thing, but I think this is a perfect time to analyze the educational system rather than just blaming students. Because that's too simple of an excuse for such a larger issue.)

Schooled, Not Educated. By-product of a Broken System 🚨
Ever met someone who’s a walking, talking footnote from a government-funded textbook? I recently had a conversation with one — a dear friend, a product of the broken educational conveyor belt — and it felt like debating a robot programmed to say: “If it’s not peer-reviewed, it doesn’t exist.” Here’s the problem:Our education system isn’t broken because it fails to teach — it’s broken because it…
