Breaking the Cycle of Abuse: Understanding and Preventing the Cycle
Breaking the Cycle of Abuse: Understanding and Preventing the Cycle. The cycle of abuse is a devastating pattern that perpetuates harmful behaviors across generations. It involves a recurring cycle of abuse where individuals who have experienced abuse as children may become abusers themselves as adults. In this blog post, we will delve into the concept of the cycle of abuse, its effects, and…

I think it indicates a fundamental lack of comprehension skills (and empathy) to characterize Kaidan Alenko, whose backstory is "I was kidnapped by the military and taken to an isolated space station so they could experiment on me without pesky oversight from the Space UN and survived profound physical and emotional abuse at the hands of the adult in whose care I was placed." as whiny or fucking boring, lmao. He's constantly downplaying the trauma he went through at BAaT, even going so far as to stop himself mid-stream to redirect and remind Shepard that he didn't have it that bad.  It takes three whole conversations for him to tell the entire story because the minute he starts getting into the details of what happened to him there he shuts himself down and apologizes for bothering Shepard and wasting their time!!

Question for Mikey:
You didn't grow up with your brothers, but you've observed some different versions of them in other timelines, right? By the time you pulled your current brothers from their timelines, did it feel like you already knew them pretty well? Is there any disconnect without shared experiences?

Pop culture image of Jane Eyre: This is a passionate, problematic love story about a woman falling in love with a guy who locked his wife in the attic.
Actual Jane Eyre: This is the story of a woman recovering from a childhood of horrific abuse.

RADIOSTATIC BAD END ROUTE
In these endings, it's more or less assumed Alastor has gotten out of his deal (if the route doesn't involve his owner)
One of the few routes that Alastor is the one to give himself up. While most (if not all) other routes just have Alastor "giving in" to the suitor of the route after they make him "snap" somehow, Alastor walks up to Vox and makes a deal.
A deal that would have Alastor in one of his worst personal Hell's.
Vox was the only one to have ever fooled Alastor about not being interested in him (romantically or sexually). When Vox came into his life, it was like Alastor had finally gained a full, no ulterior motives, platonic relationship. This did not last however as Vox had shown his true form which lead to Alastor's unease and avoidance of him. But Alastor is tired. He just wants a friend, a friend not looking for anything else from him. At this point, he could not CARE if it was fake. As long as he could pretend, even if for a few measly hours, he'd take it. That was always the lure with Vox. He was the only one in Hell that seemed to be able to fake not having an obsession with Alastor, to a frightening degree. In this route, Alastor gives into this luring and makes a deal for Vox to once again pretend to only be friends with him. In exchange, Vox could do whatever he liked to Alastor when not pretending to be his friend. Unfortunately, the deal was made while Alastor was not exactly clear-headed. While sure in his choice to give himself to Vox, he needed something (a lot of something) to bolster himself to actual walk up to the TV Overlord. As a result, the deal was not made with the usual expertise that Alastor would have with his deals.
Vox for the first few months thrived. He kept Alastor in what was practically a cell, restrained in a relatively empty room. The only source of entertainment is Alastor himself and Vox. Due to the unspecified agreement of when Vox would act only as a friend to Alastor, those moments were far rarer than Alastor preferred. Instead, he was met with unwanted touches, belittlement, an uncomfortable amount of compliments, hitting, healing, pretty much anything without consistency. Anytime Vox DID act like he was a friend, Alastor embarrassingly ate it up despite knowing it wasn't real, despite feeling how much more taunting it was than warm.
Then, Vox came up with an agreement. Vox would be Alastor's best friend every weekend. It felt so heavenly just to THINK about that idea for Alastor, who hasn't been able to have anything but suitors after him for all his time in Hell. Alastor CRAVED friendship at this point, even a simple acquaintanceship would do just as nicely. As for the rest of the week, however, Alastor would be Vox's everything. His lover, his pet, his toy, his anything. All he had to do was wait for the weekend. Alastor didn't even need to think to agree to the proposal.
So Alastor was moved away with his "akin to a dungeon basement", and into a mock-up of a room Alastor would enjoy to be in. It was less modern and more roaring 20s to early 30s in style. Somewhere in the V-tower Alastor was sure, perhaps at the very top considering Vox allowed him to even continue his broadcasting! The clocks were the most modern thing in Alastor's suite. Completely digital. He thrived on the weekends. Vox gave no hint of wanting anything more out of Alastor other than companionship. They talked, drank, laughed, they even went out on the town to get dinners or look for some sad sap to star in Alastor's show. Alastor never left his room without Vox. So he was often left waiting for him if he wanted to do anything outside of his room. There was nothing stopping Alastor from going out on his own. No order, not even a silent order or anything. What was the point of going out if the whole point of putting himself in this situation was to escape from the obsessions of others?
Weekdays were Hell on Earth. Or Hell in Hell. Vox didn't hold his obsession back and had Alastor practically glued to his arm. The whiplash of sweet and soft moments to harsh belittlement made Alastor's head spin. Sometimes Vox wanted to deliberately hurt and scar Alastor, sometimes he just wanted Alastor to lay in bed with him and pet Vox's head and nothing more, sometimes Vox assaulted him. Sometimes he'd bark at Alastor to like it ("Pretend you do like I do as your friend"), sometimes Vox gives no indication for Alastor to need to pretend. Vox gets possessive, but sometimes he doesn't mind sharing Alastor, particularly with Valentino. Sometimes Vox shares Alastor with more people, but only when Alastor is being bad. A rare occurrence. Sometimes he wants to treat Alastor like garbage, leashed to his desk, and forced onto the floor. Sometimes he just wants to spoil Alastor with things he likes. Alastor doesn't like it when Vox spoils him with things Vox tells Alastor to like. He even has his own special room he locks Alastor in sometimes. He doesn't like the room because of how downright creepy if feels. The dolls, the plushies, the pictures, anything everywhere was of Alastor himself. In that room, Alastor looks like just another one of Vox's paraphernalia. Most of anything under the sun, good or bad, Vox does during the week.
Alastor's precious pocket watch was broken by Vox upon first acquiring Alastor. Something he couldn't care much about considering he was committing his life to a windowless, timeless room for the rest of his life. But when they had made the agreement, he only had the digital clocks.
Alastor always counts down the minutes until the weekend and shakes counting down the seconds to the week.
And if you'd like a possible glimpse into the everyday life of this route, you can check out this fic here. Please be wary of the dark themes as done here.

To like comics is to ignore comics.
When your favorite character has existed for 80+ years, has had 100s of writers, has changed over and over again, sometimes they got it wrong. You have to decide what to ignore for your own sanity.

Content warning (light) : Experiments / Abuse / Body and eye horror tw(?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The album cover is sick as hell, I initially thought it was skeletal parts, but it looks the most like an MRI scan showing a brain with a lot of abnormalities, including signs of head trauma.
The most profound detail I found in the "brain" is the dark spots.
Tumblr media
Dark spots in the brain are usually the result of a brain lesion, a permanently damaged area of the brain usually caused by injury, infections, exposure to certain chemicals, etc. General trauma.
If it's someone's brain, I suspect it's Till's brain. aside from Luka, he has been through the worst of the Alien's mistreatment since he was a child, under Urak's (the bastard's) care he had been exposed to much abuse. The sheer harshness and hostility of Urak's "training" make it obvious why he was probably one of the only pets to withstand it all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Life-long injury in some form is surely a given to me. Seeing as it's already been mentioned that because of Urak's abuse, his pets rarely make it to the end because of the mental issues they had developed, and experiments can kill them before they even make it to the stage.
Tumblr media
Back to the brain, it has a lot of abnormalities (especially in its appearance). I can't explain much, I'm not a neurologist. But based on the research I did the the most damage seems to be near the Frontal lobe and the Precentral gyrus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
source source source
This could explain Till's already implied mental problems, one of them (In my opinion) being some form of dissociation, round 6 was the most telling as his behavior was out of sorts having been broken down he changed drastically, throughout the whole round he was emotionally distant, i'd probably describe it as him being in a daze.
And his hallucination of Mizi during the karaoke scene could be a symptom of that to ease out of the moment.
(I also see that as more of a coping mechanism for Till, but I'm taking it into account for this since it's likely.)
Tumblr media
Experiments always looked intense, I wonder just what chemicals and substances he was exposed to, in one of the opening scenes of CURE we're shown what looks to be DNA splitting, or duplicating? there could be a multitude of reasons for that. But it makes me curious just how deep this goes, and how much it affected Till. There is a lot of things about him that could be explained with Urak's presence in his life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Having his brain tampered with to such a degree, I think we'll start to see the horrific effects come to light here soon.

"maybe you wouldnt have to fix things if you didnt keep messing it up" and ratting korra out to raiko and being dismissive of her and LYING to her about their breakup after he kissed asami. korra was dealing with her uncle grooming her and colonizing her home. and he treats her like this when shes confused and upset like idk. idk

Haters have made these parallels between Willow and Belos. Okay, they're valid.
but we'll see what the difference is. Well, yes, Willow is an authority to Hunter, as is the Emperor, but Willow is an authority to him because she has his respect and he recognizes her as his equal. Belos is an authority because Hunter is afraid of not pleasing him and getting hurt for it, Hunter blindly believes that the Emperor is right about everything, he is used to serving him, he doesn't know any other life. The Emperor in Hollow Mind drags Hunter underground to show him where he belongs and that it is in the lowest depths, he deserves to be where Phil pulled him from 16 years ago. he deserves only to be forgotten, like the past GG, Hunter deserves to be buried in Belos mind, as a mistake, as a traitor, as a fake person, who will never take place as an independent, individual person, like another clone of Belos's brother who couldn't handle his missions.
Willow, on the other hand, drags him underground to prove to him that he's wrong about her team and that he shouldn't give up so easily, thinking he's just an the half-witch. and she succeeds, it has a positive effect on Hunter in the end. he gains, not loses. on the contrary, she elevates him, making him an inspiration to others, helping him to open up, not burying him like Belos. Flyer Derby connected them and thanks to Willow first and foremost it became an integral part of Hunter's life. she is – his Captain the one who didn't let him give up and quit because of his judgment of her team not knowing what they was like without giving them a chance to prove themselves to him. she saw what he was capable of and admired and wanted others to admire Hunter's skills too. She didn't want him to give up and leave . When he called himself a half witch, Willow saw her situation in him, which means he's going to bury his potential and stay in the shadows. But Willow has been through this, and she doesn't want Hunter to lose his opportunity, his place in the sun. She saw that he was able to show a master class and it would be sad and stupid to just hide his talent because he acts impulsively and is actually insecure enough to open up to others to show his shine. This is a situation that Willow has been through and she decides to take matters into her own hands because if not her, then no one. She needs him, she wants to try to open his Eyes and help him, and she has directed this in the right direction. He is – the one who gave them the name Emerald Entrails he is her best flyer and an inspiration to others. Plus, his faith is shaken a bit at the end of "Any Sport In A storm" he begins to slowly realize that the Emperor is teaching him the wrong things. it's bad to keep friends locked up and forcing them to do things they don't want to do, by force, in order to gain respect in a way that Hunter needs and cares about. He stands up for them in the end, doing the right thing and beginning to understand what friendship is and how important it is

I see so so many videos and comments and discussion from people including artists expressing grievance and cringing in one way or another at modern and performance art, and all I can think is damn. That sort of art is really goddamn effective when it gets this much publicity and attention from people trying to cope because it gets under their skin so easily and not realizing the irony
At this point there's no modern or performance art I don't respect (other than ones that cause harm to animals 😐) just for being able to so effortlessly get reactions out of people. Like the "who's afraid of yellow, red and blue" paintings that to most people look like solid boring colors, 'how in the world is that art?' and all that, and yet, fittingly for its name, it gets vandalized (and is also impossible to restore because no one can replicate the intricate technique of the author). Some things never change. Godspeed modern and performance artists
