fellow campers, i'm glad to announce that the jwct countdown is happening this month!!!

the countdown will take place from may 10th to may 24th, with two-day-long prompts about the show. you can submit fanart, gifsets, fics, moodboards, metas, pretty much anything!

How to submit a prompt!

I got a few questions from different people about how submissions worked, so I figured I'd make a post about it! TL;DR is in blue

Click here to go straight to submissions! Or use the Submit a Post button at the top of the blog! (Tumblr article on how to submit posts)

Note: Submissions do not notify the submitter when they have been posted. I always tag submissions with the URL of whoever submitted them so you can search my blog to find your submission later. But if you want some other notification e.g. if you want to be notified or have your name IN the body of the post, feel free to add "submitted by @ Username" to the bottom of the post! I don't mind.

Rules and recommendations:

Don't submit AI Art! Just don't.

Don't submit text-only prompts with no people/characters pictured! A text conversation or message board convo between people without at least profile pictures next to the messages has no place to insert a character as an art prompt!

Don't include multiple pictures in one submission (unless it's a comic-type prompt with multiple panels) Y'all know I have a rigorous tagging system, and it's easier to tag/categorize one prompt per post. If you have a whole bunch of prompts, just submit them individually one at a time. Don't worry about flooding my inbox, I promise it's fine.

Don't Submit a post with the Ask button. Submissions are for prompts, Asks are for questions and comments!

Don't submit a drawing made by somebody else! Unless you know their username and have express permission to repost their art with credit, I won't repost a drawing made by somebody else. This doesn't generally apply to things like public domain art, super old paintings (like European Renaissance-era), and screenshots of animations and movies (Unless it's an indie animation in which case I want to provide a link to it! In this house we love and support indie projects!!)

You are welcome to @ me in a post you think would make a good prompt! This is a valid way to submit a prompt! ESPECIALLY if you draw a prompt yourself!! Same as submission rules, I just ask that you tag me on posts consisting of 1 individual prompt and not just a big mass of like 10+ different prompts posted by one person. For the sake of easier blog navigability, I don't wanna rb posts that are 5 kilometers long.

If the prompt is from a show/movie or something, feel free to add the source if you know it! It's just nice to have in case anyone is curious.

We're here to host all the silly and crazy names you might find while playing any of the splatoon games! Please look below for how-tos, rules, and faqs!

How this blog works:

We are a submission based blog. Which means in order to send in your names we ask that you use the submission page (linked for convenience). PLEASE USE THE SUBMISSION PAGE! I cannot stress this enough. We will take submissions in the form of asks but the submission page makes everything SO MUCH SMOOTHER. You can even add in the tags for us!

Additional note, I have seen some trouble regarding people using links to add images to the post rather than uploading the image directly, and unfortunately if I cannot see the picture I cannot add it to the queue.

Rules:

We take submissions via images AND text, but if you are submitting a name via text PLEASE BE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT THE NAME IS. The stories behind the names are fun, but sometimes I don't know what the actual name is supposed to be and it gets rather confusing.

Please do not submit any names that contain slurs in any capacity. If we're aware it's a slur it will be deleted.

Names that contain dirty words are okay, but please check the "nsfw text" tag on the submission page if you send it in.

More often than not we will take names down upon request if it belongs to you or if it’s highly insensitive. Please keep your inquiry civil however.

If you see a name you don’t like please do not harass the submitter of the name, as they may be unaware of what it means.

Keep in mind that if we get a lot of posts, it might take up to a week for your post to show up.

On that note if you would like to inquire if your submission came through you’re allowed to do so, however we ask that you either do it off of anon so we can look for your name or tell us what the name was so we can check.

If you have questions or concerns please do so off anon so we can answer privately if need be.

FAQ

Is it okay if I submit a name that might have been posted?

Yup! We have no issues posting repeats as long as they’re spaced out enough. If you submit them close to each other however we will either queue it later or delete it, sorry!

That name has over 10 characters, that person couldn’t have seen it.

Or they could be rewording how they saw it, or translating it, or maybe they didn’t and it just doesn’t matter. This blog is for fun and to have a good laugh, not a contest.

Are there any other kinds of names you won't accept?

Some jokes can get old fast (at one point we had like 50 submissions that said 'daddy') in which case I will probably stop adding them to the queue. Otherwise I'm down for anything, even jokes I may not understand.

How active is this blog? Wasn't it dead for a while?

Yeah it's pretty much just based on the mood of the mods. If the blog ends up going radio silent again, sorry! But none of us are obligated to maintain it and can easily have more important things to worry about.

Will you still take submissions from splatoon 1 and 2?

Sure! If you have them we'll take them.

Welcome to Whumpuary 2024!

Whumpuary is a whump themed mixed-media creation event/challenge taking place in January.

This year the prompts came together through a community submission form and then a poll, where I picked the 53 most voted prompts! There are 15 numbers with 3 prompts each, plus 8 alt prompts. The dates are just meant to be a general guideline for those who want/need some structure in a challenge (e.g post every other day), but you don't actually have to create/post on those dates. You can combine prompts any way you want or just pick one of each number, do every single one or even all of them combined into one big creation (or just use one single prompt. That's already an achievement!) If you don't like any prompts of a number you can also replace or combine them with an alt prompt. The main or alt prompts don't have to be done in order.

WWC Askbox: Soft Re-Opening

In light of the recent attention WWC has received by the writeblr community, and the reception to our Guide to Academic Research—the mods have decided that we will temporarily reopen to your questions and test some important changes to the site! As you may have noticed, we've taken a much-needed break to catch up on our personal lives and restore our inspiration to answer the hundreds of Q&A that we receive. 

Once the submission window is up on Nov 30, we will evaluate how our new system is going, tinker some more, and reopen once again once the construction dust clears.

We are pleased to announce our new and improved Masterpost, which we hope will be a more centralized, more informative resource for those new and returning to WWC.

What is Jon/Elias week?

It’s a week long prompt event. Each day there will be two different prompts you can choose from. You can create art, fic, playlists, moodboards, or any other content you'd like. You can participate in all the days or just one.

How do the prompts work?

One prompt is a vague concept you can use for inspiration, the other is an Alternate Universe. You can use both or either or.

How do I participate in Jon/Elias week?

Is NSFW allowed?

Yes, we’re allowing NSFW. All we ask as mods is for writers and artist to properly tag their works. We will reblog the works and they will be properly tagged. For any minors who feel uncomfortable you will be able to filter the NSFW tag.

Do I have to do the whole week?

No, you are free to skip days and post late! Just tag the works and follow the prompts and we’ll reblog it.

What if I post after the week is done?

You can post late, we’ll continue to reblog the works after the week has ended just make sure to follow the prompts.

What if I’m a minor or don’t feel comfortable with NSFW material?

We will properly tag all the NSFW material that's submitted so minors will be able to filter works with that tag.

Hello, Sandman fans! This is a small event to celebrate pairings which often don't get central stage: rarepairs!

What's a rarepair? We have defined "rarepair" as ships and pairings with under 200 works on AO3 as qualifying. We know fandom takes place here and on other sites as well, but it's a solid metric to go by!

Pod-together is a fandom fest where writers and podficcers create together—the writer creating text specifically intended for audio, and the podficcer creating the audio. If that sounds fun to you, sign-ups are open until June 15th! You can find instructions to sign up, rules, and FAQ at the dreamwidth site linked in our bio.

Sign-ups come in two flavors. If you would like the mods to match you with someone with similar fandom interests, sign up for Matchmaker Sign-Ups. If you would like to sign up with a partner, we also have Group Sign-Ups.

Writing is due July 28th, and podfic is due August 25th. The minimum length for pod-together projects is 1000 words or 10 minutes of audio.

This is our 14th year running this challenge, and participants usually have a ton of fun and create amazing stuff, with everything from the typical style of fannish stories to submissions with filk, poetry, found footage/audio drama, sound effects, massive multi-voice collaborations, immersive soundscapes, playable games, and multiple languages.

Finish What You Started 2024 - Event Rules

The goal of this event is to get things done that you’ve already started. We all have unfinished projects whose incomplete status haunts us. Those are what we want to tackle!

The structure is loose, as this is a multimedia event. While primarily aimed at writers, this event is open to any kind of creative fanwork. Fics, translations, podfics, fanart, animations, cosplay - if you started it and never got it done, it qualifies. There is no sign-up required. I will not assign beta readers for writers, but I can boost requests for those who want them! And I can boost messages of those who would like to beta read.

The mod is a danmei fan mainly, but your work can be any fandom. Maybe something you started before your current fandom excitement took over, or one you keep putting off in favor of compelling new ideas.

Feel free to pass this event info along! The more the merrier!

Alt text is very encouraged, especially for boost posts or artwork!

If your work is NSFW, I will only boost it if it has appropriate content warnings. Spoilering images is recommended but not required as long as it’s tagged. Do not letter-swap or abbreviate content warnings. These are so people can mute them as needed. Example: "gore" not "g0re"

Remember Tumblr can mute phrases, but each warning should be its own tag as well as in the body.

Please use genderbend or genderswap for characters depicted not as canon genders. Example: "#NSFW #genderbend #gore”

Please use Omegaverse or A/O/B for that content. The original letter order is a slur against Aboriginal peoples and will not be tolerated here, even with the slashes. It, like other racial or identity-based slurs, fall under hate speech and are thus not permitted.

This account will post weekly morale-boosting messages and helpful resources. Every Friday, starting September 13th, will be Finished It Friday. All the completed works posted that week will be boosted together in a big thread, so we can celebrate your accomplishment!

Halfway-point check-in is October 1st. Final event deadline is October 31st. The last Finished It Friday is November 1st.

FAQ:

Q: Are original works acceptable?

A: This is primarily a fanwork-focused event. If original work is the only WIP you have to work on, it's certainly fine to work on it during the time frame of the event. If it is posted publicly when finished, you may tag it for boosting.

Q: Are there any restrictions on topics?

A: No, so long as your event # post is properly & fully tagged for content (see rules about tagging above). "Dead Dove" topics are allowed. Some submissions will be 18+. For me, this is less about the content and more about finishing it. 

The usual restrictions based on laws and Community Guidelines of course apply, so you may need to tailor how you post to which event space your interacting with. Twitter, Tumblr, and Discord all have their own rules. There are also some topics that are in poor taste to make fanworks around. The event organizer and mods reserve the right to not boost your work if they decide it is rage-baiting or trolling. They are not responsible for negative reactions to your works. Please be respectful of those you share a digital space with. 

Keep in mind that when I link to your finished work during a Finished It Friday, it may reach a wider audience than you may be used to.

Q: Are there any restrictions on media that can be submitted?

A: Machine Generated or "AI" images and writing are not permitted. If you are found in violation of this rule, you will be removed from the event. All images, writing, or other works must be your own.

This is a positive, shared space. Do not belittle other creators' medium of choice. Please no fandom/character/ship/creator bashing, and don't berate artists or authors for not being done with something, even if they don't finish by the end of the event. Also, please don't passive-aggressively send this event to the author of an unfinished fic you want to see done faster. 😥 Be cool, respect each other, and keep any interpersonal disagreements to your own tumblrsphere.

We are back again this year with our wonderful Dreamling Week, which will be taking place from June 2nd to June 8th this year!

Our stance on plagiarism and AI 

We do not accept nor condone the use of plagiarism, including the use of AI, whether in writing or art. If you are caught using either, you will be disqualified from the current event and barred entry for the other events the Mr. Sadman team puts forward.

General Rules and Information

Being a server member, while strongly advised, is not mandatory for this event. Our AO3 collection will be entirely open and unmoderated for everyone to post. We will be accepting late submissions, so fear not if you don’t have time to post everything you wanted to post! Additional events, such as watch-parties, fic read-alongs and game nights, will be held on the server.

FAQs : 

When is the event ? From June 2nd to June 8th! While you should post the prompt for each day it is associated with, we will also be accepting late submissions, so have no worry!

Can I combine prompts? YES!! Be sure to indicate which days and prompts you are using in your description, otherwise, go free! You can post on either days associated with your prompts, or, if it’s a multipart work, on each corresponding day!

Is there any content restriction ? We accept all  works of all mediums - writing, art, collages, playlists, podfics, translations, video edits, etc. - , whether they are SFW, NSFW and/or triggering. Writers and artists- tag appropriately ; Readers and viewers - be mindful of tags!

Where should I post my work ? Anywhere from Tumblr or AO3!! We have accounts on both platforms and we also have an AO3 collection : Dreamling Week 2024 [link]!

What tag should I use for visibility ? We recommend using both #Dreamling Week and #Dreamling Week 2024 as well as tag our account (mr-sadman) ! We will try our best to reblog every entry but if you see that we haven’t reblogged/retweeted your post yet, don’t be afraid to DM us! Make sure your blog settings are set so that your posts appear in searches - otherwise we might not see them!

Are polyamorous ships accepted ? Yes!! As long as the focus of your entry is Dreamling, poly-ships are absolutely accepted!

Do I need to be a part of the server to participate? Absolutely not! Dreamling Week is open to all! Although some additional events (such as a watch party, game nights and fic read-alongs) will be held on the server, submissions do not need to come from server members only!!

I need help, how do I reach a mod?

If there is something that is not covered by our rules masterpost and/or FAQ, you are very free to reach out to us in the Discord server’s dedicated channel or in Tumblr DMs!

PADFOOT FEST 2024

Hello everyone!!!

This is the first official post by PADFOOT FEST!

We are a new Sirius Black fanwork festival that is taking up the mantle of Sirius Black Fest, a festival that celebrates Sirius Black. Sirius Black Fest was a fest that made us, Sirius’ fans, happy for many years, but it has recently been discontinued. We, the mods of Padfood Fest, are very grateful to the original organisers for their long-term hard work and appreciate just how much effort goes into organising a successful festival like this, and that’s why we want to make sure that the tradition of appreciating of one of the most iconic HP characters is kept alive within our fandom.

What's a fandom bang when it's at home?

A fandom bang is an event where authors are challenged to write a piece of at least 10,000 words over a seven month period. Artists will then claim the fic of their choosing, and collaborate with their author to create something special!

What do I need?

Authors: You’ll need an Ao3 account, a story to tell, and a Discord! Artists: Your tool of choice, and a Discord account!
