Apple pie from Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews
Ingredients
For the Crust:
▢ 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
▢ 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
▢ 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold, cubed
▢ 1/2 cup shortening cold, cubed
▢ 6-8 tablespoons ice water
For the Filling:
▢ 8 cups apples I like ginger gold or granny smith, peeled, cored, sliced 1/4 inch thick
▢ 2 tablespoon lemon juice
▢ 3/4 cup granulated sugar
▢ 3 tablespoon all-purpose flour
▢ 1 teaspoon cinnamon
▢ 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
▢ 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
For the Topping:
▢ egg wash
▢ coarse sugar
Instructions
For the dough:
Mix the flour and salt together. Use a pastry cutter or forks to cut in the butter and shortening until mixture resembles pea-sized crumbs. Add the water one tablespoon at a time, stirring between each until dough starts to come together.
Press dough together, divide in two and then shape into a thick disks and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate 30-60 minutes or up to 3 days.
For the Filling:
In a large bowl, mix the apple slices with lemon juice and the sugar, flour, and spices together. Place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees with a rack in the lower third of the oven.
For Assembling:
Roll out one dough disc (leave the other one in the fridge) on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle and transfer to a pie plate.
Place the apples in the dough, discarding the liquid in the bowl.
Roll out the remaining dough into a 12-inch circle. Place on top of the apples. Trim excess dough (if desired), pinch the edges of the dough together, and roll it under itself. Flute the edges. Make 5-6 slits in the top of the pie to allow steam to escape.
Brush the top of the pie with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden. Place a pie shield on the pie after 25 minutes to prevent edges from getting too browned.
Let pie cool on a wire rack. It takes 2-4 hours for pie filling to set. Store leftovers in

Big news for me! My books will be available across the UK! Simon & Schuster UK will be printing and selling my first four books in my very first international rights deal. I’m a big fan of those tea kettles the British have, so you can imagine my excitement.
UK folks, this means the eBook and audiobook versions of Chef’s Kiss and Chef’s Choice are available now through your online retailers. Print editions of Chef’s Kiss should be out 6 July (I know how y'all love making those dates backwards, I am so cosmopolitan!), and print editions of Chef’s Choice are coming on 20 July. You can also look forward to your very own UK editions of Second Chances in New Port Stephen later this year and the as-yet-unrevealed Book 4. Please spread the word so that other British readers can find me!

“Looking for loaves, loves, and laughter? Do I have the books for you! Culinary romances feed the stomach and soul with their delicious mix of hot food and even hotter relationships. You come to them to read about the trials and tribulations of the restaurant industry. From opening bakeries and restaurants to maintaining them, making money and food is objectively hard. Add in the complications of celebrity chefs, reality baking competitions, and other famous employees and you have a blend of messy but delectable romances. After all, food is the gateway to the soul.
Now, culinary romances are not a new invention. I have, however, noticed an uptick in the number of culinary romances published, and I am not alone. Bettina Makalintal’s Eater article even noted, “Move over, bodice rippers. It’s all about apron tuggers now.” I cannot argue with her point that there are more and more culinary romances hitting the shelves, and many of them are queer or racially diverse.
Culinary romances give authors the ability to showcase food culture and the ways food is sold to the public. From celebrity chefs, to cooking contestants, to chefs that run businesses, part of a character’s success relies on the way they market themselves and their food to their intended customers or audience. Then throw cultural identities and work-love life balance into the mix and you have yourself a compelling romance. Given the size of the sub-genre, I only included a selection that are sure to leave you hungry for more.”

Hazbin Hotel||Alastor X Reader||Calming Afternoon
Tumblr media
The weekend has just begun, and all my other outdated plans will just have to schedule themselves at my convenience. Food just seems to brighten the day, even in the most unexpected times.
Tumblr media
It was an especially hot summer noon in hell, This wasn't a place where sinners were really into gardening, or watching cherry blossoms while they sip some green tea, it was unpleasant.
Unpleasant enough, to make Alastor cancel all his radio shows for the day, he told you, "I know my dear! Someone with style, and flare needs to make this hellish afternoon a little bearable but, you see my dear this sun has made me quite unmotivated to put the pen to the paper or sit at my office desk!"
You were a little disappointed, at his decision because you looked forward to his audios to add to your collection you had one for rainy day audios, comfort audios, he did those only for you, and some audios when you just wanted to hear his voice. Those audios always set the mood right.
Sometimes you would play them on repeat while drinking a can of soda, or drowning in caffeine when you just didn't feel like yourself.
Alastor picked up your sudden shift of mood, "My dear I promise to make you another audio, I'm working on that one for almost a week. It almost feels like a brag more than anything!" Alastor looked at you, "All though It flatters me immensely knowing you enjoy these audios more than those silly books you read, and that noisy picture box!"
You got excited, something he had been working on? For a week? You resisted yourself to ask more questions, Alastor would simply smile more wider than he usually did.
Sometime in the late afternoon, Alastor was looking at you with a disapproving look, "No, my dear, I must disagree I don't enjoy eating this lazy type of food it certainly gives no quality to the food. Nothing better than a homecooked meal."
Alastor, However, did cook the sweet dessert so ward or distract you from the sun and it felt even better when he shared it with you. Alastor had discarded the heavy coat and casually crept towards you where you lay you were flipping through a new romance book.
He should be asking you, where were you getting those books?
For the evening you were relieved to see some rain had cooled the land, and Alastor was stroking your hair, as he watched a movie you picked out on the picture box.
He was delighted to how these few hours had passed in your company, you were pleasant as always, he missed your voice. And was almost glad he feed you homecooked meals and prevented a day of lazy food.
The rest of the night you spent with each other where you talked about the things that happened over the week, what you intend to do, and to your excitement Alastor had created a meal prep plan for you, so you could enjoy.
Alastor is really good at cooking, it's like adding proportions to the meal flows in the blood, he teaches any recipe you particularly like. But he also loves it when you put in that extra effort to put together a good Lunch, or dinner. It's different when he eats your meals.

Fudge brownies with peanut butter frosting from Playing for Keeps by R L Mathewson
Brownie Ingredients
▢ 1 cup unsalted butter melted
▢ 2 ¼ cup granulated sugar
▢ 4 large eggs
▢ 1 tablespoon vanilla
▢ 1 1/3 cup all purpose flour
▢ 1 teaspoon salt
▢ 1 teaspoon baking powder
▢ 3/4 cup cocoa powder
▢ ¼ cup dark cocoa powder (I used Hershey’s special dark cocoa powder)
▢ 4 ounces chocolate chips or chunks
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a 9×13 baking pan with pan spray and line with parchment paper. Set aside.
Whisk together butter and sugar in a medium bowl until well combined. Add in the eggs and vanilla and whisk until combined.
Sift the flour, salt, baking powder, and cocoa powder into another bowl. If you want a darker brownie, go ahead and use 1/2 cup regular cocoa powder and 1/2 cup dark cocoa powder. Gently mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until just combined. Gently stir in chocolate chips.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 35-40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. If you like your brownies a little more on the gooey side, bake for 30-35 minutes.
Allow the brownies to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. Pair with ice cream for a delectable treat!
Frosting Ingredients
Ingredients
5 Tablespoons (75g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 cup (250g) creamy peanut butter*
1 cup (120g) confectioners’ sugar
1/3 cup (80ml) heavy cream, at room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark
Instructions
With a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a paddle or whisk attachment, beat the butter on medium speed until creamy, about 2 minutes. Add the peanut butter, confectioners’ sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt with the mixer running on low. Increase to high speed and beat for 3 full minutes. Add up to 1/4 cup more confectioners’ sugar if frosting is too thin or another Tablespoon of cream if frosting is too thick.
Cover tightly and store for up to 1 week in the refrigerator.
