I got the 2019 version. From like the last movie. He's so pretty i was so excited when i saw him bc idk why but funkos here are expensive. Sometimes they're 15$ but other times they're from 20$ or more. And that's crazy. My most expensive pop was a 15$ one. The character Hela from Ragnarok (she's my fave). I don't have the money to buy 20$ funkos. Wack.
Yeeeaah. Its an expensive hobby. I usually spend like $10-$15 per funko pop, unless its like a "rare" one. I spent $30 on one but thats because its the Jollibee and they only sold those in the Philippines and when I saw that someone had it, I knew I had to get it. 😂
I am not the kind of person who is confident to write something about herself. I am a mystery of my own self and I like to keep it that way. So, I just decided to tell you about this, anyway this is also a part of who I am today.
I do have a hard time finding myself, but after a series of silent questions while listening to Harry Styles’ music late at night I now have something to share.
This year I found myself liking and loving a lot of new and old things. Yes, I just go over my previous stuff and get obsessed over at it again.
I’m starting to love reading again. I’m not into the genre of romance now but instead, I tried reading horror novels especially the works of Stephen King and I’m falling in love with one of his New Times Bestselling Novels entitled IT. Also, my ultimate favorite for the Young Adult/Romance genre is Jennifer Niven’s All The Bright Places and for the Young Adult/Bildungsroman genre is Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I won’t discuss why they are my ultimate favorites but if you read these books you’ll understand why I fell in love with them. I started reading novels when I was in 7th grade and I always tell everyone that reading books helped me survive high school.
Then last December 2020, I became addicted in collecting Funko Pops. In case you don’t know, they are a collection of pop culture characters. They are cute vinyl/bobbleheads figurines. I started collecting the Pop Rocks, specifically the PRINCE line and in less than a week, I completed all the 3 PRINCE Funko Pops. Two weeks ago, I bought a Pennywise Funko Pop just to pair with my IT novel.
Currently I am binge-watching some One Direction concert films and listening to their songs. Oh, how I miss them! I remember enjoying a lot of their merchandises which I begged my mom to buy. When they had concert here in the Philippines last March 2015, I was sad because I wasn’t able to go. I was really hoping I’d get tickets for their concert on my graduation. But luckily, the next year I had a good opportunity to convince my parents to let me go to the 5 Seconds Of Summer concert. It was the best day of my life!
I am forever grateful for these things and people who made me happy and somehow became my inspiration to study harder.
I'm really amazed by your Pop work! I have no idea how you get it done and what the process is, but the little customizations are so creative and the characters always look great, I'm just astounded 🎉🎉🎉🎉 (And they seem to come out rather quickly) Thank you for sharing with the phandom these art pieces 😊😊😊
Hi @soyrabbit thank you so much! I love pops since 2012 when I bought my first one (Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory). Then one day in 2016 I found a random photo of a Phantom pop and after some digging I realized it was a custom pop made by a Filipino artist. I immediately comissioned one.
But custom pops are expensive and on top of that, there was shipping from the Philippines to Brazil. And I wanted many more, all those that Funko will probably never make. So I googled it and found some videos on YouTube of pops customizations and I thought that maybe I could do it. I made my first custom pop in August 2017 and never stopped making them. At the time, my dad was at the hospital a lot and customizing was a great way to just forget and not think. So it became a hobby.
I use official Funko pop parts for my customs. I search for the ones that resemble what I want, boil and dismantle them. Then I make the necessary ajustments like repositioning, cutting, sanding and sculpting (I use Sculpey clay). I reassemble them using parts from different pops, for example, my most simple Phantom pops are made from at least three different pops, one for the head, one for the body and a different one for the arms. The recent Christines I made wearing the lost dresses also have parts from 3 different pops. For a few of them I was able to use the body and arms from the same pop and the head of another. But some have parts from up to 5 pops.
Here is the Christine pops during sculpting (no head and arms).
After assempling, I repaint them. Sometimes I repaint before assembling and then just retouch them if needed. The reassembling involves securing the parts internally with wire and super glueing. Then the custom is sealed to protect the new paint.
My pops are Frankesteins, which is not the best way to make them if you want to sell because they will be expensive (the price of each pop I’ll need plus materials + time involved). Some really good customizers will do what you want with one or two pops max. As I don’t sell mine, as long as I can pay for the parts I need, I’m ok with that.
Since I’m making them for three years now, I have plastic bins of heads, bodies, arms, etc, so sometimes I’m able to make a custom very quickly.
Also for my Phantom, I made silicone molds of his mask and from time to time, I cast lots of masks so I’ll have them available when I need them. Sculpting the first mask took more than 1 month.
I can make a basic Phantom pop in an afternoon now. But some require more work. I’ve one in progress which already took me 3 weeks and it’s not ready yet. Many times I have to come by with solutions and new materials to achieve what I have in mind and it not always works the way I want and I have to start all over again.
Well, that’s it, hope my explanation was not too confusing.
It’s honestly been a while since I posted something here. Even that weight loss update was a simple accident on my Instagram share function. The last post I remember actively putting up was the shot of the two Thanos Funko figures I got from Syndein’s exclusive screening of Avengers Endgame. That was back in April 24th, 2019. Just two days after my 30th birthday. A lot has happened in that time. I’ve basically lived a whole journey up to the point that I started writing this.
How can I sum these events up? Let’s see.
- I’ve taken my share of bumps in the ring.
- I took a kick in the head from Rex.
- Got shoved into the side of a car by Rex.
- Started losing weight shortly after (I’m a public figure. I need to work on my appearance one way or another).
- Rolled with a faction with two guys that are literally around eight years younger than me.
- Distracted Jomar when he refereed a match against visiting tag team in a title match in order as an assist (Which resulted in a tag-team title victory in front of a crowd in Resorts World Manila).
- I also got two new tattoos in the middle of all that which was an image of Cthulhu on my left bicep and the Latin phrase “Sic Parvis Magna.”
- Attended a lot of events ranging from exclusive screenings, a live WWE show, conventions, a Nickelodeon Slimefest and even a villains’ ball (fortunately with a VIP access for most of them).
- Had my debut match.
- Got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas.
Ultimately, I wrote a few goals for 2020 that involved pursuing music again and ended 2019 with a bang. It was all in all, an awesome year. It was productive, I got a lot of things done, and ultimately fun. I actually didn’t feel burnt out at all.
Remember what I said about my goals for 2020? The plan involved resigning from my day job by April so I can start working on the album in Hong Kong with a trusted friend and colleague. Then I’d crash into the Philippines for every MWF show with said colleague and maybe see my folks if I can. That all went to the drain because 2020 was just horrible. Aside from mother nature’s wrath being dialled up to 11, we also lost some people. Both famous and even those dear to us. I’m not kidding by saying that this puts the celebrity death quota that a whole production floor of grim reapers tried to meet back in 2016 to shame.
That’s what it was for the whole world. As for me, this is at least not half as bad as what others got. The entire Philippine wrestling scene was put on hold. After a month of staying under company accommodation, our corporate heads at my workplace decided to send us folks back to our homes. That meant I was headed back to Laguna. Which brings us to where we are now. I literally spent the majority of the quarantine either cooking, browsing, reading, gaming, drinking, binge watching, and having a few quick smoke breaks in between.
This is the new normal for now. We have to take it as it is and make the best out of a horrible situation. I’m going through the sleepless nights as I used to go through the motions at work. That eventually felt repetitive. Then I realized I had the Tumblr app still installed in my phone. So I decided to check it out. I saw everything was just as I left it and it’s been ages now. The damn thing could have had cobwebs and it wouldn’t have been surprising. I decided to not just leave everything as is, but rather de-clutter it. Maybe I could tweak a few things here and there. And I did just that...at 4:00 am on a wednesday. But it felt rather refreshing. Therapeutic even. Maybe this is what I need to ride out the pandemic. Just so I could keep my sanity from being eaten inside out.
So I guess this is a new start. A new addition to my to do list in the current normal. Looks like you’ll all be seeing a bunch of my posts again. Better hold onto your f***ing hats then. Cause I’m back on Tumblr.
