#Hell Beast

This is a fairly old piece called Petition. 2002, I think. I put the copyright notice onto it later, as I was starting to experience a rash of art theft during my early days on DeviantArt (back when an annoying watermark was sufficient to stop the humans...).

The inspiration for this one was weird - I was driving behind a car late on a rainy night. It had these especially intense red tail lights, and the reflection on the wet roadway made me think, "Those look like waterfalls of blood!" Yyyyyep.

This project was, therefore, an experiment to see if I could incorporate "waterfalls of blood" effectively with a dragon design I had already been noodling at the time. I had fun with the special effects. I used chunky old modeling paste to make the waterfalls and some of the texture in the lower quarter of the picture. Then I painted all but the dragon with black and red acrylics. I tried doing some highlighting with bone-colors, but it looked gross - like bloody cottage cheese or something. Not at all the effect I wanted. So I went back to entirely red and black, and that's what worked visually in the end.

I colored the dragon with Prismacolors. I had originally drawn in some tiny people shapes to give the dragon and the waterfalls a sense of scale, but it looked silly and I decided to let the dragon stand on its own.

I hate being a person who loves bugs, I can't say anything without the person I'm talking to reacting with disgust. Today I had to literally beg a coworker for the life of a spider, and then after I put it in a nook outside she thought it'd be funny to show me a video she took of her killing one. Like idk man. Birds scare the shit out of me but I still get why people love them. They come in pretty colors and they sound nice and they're interesting to observe. I don't understand why people don't feel the same about bugs. The rich amber color of a cockroach, the iridescent glow of a fly, the intricate hydraulics that power their little legs, the chirp of a beetle, the art of the spider's web... It's all so beautiful. Why is it the habit of so many to destroy?

n don’t get me wrong I love smut as much as the next person but I cannot stand meaningless smut. With no substance just mindless sex with no passion or any ounce of affection attached to it. No buildup, no pining, no tension so thick it’s palpable no “fuck why are these jeans glued on” no “clumsiness or characters being awkward because sex is awkward sometimes and intimidating” no characterisation, character development or poking fun in a lighthearted way because

“dino boxers really?”

the way they’d be so unapologetic about it too maybe not even vocal but the look that fucking look that screams “yeah? n what you’re gonna do about it?” or maybe they’re flustered but that’s hot either way because it’s them, it’s their quirk

It’s the little details

The vulnerability? The insecurities—trying something new but being afraid to cross or plunge into unknown territories

but it’s their touch—guidance—that unspoken “you’re safe with me”

Subtle hotness/intimacy man

But yeah sex sells. Let’s be real. It’s a cheap way to get views especially when not mindful of how characters would react in such situations
