This has been in my head for about a week now and I don’t think it’s finished yet, but we also need more content in the LoA fandom and I am here to provide

The Krew had stumbled into the Feywild outpost the night before, run ragged by their latest monster encounter. Gideon had been roughed up pretty severely, but thanks to the expertise of Gricko and Morning Frost, was only experiencing a ghost of the pain.

After a night of rest he supposed everyone was feeling more themselves. They were off pursuing their own pleasures, exploring what the outpost had to offer.

Gideon tried not to be too obvious as he watched you from across the bar. He always thought you were beautiful, but with the dirt and blood from the journey washed off, he couldn’t keep his eyes off you.

Your auburn hair caught the dim light in the bar as you danced around, listening to the trio of bards performing. Another patron next to you said something and Gideon watched, unable to hear your voices, as you threw your head back and laughed.

A pang of jealousy stabbed at Gideon’s chest as he watched the scene unfold. He should be the one making that laugh erupt from you- not some stranger in the Feywild. He knocked back the last sips of his whiskey, savoring the sting as it went down, and signaled the barkeep for another round.

He continued to watch you for a few more songs, the whiskey warming his already hot body. The music slowed as Gideon noticed a familiar emerald robe make its way towards you. Frost pulled down his hood when he reached you and Gideon watched as you rest your hands on his shoulders, preparing to dance with the Tabaxi. Suddenly, Gideon’s jealousy was warming him more than the whiskey was.

Gideon gripped Morning Frost by the scruff at the back of his neck, a little more aggressively than absolutely necessary, and your eyes widen. When you register that it’s Gideon who is tearing Frost away from you, a grin breaks out on your face. You send a mental thanks to the Tabaxi and he mirrors your smile as he leaves the tavern, most likely returning to his room to meditate.

“Feeling a little jealous, Gideon?”

“Huh? Wa- no!” He gently places his large hands on your waist and can feel the fire Genasi’s heat through your dress. “I just think that Frosty needs to keep his paws to himself.”

“And what about you? Do you need to keep your paws to yourself?” You place your hands on Gideon’s broad chest and look up at him.

“I don’t have paws,” Gideon huffs and pulls you closer to his body. You laugh and pull one of his hands up to yours.

“I don’t know Gid,” you line your hands up palm to palm and splay your fingers out. “Could’ve fooled me.”

Gideon looks at your small hand pressed up against his much larger one and entwines your fingers. He brings your hand to his face and kisses the back of it. You smile at him softly and lay your head against his chest. He rests his cheek on the top of your head and begins to sway the two of you to the gentle music, never letting go of your hand. You lose track of time, just enjoying each other’s company until the bards announce their last song.

“You really scared me out there Gideon,” you whisper and pull back from his embrace to look him in the eyes. “I wasn’t sure that Frost was going to get to you in time, or-or-or that Gricko had enough banañas left, a-a-and…”

Your words catch in your throat and tears prick your eyes.

“Hey, hey, hey now,” Gideon gathers you in his arms again and hugs you close, his mouth right above your ear as he says, “it’s okay. I’m here. I’m okay.”

You press your face into Gideon’s chest and sniffle, trying to regain your composure. The final song of the night ends with a flourish. Neither you or Gideon make a move to release the other.

“Stay with me?” Gideon’s voice is soft as he finally loosens his grip around your waist to look in your eyes. Your heart melts at the softness in his voice. You nod and let him guide you up the stairs to his room. It makes the simple act of opening the door more difficult than it needs to be, but you don’t let go of Gideon’s hand.

The way Dead Boy Detectives handles queerness and labeling of sexuality is honestly so refreshing. The way it's handled makes is very obvious that it's not the kind of media in which characters are assumed straight until proven otherwise; the characters' sexualities are left undefined because the focus isn't on specific labels, it's on the relationships between characters.

As the show goes on, it becomes abundantly clear that the characters' sexualities are a non-factor. Sure, Jenny dates women, but a label is never put on that. Same with Edwin - he is clearly interested in men, but not once in the show is he labeled as gay. It's not necessary in either case; labeling these characters wouldn't add anything to their stories or character arcs. The show is completely relaxed about labels because they're almost never a part of or even relevant to the plot.

And so, in a show that is so utterly unconcerned with labels, it would also be exceeding strange to impose the label of "straight" on any character. Characters like Charles and Crystal, who clearly demonstrate attraction to the opposite gender, don't come across as strictly heterosexual, they come across as people experiencing human emotions. And a character like Niko, who never expresses romantic attraction to anyone, really can't be assumed heterosexual either, because it simply wouldn't be in line with what we know about her.

Heterosexuality never comes across as the default in this universe. It never seemed as if the writers automatically assumed any character, no matter how background, to be straight. Queerness is explored not as a defiance of the norm but as just another way of loving someone. In a world where being queer is always viewed as alternate or deviant, and where coming out is a lifelong process that begins again every time you meet someone new because you're always assumed cishet, this kind of complete abolishment of heteronormativity is a breath of fresh air. Seeing queerness handled in such a casual way onscreen honestly feels a little bit revolutionary.

when bitches wobify Mu Qing and make him into a twink and i especially despise it when they do it for a ship with Feng Xin.

and okay he's not as muscular and more lean (hence being describes as looking scholarly) but do y'all fucking forget the man is a martial god in his own right? by no means is that man a damsel in distress that needs Feng Xin to constantly save him. he's smart, he's cunning and yeah he had a few vulnerable moments but by no means is he a poor wet meow meow he would kick your ass and laugh at you for being a failure. and yeah he's more lithe, especially when he's constantly next to Feng Xin who is kind of hypermasculine in fandom portrayals and impo (general "gigantic masculinity" anyone?) and those two are THE SAME FUCKING HEIGHT so why is Mu Qing always drawn to be much shorter than Feng Xin. and also maybe let's factor in the fact that Mu Qing was poor when growing and likely had to go without food so the lack of proper food while growing probably had an effect on his development(this just a hc btw but still it tracks). also this whole thing kind of smells really bad when people take Mu Qing, who is described as scholarly, and feminise him. it's really giving "EUGH!!! school is for girls!! only boys play sports!! academics=lame, feminine girly, war=cool, MASCULINE, done by REAL MEN URGH!!!"

i’m gonna be negative for a second so fair warning

the STEM obsession is literally a plague on the current academic world, especially the recent “women in stem” shit. of course people who are typically discouraged from male-dominated fields should receive encouragement from schools, recruiters, etc, but i am really sick of this being turned into “STEM is the only valuable career path and you are betraying your intelligence as a woman/poc/whatever by doing literally anything else.”

there are SO many non stem jobs that are essential to the proper functioning of society and are definitely NOT worth any less than being a doctor or engineer. i’m tired of there being zero scholarships, internships, encouragement in general for literally any other career path. it’s just disrespectful and honestly dangerous. we can’t let humanities-focused subjects and careers die because STEM is the current hot topic. and i just hate most of all the appropriation of feminism to do it.

It's kinda shocking to me how few people seem to know how prevalent the 'my great grandmother was cherokee' myth is and how it's almost never actually true, especially when it comes with things like 'never signed up' or 'fell off the trail' or 'courthouse burned down destorying the documentation' etc etc.

People just don't even seem to know the history like.. when the Trail happened. My great great great grandfather was 2 years old during Removal in 1838, so peoples 'my great grandmother hid in the mountains!' is so clearly wrong. And we have rolls. From before and after removal, rolls done by cherokee nation and others by the government, rolls that were not stored in one random flammable courthouse. It's not difficult to find the actual evidence of ancestry.

And just.. there are lots of ways those family stories get started. It was a practice during the confederacy to claim cherokee ancestry to show one's family had 'deep roots in the south' that they were there before the cherokee were removed. Many people pretended to be cherokee and applied for the Guion-Miller payout just to try to steal money meant for cherokees - 2/3rds of the applicants were denied for having 0 proof of actual cherokee ancestry. [We even see lawyers advertising signing up for the Miller roll just to try to get free money.] And the myth even started in some families in the cherokee land lotteries, where the land stolen from us was raffled off, including the house and everything that was left behind when the cherokees were removed. We have seen people whose families just take these things stolen from the cherokee family and adopt them into their own family story, saying that they were cherokee themselves.

If you had some family story about being cherokee and you wanna have proof one way or the other, check out this Facebook group run by expert cherokee genealogists that do research for free. Just please read the rules fully and respect the researchers. They run thousands of people's ancestries a year and their average is only around 0.7% of lines they run actually end up having true cherokee ancestry.

this is mean but. the thing is that nothing about 911 on abc is that deep because it’s 911 on abc but i do have to say that being in this fandom alone has wholesale lowered my expectations for the general capacity of people to engage not just critically but base-level logically with the world around them. like i kind of thought we were all on the same page here but i was wrong

I don't think actors should be forced / manipulated / cajoled / pushed into stories they don't want to do nor do I think they should have to give an explanation as to why they don't want to do it. I have a lot to say on this subject
